Easy class, Thomason is a good teacher. He grades easy and is laid back. Pop quizes are hard because he wants very specific answers. Exams are written which take awhile but are easy to score high on.
Test only covers what you've learned in class. Also test review helps you know exactly what questions and answers to the test are. Fun teacher.
Nice guy, a bit too nice actually, I'd throw kids the hell out if they were as disruptive as our class is.. but eh, good guy, good class, pretty easy
It was an overall good class. Go to class and listen to the lectures, take notes and you will be fine. Hes a easy going teacher thats very nice. Hes also very passionate about history which is a wonderful quality to have in a instructor.
Very easy grader on little writing assignments. I did not know what was going on most of the time and manages to get 100 percents by BSing a lot of stuff. DO NOT GET CAUGHT PLAGERIZING, you will be screwed over. Very easy going though and nice, too nice maybe. Easier than many other history teachers. Very boring and hard to take class notes.

He's really nice and everything, but he doesn't seem to be very interested in what he's teaching.
Cool guy, good course... doesn't do well with distractions, class gets out of hand very easily..
stubborn, cold-hearted teacher. never think for students. he's good to be a student, not a teacher. never never never take his class again.
His quizzes were almost impossible to ace....but the tests were super easy. Just use the study guide and pre-write the essay questions and you will be good. The homework load sucked. Don't be absent that much because he doesn't accept late homework...even if you have a genuine excuse
I took him for 221 and 222. I thought he was a great guy. If you act like a mature adult, he is a really fun guy who seems to love his job and students. If you have questions he is really helpful, and I would take him again if I had another history class.
Great teacher! Really helpful! Take him if you get the chance.
knowledgeable but could improve on explaining criteria and clarity.
Really, really boring. He's super nice, but gets off topic very easily. Tests are easy, but you have to study alot to ace a quiz. Its not impossible, though. He has no idea how to write on the board,so he uses power points instead which he also has no idea how to use.Cool guy though.
Do not take his class online! If you're bad or even okay at history, then take it in class. Nice guy, but a lot of work. An essay every week and lots of reading. Definately not a fun or easy class. Exams are hard to ace.
I had 99% in his class before the first exam.... one exam brought me don to a 67%. So Horrible. Decent teacher though. If you actually take the time to prepare for his exams, they might be easier....
I took his online class. It took him a month to get grades out.. so he's a little bit slow I guess. Kind of unorganized and there's an essay due every single week. So I'd probably suggest not taking his online class.
This was a horrible class. If you do not absolutely have to take it, I would not! The professor is very poor at communicating, does not return papers in a fashionable time, and when he does you have no idea what to work on to improve your grade, you simply get your grade and are forced to move on without any feedback.
Mark has won the award for the world's worst teacher. He gives you way too much busy work, doesn't communicate ANYTHING, takes a month to grade anything. This class requires at least 8-13 hours a week! I will never take a class from him again! He gives poor study guides and tests and quizes that are astronomically hard with out adequate guidance!
History 221, how do I detest thee? Let me count the ways. 1. There is little to NO feeback on assignments & quizes. 2.Student work is graded & returned with an incredible time lapse. 3.If you scored poorly on an assignment, you won't know it in time to make corrections for grade improvement for next assignment. Poor class. Inefficient instruction.
This is one of the worst classes I have ever had! There is so much unnecessary work (that has little/nothing to do with the textbook)! He does not communicate anything well, and expects you to memorize the book for the tests (because what might be on the test to study for is not given).

Let me just say... DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
Does not communicate and the work is ALL OVER THE PLACE. I would NOT recommend this class! The Book was very interesting, but everything else is too much!!!
This guy is a joke! I took the online class and you have a lot of reading each week and lectures that he has written. His lectures are not clear or well organized and are very hard to understand. The tests and quizzes are impossible to ace even if you study HARD. It takes at least a month to get assignments back and there is never any feedback.
Very poor communicator, still hasn't returned one of my emails. Is no help at all if you have any questions. Promises things such as test grades but then doesnt actually deliver them till weeks later. Instructions are not clear. Over all, he is a sloppy, univolved teacher who doesn't seem to really want to be teaching. WASTE OF TIME!
He's okay. Honestly, he's a bit unorganized and his instructions are hard to understand sometimes. I wish I would've listened to this website when it told me NOT to take his online class. Really... don't. haha.
This guy is horrible. We have a final in 9 days and just got the study guide today. This final is worth 1/3 of our grade. He is lazy and totally unorganized and a very very poor communicator. This is by far the worst college class I have ever taken. Reall, read all the comments and listen to your peers, don't take this class. He should be fired!
his absent so many times but if your absent 1 time then he wont let u redo homework.
To me, he's not as bad as everyone is saying. I also took HIST 221 with him. He's often a few minutes late and class gets cancelled a couple times. Lectures can get boring, but be sure to take notes. He will be happy to help with exam studying. IE, if you email him an essay outline, he will reply back with what's good and what needs to be added.
I took his online class and let me just say, DON'T TAKE HIM! REALLY! I worked my butt off and it did not help at all. He WILL NOT communicate, he doesn't put the material accessible for assignments, and the test is so unpredictable even if you study for DAYS you will probably still fail and end up wasting your money re-taking the History class!
He a good professor. His quizzes are easy, his test are somewhat easy, you just have to know the material.
Mr. Thomason came off very unorganized. His tests are not too hard at all, the material is all in the study guide. But UNORGANIZED. So... if you take his online class, you might not get your assignments graded.
