all he does is lecture. if you don't mind a boring class where are you do is take notes, then go ahead. tests and quizzes are both very hard and require you to really know the material. but you do learn a lot, if that's important to you.
Boring as hell! No opportunity for extra credit. He keeps going like the energizer bunny.
all lecture. His class is so much harder than every other history teacher. His exam questions are worded horribly and the better notes you take the worse you seem to do.
His class is nothing but lectures! BORING!! Makes big deal about everylittle thing on tests and quizzes. Wish I had never taken him. Although there were no projects or papers he talks to fast to take great notes, too much reading, 2 textbks.
Nothing but lectures, no extra credit available. Test are awful. I don't know where he gets the questions for the test but it's not from his lectures or from the material in the book. It doesn't even help to take notes or to tape his lectures.
Very Knowledgable. Learned a great deal. It was a lot of lectures, but they were always interesting. His tests tended to cover some material in the book not discussed in his lectures. Be sure to read the assigned pages, and you will do fine.
Awesome. His tests are hard so if you want to skate by and learn nothing, take someone else. He is a very nice man.
You have to take a lot of notes, but if you take good notes, the tests are very easy. In addition to tests, he gives a map quiz with each unit.
THis guy knows his history. He does have a lot of lectures and a lot of reading. He test will check to see if you actually did your homework. I recommend taking his class if you really want to learn some history.
Lecture type class, tons of notes, usually of good quality. Downfall is the reading assgn. they are very boring and he throws them on the test.. must read. No extra help on the grades.. 2 pts off on my final exam to raise me to next letter grade! He screwed us on the final w/ reading questions..
Excellent professor. He teaches the course more like he is telling you a story and emphasizes that you understand the material rather than memorize dates and events. Very enjoyable courses.
Lectures only, but your notes should suffice as a study guide for tests. Listen in class and you should be fine. Don't fall asleep or he will go crazy! Smart man, but a little loopy sometimes. Missed like 10 days though. Overall a good teacher I thought but some people may not like him.
Vickery is a great teacher in my opinion. He can be tough but as long as you're respectful, do some work and you show up to class he will not fail you. I left the class very interested in the subject.
enjoyed his lectures cause I enjoyed the subject matter. Geography quizzes brought me back to middle school...needless to say an easy A there. Tests were fine as long as you stayed abreast of the material
The guy speaks like a HIGHLY educated person that just came off a PBS show. Loads with busy work instead of teaching the material to you. First day 60 page reading. HARD to understand when he speaks!!!! Not very organized. I am an A student with 3.8 GPA, I have not seen such a prof. before. BORING BORING BORING BORING BORING!!!!!!!!!
Gotta Study in his classes.
Easy as long as you pay attention and take notes in class. Reading assignments not necessary from my experiences although it does help. He's very into history and it shows. I hate history and now I'm somewhat interested while he's teaching. Dates are not important with him, but names definitely are.
BORRRRING!!!!!!!
Pretty easy professor if you pay attention and take good notes. He knows his material and teaches well.
Class starts out easy, and gets harder as each day passes. I got a 92 on the first test, a 74 on the 2nd test, and not sure about the third, but i finished with a C. I payed attention, took a**** ton of notes, and studied them. His test questions are hard and very confusing. Most questios are like this : A. 1, B. 2, C. 3, D. A and B, E. A and C
Cool teacher, made me want to learn. You can tell that he loves to teach history. At times he is hard to understand and some of his test questions can be a bit challenging to understand. Overall a great teacher.
Not to diffcult of a course. However you must attend class and be on time. His tests are not hard, but sometimes they tend to be confusing. The lecture is long and boring, however if you can withstand the boringness and take good notes. The test will be easy.
His class was sort of easy. Make sure you go to class and never be absent. He gives out a lot of quizzes and test but if you take notes and study you will be ok.
He makes you work for your grade. He is a pretty good teacher, but it is not a give me grade. You get what you earn.
Good teacher, just watch out for the map exams!
Good teacher. Really knows what he is talking about and loves to teach. He assigns a lot of readings but only has one or two questions on the tests about them. The test questions are very vague and hard to understand, but the map exams are easy if u just study the maps for a few minutes.
