very helpful, understandable yet funny accent, nice guy
He almost made stats fun, Almost
Fantastic attitude & willingness to help. You won't pass unless you deserve it, but he'll to his best to make sure you can. Good guy.
This Prof is GREAT! Nice guy, comical, and a solid prof...likely the only reason I passed Math. Thanks Markus
He is a great teacher with a positive, approachable attitude. Definitely one of the best instructors in the math/stats department.
It's very rare that you meet a Math prof you can relate to as a human being, but Markus pulled it off. He taught a killer of a course and still managed to be respected by everyone. Great guy, and very funny.
Had him for stats 141. There's not much you can do to make stats "interesting" but I'm pretty sure this prof did everything he could. Very funny guy, cool accent, very helpful. If you're taking any math/stat, make sure you get him.
The hot factor because he was so awesome. I love this guy. He is the only reason I did not run screaming from math and the U altogether! Who knew math could make sense? Only with Markus. Best ever. Bar none.

good prof i'd definitely recommend him however watch out for the 'none of the aboves' on his tests, they tend to throw you off. nevertheless great prof, kinda funny,
very nice guy, pretty funny, accessible, tests not too hard.
killer courses but very helpful
Great guy, humourous as well. Explains things well, one of the better profs teaching these stat courses. Try to get into his class if possible if you have to take this course!
Been awhile but very charismatic man, love the way he says proportion. Wonderful instructor, works hard to make sure his students understand the concepts and open to new ideas. Too bad more profs are not like Markus, he should be the prof role model.
This is the best professor I have had in my two years as a university student. You can't help but fall in love with calculus in his class. Definately get in his section for Calculus. Do it!!! He's easy to understand and is always willing to further clarify concepts. Super funny and friendly. A+
Really like him, humour and interesting guy. And also kind. Exams related on the notes. Usually uses examples to clearify the theory.
holy crap, awesome teacher. funny but the effective way. likes to point of the idiot cell phone people, but does it nicely.
I took his class until after the midterm at which time i withdrew, because i bombed it! But i still think hes great, i should have taken 113 but being stupid... But ya hes great, it was just the course that was wrong for me. Super guy really gives you as good a chance at calc 114 as anybody.
Good Prof, Good notes, Fair Exams, and great sense of humour. I pinched his butt once walking out of his lecture... he laughed, didn't throw out a restraining order or anything. cool guy
He is entertaining and reminds me of my fave highschool teachers!
as I rated, he explains everything very clear, and he tries to use as many examples to help people understand. But he is a little bit easy.
He is everything I liked about highschool teachers. A great prof!
If anyone can make you understand it, it's him. The class is not too bad if you understood probability in High School.
He was such an awesome prof! He was so funny and made class interesting because he was so goofy. His exams were not that bad, but there were only a couple questions. Just make sure you pay attention in class and ask questions if you need. He's excellent! :)
Best teacher ever! Made math easy after Leonard screwed me up. This guy is the man.
Awesome prof!! Makes everything understandable and gives amazing examples.
I actually changed my minor to stat because of him! I had him for stat 151 last year and I just attended a math 115 review session taught by him. That session saved atleast 20% of my final exam mark! His classes are very entertaining and he teaches very well.
Markus loves his math and if you can get a hold of him he'll always give you help. He gives a large weight to homework which is always nice if the midterm goes badly. Be prepared for a hard final, but overall the class was not too bad. He's a nice guy and a pretty good prof.
Funny, makes Stats less painful than it otherwise would be, he makes it entertaining, and is very clear.
I found him very clear, easily accessible for help, and funny
Try to get in a section taught by this prof. He is truly amazing. I've recently attended a midterm help session by him for MATH 115 and it was a ton of help. This is one of my all-time favourite profs. His lectures are interesting, entertaining, AND educational! What more could anyone ask for?
Pretty good prof. Don't get in any early morning classes with him however because he is constantly late. He's been late to roughly 3/4's of our classes this term. He always says that he should leave earlier but never does. It gets tiring.
Good guy - really helpful when you go to see him outside of class and willing to answer questions in class. Exams are simple and straightforward, but the class is SO BORING. Not his fault though. Would recommend him for calculus, and maybe statistics.
Good prof. Witty and involves students in examples. Exams are easy if you prepare.
