he is hard because he is such a lame teacher
No Comments
has no clue what he's talking about... you pretty much are teaching him!!
he doesnt help you learn the math!!
One of the worst teachers I have had a Chico State. It is a class for future elementary school teachers and he has never taught children in his life! He had a horrible way of presenting concepts.
did not answer students questions about assigned work, frequently gave incorrect answers to homework, rude, condescending, AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS!
His answers are NEVER correct. He is a ****! He sucks as a teacher and should have never been hired. The only person who would ever hire this dumb ass is a fricken monkey.
This class was supposed to be for those number-impaired but it was SO hard. His bad attitude coupled with his condescending nature equalled a bad combo. Very hard to sit through. Avoid!
Just avoid this guy. Utter misery awaits you for the entire semester otherwise. His smile alone will irritate you. Very condecending and inconsiderate to students. In my opinion, very unprofessional. Find another teacher for your section.
just go
he was into the class, which is good. he often acted more like a cartoon character than a math prof. he was hard to follow, and answerd all questions with uniformative sarcastic response. i give him a C-
This is the creepiest, ugliest, worst teacher ever. I did not learn one thing from him. He treats his students like we're two and is very scattered with his lessons. Save yourself and don't take him.
He should be a elementary teacher. He goes off on tangents and then when he gets back to the material he tells you not to worry about knowing it. if you study the material yourself its an easy A. Nice man, not a great teacher.
He is the worst teacher in the history of the world. He's a smart ass who doesnt answer your questions and half the time doesn't know how to solve the problems himself. If you have him, just talk s**t to him. It makes the class more interesting.
This is the dumbest teacher I have ever had! He never answers any of my questions. He is so stupid and stubbern teachers I have ever had! Who ever hired him is a dumb ass! HE CAN't TEACH HIS TEACHING TECHNIQUES ARE A JOKE. HE NEEDS TO BE FIRED!!!!!!!!!
this teacher doesn't help at all. he is really weirdl. try to get another teacher
If you got to him and ask for help he will pass you as long as he knows your trying. He does treat you like you are in elementary school. He is weird too, not that bad of a class, pretty easy as long as you try.
I TOOK THIS CLASS FOR TEACHERS AND EVERY TIME I ASKED FOR HELP HE WOULD SEND ME AWAY TO ASK A CLASSMATE. YOU CAN NEVER TELL WHAT HE'S GRADING ON HIS TEACHING RELIES ON A SHEER COINCIDENCE THAT SOMETHING MIGHT MAKE SENSE. I GOT A D FROM HIM AND TOOK IT AGAIN AND ONLY DID PART OF THE WORK AND GOT A B
he's not THAT bad..and he is a sweet guy if you just get to know him. its math, so of course it sucks..but he trys to make it a little bit more upbeat. im not doing too good in his class but that is because i dont go much..so GO and go to his office hours and get help-he is always willing to help.
Mark Wilpolt is a little goofy BUT he genuinely likes what he's doing and he DOES make math more understandable. I found the class to be relatively easy--do your homework, go to class, etc. Don't believe the underachiever posts, he IS one of the better in the dept. and I've had most by now.
Look, I hate math, I'm bad at it, I always have been bad at it. But he teaches it so it's easy. SO EASY. And if I can get a good grade in that class, anyone should be able to; if you don't, you're just plain not trying. Go to his office hours if you have trouble.
If you get him as a teacher....Get out FAST!!! He is so hard! He totally doesnt even explain the material...If you ask him a question he'll say figure it out...or we'll do it next class but then NEVER EXPLAINS IT>>>Doesnt answer questions!!! Sarcastic, Rude, Not Helpful...needs 2 QUIT or be FIRED!!!
Great teacher! Really cares about his students and is excited about math.
Good class from what i could get out of it. Personally i had a hard time concentrating on the material since their were far to many females in my class!I had to get out!
HE SUCKS. DOESN'T ANSWER ANY QUESTION. DOESN'T TEACH****. DOESN'T DO NOTHING BUT FAIL PPL WHO DON'T GIVE HIM "FAVORS".
HE SUCKS. DOESN'T ANSWER ANY QUESTION. DOESN'T TEACH****. DOESN'T DO NOTHING BUT FAIL PPL WHO DON'T GIVE HIM "FAVORS". AND HE'S DIFFICULT B/C HE DOESN'T HELP
this guy got fired from chico high because he was such a****ty teacher. take that as a hint that you should get out of his class... what a loser, seriously.
