Tests EXTREMELLY hard. Willing to help you outside of class. Notes all on powerpoint. Attendance not taken - but I highly reccomend you go so you can understand what is going on!
If you listen in class and take the notes (all on powerpoint which are accesible from his website) you shouldn't have much of a problem. Plus he is always willing to help you outside of class.
This class is not hard, as long as you go to class on a regular basis. Attendance is not taken, but he does add some things into his notes that aren't on the website. Very helpful inside and outside of class. Usually gives a whole class period to questions before the tests.
Doesn't take attendance, and the PowerPoints are on the website, but if you don't go to class, don't expect to make any higher than a C. If you go to class, but don't study, you can pull an easy B. You WILL have to study to get an A, as his tests are HARD, but he is awfully helpful. Talks on a high level, too.
This prof is awesome, and you can tell he must be a total deadhead outside of class. He seems to have this strange reverence for Jerry Garcia!?! Take any and every class you can with him.
Dr. Yates is an awesome teacher who i highly recommend. For lack of a better term, Marc Yates is the man.
knows his stuff; great teaching voice; subject matter isn't always interesting (in gen. psych.); doesn't take roll; somewhat hard tests; a few homework assignments throughout the semester; hardly ever lets out early; willing to help; very nice; proffesional
If you read the book & go to class you will be set. Most of the stuff is easy & he explains it very well. Very attractive & a great voice... so easy to follow ;)
He can explain things a million different ways. He is incredibly smart and takes the time to help all students. I definitely recommend Dr. Yates.
Dr Yates was great... has very well organized Powerpoints and is good at giving examples in his lectures... Know your stuff because the tests are no walk in the park... but they are definitely managable. I had no problems bc psych is my fave class... but quite a few people in my class struggled. Also, you can drop one test... including the final
TESTS ARE VERY HARD( whether you study or not!) Go to class or you have NO chance in passing! Doesn't take roll and doesn't explain well. He basically reads power points! Lots of memorization, which is useless! A few homework assignments. Drops 1 grade, including final. Pretty boring honestly. Does not peek interest but rather wants you to memorize
His great! take him.
Prof. Yates is a good teacher and his lectures are interesting. His tests are VERY hard. The trick is to use more than one source when you study- I used his power points, my notes, the practice tests in the book, and the SI's study guide and I managed an A. But if you don't want to go to class and pay attention, this is not the class for you.
I LOVE HIM!! HE IS A GREAT PROFESSOR!! He really cares about his students. He is always there to help. I changed my major because of him, he is always on time and organized. He really know his material. He gives 6 exams and drops 2 including the final. Take him, you will have plenty of opportunities to pull up your average like extra credit.
This guy was awesome. He said that before he went to grad school he toured and played with the Dead. This was apparently when Jerry was still alive. He told us a ton of stories about touring with the Dead. Plus he taught us a ton of psych. I can't believe how much I learned about he subject and life. I switched my major to psych cause of him.

Dr Yates is an excellent professor, he answers all questions from those in his class, he is very helpful out of class and I feel like I took away a great deal of knowledge from his class. Just a bit of advice, dont miss class, to get a decent grade you will need to be there everyday, other than that the class is pretty easy.
This class is hard and attendance is mandatory in order to understand the subject matter. However, Dr. Yates does everything he can to make it as clear as possible. The tests are hard, so make sure you study. I have to say again ... you must attend all the classes in order to do well.
Go to class. Definitely read the book. Attendance helps. Tests aren't too hard as long as you pay attention and read. Not a class you'd want to slack on. Gives bonus points. Tries to help you a lot, and material can be interesting.
This class is very hard study is useless if you do not pay attention and ask questions. Doesnt answer them clearly sometimes either. Drops a few grades but unless you are really wanting to stay focuse in this class i suggest you do not take it. Attendance is mandatory he does check!!
He is VERY helpful, wants to see you do well and teaches well. His tests are a beast and the final is a monster. DO well on them, study and do the assignments. He gives lots of extra creit and bonus points so take advantage. Go to class and do your best!