Great Professor. Lecure->Quiz->Test. This can be boring for some, BUT I LOVE IT! .. I got all "A"s this semester, but I got a "B" in his class..mostly because I didn't do the out-of-class readings. .. Oh, and there's a LOT of out-of-class reading that he tests on (but doesn't go over in class). If you don't read it, expect to drop a letter grade.
I would strongly recommend him for a history class. If you have to choose between him and Sorseit, definitely go with Vickrey. He is very organized and clear with the topics that will be covered. He also posts his PowerPoints online. If you study just a tad its an easy A!
i was surprised that his class was so hard. i studied very, very hard and only received a "C." the quizzes are nothing like the tests, both of which are very tough. he's very nice and knows the subject, but he will not acknowledge hard work. your grade is your final grade no matter your effort.
Mr. Vickery expects his students to do all the readings and understand several important historical periods. The class itself was very interesting, he lectures well and is very knowledgeable. Slacking in his class doesn't work. Nonetheless he is a great teacher with strict no-cellphone policy and mandatory attendance.
Vickrey is a good professor.Lecture, lecture, lecture and expect to learn more than you can take in at first. But, do the assigned readings, take notes in class and you will be ok. I took two classes with him, studied hard and got to high B's.He is always there to answer questions and take a second in class to help you out. No slacking tolerated!!!
great lecturer, but can be boring at times. book is always used and you will be tested on the book material. he will get angry if he finds out the class didn't read the material. a little bias with his subject but over all a good teacher. not many assignments.
he is very helpful if you talk to him, as a person he is very nice and friendly. His class is hard... 3 quizes, 3 map quizes and 3 exams. the comprehension level can get very low on his exams bc the way he word his wording of questions can be very confusing
Extremely knowledgable and decent lecturer. As a professor though, he is one of the worst i have ever had. DO NOT TAKE IF YOU HAVE HOPE OR VALUE YOUR GPA. He tests mainly over his points from his lectures which are not in notes and not covered by the book. If you don't absorb every word the man says the first time you are screwed with no recourse.
Very hard class, although he knows his stuff, and the lectures were very interesting. I studied my ass off and cheated, made a C. So if you want to learn alot ake him, if you want an A dont take him.
He knows the subject. He's hard if you don't study. Pay attention to when he writes notes on the board. His test will include information given to you on the board. That's why some people can't find the answer in the book.
I really enjoyed his class. He is a true historian, and his passion for history and teaching are obvious. His lecturing style makes history very interesting, and really pulls you into the lesson. He has high expectations of his students, and expects hard work. Pay attention in class, take notes, and study.
Nice man hard tester STUDY THE MAPS HE GIVES YOU IN CLASS THEY WILL BE ON THE TEST.
Although attendance isn't required at SPSU, in this class, he urges it, or else he will deduct it from participation. He is very understanding and very willing to work with you, but is a harsh grader and does give u 3 quizzes, 3 exams & 3 geography exams.
He is a good professor. Hard, hard grader. Alot of quiz's, tests, and yes, map quizzes. He knows his stuff. If you need to ask a question in class, be prepared to repeat it. . Loudly! He is hard of hearing. All and all, not a bad experience. Got out of us history II with a C.
Knows his stuff. Lots of work though. And yeah, you have to yell questions two and three times for him to hear you.
Lectures are boring and extremely informative, but this is not where the class got hard. Tests are few and require you to memorize many names(since there is no word bank) that all sound the same. I'm still trying to understand why at an engineering school, where they train people to be architects or engineers, you need to know what Moksha is.
He has 90 slide powerpoints which are really boring. His tests are really hard. He has fill in the blanks questions with NO WORDBANK.
Very knowledgeable and passionate historian, but I wouldn't recommend his class. Boring lectures, HARD tests. He has questions that were not covered in notes, lectures, or the book.
Mr. Mark Vickrey is very knowledgeable and educated person. I like his passion for history. I enjoyed his lecture; it was very interesting. If you like history take this course with him, but you have to work hard to earn good grade. His quizzes and tests are hard. However, if you take note during the lecture and read the book, you will do fine.