Fairly easy class if you have a little background in stats. He LOVES stats so hes very enthusiastic about what hes teaching. Tests can be a little tough, but studying will fix that. I would not say hes a bad teacher, but statistics isnt that difficult of a class to begin with
doesnt know what he teaches so cant explain it. if you know matrices, functions, etc the the class will be a breeze. but if not you will be blown away.
It blew my mind that he would teach a class of math for teachers, but he has no experience teaching elementary school kids!! His references for what worked were based on his experience with his 6 year old daughter. I learned lots in 50A with another instructor and was excited about the class but it left me bored and frustrated each week
Mr. Wilpolt knows his math but has a difficult time relaying it to his students. He's very disorganized. Was told I had many missing assignmetns. I found all of them in his stack of papers. TIP: Go to his office hours if you have missing assignements, you may very well find them there! Takes awhile to return your tests and homework. Got an A.
contrary to what most people said about this guy he's actually pretty good he goes very slow for the math unfriendly like me I haven't had a good grade in math in 8 years and I'm passing his class hows that for a helpful hint
this was a good intersession class to take because it was fast and fairly easy. I thought he did a good job teaching and loves what he does.
Wilpolt is fairly unorganized. He lost my homework a couple times and doesn't even return homework for weeks/months at a time. This is a problem because homework is a LARGE portion of his grading. Messed up manny, many times on math problems and had us fish him out of them. Tests aren't too bad if you know how to do problems from the review sheets.
He is very unorganized. He doesn't return homework for weeks at a time. He will not answer your questions, instead he tells you to ask someone in class. Lots of group work instead of note taking...really hard to learn...
This was the most horrible math experience of my life. AVOID AVOID AVOID at all costs. All his class notes are extremely unorganized, takes forever to return homework and I did not learn anything!
I also don't know what the rest of these ratings are about. Mr. Wilpolt is so a great teacher. He is a little quirky and he is a scatter brain but does teach clearly. If you go to class you shoud be set. He is always around for help and really enthusiastic. TAKE this professor if you could pass Alg. 2 in high school this will be a piece of cake.
Im really confused by everyone's rating. I have had him twice and think he was great both times. I hate math and to be honest I just dislike school in general so for me to like a class it takes a lot. Mark is extremely helpful and goes slow so everyone understands. He's very enthusiastic and incredibely entertaining. I recommend him to everyon
This guy was nuts, over half the class failed, It sucked don't take this class with him.
this class is very easy if you are able to teach yourself math from the text-book. often in my class, students would ask him questions from the homework and how to do them and he would not tell us! also, during his lectures, when students asked how he got x, for example, he would say "i made it up" and continue. very frustrating
Mark is the most unhelpful teacher i have ever had in my schooling. He actually turned down students including myself for help. Do not take this teacher. I repeat, do not take this teacher!
he is a joke and is really confusing. kinda a nice guy though
This class is easy if you come to class everyday and do all of the homework. The exams are exactly like the study guides and he offers tons of extra credit. He is a very nice guy and is always willing to help.
This guy is a teacher. I bombed his class but that was because I was too busy and rarely did the homework. You will do fine if you do the homework prior to every class. He doesn't deserve a single bad rating here. He's very opinionated and lets politics get in the way sometimes, but he is nevertheless an extremely good stats prof.
HORRIBLE!!! AVOID HIM!
Mark is a nice guy, however he doesn't know what he's talking about. Either his brain works in a different way than everyone else's or he just has no clue. He assigns projects that he doesn't even know how to do, and then avoids your questions when you come to him for help. avoid him.
I had this professor for basic statistics. I had already taken the class the year before, but dropped out of it very early on because it was so borning. Mark Wilpolt is a very energetic teacher who is will to take time to help any student. He is very easy to get along with and makes class very enjoyable. His teaching style is very active.
Mark is a good teacher and shouldnt get any negative feed back. If anyone is even half-way serious about school they will get an A in his class because over all it is pretty easy. Go to class and stay current with homework and you should have no problem. Mark can be intense but its just because he is hyper and funny.
Mr. Wilpolt was impatient, on many occassions he would literally rip my paper out of my hand as I turned it in because he was in such a hurry. He would always give the impression that he would rather talk the whole class period and not be interupted. He was a good teacher but didn't show it. Many times I felt ignored or almost like a bother to him.
