He's a nice enough guy but his voice is squeaky and he can sometimes be boring. It is fairly amusing nontheless.

I loved this professor. nice teaching style, and understanding. very approachable, read and you will do fine. if you don't like to read then definately don't take this class. brings childrens lit to a whole new level.

Mr West is a GREAT teacher! He's so funny and he is very fair. Do the assigned readings and attend lectures and you will get an A! I think his voice and antecdotes are a nice change from boring old-monotone lady teachers.

I don't think many people take this guy seriously enough. I appreciated his wit. I also appreciated the fact that he was WAAAAY out of the orbit of departmental politics. A real professor.

Not really hard. I never read a complete book in my life and was req to read a book a week in this class. Loved it though. Turned me into a bookworm! Do readings/ study lec notes: "A+" will be in your future.

I think he is a great teacher. Makes it a little more interesting. He is a little weird, but very nice. Is assistant is nice too. I don't know why some people thinks she does dope. Whatever. I thought some of the readings were very boring. There were only I a couple that were good. Take him!

Dr. West is one of the most entertaining professors I have ever had. I is passionate about what he teaches and really gets you excited about reading children's books. I never thought I would look forward to reading Alice in Wonderland. YOU HAVE TO TAKE HIM! No tests, just bi-weekly quizes.

Professor West is one of the best professors I've ever had! His lectures are SO much fun to listen to, and his quizzes aren't hard as long as you have read the books and taken notes on the lectures. I would take any class this man taught!

Absolutely the BEST professor I've ever had! I could listen to his lectures on a daily basis. This should be a mandatory class - it is truly fantastic. I wish he offered a continuation class or at least taught more children's lit/adolescent lit classes. THE best class and THE best professor!

He is a good teacher, VERY wacky. I thought the quizes were tough. You HAVE to pay very close attention to every detail in class and take notes! Alot of memorizing authors, their books, and summaries of books (that we didnt even read).His T.A. is very...UGH. she grades the quizes and gives no mercy. Your answer has to be the way SHE wants it!

Reuses lectures over and over...I borrowed notes from my friend who took him in '03 and the notes matched up EXACTLY to the ones I took! He does, however, have very interesting lectures and is very enthusiastic and knowledgable. Quizes are fairly easy and he drops your lowest one. The final is a piece of cake. I would highly recommend.

Dr. West is a great professor! Children's Literature is a fascinating class. His lectures are like a movie, and he's hardly ever boring. The quizzes are challenging. Really study the notes and READ the books. Class is great. I highly recommend!

He tells the historical context of the children's books as well as reading some books to us in class. He is very understanding. I do not recommend missing a day because there are lots of notes. I actually wished their were more books to read. After the class, 13 books became easy enough. Beginning, I was scared.

TAKE HIS CHILDREN'S LIT CLASS! HE'S WONDERFUL!!!! You need to read the books (they're children's books so they are not hard) and listen to the lectures to do well. He is interesting to listen to, and very knowledgable about this class! :)

I was actually sad today because this was his last lecture. He's amazing. Without a doubt one of the best classes I've ever taken.

He is so awsome that I am taking another one of his classes next semester. He is funny and interesting and all you have to do is show up to class and you will get a good grade.

6 quizzes, 1 final, 13 books to read. I thoroughly enjoyed this class and wish it would continue forever. Unless you have friends in this class, you must attend every day to take notes, but it isn't taxing on you in any way. Quizzes are short answer based and final is multiple choice. They are extremely easy if you took down notes. Easy A.

LOVE HIM! I hate going to all of my college classes but not this one! Hes the best professor in the entire world! His lectures are not boring at all, hes funny, just take notes, read, and study and you will make an A! Esp. if your an education major you will enjoy this class! He is very funny. You have to read the children's books, and it is a lot of reading. But he makes class entertaining. The tests are easy if you have read. If you don't go to class you will miss the notes, and you need them, but he doesn't do attendance.

This is a guy who is a really good teacher. He is engaging, witty and quite likable. He relates well to his students. I found his assignments and classes to be interesting and challenging.

Incredibly interesting man and class. I took this class as a summer class for graduate school. It is usually always difficult to come to class daily in the summer, but Dr. West made the class extremely enjoyable. I have been able to use my notes from his class in my teaching experiences as well. Definitely have put to use what he taught us.

