He is the most bisexual teacher i know.... he****girls who are 3x's younger than him but he wears shirts and sweaters that scream help!!!!!! and he has an annoying habit of walking back and forth in the class and moves his hand like oh my god.. heehhehe... very distracting stay away from him awwwwhhhh!!!****anything that has **** and an ass. watch out .. especially blonds
The guy knows his**** and keeps it interesting.
Hes a great teacher.. great lecturer.. easy to take great notes.. Funny guy.. impression of little children being sacrificed by Cathiginians.. priceless
umm. he's kinda of weird...he paces too much and doesnt wipe off the bored allthe way.. kinda annoying.
By far the best history teacher of all time...thats all I have to say about that!
the guy went on bout how there r 2 ppl in life...****es and hoes. then he told us proud he was a ho instead of a ****. great life lesson right there.
best teacher i've ever had...he's quirky and makes**** interesting...got me to change my major so hey, kudos to him.
The class is more interesting than it could be I guess. He has the most amazing memory I've ever seen, even with a lecture hall of students, he remembers if you don't come He really tries to connect with the students to make the subject more appealing which is nice but sometimes slightly insulting
Dr Walia knows his stuff, hands down. He's passionate about the material and VERY thorough in his lectures - I didn't even use my book. Just 3 essay-only tests. I generally don't like history but REALLY enjoyed his lectures; he keeps it interesting. His study sessions help. Speak up in class. Great, friendly guy. I'd take him again if I needed to!
he opened up my eyes to history!! i've never liked the subject...in fact i hated it, but his style of teaching is so entertaining...it makes you want to learn!! go to class, take notes, go to his study sessions and you're set!!
He's very, very easy. Just go to his review and you'll Ace his 3 tests.
First off, Professor Mark is a dedicated teacher and enjoys history. He goes beyond what he is required to do, since he conducts 2hr. review sessions on his personal time, which he doesn't have to. Second, he is a professional teach that makes history easy to learn. Lastly, I enjoyed his overall teaching methods. He is a good guy.
he really gets you interested in what he is teaching because he gets into it and you can tell history is his passion. go to the reviews and youll do good on the tests. its an easy class and hes a good teacher.
I wasn't impressed with this guy. He thinks he's funny, but only the people who were kissing his you know what laughed. I found him to be obnoxious. No wonder he was jobless before being hired here.
All you have to do is make sure you go to class because he does check to see who comes in or not. Also you don't have to buy the book because he covers everything on the review day before exams if you choose to go (highly recommended). Another plus is he doesn't require you to write papers like how other history instructors do.
he is a real smart ass, and is funny but makes you feel like crap for asking a question, and acts like your wasting his time. his tests are OK. he holds reviews, but if your like me and have to work it is kind of hard to go because he doesn't give much notice. he is energetic and not bad. for a history teacher he keeps things alive...still a jerk..
I don't know why everyone raves about him! He is not that easy. I am an A student, and I studied for his tests for hours! He puts like 40+ terms, and you only have to know 6! that is BS. and the essays are tough, bc there is alot of material to know. he lectures all class long, but his lectures are interesting. 1/2 my class failed his 1st exam
Brilliant! Make sure he knows you, as he will favor you! As for his exams, the trick is this: Go to the review...and write down everything he says for the essays and literally study that point for point. That is EXACTLY what he wants on the essay! Not as hard as it seems...I've gotten 2 damn near 100%'s on my first 2 exams by using that technique!
Don't buy the book you'll waste your money. He is a great teacher for history because he is not monotone and he is very passionate in his work which helps others stay interested!
Dr. Walia is the most awesome and hilarious history teacher I have ever had. He makes it easy to pass his class, that is if you are not a lazy ass and actually do take the time to study. He does study sessions, which are totally awesome, GO TO THEM! He practically gives u exactly what he wants in the essays and everything.
you dont need the book. go to his review sessions!! his lectures can make you sleepy but he's a good teacher nonetheless
I took Hist 110B summer session, this was a good class, the professor jokes with the class and lets the class take lots of breaks. The essay assignments were not easy, he has lots of study sessions in his cubicle, just listen to what he repeats over and over and you will do fine. Dr. Mark is a great instructor who works hard for his students.
Dr. Walia is one of the best teachers I have taken so far..and its been four years at csuf. I hated history so I wanted to take it last, but I learned and actually remembered sooo much that its unbelievable. His tests are very easy. I didnt do too well on his first test but after his first test I aced all the others. take him!!!!
This is guy is super-passionate about what he does and is very intelligent. You will have fun and learn something. He gives out of class review sessions that are super helpful for the tests (on his own time). There is no essay in this class due. If you attend class always, take good notes, and attend the review you can get an A without question
GREATEST HISTORY TEACHER EVER! tests are so easy its not even funny. no essay makes this class even more awesome. He makes it so fun to learn about what I used to think was "boring" history. I actually looked foreward to his class every TR at 8:30am and learned a lot!!!!! TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN
Dosent even grade your essay if you dont answer his question in the first sentence, talks about alot tests on a few things but wants a ton of detail. Dont take him he thinks hes changing the world and hes eeryones friend but really he isnt a very good teacher.
BEST TEACHER EVER! I loved Mark's class, he was very clear and made the class not as boring as some history classes can be. A little outrageous with explainations, but that makes the class much more interesting. If you get on his good side its a guarunteed A.
Dr. Walia is the****!!! Don't listen to the bad comments, those people have nothing better to say. But yea, Dr Walia is one of the most awesome professors you will ever have. You learn a lot and he makes class lectures very interesting. If you are ever confused about anything, dont hesitate to ask him, he is very accessible and helpful.
He is an unfair grader. If he knows you get a good grade and if he doesn't your basically screwed... get ready to have pain in your hands from writing so much detail. I think he is gay and his jokes get old.
Professor Walia is a very nice/interesting man, but he grades unfairly. He keeps things fun in class, so his lectures are not boring, but when it comes to the tests he is ridiculously picky. Also, your grade is based on ONLY those three tests, which I did not like because he was such a hard grader. I would go with Dr. Myers for History.
Mark was a good professor to have! he kept class interesting and he's on of the few professors that has a big class that tries to remember your name. NO book required
mark walia, is an amazing, witty...intelligent man. he is extremely passionate about what he does. anyone who takes his class is in for a real treat. I hardly felt i was in class...instead i felt that i was at an improv show....with dave chapelle as my teacher. lol he made history absolutely interesting. very informative. great teacher.
Teaches history based on the movies he's watched. Yohoooo! He has a PHD. You don't learn history in his class. You'll be familiar to his favorite movies thu. Squeezes topics which is good. But prepare to memorize everything he says. Make sure to attend lectures and his review sessions, really helpful for an A. Think about an A not to learn history!
do not take his class!!!
great teacher! soo funny i look forward to his class!
grades those who he likes easier. must memorize every silly insignificant detail. 3 tests make up ur entire grade, and they are essay questions no multiple choice. very strange man, not an easy class
He is a very funny teacher who makes the most boring subjects intresting, the tests are easy if you just show up to class and review sessions(which help alot). He is really good at what he does
AMAZING CLASS-PARTICIPATION AND NOTE TAKING ARE KEY....KINDA GUY YOU CAN DRInK A BEER WITH
Very fun professor...insanely animated. does a very good job of communicating a subject that can be boring to some people. go to class everyday, take lots of notes, and let him know youre there. and oh yeah, do live grading. he goes super easy on you. i would highly reccomend this class
crazy grader. i graduated high school with highest honors, was admitted with distinction to csuf, and have a 3.8 GPA here, and i'm probably getting a C in this class. going to class every day is a must because he tests on details that no one picks up. if you ask a question in class he makes you feel dumb, but says he still likes you. interestingman
HATE this prof! he acts like his class is high school and goes off talking on the weirdest tangents... it can be interesting at times but when it's not, it is completely ridiculous and irrelevant! if you like to suck up to profs, then this is the one for you. study sessions are very helpful.
This class was easy. Just make sure that you go because he gives a lot of notes. He also holds review sessions before every test which are very helpful, but they can be time consuming. Did not care for him as a teacher but he does have a passion for history. If you go to class and take good notes you will not need to buy the book.