He rarely answered questions. Yeah he was a cool guy but notto everyone, I kept my hand raised for a full 10 mins at times. Sometimes I asked him to help me with a problem but instead responded, "you should know how to do it by this point in your life" he was rude a few times to some people. I just stayed quiet & did my work or got help elsewhere..
If you take him be ready for sarcasm. He will rarley answer your questions and looks away when you ask him how he got that answer. He seemed like a nice guy at first but after the first few weeks his attitude changes and he gets mad for everthing. I WOULD RECOMEND HIM!!!
Mark Wilpolt comes off as a pretty cool guy. Then when you raise your hand or have a question he completely ignores you. He explains math to you like you've never seen a math book in your entire life. He's BORING and a little bit of a jerk sometimes. I wouldn't go to another one of his classes.
very rude listen to the majority of the people who have rated him. he is a cool person sometimes although very sarcastic but he just doesnt cut it as a math teacher. find another teacher.
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!!!!!! he's horrible. He has no idea what he's talking about. He assigns projects that other professors made up and he has NO IDEA what they're about. He cannot answer your questions. He lost a 100 point assignment of mine. Nice guy, but he should NOT be teaching. Find another professor. For your sake.
FIND ANOTHER TEACHER!!! Unless you like being made a fool...
He is by far the worst teacher I have had in my entire life. You start the class thinking he's going to be pretty cool, nerdy, but cool. and then you get into the smester and he becomes a total ass. My friend asked him a question about homework and he refused to answer him. he does it alot. "Not right now!!" he will yell. run far far away
Most confusing teacher ever. Honestly just find another one. He will confuse you like crazy. I mean he is a nice guy but like some of the other people said, he doesn't cut it as a math teacher. Doesn't really help you. He asigns home work and doesn't go over it because he says "don't worry about those" although he does asign it.
He sure loves math!
I don't care what hater students say, he is by far one of the best teachers. You have to be in class and actually try to do the work to get a decent grade! He's not a cake walk teacher, but he cares about how you do. He does his job well and will always make time to help you.
Good math teacher!
He's crazy. A lot of kids say they don't like him. Honestly he's hilarious though. He will go over something until you understand it.
easy class but didn't learn a thing. too much homework out of the book. BORING. disorganized and careless. confusing. if you want an easy A he's your guy but be prepared to hate your life every hour and 15 minutes you're in there..
Really easy and not that much HW at all.
He's really funny and teaches a lot about useful Math for the real world. Not that much work at all and totally worthwhile to go to class!
Attendance isn't mandatory but you've got to go to turn in homework. Kind of a weird guy but gets the teaching done even when the class doesn't respond to his questions. Going to his office hours is recommended. He can be a little intimidating at first but overall, he's a pretty good teacher. This is an easy class.
He used to teach Jr. High, and still thinks he does. Very irritating the way he talks to students. Taking it online, I only go to class to take the quiz at the beginning of every class and get the homework worksheet. Take him if math is easy for you and can put up with a demeaning teacher.
He's horrible! He is the worst teacher I have ever had. He talks to his students like they are stupid. I hope he retires!
He is horrible! He never answers questions and doesn't help with worksheets. He needs to shave his stpuid toothpaste drip of a beard! Such a waste of time and so frustrating!
Horrible at explaining the material. Gets mad when people don't understand the concept. Complains more than he teaches. Expects people to ask for help but then is very impatient with them.
doesnt help students out when asked questions, speeds through the material way too fast, only take this class if math is your thing
I earned three A's this semester and got a D in Marks class. He is rude, seems to hate his job and outright refuses to answer questions in class. He's a smart guy and knows his math, but is very condescending when his students can't figure it out. I don't recommend this class to anyone.
This teacher is not a horrible person its just when he teaches there is no point to what he is teaching. I have to say I have learned some things in his class but not much. He bird walks a lot meaning he talks about a lot of things other than math.
