Great, high energy professor. He actually succeeded in making math my favorite subject (I'm an English major). His lectures are very informative, but also quite entertaining due to his dry, sarcastic wit.

Mr. Tom is perhaps the best math teacher I have ever had. Although he presents very challenging material, he is very helpful, clear, and concise. I was completley terrified of taking math, but now it is one of my favorite subjects.

Really cool teacher and he makes math easy.

Mr. Tom is a very good Professor he makes it very easy to understand him when he's teaching, however, he grades tests really hard. He also gives homework on a daily bases and your tests make up most of your grade! If you take him you better do a lot of studing!!!

Mr. Tom is a very intellegent, humorous professor. He is very thorough in his instruction therefore, I was able to understand and learn my applications. Before this I was reluctant when it came to math because I hated it, and I wasn't that good at it. Mr. Tom gave me hope, and now I believe that I can finish my math requirements.

I don't know what that other 076 (calc. 2) student is talkin about below, but I find that Mr. Tom is an incredibly good, helpful teacher. Obviously, the class wasn't "easy"... it's math (and calculus!). But still, it could be MUCH harder with a not-so-good teacher, which Mr. Tom clearly is NOT.

awesome great teacher, he's a great friend after several years in the math department. but be careful, he got into a fistfight with a student once. dont rile him up!

He is an excellent teacher. I feel that for once i understand math. He does a great job explaining the material. And Gives you ways to catch up on homework.

Mr. Tom is a great teacher. If you need help he is always there, you just need to ask. Makes a very challenging subject tolerable and understandable. Too bad he can't cut loose in class, because he has a really great dry sense of humor.

Probably the best math teacher i've ever had. The only one i've been able to fully understand since elementary. I took the same class with a different professor and ended up with a D. I couldn't understand a darn thing.

Great teacher!! I have always struggled with math & I still did in his class but he helped me to the best of his ability! I took him for Math 200 and am taking him again for 230! If you like using MyMathLab he uses it a lot! I really enjoyed his class.

Mr Tom is goood teacher. my favorite math teacher so far. he understands how to make math relate able to real life things. and that makes it ALOT more understandable(dumbs it down for us hah). As long as u pay attention dw and show up youll do great!

Easygoing, impersonal, so for that matter grading is kept extremely fair. Teaches everything very fast then genuinely gets worried when his students don't understand parts.You need math lab but can pass on the book. Make sure to get 100% on EVERYTHING in MathLab IF you are sucking on your tests or you will not pass.

He's a great teacher. First math teacher I've ever had at cos and so far he's done a great job. Really later back, and his tests are not hard I just missed a couple due to outside school things, but he's fantastic and would recommend him to everyone

If he gives you the option of scantron or chapter test, take the chapter test!! Very fun teacher, highly recommended.

One of the best math teachers I've ever had, if not the best. He lets the students decide when to have the tests, and all of the HW and quizzes are online via mymathlab, so it is very easy to keep up and understand what we're learning.

I think Tom mark is great at explaining formulas.He has alot of tolorance towards students even though I personally dont know why he allows cell phones in class but he does.He will do extra test reviews/practice before major tests on scheduled dates if asked for by the class/nessasary.

Mr. Tom is the greatest math teacher I have ever come in contact with. He knows how to grasp your attention and keep you focused. I personally enjoyed going to class because I knew not only was I going to learn something new; I was going to understand it as well. All in all he’s a fab teacher and I highly recommend him!

Is a bit difficult but is there to make sure that you understand what he is teaching, he does not sugar coat it and baby his students. I feel like i learned a lot from this teacher.

I struggle really bad with math, and I took Algebra 2 twice in high school. Now in college I took it once and got a B, Mr. Tom is a MIRACLE WORKER! Not only did I get a great grade, I understood it for the first time! He is so kind & patient - he wont move on until you understand. Sit up front, get engaged in lectures and talk to him - trust me.