Hardest class I've ever taken.I attended every class, attended his reviews, studied for hours but couldn't memorize the massive amounts of material for the "essay only" exam. VERY HARD. I am an A-B student and failed his class. Memorization isn't my thing & that's all this class consists of. He's very knowledgeable and interesting but hard grader
This teacher is very knowledgeable in what he does! It is very easy to get an A in this class if you go to class and pay attention, and also go to the review sessions. He throws out a lot of information but he also tells history like a story and it is very helpful. There are no dates that need to be memorized, just the important facts.
Really good professor, he is really knowledgeable and makes class interesting and funny. If you take good notes and go to class, you don't need the book. I really enjoyed going to class every day and he makes it really easy to comprehend the material, study sessions are a must, they help so much!!
DON'T BUY THE BOOK. He tells you everything you need to know. 3 tests No paper required. He does a great job. He is pretty funny. You have to participate in class, ask questions, talk to him and make sure he know who you are. Be ready to take a lot of notes. so to the reviews. I took the class in intersession and got an A. GREAT CLASS
This guy is a great teacher. I studied a couple hours befor the exam an i earned an A on all. This class is total memorization.Dont Buy The Book, useless unless you want to see all the real maps. Take This Guy for 120a. Really funny.
Dr. Walia is the best teacher at cal state fullerton,I never liked history untill I took a class with him.God Bless Him.
BEST !!!!! He is so interesting that its hard NOT to pay attention to him in class.hes funny.smart. helpful.ATTEND REVIEWS AND THATS WHAT U WILL NEED TO STUDY. NO HW.3 TESTS.Participate in the class and let him get to know you and you will get a GOOD GRADE The only reason i failed his first test is i didnt know we had it so i didnt study.
OMG he is sooo funny and interesting. He does a review for the tests that really help and tell you everything you need to know. It's all memorization which made the tests easy for me. He is one of the best teachers I've ever had!
Great professor, can tell that he loves his job. It is a little hard to follow his lectures because it is 100% oral.Must be a fast writer and good note taker otherwise you will have some problems. The test are essay type. Overall, great professor, I enjoyed his lectures very much.
No textbook, no assignments. Attendance is crucial to take the notes that he solely bases his tests on. Tests are composed of writing about six of twelve identifications and two essays out of four. His lectures are semi-engaging, mainly because Walia puts his own modern spin on it or throws in some profanity. Take it if it's not closed.
It's hard not to pay attention, he is quite the character. Don't take offense to anything he says, he does use some profanity, just to spice things up. In order to get an A/B in this class, attend every class, take notes, and attend review sessions, he gives you the answers. Oh, and make sure he knows who you are (participate, &/or take him food).
I LOVE mark!! Sure he can have a know it all attitude and be obnoxious, but it makes the class way more interesting! Too bad I am a biochem major, otherwise I would choose him for all my classes! He is extremely straight forward, never use the book, does helpful reviews before tests, easy A if you listen and take notes. You won't regret!
Hes soooo funny!
He knows his material. He jokes around in class a lot, but he gets to the point quickly. You can slack off a little bit, but as soon as you're staring off into space for more than five minutes, you're screwed. Pay attention in his class; everything he says will be on the exams and the final.
I totally bombed the first test which killed my chances at an A. It was difficult to understand his expectations at first. Grade is based on 3 tests and attendance. WRITE A LOT on your tests. His is kind of offensive sometimes but very smart. Go to review sessions and take VERY detailed notes. Not too painful for a history course.
Got a B+. Class was interesting but he talks too fast and is at times confusing. This is definitely a class for someone that is good with memmorization as he wants you to reiterate his lectures on your exams.Grade is calculated out of 3 exams, exams consist of IDs and two essays.Hes very egotistic/cant stop talking about himself which gets annoying
Great teacher. Serious about learning, go to class, study, listen, take notes. Tells you what you need to know for exams so it's up to you to do it. Also does review class before exam. Tells you not to buy book...don't need it.
COOLEST TEACHER EVER!! everything is based on his lectures but he keeps it very interesting and funny. i hated history until his class. i actually learned a lot. no homework and book is not required. no papers either. grade was based on 3 tests and a final. take notes and memorize what he says and you're set. GO TO REVIEW SESSIONS!!
DO NOT BE LATE FOR CLASS!!the moment class starts is when he starts lecturing and everything he says is crucial to the tests. NO BOOK USED!! save your money.every single test essay and question is based ONLY on his lectures. take VERY detailed notes and study off it.MEMORIZATION IS KEY! awesome and funny prof. make sure you go to his review session
HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Awesome professor!! Class is very easy. Tests are just based on class lectures (show up every day) and no textbook is needed. Very funny guy, had the class laughing. 3 tests = 3 reviews sessions for each test. Final is just a regular test, not accumulative. Also teaches HIST 110B for those of you who liked HIST 110A with him!!
AMAZING teacher!! I absolutely HATE history. It's so boring but he makes it so interesting and I actually remember things. Be ready to take lots of notes. They are gold when taking your tests. He's funny & interesting :)
Note taking and memorization skills are the key to passing this class. His lectures are interesting and his humor keeps you awake. The only thing that sucks about this class is that your grade is based soley on 4 exams, so if you drop the ball on one, your screwed. I did not miss one class, but I got a C on the first test so I ended up with a B.
Amazing teacher, cracks a lot of jokes and keeps it fun!
Amazing! I finally understand history!
I did not enjoy this class, maybe because I don't like his tangent-like humor. He includes so much information that it is difficult what he wants to know on the tests. The tests consist of blue book "write everything you know" prompts. Study guides are vague... be sure to attend study sessions. Don't buy the book, he doesn't use it. Average.
Really enjoyed Dr. Walia's class, he makes things very easy to understand. You don't need the book, just come to class every day and take good notes. His exams require you to know a lot of information, but he gives you a helpful study guide and holds review sessions. Definitely recommend!
Dr. Walia is a perfect teacher for anyone who dislikes history. He connects everything in life in the present to the history to make understandable, cracks HILARIOUS jokes, never get bored in class. Only had 3 tests, all based on ur MEMORY but no worry, he makes it easy. Definitely recommend. u'll remember something by the end of sem. love him :)
Class was amazing. His lectures were funny and easy to follow. Take plenty of notes for tests. No homework and only like 3 or 4 tests. He gives a very specific study guide so you know exactly what to study, and although you need to know a lot about it but it's no big deal. Take him if you can. Best history teacher I have ever had.
Go to class, take notes, and go to his review sessions and you'll pass! I made a study guide before going to the review sessions and it was also really helpful. His class is interesting, I was never interested in history until I had him. Now I love it. My FAVORITE PROFESSOR I've ever had. It's been over a year and I still remember what I learned.
Funnest class i have taken. Makes history a blast and he likes to crack jokes. I HIGHLY SUGGEST HIM !!! you will love him. take notes and youll do fine on tests. I showed up hungover to his final and still passed the final with a "B". Favorite teacher hands down
you'll either love him or hate him. i loved him! he is so funny. first history class i was ever able to stay awake in and actually enjoy. he makes it easy to remember things. you dont need the book just your notes on his lecture. tests are all essays repeating his lecture. he's hilarious, best histroy teacher ive ever had!!!!
his the best!!!! his sooo funny !! i loved loved loved loved his class had so much fun and understood eeverything!! def. take HIM!
TOOK BOTH HIS 110A+B CLASSES. FUNNY PROFESSOR! DO NOT WALK OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF HIS LECTURE OR YOU WILL BE ON HIS SHIT LIST! HIS WAY OF LECTURING HELPS YOU REMEMBER CONCEPTS. CLASS ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY OR YOU'LL FALL BEHIND. 3 EXAMS. NO BOOK NEEDED. NO ESSAYS. NO HOMEWORK. MAKE SURE TO ATTEND REVIEW SESSIONS. HE'S PASSIONATE ABOUT HIS MATERIAL.
Just a straightforward guy who loves history! He is super easy if you just show up and take notes. Tests are easy too. No homework or papers.
Best history professor I've EVER had. I had no interest in this class, but he makes so much fun and interesting. Tests are pretty easy if you take good notes, study and go to the review session. Definitely take his class; you're missing out if you don't.
The most fun I've ever had in history. Prof. Walia is highly entertaining as he teaches - you WILL NOT be bored. Take notes, no homework, do the study guide (and show up at his study sessions)...you're pretty much guaranteed an A.
took him for both HIST 110 a and b concurrently. it was hard for me because i have NO interest in history. the main parts i was interested in he did the very last bit of class (b, 1960s onward) regardless he was really helpful, funny, and good at explaining. do the notes and study and you WILL pass. don't leave in the middle of class w/o asking.