Easy Class!! Rarely Went and still got an A. I just cut up the slides and made study cards out of them. Tests are straight from slides. Gives Extra credit & 2 drop tests(or even drop final) I wouldn't even buy the book.
Tests are straight from lecture notes, and a tiny bit of textbook. Not that necessary to buy book, but it helped me. All lecture slides are on his website, tho he sometimes tells us info not on slides (but warns us). Lots of chances for extra credit (assignments and attendance). Only 3 EASY assignments. Lots of info, but not that hard of class.
good guy, likes to help. completely painfully irrelevant and useless material. Deals more with neurology than psychology. Not for ADD folks. He speaks SO fast it is hard to understand. I attend class everyday and study and still have a D.
Dr. Yates is pretty awesome. His tests can be tricky, but they're very fair. This is the easiest upper level class I've taken thus far; attendance isn't required but recommended, there's no real homework (just these little online activities), there's a little bit of extra credit, and there are 5 tests but the lowest score gets dropped. Take Yates.
Buy the book, it's essential. Do your best on the first test, you get a drop test grade but the final is ridiculous. Go to class, lecture matters even though there are powerpoints. go to review days and ask questions, or you're doomed to a C.
Great teacher! attendance is mandatory but he is a great professor and knows what he is doing!! Take him...although he does put a lot of emphasis on use of textbook but hey! It does a lot good..
He is extremely knowledgeable and a good teacher. Is very passionate about his subject and knows the answers to all questions thrown at him. You must have a clicker, attendance is mandatory. Tests are difficult, as they apply the principles learned in the lectures.
Very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. You don't have to go to class but you should, and buy the book. You'll need it. It's a lot of information but his tests are pretty straight forward. He talks super fast so you really have to pay attention! However, he drops your lowest test grade and 10 easily earned extra points on your next lowest. Take him!
He was so easy! I hardly went to class. The test was common sense examples, defitions, and straight off the slides from the lectures. His powerpoints were all online. He gave bonus along with attendence. You have to have a clicker tho. Super easy class.
Super cool guy, honestly went to class maybe 4 times the entire semester. He doesn't take attendance because the lectures and book and quizzes are ALL online. The only time you truly have to go to class is day 1& the midterm days. I would highly recommend him!
This class was not bad at all. You will need to go to class and take notes. There are online quizzes each week. You have 5 attempts to takes them, and he keeps the highest score. Then there are the midterm and final exams. They are hard, but only have 50 questions. He also gives a scale depending on the class average. I ended up with a 100.
This class was not super hard. Dr. Yates was nice and is willing to help. You must get 8 research participation credits for the class which is fairly easy. There are weekly quizzes based on the book. You have 5 attempts to take them, and the highest grade is kept. There are only 2 exams. Both have 50 questions are somewhat difficult, but he scales.
Yates truly is a phenomenal teacher and is extremely passionate about Psychology. My class was blended onlinelecture and there were only 2 tests and an online quiz for each chapter. If you read the book and know his powerpoints, it's an easy A. His lectures are really entertaining too.
I would not recommend taking Dr. Yates . All he does is lecture and test. All of his test consist of scenarios and if you are failing the class your just not doing good because unless you make an appointment with him during office hours he doesn't care to help. Even when you go to his office he still isn't helpful on how to do better in his class.
Love his lectures. It's obvious he enjoys what he does and wants to help you. If you go to class and read the book, you'll be fine.

Dr. Yates is a great guy and really loves Psychology. But his class was AWFUL. He requires research credits which are super easy please do it, it will help in the long run. All he does is test, and his test are very hard! The questions are all scenario like questions. I went to every class printed off his notes and studied my butt off and made a C.
This was my favorite class at South so far. Super nice guy that enjoys helping. He gives extra credit opportunities and a generous curve on the final exam. Go to class and study and you will do fine. It's really not that hard.

Awesome guy and course. You will need to study, but that is true of any class. There are 6 tests and a final exam that counts as two scores. He lets you drop your two lowest exam scores. There are only two chapters per test, so the material is more than manageable. Easy, Easy. He is also generous with extra credit and the curve on the final.