Dr. West is BRILLIANT!! He is passionate about his subject which motivates students! He has interviewed many of the authors he discusses in class. He has written several books. I love reading them! Dr. West's class is the highlight of my day! Take him! You have to register early; his classes fill up the 1st day!

Children's Lit s an easy A, IF you plan on actually reading the books. You will not pass the quizzes if you don't read because the questions are based on specific details in the book. If you do read and take good notes in class, you'll definitely get an A.

He is a great professor! just read the material (a lot of childrens books) make sure you read them. there's a quiz after everybook which basically makes or breaks your grade. he drops the lowest one. final is basically the quizzes combined. Easy A if you like to read! i suggest this taking this class!

West is a very passionate man who loves to speak of his experiences. He's very animated and can keep your attention the whole class without ever putting up a power point. He knows the books and can ramble about things without hesitation. It's a fun class, but you do have to read. There's no way around that!

Great professor! I have major attention problems, but his lectures were all easy to pay attention to. He's a puppeteer so his teaching style is almost theatrical. Highly recommend taking one of his classes if you're an English major.

If you take good notes in class and read(or use sparknotes)assigned books you will get an A in the class. He grades generously and he WANTS you to do well in class. TA was also very nice.

I personally loved this class. I read all of the assigned readings and went to every lecture but one. If you pay attention and take notes, you will get an A. This is college, so you do actually have to do the work. If you fail, it's because you didn't read or go to class. He is a fair grader and really interesting to listen to. Very knowledgeable.

Excellent class, Very interesting and inquizitive instructor! West is insanely clever. YOU HAVE TO READ, but he normally teaches a children's literature course so that is to be expected. You have to plan your reading and take notes in order to pass the quizzies, I have yet to make below a 90 and I am taking two literature classes.

Professor West is by far one of the best teachers I've had. All of his lectures are easy to follow along with and they are really funny. He talks like he's telling a story which makes his lectures even more fun. Participation isn't a huge part of the class and really the grades only come from the quizzes and final. Read all the books and youll pass

Dr. West always kept my attention through the lecture, mostly because of his demeanor and humor. He really loves his subject and it shows. If you show up, take notes, and read the children's books, you'll get an A. Doesn't take attendance, but its still crucial. Love him!

Very interesting lectures, sometimes too off topic. Lecture heavy, attendance is not mandatory but you need to show up in order to pass the tests. Quizlets can be your best friend in there, read the books or at least very well written summaries. Study your authors. Short answer quizzes (6), the final is multiple choice.

This class was easy because all you have to do is read books and take quizzes. However, finding the time to read multiple books on top of other classes/work can be difficult. It is imperative to set aside a certain time of day to read!! Also, he goes over quiz material in class so attendance is important as well.

Dr. West is an awesome professor! He's so passionate about Children's Literature, and it honestly made me more passionate about the topic. His lectures are interesting and he tells a bunch of funny/interesting stories. I always looked forward to watching his lectures. Obviously, a lot of reading is involved in this class, but you would expect that.

This is an amazing class to take! We read a wide variety of children's books and dove into the history and development of children's literature. Dr. West gave the most entertaining and informative lectures. I took this for my minor and I'm so glad I was able to have this professor!

Such a fun class! Because of covid it was online but I still enjoyed watching his recorded lectures. You can tell he's very passionate about what he does and it's very apparent when he teaches. The books we read were children's books so very easy on that regard. All we had to do was listen to the lectures, read the books and take the quizzes/test.

This was my absolute favorite class and professor. We read 12 books and even though it's a lot, they are spaced out well and the content you learn about them makes it worth it. I would recommend just reading the books because you will get more out of the class. The quizzes are super easy if you take a lot of notes. Definitely take this class!!

Skip class/readings? You won't pass. The readings are easy and Dr. West is a very fun lecturer. Tests are a mixture of book details and lecture content. You need to have both to pass. There are 5 quizzes (25p each with the lowest one dropped = 100p) and a final (worth 100p).

Loved his lectures! He was very funny and would often tell stories that would relate back to the material. Read a book a week, but they were children's books. We only had 5 quizzes + final, so if you missed class the quiz would be a bit hard. Regardless loved him as a professor!

took him for immigration in children's lit; this was a new course for uncc and him. assigned a lot of books to read within a really short time, and for me, i could've gotten by without reading a single one. he only assigned 3 papers and all of them had easy prompts. dr. west is a cheerful and outgoing guy, but his classes were boring nonetheless.