Best history professor ever. very funny and makes it very enjoyable to learn! go to class because he doesnt use the book. everything straight from lectures! bluebook exams but he has review sessions before exam AND if you memorize the notes u take in class it is a guaranteed A!!! he doesnt believe in essays so NOO ESSAY!! GREAT PROFESSOR
Dr. Walia is an amazing professor. His lectures are interesting and well presented. His class is on schedule and organized. I recommend this teacher to everyone, even those who dislike history. He will definitely keep you entertained and intrigued through his teaching. Attendance is important for his class, but I was always excited for his class.
ehh idk the guy is nice but i think in my opinion this class is hard it prob easy for others but for me i find hist hard. if you like a professor who won't shut up and likes to make jokes then this guy is for you.....although a bit cocky if you ask me. tries to moviate you but i feel it worthless since his test crush your confidence.
NO ESSAYS! NO BOOK! ALL LECTURE! Dr. Walia is a very energetic lecturer and is extremely passionate about teaching; so passionate that he will call you out if you try to sneak out of his lecture. Just show up to class, take THOROUGH notes, go to the REVIEW SESSION, and you'll get an A. Exams are ID and essay based. Be detailed with answers!
Very passionate about what he teaches. Do not leave class without telling him or he will hunt you down. I am currently taking him as a intersession class 2012 and he is definitely not boring.Pay attention in class and take notes on everything he says. Review it and follow the study guide and you will pass :) Gl.
I hate history but I Highly enjoyed and benefited from this class. Take notes, attend class and you will do good, you wont want to miss his lectures anyway. 3 tests w/ id's and an essay, no text book, fair, fun, hilarious and personal.
The GREATEST HISTORY PROFESSOR EVER. All LECTURES, NO book, 3 TESTS in total, NO Homework. Pretty easy guy. He is VERY entertaining. Just don't get on his sh*t list. HIGHLY recomend him. ALWAYS attend class or you'll miss out on the notes.
Best teacher ever, super simple, all he does is gives lectures on the subject. He is a super funny guy an makes history fun! His test are easy all you need to do is study for them an you can easily get an A. My favorite teacher so far. definitely take him
BEST PROF EVER! very simple and funny. Won't bore you at all, made me enjoy history. I always looked forward going to his class! TAKE HIM! :D
Idk where people get the idea that this guy is cool but he is rude since he laughs in your face if you miss class and is harsh test grader if you don't write what he wants. he thinks he funny but no his jokes get old i wouldn't recommend this professor honest. i would recommend smith instead.
Great professor, he's very funny. He makes u interested in History. His writing is legible. Go to the review session that he holds for each exam, u get 1 pt for being there. He tells u what u need to know for the exams. Peeps don't study enough will fail; he's not tough. He does laugh at u, but he means well. Only people who's uptight get offended.
He is an okay professor. A bit overrated. He is more lenient to those who make an effort to get to know him. Attending class is very important to get the details he's looking in exams. He keeps lectures interesting but sometimes he makes remarks to students that are out of line and brushes them off with "I'm just teasing you because I like you".
Class was bittersweet. No homework or reading. Exams were easy but require a ridiculous amount of detail. It doesn't matter if you answered the question right, you have to have things like "whats his favorite color?". Must attend class He calls you out in class and some comments sound rude. Exciting lecture, however, for a history class.
The class is super easy. You only have three tests the entire semester and he gives you a study guide for each one, as well as review sessions before the test. There are no essays, no quizzes, and no homework. The test has a lot of material on it but it's definitely doable. Lectures were great. I loved this class.
Overall, GREAT TEACHER. He makes his lectures very interesting with his enthusiasm and humor. No homework, no quizzes, no essays. Only 3 exams (final is not cumulative). He gives study guides and review sessions before each test. His teachings made it easy to get up and attend his class at 7am. Just go to every class & study!
THE BEST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD!!!! take him!! he is really funny and is really passionate about what he teaches! you will end up wanting to go to class (esp. if it's at 7am). yeah the tests are a bit of a pain because they are all essay and you have to study alot, but he does his best to prepare you. don't buy the book. TAKE HIM!!
I took him for two semesters and what can I say? He is the only History professor that can keep me awake. He is super nice and will help yo if you need anything. No homework, you don't need your book and the only thing you must do is go to class and take TONS of notes. Study hard and it will pay well :)
BEST TEACHER! I have taken him 2 semesters and loved it! No hw and review ?s before each test. He has a review session outside of class before tests where he tells you almost exactly what he wants on the test. Really funny and willing to help you. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK. Must come everyday for the lecture notes(take good ones)
Very cool professor! The class is not hard at all. You must attend class because he writes everything you need to know for the exams on the board. No powerpoints or readings. It is strictly based on what he teaches in class. He has review sessions that are really helpful, plus you get an extra point for going. Only 3 exams, neither are cumulative.
The person below obviously didnt go to class because if you went to every single class and actually studied you would of got the A. This class is so easy! No papers no nothing. Just tests. He offers review sessions before the test and tell you the answers. All you have to do is MEMORIZE. He is very funny and I always looked forward to class.Takehim
All I have to say is go to class! Also study, study, study. The class consist of 3 tests and the final is not cumulative. If you take good notes and do the study guide (as well as study it) you'll do we'll. Oh yeah, there's no homework! He's a funny teacher and very fair guy. Take him! PS go to his review sessions!
Mark is A one of a kind professor, he made attending class fun and interesting. He is a wise man and he knows his stuff. The class is pretty simple, just do your part and he will take care of the rest. Three tests, NO QUIZES, NO HOMEWORK, NO PAPERS, NO NADA! Awesome and funny, easy A. Study the Study Guide for all the three tests.
Walia is an amazing professor. He truly has a passion for history, and puts a lot of effort into his lectures. Go to class, take good notes, attend the review sessions...you will get an A if you do! Also: NO HOMEWORK, NO TEXTBOOK, NO PAPERS :)
This class is very easy if you attend class, take good notes, and study hard! Go to his review session, it will help you a lot! The class is based on 3 exams, no essays, and no hw! He is also very funny and interesting, and he tries to make class entertaining! Take him!
You will get an A or at least a B if you do not miss his lectures. His lectures are mandatory for his exams because he does not use the textbook. Overall the exams are pretty straightforward and easy if you actually listen and pay attention. No hw and no essay!
Old fashioned guy. Take detailed notes, study before the exam, and attend class. You should be fine... Very old fashioned class in the sense that NOTHING is online, there's little to no wiggle room if you can be flaky on attendance. Great prof, easy to understand and easy to talk to. 1 key takeaway: Go to review sesh.
All you really do is write notes. He is a nice guy as long as you go to class you will be fine. Go to his study session he gives you everything that you need to know for the class. Easy A if you study. Only three exams no homework
He is really nice and he keeps you interested in his lectures by using funny anecdotes that are modern. He does't like tricks so he is always clear about everything. His tests are all based on memorization. 3 tests all semester, no quizzes and you don't need the book he tells you everything you need to know.
If you show up to class and take good notes, you should be fine. He provides a study guide and has an extra credit review session before each exam. The tests are usually 6 identifications (he gives you about 15 to choose from) and one essay (2 to choose from). Textbook recommended, but not needed! And no homework!
Very straight forward professor. Tests may be long but not hard. Go to his study sessions, it will help a lot and gives 1 extra credit for attending. No need to buy the book, just take good notes. Overall, pretty easy class and good professor.
Take Walia. He is extremely funny and made History tolerable. He had 3 exams, no homework. The exams are 6 ID's and 1 essay. He gives you options as well. The final was 8 ID's and 2 essays. He holds an extra credit review session for all tests and GIVES you the answers for the test. No reason you can't get an A. Highly recommended!
Wow, I understand that a lot of people may like him, but I found him to be the most annoying professor I've ever had in my life. He calls you out if you don't laugh at his (bad) jokes, and spends a lot of his lecture talking about other things. Exams are all essay based, you don't need the book. Attendance mandatory, he has sign in sheets.
Two exams and a non-cumulative final. Dr. Walia makes a boring subject interesting by lecturing in a story-format. He does talk a little fast so you need to be quick when taking notes. He tolds review sessions before every exam to help you. All exams are essay-format, no M/C. It's not a hard class, but you won't do well if you don't try.