Took this class online. Was a great class and an easy A. Do the readings, listen to the lectures and take the chapter tests. Not bad. Would definitely recommend.
Took this class online. Was a great class and an easy A. Do the readings, listen to the lectures and take the chapter tests. Not bad. Would definitely recommend.
Go to class and take notes on his lectures because he says things that aren't in the book or on the PowerPoint that will turn into test questions. Apparently he's hard but I didn't have any trouble with him. I read, made flashcards, and studied two nights before a test and I got all A's. He drops a test grade.
Cognition Psych is one of the most difficult classes for a psychology major, and Mark Yates was the best choice I could have made to get through this class. The material can be intense, and he helped explain the material in a way you could understand. Cool online "labs" that are easy points just for completing.
He was very confusing and talks monotone to whole hour. If you asked a question he would go around it and never answer it directly. He does how ever have 8 grades and only takes your best 6 so you get 2 taken off which is nice. He also ended up scaling all of our test because no one was understanding his lessons.
I enjoyed the class. Thinking of changing my major because this class. Lectures were always interesting.
Great class overall. I took it online during the summer and made an A. The tests are on one chapter at a time and you get to take them more than once and keep your high grade. Take him!
Great class and professor. Took the class online in the summer and had no problems. Very organized professor that wants his students to do well. Take him!
Solid professor. Gives good lectures that keep you interested. Attendance is optional, but you do better on his test if you come to class. Explains material well and has no problem answering questions.
Reads through power points and is not helpful. Buying the book is useless because he wrote it. You only get around 6 grades the entire semester.
Dr. Yates is really a great professor! There is no homework, and a good amount of extra credit. Attendance is not mandatory, but it is beneficial to the exams. There are about 6 exams each 40 questions on the chapters he goes over in lecture. If you study and do the work you will be fine. He is also very wiling to help.
Took his online intro class. Really enjoyed it. Would take again. Take this class if you need an intro in the summer.
This class is so hard. The tests are literally horrible. Most of it comes from lectures and power points, but he words his tests so weird. If you can help it, don't take him.
Great professor. Really cares about students. Took his online cog psych class and loved it. PowerPoint are narrated so you can replay the lecture. Take the course in the summer if you can.
Took his online class and did well. Really enjoyed the online lectures. Made it easy to go back if I missed anything.
OK so I took him online I absolutely hated this course simply because it didn't interest me!! You have to read ALOT not just read really UNDERSTAND what your reading because the test are worded a certain way where you would have to know the concept in which their talking about. He is a great professor but that class is sort of tough.
Online- go ahead take him youll make an A. In class- HARDEST class I have ever taken. Tests are terrible and he just says read the book and take notes over and over again if you ask for help. Most of the class had Cs or lower.
Great teacher. Took him for Intro Psych a few semesters ago. Gives lots of tests, but allows you to drop low ones which is awesome.
If you're not a morning person, I definitely wouldn't recommend taking his class then because you would fall asleep. I'm not saying he is the worst but it is kind of hard to focus if you can't stay woke.
Great professor. Really into psychology. Drops two lowest grades. Study a bit and u will be fine.
Prof Yates is very caring and passionate about what he teaches. He also teaches very good, and reviews the last class, in the next one. I enjoyed this class a lot, but the tests are insanely hard. I'd feel like I knew the material well, but I'd fail the test, along with everyone else in the class.
He is a very nice guy and if you go and meet with him he will help the best he can. His tests are very hard but I had to learn new study methods and I improved a letter grade on the tests almost every time. Is a good teacher but I wouldnt take him again because his tests are hard.
Probably the best professor I have had and I really enjoyed his class. His tests are pretty difficult but if you thoroughly study the materials, you will do great. He really cares for his students and is reasonable as well. His voice is monotone but it's bearable.
I did not enjoy this class at all and in no way recommend taking it. He was a very tough grader and his tests were all worded weird and they were so confusing. No one in the class felt like they understood what was going on.
Great online class. Lectures r all online so u can go back and listen if you want. Easy A.
