This class is pretty hard. You will have homework every night and it will taken up once a week or you will have a pop quiz. He does hold a help session once a week which I would advise going to.
I covered a broader range of topics in my high school physics! I skipped many classes and passed with a B and little effort. Annoyingly, he felt convinced I was cheating and spent 1/3 of each test hovering around me!
He was very unhelpful when coming and asking for help on your own. Very rude and help session problems were nothing like the test. Avoid at all cost and go with the russian man.
He gave excellent illustrations throughout the semester. Difficult class but very entertaining.
He is a jerk!! He thinks he knows everything and very unhelpful. He talks to you like you are stupid and his tests are very tricky!! Dont take him if you can help it!!
Mark's a good teacher. He has help sessions every week to prepare you for test. Also he gives you a sheet with equations on it for the test. Everything needed is on the sheet. If you have any equations solving skills it's an easy A
Avoid taking a course from this man. He has a tendency to berate students in front of the class, refused to help me when I approached him, even when I made it clear I wanted to cater to his schedule. He doesn't listen to what students say in class, and when doing examples on the board he skips steps because he assumes that you know how to do the problem, even when you ask him to show you how to do it. I don't know why he chose to be a professor, he obviously doesn't like teaching.
Prefers to teach with examples that he assumes you already know how to do. Tests are VERY tricky and count a lot each. Do Not take!
He is overall a great teacher but his tests are hard!
For the most part, I enjoyed being in Mr. Worthy's class. While some may consider him difficult, it is possible to achieve an A, but that my include many, many hours studying. I think he teaches pretty well, and his tests are generally fair and not as difficult as he could make them.
no one can retell a darwin award like this man. i love him.
Mark is an excellent teacher! I would recommend him to anyone taking the course! He brings relevant examples to class to show what it is he is teaching, which makes learning the material that much easier and that much more enjoyable. When studying for the test I simply studied my notes from class because the book confused me on several occasions.
If you are good at Physics, he's great! He plays favorites...If you are okay or horrible at Physics, take another teacher if possible. He does visual examples in class but very few problems. He has a huge ego, and it's hard to get him to help if you don't have a very specific question. Overall, okay teacher, but you have to somewhat "get" Physics!
I took Physics and AP Physics in high school, so I found the class relatively easy. If you're good at physics I would take Mark Worthy. If you're not, find another professor. However, he is pretty funny and gives good example problems in class. He gives out a good amount of homework. Test questions are just like homework problems.
He's a very entertaining teacher, doesn't need his notes to teach, and his tests are fair. Not the most approachable guy, but he's always willing to help. Work and REWORK the homework problems, and an A is not easy but very attainable. That's what I did, and I had never taken physics before. Solid teacher - was my favorite class all semester.
Mark is a great teacher, and lots of fun. He assigns homework for ever class, and if you do it, there is no reason you can't get an A in the class. He is very sarcastic, but it makes it more interesting. If you have any problems, he is more than willing to help you understand it. But don't ask for help if you are not going to class.
do NOT take this professor if you like yourself. If you are an average student, prepare for failure. Cal based physics is hard enough. The homework is ridiculously hard especially at the end of the semester. Tests are SUPER hard, and only people who were already good at physics did well in his class. DO NOT take!!! DO NOT take!!!
He uses good examples and is extremely good about knowing what will trip you up. His constant cursing and humor keep the class interesting. He's somewhat curt and to the point, but I found this good. He's efficient, effective, and you learn; I definitely recommend.
I like physics and learned so much in his class. The downside, which far outweighs the upside, is that, while you may learn, the tests are more like 4000 level tests. They are EXTREMELY difficult. They are in no way Physics 1 tests. Also, expect more homework than grains of sand on the beach. Very sarcastic. Take physics at a junior college!!
Following our first test, he told us if we didn't pass the first test that we probably would fail the class. He told us we should consider dropping the class. This isn't what teachers are supposed to do. They shouldn't tell you that you'll fail. There is an abundance of homework. Tests consist of the hardest of hard questions. Just a warning.
Worthy was very difficult and used the hardest problems in the text book for homework. his test are not easy at all. but he will teach you and you will learn in the class.
Great professor. He is funny and keeps the lecture interesting. Gives great concepts and demonstrations of the topic. Will work any problem to an extent if you ask. If you want help you have to show you deserve it. 4 open notes quizzes. Tests are fair and gives partial credit to wor out problems.
He gives partial credit on tests which really helps, but giving partial credit means you wait longer to get your grade back. His lectures are interesting most of the time. Be prepared with questions when you come to class about the homework so you can see how the problems are worked.