Not a bad prof at all. Definantly unorganized though. We've watched at least 3 absolutely pointless movies because he's not so sure what he's doing. As long as you go to class and do the study guides.. easy A. He covers everything you need to know on the tests/quizzes in class.
better not take his class.. It's so hard..
Took it online, I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT. He is a very tough teacher. Do not take.
the absolute worst teacher ive ever had. He will not grade your papers and he prides himself on how many students he fails. Do yourself a favor and dont take his class!!!!
Don't recommend you take the online course. His expectations are very unclear, he's slow to grade papers and not easy to contact.
He is such a boring teacher, and very disorganized. I would not reccomend taking a class with him. He is unclear and a hard grader.
Worst teacher I have ever had. He's one of the most worthless teachers I've ever had the displeasure of taking a class from. DO NOT take his class online, his grading system is impossible and the class is nearly impassable. Note to teachers; if no one is doing well in your class it's probably your own fault for being a horrible teacher.
I thought he was a pretty good teacher. I took his lecture class. He was very clear about what the assignments were and when they were due. Tests are on the textbook not the lectures, however the lectures are useful. I ended up having to drop the class because for different reasons, but if you are dedicated and care about history as much as he does
I took Mr. Thomason's online course. He expects you to devote two hours to reading per day and has a 3-4 pg essay every week. His grading scale is very very tough. He is looking for something specific in an essay and anything outside of what he wants or what he thinks seems to be marked down. I would never recommend taking this teacher.
I HATED THIS CLASS! i got on this prior to taking his online class and i figured i'd be alright. i'm an A student and i got a 2.2 in this class! DO NOT TAKE! Trust me!
I think he grades too hard on the exams. I missed one little detail and missed 20 points out of a hundred!! Really?
he's knowledgable. but i agree that he grades waaaaayy too hard on the exams. i too missed one detail and got 20 cut off.
I took both HIST 233 & HIST 137 with him, and I would give him a C to C- for teaching abilities. Lectures are VERY disorganized and rambling. Tests are so hard and he is a very picky grader. I was able to scrape a 3.5 in HIST 233 with some very hard work and expert note taking. I do not recomend this class if you need a really good gade.
Good class. Some of the additional readings were a little dry, but he does provide an interesting perspective on the history. He makes you look at the causes and consequences of things rather than making you memorize dates and numbers.
I don't understand how everyone said he's such a bad teacher. All you did was read books, answer questions, and take tests. His class was really easy. There's only 3 tests, one in the beginning, one in the middle, and one at the end. You only have to answer 3 questions on each exam, and he answered any questions I had. One of the best teachers at G
You can get a good grade in his class as long as you are super in depth on the tests... But not the papers. I wrote too much on a paper and that made it a B.
His lectures are horrible. Rambling and boring. He also had very unclear instructions. As far as teachers go, he is fairly easy, but you don't really learn that much.
Okay teacher, he's nice & funny. Pretty much a high school APUSH class. Takes the time to learn everyones names. Lectures are really boring & kind of unorganized. 2 major tests (25 questions) (midterm & final) worth 100 points w/2 quizzes worth 50 (only 10 questions). Make sure to read a lot & take super good notes.
I took two consecutive quarters of his US History online so I can't speak to his lectures or anything but the online class was fine. One assignment a week, 2 tests, piece of cake. I never read the book until a couple days before each test and got a 3.8 and 4.0 in each class. The multiple choice on tests is hard but the essay section is worth more.
He is a good teacher. Very fair in giving grades...
Fun guy. Can tend to be disorganized, but fair with grades. Very helpful and patient when approached, and responds well to feedback during lectures. There was a guy with autism in the class I took with him, who would occasionally disrupt class and ask unnecessary questions, and I was really impressed how well he handled him.
He made us write 2 essays per week for a total of 900 words, and on the final week, it was increased to 2000 words. He was also out of town for the final week. Don't take him if you have a choice.
He was very disorganized, didn't hand out material when he said he would, even if he didn't hand out stuff, he'd still have those questions on the test, even if we didn't get the info. It's hard to follow on what subjects he talks about, he repeats and just keeps going on and looses the class.
Easy class if you like writing essays. We wrote an essay a week basically so it wasn't to hard. I didn't really use the book that much. WARNING: He takes FOREVER to put in your grades. Everyone is right about him being disorganized, but the class wasn't really that bad. I took it online.
He is seriously the worse professor I have ever had to deal with. He is also VERY unorganized, NEVER puts in grades when he says he will, and his test are on irrelevant questions that you wouldn't find in the text book. His study guides give a vague idea of what is actually on the test, and he grades too hard for a basic US history class.
He's not organized, everything he says you need to take notes which make people hard to analyze. The test was horrible, 200 points of essay and 100 points of muti-choice and he grade essay very harsh. Not an easy class unless ou are interesting in history and you can study on your own.
The professor was no help; he graded things almost a month late; expects you to read the book (even though it wasn't assigned); never responds to emails or canvus notifications; Really harsh on grading; and overall just rude
He seemed like a highschool teacher. He didn't give out any homework other than readings occasionally. He is very hard to listen to in class, so just take notes and try your best to pay attention. My phone would always distract me and I got a 2.6. His tests are hard 100 points multiple choice with like 25 questions and 200 points of essay questions
This guy! I took his history class He was very disheveled, I fail to understand why he continued to use the phrase"And the noose was tightened around their necks" complete with hand gestures I was the only Brown Skinned Person in the class, Teachers like him is the reason I WILL BE INFORMED...Wasted #Miseducated
This class was ridiculous. I received a 4.0 in my undergraduate degree at WSU and needed to take this class as a fluke to get into my master's program. He is a horrid teacher. You basically read 200 pages of text per week on random American history. Then for the Mid-term and final you have to regurgitate 100% of it. AWFUL. Lazy class outline too.