One of the best profs I have ever had! I absolutely hate math and yet he managed to make the course somewhat enjoyable. He explains concepts very clearly and is always willing to give you help if you need it. Funny and easygoing guy too. Highly recommended!
This professor was sufficient for this course. Helpful and diligent he has a few faults though. One being the fact that he could be up to 0.5hrs late, the other is the way he taught this course. It seemed to lack structure, and information concerning the course was sometimes difficult to obtain. A detailed syllabus should be provided.
This was a relatively hard class, compounded by the fact that there was no textbook. Markus has a great sense of humour but unfortunately his stats jokes didn't garner me anything spectacular in the marks department. And I went to every class, unlike him! He also showed up a half hour late for the final exam and ended up omitting half of it.
Stats does not really sound like a simple or appealing field to me, however this character really worked his magic in making it my easiest, clearest course in the entire year. My friends in other profs' classes never really understood the purpose of the material, whereas Markus made sure we knew why each method was used. Very important.
If you ever have to take stats then take it from this prof. He got me through a tough course with his enthusiasm, great sense of humor and ability to teach. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
He is a really good prof. I liked his class though there are times when he shows up late. If you do his practice exams, you will do fine. Has a sense of humor and is interesting. Pretty good notes. Do the homework and the labs (if you have them), they will boost your mark.
He is not even a prof, he is only a sessional. If he is so good how come he is not a prof?
Who cares if he's a sessional? Markus is the best! Besides, he's not even teaching Math 114. I he was, I'd bein his class for sure!
this guy is awsome. he's definatly the best proff that i've had at the university by far
Markus was a good guy (funny) but his teaching must've improved from when I had him!!! Our final exam was a total gong show. He printed off the wrong distribution tables and then turned the questions which used the tables into short answer when the exam was supposed to be all M/C. And yes he shows up late - his excuse was living in Sherwood Park!
I don't understand the complaints. Most other instructors should attend his classes and learn how to teach. There's more to it than throwing examples on the board. Take this guy's classes and ENJOY math for a change.
fun guy. every class seems to be the same. Howdy Folks!
Just do yourself a favor and take Math with Markus. Whether he is sessional or not, he puts more time into helping students prepare for finals than 99% of profs, and really cares that you do well. He's also hilarious and talks to himself while writing on the board.
Great prof! Gives assignment hints and in class examples are very clear. The midterm is really easy, but the final is tough. Make sure you know how to do math without a calculator because you're not allowed to have one!
Markus is an awesome prof!!! He seems to actually CARE about what he does, and his students, unlike many profs!!! He's very helpful when it comes to questions or assignment questions..the midterm isn't too bad...the final was fair, but a little tough. I would definatly recommend his class to anyone!!!
Great guy!
AMAZING PROF...hilarious...helpful...and knows what hes doing...id definately recommend him...ive heard really bad thinkgs about other profs
Having attempted this course previously with another proff, I cannot emphasize enough what a great teacher Markus is. He always has you smiling and laughing and is very clear in what he teaches. I highly recommend him. Most definitely one of the best teachers I have had so far (now in my 4th year).
Not always super clear on some concepts, made STATS hard for me to understand..he always ends up using the like the exact same examples for like a bunch of concepts, gets boring and repetitive, he gives examples that are often too easy and not very relevant to something that he would test on the test
Easy class, makes his classes fun BUT his notation is terrible. Tests are straghtforward, but require long working. There were quite a number of topics that I learnt on my own even before he taught, and sometimes he just confuses me with what he says. He's not too bad if you're not a stickler for math notation.
Markus is really funny, which is good it helps lighten the stress levels when you're laughing in class all the time. He is EXTREMELY helpful, you can ask him anything, he never makes you feel stupid. Very approachable and nice, and he's very clear, doesn't use useless jargon that confuses you. He's awesome!
He did the seminars for math 201 and 209. Really upbeat and humerous guy and tries to make things clear. He's friendly and very approachable, but I didn't find his 201 seminars a help at all, 209 one was much better.
Markus made Statistics class fun and exciting. Imagine that! I learned so much more in his class than previous STATS classes, and I heartily recommend anyone who has to take a STATS course tries to take it with Markus.
I've heard that Stats is difficult, but I didn't find it very challenging at all, and I think that's largely due to Markus. He explained basic concepts very clearly, and then built upon them. He actually made coming to a 9:00am Math class quite enjoyable. I'd say he's right up there as one of the best Profs in the department. Easiness is 3.5.