I took him this semester and i have never met a prof that i would dislike. In order to receive a good grade you must write every word he says and spit it back on you essay other wise he mark you down. Wouldn't consider this guy for his teaching method and terrible jokes. He tries too hard for people to laugh at his jokes.
Walia is cool. I literally FAILED the first exam (34%) I went to his office hours and we made a deal that if i get an A on the second exam, he would raise my F to a C. I got 105.5% on the second exam. He rasied my grade! I Aced the final too. Class isn't hard but everything he says in class, write on your exam and youll get an A. Must memorize!
He lectures the whole time so attendance is mandatory. you do not need the book and tests are purely on lectures. grade is based on 3 written tests and he does provide study sessions.
If you attended and take good notes then its a very easy class to pass. his writing as a little hard to read at first since he lectures and writes on the board but with time you will get use to it. 3 exams and gives study guides and holds a review session. class is based on MEMORIZATION! don't need the book.
He an interesting guy, keeps you awake with his lectures. There's no mid-term nor final, the final is basically another test. You don't need book for this class.
He is an amazing professor and is really passionate about teaching! Attendance is mandatory because he doesnt post his lectures online. No homework or essays. 3 Tests (essay style) makes up your grade. get ready to take a lot of notes! try to attend the review session as though are very helpful as he basically covers what he wants in the test.
My favorite professor. No power points, doesn't use the textbook, and still the most interesting class you will take. You only have 3 tests, all essay format, and it's based off his lectures. It's hard missing class, so get to know someone to get the notes. All in all a great professor! Take his class!
He's a really great professor & is always available for office hours. He loves what he teaches and is passionate about it. 3 exams, essay format BLUE BOOK. I failed his first exam(31%), but the last 2 I got a 97% & 98% & he gave me a A-. DONT buy the text. You will never use it. DEFINITELY attend his review sessions HUGE HELP.
Easier history class compared to other classes. No quizzes or papers, only 3 exams (blue book) based on memorization. To get a really good grade on his exams, you will need to attend all his lectures, take very detailed notes, and STUDY. He is hilarious and very passionate about what he teaches. Highly recommended!
I wish he was my teacher for everything!!! He makes history so interesting and is so ridiculously funny, it's impossible not to laugh every class session. Super fair (no essays or quizzes) and easy. Just make sure you study, attend study sessions, and be very detailed with your answers on exams.
His class was pure memorization. You either know it or you don't! Don't ever miss a class because you will definitely miss a lot of material. He lectures from beginning to end non-stop so get ready for taking A LOT of notes. Only thing I didn't appreciate was him picking on people for being quiet or "shy". He is very knowledgeable and helpful.
MEMORIZATION is the key for survival in his class. Lectured from beginning of class to end non-stop so be prepared for a lot of note taking! I did not appreciate him picking on "shy" people. His jokes are NOT funny yet the majority of the class found him funny. Oh and if you don't laugh it is because you lack humor.
took him for 110A & 110 B and passed with an A and B+. I always studied the night before for 2-4 hours and passed his exams. Easy class !!!
Dr. Walia's class is the best way to learn history. He lectures by story telling. He never dissappoints. No home work and Blue Book exams. Memorization will be your best friend. GO TO HIS REVIEW SESSIONS. His reviews are what can give you extra credit sometimes and he knocks off what doesnt need to be on the test.
Super fun and lively, first time i stayed awake for the whole lecture.
Amazing teacher! You must show up to class, be prepared to take A LOT of notes. No books needed, 3 blue book exams, pay attention in class! He's very passionate. He live grades so you know your grade on the spot. Tests consist of short ID and 1 essay. Be descriptive and you're good. Love his class! Go to review session! STUDY after each lecture!
First of all you don't need to buy the book. He is an amazing lecturer and he is clear. Just be ready to take alot of notes. Also he doesn't give out homework and there are only 3 exams.
He's basically what a professor should be. Don't buy the book, you will not need it. I haven't read a single page and I am passing with an A. But you do need to show up to almost every lecture to make sure you take good notes. His exams are easy and make sure you go to the review sessions because those are very helpful.
I found his tests rather difficult, you miss one little detail and your whole test can be ruined. No multiple choice all written answers. Good with lecturing however.
First history class i did not dread going to. Walia is funny and really gets into the lectures. NO PP just writes things on board. MUST GO TO CLASS TO DO WELL. Lectures like it is a story so easy to remember. GO TO REVIEW SESSIONS
If you don't get an A it's because YOU put in no effort. He makes the info easy to understand and learn. I studied the night before each test and got a 99%, 104% and a 105%. It's all memorization and YOU have to put in the effort.
Professor Walia's History 110A class came down to showing up, taking notes, and repeating everything he said when taking his tests. His lectures were entertaining and almost everything he says will be on his tests. The good thing is this class does not require critical thinking, there are no papers, and no projects. Easy to pass, easy to get an A.
Walia is very interesting. He loves what he is doing. He expect his class to give feedback or comment when he ask questions. He never gives trick questions. Go to his review sessions, it will save your live.
He's very clear during his lectures, and makes the class fun. He likes to make jokes and sometimes act out the person who he's talking about. There are only three tests, but he's a tough grader so you pretty much have to memorize every detail he went over in order to get a decent grade on your test.
UGH. I CANNOT PUT TO WORDS HOW MUCH I LOVE THIS PROFESSOR. LITERALLY THE BEST PROF OUT THERE. IF YOU CAN, DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND TAKE HIS CLASSES. HE'S FUNNY AND LAYS OUT WHAT YOU NEED TO DO TO PASS HIS CLASS. HE HOLDS REVIEW SESSIONS FOR EXAMS & YOU SHOULD GO IF YOU CAN. ALSO, DON'T BUY THE BOOK BECAUSE YOU WILL NEVER OPEN IT.
Best history professor ever !! Attend classes and review sessions and you be totally fine.
I hated history because my memory is terrible when it comes to dates. Lucky for me this professor doesn't test on dates. His lectures are super interesting (no useless fluff and he makes it funny) and he only tests you on what he teaches you. His review sessions cover everything you need. No outside reading!!!!!
BEST PROFESSOR I'VE HAD!!!! NO HW, NO BOOK! Just memorize his lectures for his tests and you'll be fine. Got an A on all his tests. Best of all, his lectures are entertaining and he's funny!
HE IS MY FAVORITE PROFESSOR! He makes history entertaining and he's really funny. I strongly recommend him! I plan on taking him for History 110B as well! No homework or book. Just attend all the lectures and memorize them. He is a very good teacher.
Great lectures, hard tests. Just have to study really well to pass!
Very good lecturer, probably the best. Very funny. tests are difficult. Very essential to go to study sessions.
Loved this class! He is a great lecturer and makes learning fun. He is a funny guy and always has jokes, even first thing in the morning. He never gives homework or assigns essays. MAKE SURE YOU GO TO HIS STUDY SESSIONS BEFORE THE TEST. They are extremely helpful and you'll pass no problem if you go to class every week and attend the review session
Professor Walia is probably one of the best professors I've ever had. He makes history really fun. His class consists of 2 tests and a final. Tests are really easy as long as you study his lectures. There is no homework and no text book. He is REALLY funny and very interesting. However, if you don't like studying this isn't the class for you.
Probably one of the best professors I've ever had. No homework, no textbook, no essays, no projects, great lectures, easy tests (as long as you study), very interesting and really funny. Everything he lectures on is always on the test. The only thing you'll need for this class is to study a lot. If you don't study you won't pass. TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
Professor was amazing. He's chill and there were only 3 exams but its all based on his lectures and i would suggest going to his study sessions. They help you review the material and help you on the test.
Second term with him- One of the best professors I've ever had at CSUF. Go to his review sessions and go to class and study your notes- only way not to pass is if you don't go to class and don't take notes. No textbook. No papers. No projects. Just what he says in lecture and 3 exams not cumulative. Gives you all the answers at review sessions.
Best teacher of all
Easy class, attendance is written down on a piece of paper every class period. Spends the whole class period lecturing, but he's funny so he keeps you interested. Take good notes because he doesn't have powerpoints, but if you pay attention it's not hard to get an A. Grade consists of 2 tests and a final. I didn't use the textbook once and got an A
Absolutely great prof. Three midterms and a final, no homework, no book. Before every test he does a "review" session where he goes over most of the test. His tests consists of identifying big historical figures and writing a short essay on a choice of three options (can be bulleted). Super funny guy from Detroit who loves to make people laugh.