Mr. Tom was a great teacher the only problem was I held an A the whole semester and then after the final my grade dropped to a B after being promised that if we were attending all classes and were that close he would bump us up. I STILL DESERVE THAT A

Learned so much from this professor. He is very helpful and more than willing to work with you if you are willing to give it your all. It's best not miss any days in his class due to the fact that he does go pretty fast with each chapter but he explains them very well and gives good examples.

Mark Tom is a really good teacher. He goes over everything with a lot of examples. The homework is online and so are the quizes. The test you take in class. I really enjoyed taking math 230 with him. He also spends time in the library where you can go to him for more help. He is just a good teacher overall. I highly recommend him.

Mr. Tom was the best math teacher I've ever had. I had never received an A in math until his class, I recommend anyone struggling in understanding math to take his class. He truly enjoys teaching and makes it so easy to understand.

Mr Tom did the impossible: he taught me Intermediate Algebra. After failing this class at other colleges, I finally passed with a B. I walked away with a real understanding of the subject matter. I think this is one of the toughest classes at COS but if you put in the effort it is well worth the struggle. Mr. Tom is a great teacher.

I took his summer math230 course. I dedicated many hours to this course and would not recommend for someone who has a full-time job. Mr. Tom is very helpful and is easy to get into contact with if you have any questions.

Love this teacher, he has a trial by error method of teaching that allows the students to see the reasons behind why you shouldn't do something a certain way.

For YEARS Ive struggled with math. Mark Tom taught me in one month what I should have learned from elementary well in to high school. His lectures were long but were super bearable because he's hilarious and genuinely cares about his students. Its nice to know that there are teachers who are so genuine and want their students to succeed.

I took him for a summer semester online and he was very helpful through the short month. Anything you need help on he contacts you ASAP and helps out. He is very good about sending frequent emails about the upcoming HW and MidtermFinals. For my final grade he helped out all by showing effort on finals he rounds your final grade. Great teacher.

Great instructor! Very approachable. Had a hard time understanding the material in Rose's class, but Mr. Tom explained everything so much better and easier.

He's a great teacher as long as you're there and ready to learn. If you miss a class you can get behind fast so try to be there as much as possible. If you need help he's just an email away. I recommend taking this math class.

I will say this class was easy for me to start with but I thought he taught everything very well. He was very clear on each section and always went around the room to help individuals. There was always homework due at midnight but it wasn't a lot and before each test he gave examples of each of the problems. He didn't take attendance.

Great instructor. Expects a lot from you. Stay focused and on top of your homework and you should be OK. Tests are hard. But nothing he hasn't gone over. Find out his math lab hrs and get extra help.

He's a great math instructor and is very eager to help and ensure that you understand exactly what you're doing. I failed Math 200 twice before taking his class. LOTS of MathLab, warmups, group work, and doing problems on the whiteboard. Sometimes if he gets irritated he'll give long lectures to the entire class, but that's my only complaint.

Mr. Tom gives clear instructions on what he expects on tests and homework. He answers questions one on one to make sure students understand the concepts. He is a good math teacher and doesn't confuse you with any unnecessary methods. His class is Math Lab heavy but he lets you retry the homework multiple times

Mr. Tom is a great teacher, I haven't taken math in 6 years, but his lectures and the mymathlab website help refresh my memory. He likes participation and this helps you out by seeing if you left something out on a problem, thus helps you do better on tests. Just put in the time into the work and you'll pass. He's too nice and sarcastically funny!

He's a great professor. He makes it clear, however, that if you don't understand something you need to speak up or else he'll move on. I don't think he ever takes attendance, but it's mandatory in the way that you WILL fall behind if you miss the lectures. I recommend him. Remember to speak up if you aren't getting it.

His a good math teacher. He won't fail you but you have to do all the homework and all the assignments in class to get good grades and study for the mid term and final. his serious about everything to pass the class and his work.

Mr. Tom is by far one of the best math teachers I've ever taken. He really takes the time to help you understand the content. Hands down one of the best math teachers I have ever had, took 3 college credit classes with him and got to know him. Caring and tough on you so you can understand the material hes teaching. If you work hard you will pass, if your just taking the class and expecting to be lazy, dont take it.

