Do everything possible to avoid the class. Wait for other profs. He would cover one full 40page chapter in one day because "he was behind." A 95% is an A. Very hard and demanding on tests. You have to know every picture/page of the book. If you do take it, expect to study like it's 3 classes in one.

The KEY to the cell biology class is to read the book: focus on the slides that are in the power point and find them in the book: read all the details/information provided by the book. To people saying he's an inspirational soul, his teaching style is horrible and doesn't really "teach" if you actually think about it. Explaining pictures off a slide doesn't count as teaching. He only cares about the ones that are doing well and doesn't care to help the ones that are doing bad. Memorize the book and you MAY pass, not even with A

I found it very difficult to adapt to Vanberkum's teaching style. You MUST read regularly. Memorization is not enough, you have to apply information as well as know minute details. It's an intense class, but a good opportunity to prove your work ethic. I would be cautious about taking another class with him. I-clicker is graded for accuracy.