Great Professor. Highly Recommend if you enjoy lecture with some comedy. He makes a clear lecture and gives good life lessons.
Professor Walia is an outstanding history professor! He teaches the class as if he is reading you a story, with a booming voice and enthusiasm. Going to the lecture is crucial to pass with an A. Recommend finding a study buddy. His review sessions help TREMENDOUSLY when studying for the exams. You will leave this class LOVING history!
His lectures are clear, but he seems insecure. He thinks he's hilarious but he's pretty offensive and childish most of the time. The review sessions are "optional" but it seems as if they are pivotal to receiving a good grade on tests. Some students have to work or have other classes during scheduled sessions, so it seems a tad unfair.
After I failed one of my exams I went to his office hours and he told me how to improve and he had genuine interest in making sure that I passed and understood the class. He mapped out what to do for the rest of the semester and I went from a fail to a B+ on the next exam! Very funny and gives awesome review sessions.
Tests are all based on his lectures, if you take notes in class and make flashcards and memorize, you'll be fine! I have never liked a history class but he made me love this class! he makes his lectures sound like fun stories that you wanna hear. take this class and you wont regret it!
his lectures are like stories, he even ends class with cliff hangers sometimes. really funny guy. even if you don't like history you will like this class. two midterms and a final. memorize ID's in bullet point form and try to create a timeline for the essays. makes it easier to remember info. no book or homework . review sessions help a lot.
The class is all lecture, but Walia keeps it interesting. He has a great sense of humor and the lecture notes have everything you need for the exams. Your grade is purely based on the exams, but if you attend class and the review session you should pass with a solid grade.
So his class is participation and 3 exams. You get points for showing up and you get points for the exams, that is it. He doesn't use titanium and he does all his lecture manually on the board. I got an F on my first exam because I didn't know how to prep. Second exam I got a 106%. To get an A go to class, take good notes, and go to review session.
awesome teacher. tests are very tough if you don't study. they are pure memorization. willing to help. tells funny jokes in his lectures. go to the review sessions because they help tremendously. would take his class again.
Took 110A at 7am. Was regretting this until I met this professor. Very outgoing and funny. Loves history. No powerpoints, nothing online, only in class lectures and notes. Take very good notes and go to his review sessions. Overall great professor and want to take him again.
I took Walia for 110A and 110B. He is truly an amazing teacher and hilarious. YOU WILL NOT PASS IF YOU DON'T SHOW UP. No book, no essays, no homework. You only have 3 blue book tests and he gives a complete study guide to set you up for success. Tested on key words and themes. EVERYTHING is pulled from his lectures so TAKE GOOD NOTES.
Dr. Walia is a real character. As for his teaching, his lectures make history SO exciting. Class with Walia is story time! BUT you must go to class. If you dont, you wont pass. His tests are easy if you study. Gives about 40 terms to study, test has 8, you pick 6. Also, gives 3 essay topics, picks 2, you pick 1. Also holds review sessions! TAKE HIM
Took this class at 7am which was very difficult for most since they would rather sleep in. You must take good lecture notes because he doesn't use titanium. 3 blue book exams. You have to attend review sessions which are the key to passing the tests! Dr Walia cares so much about his students and their success. Go to Reviews and study!
Definitely kept me awake during a 7 am. He's really funny & always in a good mood. You HAVE to take notes during his lecture or you won't pass! No project, no homework, no quizzes or book. A LOT of studying & memorizing for his 3 tests. I thought they were really hard because he wants you to memorize every detail.
20% of grade is participation (just show up to class), rest is 3 blue book exams. You will need to study for several hours to get an A in the class since he wants every little detail. he's funny and a good professor. I got an A but it wasn't a breeze to get it. I went to the review sessions and I wrote down absolutely everything he said.
Professor Walia is the best! Easy A. No HW. Grade is based on attendence, and you must show up to class, the 3 exams (bluebook) are entirely based on lecture. Easy exams, and even offers review sessions. Easiest History class I've ever taken.
Fun and entertaining professor! He has very helpful review sessions before each test that help A LOT. There are 3 tests with identification questions and one essay question of your choice, no cumulative final
He's an interesting professor, has a different sense of humor but he is entertaining. He has three exams consisting of one essay and six basically short answer questions. He holds review sessions which are EXTREMELY helpful, I suggest going to every one before the test. As long as you take good notes (write everything down) you will pass his class
Worst professor I have EVER taken! He takes his lectures to another level, as in he will start laughing and playing out scenarios by pretending to kill ppl. He doesn't hold review sessions in class you have to come during the night to the review. He gives you a review sheet with about 50 terms and only 10 of them are on the exam. Don't take him!
Really happy I chose him. He has 3 essay based test, and as long as you study the review sheet you'll pass. He also live-grades in front of you if you chose. Super funny guy, even at 8:30 am.
A funny teacher who doesn't have a normal style of lecturing. He adds a very interesting kick to it that makes his classes fun to show up to. I would recommend showing up to all his classes though or at least having all the notes because every detail of his notes will be on the exam most likely.
Professor Walia gives long lectures, but he keeps it entertaining as much as he can. It's easy to take notes because he is clear on what he says. There are 3 exams. All of them are hand-written, so no multiple choice. Go to his review sessions because he tells you exactly what's on the test. I didn't use the book, so it's not necessary to buy it.
Probably my favorite professor of this semester. His jokes are entertaining and you don't need the textbook ever because his lectures cover everything. DON'T SKIP CLASS. His study guide is very helpful. The review sessions before the exams help by taking off things from the study guide that won't be on the exam. Office hours are helpful too.
Literally the best professor I've ever had. As long as you show up to class, take thorough notes and study those notes, you will pass the class and most likely with an A as well. I had him for a 7 am class and I looked forward to it each morning! No book necessary; he inspired me to add history as a second major!
Based on 2 midterms, a final, & your attendance. Exams require a blue book. You are given a study guide w key terms & themes, & he will select several of the key terms & themes to be on the exam. You are then able choose most of the key terms and one of the themes given to write about. WRITE EVERY DETAIL. He's hilarious- kept me awake at 7am.
Seriously come to class, you will miss alot! The very first he tells everyone you really do not need a book and you really don't. Just take good notes and there's your A+
By far the best history professor at CSUF. I took Walia for History 110A and B. His lectures are amazing. Took both courses at 7am and Walia still managed to keep me entertained and awake. I would definitely recommend him to everyone who is looking to fulfill their GE requirements. Study, go to class, take good notes, you'll get an A.
Best history professor you could take. Lectures are long but you should go to class because you'll miss essential information that will be on the exam. Keeps you entertained and awake at 7 in the morning!! Tests are all short ID's and essays, but it should be easy as long as you take good notes. I would take him again for History 110B!!
If you have the chance to take Walia, TAKE HIM!! He is an amazing professor if you don't like history. He keeps his lectures very interesting and engaging, and cares about his students success. For every test he has review sessions which are really helpful and he will tell you exactly what to study. All you need to do is come to class is take notes
2 midterms & final. He holds review sessions before each exam for extra credit & are super helpful. WRITE DOWN EVERYTHING FOR THE MOST POINTS
He is super easy. Don't need a book. He has three exams and it is pretty much memorization. Does live grading so you find out your grade right away. You just have to attend class and get the notes and definitely attend his study sessions and you'll pass.
Would take again for 110B. There are only 3 exams (2 midterms & a final) He holds review sessions the class day before the exam which is a great little reminder of what the lectures were about if you do not study a lot. The 2 midterms consist of identifying about 6 ID's (people and or places) & an essay. The final is about 10 ID's and 2 essays.
Great professor! Amazing lectures. Review sessions before the exam so you will be super prepared for the exam. All exams are essays, but don't be scared, if you go to class and the reviews you will do great
Awesome teacher! Very funny, bright, and enthusiastic. His lectures are like stories and are easy to follow. His review sessions are so helpful. Show up to class with two ears open and you should be able to pass. Go to the review session and study hard and you can easily get an A
He is one of the best professors I've had! If you get the chance to be in one of his classes consider yourself lucky! Basically how his class works is your grade is based on 3 exams, which you use a blue book for. The exams can be either difficult or easy its up to you to decide, put the time to go to class & take good notes & study youll do great
I took his HIST110A class in spring and he was one of the best professors I've ever had. Such a funny guy with lessons that make you want to show up to class. Your grade is 3 exams which they are just studying your notes because you have ID's (filling in info about a person) and an essay section. I wish he had a 110B class this fall but sadly not.