He is by far the worse teacher at Chico state. He is rude and does not help at all. When you ask him for help he always says, "I'm not here to help you on something you should of already learned" Hello!? Aren't you a teacher to help out students? He is annoying, No one should ever take his class. He needs to retire.
mark had been my least favorite teacher here. he will not help his students and is a rude person. i stopped going to his class because i can't stand to be around him. take it with someone else
I'm not going to lie, its a hard class. HW everyday and a lot to take in, class was graded 60% HW 40% (4) Tests, attendance is mandatory but same with any other math class. He is very smart and will help you if he knows you're trying and you have a good attitude otherise he'll shrug you off saying "i'm too busy & u should go to tutoring instead"
Hes a terrible teacher, for instance he doesn't help, all he says it you should know the material. If you have this guy as a professor I suggest getting a tutor or optional help. Advice is to choose another professor to start with.
Great class if you study independently. HW is all online which makes it super easy points & your TI-84 calculator will practically take the tests for you. Not a lot of effort or time is necessary for a good grade in this class.
I thought he was cool at first but after attending his office hour,NOPE. He kept questioning my questions nonstop in a rude way. It was stupid. That was a total waste of time. One of the worst professor I had so far.
Mark was okay for the most part. the material taught wasn't hard at all. when i went in for office hours he gave you this feeling of "hurry up." he did help you but it was great help. the class was fairly easy if you do the HMW and study a little.
The online homework allows you to get an answer wrong aand it will tell you the correct answer and you can fix your answer. You can get 100% on every assignment. However Wilpolt is very annoying. If there's two people talking he will yell at the whole room full of people for it. It's very distracting and unfair for the people who aren't talking.
I did learn from him in lecture, but I did NOT like him at all as a teacher. He is so rude to his students. I would never recommend him to any of my friends; avoid him if you can.
Not very professional. Cares about math, but can be annoying, and even kind of rude sometimes.
Worst teacher I have had he doesn't know his stuff. he should be teaching at some elementary and not in a College.
Worst teacher ever! He doesn't care about his students or their grades. He doesn't know how to explain what he is trying to teach, and doesnt answer students questions. On the last day before the final he ran out of review sheets and told everyone that didn't have one to go home because it was pointless to be there. I do not recommend this class.
Literally the worst teacher I have ever dealt with in my entire life. If you ask for help he will respond with a rude condescending remark and tell you tat you should already know the material. He lost one of my 100 point assignments (which I got an A on) and gave me a zero on it. He is a horible teacher and does not care whether or not you succeed
I drop this math class after the first week of the semester. He doesn't help students. He suggest everyone to have a tutor. Acts as if every student know the math problems already. If student ask him a question, he ignore them. Does not qualify to teach students.
He is really rude, but he thinks it's funny. In the middle of lecture he will randomly tell us how screwed up our lives are or how our government is corrupt in a serious dark tone. I didn't like the class, but the online work was the worst. You can't really miss a class or you will be pretty far behind.
This class is not as hard as all these comments make it out to be. Attend class, do the homework (which you can get 100% on), turn in the worksheets, and try your best. People simply complained and thats why they did bad. He is nice enough and the material is common sense. Equations given on tests and if you know the steps you can easily solve them
The online homework is awful. As a professor, he is rude, not at all thorough, and expects you to learn the material on your own. I understand that it is supposed to be a challenging college class, but his expectations and teaching methods are unrealistic. I am an A or B student but I am failing his class even utilizing all of the tools available.
going to lectures were pretty frustrating. He's just uncomfortable to listen to, and is really passive aggressive. material is easy, and if you can keep up with the online work its bearable. i wouldn't recommend him however.
He is a good teacher, a little quirky and slightly rude at times but not intentionally mean. If you work hard there is no reason you won't get an A and if you are open minded to a unique personality you will genuinely find him to be charming in his own way.
Tells you what he expects right off the bat. Returned emails quickly and as long as I was trying he was trying to help. I would take him again if I had the chance.
Homework was online, had some work in discussion section. Terrible at helping in discussion section ONLY says to ask your neighboring student who probably will not know. Good in lecture, gets point across and can teach well to an audience, but not one-on-one.
If you can teach things to yourself this class is an easy A. He's not good at explaining things and really isn't willing to. The online homework is easy to get full credit, you just need to be able to teach yourself from the text. Class is basically a worksheet you do each week in a group for participation.
He was TERRIBLE.. that is all I have to say.
Funny guy. Cares about subject and students. But just not enjoyable, take stats.