Definitely the worst class I've ever taken! There's an essay every week and you read about 100 pages a week too. I've written 8 papers so far and he's graded 1 of them. Very unorganized, rude, and impossible to contact! He's an incredibly tough grader too. You have to practically memorize the textbook for any hope of passing. DO NOT TAKE!!!
Definitely not the worst teacher but not the best. Make sure you listen carefully and notes are mandatory!
Like many college classes, he lectures all class long and expects you to write down every word. Sometimes what he said was confusing and his lectures were very boring. I only read the textbook a few days before the testquiz (2 per quarter) and got a 4.0. Go to class, take thorough notes, and study for the test and this class won't be that bad.
Very Unorganized. I took the online class. Took awhile to grade papers. 1 paper every week. Most are around 500 words. A couple of the papers are about 1,000. Two Exams. Must read the book. Some things are easier to Google though.
Took the online class. You had to mention very specific events in your papers or get docked points. Reading was mandatory and if you didn't open the book, you didn't pass. PapersShort answers were long and tedious, but eventually his expectations became clear. Not an easy A., but a 3.0+ is achievable. I am usually a 3.8+ and got around 3.1.
The only HW was a quick and short paper once a week. He didn't respond to my emails when I had questions about an assignment. The tests are quite hard. Definitely make an outline for the essay Q's and be prepared! If you don't study for the midterm and final, you probably won't pass. Good for people with a busy schedule!
He was a great teacher although he takes forever to grade things! Best part was no homework other then alot of readings!
Nice enough teacher, but after two quarters with him (HIST 136 and 137) I'm glad to be done with him. His lectures are ok, and his weekly quizzes are usually pretty easy if you've been in class or get the notes from a friend. His exams however are all written and he expects a lot of detail. I've seen straight A students get Bs and Cs on them.
He's really a nice, down-to-earth guy. Always willing to help or advise students and answer questions. He's friendly, easygoing, and likes to crack jokes in class; he has the personality of Bill Murray. His one fault is that he is slow to grade assignments. Just come to class and listen. I have gotten a great grade and loved it!
As long as you attend class and take good notes you should do well on quizzes and assignments. On exams try to write down as many details as you possibly can and that should guarantee you a B or above on them. It's not an easy A, but if you put in enough effort you will get a 4.0 or close to one.
I learned a lot. I was challenged in the class. If you are falling behind he will help you if you ask.
The class is pretty easy online if you actually do your work. Only one weekly assignment that is easy 2-3 paragraph response to a question. The tests are usually essay questions that reference homework assignment questions. No late assignments are accepted though. Grades little tough on tests but not so much on weekly assignments.
Mark was very disorganized in class and most of the time we had no idea what he was talking about. His directions were very unclear and our schedule was often changed at a moments notice.
He is so slow to grade. Took him about 3 weeks to grade one paper. First day of class for the quarter, he assigned 6 chapters in a book to read due the following day but there was no previous knowledge of needing the book until he assigned the reading. He did that about 5 times more. He is incredibly disorganized, unprofessional, and not helpful.
Mark is a caring teacher that will help students. I enjoyed his lectures, it feels like a story! Sure, he assigned lots of paper to read, but it is the same for any history classes. Participation points are based off in-class assignment and presentations. Prepare A LOT for your tests, he gives questions that will be in the test beforehand.
Tests are graded tough but Thomason is super nice and willing to give you feedback. Super easy group projects. Some papers and in-class group work but these aren't graded hard. Give as much examples, dates, detail as you can in tests because it's all essay.
I really enjoyed his class! He lectured a lot but they were easy going and straightforward. In my class, you don't really need to read the book but it is a good resource, just pay attention and take good notes and you should be fine. Quizzes are periodically online on Fridays, and are fairly simple. He gives essay prompts for exams so study them!
Took the online course, Professor Thomason has shown to be the most disorganized professor I've had thusfar (out of 12 professors). Had no course schedule, and assignments and quizzes were given at random. Treated the course as if it was the only course that mattered. Did not show any respect for one's time, made exams at inconvenient times.
Would often assign 100+ pages of reading and have it due in a week, but not actually require it all to be done for 2 weeks. Did not give anyone 100% on either of the two exams, seemed unjustified. The only assignments were eight weekly "papers" which were 300-400 words -- these were easy to get 100% on -- and two quizzes, which were pretty easy.
Mr. Thomason is THE best instructor I have had at GRC with probably the most interesting classes. He is very passionate about his course/materials and gives very good lectures. Make sure to take plenty of notes in class and don't be afraid to ask questions or contact him outside of class. I honestly wish he taught all of my classes.
Only assigned weekly "papers," two exams aside from that, even though he said he would assign quizzes. Very unclear grading criteria, and he'll knock off lots of points if you miss small details that may seem unimportant. He takes an unreasonably long time to grade. He'll range from asking you to read 6 chapters in 5 days to 1 chapter in a week.