THE BEST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE. I mean it when I say he is absolutely hilarious, i seriously have not laughed so hard in a class, let alone a history class. He presents the material in such a way that you enjoy coming to class every day. I wish I could take him for every class!
He tells you exactly what you need to study for the test, you just have to put in the effort. His lectures are extremely entertaining and he tells it like a story. By far one of the best professors I've had.
Super easy class as long as you take detail notes! Exam is based off of notes he gives if you use information from the book it is used as outside information. Just stick to the notes he gives you in lectures, study it and youll pass
What a guy! I went into his 110A class not knowing who he was or checking his rating, and what a pleasant surprise. He is honestly one of the best history professors at CSUF. He makes learning the material very fun and interesting. 2 midterms and 1 final; that's it, no reading or quizes. Try not to miss any classes and attend the review sessions!!
I loved professor Walia. He really enjoys teaching, and is hilarious. Show up to class, take good notes and youll pass. Notes are easy to take because he like to write everything down on the white board. He has test reviews outside of regular class time, i recommend you go, they really do help and you get points for attending.
Dr. Walia is one of the greatest professors I've ever had. Although I was successful in class from the beginning I know he does his best to help everyone pass the class. Do not buy the textbook, do go to class and the review sessions. Just memorize word for word what he asks and write it on the test and you'll do fine. He is also super funny.
He's a great professor and as long as you take notes and study the notes you will pass. Make sure you are going to the review sessions and talking to him as well. There are 2 midterms and 1 Final which has two essays. It's easy if you try and study.
Exams are all blue book which seems scary at first but his teaching style & review sessions (that you can earn points for attending) make it easy to retain material since all his lectures are told in stories. Pay attention & take notes, he can go pretty fast. Straight to the point and hilarious. Lectures will never make you want to skip class.
Professor Mark is probably one of the chillest and easiest teachers out there. His class consists of 3 tests and attendance. His tests are all based on memorization so your grade depends on the amount of effort you put into memorizing the terms. He also does "live grading" for tests which basically means you get your grade right there and then.
Probably 1 of the best professors ive had so far! I hate history and i cant handle sitting through history lectures but i really enjoyed his class. Hes funny and very nice. I felt like the lectures flowed like stories, at least thats how i viewed it and was able to memorize all the information. But overall, chill class. Just take good notes
The most amazing professor I have ever had at CSUF! Lectures are incredibly funny and interesting, exams are based on all of the lectures so make sure you pay attention and take good notes! Professor Walia truly cares about this students learning, and he is overall an incredible person! TAKE HIM!!!!!!!! Don't spend money on the book, not necessary!
His class is a fun class. I took his 7am and its probably the only 7am worth going too. He makes good jokes and tries to have fun. His class is just three test and participation. All you need to do is memorize and you will pass. Try to show a on time because you miss a lot. Don't buy the book. Also go to his review and office hours he will help you
The best professor I've had so far. I took both HIS110 A and HIS110B with him. He is entertaining and funny. There are three exams in total. Go to every class and takes notes and you'll pass. I recommend 100%.
I took his 7AM class, it wasn't as bad as I had expected. He is a very funny man and loves to crack jokes to liven the environment. Tests are written, but not too bad. Highly recommend going to class, because you need the notes to do well. If you study from your notes and study guide, you'll get an A.
If you miss a class, you won't pass unless you get notes from Quizlet or from your friends. I had 7am class but I couldn't miss a single class because I would fail if I did. If you want to be a historian, take this class. HIST110A is supposed to be GE but his lectures and tests are so heavy that makes it look like one of the upper division classes.
He does all lectures in class with no posting so must show up to get the notes. The class has three exams (blue book) not too hard as long as you study, go to review session, and do the study guide. The actual lectures can seem to drag but he tries to be funny. (Sometimes it helps). It's an ok class.
He's an easy professor. You must attend class b/c tests are based on what he says. The tests are just identifying a person, building, or event and giving details about them. 5 points for each ID and there will be long answers which are the themed question. Has review sessions so he basically tells you the answers. Just study and you'll get an A
I took his 7am HIST110A class, Im definitely not a morning person but Professor Walia made it so much more bearable especially with it being a history class. His lectures are so full of life and hes always in a good mood. He has 3 tests that make up your grade. As long as you pay attention to his lectures youll be fine.
Make sure you attend class because everything that will be on the test is during his lecture. Make sure you study for his tests and go to his study sessions! He basically gives you the answers during his study sessions. He's very funny and although I took his 7 am class, he kept me awake because of how interested I was during his lecture.
He does not use powerpoints or any type of technology. So, you don't know your grade until the last day of the semester. NO homework, just an exam, midterm and final. His exams are based on vocab and an essay. His lectures are a bit fast, you have to take great notes, and review them! He does attendance every day, DONT MISS CLASS,you need the notes
Professor Walia is a very funny person. However, you need to copy whatever he wrote AND SAID to study for the exams. You don't need textbook, just study your notes. If you miss one class, it's like missing 5 IDs that will show up on the exam; which is 6 short answers and 1 essay. He gives study guide that is basically the test so very nice!
Great professor! I never did well in history or was interested in it but Professor Walia made the lectures very interesting and likable! no text book is needed but you should attend class everyday because the information he discusses and writes on the board is very important and will help out for the test. Very helpful to go to his review sessions!
Professor Walia is a solid choice. He makes his lectures interesting and engaging. With that being said, it is VERY lecture heavy. I don't recommend taking this class if you aren't willing to actually show up, because if you don't, it will reflect on your grade. As for the exams, they are purely based on knowledge, be ready to memorize and write.
Make sure you attend class and take good notes! I took him for 110 A and 110 B. Always go to his study sessions because he'll tell you what to study for the exam and it's extra credit. Get to his study sessions like 30 min early because it can get so packed where students sit on the floor inside and outside the classroom with the door open.
Very enthusiastic and funny! Did poorly on the first exam but improved a lot after understanding what was expected and decided to take him for 110B too. A lot of cramming involved so attend the review sessions to minimize what you need to know for the exams.
BEST PROFESSOR. As long as you go to every class and take good notes you will pass. Study everything he writes. Tests are fairly easy if you study, have to be good at memorization. He is so funny and makes subject interesting.
Professor Walia is an exceptional lecturer. He makes his lectures so modern and fun you will really enjoy his class. He live grades, so you know your score following the test. He also gives a study guide with the general topics of the exam. However take note of everything he says, I recommend typing them because he talks fast. One of the best.
He is extremely lecture heavy and you will NOT pass his class without going to class every day. He writes phrases on the board and you have to take notes and listen at the same time really quickly because he talks fast. I also find that he make inappropriate jokes sometimes; he has joked about suicide which I found unprofessional and inconsiderate.
My favorite history teacher EVER! Mark Walia made my least favorite subject likable. He is absolutely hilarious and actually cares about your grade unlike most professors. I wish I could take him again.
Professor Walia is one of the funniest professors at Cal State Fullerton. You will not regret taking this class. I am really bad at history, but I learned so much with him. You can tell he is very passionate about teaching. You only have 3 tests in this course. If you are good at memorizing & not taking then this is an easy A for you.
Walia made a 7am actually enjoyable. Show up to class because attendance is taken! Lectures are entertaining, but is all done verbally/ on the white board. So if you miss class make sure to get notes from someone. Show up to the review sessions for the tests bc they are extra credit and he gives you the info you need for the test. Also STUDY!!!
He is absolutely one the of the best professors I have had. Everything on his exams are from his lectures. He is very clear. Make sure you take notes and go to class everyday. His review sessions before exams are extremely helpful.
Professor Walia is the best History teacher I ever had for college. He doesn't use PowerPoints, everything you need to know comes from his own words. He writes his lectures on the board and makes the class simple for us. He is very funny and friendly. If he teases you it only means he likes you. He also gives extra credit for his 3 exams & 1 final.
Really Funny Professor. Pretty easy going, and you dont need a textbook as long as you show up to class.
Really funny professor. Hes pretty easy going, and you wont need a textbook as long as you show up to class.
Prof Walia is very funny and entertaining. Don't skip class!! He doesn't use power points so you have to write your own notes as he speaks. If you want to do well on the exams (essay exams) you must attend his review sessions! They're super helpful!
