This guy is totally cool and laid back. He is willing to work with you if you do your work and stresses that you be on time. He's actually interested in trig and is devoted to helping you out. I totally recommend him.
One drawback: he will facilitate laziness. This means that he actually gives you a cheat sheet for each test PLUS you get to use your own. Take him if it's your last math class. Not having to memorize formulas in his class has hurt me in Calculus.
This guy has funny antics in class. He is childish and skillfully avoids answering students questions. Leans heavily on powerpoint. Creates his own distractions in class. Has a pony tail?? He is almost like a beggining teacher.
The lectures were very poor, usually only a few minutes on the subject. Avoided answering hard questions or helping students. However, very lenient on test scoring.
This guy is an idiot. He makes dumb remarks and has a lot of favortism to a few students. I pretty much taught myself in this class.
This class is so easy!Homework is simple, you can turn it in online. The tests are a breeze, he is very understanding and gives half points to questions that you got wrong but showed your work.
He tries,he knows the stuff, but the thing is he doesnt know how to teach it!(To relay the idea to others effectivly)AT ALL! might as well buy the book and teach yourself. Also you will feel like your in elementary again, name cards for role on desks and candy for his fav's. Please take someone else.
This is one of the worst teachers ever. He does not know how to present information. Not willing to help all the students who may have questions. Favors those who are doing well in class. Be prepared to teach yourself the information.
The worst math class I've ever taken. Not only was i bored for the whole 18 weeks, but i didn't learn anything. The class is pretty easy because he gives partial credit on tests, but I wouldn't take him unless you have to.
he did not put up with the stupid people in class
He is unwilling to answer students questions and favors people who are doing well in his class. If you plan on taking plan on teaching yourself because he is not going to teach you.
Everything but tests are online. Online book is a little cumbersome to navigate. Class period involves a brief 10-15 min. and then your on your own. I only recommend this for people who do well in math, since Webster comes across as more babysitter than teacher. Managable with effort, convienient, but avoid if you'd prefer a strong teacher.
Take him only if you know math! His lectures are somewhat useful, but not all that clear. He's not all that helpful, but I know he tries. The good part is that he gives out a lot of partial credits on tests, but there is homework every night and attendance is a must! I hate math and he only made it worser.
If you you can take Gene Sellers or Phillips. I would not take him unless I had to he is not a helpful teacher.
hes a horrible teacher, he doesnt teach or explain the materials very well. and i also feel like i am in elementry school with the whole name tags and candy deal. plus he is very impulsive about food. and when students question his grading system he doesnt answer them and choses to ignore them. his grading system is horrible!
he doesn't have tenure as far as I know, so all is not lost.
mark webster is a very smart guy. math is his world and if you have any question regarding math subjects just ask him and he'll give you the answer. he is an approachable guy but you must be willing to approach him. he gives alot of examples and that's what you get on the test (no surprise questions like most teachers at SCC). i could'nt even pass the divided int. alg. classes(math 123-124) but i passed his math 120 class which is the entire thing. that says alot about a teacher. take his class.
easy in grading exams and hw.no extra credits.if you want to get a good grade work hard on your own.90% tests and 10% of hw is his grading system
He is an excellent teacher. He understands that students are busy also, that they work and have a life. I like it when he goes over exams and takes you step by step through problems that are most likely going to be on the test. Study hard on exams and most importantly attend class because his lectures are very helpful and don't be shy to ask ques
i didn't EVER come to class. just read the book...and did the HW...and i got a B. but that's because i actually did work hard. his tests require a MASTERY of the chapters...no easy pts...good on partial credit though. DROPS lowest test.....take him if you're good at math. otherwise.....there are easier teachers.
Great Prof. Really understands how to deliver crucial info to the student in a way he/she will understand.Sets aside class time to answer Qs everyday. Really wants stdnts to understand. Encourages office visits. Online hmwrk eases mastery because it's like having an insta-tutor.
Mr Webster is awesome at belittling people. If you want to listen to someone who has absolutely no desire to deviate from the bare minimum of his job, he is the one for you!
He's not mean but he's not friendly either. He's a little world and his whole life revolves around math. Thank God the text book was good and I was able to teach myself, because he sure didn't. He focuses too much on going over HW probs rather than teaching the sections. A lot of HW too... I reccomend taking someone else if you can!