Probably the worst teacher I chose to take at SPSU. He interrupts his lectures frequently to get on people using electronics or sleeping. He also is older and has problems hearing. You basically have to yell if you want him to hear you and the classes are extremely boring. Don't take him.
Took the online class. There were some hiccups with the format, but the Professor was accommodating. Pretty good experience and I learned neat some stuff too. Just put a little effort in, and you will do fine.
He's old and can't hear, but he's extremely knowledgeable and teaches history like he was there (well, he might've been since he's so old). His tests are very hard so study your notes well. It's annoying how frequently he interrupts class to get onto people texting or sleeping. Overall he's a good guy and I find his lectures interesting.
DO NOT TAKE!!! I took his online HIST 1111 class and it was a nightmare. Very good explanation of material but his tests are ridiculous, unless you are a history buff do not even attempt if you want an A!
Dr. Vickrey is a great professor. He is really hard of hearing, so be prepared to repeat a question 4-5 times. He gives 3 quizzes, 3 map quizzes, 3 exams, plus a final. I have never really had much interest in history, but Dr. Vickrey's lectures kept me interested and almost fascinated.Very good at what he teaches.Don't Buy GA History book for onlin
Vickrey is a very nice guy, lectures pretty well, everything is amazing except his tests, which are EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. There's almost no way to make a good grade in his class, even if you go above and beyond everything covered in his class. really really HARD grader!
He has trouble hearing but he seems like he really enjoys the material he is teaching. He posts all the powerpoints online so you don't really have to go to class except for tests and quizzes.
Easy professor. Study your notes, keep note of anything he puts on the board, and do your practice maps. You don't need to do the textbook reading. He puts the same stuff in the notes. He really loves history & loves teaching about it. Very nice guy. His video choices are a little dull though.
I really enjoyed taking this course. If you showed up to class and paid attention, really all you had to do was study the slides online in order to do good in his class.
Prof. Vickery's class was much better than expected.
DON'T BUY THE TEXTBOOK - JUST TAKE NOTES!! His class is pretty hard. There are 390 points in his class. 300 comes from the three tests that you will take at 100 points each. That includes one final. If you plan on passing the class, do GOOD on the tests. If you do DECENT like me, you might be borderline. I PASSED THOUGH!! HAHAHAHAHA!
I would recommend Vickrey I you only care about passing the class, but you don't care what grade you get. He's a good professor (there was only three weeks during the semester you had to work hard and those were test weeks) and his LecturesPowerPoints are clear. Study guide material is in the book, PP'sLectures, and articles. Do not watch films.
An unnecessarily difficult online history class. At first, he was going to make us take our exams with a proctor, but instead let us take them using Respondus lockdown browser that VIDEOS you the entire time. Creepy. Tests are way too hard and he gives rude feedback on the answers you got wrong. Don't take his class please.
Online students BEWARE, prepare to teach yourself. Serious disconnect between required readinglecturestextbook & exam questions. On-site proctoring required SATURDAYS or ProctorU (requires webcam) Avg grade is well below B! Only 3 exams (fill-in blanks, essay, muti-choice) no extra credit, papers or discussion points. PT professor-is a nice guy
He uses powerpoints to cover the material and he adds a few notes on the board sometimes. Make sure you write down the notes and study them. He tests only on the notes so as long as you study them, you're fine. He also has 3 map quizzes he gives but he gives you 3-4 weeks for each one. Just simple memorization. And don't use your phone in his class
Professor Vickrey gives multiple tests and quizzes covering the lectures. He reads from powerpoints so if you're planning on taking notes, either write quickly or just wait from him to post them online. The tests and quizzes cover the notes and he throws in some map quizzes. I had the textbook but hardly opened it despite the homework assignments.
AVOID! He grades like history it is your major and is super particular when grading (lots of essays). Also he is deaf in one ear and can barely hear in the other, so if you want to talk to him, be ready to basically tell the whole class. No technology and he WILL call you out.