Extremely unorganized and during my online course he would only assigned weekly "papers," two exams aside from that, even though he said he would assign quizzes. Overall the course was quite easy. I was confident that my completion on assignment was good but his grading said otherwise. Also, he never really had a reason why grades were low
Did not return grades within a reasonable time, did not get grades back within 3 weeks after the assignments, had several outstanding assignments awaiting grading
I honestly don't know why he has such a bad rating. I took his class for history 136&137 and i'm planing to take history 233 with him. All you have to do is pay attention in his class and you'll be fine. He wants you to succeed so if you have questions don't be scared to ask.
His online class isn't too bad, there's a 600 word paper every week, and two exams. He requires a lot of reading though (30+ pages a week), so be sure to spread it out! His grading criteria is very vague, and usually won't provide a rubric. He's also strict about deadlines. Don't procrastinate and be detailed in your work, and you should be ok!
Pretty easy class overall. Took forever to grade things and would take off a few points for leaving a small detail out of a paper. Only had two big exams, a 600 word essay a week which are pretty easy and 2-3 quizzes. Will either be given a few chapters to read a week or just one, or he won't update any assignments and you'll get a week off.
Thomason is a ok professor. He is nice, dont get me wrong, but he grades really harsh. Your grade is based reading articles during class and answering a few questions on them. Then a quiz every Thursday (for hybrid class) and 2 exams + 1 final, which are in class esssays. I know he wants the best for his students but beware of the harsh grading
Even though I have transferred onto my four year degree, I wish I could come back and take more classes from Mr. Thomason. I learned so much in just one quarter and came out of my class with a new love for Latin America and its history. Do your reading, show up, participate and you'll do fine.
After taking both Hist136 and Hist137 from Thomason I would not recommend taking his class in any capacity. It took over 3 weeks for him to grade papers which he didn't give feedback on how to improve. The midterms also consists of two closed book/note 5 paragraph papers on two of four questions that he provides only a week in advance.
So he is an ok prof at BEST. First off he makes everything politically one sided. He bashes anybody that doesnt agree with his leftist ideology, think politically republican, white, or arent politically correct. This happens on a daily basis. Which I absolutely hated the fact that he was like this. Hes super rude and exams are very hard.
I took both 136 &137 with him. Hes a ok professor. He gives a lot of assignments and grades really harsh. I also dont like his exam testing style. You have to write 5 paragraph essay all from memory.
Lectures were often extremely boring, little effort was made to make them interesting. The exams were unfairly brutal and unreasonable with no supporting material of any kind (books, notes, etc.) and had to be written out with a minimum of six paragraphs and "specific" examples used from the textbook that you cannot access.
All of the weekly tasks are very specific and easy to access. You have to do a paper and a quiz every week, but they're pretty easy to accomplish if you don't procrastinate. You cannot to all of the work in 1 night, don't try it. He's not that hard of a grader, overall would take one of his online classes again.
The typical week: 2 chapters, 1+ lecture reading, a quiz and/or a paper. Nothing due on Sunday. Uploads modules on Tues. and those are due on Mon. Exam: 2 essays from memory Tough grader for all essays Quizzes: one page study guide, only one chance to take, about 10-20 minute quiz, always more ?s than minutes so 30 sec a question
I took Thomason's online class, so I can't say I know his personality well. However, he seemed like a nice guy in his feedback and emails. Get ready to read a TON if you take his online class. There's an essay and a quiz due EVERY WEEK. This was not an easy class, you need to know your stuff. His feedback is good and helpful as well.
I strongly recommend his online class. It was structurally very organized. You knew exactly what to expect each week. There may not be a lot of assignments but make sure to put in effort. Also, he's quick to respond to emails. I had a few questions and he replied back within 24 hours. Be dedicated in studying for the exams and you'll do just fine.
He has only a midterm and a final hybrid version had a quiz every week Quizzes were very vague and the study guide for them weren't super helpful so good luck He posts all notes on canvas so you don't need to be there except for the tests has some extra credit at end of quarter and in form of jeopardy Rounds final grade up mine from 3.7 to 4
long boring lectures and even gets lost during it, and what he wants for the midterm and final are very weird-tough grader just please choose a different prof and save your grade
He isn't as bad as people think. Yes, his class is boring , heavy lectures but the good thing is attendance is NOT mandatory. He is a Very Chill teacher, u can go in and out of his class whenever you want. If you want a good grade tho, go to class, he gives the question for the exam. Weekly quizzes and a couple of essay, its not bad
Nicest and easiest teacher he was very helpful even tho lectures were boring he kept it entertaining and giving a lot of interesting fun examples. He has a midterm and and final and jist group work in between really easy highly recommend
Professor Thomason provided a class that was just right not too easy but not too hard. The notes for his class were easy because he talks fairly slow and only discusses the topics on his PowerPoint. Professor Thomason was very good, He included some group activities and during high school test days, like PSAT he did some trivia, which was fun.
pretty easy class. the hardest part was the 2 exams (both made up of 2 essay questions)and the possible questions are given to you before the test. as long as you study youll be fine. the lecture information was interesting but i sometimes found myself falling asleep. overall pretty easy class.
This class was mostly reading the textbook, writing papers, and taking quizzes. The tests were graded tough and you had to prepare for four essay questions. I also tried to email him several times with no response, so message him through Canvas. He is accomodating, I was allowed to take a test on a different date than everyone else.
