Hard teacher but very helpful. Will take time to explain anything.
Difficult class, but great, dedicated teacher
No Comments
I learned a lot!
Hard. She'll kick your butt.
good teacher...absence policy sucks tho
She was an ok teacher, but she was really nice to look at!!!
Her class was hard and so was I.
poor teaching ability
good teacher.. make sure you dont skip class cuz then you'll be lost when u get back. she's good though.. i learned alot.
It is a hard class but she really wants everyone to do well. Explains material very well.
She's one of the better math teachers, she's extremely hard so you better work hard but you learn so much that what you've learned sticks with you for a very long time. Work hard ,ask questions, and pay attention.
VERY HARD..TEACHES LIKE SHE'S AT HARVARD..MISS UCLA!!!! LIKES TO PICK ON PEOPLE..DO NOT TAKE HER!!
Very hard
hard, but good. kind of easy to understand but i dropped the class.
Geometry is just hard. But she tries to help you understand it. Just remember all the theroms and postulates and you'll get a good grade in the class.
She definetely knows her stuff. She might be a little hard but if you study and learn your theorems it's all cake. Definetely Recommend her!!!!
I took this class twice with other teachers and failed. I finally passed with her. Shes a good teacher. If i wasnt paying attention to her lecture I was fantasizing about her naked.
Very hard teacher, but good, her tests are really hard and the grading system that she uses sucks. I would not take her again ever.
doesn't know how to teach, extremely unclear, and a very bad grader
It's a hard class, but just study a lot. and do the even problems in the math book. and go to class EVERYDAY, and see a tutor at the TLC lab...they'll help a lot. I got a B in the class. :)
Ms. Demerjian is a very bright and good professor. She really knows her stuff and is willing to help you if you need it. Definetly do your homework and be prepared to go up to the board and work out some problems for the class. She is also very hot!
hard teacher, took her class for summer school, dont recommend it. moves very fast. during the regular semester, she may be a little better. and i dont know what everyone else is talking about...she is NOT hot AT ALL!!!
A feminist who tries to make everyone feel dumb compared to her with her terminology.Full of jargon and herself, teaches really fast and doesnt take time to care if you understand. doesnt teach just goes over hw.you have to read the math text book to learn
She was a very nice teacher. She expects you to do your work- don't have a lazy attitude, or else you will not do well. I'd read the book as well if you don't understand something.
Toughest math teacher I've every had and I went to class everyday and did all the homework, barely got a C.Tests are very hard. She obviously loves her subject, but doesn't take time to explain student questions very well. She is evil, I would recommend finding ANY other math teacher.
Very unfair, and unclear grading standards. Got a 38 on first test in her class, and a 87 on first test, same class different instructor (gilmore)
Miss one day in this class and it will feel like a week. Lots of Homework. She doesn't explain things very clearly. Tests are hard. I would reccomend taking any other teacher for Math 103
DO NOT TAKE HER FOR MATH...unless you want to spend about 4 hours a day in hw and studying...not very nice..expects you to already know everything...take anyone but her
Just a few words......NO CALCULATOR....EVER!! she will also drop students if you miss one class no matter what the emergency, even if you were in the hospital
she's rea;;y tough on tests. u really have to study and keep up or u will be lost. however, she explains everything and won't give you something that you did not already cover in class. she is very helpfull and goes over any question you have. she's very bright and knows her stuff. it's math! PRACTI
didnt like this class. she's too strict on attendence! she's really loud. her tests arent that difficult tho. she does random HW checks and GRADES ur hw. not cool
Mrs. Demerjian is AWESOME! She is really hard like really hard don't take her if you do not want to study A LOT! She really cares for us students though which is nice and she is incredibly smart.
GREAT teacher! I learned so much more geometry in her class than I ever did in highschool.
radiant.
She is a very nice instructor and really wants her students to learn. She is a hard grader when it comes to tests and her collecting the homework randomly really keeps you on top of things. I would recommend her if you really want to know your stuff. If you just want to slack off take someone else.
she is a *****
i didnt really like her she was mean and unclear plus their was an air to her voice that made it seem like that if you didnt understand then u were dumb
do not murder yourself.
very interesting class. if you don't like math, this class is great, its more about logic. Profesor Demerjian is really helpful and when she explains it everything just makes sense.
Hard Teacher. Was not exciting. She took a already boring class and made it really dule. Very hard grader, and not sympathetic at ALL.
Actually gave grades for homework, i thought homework was where you were suppost to make mistakes??! Very hard tests, and not a teacher who wants students to be successful! this was proof to me that the teacher makes all the difference! Math 103 is all the same, so be successful and take another teacher, i recomend Gilmore.
Very helpful. Strict, but fair grader. If you want to learn take math class with her.
Ms.D is tuff, but very fair. She was up front with what the class was about, the difficulty and what was expected of the students. Those who did not do well, probably did not apply themselves. They got what they put into the class & have no one to blame but themselves. I know from 1st hand experience. I will do better taking it again this fall.