Professor Vickrey is a really good professor and is a great guy. To me, his lectures and sense of humor is pretty good and he makes the class interesting. Unfortunately, he is a harsh grader. His tests will make you miserable, even if you study for them, and he is unnecessarily harsh with his test questions, particularly the fill-in-the-blank ones.
Vickrey knows his history really, really well. He can almost always answer any question, no matter how specific. Tests are over lecture material, NOT book material, so show up every day and take careful notes, because he expects you to understand and remember everything he has ever said.
Vickrey was a very good professor because he was very knowledgeable, but his tests were impossible. Tests had many sections to it and the multiple choice questions were really specific. Lectures were boring and you HAVE to listen because that's what his tests are based on. Powerpoints posted on d2l. 3 exams, 1 map quiz, and 5 quizzes.
took the class online. The most boring monotone professor i taken thus far. gave recycled PowerPoints & i had no interaction with him whatsoever. The worst part is that he gives lengthy study guides, but majority questions on his tests were nowhere to be found on study guides or PowerPoints. avoid his class unless you absolutely have to take it
Dr. Victory wasn't exactly a bad professor, but he wasn't as organized as he should have been for an online course. There were a lot of resources and material available to us, but the format was very confusing because it was all on D2L instead of Bearface or something. Other than that, everything was pretty fair. I'm just terrible at social studies
This is a lecture heavy class and he is a tough grader on test essays. Professor Vickrey Can't hear very well so asking questions is a pain. There are also very few grades in this class so you have to study for tests and quizzes.
I took his online class. He is a pretty good professor, it's just a hard class. He is organized and a fair grader. I was overwhelmed with all over the reading, but fortunately we only had to do one group discussion post. There is a quiz every week. Get good grades on the quizzes and that well help you pass the exams.
Hard of Hearing, Which you think he wouldn't be teaching large classes in a lecture hall. Gives study guides, which have no correlation to the actually quizzes/ tests. Recycles materials , From the rubric to the Tests. The amount of typos and inconsistency is shocking. PowerPoints are posted on D2L, however the test are mostly his vocal lectures.
The class is almost entirely lectures. He is hard of hearing, but he is knowledgeable in just about every topic pertaining to the class. There are 3 tests, 3 quizzes, and 3 map exams. The topics covered in class are what is tested, so going to class is essential as well as taking good notes. He's not bad if you put in the work.
Good teacher, easy to hear what he has to say, makes history interesting,he is partially deaf, but will make an effort to hear what you have to say and does a good job of making sure that you understand the content of the class, the only homework is study and do the readings. only grades are tests and quizzes: easy if you show up and do the reading
Don't take his online course! There are basically no lectures and there in a ton of reading. He posts a 2-5 minute podcast of the topic and a couple of power point slides. Learning the rest is up to you. The tests are extremely difficult and detailed and have questions on material that isn't on study guide or other material.
DO NOT take this professor's online class. An unjustifiable amount of the information needed for the exams was not given anywhere. He took so long to grade an exam that he gave everyone 10 points extra to make up for it, and blamed it on "spring break procrastination". Do your job Mr. Vickrey, spring break is for the students.
WOW! Toughest class I have EVER taken. Most of his quizzes and tests are worded or formatted completely different than he presents them in the 7 million podcasts you have to watch. Oh, the podcasts cover only 1% of the material and you would think the rest comes from the main points of the readings but they come from somewhere in left field.
BORING powerpoints every class. he goes on rants a lot. expects you to read textbook AND online documents for each test. THERES A LOT OF READING. If you go to class and take excellent notes, you'll still fail. the tests and quizzes have Qs he never went over. Attendance matters. No extra credit. nice guy but awful professor. If ur stuck w him, READ
There are 3 units with 2 quizzes and 1 test for each unit. He's not specific when it comes to whats going to be on the test. Hard grader and he doesn't enter your grades just one over all average.
For online classes, he gives you 10 minutes to complete quizzes of 10 questions. You must read Power Points slides, textbook materials and Milestone documents in every chapter, and from all of this information, only 10 questions on the quiz. Students are recorded when taking exams.
Not the best professor I've ever had.... ALOT of reading and very vague on the study guides for the tests. Huge amounts of info to remember for each test and the questions are all over the place. Avoid !!
