I like this man. I like him very much. He teaches EXTREMELY well and keeps the class engaged in every lecture. The only thing is as a student you have to show him that you are super duper excited in his class or he blows you off, and will do this for the whole term.

I don't know what to say. I honestly would have failed this course with any other professor. His energy, excitement and sense of humour kept me going to the lectures and paying attention, even though the subject is (for me) about as fun as a trip to the dentist. An excellent professor overall.

Took C273F+C283G with him a 2 years ago. Almost like the Energizer Professor. He's very interested in making sure you *learn* the material. Good teacher and nice guy overall to talk with. If you have the chance take a course with him, since he's a great lecturer. Also will drop in during the labs to check that people are doing ok.

We had a different prof for the first half of the semester and I couldn't even listen to him speak he sounded like Eugene Levy...Then Workentin came in, and I found a new passion for heading over to my early mornin' chem class!;)

Nice guy and made going to 8:30 class more enjoyable. Only used textbook in lecture, I thought it would have been nice to have lecture notes to use in addition to the textbook. Short answer exams made it easy to get part marks and do well! Overall one of the friendliest and most passionate professors I have had. Made an effort to know students!

The best chemistry professor I've ever seen. I took an intersession orgo with him and in just 11 days of lecture, I've learned SO MANY things from him - he makes it that easy to understand. You might panic during his midterm, but honestly, if you study and fully understand the concept, you will get above 90% for sure.

Very good at explaining, a lot of enthusiasm during class and very clear. However when approaching to ask questions his tone is condescending at times. Overall very nice guy, engages the class, and shows a true joy in teaching. One of the better profs at western for sure

Workentin is an amazing prof! He was very enthusiastic about orgo which made class enjoyable. Very personable prof as well, came into lab sections, introduced himself, helped students and got to know students a little bit!

I took this during intersession (hell; not recommneded). Although we finished the entire course in 13 days (hell), he really explained everything very well. He also makes the course very interesting. Ended with a 95 just because I only spent 2 hours sleeping during intersession. Should be very easy if you're taking it during the normal term.

If you take time to understand the concepts and do all the problems he tells you to do,a good mark is achievable. Amazing guy and really funny as well. I hate chemistry in all its forms, but Workentin managed to keep me really really engaged during class. I always understood (to some degree) what was going on in class because he is really clear and has a great personality!! GO TO CLASS it pays off!

He's so amazing that students from the other guys class would rather fill up the stairs in our lectures that go to their own. But seriously one of the best profs i've ever had. He can explain even the most difficult concepts for everyone in the room to understand (even if he has to explain it 3 separate times to make sure everyone gets it)

Ya the course itself is tough, but he's always trying to empathize with his students, and it's so obvious that he wants nothing more than to help students learn. He explains orgo in a way that's clear and easily understood, succeeds at making the course interesting, and creates exams that may well be the most fair exams I've ever had to write. By far the best prof ive ever had. He really takes the time to explain things that are difficult and wants us to succeed. The textbook really clarifies what is talked about in class and the questions in the lab manual will prepare you. Don't bother doing the textbook homework

Prof. W was the only prof that made me like orgo. Good prof who is really passionate about what he teaches and wants his students to do well. Definitely a lot of rxns to remember but he explained the logical ideas behind it making it less daunting. Also, he gives an extra credit thing (#orgosaveslives) so it can boost ur grade by a bit.

He goes through examples in lectures but also has pre-recorded lecture videos posted, but that alone won't help you on the exam. Do the assigned questions if you want to do well on the exams!

Professor Workentin is the first prof I've had who I can say I really liked. Rarely do you see such an awesome and enthusiastic prof in a class like organic chemistry. He is one of those professors who can take a difficult course and actually make it enjoyable for his students. If you get him as your prof, consider yourself lucky!

Worky may assign a lot of homework but it is always worth doing. He literally takes textbook problems and re-words them for exams, and never asks you stuff he or the textbook hasn't covered. Half his exam questions you've seen before. He also organized the course to give students chances to recover from a bad exam. My fav course 1st semester.

Workentin is one of the most entertaining professors I've had so far. He had a way of making the course content look easy during lectures, and I feel like he provided good advice on how to succeed in the course, though the course content itself is still highly difficult.

Amazing prof! I enjoyed going to his classes whether I understood the lecture right away or not. I would definitely take his class again. Highly advise you to do the online lectures before going to class, but even if you don't go to class you can do well in the course. He made orgo easy to understand. All his exams are fair.

He will say the exams are like the questions he gives for homework, but are quite the opposite. Hardest course i have ever taken at this school. The midterm was fair but still difficult, BUT THE FINAL, nothing could have prepared me for that unless I studied for months and months in advance, but that still wouldn't have helped as he found a way to overcomplicate every reaction/mechanism we learnt. Overall, unless you are a genius, don't.

Dr. Workentin makes organic chemistry fun. People that are giving him bad ratings expect their grades in Orgo to be high with minimal studying and hard work. Of course Orgo is going to be hard. Prof. Workentin is an overall great prof. He would take the time outside of class to explain orgo concepts and draw out models to ensure that students got concepts down well. His midterm this year was a little tough, but the final was so amazing, that I was able to thoroughly bounce back.

Workentin is a fine professor if you read the material in advance. Otherwise, it's terribly difficult to follow along during the lecture. He gives a bunch of textbook problems but the exam questions were much more difficult. All I can say is make sure you REALLY know what you're doing going into the exams (not just surface level understanding).

It's a tough course but he's a great professor. I definitely recommend doing the readings before lecture and/or watching the online videos.

If you go to class and do the Wiley questions that he assigns you will do good. There were so many lectures where he hinted what was gonna be on the final (and they all were). You just really need to stay on top of the work and put in the effort

Friendly, kind and funny professor, with decent videos to supplement his lectures. I'd recommend attending lecture and watching pre-recorded videos, but you need to make an effort to deeply understand what's going on. Final was one of the hardest I've taken at this school, and the midterm was also very challenging.

Dr Workentin is the goat. You can feel his love for the orgo in every lecture and he explains concepts super clearly. He's blunt about having to do all the practice questions to succeed, but he isn't wrong. The test questions are super fair & similar to the assigned Wiley practice.

Such an amazing professor. Despite how orgo itself is a difficult course, Workentin makes the experience 1000x more enjoyable. His love of teaching is so evident and he truly is so encouraging and wants students to succeed. He tests very fairly and I even believe that the final was much easier than it should have been.

Workentin was a great prof but orgo is hard—it's not a 1.0 on the difficult scale lets be so fr. i got the same grade so it's not even a jealousy thing. rate the prof how they are, not by how satisfied u are with your own grade. Also dont deflate the difficulty to make others feel worse abt their grades