He drops your 2 lowest test grades, which can be the final, so if you have a good grade you don't even have to take the final. And he gives an easy 15 point extra credit assignment that is added to your lowest test grade after he drops the lowest 2.
Prof. Yates was a good teacher. He knows his stuff and cares about his students. He has 6 exams and a final that counts at 2 exam grades, but you get to drop two exam grades so if you do well through the semester you don't have to take the final! His tests come from power-point material. You also have to complete lab credits. Overall good teacher!
Yates is a great professor that knows his material well. He is willing to explain almost any question, but be sure to go over the notes outside of class and study for the exams. He drops your two lowest exam grades, but remember to do well on as many as you can because exams are 90% of your grade, and the other 10% is participating in lab studies.
I didnt like this class at the beginning of the semester. Its tough to get a good grade and maintain it because there are only 6 test grades and the research credits. However, he is a really good teacher! i recommend definitely studying the powerpoints and making sure you thoroughly understand the content!
He is a great teacher. Attendance is not mandatory, but if you want to make an A/B, you have to show up and write lecture notes. I recommend printing the power points before class, and just following along highlighting and writing extra notes. You have to study, and his tests are thorough.
Overall a really good teacher and knows his stuff. Doesn't take roll, but GO TO CLASS! It helps a lot! Recommends reading the book, but I never used it so I wouldn't buy it. Don't expect to not study for tests and pull off an A. Drops your 2 lowest test grades or the final. Have to do research credits as well. Tends to talk fast and quiet.
I liked the concepts about psychology! You can tell he knows a lot about psych & loves the subject, BUT hes very monotone and made me super sleepy in the morning! He also wrote the book you use in class so that sounds just like him. Tests are also extremely wordy! He does give you the choice of dropping your lowest test grade or taking the final.
I never used the textbook even though it was required. Dr. Yates wrote it, but his lecture videos cover the majority of the chapter he is talking about. There were quizzes after each chapter, but they weren't due until the end of the semester. Because of Covid, there was no final exam.
He is a great professor and goes very in detail about everything taught. There is a lot of material thrown at you at once and it is very fast paced, but if you study hard you will successfully pass!
Very monotone and not great for the morning. If you get stuck with him because of your freshmen seminar, just get a different psychology prof. lectures are very fast paced and very sporadic. I do think he loves what he does and knows what he teaches, but he has a tendency to be hyper and tiring.
Do not take Yates for psychology 120. The exams were based off of 2 chapters each and each chapter was 100 slide PowerPoint. You have no idea what was on each test and it was extremely hard to pass
Yates is a great teacher. You do have to come to class and take notes, but if you do that and study them, you shouldn't have a problem. It's honestly not that hard of a class compared to the others I had.
The grading is mostly from tests so if you do good on those you will pass. He gave us two bonus on each test. He pulls questions from the lectures so if you take good notes and pay attention you will do fine. He also had some little assignments to boost grades.
Took him for PSY 120 online in the summer. Great class. Let's you work at your pace. Really helped with trying to juggle my other classes and work schedule. Will take him again if possible.
Prof. Yates was a good man, passionate about psych. But so monotone and lectures super fast. His test were super hard for no reason. You can come to class take notes/read textbooks and still test is super hard. half of my class was failing so half of them had to dropped. First class in my life to ever fail, do not recommend his class
Dr. Yates really likes psyc. You can tell that. He does give a lot of tests, but you get to drop your 2 lowest grades. In the end, with the drops, I did fine.
This class is the first class I will finish with a C in. The grade average on nearly all tests was a 64 (FAILING GRADE) and he offered no curve. The only graded assignments were the exams (on 3-4 chapters with no stated material beforehand) and COGLAB scores. I put in HOURS of studying and still consistently earned poor grades.
Great class. Made me reconsider what I wanted to do with my psych degree. Tests are hard but you can drop the lowest grade (including final). 15 percent of your grade is a guaranteed A if you complete the Coglab. Material is tough but Yates is good at explaining it. Willing to help outside of class if you talk to him.
I picked up this class last minute for the May term (total class length was about 2 weeks & 4 days). I had heard this was a hard & boring class and while it was hard I still thoroughly enjoyed it. If I wasn't set on what I want to do with my degree, this class could've changed my mind. He is a great professor and it very knowledgeable on this info.