There are some straight forward questions and some extremely detailed ones. He does include the terms in study guides, but there are much more asked in the tests. He makes you buy a textbook, but a week before each test you receive an email that tells you to not study from the textbook since it will confuse you. Last 5 quizzes' answers on quizlet.
The tests were very hard every time. Study guide never helped for the exams. The exams cover less of the lectures and more of the readings, articles and videos. Short answer and fill in the blank for history is not a good match, it is very difficult recalling names you can't even pronounce.
This class is hard for no absolute reason. He tells us to read chapters in the textbook but then emails us 3 days before the exam and tell us to not read the book because it'll confuse us. um, what? also its hard to figure out what to study for with the quizzes . there's so much reading its ridiculous.
DO NOT TAKE A COURSE WITH HIM AS YOUR PROFESSOR! Doesn't matter if its online or not, he is awful. If online, all exams are required to be taken with a lock down browser and a video camera. Quizzes are difficult even when you use your notes and have nothing to do with any of the lecture powerpoints. I will most likely have to withdraw.
Don't take this class. Don't bother looking at the slides because none of that is on the test. Honestly i cant even tell you what to expect. Just don't even apply for him. He ain't benefiting nothing
He is not a bad person, but makes his class unusually harder than it should be to pass. There are 6 grades all semester and he does not tell you what to specifically to study besides the map quiz portion which is 50% of the quizzes and then you no longer need to know the map portion for the test. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS ONLINE OR IN PERSON WITH HIM
Took his history class online, worst mistake of my life. He gives weekly quizzes based off an absurd amount of content (usually powerpoints or video lectures) and the quizzes are only ten questions long and ask incredibly basic information so you usually dont need 90% of the info he makes you learn. Exams are impossibly specific and long. avoid!!!
Never take his class ever online. It took me at least a month to receive all my test grades and his lecture content consists of podcasts and at least a 2 hour video required for knowledge on one of the tests.
His tests are very hard, and a lot of it depends on how well you took notes in class - you seriously can't zone out for even a minute or you may miss an answer. He's a great lecturer though, and will enrich his teachings with his vast knowledge on the all the smaller details. If you take good notes in class though, it really should be a breeze.
Tell you to read from the book weekly, listen to short podcast lectures he records that will put you to sleep. Gives weekly quizzes that are easy if you do the reading. Come test time he tells you to forget everything you read from the book and gives you a bizarre vague study guide. One semi bad grade on exam will make you fail entire class BEWARE
Just keep up the schedule he has for you and you'll do great. He is willing to work with his students. 3 Exams, 10 quizzes.
The tests were near impossible because most information covered on the exams were left up to your own interpretation and did not follow the lectures that he posted. Each module is followed with a quiz, and many times there was information on the quiz that was not covered till the next module however you were still expected to know it.
Online class of 15 modules w/ 10 quizzes and 3 exams. For the quizzes, they are easy as long as you looked at the content for module. Alright exams b/c he does ask some random or specific questions that were not mentioned in the lecture or textbook. So, just watch out on what he emphasizes to know & look at the study guide lightly. Take for an A.
Most disorganized class Ive ever taken. Dont waste money on textbook. Dont even take this class, you will fail ( I failed and Im an A/B student who worked incredibly hard) had to ask HIM to host weekly meetings and to provide study guide. Worst class Ive ever taken.
I've never had a c, and after getting an F on this mans test, I withdrew. First off, he will NOT be clear on what is on his tests and quizzes. Second, you have 3 tests and 3 quizzes, and that's it. If you mess up one, which you WILL, you're done. Lectures are awful. Sends the "study guide" out on the day before the test at 4:36 AM! DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Prof. Vickrey is very knowledgable of what he teaches, and his lectures are always very insightful for the units we learned. Studying is a must in this course, as well as very heavy note taking and reading in preparation for every test and quiz. 3 tests, 3 quizzes. Overall a very good class during my time taking it, but reasonably difficult.
Was not an easy class at all.
Heavy lectures, Tests are very specific and study guides are literally useless cause it's just an overview of the 10 units that is jammed into one test. would not take class again!!