I had him for Physics 1 (cal-based). Yeah, his class is tough, but he gives plenty of homework (that he curves 33% by the way) to balance out your grade. He's kind of funny and he will work example homework problems for you. But he doesn't post notes or anything online so showing up for class is for the best.
Dr. Worthy is an excellent teacher. His lectures explain the material well and he offers review sessions before every test and he curves homework generously so that you are pretty much guaranteed a 100% in that category. The subject matter itself is difficult and his tests are short so its tough to earn an A, but he curves at the end.
Physics I isn't an easy class, and if you don't put any effort into studying or homework you're going to have a hard time, but Mark Worthy is amazing at explaining physics concepts in a way that makes it genuinely fun to go to class. The tests are basically just homework problems, so if you know what you're doing you'll do fine.
He's a very quirky guy. He doesn't get very personal in class. You can tell he knows A LOT about physics and loves the subject. He is a GREAT teacher. The class is hard, so the tests are hard. If you go to class, do the homework, and study then you should be able to make at least a B. There aren't many grades in the class so you have to be carful.
If you took physics in high school, definitely take him for physics I if you can. Otherwise, stay far far away. He goes really quickly and assumes that you understand what he just said and moves one. He's tough, but you will learn.
I've always heard good things about Mark, but taking his class was a terrible decision. While he does have a good sense of humor, he doesn't take questions seriously. He encourages you to ask questions then ridicules you for asking them. A girl in my class asked him something and he laughed at her and said she should know it! Do not take him!
This class is very hard and Worthy is not one to take things slow. You have to work hard in order to get a good grade in his class. He tells you everything to know for tests, but does not like to waste any time. Make sure you understand the homework and if you have questions, be very specific as to what you don't understand.
Great choice for physics! Class is always interesting. Usually brings in items to demonstrate concepts and goes over homework questions every class. Typically had 2 online assignments each week. Tests make up most of grade but will shift weights if you do good on the final.
He loves physics and makes lectures interesting with demonstrations. Lots of homework. Go to class. Tests and grading are fair.
Very good at explain every concept using a lot of examples. There is a lot of homework, but it is useful in learning the material and he curves your homework grade. The tests are difficult, but if you study hard it is fair.
His class is pretty interesting, especially when it comes to the cool demonstrations and his humor. Teaches concepts in a more understandable way than most physics teachers. He assigns a lot of homework(which is curved), but doing it is necessary to get a good grip on the subject. Fairly hard class as it's fast paced but I definitely recommend him.
Physics is tough in general, but Professor Worthy is a good teacher. He can be witty at times, but also rude. Don't ask dumb questions unless you want to get roasted. If you want to do well, my advice is to do the HW and rework it before each test. Worthy isn't the nicest guy, but if you put in the work, you can do well.
Don't take Worthy if you don't want to be ridiculed in front of the whole class for asking questions. He is rude to students and doesn't care how you do in the class. If you did well in physics 1 then you'll be fine, but be aware that he isn't an easy teacher.
Worthy does a good job of explaining concepts BUT runs through examples and coursework VERY quickly and expects you to understand it or to be able to figure it out on your own. Homework is only a small portion of your grade and tests are graded hard. He also enjoys ridiculing his own students, so theres that.
Hey, Imma keep it real. Worthy is good at explaining concepts and working problems. He expects you to work all the HW problems at least twice and there's at least 50 per every 3 chapters. He likes to crack jokes, but it's not funny when he's doing a grade breakdown and the class average is a 54. Just avoid any Physics at State.
Worthy is a harsh teacher. He gives hardly any examples to explain the concepts and expects students to be able to understand all the information at the exact moment he teaches it. He does not respond to questions unless with rude replies. His tests are difficult as he grades very hard and hardly gives half credit. I would not take his course.
Physics sucks no matter who you take it with. Worthy tries his best to help you out with the homework and doing a review before the test. You may not like his personality but in order to pass, go to class and his office hours. There no study guides for his tests either. Go to the lab too, that's the easiest part and it helps your grade.
I was worried about taking physics at MSU, but Mark Worthy became one of my favorite teachers this semester. The class is very hard, and you WILL have to work for a decent grade. However, he is an excellent teacher and clearly has a passion for what he does. He gives a lot of homework, but this means by test time you will know how to do it.
Mark. Worthy. Is a decent lecturer, but a terrible person. If you go to his office hours you will come out feeling incompetent and less prepared than before. During quarantine, he was no help in changing with the world. He likes physics and doesn't like anything else.
Makes physics about as easy as it can get. You still have to work for it though.
Loved physics 2 with him. He gives great examples that help you remember things. Will work out homework problems, and the homework is great practice for the test. I learned a lot in this class and recommend him to anybody who wants to learn physics. Be ready to take lots of notes.
