Boring, unknowledgable.
those who can do, do. those who cant, teach.
Great teacher...except that his Assigments are designed to fail us
You're right, hes assignments are brutal
1)prepare before lectures 2) show up on time
utterly useless at times...i mean...he just throws up overheads...

I like it when he tells a corny joke then loses his train of thought
the most ridiculous assignments i've ever seen - long, boring and pointless
Nice guy. Brutal assignments. Lose track now and then.
Nice guy--KILLER ASSIGNMENTS! cant teach arrays methods and objects
Very unclear, seems smart but has absolutely no teaching method, useless class
Not bad teacher.
Don't really like him, always shows up late, seems nervous, overheads are great
Anybody can read an overhead
his lectures are designed to get people to drop out, it seems....
much love... but, some people were just meant to be factory workers

Surely knows what's going on!
*looks at clock.. thinks to himself only 5 mins late! oh ya!

Late, unprepared/nervous for lectures, never knows what is going on!
Presented material logically. Course design too compromising. Everyone loses.

unclear,nervous,unorganized, late
Unprofessional attitude
anyone can read an overhead, no point of going to class
is this class some sorta joke? i learned 0. A monkey could have taught me more!
what prof? i didn't know we had one!!

He was really helpful, and he did a good job. ppl complaining are the problem.
Awful assignments
A Chair is not a Desk, But is apparently a Variable.
sometimes it seems he has no idea of what he is talking about.
See ya next semester, I learn more from eating stale cheese.
Better then Dobo thats all I have to say
what have I gotten myself into!
Quiz's were brutal, exam was great. Shouldn't wait so long to give out assgmts

He's ok. Better than Dr.Evil Dobo....but not as cool as Morton
didn't even know what he was doing!
Spends more time arguing with his computer than actually teaching the class.

Was of no help to the course at all

No idea what he is doing......sometimes forgets to show up for class
Terrible. I can't believe he wasted 2 classes comparing computers to baking
easy assignments
Great Lecture notes
very helpful when approached, great lecture notes, fair expectations of students
He looks like Brendan Fraser
coffee was required for his lectures
Okay, isn't there something in the undergraduate calendar about giving out a semester plan with due dates on it at the beginning of the semester? Yeah, this guy ought to try making one up so he doesn't have to pull due dates out of the air later.
Smart.. but I would have a tough time debating whether to watch paint dry or go to one of his classes.
unclear, bad assignments (ill be damned if i understand him), only good thing abotu his class is watchign everyone leave, worth it because other teachers make fun of him
easy to understand and willing to help
Honestly, when you explain something to someone especially in university, try not to think that they're complete morons. If you want boredom, this is the guy for you.
k, this guy had all his powerpoint ready and clear, very organized and VERY clear, most people didnt go to class and thats why they found it hard. He once stayed an hour after lecture on a friday night to help me.
This guy is boring but is a fantastic prof. He is willing to answer questions and explains things VERY throughely. Go to all his lectures and even if you're a begginer you'll pass very well.
very clear, easy to understand, posts copies of notes on the internet, great overall prof.