Only take this professor if you are a history major. His class requires that you learn a lot of content, he is very vague on what will be on the exam and the study guides just have everything that the book, first source documents, and what he has said in lectures on it. The amount of material is immense considering you still have other classes.
Dont take this class. Although the workload is relatively manageable and the quizzes are pretty easy. There are only 3 tests, all of which are extremely difficult and have nothing to do with anything he teaches. I studied for weeks and still got a failing grade on ALL his tests. I usually make As in all my courses. This is my 1st C.
I would not recommend taking this course to anyone. All of the material is from 5+ years ago and he is very hard to reach via email. On top of that, he takes three times as long to grade as he says he does. The study guides he provides are not very helpful with his tests and most of the readings are irrelevant. Do not take this course.
History has always been my best subject and I always took AP history in high school. I have never struggled so hard in a course. The lectures are overwhelming with information that you don't know is useful or not. The tests weigh so much in the class that failing even one can ruin you. I made high 60s on them but still failed. I don't recommend!
Oh Man, if you have him please drop! Unorganized, 3 quizzes and 3 exams for your grade in the class, takes forever to grade tests, hard to reach, and goes off on a ramble when your in his lectures. Always late to class, You dont use the textbook. I make As & Bs so this was my first C. Stay away!!!
Mr. Vickrey is a very nice man, but his class leaves a lot to be desired. He will oftentimes show up to class late and or unprepared. As for his online tests, they are very difficult. With a short timer and not being allowed to review previously answered questions, if you don't dedicate many hours to studying, you will not pass this class.
Disorganized, always late, outdated material, and awful grader. Dont take this class, if you want to ACTUALLY learn world history go watch Crash Course. If you want an easy F, this class is for you
Comes to class late. You have 3 quizzes and 3 exams. The lecture pdfs are very long and almost impossible to study for the quizzes and exams. You'll have 20+ multiple-choice questions, essay, paragraph, and word choices in the exams.
He was almost always late to lectures. He gave no classwork besides 3 Quizzes and 3 Exams. His lectures were super boring and he would go off on unrelated stuff frequently. TL;DR: Don't take this guy.
Prof. V has made it VERY clear that he does not care about this class. He's always late and disorganized, and takes FOREVER to grade tests. Prepare to take test 3 before knowing your grade on test 2. There are only 6 grades in the whole class, 3 quizzes and 3 tests. He also will not help struggling students. PLEASE AVOID THIS CLASS!!!
He wasnt a bad guy it was just the quizzes and exams that were a problem. Not matter how hard you study we would all end up getting a 40 or a 60 on the test. Many of the exams had information that was NOT in any of the reading we had yo do. You could not pay me to retake this class and be prepared to do a LOT of reading because its ALOT.
Horrible teacher! Always late to class (in person and online), boring lectures, and outdated materials. Not to mention he barely used the textbook. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
This professor was always late to class and gave no heads up. He was often unprepared and disorganized. There were 3 tests and 6 quizzes and students only did well on the map quizzes. As far as I know, most of the students failed all the tests. He was also really hard to reach via email. Please do not take this class if you can avoid it.
Please save yourself and DO NOT take this professor. The content on his modules... pointless, useless, along with the study guides. DO NOT expect anything of his modules to be on the exams and quizzes. He takes FOREVER to grade exams, took a month each time to grade them because they're MC, T/F, Fill in the blank, and short answer.
Hard guy to pass. You will learn a lot, though. Not an easy A.
I would not take this class online. He only grades off of test and quizzes. You have to read the textbook to get the info for your test and quizzes. He is also hard to get in touch with sometimes and it takes him FOREVER to grade your test. It takes him until the next test to get your grade back and there is no feedback. His test are hard as well.
For the love of God, please do not take this class. He is always late to class, has boring lectures, and grades very harshly. The tests are ridiculously hard and there are fill-in-the-blank questions that are almost impossible to remember. The test are weighed so heavily that if you fail one, you might as well forget about passing.
I took this man's class almost a year ago, and I still shutter thinking about this class... Always late, always unprepared, and always a sweating mess. He literally slept through one of our tests without opening it, and blamed us for it! Mr. Vickrey needs to retire, and I find it disgusting that the school would still let him teach.