He is all over the place when he's teaching. Leaves out minor details. Never writes down the name of the lesson on the board. Confusing professor, I learned a lot more from the book then from him. He is also a tricky teacher when it comes to tests and quizzes. Never knew what to expect in exames, so some advise STUDY EVERYTHING!!!
Mr. Webster is a great teacher! He is very patient; whenever you have questions, he's willing you to ask:) He used handouts, but HW were on the textbook. It's fine if you don't buy a textbook since he will put those on the internet! It's not a difficult course but also need to work on it! I did every HW and I got an A!:D
Definitely a challenging class, but he really helps you understand the material. If you do all the homework on time (which, compared to other teachers, isn't that much, though you do have to turn in homework), you should do fine. He's a huge nerd, and brings up many examples that left me scratching my head, but it didn't detract from the class.
take his class. a great teacher, very smart guy, very clear. if you do your homework he'll jack up your exam grade by a letter.
Very good teacher if you are willing to put in the work, he is more then willing to help you attain the best grade you are capable of.
Prof. Webster is okay, it had been quite a few years since I had taken any math class so I needed someone to explained more and do more examples of problems so I could understand it easier, but I'm doing okay. I think a different book would have helped, but I can't complain too much it was only $30. Just ask more questions if you're lost.
He is kind & willing to help you. A must is attn, take good notes, HW (reasonable wkload), 5 exams & a presentation. Surprisingly, it wasn't as bad as I thought. Math 300 is about applying math to nature & the real world. Most exam questions are from hw problems & practice wkshts. It's predictable & everything he covers in lecture is in the exam.
Great prof! Very helpful and answers all questions. Best math teacher ive had at SCC. You must attend class and he collects homework. If you dont like to work, dont take him. If you want to learn and understand math, this is the teacher for you!!
Mark knows his stuff and is well-prepared. You can't stump the guy. But, he has a dry sense of humor though. You have do the homework to understand. Also, prior knowledge of Algebra is a must. His test are very "sneaky" because they're not always based on homework problems.
He is funny in some ways.. Very nerdy.. but very helpful.. knows what he is saying.. and DO homework and turn it in on time.. Tests are graded pretty fast and fairly done. You will get an extra credit if you catch any mistakes on the answer key for the tests. Listen to the lecture.. A recommended professor :)
he is easiest math teacher i have met in SCC, he's class is easy, funny , and helpfull. attendance is not mandatory, if you don't want to come, just email him, whatever reason, he will agree. and no mater if you come class late
well if u gonna take this fool. I beg u not. otherwise U will dissapointed and waste whole semaster on that. test is even question form the book.i have the test is about 90% and up,but he mark me 70%. ok then i ask him for more point, but he disagree his mistake. and not give me any pts.also blame me "dont push the luck" i hate him
I really like math and am good at it, but I have never had a harder time learning a subject before. The homework is easy enough but then you get to the exams and it's like you don't know what you're doing. The Exams are 10 times harder than the homework. Which frustrates me. I want the homework to prepare me for the exam, but it doesn't quite.
I took his class at summer school. At first, I hated the guy, and when the course ended I loved him. Said this, you can expect a lot from him. He does handle a lot of homework, but if you're committed, there's nothing to worry. No kidding but I spent more than 80 hrs on math lab doing homework. But, he's a cool guy.
It was a hard class. Brush up on your algebra skills or you will bomb! He weights homework heavily so do all of it and you?ll still pass even if your test grades are poor. Not too much help as an instructor but VERY generous grader.
He is not nice but a resonable teacher. No suprises on test. Do the homework and ask clear questions and you should do well. it is a hard class
He has to refer to his solutions maual A LOT. right answers on exams are important dont expect much partial credit. exam questions all from the book, and homework was 20% so that gives you a major boost. lecture straight from book just goes over examples. Not horrible but definitely not great.
I took him for statistics and it was an online class. It's work intensive. There are 3 tests throughout the semester which he calls midterms. He drops your lowest exam grade and your lowest homework grade. There is a final. He is a fair teacher and extremely helpful; volunteered to hold an onsite class prior to the final. Great Teacher. I recommend
This has to be one of the koolest teachers at Sac City. Sometimes he comes across a little tough but what do you expect when idiots try playin him thinking they can still get away with the same things as high school. He helps students at his office gives partial credit for showing your work drops the lowest grades. extra credit if the test is hard.
I wish to thank Mr. Webster for his kindness. I am a disabled student and may lose my eyesight. Webster let me record the lectures until I got a doctor?s note for school and he let me come into his office for help. He gave everyone extra credit when the tests were hard and deserves to be treated with respect.