He is very lazy guy and he is not clear about what he is saying
Good Prof, very clear and helpful
Nice guy, tries really hard to help if you ask.
He shows up consistantly late to class. He just reads the slides and when he expands on them he just confuses me. I can get all the slides online and read them myself and they make more sense.
Needs to Work on Presentation
He's not that bad... He has his moments. He'll answer any question you have (and then some...) but I definately felt sorry for people who aren't in CIS because of the terminology he was throwing out there... He makes things harder then they have to be a lot of the time.
Worst prof I've ever met.. Very irresponsible...Always late for classes and meeting..Lazy..Always not clear about what he's saying..
I would try and focus in class but his lack of enthusiasm would put me to sleep. Extremely boring. I stopped going to class because it was so pointless. Exams aren't too bad & you're allowed to get cheat sheets on which you can write ANYTHING. I'm computer illiterate & got 88% on this course.
I found Dr. Wineberg to be very helpful. Whenever I saw him during office hours he spent alot of time with me to help me understand the material. I think that he is a nice guy.
Very helpful when needed.
If you go one on one with him is is an amazing professor. He lacks skills to teach the same way in front of a class but he is still an amazing professor.
He is a great prof, he spent alot of time after class helping me, and was always available when I needed assistance. Sometimes he even replied to my emails at 2:00 am! He definitely knows his stuff and his slides are great, very detailed made my life a lot easier. A nice guy.
It is a great prof. Explain the details but if you missed something, you can not follow him again. He knows his topic very well (statistics and genetic algorithms).
Had him a while ago. Not a great presenter (seems kind of nervous, and drones a bit - has one of those voices), but very helpful after class. Rather absentminded. Willing to help, but tends to have "ivory-tower" tendencies, and may not always be aware of the required background for his classes. One-on-one with him is more valuable than class time.
No one can deny it -- he known his stuff. But holy hell is he boring. I'm sitting in class right now, there are exactly 20 people. Class is of 50+. On their laptops: 10 On their phones: 6 Asleep: 1 Paying attention: 3 Ooop, reduce that to 2 people paying attention. Someone just reached for their phone. Awful professor, crazy knowledge
Wineberg is a very kind professor. He is intelligent and knows his stuff. If you are unable to follow him during his lectures be sure to talk to him outside of class, he is very willing to help.
Mark definitely knows his stuff, it's just the way he is presenting that is awful about his teaching. He spends an entire slide, literally 20 mins on one specific slide and talks about it while no one is paying attention. He then goes on to the other more important slides and skips over them in a couple of minutes, even seconds!
I'm gonna be honest if you know what you're doing you'll probably still fail his assignments, in the last 3 assignments i had witht his guy he made a total of 16 edits all of then within the last 5 days of the due date. He's so unclear about the assignments which need i remind you are worth over 40% of your mark. Plus he won't give extensions.
This guys a goof. He drops assignments that have little to no correlation with what he is teaching you in the lectures. You must learn how to do most of the programming yourself, which is difficult for those who don't have much previous experience.
assignment instructions are never clear, on top of that, they involve the need for concepts we Never learned in class. never responds to emails
He is not the best lecturer and the assignment instructions were not always clear, however they were designed to prepare us CIS2430 and CIS2520. This is computer science - you can't teach someone how to code in a lecture - people who are complaining about having the teach themselves will not survive the program. Computer Science is not easy.
I swear this man wrote his assignments at 3 am on a Friday night without even worrying about if they made any sense. Never responded to my email concerns, even after I went to his office hours and he gave me another email. I'm glad CS is a field where you can teach yourself, because that's all I did.
Mark knows his stuff and I really enjoyed his lectures. He is REALLY helpful and nice if you go to his office hours. He is a little disorganized especially his lecture notes as there were lots of typos in them.
Wineberg isn't exactly as organized as one would hope and he sure could make fewer edits to his assignments (especially when it's the night before the due date) but all in all, he knows what he's teaching. The lectures aren't perfect, nor are his instructions at most times but if you go to him and ask questions, you'll actually understand things
This man is probably the most confused professor I've ever encountered. He was constantly sending out emails updating his assignments because he made mistakes in writing them, one of these updates came after the assignment was due. If you have the option to avoid him, please do.
Literally does not teach. He always goes over time on lectures, despite not actually saying anything for most of them. He has gotten stuck on the same Powerpoint slide for over an hour because of constantly going off on tangents. Assignments come with no instructions or examples, you're just left to GUESS what he wants.
"You will have spare time for the midterm", final words before a total disaster of a midterm. Nobody finished it. This prof couldn't give a proper lecture if his life depended on it. He does not care about his students at all and laughed at multiple people in lecture who complained about workload. Not just a bad prof, a bad person.
Worst prof I've ever had at Guelph. Lectures are excruciatingly slow/boring. Never given an interesting lecture, rambles incoherently. Assignment descriptions are vague, frequently changes them, has to add pages full of Q&A from confused students. Totally overwhelmed by this course and the number of assessments for very little %. Haven't learned
If you can avoid this "prof" please do. He's a disaster, especially online. Lectures are boring and don't help. Slides are just copied from the textbook and make no sense. Assignment descriptions are vague and none of the material is learnable online. If you ever have questions he will rarely answer an email and if he does it's just vague guidance.
Absolutely terrible. The worst prof at Guelph, by far.
this man SUCKS, If you put Mark Wineberg next to a vacuum, the vacuum would want to be called a mop. He has no passion for teaching, he talks a lot but nothing makes sense. very vague. used someone else's powerpoints and cant communicate at all.
Wineburg seems like a nice guy, just wasn't a very good prof for the two classes I had. Usually a disorganized class doesn't bother me, a few rescheduling things or slight changes to assignments sure whatever. The amount of assignment changes, skipped and added lectures, total re-weighting of deliverables, etc. was too much even for me.
Wineberg has a good heart and you are able to see this by how fast he jumps to help you one on one. It sucks that he isn't as strong of a lecturer. When he does lecture nothing makes sense due to his tangents. His assignments offer no instruction and for the most part you are left guessing, which its hard to get help through covid.
He knows his stuff, and is willing to help if you reach out. Two problems here is he can be slow to respond via email, and tangents often cut into time better spent on content for assignments. That is without mentioning the HUGE (20+ hours a week) group project, which is unreasonable if taking other classes. Most stressful course I've ever taken.
Wineberg tries to be a good professor, he just isn't. He's one of the most monotone lecturers I've ever had, which makes his classes boring to attend, to the point where most of the class can't focus. His CIS 3260 class had an insane workload, to the point where it the busiest class I have taken. He also broke 2 Uni policies with assignments
Very disorganized, many assignments had to be constantly updated throughout the semester due to poor communication. Had several issues during the server implementation during this course, grades came back months and months later. The codeless codes were graded arbitrarily, pushed deadlines into the exam week and on top of that graded harshly.
After 4/5 years as a software engineering student at UoG, this is the first time I actually felt like it was my duty to inform students what they will endure with this professor. Lectures are slow, marking is extremely slow. I have an idea of my mark for all other classes but i only know the marks for 5/12 tasks. AWFUL. Would give 0 if i could!
It has been halfway through the semester and every will is begging me to warn other students about him. You are better off asking your girlfriend what she wants to eat than asking Wineberg on what he wants for an assignments because I do not think that he even know if it is right approach or not.
This is his first time teaching this course and it is extremely apparent he has no idea what he's doing. Lectures are slow and useless. The group project that is the main focus of this course has been incredibly poorly defined, and written feedback is replaced with a zoom call where it feels like he's making up the project requirements as he marks.
The lab times were used for lectures. Assignment descriptions were vague and confusing.
blud needs to game end himself. I guess he's funny the way everyone thinks he's a joke. He look like peter griffin from fort so I guess he's cool.
Wineberg is inspirational in the sense that he inspires his students to want to crash out. Leave it to peter griffin to turn a 3rd year, 0.5 credit, DESIGN course into the most demanding, convoluted, and pointless yap sesh of your university career. You can tell this man has hit the rock bottom of academia... Clearly industry wouldn't touch him...
Lab time was used as lectures, unclear grading guidelines, outdated slides, poor communication with the TA leading to grading mistakes, slides had mistakes he claimed had been there for years but have yet to fix, grading assignments took ages, solutions were never released despite promised to and required for later assignments. STAY AWAY FROM HIM!