PLEASE DON'T TAKE HIM. We had 9 assignments the whole semester and they were all some form of a TEST and all were hard. No homework or extra credit to help your grade stay afloat. Attendance is mandatory for a grade but will only count against you. 3 no shows and you lose a letter grade. 5 star reviews are lies they took his clsss in COVID/2020.
I had a really bad time taking this class. Your grade is quizzes and 3 tests. The tests heavily impact your grade. He has long PowerPoint, videos, long articles, and excerpts from the textbook. The quizzes are usually guess work, but the tests are difficult. When I reached out to him about my grade, he was a bit snarky. I wouldn't take his class.
Nothing, I mean mean nothing will help you get ready for the exams. The quizzes are easy because they are over the reading you have to do, but everything else is difficult. He takes a month or two to grade the exams. Less than half of the reading shows up on the exams. He also uses lockdown browser with the webcam activated.
Very information heavy lectures but his slides are very lacking. I would not recommend you to take the class face to face.
Heavy and difficult test questions, you gotta read or you won't pass the class.
During the first week, Mr. Vickrey told us that his slides were from the book, but he will also teach us about some things that are not in the book. For this reason, it is heavily encouraged that you show up to class and take notes. Make sure you study his map quiz emails. He is great because you don't need specific dates.
Professor Vickrey is someone who truly does love history, the class itself isn't a difficult class as long as you take notes and study. He sometimes has trouble hearing, but besides that he is a good professor overall. The one catch is if you miss a certain amount of days, you lose a letter grade.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! His whole class consists of 9 grades the whole semester. He does not really do much in order to help you pass, whenever you try taking notes from his powerpoints it just constists of one sentence, and spends the rest talking about who knows what... all of the things he talks about is not covered in the heavy graded tests
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! When I tell you this class should not have been this difficult. Your grade is basically compiled of quizzes and exams. There is no make up and no multiple attempts on quizzes. Lots of reading and reading documents. The study guides are not helpful at all and do not prepare you for the exams.
Professor Vickrey was awful. My classmates and I spent the whole semester teaching ourselves and trying to figure out how to get higher than a C on tests. All he does is give 1 or 2 5 minute videos a week that he probably recorded years ago. The rest is reading and you better remember the most obscure details. He also doesn't drop test questions.
This professor has been teaching for a long time. While he is rather personable, his teaching ability is not very present. Not to mention his attendance, he is late nearly every class and its stringent about letting people leave class early for any reason. He also has a very strict cell phone and headphone policy.
DON'T TAKE THIS MF. THE TESTS ARE SO HARD AND EVERYTHING IS LOCKDOWN WEBCAM FOR NO REASON. Its a base gen ed history class and this dude made it the HARDEST class I've had in college. He expects us to put 20+ hours a week on history. BRO HAS NO LIFE HE WATCHES THE TEST WEBCAMS AND TAKES FOREVER TO GRADE, FOREVER. Class size went from 150+ to 20 ppl
Grade= 3 exams 100 pts each, 90 pts worth of quizzes, 10 pt syllabus quiz, 10 pt intro post & 40 pt DB. Weekly list of things to read, followed by weekly quiz. Readings are extremely long. Exams have MC, T/F, fill in blank, open response. Questions on exams & quizzes are very hard. Very difficult class if not interested in history, enjoy reading.
Takes forever to give out exam grades. Over 20 hours of reading a week. Exam questions are super specific. LOCKDOWN BROWSER WITH CAMERA. Supposed to be a gen ed class but its giving history major. If registering for classes and his is the only one left take something else so you can get a different professor the next semester. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!!!
This class has like 10 total grades that go in for the semester and they are pretty much all quizzes and tests. He does have lots of resources and such for each unit but you're essentially teaching yourself just by reading everything and hoping for the best.