If you do not already know physics, do not take his class. He assumes you know everything before the class even begins. He expects you to ask questions and participate but, if he doesn't like the question he won't answer it. He will embarrass you if you get an answer wrong. I would not recommend at all.
A little rough around the edges, but will help you. Just be brave enough to ask for him to do a homework problem youre struggling with and this class will be your easiest.
Great professor. He explains things well.
A very difficult teacher who is not the nicest. If you dont do well on the first test he pretty much tosses you aside and tells you to drop the class.
If you have to take physics at MSU, Worthy is probably your best choice. He can be a bit condescending at times, but he is a really great teacher.
Would not take again! His teaching is very complicated! It can be very smug and a bit disrespectful. If I had the opportunity I would not take him again. He throws a lot of shade and is very condescending. He makes you feel stupid for asking the simple question. Personally avoid him at all cost!
Physics at Mississippi state is pretty rough, but Worthy is probably your best option. He is a good teacher, but he can seem rude at times.
not sure why this man has such a low rating, he's great! I personally thought he was hilarious and teaches better than any other professor in physics department here at msu. the whole department is a joke but he makes me believe different.
Don't go to class-won't pass. Not a morning person, get him the latest time option possible.
I took the Honors course with Professor Worthy. I missed the second full week of school due to my grandmother passing away. Not only did Worthy require me to turn in homework the day of her graveside service, but he was very disrespectful through email. Made a 36 on the first test and he said I had a
He's a really great professor as long as you put in the effort to do well in the class. I didn't pay as much attention as I should have and received a low grade in the class, which was completely on me. He's really interactive and assigns quite a bit of homework that's entirely to your benefit. Use your notes and homework as an opportunity to grow.
Worthy's a cheerful guy who does his best to make lectures engaging. He can seem condescending at times and isn't the best at accommodating special circumstances, but he does a great job of explaining concepts.
Go to class! Lectures are not posted anywhere. He gets off on tangents a lot while teaching. He can be VERY belittling to students and will have a bad attitude. If you need help in or outside of class, prepare for some snarky comments from him. He does OK lecturing, but homeworks and the online text is the only shot of doing well on tests.
As someone who never took Physics in highschool I got better at it as time passed. He made the lectures fun with demonstrations and talked alot about real world examples. Expect to study alot. Overall good experience.
Worthy does a good job at making his lectures enjoyable and explaining problems from the HW. There is a lot of HW, and it will consume a lot of your time. Go to SI, it can be very helpful to see problems from class a 2nd time. His tests are reasonable and are not overly difficult. Go to class, he does not post his lectures anywhere at all.
You will have homework roughly every other day in this class, excluding the factor of any multiple-part questions. He does teach well but skips over things and is not always willing to go over certain things again. This is the only class I did not make an A in.
He is a great lecturer and really wants his students to know physics. He's not a very sympathetic guy whatsoever, so try not to take any crude remarks personally. He does great examples for the students and can be pretty funny. The class is very challenging and he does his best to prepare you for the tests. There is also a ton of homework.
As others said, Worthy doesn't really care if you do well, but he does do a good job at teaching physics. If you want to learn physics well and have an easier time in PHY 2 or Statics etc, take him, if you want an easy grade, take someone else.
Dr. Worthy is an incredible teacher. His lectures are very concise and will not hesitate to go over any homework problems that you might have. You will have to come to class to get the notes, as they are not posted anywhere else. He is a very funny man who makes learning difficult subjects easier.
He is very passionate about the subject and does many demonstrations in class. Much of the class is working out confusing hw questions which really helps with the material. There is a LOT of homework, around 2-3 assignments per chapter, but the tests come from the hw so it's to your advantage. He is probably the best option you have for physics.
Best physics 1 prof you're gonna get. He tries to make lectures as interactive as possible. Best advice for test is to rework the hw.
Worthy is a straight shooter. He knows a lot, and expects students to put work in to do the same. There is lots of homework, but it is very helpful in understanding the material. The book is important because there is material from the book that will be on the test. He also loves to show examples during lectures which are very helpful.
Take Physics 1 at community college. DO NOT take it at MSU. Worthy is extremely rude and condescending and does not care about his students My first day of class he said that most of us are going to make an F. AVOID PHYSICS AT MSU AT ALL COST.
He's the best Physics 1 professor available at Mississippi State University. That being said, he's pretty rude and condescending, and will take so much time during lectures ranting about random topics with tangential connection to the lectures or about how we will fail the test if we don't do X, Y, or Z. Take for Physics 1, but avoid otherwise.