I'm not sure why he has a 2.6 he should have at least a 3.8-4 yes he is a very boring lecturer but if you ask him for help he will help you extensively It's more of the course that is hard material for some people and not him and because he's not the most eye opening instructor you have to work for it but it doesn't mean he isn't there for you.
He gives very long boring lectures, attendance is not mandatory but there are group papers that can only be done in class which is worth a good amount of your grade. There are in class essays but he gives you a study guide in which he'll choose 2 of the 4 topics. The final in the end is crappy but if you actually try in this class you'll do good.
He was kind of a tough grader and took awhile to grade papers. We had a paper every week and he waited until the last week to give our grades. The final and midterm are both very straightforward which was nice. The weekly quizzes were a bit hard.
- Strict grading despite unclear grading criteria - Slow at grading weekly papers - Made a very degrading comment to em on an assignment (comment below) "I don't think that this assingment was written by you since it seems to advance for someone like you to have written" - To be clear, I didn't plagerize, yet mark gave me a 0% on the assignment
Professor Thomason is a really good teacher overall. The papers that were assigned every week were very easy just follow the rubric!
In professor Thomason's syllabus, he claims that he will grade assignments within a week of submission, but he leaves several papers ungraded for weeks. He gives one or more papers weekly and some of the quiz questions given are not found in the assigned reading for the week.
He takes forever to grade stuff, be ready to read a lot (and take plenty of notes). I found the quizzes easy but the weekly essays are hard. When people said hes a tough grader they werent lying about that and also, he does NOT accept late work. Good luck :)
If you are a running start student please avoid taking this class. He is such a tough grader, if you miss 1-2 things you get marked 5 points off. The quizzes you can get some things on Quizlet. I suggest you use the study guide as you read, it may be a hit or miss. I find an easier teacher, history is useless, save your gpa
Professor Thomason gives lots of reading but only has 2 assignments per week. The class is super easy if you read the texts and follow directions. He is easy to access by email but is a slow grader.
Im a running start student and from seeing most of the reviews are from November 2020, Im assuming were all taking the same class. Hes a really good teacher! Gives a quiz and one (small) paper per week. Feedback on papers is always good. The only thing is sometimes the reading seems like too much but its manageable. He takes FOREVER to grade!
He is a very tough grader. Lots of reading and note taking. We have weekly essays due which have no clear grading rubric. In his syllabus, he said he'll grade assignments within a week, but actually takes 2-3 weeks to grade. Please don't have him as a professor.
Mr. Thomason is the worst teacher I've had at green river. He is not a good grader, taking up to a month to grade my work, even though he only has to grade one paper. He marked me down for not emphasizing a point enough, even though I included the point in my paper. He does not have a grading rubric and just grades you however he wants.
The quizzes in this class are pretty easy if you have your textbook, but there is no rubric for the essays/papers, which makes them really hard. He takes off points if you aren't specific enough on topics he didn't mention in the instructions, and is a really harsh grader.
Mr. Thomason is not the worst teacher out there, but he is by no means the best either. He takes forever to grade things, even thought the syllabus says they will be graded within a week or two. Every week contains one or two chapters of reading and a lecture, followed by a paper or two, and sometimes a quiz. If you can, choose another teacher.
Do not take this class if you do not need the credit. He grades so toughly like 5 points for missing a small detail. You get a quiz and paper each week but the paper is hard because the documents are difficult to understand. He has no clear grading criteria or a rubric which makes everything more difficult. He give extra credit at the end
This guy will mark you like 10 points down for like a simple mistake. He takes years to grade stuff. he gives like 50 page like no joke 40 pages at least. He gives papers with minimal instruction no rubric just him saying a word count of xxx and questions no rubric or anything. We are doing more essays than my dang English class. Bad experience .
Decent teacher. Responds to emails fairly quickly. About one paper and a quiz a week based on chapters from textbook. Takes a while to grade. Gives some comments but not a ton. Final is a paper and a test which is about 200 points. Also one extra credit option at the end of the quarter.
You do not need a textbook because he will provide documents for 137. The papers are hard sometimes because he gives out literature. You get a quiz each week and a study guide, they are hit or miss, some stuff is on Quizlet. He grades very harshly, make sure you do the extra credit at the end. Take him if last choice, find someone better and easy
FOR RUNNING START STUDENTS : This class wasnt it. Im dumb n ended with a B- but tbh everyones right save ur GPA dont take this class with him. We do 1 or 2 papers weekly and he takes off many points over something you miss (BE DETAILED). Not all the questions are based on the study guide so u kinda need to read. Did more essays than English.
That one person who said we are doing more papers than English class they not lying lmaoo and PS try to pick a different teacher (If u do take him - to get an A on the paper TRY NOT TO MISS A DETAIL of events or explain good bc he will take many points off but same time summarize ur analysis to save u time and meet word count or else points off)
Professor Thomason was a mediocre teacher while online. From what I've heard, he is very lecture heavy, but online, he just sent them out, and tbh, I didn't watch one and I did fine. Very tough grader, but he only gives 1-2 assignments per week. Although they are pretty big ones, expect a low 1.5-2 hours of hw a week, but make it quality work.
He gave out a lot of papers! Quizzes were OK, but a lot of reading and the lectures were long. He was chill and some weeks he went easy on us by just giving us a discussion post to complete. I definitely recommend taking the class with a couple of friends so you can help each other out.