She is by the book strict but a nice person. She is a great teacher in that she is clear and I actually learned math.
Very Confusing. Has favorites.
I was late FIVE minutes to class!!! For the first day and she dropped me and said too bad. If you want to waste your time go ahead.
the worst f**kin math teacher ever. doesnt explain s**t. tests are ridiculioulsy hard. but she was kinda hot.

Very good at explaining math. Varies classtime with not only lectures but also groupwork and participation. Expect college level work and expectations. Tries to make sure everyone understands a concept before moving on.
A very hard grader, random HW gatherings that are graded. Good teacher, expects you to work hard. You will work hard! reveiws HW for a long time so you dont get as much lecture.

is strict and very hard. picks favorites and is bad at giving tests and grades hw
great geometry teacher very hard, but understandable. class at college level, so if you still think high school get the hell out.
Good at explaining things, but she really screwed me on a test. I made arrangements to take a test early (due to a funeral that I had to attend) and she didn't show up for my appointment. She then treated it like it was my fault, and I had to drop that test (using up my ability to drop my lowest test score). This brought me from an A to a B.
This broad is nuts! Her tests deviate from the book, EVERY lecture goes beyond what you need to know, lots of HW, HW graded, rules on attendance, puts you on the spot, 40 and dresses like she's 22. Anything else?
She's weird. Strict about things that don't matter, lots of homework and she's tough about grading. Also, just not very nice. Oh and one more thing, if you get the proof right but don't use the same axioms in the same order as she does, you're still wrong. Go figure.
I actually teach math and she is by far the best math teacher I have come across. However, she is VERY strict. As long as you come to class everyday and turn in your homework, you will do well. Don't get on her badside or you're screwed. She is also very helpful (if you ask her). Actually study for her tests & figure out how to use ur calculator.
I took her 070 class last semester and am now currently enrolled in her 140 class. She is a very awesome math teacher. I have never been good at math but she explains things very well and is always willing to help you after class. I highly recommend taking her for any math. She's awesome. However, she takes the absence policy very seriously.
very difficult teacher. she assumes you know everything and she likes people that are smart. she thinks she's so cool. difficult class. she needs to know how to grade tests.
Worst ****ing teacher ever!!!!!!
Dr. D. is seiously one of the BEST math teachers. Math isn't easy, but she explains it in a way that you will understand and helps you if you don't. She's sweet, always wears a smile, and has this feeling that you as the student comfortable. As long you do the hw and study, the tests aren't bad. If i can get a B in her class, then so can you!
Terrible experience. Assumes that the students know everything about math. Does not explain herself, nor makes herself available to help. Her tests are very hard, and you lose points if your homework has errors (isnt that what homework is for?) please save your sanity!!
She is a good teacher, but you really have to know your material. Her tests are hard and make sure to do the homework even if she doesn't collect it all the time because it really affects your grade. but marlene is very nice it helps you outside of class. But she is not an easy teacher.
Easy class, extremely boring teacher. Don't pay attention to the lectures because she gives you info you don't need to know on the tests. Tests are basic if you do the HW and study a little bit. Very smart lady, but can't seem to get to the point.
Marlene is absolutely the best teacher I've had at COC. She is NOT easy and she shouldn't be as she is there to teach you, not give an easy grade. Don't take her class thinking you will slide by, take it to learn and you will be well served. She keeps a tight rein on her class and that's nice for those of us that want to learn.
Her class is always clearly only if you doing homework everyday, if you do that u can get an A or B! trust me!
This class isn't easy, but if you do your homework and pay attention in class, getting an A is a piece of cake. If you miss three classes, she WILL drop you, no question. no makes up or excused absences. she's understanding if you talk to her...helps you if you need it. homework helps more than i can even say
Better than average math teacher. My only critique would be that she has students work in groups occassionally, which I could have lived without. Strict attendance policy and does not count religious holidays as excused absences. Overall, she is a very good math professor. Material isn't too difficult if you do your homework.

Great teacher. Strict but helpful. I've learned a lot.

Very difficult teacher. Homework is much harder than what is presented in class. But the tests pretty much do come from the homework. Expects you to teach yourself the details on a topic (but there are some really really difficult ones to try to learn on your own). Ask questions, do your homework every night, and go to almost every class meeting.
This class is NOT a no-brainer. She teaches it like a UCLA class. Attendence is mandatory but also neccessary. Do the homework- its randomly graded and helps you understand the work. Go to class, do the homework and you can easily get an A. If your not going to invest your time, don't take the class.
She is a great teacher, I had her for 3 semesters, from College Algebra to Calcs 2. She is very nice, extremely helpful, but strict. She wants you to learn, not to just skate by. She knows what she is talking about, and gives you all the tools you need to succeed in her class. Don't take her if you want everything handed to you.