So friendly, so helpful, so smart, and so easy to listen to. Highly recommended!
It's Markus. Need I say more? He's a very talkative guy and definately knows his stuff inside out and backwards. He can, however, be a tad longwinded and he does use every minute of classtime, so you will be there right up to the end of class every day. Still, an excellent prof. Highly recommended.
Amazing professor that is a testament to how great teachers are never overlooked and are simply self-evident. If you are looking to take introductory Math, get this professor. I don't care what you have to do, GET IN HIS CLASS. For undergrads, you'll find he keenly makes your first Math experience intuitive, pleasurable and dare I say FUN.
Markus is a great prof. The material was a little hard but, then again, I'm not good at math. Always in a good mood and joking around, he tries really hard to keep your interest. Just try not to get into the monday labs or you'll get screwed over (get quizzes before you learn the subject). Try to get into his class, it's well worth it!
omg its MARKUS...thats all i can say most amazingly helpful guy...love him to death... if u are taking course that he teaches and u dont have him...it unfair to humanity!!!
best math prof ever, good notes and really helpful and funny
best math prof ever! i can't add more. take his class
I had no idea anyone had the power to make math interesting, muchless give you a reason to be attentive at 8:00 in the morning, but somehow Markus makes everything okay! He's fun, energetic, and extremely willing to help outside of class. One of the best, and definitely one of the most memorable profs I've ever had! You'll love him!
Markus! This guy makes math an entertaining course, actually don't mind going the lectures. Very helpful if you go for help but be warned, he likes to talk... so don't go if you're in a hurry! Great guy.
Helpful guy, sometimes hard to find during office hours. Really good notes, is at his best in front of 200 people teaching. Assignments and exams were fairly difficult, but that's mainly because I'm bad at math. Also funny, which helps you to pay attention during lecture at 8AM.
Extremely helpful and will do everything to help answer your questions. His lectures are super clear and explains concepts very well. His tests are very fair and not hard at all. If you want a good math prof this is the one to get.
Molenda was the greatest! His tests aren't very hard, he gives you huge hints to what they're about. His assignments are fair and .. well get in his class! He's the best!
I was in his 8 AM class and let's face it. Math that early can't be good, but he made it relatively easy. The midterm was easy. The final was okay but each multiple choice question was worth 5 marks each. Overall if you don't have him as your math prof your missing out.
I love Markus! A great prof, takes the time to answer your question, even if the line up goes till 25 minutes after the class finished. Every prof should follow his example. Very funny, made math interesting and *gasp* understandable! Suck up the 8:00am class and get into it, cause you won't regret it. Assignments and exams are very fair too.
Amazing prof. THE choice to get that Math prereq. out of the way. Always happy and has a subtle sense of humour. Everything is easy to understand with him. My only problem was that his assignments were a bit harder than his exams, so I was too lazy to do them. Do your practice problems and past exams since they are EXTREMELY similar.
He is the best prof ever, he is organized and easy to follow, understand willing to help and answer your questions. My midterm was easy but the final was a bet harder. Take his class practice do the assignment you will get your dream mark. it's a fun class.
Molenda was probably one, if not, the best professor I had in my first year. I highly recommend him as your professor especially if you're trying to bump up that GPA. Read and understand his notes and his practice problems online and the midterms and final exams will be a piece of cake. From an F in gr12 to an A- in 1st yr, he's an A+ prof.
Brilliant man. Simplifies concepts down to the bare minimum to ensure that everyone can understand. Well worth getting up for the 8:00 a.m. class.
Taught me in a help course, and was way better than my actual prof. Seriously learned more with Molenda in a small amount of time than with my regular prof for the whole semester. If you LOVE or HATE math, you want him as a prof either way.
very goofy, definitely a sense of humor. He explains things well and i had an awesome experience in his class. The only complaint is he spends alot of time doing proofs that we you don't need for the midterm/final. but he def does alot of other great examples and explains things well.
Molenda was awesome! definately my favorite prof of the semester! his tests were fair and he even gave bonus questions on midterm and final. He managed to be entertaining while teaching a boring course. I would highly recommend him!
he is cool and funny, take it.
Great teacher! I loved his class and i looked forward to it! He made math 100 EASY!