Honestly, the only reason I passed with a B was bc he dropped this one assignment. His lectures are boring and the readings are incredibly long. When I emailed him once about a quiz he seemed a bit passive-aggressive and gaslit me. If you're like me and don't rlly like history GOOD LUCK TAKE SOMEONE ELSE
he is unprofessional and the notes he gives never matches the exams or quizzes he gives and does not offer any work sheets or extra credit
My experience with professor Vickrey is very positive. He's so well read in history that he lectures from memory and a guiding power point which I appreciate very much. His lectures are quite interesting. If you get good at summarizing what he says in lectures and read the chapters carefully, you will do well in this course.
If you are a history major that already knows every fine detail in all of modern day history, this class will be a breeze for you. If you are the 99% of other people, especially a freshmen that got stuck in this class because of KSU's block schedule, you're done for - Fill in the blank tests - 2 resources you have to buy to take the class
He is literally deaf, if you ask him a question, he wont be able to hear you and most of the time he wont answer the question. The quizzes and tests are hard and he does not provide good insight on certain questions. His lectures are also quite boring. He seems to be a chill guy but if you have a choice, i wouldn't recommend him.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. I was struggling and when I reached out he literally told me to withdraw. Didn't try to help me AT ALL.
Would give him a 2.5 but rounded to 3. His online survey of world history course is fine. Takes him very long to grade and tests are much like AP tests (essay questions included). He was very critical on how everyone performed on the open ended questions. Despite I found his lecture videos pretty informative and not boring. Do not be too scared.
Absolutely awful. World history, but you're learning about religion, Greek Gods, and stuff that should be in a different class. Lots of stuff to read, but the tests are different from the readings. Would not recommend this professor.
MUST attend lectures, exams based on what is said in class, also powerpoints have very little info, just the main points he talks about in class. MUST take notes. 3 exams, 3 quizzes (pretty easy), 3 map exams-easy Lectures are pretty good (it's history, it's boring). Exams are kind of difficult, really need to study hard, but possible to get an A.
While the professor is knowledgeable, this class is a real slog. Tons of dense readings and exams that test obscure details. Thankfully, tools like unstuckstudy helped me survive the workload. Not recommended unless you're a history buff.
It seems like this is a course for history majors and his tests are very specific and he takes the whole semester to grade them. I did not get my grade for my first test until October. Every time I feel good about his tests, I end up coming short in some way. he also assigns video lectures from 10 years ago. and provides NO extra credit.
Honestly horrible. Tests are nothing like the lectures and just doesn't know how to teach. Powerpoints are brief and dont explain anything. He's also rude for no reason, criticizes your work instead of giving actual feedback. Tests are lockdown with multiple choice, true or false and short essay question. Do NOT take him
Removes an entire letter grade for 3 absences, expects far too much from students who have more difficult things to do than a world history class, tests grades will max out at an 80 since the last 20% of questions are just random that can't be studied for, watched him literally kick a guy instead of tapping him to tell him to pay attention
Okay so as someone who has never taken an online class, this was not a good beginner. It was a lot of work and a lot of reading. If you are good at self-pacing, then you should be just fine. I ended up having to withdraw, but he was so sweet when I told him I was withdrawing. He is an understanding man.
simply, do not take him. save yourself.
Such a strict grader and so mean. Literally insults and degrades written response questions on exams (which are very hard). Don't take him
i dont think hes outright mean--hes just very old fashioned attendence is very mandatory (although he forgot to pass out the attendence sheet half the time). tests are multiple choice + fill in the blanks + 1 essay response, and they're pretty difficult. tho he was sweet when i would email him about my absenses, and let me take a test at home.
I wouldn't recommend that you take this class with him. This class and specifically the tests are so focused on little details that are irrelevant to the overall picture. no extra credit opportunities!!!! emails and feedback are very passive aggressive. takes months to grade exams and comes up with some excuse.
Grades hard on the tests and if you aren't locked in right from the beginning and get a good grade on the first test you are soft locked to only a B max. He rambles a lot during his lectures and most of the time reading the text book is useless. Just memorize the content in the power points and hope he doesn't give some bs on the test.
Save yourself and do not take him unless it's your only option
I would've given him a 2 but he let me make up my final after I missed it. He's an okay-to-solid professor but don't make any spelling mistakes AT ALL. ANY.