LOVE LOVE LOVE this class. Seriously considering changing my major to Psy. You do have to study, but tests are fair and you drop your 3 lowest grades. Lots of free points also included in grade.
TERRIBLE. Not good for a freshman, so monotone and boring
Not bad. Have to study. Willing to help outside if class on how to study. Would take again.
Professor Yates was by far my favorite professor. I really think he was made to teach because his lectures are so helpful and he elaborates on everything. He always stays back a few minutes after class in case anyone has questions and is very willing to help you with study tips to do good on tests if you ask. no homework
Loved this class online. Having the lectures recorded and available on day one really helped. You also work at your own pace. Wish all my psych courses were like this one.
Professor Yates I believe would be a great professor for a higher level class, but in psych120, he was extremely hard. He teaches very fast and the only grades are 5 tests and research credit. If you are not the best test taker it is very hard to get your grade up. There is no homework, just to study what he discussed in class, which is difficult.
Take this class online. Low stress. You get multiple attempts on exams. Lectures are all recorded and available day one. You move at your own pace. Will take Yates for as many Psych classes as possible.
Took the course online and enjoyed it. Really liked how everything was there on day one and we could work at our own pace. Get to redo quizzes and he keeps the better score. Great summer class.
had this class online in the summer. was def the way to go. move at your own pace and everything is there on day one. really helped with being able to do as my schedule allowed. wish all online classes were this way.
Not a bad summer class. Can move at your pace and you get multiple attempts at online exams. Recommended.
BEST. SUMMER. CLASS. EVER. He gives you everything on day one and it's not due until the end of the semester. This helped so much with my schedule. Wish he taught other classes I need in the summer.
Dr. Yates himself is interesting and very caring. However, the class is extremely hard. It's a very fast paced course and can be difficult to keep up. Only graded on 4 tests, the exam, coglabs (just participation), and one bonus activity. I'd recommend it if you're willing to STUDY and study hard.
Took his cognition course in the summer. Goes out of the way to make sure everything is up and running one day one. Really helped fit the course inwith my work schedule.
Dr. Yates is a great professor. I learned so much in his class. He really cares about his students and will meet to discuss how to prepare for his exams. The study tips I learned in his class helped in other classes. If I were a psy major I would take him for as many classes as possible.
Great guy willing to help, but ya'll I am NOT a psych major I took this course as an elective, thinking it would be easy. I failed just about every test might lose my scholarship over a class I don't even need. He doesn't give any work JUST tests so you better study. I failed even when I studied... this class really affected my mental health.
Pretty easy class really. I didnt read the book. Just went to class. Messed up on the first test. Went to see him and he helped explain how to study. Really helped my grade. A LARGE amount of your pounts come from simply participating in studies.
This professor does not assign homework or quizzes he only has test grades he straight-lectures the whole class. I don't receive material like that, but if you are good with just taking a test on 2 chapters every two weeks, you should be good.
Not a bad class or prof at all. Go to class and study and you'll be fine. A huge chunk of your grade is just participating in lab studies. Easiest class I had this fall.
Mr. Yates was a great professor. He is very knowledgeable about psychology and always willing to help you understand anything. He does lecture the whole class about the slides but gives good info. You have to go to class & read to do well on the exams which are your only grades in the class plus the research participation, which is really easy.
Great online course. Move at your own pace. Made it easy to balance other classes and work schedule. Very understanding. Can't go wrong.
If you're interested in psyc. already then, you'll love this class with Dr. Yates. He is very straightforward, tests exactly from the lecture, goes into detail and gives examples in interesting ways, and is respectful and insightful in answering questions. Personally, I would recommend re-writing notes from his lecture as a way to study best.
Awesome class and prof. He gives you all the material on day one and lets you work at your own pace. Such a lifesaver given my other classes and work schedule.
Great summer class. Much prefer to take the PSY 416 course this way. THe prof puts all info up the first day and u move at ur own pace. Would take again.
enjoyed this online summer class and the flexibility. highly recommend. moving at your own pace is a huge bonus. especially if you have other summer courses or a job/life.