I have no idea why everyone is praising Molenda, he's not a very good teacher. I was in Sean Graves class before switching into Moenda's and I was fine always going to Math class. Now with Molenda, I dread going to class, its so fricken boring, and he does a lots of stupid proofs that are useless.
Excellent prof! His lectures are great, he gives excellent examples that are very helpful. His assignments are hard, but if you work together it's not so bad. Also harder assignments make the tests easier, which is nice.
Good prof. If you took calculus in high school expect to still pay quite a bit of attention because you'll be taught and tested on theorems he teaches. Sometimes writing got messy and couldn't understand. He should try to keep the students quiet instead of giving light threats. Final is non-cumulative. Have to admit class was not boring at all.
He's excellent; tests are based exactly on course material. Very fair, I definitely recommend him.
I found him to be EXTREMELY boring. Also, he spends the majority of time on proofs and then says, "don't worry you wont be tested on this." Then he spends very little time on the stuff you are tested on. He only does easy examples in class and then gives hard questions on assignments and even harder questions on exams. I would say avoid him.
Markus somehow manages to make Math funny, which is a quality I appreciated. His midterms and finals are exactly like the practice ones he posts on his website. The assignments and exams would be pretty fair to anyone who has already taken math 113, which can make it hard to get a good grade. I still recommend him though.
Molenda is a good math prof. I had him for my first university math class ever and I really liked him. He is always willing to help you with your questions. If you do all of the homework, and do the practice midterms and sheets on the internet than you will do well in the course. His tests are alot like his samples and he grades fairly. Good prof
He really enjoys math. In class he's always bubbly and happy which makes it easier to not fall asleep. I did miserably on the midterm but if I had studied it would have been fine. 70% average or something?? Final was ok, brutal numbers though. Study the notes and UNDERSTAND THEM WELL and it should be ok. Hes more than willing to help
He's a great prof. I took this class because it was a prerequisite for business, and I was completely dreading it. He made it easy and fun, and I would consider taking another math class if he taught it. Calculus isn't easy, but he's really fair and his notes are ridiculously organized. Understand what he does in class and you'll do well.
I enjoyed his lectures. He's easy to follow along with. However, he tends not to use examples in his lectures.
Good instructor but his MASC's aren't nearly as good as Carmen's because he doesn't give enough practice questions in the review booklet.
great prof, clear and funny. highly recommended. as for math 114, either you should take math 113 or the university should start checking those who have taken calculus and still taking 113. that would make math 114 more legit and easier.
Awesome prof! The class was not bad and the labs definitely helped and were easy marks. I would recommend him. Easy midterm, kind of challenging final
Good prof! his notes are really good. He's a funny guy. Sometimes it is boring but not extremely. If you keep up with his notes you should be fine.
Brilliant mathematician, and a good lecturer as well. He tries to make math as engaging as possible. Tests are fair. Recommended.
Great lecturer, fair exams. Attend class, take the notes and do the practice questions. That will guarantee you at least a B+
Great prof, easy class
Such an amazing prof! If you hate math, take his class, if you love math, take his class. He is very funny, speaks clear and is always there to help you! Best prof everrr! The final was a bit tough thou... But study harder than I did!
Absolutely amazing prof!! He is super easy to understand, and his lectures are easy to follow and also pretty fun! Both midterm and final were fair, you just need to be sure to study and ask questions if you need help! Again, what an amazing prof. Try to get into his class! :)
His in class notes are so easy it is sad. And then you think his exam will be the same but it is 10 times harder. He wants students to suffer
Easily best prod I've had so far. Very easy to follow and understand, very helpful, super clear. This class was my highest mark because the professor made the class. Highly recommended.
Markus is an absolutely wonderful professor. He made the notes clear and easy to understand. He is easily approachable and honestly does care about his students. His exams and assignments are very difficult. Overall a fantastic professor, but a difficult class.
Markus is the bomb! He goes at a reasonable pace, keeping you at toes. His asssignments are challenging, but they REALLY help with learning material. His notes are clear and concise and he provides many example questions to do. I took this 2 years ago, but I still remember as one of the best classes I had in uni!
Awesome Professor! Assignments are tricky, but good in that they reinforce your knowledge of what was taught in class. Exams aren't too bad. His lectures are awesome. Keeps you laughing while providing good concise and understandable notes
Not recommended. Examples are too easy. Long exams you cannot finish in 50 minutes or 2 hours. Tests are way to long. Every question he tests on the same thing so if you miss one small thing you lose 5 marks.