He truly wants his classes to do well and tries to help all his students. He's fair and as long as you study and do your homework, you'll pass the class.

his one the best math teachers at cos Visalia campus, he gives good feedback on the homework and the assignments and the quizzes to help you on them. he goes every problem to help you to understand them carefully, his not rude, he cares about his students and he doesn't want his students to fail the class, his a fun teacher and amazing.

Mr. Tom is a really great teacher who cares about his students. I took his online stats class. Everything is clear cut. He allowed us to use notes on quizzes and the only tests were the midterm and final. Plus, on the quizzes, you get an unlimited amount of tries. As long as you do the homework, you'll pass.

Prof. Tom is super chill. When I took his class there was a sense of comradare where it wasn't the class verses him but us verses the test. And he was one of us. Were are all there just doing math, it was great.

I really enjoyed taking him this semester. He's very honest & tells you exactly what you can do to improve your work. He gets down to business, but he also jokes around & tries to have a good time in lectures. There's usually a lot of homework, don't procrastinate. He called our class out for doing that.

Honestly so sad that he's not teaching my calc course for summer. I've taken Tom two semesters in a row and he is without a doubt my favorite math prof ever! He's understanding, makes time for you if you need it, is HILARIOUS, and very clear on what he's looking for on the show your work problems for test questions and homework.

Highly recommend Professor Mark, course was very organized and he let you know expectations on day one. Stats in general is a lot of hw, make sure to finish assignments by due date but he gives ec if you do the other portion of the assignment on statcrunch. I suck at math and was able to get an A.

You really need to have a head start in this class. Mr Tom knows his stuff and goes rather quickly. I didn’t take geometry and realize I should have. He’s smart, reliable and does what he says. He did work with me on retakes etc. I just don’t understand his style of teaching this subject.

He is a cool guy but very picky when it comes to how to do work. It has to be done his way which is understandable but is strict when it comes to grading tests. He is for sure willing to help you though. And he lets you know what type of problems will be on the tests which is super helpful.

Mr. Tom was a understandable and considerate teacher. Although the way the homework works is sort of difficult, if you make it on time and do it then you will easily pass this class.

I took Professor Tom fall 2022 math 21 he is a great professor his online class is hard there is alot of assignments weekly but you get to do them over and over until you achieve a perfect grade it is all up to you. I literally finished every assignment the first month of the semester and just logged in to do the midterm and final it was awesome.

Consider Mark for statistics. He is incredibly intelligent, and his patience makes this the perfect class if you have trouble with arithmetic. He suggested tutoring because I had arithmetic problems. I ultimately earn a B and pass the course. He is a math prodigy, therefore enrolling in his class won't be a mistake.

Great professor who legitimately cares about his students. For calc 1, your grade is based mostly on tests, but just do the homework and seek help either from Tom himself or the math lab and you'll pass. Highly recommend him for any math class he teaches.

Professor Tom is by far the best professor I have had. He explains everything clearly and will explain into depth. He is willing to help out his students, he cares for his students. Final is not accumulated there was no midterm.

Not much to be said on the class subject since it will not be offered anymore but it was enjoyable. He was an excellent professor. His teaching style is very clear. Always helped students on the material. Lectures were a lot of material but if you write all the notes and study, you'll pass. Encourages students to do well in school and life.

Like bruh. Do the work and pay attention. He's very clear with what he expects. You will learn a lot. Tom is a legend.

Hardest class I've taken yet--I've never worked so hard for a B. Professor Tom cares for his students and wants them to succeed. It was crazy difficult, but the challenge grew me; it's very rewarding to see what a person can accomplish when they put in the effort. If you're looking to learn great lessons (in math and life) take Tom!

One thing about Tom is that he's gonna give a hard test. Don't let the math genius's fool you, I took Tom for Calc 1 & 2, the BEST test grade I ever got from him was an 88 (felt like Christmas) He's an amazing professor and you'll learn a lot. Calc took over my life when I took him but I somehow I still like the man.
