Avoid Marko at all costs, it is a shame for the Foster School of Business to have this professor teach here. He reads out of the book, doesn't provide insightful information, and was a waste of my tuition money. I didn't learn anything valuable in this class and I tried my best, I understand that we are in COVID-19, but this is a shame.
Marko is hands down the worst professor I've had at UW and honestly one of the worst teachers I've ever had, period. He is extremely unorganized, a poor communicator, and doesn't provide students with extra practice outside of lectures and hw. He is truly a disgrace to this University and definitely a disgrace to Foster. Avoid him at all costs.
One of the worst professors I have ever had, if not the worst. Confusing lectures, unorganized, useless quiz sections. For a class that is already confusing enough, Marko makes it so much worse. Very sad that Marko is associated with Foster.
This class definition of a horror show. Lectures were so unorganized; most of the important material would never be taught. There are no opportunities to review in the quiz section because of the activities and quizzes; be prepared to learn yourself. To top it all off, any time a question is asked, he just tells you to attend office hours. WOW!
I really wanted to like Marko, but I simply could not. He is confusing, contradictory, and doesn't focus on the important information which made me feel lost during all the lectures. This is the only class which I have ever thought I might fail, even though I studied an above-average amount. The first couple of quizzes caught me entirely off guard!
This class is easily the most frustrating, inconsistent course I've taken at UW. The homework submissions times change weekly and are graded on correctness (only one submission). Marko brushes over lecture examples with minimal explanation and displays all of the previously written work at one time. Even Khan Academy can't save you :/
By far the worst professor I've ever had at UW. Marko doesn't provide any in depth explanations of the material and expects students to understand while providing confusing and complicated material that is extremely difficult. Quiz sections are just tests and useless activities. Even the best students do poorly in this class, avoid like the plague.
I am a very patient person and tried to give Marko the benefit of the doubt, but he only inhibited my learning. The content isn't hard, but his lack of organization, refusal to answer questions, and hours wasted avoiding the true content in lecture is what made the course hard. Be ready to teach yourself, because quiz section is a waste as well.
DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASS WITH MARKO. Lectures are unorganized, confusing, and rushed. You will have to teach yourself all course content but it doesn't even matter because he will throw curveballs on the quizzes. Seriously it is shameful of Foster to have such a class taught this way while students are PAYING for it. Avoid at all costs.
By far the worst professor I've ever had. Head and shoulders above the next hardest class I've taken. It's not even that statistics as a course topic was difficult, it was Marko's way of teaching. He's a very smart individual but does not know how to teach. Quiz sections were absolutely useless for what you are going to end up being tested on.
There is so much studying by yourself if you want to do well in the class so definitely get the book. Marko will only teach you the basics and expects you to be an expert by the time of the test. Probably gonna be the first failed class. Great person, terrible teacher
This class is well presented and organized. Lectures are great, with ample explanation of course content and walkthrough of relevant practice problems. While initially hard, quizzes and exams become easy by doing his recommended textbook problem sets and his practice exams. He is easy to access and helpful outside of class during office hours.
Avoid him if you can. He teaches out of the textbook, and it's like having text-to-speech reading you the textbook every lecture. Homework is graded on accuracy, and he doesn't go that deep into the topics in class, so office hours are a must if you want a clue as of what to do. I wish this wasn't mandatory for Fosters, but it is.
This class was somehow a bigger disaster than the 2021 UW basketball team. Poor lectures, confusing course material, and very unorganized. Avoid Marko.
He is NOT a good professor, lectures are long, all over the place. There are a few quizzes, midterm, and final. He does not give you anything to prepare for the tests, which is so annoying because you can study one thing, but then the test looks completely different. If you can, please try to take this class with someone else.