Yates is a great professor and you can tell he's very passionate about what he's teaching! He is very lecture-heavy and moves quickly. I had to start recording his lectures and playing them back when studying and taking notes. I will say I had to work my butt off for the A I received though.
All he did was lecture and only grades put in were 6 test throughout the semester, we dont have any actual assignments. His teaching style is not my favorite considering he is only ready off a slide show and not really teaching.
The only grades put in are test grades with that being 6 throughout the year. I am not the biggest fan of his teasing technique considering all he does is read off of a slideshow which I can do on my own.
Best class I've had. 20 percent of your grade are research studies that you make an A on if you just participate. There are a lot of tests. Drops lowest 3 out of 8. Really takes the pressure off if you have a bad day. Highly recommended.
Lots of tests but they only cover a couple of chapters. Very doable. Drops 3 so you can have an off day. Lots of easy researchcredit points.
Lectures are interesting and keep u engaged. Lots of test but they only cover a chapter or two. Can drop 3 low grades. Lots of your grade is based on research participation. Easy A for that. Will take again for other psych courses.
Professor Yates is VERY knowledgeable in the subject. He is extremely lecture-heavy. If you attend class and take good notes everything on the exams is covered in the lecture. He does give drop grades but your final grade is dependent upon exam grades and 12 hours of research participation. He was very nice and answered all my questions.
Only six total grades in this class, exams only. His exams are extremely difficult, and do not have any way to study. Each class is a lecture off over 100 slides, and his exams are based off of the slides he gives, which is over 200. No way to study. No way to participate. Not easy to keep up or pass.
Great professor. Knows his stuff. You will have to study. GO TO CLASS. He adds lots to the PowerPoints that ends up on test. You won't pass if you don't go to class and take notes.
Only lectures never gives any assignments to help you understand. Lectures the entire class time which covers 100ish slides each time. There are 6 exams and it is almost impossible to study for them.
Not a bad class if you are willing to go to class and study. I learned a lot. Lots of tests but doesn't cover but a couple of chapters so they are manageable.
Enjoyed the class but you have to study to do well. Also go to class. I didn't for one test and I bombed it. He adds lots to the notes that you need to be there to get. Feel like I learned a lot. Grade is really improved by the 20 % bump we get front the research studies.
Dr. Yates is an amazing Psych-120 professor. You need to come ready to study and know how to apply material to situations. Dr. Yates is very open to helping his students learn how to build study habits and understands that Psych is not your only class.
Dr. Yates is an AMAZING professor, BUT you actually have to focus in his class!!! If you can't take good notes then this is NOT THE CLASS FOR YOU!!! like I mean really good notes.. and this class is also really boring;))
His teaching style is hard to follow.
Yates is a great professor who makes the material engaging. Lectures are fast-paced, but recording them and using Unstuck ai for study prep helps a lot. Get the textbook and attend class - you'll do well.
Took this class online in summer. Easy class where you work at your own pace. Helps that lectures are recorded and you can replay them until you get it.
It was a chill class no assignments only lab participation and exams. However the exams were extremely difficult and I went to office hours to receive help and was told to study better. The exams cover many chapters, basically if you don't do good on the exams you will fail.
Took online last summer. Very manageable class. Dr Yates is very understanding of students time.he has the whole class ready when course starts and you move at your pace. Looking to take another with him this summer.
Easy A. Took online in summer. Not bad on the work, multiple attempts on tests, could complete at my pace. Can't go wrong with this one.
Took online. Not bad at all. Can take quizzes more than once and high grade is used. Just get them done by the end of semester and your good.
Yates seems nice but as a professor? Yikes. Exams make up almost all your grade and everyone does terribly. He says to read the chapters but they're useless because you only need his slides. Even then, the tests feel impossible. Save your sanity and avoid this class.
Yates is a great professor. There are lots of tests, but you can drop your three lowest ones. Also, about 20 percent of your grade is research participation. All u have to do for that is show up. Helps pull test grades up a lot.