Mark is honestly the worst professor I have ever had in all my years of school. If it wasn't for the clicker lecture would be pointless. His discussion class is even worst, don't try to get help because he will just blow you off. He treats his class like elementary students. Take a harder math class, it's worth it! Worst class at CSU, Chico
He is a TERRIBLE teacher. He expects the class to know everything he does, calls people out in class ALL THE TIME. He's rude to the students and treats them like 5 year olds. If he didn't have clicker questions during class then lecture would be pointless. Mark never posts the homework when he says he will and doesn't respond to student emails.
alright teacher. went over hardest possible questions in class. tends to get a little carried away with himself.
If you can teach things to yourself this class is an easy A or if you took the class in high school,. He's not good at explaining things and really isn't willing to. The online homework HARD without explanation to get full credit, you need to be able to teach yourself from the text. Class is basically a worksheet you do each week, don't explain HW
Yes he does know the material but rude to students. I was ok with the material in this class but seriously hated going to class because he was so condescending. Mutliple times he would turn away a student asking a question saying they should know how to solve it on their own. PLAIN. HORRIBLE. TEACHING. METHODS.
This class is not hard. He teaches you math, but since there are 300 people in the lecture, he cannot answer everyone's questions. The online portion of the class basically teaches you everything. Math takes practice: the more you practice it, the more likely you will pass the tests. If you need help, you ask your discussion teacher.
the most annoying and rude teacher at chico state. doesn't explain anything and is insane about clicker points and if you need help he doesn't help at all. i was lucky and got suzie yakes as my discussion teacher or i would have not done so well. his tests are pretty short and not to hard. he is just super annoying
Very passionate teacher and he explains things pretty clear. As long as you pay attention and watch the online homework it's an easy class to pass.
While this guy was easily one of the rudest people I have ever come across in my life, I did learn a lot in his class. Each class day I felt like, while I HATED being there, I was learning the material. The online work was helpful as well.
Doesn't take the time to teach material. Gets mad if your not prepared. What helped was the online videos that your going to have to watch/take notes from. The online hw shows you steps how to solve problems which helped. If you average D's on his 3 exams and average A's on the hw/worksheets you'll pass the class with a C.
If you are taking math 101 with him sign up in the ssc to get a tutor, this will help you pass this class with at least a B. The tutor will probably help alot more than mark because he expects you to put the time in learning the subject on your own time. You get plenty of time to finish homework, if you stay on track and get tutoring you're golden
Awesome teacher, some people cant appreciate teachers like mark because they think they are entitled. Mark is a great teacher take him!
This teacher is so helpful! Anytime i needed help all i had to do is see him during his office hours! So nice!
Amazing teacher, one of my favorite
Math got 10x more confusing for me after this class
4th year in college one of the worst teachers ive had. Mark will not help if you ask question in discussion. Have to teach yourself the subject matter or get a tutor to pass.
I decided to take this class during my final year to get my degree and while I do hate math, it was doable. There are only three very short tests, weekly discussion class, and you must attend lectures because he collects clicker points. I still can't stand math, but he made this final math class not so torturous so for that he gets a good mark.
Mark Wilpolt is a terrible professor. He shows up late to every class period, and is high off of caffeine. He runs around the room and when you ask a question he gets angry and tells you to ask your group. Yesterday no one answered the question he asked and he repeatedly hit his head into the wall. He strays from the topic. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
Professor Wilpolt is a tough math teacher, although one on one he is very helpful. Gives a lot of homework, and really loves teaching math. If you want an pass in that class you defiantly going to need a tutor.
Mark falls under the generic math teacher phenomena: He's incredibly learned in his subject, but he teaches about as well as a dead tortoise on top of a pile of "Good Job" stickers. He's constantly overaggressive to his students (especially about eating or drinking in the classroom) and disregards the concept of sympathy and loves My Math Lab.
If you get him you will see why no one likes him
HE is a so RUDE! He can not sit still to save his life, he goes about 1,000mph while lecturing. He refuses to help most people in class while we do "group work". Comes into class most days saying he has drank a lot of coffee but it seems like something else.
I would not recommend this teacher. He's rude, doesn't help students, and goes way too fast. One of the worst teachers I've had and that's not coming from somebody that doesn't care about school. I hope he reads some of the comments so he can begin to be a better teacher.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS BY THIS PROFESSOR, YOU WILL NOT PASS!! He will convince you not to listen to these bad reviews of him, BUT YOU SHOULD!! He is no help at all, even if everyone in the class is confused. He just assigns group work for you to do all class. He can go from acting nice to rude in one second.