I have really enjoyed my time in this class. He makes the material pretty easy to understand, and is super patient when answering questions. Overall, he is a pretty solid choice for qmeth201. I don't recommend skipping class, you'll miss out on the practice problems that give better understanding. He's kind of a slow grader though
Concepts are not too hard, tests are absurd. No asynchronous option for quiz sections, and offers little flexibility. Severely unorganized - told us to submit our work for credit after our quiz sessions ended, but mine ended late and the assignment had closed. Emailed it in, and while it was accepted, was told it was my fault and no more leniency.
I don't know why the other reviews are so negative. My experience with Marko has been nothing but positive thus far. His lectures aren't the most fun, but definitely clear and you get everything you need from the lectures. He was flexible when I forgot to turn in assignments, and gave good clarification through email. He is a kind, great professor.
Professor Marko is actually a solid choice for stats. While the structure of the class may not be the usual of reviewing concepts in quiz sections, Professor Marko is always to explain/answer questions during his office hours. His lectures are confusing at first, but the practice problems really help. Overall, not a bad choice for stats!
The problem with this class is that you will not learn anything from Marko. He knows what he's talking about, but unfortunately, YOU won't know what he's talking about - he is not a very good teacher. This means that anyone with AP Stats experience will slaughter the class and run the top quiz scores, resulting in the WORST curve I have seen at UW.
Although unpopular, I found the class to be reasonable. As mentioned, it's a difficult class but if you put in the work, you'll do well. Curved to a 3.1.
Marko's lectures tended to be rushed in the end (crammed a lot of material before quizzes and exams), so be sure to read the textbook beforehand and take notes before the lecture. He was really good with email, helpful during office hours, and wanted people to succeed. Not a challenging course if you put in the work.
Honestly Marko gets a much worse reputation than he deserves. Hes a wonderful guy and is always willing to help his students, which is nice when his material can sometimes be difficult to pick up. His class doesnt have a lot of points to get, but its an easy A if you engage in the work.
He such a harsh grader.. I understood the criteria very well but did poor in the class only because he grades so harshly on exams and quizzes. Also, the curve in the class is non existent.. avoid this teacher at all costs!
Prof Madunic clearly cares about his students. One of the nicest Foster profs I've met. His lectures can be a bit confusing, but if you apporach him, he will devote time to actually help you. He wants his students to succeeed and tries hard to ensure that. It was a hard class for me but his tutoring got me and my friends through it. Great guy.
Lectures were online so only had to attend quiz sections once a week. Very nice but class was very difficult.
I took AP stats the previous year so that helped me a lot. His lectures can get boring and he goes slow on less important stuff and fast on stuff you want to take notes on. I would rewatch the lectures (1 hr per lecture)! He is a really nice and understanding guy. All quizzes and exams get a cheat sheet which make them so easy and not as stressful.
the class is boring but tough. the grading is harsh on exams and quizzes. the final grade is horrible too (curved down afaik). only positive thing: prof. Madunic is willing to help over emails
this class was very difficult but not impossible. professor madunic was very helpful and willing to help his students as much as possible. quizzes were good reflections of the content but the exams were extremely difficult. if you put the effort in learning the content in the content the class isn't that bad but the curve is absolutely terrible.
Instead of going over certain problems by writing them out, he would show the solutions next slide, explain them in a very hard way to understand, and repeat all problems. If you are not caught up, you will need to rewatch the lectures online to fully understand the concepts.
Marko is a decent instructor but the class was quite difficult. His explanation during lecture wasn't clear and made things more confusing than it needed to be. Quiz sections are composed of excel assignments and group work which isn't useful at all. Quizzes were within reasonable difficulty but exams are tough. Khan academy will be your bestfriend
Honestly, he gets a worse rep than he deserves. Marko comes across as knowledgeable about the topic and goes into good detail. Every quiz section was either a graded project or quiz, which sucked. Tests and quizzes weren't too hard and homework was reasonable. Textbook definitely not required, despite it technically being part of the class.
Marko's a cool dude, OH are where it's at. Lectures aren't necessary to do well. He doesn't allow electronics in class unless you have DRS accommodations. Formula sheet (front and back) for quizzes and exams (2 full pages for final). Group activities during quiz section were dumb though. Also his accent makes it hard to understand him sometimes.