VERY tough & slow grader, along with a lot of work every week. The papers were probably the hardest thing in the class, people who say that ain't cappin. He grades SUPER tough, but I understand his reasons (sometimes). I hate reading so I can't really speak too much on that, there's a lot of that tho. Personally, I wouldn't take him again *shrug*
Mr. Thomason was an alright professor. I didnt have any problems with him and the lowest grade I got for a paper was a B (all I did was re-word information from the textbook). Hes a slow grader and releases irrelavent powerpoints. Just make yourself sound smarter by using bigger words (at least that worked for me). Goodluck!
People say he's bad but honestly he's fine. The most he's marked me off is 5 points off an essay which is not bad considering they are worth 50 points. Read the textbook and use quizlet for the quizzes, easy points. If you ask him to read ur essay he will do it. Do the extra credit at the end of the quarter, it's 30 points. That's how I got my 3.8
Hes a slow grader and the absolute worst when it comes to grading, PLEASE DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASSES!!
This class is an EASY A as long as you do what you're supposed to and read. Do not listen to other reviews saying he's a hard grader because he is a very reasonable grader and always gives great feedback. Lots of essays but short and pretty straightforward. Do the readings and put your best foot into the assignments and you will do fine.
Mr. Thomason is a fast grader, and very easy to communicate with. He understands how difficult online classes have been for some students and will make exceptions in certain cases. Would take again! I learned a lot during his class!
He is a pretty straight forward professor. 2 assignments a week ( writing assign. and a quiz) but he never took more than 5 pts off on assignment even though i didnt understand some. Gives good feedback. Do your assignments on time and you should be fine. take time to read the info, sometimes its hard to understand.
He is consistent for every week with questions and a canvas quiz. He grades SO slowly. For my exam it took over a month for him to grade it and get feedback. Its a major problem because you don't get feedback on anything because it takes weeks. It is consistent but if your paper doesn't have his exact checklist then say goodbye to your points.
Tbh, Mark is not a bad choice if you're looking for a chill time, without much student/teacher interaction. In hist137, theres one small quiz and paper both due on sunday digitally for inperson class. The papers are short, 6-900 words, and the quizzes are small too, also HE GIVES ANSWER GUIDES for EVERY QUIZ. You should never miss points on quizzes
Not very understanding and very dense readings. Feedback is limited and unbeneficial. Grades very slowly.
Mark Thomason relies on at home learning rather than in person. It is great if you are a self-learner like myself, but otherwise, get prepared to do a lot of out of class reading and learning. He often went over the past papers in class, rather than teaching new content. He also does not grade very fast, so be prepared. You have been warned.
Mark Thomason was a decent professor. He took a long time to grade papers, which made it harder to self reflect before the next paper. You have a paper and a quiz each week. This is very do-able as the papers are a few hundred words, and the quizzes are available on quizlet. You would be fine if you took his class, but I think there are better.
Throughout the quarter, prof said he would assign the week's assignments on Monday but then would not get around to it until Wed or Thurs. The topics he goes over in class don't relate to the assignments. Assignments weighted horribly. 2 perfect scores on my finals essays would only raise my grade 2.07 percent for hours of work. bad email response.
Not the greatest professor, but certainly not the worst. Posts quizzes or a short paper every week on the material for said week. About one or two textbook chapters per week. Also provides a variety of different resources. However, he lacked any presence in the class given that it was online. In general, hes not too bad.
I wrote so many papers in his class (1 per week) and if u missed a detail he would take off a lot points. his book readings are rlly unecessary (he has ppt with 20-30 slides with a 3 min vo). so much to read for his papers and his gradings are the slowest (took 1 month to get my first test) put in some effort, do your own research n you'll get an A
Slow grader but provides feedback. I did almost all of my assignments the day they were due and managed to pass the class with an A. It's a very reading-heavy class so be prepared for 60 textbook pages + PowerPoints per week. There are generally 1-2 writing assignments each week and occasionally quizzes for which he provides study guides.
Don't take him :)
IF YOU'RE TAKING ENGLISH, DO NOT TAKE HISTORY AT THE SAME TIME! This class is very demanding and there's a 600900-word paper every week, along with a quiz which you study for on your own. Attendance is not mandatory, but I highly recommend going because you hear things that might be useful for the quiz/paper.
Grades very TOUGH. He will find a single reason to mark you down. Exams and quizzes are googlable and are easy. He gives 1-2 essays or prompts with a quiz every week with 2 exams for the whole quarter. He grades EXTREMELY late but will respond back to your emails quickly. You can always ask for an extension as well. Overall, wouldn't recommend it.
Don't take this class with an English class, it will make your life miserable. Very late grader, and marks you down for the thinnest mistakes. All his quiz answers are on google. He gives you A LOT of essays, 1-2 essays every week with a quiz. He gives you extensions very easily and replies to emails very fast.
He's a fair grader and he's specific in what you need to improve on, there's just not much opportunity to make up for what you needed to get better on considering he ended up grading a lot of the work after you've turned in multiple papers.
This was my least favorite class, there was a 1000 word paper due each week with 3 quizzes throughout the quarter. there was not a lot of work to be graded on, and there is a lot of reading to do. The professor also is a tough grader and never got 100% on any paper.
The course content is easy, but I did NOT get a grade on my 2nd week paper for 1.5 months! I received zero feedback on my weekly papers and only got a good grade b/c I'm a good essay writer. If your strong suit isn't essays, I highly suggest choosing a different history professor! Trust the worse reviews, I didn't but they're 100% accurate
In my experience Professor Thomason was amazing, due to scheduling issues I joined his class 2 weeks late and he accommodated for me and asked if I needed anything, the workload is very small and usually only is one 600-1200 word essay. The only reason I didn't get a better grade was because of rushed work and the workload from other classes.
