Mark is a very smart guy, really passionate about biology and is very good at explaining principals and concepts. Just study his notes really well but dont memorize, understand the material. Tests/exams are very tricky but all the material is from his notes.

besides attending lectures make sure you go to the tutorial.. that was my mistake.... never attended one until after the first midterm, but if you make a effort you should really do well in class... interesting class.. i'd say

Excellent professor. Makes all material relevant and interesting. Goes out of his way to provide students with usable study methods (his notes are available on reserve). It is rare to find such an engaging instructor at York.

He explained the material very well and was able to provide really good/relevant examples to relate the material. There were many assignments that were worth small percentages of your grade, but you had to do them in order to get a decent mark. the assignments were a bit tedious but manageable.

Dr. Vicari is a wonderful Professor. His exams are mainly lecture based - so study from your notes (make sure to attend every lecture) and review after the lecture. It is very helpful. His exams require you to apply what was taught so don't just memorize. He brings examples that pertain exactly to what is being discussed. Good luck!

I highly recommend him for anyone who wants an easy, guaranteed A. His lectures are so crystal clear that even if you don't pay any attention, you will remember every single detail from them! His powerpoint slides are extremely simple yet contain literally all information you need to know for tests (so good bye textbook readings lol).

I actually hated biology before taking his course since I had mostly C+/Cs. But his dynamic lecture style (especially his ability to turn any boring material into a fun, interesting topic) really got me interested in biology, not to mention I had 93% in a midterm (highest mark I've ever had!) And yeah, take him for an easy A.

Hard prof with unreasonable exams...class averages were horrible. You can still get a good grade, but you have to study INSANELY hard...m.c. exams are so specific and detailed, it's ridiculous...better at teaching than gadsden though...do yourself a favor and stay away from these guys

He's probably the best prof I've had at york u. For his class you don't really need to use the textbook because he covers all the materials in his lectures very clearely. As long as you attend all his lectures and take good notes and pay attention this is an easy A class.

One of the best biology profs i've ever had and definatly the best prof at york university. He explains everything he has o very clearly and if things can;t be described with only words he uses the overhead to draw and take side notes with them. If you can learn everything on the lecture notes and the overheads its an easy A+.

Boring as hell, but if you attend class, he pretty much covers everything in excrutiating detail, PRINT THE SLIDES he talks a lot.

Such a nice guy. He just radiates niceness. It's ridiculous, really. Easily one of the best professors I have had at York, if only because he is just so ready to help and encourage his students. A bit of a dry lecturer, maybe, but in an endearing sort of way (particularly when he tries to be funny).

Dr Vicari is a great professor. He definitely knows his stuff. The films we watched in class were very interesting. I definitely learned a lot. Tests are very fair since the material are all from his notes.

This prof is one of the most boring profs I've ever had. I'm not sure why people are saying that he is an exciting lecturer (the material is borong anyways so that makes it harder). He reads directly off his slides.You can sit at home and do what he does in class. He posts his slides and even camera notes online. Tests are too wordy but fair.

BEST PROF EVER. SO approachable and accommodating. His powerpoints and lectures can be a little vague so I would recommend regular attendance, but his door is always open during office hours and he is EXTREMELY helpful. The assignments (or lack thereof) and tests are EXTREMELY fair. One of my favourite professors and I would recommend the course.

Don't know why people say his lectures are monotone, I find his lectures fine. Teaches clearly at a good pace, but goes into a lot of detail, so have to really pay attention. Since he's really detail-oriented, tests are a bit tricky and must prepare well for them. They are fair though; does not test things not said in lecture. Posts doc cam stuff.

I always enjoy attending Doctor Vicari's lectures. Attendance is definitely mandatory unless you get the lecture recordings. He covers a lot of information that is not covered by the textbook. There were math question in his tests however attending the lecture will really simplify these problems; you do not require previous math. ~ he's funny

He is one of the younger profs. Very passionate about what he teaches and provides clear, useful powerpoints to cover all the lecture material. You should def attend as it will impact your grade. A little too much Maths for my liking. But labs were interesting and the workload manageable

Class is really easy as long as you study. You don't even need the textbook because the prof says that for the tests all you need to study from are the lectures.

No need to read the textbook, his tests are straight from the lecture slides. He is a little boring to listen to, but is at least clear in how he gives over the info. Tests are hard but a good grade is obtainable with good amount of studying. Also, he answers emails pretty quick which I like. The labs are a waste though....

What's with all the anti-math whining by the whiners? You need Functions to get in to York science, and you need to take Calculus in 1st year!! If you hate math, then get out of science, you'll need it no matter what type of science you go into. Great prof.

Dr. Vicari is the best prof !!!!! his class is not easy but it's amazing. Attending the lecture is important because his test is based of PowerPoint only. Tests are kind of tricky and you have to make sure to read the questions carefully.

Everything for this course is straight from lectures. He was very clear in giving out his info from slides to doc cam notes, however, tests were a bit tricky and may have been wordy. Don't be fooled with how light the material may be. You get what you work for.

I'm a 4th year student so I have had many profs, and Vicari is one of my favourite! He is extremely organized, explains material very clearly, and puts everything on his slides so you are never guessing what is going to be on the exam - it is all on the slides. The math related problems are well explained and practiced in lectures :)

Best Biology prof. i've had so far in uni. He seems to be a strict, no-nosense person, but is nice, approachable and extremely accommodating to students. Friendly guy, feels like you're speaking with Tom Hanks. Didn't even study for the final exam and got a decent grade, study and this course is a piece of cake! Boring labs, however.

The lecture component of this course is very straight forward. There is nothing that he will test you on which he has not taught. Tests are straight forward. However, the labs on the other hand, are a bit confusing. Overall, it is a good course. One of the easier fourth year biology courses for sure.