This professor is very dedicated to helping his students and will only grade you well if you actually put the time in to work. My advice to you is to read the corresponding section he will be talking about before you come in for lecture, that way everything is easier to connect when you are in class. You will not get an A in this class w/o work.
He does try to help his students understand the materials but his chapter exams are mild to hard. He teaches right out of the book and sometimes could be unclear. He hands out chapter reviews but they don't really help since the exams' questions could be much more different and sometimes harder. If you really want a good math teacher, try Manriquez.
MATH 334 has been redone to be MATH 335 since I have taken this professor, but Trig is essentially what he taught. Very nice guy, he makes himself available for office hours and he will help you if you ask for it. Do the homework, he is very generous with it. The tests can be channeling, but he is lenient for that reason.
Great Teacher, very helpful and always willing to help during his office time. Takes a huge interest in connecting what we are learning to applications in the real world. I actually failed his course the first time thru but took him again because I enjoyed the course and know it was my fault I did not pass.
Very clear and funny. Lots of homework. I took summer course and spent many hours at math lab. Not strict. Exams reasonable and not too difficult. Study hard, especially if math is not your forte.
Last choice. Poor lectures. Can't/doesn't answer questions outside of his teaching notes. Offensive to those who ask questions during class. Rude to those who enter class late, instead of continuing lecture berates the student who comes in late, in front of class. Read between the lines of the other reviews, they just weren't as up front as me. BAD
Taking this professor for linear algebra. All I can say is this: AVOID at all costs if you are a SERIOUS student. For such an essential course, Webster completely squanders it. He knows virtually nothing of the subject, can prove nothing, and is limited strictly to his pre-lecture notes. I'm getting an 'A', but it might as well be an 'F'
HW is mandatory so you don't fall behind. Tests are exercises from the book. Just do your HW and you'll live. Friendly guy. Nerdy too.
The professor heavily relies on lecture notes and references from the textbook. Does not clearly answer students questions, and avoids any subjects that deviates too much from his notes. Does not prepare you at all for his tests, and treats his favorites better than others.
Grade base on 4-Exam-90% and 10-HW-10%. Exam, no trick question, straight from the exam's book. HW, 6-15 question on each section. Make sure to read the chapter before going to class because he tend to skip steps & doesn't explain well. He lecture @ a decent speed, and use powerpoint. His exams are easier than Professor Alex.
Prof. Webster is a very nice person. I took his linear algebra in Fall 2010. He is always at his office and looks forward to helping students. He is very approachable. I have a hard time to imagine 3 dimension. Prof. Webster helped me to understand the 3D vectors and spaces. Give us extra credits ,too. As a ESL student, I prefer him.
Webster's class is fairly book based, but that doesn't mean he doesn't know what he's doing. Math is an incredibly difficult subject for most students, and Webster treats it as such by answering nearly all questions thrown his way and trying to help the students understand. Not an easy class, but not as hard as some of the other teachers at City.
He is a fair instructor and very lenient when grading the exams. He's also funny as hell. A lot of math teachers crack jokes to keep the class awake, but Webster is truly a funny guy. Even if u don't have a sense of humor, you WILL laugh at his jokes. Overall, the class isn't too demanding compared to other Calculus classes.
He is a nice teacher, but his lectures are horrible. His study guide his nothing to do with the test. Only take if you are good at math.
He just pass out worksheets and hardly lecture anything. His test are challenging but he does drop the lowest test score.
just becuz he is "lenient" & "funny" does not make him a good teacher... Webster is a terrible instructor. if u take this class, u pretty much have to read the textbook and teach urself.. Good luck...
If u want an A you will get one if you apply yourself. He's funny and very helpful with any questions you have. Lots of worksheets to help you understand math concepts.
Well he is nice when it comes to partial credit on tests, but the overall class is terrible. You have to teach yourself because his lectures are vague and he spends most of the class period going hw problems.
If u take him for Calculus, he loves to put problems on the exam that require knowledge of trig identities and logarithmic properties. So make sure u study those type of problems from ur homework. Class isn't that bad. He grades in a while that makes it nearly impossible for students to fail. Got a B without much effort (I'm a math major).