Okay, so Mark is a little rude. I can understand why people don't like him. If you are like me and good (or even okay )at math, then this class will be a complete joke. Literally, Math 101 is a joke. However, if you suck at math, then you should probably take a different teacher.
lecture-based, clicker points for attendence, online homework ( abt 1-2 a week), and a hw sheet you get in discussion. Once you learn the rhythm its an easy class. Discussions are mostly group work, if you want individual help go to office hours he helps you out ALOT! Don't be afraid to take his class, he's definitely passable.
He treats his students as if we are all slackers and non of us want to be here. He constantly talks down to us and makes you want to run out of the room screaming. His class is awful, but you have to go to pass.
He is skilled at his subject and tries his best to explain it. He is also very helpful during office hours. Very nice and energetic but I think he does it to try to keep the class active because stats sucks. Only thing I hated was MyMathLab, the answers had to be so specific and the instructions weren't always clear. We only took 3 tests
I have taken 2 separate courses with Professor Wilpolt, and he has never let me down. He is extremely helpful and has a firm grasp on the material he teaches. He is hilarious! Spends as much time as is necessary for the majority of the class to understand concepts. Really puts effort into his classes. Awesome!
He is not that bad of a teacher. He explains a lot in his lectures because the course is designed to cover a lot of material in a small amount of time. He goes through multiple examples in class of how to do the homework problems. There is ample opportunity for help sometimes online and sometimes in person The class is not that bad.
He is a little wacky and full of energy but he does teach in a way that's easy to understand. Math was always a tough subject for me but I passed and actually understood statistics in this class. I took the online portion and only met inclass once a week.
Not helpful. Very condescending and attempts to degrade those who are in the B or below range. Does not like to answer questions, whether they are perfectly relevant or not. Not an approachable person.
He won't help you. He says ask if you need help then says to ask your group and if you say your whole group is confused he often just repeated ask your group.
Lectures are alright but if you can get out of taking this class, you should because mymathlab sucks and that's what you'll most likely be using. I'd way rather do homework with paper and pencil than mymathlab. Make sure you attend lectures because the only way you get marked as being in class is by answering all clicker questions.
Mark Wilpolt is the worst profesor you could ever take. He lectures super fast and it makes them 10x more confusing than they already are. He tells you to ask questions then he makes you feel dumb for asking them and tells you to ask your group. I would definitely not recommend taking any of his classes.
I had to write a rating for Mark, bc almost all of his ratings are bad. He is a very helpful teacher, when asked a question he will answer it. I was hesitatant to take class because of poor ratings but I still enrolled. Only 3 tests, no quizzes, all hw online that gives you multiple chances to get answers right. Also gives all formulas w/tests
He's "that" guy. Stay away
If you don't need to take this class, don't. Or at least try to only have him for lecture and not discussion. He doesn't help his students, he just tells you to ask other people. Makes unnecessary jokes and political remarks. You can tell he really likes math so he is enthusiastic about teaching, gives formulas on tests, but not a good professor.
During lecture he talks as if students are stupid and children
I took stats in high school, and Mr Wilpolt is a much better teacher. He thoroughly explains everything you need to know for the tests. Sometimes he does get a bit frustrating when you try to ask a question, he'll run you in circles. Overall, I really understood the material with him as a teacher. Actively participate in class and do the homework!
One big thing that bugged me was that he had trouble making eye contact when addressing the class. Mark would make me feel dumb when asking a perfectly acceptable question. He would constantly interrupt us when speaking up to say an answer, and would respond to most questions with "ask your group". I would not recommend taking this class.
I was never able to take good notes in class because he went through the powerpoint way too fast and waited exactly a week to post that lecture even if there was a test two days later. When he did teach, he would get sidetracked every class, without fail, to complain about millennials and politics and anything else that didn't relate to class
We learned both in lecture and online. Tests were pretty straightforward and gave us practice tests beforehand. Wants you to pass and understand.
There's clicker questions, so I recommend not ditching his class if you want those points. Wilport's lectures were boring and he goes through each slide so fast that you'll have to wait probably a week or more to them online. Go to the SI discussions, I learned more from the tutors there than from Wilport's lecture and discussion classes.
Lectures are heavy! He goes too fast and hardly takes his time to explain things. Really wished if he would of went at a normal pace i would off got a like a B or A instead of a C. Also study for the tests! Yes, they may be difficult so review your old homework/ notes. Lastly good luck with math! This was a huge lecture class so i hardly got help!!