He is probably one of the nicest biology profs at york. He thinks in the best interest of his students and is very helpful and understanding. The only con for this class is that the labs are terrible and the TAs even more. However, an A is possible and the tests are a major mark booster.

He's probably one of the nicest profs I've had here, but his tests are kind of frustrating; it'll be like 50 questions on like 10 lectures. Studying for his class is not easy. But, he's a super cool prof.

Prof is a super nice guy and very understanding. Lectures/teachings are straightforward and clear. Lecture slides are 90% of the content of the course, if you study only from the lecture slides (which he recommends) you can get an easy B-B+. Messed up on one of my midterm scantrons, talked to prof vicari and he fully understood and helped me out.

Very competent prof. A bit monotone but lectures are clearly explained and very informative. Midterm is from lecture slides and doable if you study properly. Textbook is reading quizzes and uses iClicker for attendance participation marks. No complaints would easily take again.

Awesome professor! Looks and sounds just like Tom Hanks. Very flexible and easy to work with. Explains everything clearly, available most days of the week, and breaks instructions down on the writing assignments. Grading is spread out in this course, however, it does become hard to keep up. Keep up weekly with lectures; not very difficult concepts.

Mark is the kind of prof you want to have. He is very knowledgable, and conveys the contents to the students very delicately. Slides are the main focus, though for the 3% online quizzes you might need the textbook (but you don't actually need them for the tests). Tests are just (and I repeat, JUST) slides. And please! go to lectures!

Mark is the best! Such a nice and caring person. His lectures are very easy to understand and he breaks down the material in such a simple yet easy to understand way. Loved how he broke down every single iclicker question especially for calculations. Attend class and focus and you should be set! Short answers can be tricky though!

Professor Vicari is one of the best bio profs @ york. Clear + concise lectures, easy clicker question participation points, + no surprises on tests. Biol 2050 requires a fair bit of work but as long as you stay on top of it you will do well. Lab quizzes and final exam were really tough but otherwise smooth sailing!

The only reason I am saying lecture heavy is because all of his tests are 100% based on the SLIDES. The textbook is only used for the online quizzes. He's an amazing prof, just the course material is kind of dull, he does his best to make it interesting. The group exams definitely help bring up your mark a little bit. Be sure to study.

He is the best in the bio department. Tests are easy, group test gives you extra points. The course material was interesting and he made it even better cuz he fully organized and master of this field. Take him, take your A, and enjoy.

After reading his reviews for this course from last year, I was worried. But it seems that he took the feedback seriously because I enjoyed this course. Yes, the material was dry and difficult but the prof tried his best to explain it well and always answered questions. He also curved the exam grades and gave assignments that boosted grades. Solid!

I really love this professor. The tests were reflective of practice problems he would give in class during tutorials, so make sure you attend them! I also recommend doing all the textbook practice. He taught well and took his time teaching. He also answered questions during lecture and tutorial if it was needed.

Overall amazing teacher!!! However, his assessments/tests are challenging. The lectures are composed of about 62 slides in each class (in the final there were over 1000 slides of potential content). He adds information that is very entertaining/exciting research results and he focuses on connecting the content of the course with real-world issues.

Dr.Vicari is one of the BEST profs you will ever have. From the way he teaches to the way he cares for his students, he is an ideal professor to have. His lectures are content heavy and his slides are long, however he is very straightforward when teaching and tries his best to get his students engaged. DEFINITELY RECOMMEND!

Had him for BIOL 1001 and was excited to have him again. Stats is a hard course, but he explains the steps and how to use the equations very well. Adds in good example questions in the lectures for practice, as well as textbook questions. The flowcharts were extremely useful. The best I've done in a math course in my entire life!

Lectures are nice but honestly boring (maybe because the subject is way less interesting than the 1000 course). Only reason ima take off 1 point is cus he takes forever to mark. I mean how can chem profs finish marking a whole 9 question midterm in less time than this guy takes to mark a one-question test ("QOF")

Dr. Vicari is an amazing and caring person, but I will say that the course is in no way easy. There are several assignments and weekly labs which can easily overwhelm your semester (if taking 5 courses). Content is extremely dense. Tests are brutal. Additionally, if you had no clue what occurred during labs, the bell ringer will be a nightmare.

He is literally the LEBRON JAMES of Biology; if you see his name, enroll immediately because I would not be surprised if his course fills up quickly. His teaching style is easy to keep up with, and his examinations are lecture-based, so all you need to do is stay caught up with the lectures, and you will succeed. I highly recommend to take him!

Midterm & final had group components on the MC section that def helped. Textbook is used for weekly quizzes but no content for the tests are from it. Course is alright, content & application heavy though.

He is a good prof, he does what he is supposed to do. He provides slides and the midterm and QOFs and final is just from them. The course itself is a little stupid and contains everything except biology, but he is good. Only problem is his midterm and finals that are slightly heavier and harder than other sections.

I took Biol 1001 and Biol2060 with Dr. Vicari. He explains topics very well and is very clear on what will be on the exam/midterms. He open to helping students. Overall he is very clear.

The professor isn't present, its more of the TA's since its a lab course, lots of fieldwork, gets tedious but its very easy. The midterms are short and direct with what was in the lectures. Lectures can range from one weekly video (5-18 min), then 2 lab days with quizzes. Just ask the TA questions and your good. Prof does NOT respond to emails.

Dr Vicari is very nice and considerate. His lectures are detailed and overall he is a great professor.

Great guy, and one my favourite biology courses at York. The tests are all lecture material and he allows cheat sheets. Labs are light, but the reports do take time to do. Keep up in the course and you will be fine, but assignments do pile up towards the end of the course. Bonus mark(s) for the fun field trip.