Professor Walia is amazing. He is really passionate about what he teaches and his lectures keeps students engaged. A lot of note taking but he is clear on what is important because he writes them on the board.
This proffesor had very interesting classes. He gets to the point. Lots of information to remember, but he does reviews which will tell you what will be on the exams and what will not. You will also get extra credit if you attend. Grades really fast and well. Can be funny, will call you out if you are being rude. I liked him a lot.
Professor Walia is the first to ever make me like history. Before I could never understand it and feel like I grasped the concepts but he makes everything into such interesting stories, it leaves you wanting to learn more! Hes hilarious and he keeps it real, he doesnt test you on what he doesnt teach and gives a clear study guide and review sesh
Best history professor! You need to memorize a decent about of the material, but its honestly not that bad. Exams are not cumulative. Attend his reviews sessions, he tells you what wont be on the exam. TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN!!!
Go to class and take good notes. He doesnt use powerpoints but he does provide a reivew session. Tests are all essay based.
Hilarious and super nice professor. Sometimes his jokes can be a bit too much, but he really knows how to make the class lively. Go to his study sessions and office hours, b/c they really help! Come to all his lectures, b/c he does NOT put any of his lectures on Titanium. 3 Easy tests; memorize information. NO textbook needed and no assignments.
Grades you based on 3 essay based exams. Could be funny, sometimes over the top. Wants people to participate and ask questions, but complains about the 2 minutes he wasted answering. Has outlines and goes over each topic in the lectures. Review for exams are helpful, gives all info he wants and needed for exams, but still deducts points. Easy tho.
Easy class, but if you dont show up to lectures you wont pass. Take detailed notes & pay attention to him as hes speaking. Thats really all he asks of you. No homework or quizzes, grade is based on 3 written exams. Hes super friendly, funny and likes people to participate. Sends you outlines for notes but doesnt post anything online.
All I got to say is his exams are papers to see if you attend lecture. Easy class, but you just have to be detailed during exams. And he always has a study review before to make sure you write everything he wants. if you get less then a B then you just don't listen.
Super chill professor. Make sure you attend every single lecture because you will fall behind quickly. He posts outlines for lectures that are easy to follow. Gives out study guides and also does a review session before every exam in which he literally gives out the answers. Overall, easy class to pass.
History180 Walia took over my professor's class I was supposed to have a different professor, not him. If you don't like History it may be hard, lectures are very heavy he talks a lot. His grading consists of 3 exam essays that need to be good or else you won't be happy with your grade. No HW. He will take away your Sat. & Sun. off for exam review.
Great guy and made history interesting and upbeat. You NEED to go to class and pay attention and participate, it helps you in the long run. 3 exams total, the final was longer, but along the same lines and he gives study guide and review session for all that help. Listen to lectures and do the study guide, you'll be okay. I would take him again.
Beware that this class is solely based on three essays which he is always really late on grading, and it is all information that is contained in his lectures. As for his lectures, he spends a lot of time making unnecessary jokes and speaking about his personal life.
Professor Walia for US History is a 10/10. If you like US history your gonna do well. No Homework, only exams but the exams are not that bad. I would look forward to his class, one of the better ones I had.
I've taken 2 history classes at CSUF, and they have both been amazing. Dr. Walia tells US history as a story, so it's not boring. He speaks and writes a lot, however he makes sure you know what you need to do for the exam. He does exam reviews where he tells you what is going to be on the exam. 2 exams, with a final. 6-8 ID's and 1-2 essays. Ez A.
Mr. Walia's online class was a fun and interesting one. I enjoyed listening to him speak about the history and I will be taking him again in the fall semester. There were three exams w/ some extra credit IDs and no homework.
I had Mr. Walia's three-hour online course and it honestly wasn't as bad as I thought. I enjoyed listening to him lecture about history and he was funny too.
talks really fast during his lectures so he covers a lot of material each class! but no textbook at all, all his tests are based on what he says in the lectures. if you miss class, just be sure to attend the review session he holds before each test (doesn't give you much time to study though).
Extremely hard grader. Class only consists of 2 exams and 1 final all semester long.
He gives two exams and one final. His tests are based off what he says during his lectures. Make sure to take notes on what he says during his lectures. As long as you study and attend class you should be fine.
Professor was great I do recommend spending lots of time studying since he is a VERY harsh grader.
someone, please laugh at his jokes (he's a very sarcastic person and favorites student who do LOL). the pacing in the class is insanely quick. i recommend attending every study session and student AT LEAST a week before the exam. there is an option to get live graded and takes less than 2 minutes grading each paper so make sure you know max info
One of a kind Professor! Very strong personality. He likes to find humor in everything. His lectures are full of detail. Gives no HW but in return he asks that you study your notes every day. DONT skip class, or you'll miss out on a ton of detail. His impressions are also quite good. Also do his live grading so you'll know your score at the end.
One of the best professors I've taken at CSUF, he lectures the entire time but they are very entertaining and interesting. If you love history you should take him. No homework, few midterms, 1 final, easy A if you take notes and study before each test.
Mark Walia is one of the best professors I've had at CSUF. Class is super simple. He lectures every class but they are very interesting and he makes it fun. I recommend you take this class it is very enjoyable and an easy GE. Few midterms, 1 test, and an easy A. No homework or textbook, truly amazing!
COOL Professor! Lectures are full of detail, so I recommend typing your notes on the outlines he provides. You must study to pass the class. Gives no HW. Attend his review sessions, they really help. Take him, his over personality is really funny. TAKE HIM. Attend his live grading. Also, he continuously talks about Margaritas. Dope Professor!
Very fast paced, & attendance is necessary to pass. Attend his review sessions too, & I recommend recording it to listen to it repeatedly. Only 3 exams and each are entirely based on those review sessions. I didn't attend the first one and got a 60%, then I attended and relistened to the other 2 and got 104.5%. You'll understand what he wants too.
The only assignments we had were 3 essay exams. You REALLY have to show up to lectures in order to pass. Take lots of notes. Overall wonderful professor.
Passionate about what he teaches, but he seems like he's reciting historical war movies sometimes. Engaging most of the time. Unfortunately, I had him online for 2021, and his grading was shockingly harsh then. I was shocked and disappointed how he graded papers so randomly. He doesn't have a rubric, so he reads and guesses grades.
The professor makes the class fun. He will keep you entertained and engaged. His tests are difficult however he does provide the necessary information to score well. Studying throughout the semester is essential. He always provides every event with much detail.
The Professor provides all of his content with much detail so it is important to be present and attempt to not miss any day. Exams are very easily structured however being able to describe event with great amounts of detail is essential.
Study the content. Dont miss any days. Lots of information that can be on thye tests. Test are all about detail.
Mark Walia is a funny professor. His lecture is old school but in a good way cuz he goes at a perfect pace. The exam looks hard but once u get use to the class it's doable. Take good notes and study the note for 20-30 minutes 2 weeks before the exam. Also it's better to take the class during the noon since you have more time to study.
He's a fairly funny guy. One thing though, if you do not write down every single thing about this class that comes out of his mouth, you will not pass. There are 3 tests, sometimes he'll give opportunity for extra credit, but the tests are all written response. I will say there's too many things to study, but he makes class kinda fun.
Walia is a hilarious & very respectable man. His class is straight-forward, you know what to expect (a lecture each day). He offers a review session before each exam, I urge you to attend them, your grade is based solely on the 3 exams. There won't be any assignments, so you MUST attend his lectures to know what is up. No need to buy textbook.
First of all, there were no assignments, just three exams. He tried to make jokes and got frustrated when they didn't land. He also got snippy when people asked questions for clarification. Also, he claimed Native Americans could not get lung cancer because they smoke so much not once but twice. Overall, the class wasn't hard but not enjoyable.
Professor Walia made his lectures so interesting every time. He was the most engaging professor I have ever had. However, you must pay attention in his class. His class only consists of 2 exams and 1 final. They are easy as long as you take notes, study, and show up. He is hilarious which helped and often made the material easy to understand.
Super great professor! He is high energy so his lectures are always super fun! I did not have to buy any books for this course, also no homework just exams. He provides extra credit opportunities as well review sessions for each exam. 100% recommend!!
Professor Walia has been my favorite professor ever taken at CSUF so far. Funny guy, energetic, and passionate about what he teaches. His lectures are very enjoyable. Be prepared to take a lot of notes as his exams are written exams and your grade is based ONLY on the exams. No homework.