Mr. Webster does everything in his power to help make the class easier but the matter of fact is, Trig is a tough course. Test are super easy if you study and homework is graded and assigned generously
This is my first semester and his math teaching skills are horrible, everything is basically off the book and like many other people had said, you have to teach yourself almost everything. But he is a very nice and kind hearted person
Professor Webster is a very good teacher, his exams from worksheets and homeworks. You will get an "A" as long as you study your worksheets and homeworks. He is nice and helpfull. if you have questions he is helpful in class and during his office hours.
This is one of the best professors i've ever had. He is so happy to see people come in to his office hours and ask questions, and you can tell he really cares about math as well as his student's personal success. He has a pleasant personality and a good sense of humor. If youve ever had problems with him, you are probably not applying yourself.
Mr. Webster is a very clear and thorough teacher. He really wants to help you learn, and never treats you like have a dumb question. Very approachable, helpful teacher.
math 110 is a fairly easy class. but professor Webster just doesn't do a good job at teaching it. Class is very boring and lectures are based off the book literally. So if u have trouble learning off a book, u will struggle. He tries to make it fun, but it just isn't. Other than that, he's very helpful and really nice.
Trig was a tough course but professor Webster is generally a good teacher. His material is clear and his exams are not surprising since they are from the homework's. An "A" is more than possible as long as you do the homework.
I am taking him for Summer and he is already extremely hard. He does not give you sample problems or work through them with you. He provides a worksheet, and than has you do it on your own. He is very nice, but not very helpful. Many have commented that they have to go home and Google everything he talked about. Goes a mile a minute.
Probably the best summer class I've taken. If you do the hw and attend, you will do great in the class. He was clear and dropped hints for the exams. His worksheets helped a lot, better than the book, (since he uses Mr. Harbison's book). When you didn't understand something he would encourage to meet during his office hours and didn't brush you off
I usually am great at math and this professor is horrible. He doesnt know how to teach and then hes super sarcastic and rude. I dreaded even dealing with him. and his extra credit is impossible. you have to find mistakes in the textbook he wrote. take a different professor if you can!
Every easy class! Pick questions straight out of his workbook and textbook. Same questions, just different numbers. About 10 questions on each exam and 12 on final. So if u do your homework and practice it again before the exam, u can easily get an A. He only provides study guide for final exam & picks most of the questions from there. No quizzes.
Do not take Webster for Calculus.. He spends most of the class time talking about his personal life, and often gives hand outs and expects students to just work in groups on their own. Exams consist of problems from the EVEN #s in the textbook (some of which take some considerable critical thinking & knowledge of Trig & Logs).
Mark Webster is my favorite math professor in SCC. He is calm and funny. His teaching is clear and straight forward. I wish he thought more math classes.
Best math professor I have had, very helpful wants you to pass, does make test review in class and on the board, sometimes curves tests based on entire class performance. He found an entirely free book online that we were able to download the pdf. Also had the link for those who insisted on buying a hard copy. Highly recommend Senor Webster
Professor Webster is really kind and passion. If you need someone who can wake you up when you feel sleepy studying math, don't take him. He makes math feel like a tale your mom told you before you went to sleep when you were little. But if you like someone who teaches math calmly and gently, then you should take him.
A ton of homework, hard to follow in lecture. I'd definitely take a different statistics professor.
Do the work and you'll get knowledge and also pass the class.
Professor Webster is a really good professor. He requires all the homework done. If you do his homework and learn how to do the problems you will pass this class. I'm glad i took his class for cal 2.
Trigonometry is not an easy subject. His homework will give you easy points to compensate for your tests. The tests are gradually more difficult but overall fair. All in all, he is a fair teacher but expects you to read the materials before going to class (it is not high school anymore). Do the assignments, understand the concepts and practice.
Webster is a professor with an engineering background. If you are an engineering student, TAKE HIM. Weekly homework. Test are based on homework problems and his Review Sheet problems. Attendance is mandatory. Super helpful and always in his office hours. Allows a formula sheet for his final exam. He post a lot of helpful stuff on D2L.
I strongly believe he should retire. He is not the best at explaining anything. The whole class is at a total loss in class. He just goes over our HW problems and we just rigorously write them down and try to figure it out at home. Come back the next day to go over those problems and then it repeats. Book was useless. I wish he did extra credit.
This class was ridiculous. Blazes through chapters without any aware that many of the students just aren't getting it. 3 tests and a final. Each test covers 2 chapters. Tests compose of about 7 problems, pulled from the lengthy homework assignments and test reviews. Tests on some of the hardest material learned. HW is graded but isn't worth much.