Every week we have to write at least 1 paper and a quiz (could alternate), but he isn’t strict in grading. A lot of the answers you could find in his presentations, he also posts a scanned pdf of the textbook on Canvas. He’s open to answering questions.
First off, I just wanted to say that he is an EXTREMELY HARD GRADER. Sadly, most of the homeworks and exams are papers, ranging from 600-1300 words, so you are going to have to experience his hard grading alot in the class. What's worst is that he barely says anything for feedbacks and expects you to include every main point, VERY SLOW GRADER.
One of the worst professors when it comes to grading that I have had. In this class, you will have around 1 quiz and 1 essay a week, with a multiple-choice test and essay for the final. For each paper, including the final, there are no rubrics. Even if you go over all of the questions asked in your paper points will still be deducted.
You don't hear from him much, but his assignments are pretty straightforward. I found if you completed the work he asked and answered all the questions in your essays you generally got a good grade. Don't let the weekly papers scare you away, they are a lot more intimidating than they are hard.
Be prepared to write a LOT of essays with high word counts. We definitely had more essays than quizzes and Professor Thomason is a relatively tough grader. He also takes a little longer than most to grade assignments so don't expect a grade back on an essay for a couple weeks. The final is both an essay and a multiple choice exam so study hard.
This professor didn't teach anything and only gave large amounts of reading. He grades mostly on essays that he doesn't provide rubrics for. He grades slow and harshly. Would not recommend if you want to maintain a good gpa.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS! If you have a good gpa and want to keep it like that, don't be in his class because he will 100% get your gpa ruined. There is little to no criteria on what he wants to see in your essays. PLUS there is so much reading and videos to watch. He is a slow grader, by the time he grades an essay, you already have another one due.
His history 137 class was pretty hard. He is a tough grader.. You will need a textbook for this class, The Exploring American Histories. I'm selling this book, for $30, condition: Acceptable. If you're interested, contact me through Instagram @Fredrick_f_s
He's good and willing to help but his paper is too much and he's strict person.
No rubrics or clear grading criteria, grades slow, and doesn't provide good lectures. Lectures are just voiceover powerpoint and aren't easy to listen to. Textbook is provided but scanned, meaning some pages are crooked, upside down, or have a hand exposed at the bottom. The class is mostly essays, but he's vague on what he is specifically grading.
He slays
He's willing to help you with your papers but takes off points for the smallest details. A lot of the documents provided for the papers are pretty tough to decipher, so it's best to start your papers early rather than at the last minute to make sure that all details are covered. Make sure to include as many details as you can.
Professor Thomason is a nice teacher, but the grading is where it's a little tricky. He doesn't have rubrics and gives very little feedback. The 2 exams are where he graded pretty harshly and once you get a bad score on an exam, it's hard to come back. I wouldn't recommend taking this class, but if you are forced to (for HS credit), good luck!
600 word papers every week, sometimes two 300-word ones. One extra credit thing (10 points), no late work. Doing bad on a test brings your grade down a lot. Lectures were MIND NUMBING. He just reads off slides that you're gonna have to go through again later. Goes a few mins overtime too. Lots of reading/watching videos. Doesn't believe in rubrics.
A lot of writing each week. He is a VERY tough grader.
So tired of his workload. The work each week just gives me a bad taste in my mouth. It's usually a quiz every week based on the SUPER LONG chapters that take me forever to go through and I despise them. The essays aren't that bad, but the reading is absolutely despicable. He is pretty nice when you email him. But it feels kinda pointless.
He is very strict when writing papers. He does not give ANY sort of rubric for papers and grades them harshly. He gives his form of "feedback" as correcting your writing saying you should add certain subjects but does not allow multiple attempts on papers. You can expect 900-2000 word essays every week. 2 multiple choice tests. Rating: 4/10
Professor Thomason assigns just one thing each week - a paper. However, you initially have to read a long passage from a module he provides or from the required textbook. The paper ranges in word counts - sometimes it has to be 600-900 words, or maybe even 900-1,200 words. He's very specific and strict when it comes to feedback.
do NOT take him. Waste of your time and money, you can practically teach yourself this whole class. To much work and frankly such a duche when it comes to grading. Just DROP him, would love to see him NOT working at greenriver. He brings the schools name down itself.
horrible dont take him.
Worst professor I have even dealt with here at Green River college. Please do not take him. He had caused so much mental strain on my work throughout the quarter. People told me to "DROP HIM" but I refused thinking he was the best. I was so wrong. Please listen to me when I say DROP HIM!!!
I had to take this class for high school credit. It wasn't that bad in terms of work load or really at all. There are a ton of papers you have to write and 2 exams (which even if you take an online class you have to go in person for). The lectures and readings were sort of unnecessary (at some point I stopped doing them and still got a good grade)
He really wasn't bad at all There was work and papers every week but they were all less than 1000 Two written exams and you want to be detail heavy and you will be fine He took forever to grade assignments so you really don't know your grade until the end of the class but I promise yall he's not that bad
Normally 1 or 2 papers, ~600 words each, per week, with no clear grading criteria. However, if you clearly address each point of the question, you'll do fine. There's also a quiz most weeks, but it's open note and not too hard. The exams are the same as the weekly papers.