Take notes! He covers a lot of ground but I was able to keep up. Clicker questions, so showing up is very important. Lots of online homework, but nothing unreasonable. I found his explanations easy to follow, and I suck at math. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK. Seriously. He posts the whole thing on the website. That's the only negative for me.
Tends to talk about his political views a lot, tries to speak as young students do, seems very scatter brained, goes off topic often, speaks over students, most homework is online, some class worksheets for credit, no consistent structure in his class. You must purchase MyStatLab online and must purchase them class notes. Don't take if not required
Mark teaches the big lecture part of the Math101 class while him and two other teachers teach the smaller discussion components. He wants you to succeed, but is kooky and does not explain the material in class very well. The reason I left with an A is because I took higher math classes in high school.
Mark is a really good professor, but he usually only goes over one topic in a 50 minute class, which is a bit stressful.
Taken Stats 101 with Mark and now i am taking Stats 105 and let me tell you this guy is freaking funny!!! My Stats 105 class only has about 35 kids, but the class is so funny. I enjoy math now thanks to Mark. To be honest show up to class, take notes, do homework, and study for tests. Overall an easy class to pass :)
He's not the best but he's certainty not the worst.
Okay here's the deal Mark is not a tough guy at all, but he wants you to earn your grade. Anyone can pass his class but just: Do your homework, Come to lecture and STUDY for the test!!!! Sometimes he can be a pain in the ass but overall funny professor. Tip - go to Khan Academy (best way to study for his exams!!!!)
ok so he's not a terrible professor, but he can be super aggravating when it comes to answering questions, and I took the class at 8am and he was just too much! He explains the material ok. The class isn't that hard if you study. He gives a formula sheet for exams and all the homework is online
Mark Wilpolt is absolutely the worst professor I have ever had. He started off the first class by showing statistics of all his past students who have failed his class which was over 60%. He does not respond to emails, and makes a point to tell you that in class. I would highly recommend NOT taking his class.
The 1st day Mark states that if he were dictator of America he would confiscate all firearms and destroy them. However, don't be a snowflake and let his dictatorial personal opinion of our Constitution get in the way that he is a great stats professor. Clear, non-monotonous lectures; go to class, do HW , you'll pass. He prepares you for success.
This guy really loves what he does and it shows. Sometimes though it seems like he hasn't looked over the material and just kind of wings the lecture. His homework isn't overwhelming if you stay on top of it. His tests are exactly what you'd see on the test prep, no curveballs. Good teacher, great attitude.
Mark Wilpolt is hands down the WORST professor I have ever had the misfortune of taking. He is rude and arrogant in just about everything he says, he SPITS on the projector screen to wipe off the marker, refuses to answer questions and refers you to only ask your group. I retook with another professor and passed with an easy A. AVOID MARK WILPOLT!!
I took Mr. Wilpolt's class at Butte College, and his class was wonderful! He makes stats fun and easy to learn if you attend lectures. He also has the lectures online in case you missed class. I have never gotten more than a C in my past math classes but I maintained an A all semester in this class.
He's just a silly old guy. If you struggle with math make sure to avoid him, but if you find math easy then he's a pretty entertaining guy who isn't too hard to follow. But if you STRUGGLE I want to reiterate, AVOID him as you will get lost, confused, and likely will be told to ask your classmates for help if you ask him for clarity.
He's horrible at answering emails and won't help you when you ask for it in class. Can be very rude to you. Just goes to show, the first day of class there were over 30 students and the last day only 11 were on the roster. His tests have questions he has never taught you how to do before. Offers very little extra credit thats not worth the time.
I really liked Mark. His lectures were easy to understand, and he provided video lectures he made for Canvas. The lecture videos are as good as in-person lectures, so it won't really matter if you skip a day or two. He doesn't give out too much homework, too, and only assigns two weekly assignments. Plus, he's a funny guy!
If I could describe him simply is he's a good teacher but a bad person. He tends to be very unfriendly but I think he's settled down compared to the past ratings I've read of him. Personally I think he should be avoided if you're more of a sensitive person and/or you really struggle at math. I will admit he is a pretty funny person though.
Mark's MATH18 class is great - his lectures are clear and engaging, and the online videos are just as helpful if you need to miss a class. Use the free textbook, do the HW, and you'll cruise to an A. Unstuck AI also saved me some time when studying.