He is over-hated. His lectures are clear and concepts are not too hard. Exams were SO EASY. Group activities are dumb and make your grade suffer. He let me take the exam 3 days after everyone else cause I had two exams on one day and he didn't want me to be too tired. Gave me major/career advice too. Curve is bad tho, I got 95.5, that's a 3.8.
rude asf. makes you feel dumb when you ask a question.
he is just a bad professor
I feel like prof Marko gets a bad review. I disagree with every other opinon. You need to go out of your way, attend OH, ask questions, and participate to get the grade you want. These 3 will help you alot. He is very willing to help and will teach you how to do it rather then give you the answer but you need to reach out for it. Best prof so far.
Prof. Madunic goes over lectures too fast and includes material that was briefly mentioned in the final exams, expecting us to remember.
Tests were very easy so the class has a high curve. I didn't like his lectures very much and he has a tendency to dismiss students when they try to participate in class. Since this class is for business students there is no theory, he just throws a bunch of unintuitive formulas at you. Quiz sections are pointless. Would not take him again.
nice guy tries hard but not the best teacher. Doesn't call on you in class and spends too much time covering not important topics. Expects you to memorize formulas the first time you see them.
Goes very fast but content is not hard. Second half of quarter gets pretty intense because you get a lot of content mixed up but he's very willing to explain things outside of class. Quiz sections are kind of a joke but you need to go for participation. Overall tests were pretty predictable
Nice and approachable guy, but his teaching style sucks. Expects you to print 20 page slides once or twice a week to take notes on in class. It's $2 for one packet. He speeds through content, leaving behind people who don't have the slides printed and need to copy. Also is just really fast in general. Sections are hilariously useless but mandatory.
The best way to take notes was by hand, but he went so quickly through the slides it was difficult to keep up. As someone who has not taken a stats course before, I only managed to stay on top of things by looking up explanations on YouTube and going to OH. Luckily, tests are easy to study for (practice quizzes/problems) and the prof is helpful.
Marko gets a lot of bad reviews but he's really not that bad. He is very caring and will explain things if you're confused. TA's are worthless and are unable to help you, study for everything and you will do fine. You'll only do poorly if you get behind or don't try.
He is a nice professor. A lot of his lectures were long and I usually had to go look back over my notes to understand what we did in class. He can be very confusing at times, I learned to go to TAs for hw help instead of asking him.
I disagree with his tests being easy to study for. Usually practice exams alone are enough for me to get 4.0's in classes, but not this one. The actual midterm was so different from the single practice exam he gave, I'm not even sure what/how to study for the final.
never gives proper definitions and explanations for any concepts, he spends most of his time talking about irrelevant real-world situations that make the content 10x more confusing. have to go to useless lectures to see the answers to example problems because he only posts recorded lectures and answers to class problems 2 days before an exam >:(
Teaching style needs improvement. Often difficult to follow the main points as he can't stick to it himself and often rambles off to something irrelevant. In my experience, this was one of the more challenging/poor quality classes I've taken at Foster. I'd say stay away but he was the only professor offering QMETH 201 for the quarter...
Horrible professor. Does not listen carefully to students when asked questions. Can be very rude sometimes when having 1 on 1 talks. Takes very long to respond to emails. Overall one of the worst teachers I've had. Only take him if you have to and there are no other professors.
Worst professor at uw
Class sucked. Madunic is not a good teacher and you have to go to class because lectures/lecture notes are not accessible online. Homework, quizzes, and group assignments are way easier than tests which makes the tests miserable. Also, you can only write notes on paper no electronic use allowed in lectures.
Incredibly ineffective lecturer, and does not post annotated slides until days or weeks later, which makes teaching yourself tricky. Every single assignment is graded, and it does not feel like you have time to learn the material and make mistakes before it reflects on your grade. Office hours and the TA were also unhelpful.