Great professor! Gets some negative feedback, but that's just because physics is very difficult. Graded on HW, 3 tests, and a final. You must rework the homework and put in lots of study time to succeed, but that is just for physics in general! Worthy did a ton of HW problems in class and demonstrations, which helped understand the material.
Listen physics here is not easy look up the fail rate: MSU Public Grade Destitution. He teaches so well. His lectures are well drawn out and executed well. He is always angry and is always annoyed with slow people. Prepare yourself and study every night. I failed once and passed with him. He is for sure your best option in PH2213. Wagner is great 2
He is the best we've got but that's not saying much. Okay, genuinely he explained the material and answered questions. I also MUCH prefer his pacing over the other professors'. He can just be a little abrasive at times. If you can take him, take him.
I had him for PH 2 and he was great! I did well in that class and came into PH 3 feeling good. That was wrong. He sucks at teaching circuits as he hasn't in several years so there were many mistakes and he forgot how to.
He teaches like those youtube professors as in he loves to bring
Teaching style resembles that of a cynical TED talk host. Final is cumulative and this class covers more material than other classes every year.
Loves to belittle students and joke about students failing. Does not seem to care about his students at all. I asked for help on a few complicated homework questions and he just said "I already covered this material," did not help. I literally got a separate textbook and a tutor just to scrape by. Had to call a tutor just to complete the homework.
Explains concepts very well, not the most welcoming environment for asking questions as he will answer in such a way that makes you feel kind of stupid (because he is so intelligent). There was a lot of homework in Pearson, the test bank was practically pulled from the homework assignments and textbooks. If you study that A LOT, you'll do fine.
I have NEVER nearly failed a class, but this class did me in. I ended Physics I and II with high A's and studied the exact same way for this class but could not do well on a test to save my life. His lectures are all over the place, his test questions are not like the homework, and he is not approachable when you have questions.
PLEASE TAKE PHYSICS AT A COMMUNITY COLLEGE. Worthy is your best choice for Physics 1, but he's still terrible. Will "go over homework" before class but not the problems that were actually difficult. Does not foster an environment for you to ask questions. I used to cry over Bs in classes and I'm just hoping to pass this one at this point.
Quintessential professor for the PH department to my knowledge, but really abrasive. He lectures pretty well, and I enjoy tangential but applicable topics he sometimes comments on. That said, he has an entrenched attitude about his teaching: there are stupid questions and doing the minimum, even with good grades, will get you no respect from him.
Make sure to redo the homework before the exams, a lot of his test questions are pulled from there. Do not wait until the last minuet to study.
If you can take Physics anywhere else- do it. Mark Worthy is very rude, demeaning, and doesn't like to actually help. Instead of actually explaining how to avoid doing something wrong, he just says "75% of you will get this wrong." If you have a lot going on outside of school (work, internship, personal things), you will struggle.
Worst teacher I have ever took the day of the final he brought a box of tissues and said these are for when you start crying go with any other teacher for sure
worthy is very uncaring and indifferent to you and your grades. he knows his stuff and is ok at teaching you it, however he is strict on his grading and will take off points for anything and everything he can.
The man could lighten up a bit. While he knows his stuff in terms of the lecturing, the test grading is as abrasive as it gets. Prepare to put forth 40+ hours of wretched studying for each unit test, rework each homework until complete mastery, and read each miscon question. This will merely be what saves your A in here.
Dr. Worthy is a very critical, hard to please professor. He has a lack of approachability that tends to make this course even more difficult. Do not expect any extra credit or hints to success. He will openly tell you he expects you to mess up/perform badly. NOTE: The lab portion of this class is required for credit but bares no credit in itself.
This was horrible enough until Dr. Worthy said withdrawals will be common. Dr. Worthy couldn't care less if 90% of the class makes a F. He also said most will do so anyway. Keep out.
Makes the tests extremely difficult and takes points off for every little thing. Homework is too long and includes topics that aren't covered in class. When you ask questions, he is more worried about telling you that you are wrong than explaining how to correctly do the problem. I got an A in Gen Phys 1&2. Failed his tests so bad I had to drop.
Dudes goated. I'm not sure what these reviews are but I took him for honors physics and he was very good at answering questions. He was also pretty funny during class during his tangents. He can be course but thats just his personality.
He rocks and anyone that tells you otherwise is too sensitive and never played sports. If you aren't a panzy he's the guy for you
One of my favorite professors I took this semester. He can come across as standoffish and abrasive at first, but if you go to his office hours and demonstrate a desire to work hard and do well in the course, you will find he has a soft spot. If you go to class and spend time working the homework problems YOURSELF, you will do well.
