Prof. Van Stone is a mediocre professor. Lectures were boring most times - he knows a lot about art, which is cool. The final exam was crazy hard - we had to list like 25 different dates and fill in an entire world map listing different countries/cities. He's kinda anal on the final project, too.

Very nice teacher who will try to help you as much as he can; he wants all of his students to pass. His tests however, are pretty difficult (particularly the final) and he assigns a 10-page paper that must be written according to his strict standards. That said, he grades on a curve and gives tons of extra credit so his class is not all that tough.

AVOID HIM! He doesn't prepare his lectures and just starts talking nonsense. If you ask a question he won't know the answer. In no way in- class notes will help you with the final. The final was extremely hard with a hand drawn map that looked more like a liver and you had to identify 50 places. As well as answer about 80 more questions.

Professor Van Stone isn't great but not bad either, honestly the class is pretty easy, just show up and pass and you'll be fine. The homework he gives out isn't entirely clear, but it's fairly easy just ask, if you don't you'll fall behind and won't pass, lectures are easy, I fell asleep sometimes or was on my phone and got an A, just pay ATTENTION

You will love this class instructor who has excellent knowledge about Mexican and South American culture, and his main focus is Olmecs and Maya culture. Be ready to make an essay explaining details about those cultures and compare and contrast them. Overall he explains everything with detail and supports student ideas/achievements during the course

Professor Van Stone is a chill, mellow guy. He gives extra credit on the spot so it should not be hard to pass his class. It seems hard at first but once you get the hang of it. It becomes a breeze. The field trips are important for your grade. If you have enough points at the end of the semester, you dont need to take your final which is cool.

Assignments instructions were unclear and instead of clearing them up he was very rude. Online version of textbook, liked participation, didn't know where class left off, lectures were boring, more extra credit than actual assignments but never gave an A or good feedback. I didnt pay attention at all and missed the final, I got a B.

I think since it was online not everyone is used to learning and I can tell everyone was having a hard time and he will grade things late and is a very harsh/tough grader, he never gives anyone an easy A, this class could be easy but he doesn't really give structure homework/projects. He is a nice guy but is very hard on grading

This class is a disaster, the professor is extremely unorganized, gives horrible instruction on assignments. Can be rude and tells you what not to do but not willing to take the time to explain what he wants. Gives out extra credit but is a harsh grader. Im a straight A/B student I put a 100% into my essays and still got a C overall.

The class is easy, and there is a lot of extra credit, but even if you do every single assignment the professor loses many essays because he is super unorganized. For the class I had 95%, but he decided to grade us based on points. For an A we only needed 140, and I had 150, and on for my final grade he gave a B. Dont take his class.

We watched a bunch of stuff in class and made essays on most of them. That's pretty much the whole class in terms of grades. Professor Van Stone is nice and passionate about art. Assignments are easy, and offers a lot of extra credit, but there's 2 big assignments. If by the end of the semester you have enough points, you can skip the final. Attend class to know what the homework is since he doesn't use Canvas, some assignments based on stuff in class. He is alright but I had to email and text him 10 times to remind him to put in my Olmec outline grade and I told him every day after class. You only need to get a certain amount of points to get an A in this class. This is great, it makes you more motivated to learn about the cultures rather than worrying about grades. Only downside is that he doesn't seem too tech-savvy, so your grades can go ungraded for some time.

Unorganized and kinda all over the place but cares about his subject. Not tech savvy, didn't use Canvas (which can cause issues). Paper every time a chapter is covered. Won't know your grade unless you ask. Difficult if you like structure. Tests are very content heavy. Not ideal, but otherwise okay. There is a final project (term paper / timeline).

Gives lots of extra credit opportunities.

He is not a tech savvy person; he does not use canvas at all. Everything is on paper either you print it, or he will give you a packet. You better ask him how he wants the homework, otherwise you will get a bad grade on it. You will also need to ask him your grade in class otherwise you can't tell. He is an ok teacher, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Brace for lots of current info about art history, archeology, etc. Students have to do the reading, view the exhibit, or video, and write their impressions of the subject. This is key to getting a good grade. You don't have to be English Lit. majors, just be clear, concise, and turn work in on-time. Plus, he makes himself available for questions.