Dr. Yates knows his stuff. His lectures are interesting, but you have to pay attention. Don't really need the book. Take good notes and study and you will be fine. You do have to study regularly as he gives lots of tests. You get to drop your 3 low scores. DO THE RESEARCH. It really helps pull grades up.
He's amazing at teaching, but his tests make ZERO sense. Previous students have said his tests were easy, so maybe he changed something about them. But the majority of my class made below a C on each test, and almost all of us failed at least one. There's no homework, so tests are your whole grade. I wish I listened when told to take this online.
Great teacher. Knows his stuff. Lots of testing, but you drop your 3 worse. Plus 20% of final grade is based on research participation that really brings your grade up. Tests can be difficult. I thought I was going to make a C, but with the research credit looks like I will be making a B if I can hold it together for a couple more weeks.
I was worried at first with his like standoffish attitude but lowkey great once class gets going. Goes pretty fast through stuff so I greatly recommend studying outside of class.
your only grades are exams. there are 6 and the final counts as 2. as a pretty smart parson, who studied ALL the slides & knew ALL the information, i couldn't make higher than a 67.5 on the exams. i dropped along with 6 other people ik in my class that dropped. his only good ratings are for the online class, so save yourself the trouble...
terrible. save yourself the heart ache. no matter how hard you study you WILL fail on all 6 exams which btw are your ONLY grades:)))
worst class i've ever had. known MULTIPLE people who dropped his class. you will feel so defeated bc you study so hard and feel so prepared, just to fail.
Pretty easy class. Grade is NOT based on just exams. Research credits are a huge part of your final grade. I have guaranteed b in the course right now and the research credits are the reason. Go to class, study, DO THE CREDITS and you'll be fine.
Sooo glad I didn't drop this course. Struggled at first, but went to see Dr. Yates, and he really helped me learn how to study. Also, the research credits are a huge help. Seriously they pull your grade up A LOT.
The only grades are the exams and the research participation. If you think you know it, you probably don't. His lectures are just hard to listen to and he reads right off of the slides.
Yates is a great teacher. My favorite class by far. Exams do require you to study but you can drop your three lowest which helps. Research credit also helps a lot. I have a B average in exams, but research will bring up to an A. Only need to take the final exam if you need it to pull your grade up.
His Tests are difficult and he words his exams with a higher level of vocabulary. Attendance is not required, but if you don't go to class, you will not do well. You will think you did better than you actually did. There are office hours to talk to him, but he doesn't help in any way if you are struggling. Only take this class if you need too.
Great lectures. Tests can be difficult if you don't study. I had to meet with Dr. Yates to change my study habits. Went from failing to making good grades. Luckily you can drop 3 of your lowest 8 grades or I would have been toast. Do the research credits. Easy A for 1/5 of your final grade.
Lots of tests but you can you drop a few. Go to class and take notes or you will struggle.
Great professor and class. You will have to earn your grade in this class. I studied like crazy to get an A. I feel like I learned so much in this class. Meeting with Dr. Yates really helped. He even helped me plan how to study for other classes.
Nice guy. Super flexible. Drops lowest three out of 8 grades. Research credits count big. Do well early and you can skip the final exam.
He's an amazing teacher & incredibly smart, you can tell he loves what he does, but his class is tough for freshmen. His lectures are great!! But are on a very advanced level, and your whole grade comes from exams & research participation ONLY (My only complaint). Be ready to study very very hard but it feels SOO rewarding when you pass his tests!
Professor Yates doesn't play around. You have to work. But if you do the work you will pass. Lectures are interesting, but come ready to take notes. Feel like I learned more in this class than all my others.
This professor is AWFUL. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. I feel as if I'm decently smart and I could not make higher than a 65 on any of his exams. They are made very difficult and barely reflect the notes. All he does is lecture and his lectures are on the notes that are already given to you. He doesn't teach. No amount of studying helped.
Attendance is not required, and he gives the notes ahead of time. DON'T let that fool you. Go to class , and take notes. He adds so much to the slides. Do that and study a little. Easy A. And do the research credits. They are worth a huge part of your grade and are gimme points.