Your grade is SOLELY based off of 3 exams. Very lecture heavy. There are no Powerpoints but you're given outlines. Be ready to take notes the entire class. He's very passionate about what he teaches and makes class enjoyable. Attending the review sessions before each exam is key. Exam grades are posted on a spreadsheet not canvas. Goodluck!
Walia is lively and will interact with students. He writes lectures on the board but can be messy so keep up. Write everything he writes since anything can be on his tests. You can decide if you want him to grade your test right after taking it and he will be very thorough with his comments. Careful sitting in the front since he spits quite a bit.
Professor Walia was one of my favorite professors during my freshman year at Fullerton. He is super nice and funny and makes the lectures interesting by incorporating stories of his own/making jokes about the subject. As long as you go to the lectures, take notes, and study them before exams you will do great. Overall really liked the class.
Professor Walia was such a fantastic history professor. His lectures are always super entertaining and very easy to follow. The test is pretty simple. As long as you study, DON'T PROCRASTINATE. His tests are lengthy and the only thing you are graded on, so make sure you put in the work. He also offers extra credit.
Dr. Walia is a passionate professor who cares for his students. The grade is soley based on three exams, all written with extreme detail from lectures. Attend every lecture as detail is everything in this course. I thoroughly enjoyed him as a person, but will admit his class is lots of work and studying for a GE. Take him but know it takes work!
Grades consist of 3 exams. He expects you to write down a lot of things to get full points. He got mad at a student for trying to leave class early when his back was turn and got into a rant about how disrespectful it was. Usually professor don't care and let you leave anytime.
Attendance not taken but if you don't show up you miss a good chunk of notes. Be prepared to memorized information down to the small details. Test are basically how much information you know about the topic. I wouldn't take as my memorization is the worse.
hard grader, the grade is based on 3 exams, must take lots of notes, funny guy and nice... just harsh at grading. Do not recommend if you are not good at history and memorizing. Exams are essay based.
worst professor! He doesnt care about his students, is crazy and so hard to learn from. DO NOT TAKE
NO NO NO ITS SO HARD I AM STUDYING FOR THE FINAL AND JUST NO. 3 EXAMS ONLY FOR YOUR GRADES TOUGH GRADER. UNLESS YOU LIKE TO MAKE YOURSELF GO CRAZY DONT TAKE THIS CLASS FROM HIM. HE'S NOT A HORRIBLE PROFESSOR BUT HIS FORMAT IS THE WORST EVER. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND FIND A DIFFERENT CLASS.
Very funny professor. Feels like your going to a comedy show. No homework and is only graded by the exams. Take notes and try not to miss class so you don't miss the info. Very managable and try to study like 20 minutes a day when it's 3 weeks before the exam. Also try to get him in the afternoon so you have more time to prepare.
I really enjoyed this professor. He is really funny and makes class enjoyable. However make sure to attend his class because its super note heavy and there is only 3 exams meaning that there is no homework or quizzes not even project so attend class every day and attendance isn't required. Also the exams aren't as bad if you actually study.
If you are a history major, this is just the professor for you. He is amazing at lecturing (with a hint of humor), providing a thorough version of American history, while also going through details that your high school history teacher skipped over. The only thing you need to do to succeed is to be able to study and take good, detailed notes.
Professor Walia is funny. It is lecture heavy so make sure you attend class and take good detailed notes as you need a lot of detail on exams. There is a lot of information to memorize. There is only 3 exams. The last exam is the final. There is no homework, but that means you have to do good on the exams because you are only graded on the exams.
hes a funny guy but very tough on grading. theres never any homework so you have to rely on doing well on the 3 exams which is all essay based questions. he uses a white board to write down notes and its hard to read because his handwriting is absolute garbage. if you don't copy down everything he says/writes you will fail.
Professor Walia brings an engaging teaching style, but the heavy emphasis on lecture notes and exams makes the class workload significant. unstuckstudy ai and other study tools helped me stay on top of the material.
The best teacher in university
Hands down, one of the top professors you can take for this class. He is hilarious and makes lectures interesting. I had one of his night classes, and he still had a lot of energy, which kept me awake the entire time. There were 3 essays, and that's all your grade counted on. Listen, take many notes, and write a LOT during midterms!
Professor Walia is incredibly difficult. He says many questionable things that can be uncomfortable, and is very quick to get an almost aggressive tone with students that is often unwarranted. There was only 3 exams that our grade was based off of, and they were incredibly difficult. I would advise against taking him!
Actually the worst professor to take an async class with. Grades hard for no reason and this is coming from a person that passed. L teacher
Success in the class is reliant on attending the lectures, and LOTS of writing. Very unclear and ambiguous grading criteria, with lots of material to memorize. Professor is funny, witty, and open to helping students. Although, this shouldn't take away the fact he would tell people in class to "stop showing up" because people were failing exams.
He's a very social professor. He likes to joke here and there. There is no homework and only three exams. The exams aren't multiple choice but instead written exams.
Honestly everybody complaining about him just doesn't take the time to listen and study. That's all the class is. If you go to class, and write down exactly what he says and study it before exams, you will do great. He offers extra credit, there's no homework, and he doesn't require any textbooks either. It's really not that hard lol.
WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE HAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! he is not really helpful at office hours and is not very flexible with students. Also you do not need that book.
This class is up to the effort you put in. The class is very note heavy and you have to learn how to keep up and take good notes. This class has no class work at all it is all up to how you do on the tests. The tests are straight forward the essays have to be detailed heavy.
don't listen to the other reviews this guy made me hate history all exams are written and his grading is confusing no homework but 3 exams I believe all written
He's not that bad of a professor even though I failed. His lectures are very HEAVY. It's important to attend these lectures if people aren't willing to share notes. There is no hw, but 3 written essay exams. Harsh grader and will fail if you don't study enough. He cares about detail in these exams, a lot of memorization. Exams are very heavy too.
he is a very nice guy but all exams are essays. you really need to understand what he teaches, it does not matter if you know the answer it has to be how. why did you get this answer. if that makes sense. there is no homework at all. JUST STRAIGHT UP EXAMS. this class is straight up you either understand or don't.
Professor Dr. Walia is old-school. He writes everything on the board. Attendance is not mandatory, however, if you want to pass you must attend each lecture. Make sure to take notes. Exams are all essay questions. Study Guide will be your best friend. Office hours are great but not very helpful. Dr. Walia makes learning very interesting and fun.
Grades are only based on 3 essay exams, and the exams include LOTS of writing. You actually have to study hard and understand all the information in order to get a good grade. His lectures can get boring, but his jokes make it funny. You might have to take notes fast since he doesn't go based on PowerPoint, but just be prepared.
Amazing professor, you will learn everything you need for tests just by attending lectures and taking detailed notes. Doesn't teach off a book or videos (unless an online lecture) so there is no need to purchase a textbook. Preparation and assessment results vary on how much effort you put into notetaking and memorization. Work hard, do well!
Honestly, if you can find a class with a different professor that meets twice a week or if he has one now that meets twice a week take it. I feel as if the main issue for me with this class was that it is so much information to take in and write in 3 hours of lecture. Granted he does try to make the lectures relevant. (Test are hit or miss only 3)
Animation major but this was my favorite class! Lectures were entertaining and moved quickly, he wrote key info and illustrated geography (for story purposes only) on the board. Releases early & sometimes sends video lectures. No hw, just study well for the tests- 3 total (free response all-you-can-write). Understanding guy, he wants you to pass!
Class overall is lecture based, but has no homework or extra assignments. There are three major exams throughout the course and they are all writing and no multiple choice. Not hard exams if you pay attention and take the time to study on your own time. Great professor and makes the lectures sure fun!
Hes hilarious and cares about the students that make an effort to converse or ask questions, but his class is brutal. No hw, but u have 3 written exams that determine your grade. He gives note outlines for lectures that help with following along (because his lectures dont have slides or powerpoints). if ur uninterested in history like me, its hard.
This class was enjoyable. Dr. Walia is a hilarious professor, and he really cares about his students' success. The class is based on three different exams (2 midterms and 1 final). His grading on exams is a little interesting, but GO TO THE REVIEW SESSIONS! Overall, a great professor, and he really knows what he's teaching
No hw, only 3 written exams. Those exams are your entire grade. If you don't like history, this will be a really hard class. If you miss class, you will not pass. Exams are based of lectures only. Slides/lecture are not posted on canvas.