The professor is very nice and caring, the class does assignment 1-2 papers per week with a 700-word count minimum. I never paid attention in class, never did the readings, or studied for this class and ended with an A. All I did was do the homework and showed up to class.
Professor Thomason's HIS137 class can be challenging, but if you put in the work, it pays off. The weekly papers are detailed, and he's tough on grading, but using unstuck study alongside the textbook can really help. Overall, a rewarding experience if you're willing to engage.
This class is READING and LECTURE HEAVY!!! There is so much material to cover, and his lectures are all recorded videos that cut out sometimes. Essays are done inside a classroom, handwritten, with no notes. I thought this class would be extremely hard, but it turned out to not be so bad. I'd take it again if there were no other options.
Horrible!! Do not recommend. For a history class this was not worth it.
Horible!!!never take him. Lots of homework for a history class
This class is EZ. There is papers to do every week, he stops assigning them like 5 weeks before the end of the quarter so there isnt really any homework to do. His exam is easy if you really study into the details, dont miss any details. If you've taken science courses, his class will not even be half the homework and stress so dont even worry.
You have to write an essay every week and for midterm and final. Reading and writing heavy. Late grader, quarter just finished and he is still grading papers from the 3rd week.
The reviews scared me when I had to take this class, but it wasn't that bad. I would say try and take another professor for History 136 if you KNOW you're terrible at writing essays.
I saw a lot of bad reviews on here for him, but I didn't have any trouble with him. Try to add as much detail in your papers as you can. His recorded lectures over powerpoints are sort of hard to hear at certain points. Two exams, not too difficult for me, the study guide helped me concise key info. I thought he was a pretty good professor.
There are two big tests that are just 2 essay questions each worth 250 points, he gives you like 5-7 questions before and 2 of them are on the test. If you never go to class you can just watch the powerpoints because he just reads off of them.
He didn't give much homework, the mid-term and final are most of your grade. You don't have to go to class because there are PowerPoints which go over everything, however sometimes there are assignments in class that are graded. Overall it wasn't too hard, he does take FOREVER to grade though.
Reading the reviews left by previous student made me a little nervous for the class, but he wasn't bad. He's not the most amazing professor, he takes a while to grade papers and no rubric but his class was not hard. You have papers each week (1-2) but you'll be writing max 1500 words for every week, just be detailed and thorough and you'll be fine!
This Professor is not bad he's really nice and willing to help. The whole quarter there were only 6 short essays, 600-900 words each. Most of your grade is from exams, there are only 2 but they are worth 50%. He's a picky grader, but you can show him your essay's before you turn them in and he'll tell you what to fix for an A, same thing for exams.
Great professor, the other reviews are incorrect, his class is easy, and only a couple of assignments which are very easy. I recommend taking this class.
Don't know why his reviews are so low. He is an awesome professor and seems passionate about his topics. He gives extra credit games and usually his papers are weekly but he stops assigning them near the middle and end of the quarter. Exams are very easy, just don't miss any details on the questions.
I didnt buy or read the textbook and passed with a 3.9, it was a relatively easy class, we got extra credit options too.
He's pretty awesome. 3 tests with about 20 multiple choice and an essay each. All info needed for tests is included in in-person lectures and online lectures, book is kinda useless. Tough grader, he really cares about detail. Make sure to include AS MANY details as possible on essays and you'll be good. He's passionate and cares about his students.
I really like this professor he only gives 3 exams which can be nerve racking, but he gives all the materials needed for these exams and also gives you the questions before hand. he's super chill does not care if you come late which I appreciate, and you can tell he is really passionate about history. taking another class by him too!
All I can say is: definitely don't take his class.
Not sure why his rating's so bad because he was just an average professor. Yes, there was a lot of textbook reading but for the most part the lectures covered what would be on the tests. There were only three tests which meant a lot of info packed in each, but it wasn't that hard. I didn't do readings but glancing over them can easily get you an A.
Wasn't a terrible professor as some people say. Only 1 or 2 assignments each week of reading something and answering questions with a minimum of 500ish words. Sometimes we had to watch documentaries and answer questions to it. This professor answered emails fairly well and gives good feedback on assignments if you missed a point.
I think Mr. Thomason may have changed his teaching style in the last couple years based on these reviews... There was literally no homework for this class. Your entire grade is a midterm and a final, no retakes. I just ignored the boring lectures and reviewed every PowerPoint on Canvas for 3 days before the final. Easy but useless and boring.
We only had like three graded assignments, which included the final and an exam. I wish he would give us review work, but his test grades are heavy, and he talks and reads a PowerPoint. The notes are the PowerPoint slides, and most of the time, he never finishes them, so you have to review and take notes on them on your own.
I have no complaints for this class and Mr Thomason. I thought it was an interesting class with not very many assignments and a lot of interesting information. I do have one small thing is that the Exams are weighed HEAVILY. I found myself studying for 8 or 9 hours because we only had like 4 actual assignments while having 2 huge exams.
This class was heavily graded off of exams and we only wrote 1 paper and 2 in class assignments for the whole quarter. There was textbook reading , but it wasn't neccessary to read at all. I strongly suggest that you show him your prewritten essays before the exam and he'll tell you what you need to improve on. Attendance is graded so show up (10%)
We had one paper and 2 assignments throughout the whole quarter. The two exams were basically worth the entire grade, and attendance/participation was also worth a bit. He was available to review practice essays for the exams and gave good feedback on how to address everything the essay requires.