Super nice and funny. My description would be "adorable old man". Very clear about things and if you don't understand something he's very nice and quick to fill you in on anything you're missing. He calls it "gaps in your knowledge". He has homework, but doesn't require you to do the questions right, just that complete them. Loved this class.
Professor Webster is kind and truly wants you to learn from his class so he tries to help you out if you need it and strive to receive it. He helped me out when I needed help from the class I took from him and tried to make sure that the entire class understood the material. I recommend taking the course from him if you wish to truly learn.
He will be doing a problem on the board, make a mistake and then confuses the whole class. He is only human but for people like me (math is really challenging ) it's hard to learn when the teacher constantly makes mistakes and throws off the whole lesson. He makes at least 10 mistakes per lecture.
I actually am really enjoying math120 with Webster. He is very kind and patient towards his students. He explains things vey clearly. Yes some people may say he is boring, but you're in school so you should try your hardest to stay interested. I find his class easy and enjoyable.
Math isn't my strongest subject but Professor Webster was very helpful. He encouraged us to come to him during his office hours whenever we needed help. You earn what you work for in this class. So, pay attention in class, turn in the homework and do well on the test! The homework and review helped a lot to prepare for the tests.
Hard to keep up in class. The way he explains it is very confusing at times, and I found myself just bringing the textbook to class and teaching myself. Not likely to forgive late work or more than a few absences. I strongly recommend considering another professor.
his class isnt hard. TAKE HIM. Weekly homework. Test are based on homework problems and his Review Sheet problems.
I took Webster a long time ago. He is my favorite Math teacher in Sac city. He is very organized and easy to follow. He grades homeworks and homeworks can be 16 - 20% of your overall grades. His exams are based on the homeworks and worksheets. The class had a lot homeworks and worksheets but it's worth your grades. Would take him again.
He gives so much homework!!! Also really loves to erase stuff from the board when everyone is still writing. His practice tests aren't anything like the real tests. Over half the class failed the third test and he didn't understand why. He's so nice and really cares about students but he should not have been teaching calc 3.
He's an excellent prof. If you get lost in lecture, go to office hours. He's very helpful. To the review below me, over half the class passed Exam 3 (he curved it). Practice exams really helped me do well on the real exams. Of course there'll be HW in math, he assigns a fair amount. Gives extra credit for finding errors in the practice exams.
He's fantastic. The lectures are clear and get you excited about math. When I got sick (the reason for my D) he really bent over backwards to help me. It is the hardest class I've ever taken though. Pretend he's grading the homework for accuracy or you won't stand a chance. The 3rd midterm and the final are much harder than the first 2 midterms.
2.5 hour lecture was dull, difficult to pay attention. Some sections you're better off reading and doing the homework on your own. Went to office hours and oftentimes felt more confused than before I'd gone. Worst part was the 3 tests were ALL over the place. Takes problems from review/homework but difficulty was inconsistent. Do the hw it's 12%
Mark has sparked my sense of wonder about math, while also making me feel capable of delving into higher-level courses. He's a great lecturer, but you likely won't understand all the material during class. Some of it's difficult, A lot of work, but very fair grading and hardly any extra credit.
I took him for calc3 last semester and it was pretty mediocre. He gets off topic pretty easily and isn't the best lecturer, but he's not so bad. He's so sweet and I could tell he really cared about his students and is passionate about math. He gave us practice tests that helped a lot and allowed non-graphing calculators!
Webster is a good professor, assigns homework everyday but they're really helpful towards the test. You get a practice exam before taking the test and they pretty much look the same. There are only 10 questions on each exam and if you study hard they are easy! Overall, he cares about his students and he is available outside of class.
Be prepared to go to this class everyday. Do the homework and show up to class and you will be fine. It was really difficult for me because I didn't do my homework. But, the homework isn't graded so you don't actually have to do it, that's a plus!
I took Professor Webster's class last semester which was my first time attending college as an ESL student. I mean I was working hard improving my English but his lectures was so great and clear for me to understand well. He talks very gently and always cares if we have problems , AND HELPS us figure them out. I LOVE his class!!
Show up to class
The Intro. to Probability and Statistics is a lot harder class than I originally thought. The challenge comes from the many new concepts we are being introduced. You will need good study habits to pass this class. At the end, this class gives you the tools to be successful in Statistics - whether at the college level or at work.