Marko was not my ideal professor. My ideal professor is one that doesn't absolutely humiliate you for asking a question. That makes nobody want to speak or interact with them.
Decent lecturer, but you NEED to read the textbook before class to understand anything. Attending his office hours is a must for completing the homework. The quizzes and final were fine, but the midterm was really hard. No electronics in class, which was annoying. Also, class recordings and lecture slides were posted infrequently.
Marko may be kind at first but his course structure and policies will make you realize he is the spawn of the devil. Do not take him if you value your happiness.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH THIS TEACHER! He doesn't teach. He just reads off his slides at supersonic spead and you're suppose to understand. I taught myself everything without reading the textbook and had a 93% (including quizzes and assignments) until I took the midterm which was NOTHING like the practice. TAKE THROUGH COMMUNITY COLLEGE ONLINE!!
Genuinely my worst experience with a professor so far. Lectures feel rushed, quiz sections are utterly useless, and it is clear that the students' time is not respected. If you can find a way to take this class without Marko, do it. Every little thing about this class and its structure drives me insane.
Madunic allows you to have cheat sheets on every quiz and exam. While this is great because you don't need to memorize formulas, it means that everyone does well on tests, and the curve ends up hurting you. Divide and conquer for team activities during quiz sections to finish on time. Homework and team activities are graded on accuracy.
Marko has a bad rep because the class is so difficult. He's a decent guy who teaches an absolutely brutal class. The TAs are useless and don't help. The practice exams are huge, use those. But take at a CC if you can to save your GPA.
It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good. He consistently canceled his office hours, which was annoying. Most of his tests and quizzes had questions from previous years. Overall, he's a nice guy but could've taught the course better.
I would recommend taking this class at a CC. The lectures are long and boring and often don't make sense. The material is already hard and the way he teaches it just makes it worse. He is a nice guy but this class is brutal and he does nothing to help your grade. Don't take this unless you want to ruin your GPA.
He is a tough grader and grade is only based on a few assignments including the midterm and final. Lectures felt very rushed and towards the end some lectures had to be recorded due to lectures not being finished before the final.
Madunic wasn't great, but he really isn't terrible, either. Make sure to pay attention while he demonstrates how to solve a problem. You can miss a lot of easy points on homework and quizzes, so be careful. He also doesn't pace himself well during lectures, so they can be too rushed or slow. Read the textbook and you'll be fine.
The class does not require a textbook even though he says it's mandatory. He doesn't allow computers in class which is frustrating especially if you already know the material and don't need to pay attention 100% of the time. Just bring an iPad if possible and take notes. Study before exams and you should do fine. Group projects are poorly set up.
Boring lecture. Very boring. He talks about one question for the whole lecture time, which can be done in 20 mins max. Keeps on repeating the same thing the whole lecture, honestly way faster to watch the recording and skip through most of the class. Class is not hard, just boring and too slow paced.
no comment.
I literally had to drop, I need to retake this class next quarter. I'm not happy; wish me luck.
Picture this: your parents are going through a divorce while you are taking this course and it affects your mental being so you can't keep up with the class. Then you take the midterm because the tuition was alr paid for. You get the worst score ever and he posts everyones scores on the test to the whole class This is the kind of professor he is.
Genuinely the WORST professor in all of UW.
wish I could've withdrew, go on Khan academy!!!! only way to pass. save your mental health.
Genuinely worst professor I've had in all my 20 years of life on earth. I hope he gets fired
I don't know a single person in his class that showed any form of liking to him. Horrible professor, would NOT recommend taking him ever.
Do NOT take him. He makes exams and quizzes extremely hard. He also never responds to emails. He also doesn't take questions during lecture to top it off.
No passion, it's like he is there just for a paycheck. I get it is a boring class but at least be responsive to students and try to help. Would not recommend taking him.
Yes, he grades harshly, yes the class is hard. But it's not that hard to work. He always answered Q's in office hours, he always asked students to participate and made jokes. So much unneeded hate for a prof teaching a moderately hard course. Read textbook, go to lectures, ask him questions, and study. It's not impossible.