Don't take his class waste of time
Decent prof, makes tricky homework assignments that frustrates the hell out of you but becomes easier on the exams. Also loves to use the word "schmuck" though it is directed at himself for foolishness rather than any students
4. One of the worst professor I have encountered, Notes are simply and exams bust your, you know what, as well as his assignments. MASC courses are useless since they are his notes the other professor is using which means they are simple and not a fair representation of Math 115.
Tough class but its calculus what else did you expect? The fact that he speaks perfect English was by far the best quality a person could ask for in a math class. His tests and homework are harder than what we cover in class thats the main downside. He's a pretty fun prof as well, likes to make jokes. I'd recommend him.
Calculus. You can't really blame him for the bad stuff on here, it's calculus. Honestly one of the funniest, wittiest professor in U. Yes calculus is hard. But he is better than any other Math 114 prof out there. Take him too
Awesome teacher. I had his class first thing M W and F and I'd say it's a great start of day. He's better than most of the other profs in the math department
overall helpful instructor
Nice guy, speaks perfect English which is a plus, and is pretty clear in his teaching. Assignments are much more in depth than class examples though. All around a great teacher. Don't buy the textbook though.
Markus Molenda was a nice professor. The homework on WebAssign.com was easy. His examples were clear. My problem was that I already took the material in high school, so I was bored stiff. He did not seem to like it when I asked questions in class, but answered them out of class. The midterm and exam were very long and hard, so make sure to study.
funny guy, he gives note very clearly and post them on the website, though it always 1 week later...explain the contents very clearly and is always willing to help, but the final exams are so tricky, much more difficult than the in-class example and the sample exam pratices
Explains concepts well. I found the midterm really straightforward, but the final was a bit tricky. Overall, a good prof.
Markus was amazing! Great prof for calculus. Extremely clear, and very helpful, even over email. Don't buy the textbook though! Don't need it! Exams are fairly hard, but otherwise an amazing prof.
Markus is a great professor, who is very nice guy and is very helpful with answering questions. Unfortunately his lectures are boring. His notes are just pre typed on microsoft word with some missing section. Examples he does during lecture are already typed out on slides. He posts all completed slides online. attendance not mandatory
Markus is a really good prof, as he's always enthusiastic and willing to help. His lectures aren't boring, stats is. He posts all the notes online but answers to example questions are blank to encourage attendance. But he'll post all the completed notes after said class so you don't really have to go or even pay attention. Highly recommended!
His lectures are very boring but that's stats, not him. He posts his notes online so you don't need to go to class. The textbook is useless (and expensive). His midterm was pretty easy, however the final was very hard. I wouldn't recommend taking stats or having him as a prof.
I loved this class!! Markus is always willing to help! And he makes an effort to help EVERY student, which is awesome :) . The textbook wasn't very helpful for me.. I used it once or twice for MyStatLab.. and MyStatLab has some stupid questions but most are relevant to the course... other than that, Highly highly recommended :)
He's a pretty good prof and he seems like a genuinely nice person. I liked him despite the fact that statistics is horribly boring. It seems like it would be a hard subject to teach, but he did a good job at explaining the concepts and providing lots of practice exams prior to the midterm/final. I highly recommend him!
I hate statistics but I loved Dr. Markus! He answers all questions if you come to him for help. He's a great lecturer - he explains things very clearly for the most part and is super funny. Sometimes he's slow posting notes. Great prof though! Try going to class as it will be easier on you in the long run even though stats is really boring.
Molenda is a very nice guy. Not a great teacher. His lectures are basically him reading over complicated proofs of equations and unclear definitions. His notes aren't great either; I can guarantee you'll get lost many, many times. Tests weren't bad, but since the material is tough to grasp, it keeps you worrying. This class wasn't the best..
I'd say Molenda is one of the better stats profs out there. His notes show a lot of unnecessary theory and he always forgot to post them before class, but they're decent. Tests are fairly straight forward, can easily do well if you practice enough. He's a pretty smiley and personable guy too!
Easy Class. Boring Professor! Couldn't manage to come to class. Really nice guy and helpful though.
Great class! Just you need to pay close attention! But other than that, great professor.