He honestly is a great professor. The class itself is tough but as long as you study and focus in lectures you'll do well. Make sure to stay up to date with the topics being used and do the practice problems from lecture to gain a better understanding.
The last two reviews below this were definitely written by him. All I have to say is that he is very boring and not helpful to students. I would recommend taking stat 311 instead of qmeth with marko.
Awful professor, I would not take him again or advise any of my peers to. For my foster students out there, just take stat 311 with a different professor.
Awful professor, I wanna drop the class so bad but I don't think any other professor teaches it. Genuinely the worst classes I've taken and Marko makes it 10x worse
Jesus I haven't had such a terrible professor since middle school, do not take him
Took this class last quarter, I feel like Marko gets unnecessary hate. He is very nice and funny, the practice homework and exams are perfect preparation for the midterm and final.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS
Please don't take this class. To get a 4.0 you can only miss 14.9 points out of ~550 in the ENTIRE course. He also is very unaccomodating regarding deadlines.
Class was awful; tests and quizzes are significantly more difficult than given course materials. Be sure not to miss any lectures, and his teaching style consists of in-person examples.
Do yourself a favor and do not take this class.
This teacher will do everything in his power to make sure that you can't succeed unless you go to every single lecture. Not sure why attendance is so important to him, only course in the entire foster pre-reqs that seems to actually care about attendance more than students learning. He also grades super harshly. Don't take this class.
Worst professor I have had in my entire life! He is just there to talk and make money, does not care about if students are learning. No passion or anything.
Recommends the book but, I didn't read it. Overcomplicated easy concepts, tried to trick you in the exams, & left out important things to know. Every other quiz section is either a group quiz or individual quiz. Kinda pointless tbh. Quizes were fine, and HW did too much. I did okay cuz I self-taught. Office hours with him=not helpful. Gook luck (:
This class wrecked me emotionally fr, if you fall behind even briefly, it's hard to recover. I went to tutoring 3x a week, never missed lecture, studied weekly, and still struggled. It's not impossible, but if math isn't your strength, good luck. Marko's not bad, it's just tough. my is Final's soon—wish me luck, I'll update after.
Marco is great at what he does. I went to his office hours, and he answered all my questions perfectly. That helped with loads of the HW answers I would have gotten incorrect on.
very quiz + exam heavy class, but marco teaches well! really funny and accessible outside class; material is tough but as long as you put the effort in ull be fine
When I took the class, he wanted us to use paper instead of our computers, so I printed out every lecture although he didn't enforce that later on. The worst part of the class was the quiz section, that had quizzes every other week, and group projects on the opposite weeks where nobody understood what they were doing. Cheat sheet allowed sometimes.
Lecture material isn't super helpful when it comes to the homework or quizzes. Just do some research and studying from outside sources and you'll be good. Not as hard as everyone else says it is.
UPDATE: I PASSED AYE. This was actually my lowest grade I've received at foster (2.0). I am very devastated cuz I did try, but I can tell you that if you're good with math and have an analytical brain I can see how you could do not bad. Not everyone will snuggle the same way, but plz use ur resources! FIT and office hours. It's not the worst class!
This professor is the funniest professor I have ever had. Great use of humor to keep students engaged and make concepts memorable. Doesn't allow computers in class which worked better than I thought. Great with interacting with students during class. One of the few professors that I don't think is here just for research purposes.
He's an extremely understanding and caring professor. The class is test-heavy, but the questions are pretty straightforward. As long as you create a good cheat sheet, you'll do well.
Don't waste your time taking his class, not worth his obnoxiousness.
To be completely honest, the professor himself was not awful but the way he set up the class was rough. The class concepts were not engaging and the grading scale is so bad. Every 14.9 points you get marked off is 0.1 off your GPA, but each question is worth so many points so if you get one question wrong your grade is guaranteed to drop.