Everyone in class had trouble understanding the lecture because she does not make it clear. Collects homework every day... lots of it! NOT AN EASY COURSE
this teacher expects way too much out of her students!!! test are way to hard!! she believes that the easy sections dont belong on tests?? cant teach worth a damn! worst teacher i have ever had!! also the first class i have ever failed in my life!!! I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS TEACHER!!!
Best prof I ever had at COC (finally a class that felt like I was in college and not high school). She explains everything in great detail.Don't know what some of these students are taking about. I scored almost 100% on every exam(never had trig before).Wish she taught calc next semester.I would take her class anytime.
I really hate math, but this has nothing to do with Demerjian's teaching. I've never been good with math and had to WORK MY BUTT OFF to pass this class, but she was nothing but helpful. Great teacher, just do your homework and ASK QUESTIONS! She makes you work for your grade, but why is that such a bad thing?
It's so clear that those who give Dr. Demerjian poor ratings are the idiots who didn't do well in her class. "Wahhh, she teaches it like a college class!!!" Well...duh -- you're in college now idiot. "Wahhh, she makes you do your work!!!" Again, you're an idiot. Do you work, work hard, she knows what she's talking about.
Shes tough and doesn't give much partial credit on tests. I ended up earning a B but would never take her again.
Aswome Teacher!! Dont take if you dont care cuz then you'll be dissapointed that she actually made you LEARN!! Great teach for math or engineer majors... if you dont like her then I would advise you not go on to real university and stay at community your whole life. Doesnt believe in spoon feeding!!
She is really one of the best prof's at COC! Her class is NOT an easy A at all! She demands a lot of hard work but you will walk out of the class knowing you learned. Definitely a college class but shes also willing to help make sure you understand the material.
If you need calc, and you care about your GPA. Don't murder yourself!
This teacher has inspired me...to become a better teacher than she ever will be. If your not there the first day, your out. no joke. don't miss her class or else. i'm a real college student and i've never felt so humiliated to go to a class that I major in. Avoid if possible, or hire a tutor. If you can teach yourself this stuff, be my guest.
she is a very good teacher that goes out of her way to help you understand the content.
honestly this teacher is no good, her tests are hard dosent explain whats gonna be on it, expects you to be a master mathematician before you enter the class its weak sauce no lie
She's tough but fair. If you show up to class and pay attention you should have no problem passing her class.
Dr. Demerjian is one of the best teachers I've had at COC. She is very excited about calculus and that makes me excited about it. Her explanations are easy to understand and it seems that she genuinely cares that each student learns the material. I'm taking her for Calc 2 for sure!
She is one of the best math instructors I have ever had. She is passionate about Math and has a ton of energy. Do not expect to show up to class with a cancel note on the door. She is always there. Do not miss her class or come tardy cuz she gets irritated. She is not an easy instructor, but she drops her grading schedule.
She is a hard teacher, but helpful. She claimed that she doesn't give extra credit, but then she did. Backed out on her promise to give you the higher grade if you're close. Only take this class if you have no other choice.
Amazing Amazing teacher. You will definitly have to work extremly hard but you will learn SO MUCH.
DO NOT take her if you aren't good at math. She teaches with power point which in my opinion is horrible and her grading scale is good 77-87 is a B but that's because she grades your test so any mistake will cost you your life! No extra credit no nothing she grades homework (before going over it) so if you don't understand well OH WELL!
She really wants students to do well, but she also expects you to do your part. Do the HW if you want to pass. Take advantage of her office hours.
She is a good really good teacher with a passion to get students to get an in the the semester. I had a B all semester and final came around and got an A. with just doing the hw and doing the review questions assigned you can't fail. She uses the chapter review questions on the exams.
Teaches alright and is a nice person, and teacher. Obviously, if you're not good at math, you're not going to like your MATH teacher. The entire course schedule (tests, homework, due dates etc.) is in the syllabus on day 1. And she dresses like shes going somewhere, its kind of entertaining.
Her powerpoints are not the easiest to read and understand, but this teacher does teach the material. She doesnt collect all the homework, but she doesnt tell you what she is collecting. She does make class interesting, and gives extra credit opportunities. Most of the weight is on tests tho, and she gradesselected HW based on answers, not completo
She waste your time teaching the wrong things. shes does this to make her point why you might be wrong, shes is a waste of time. She's Never in here office and her review days are pointless. She wont help you. She makes a lot of mistakes herself. I rather read the book then listen to her.
She is a horrible teacher. I heard so many great things about her so i decided to take her. Im pretty good at understanding math but she just confused me. She only listens to guys so if you're a male, you should get an A. I would ask questions and she wouldn't help me, just get irritated and walk away. She says she cares but she doesnt.
She was a very AVERAGE teacher, not especially good. She singles students out on a regular basis. I personally was never singled out. She did this so extremely, that she made a girl CRY IN CLASS. She singled her out for over 20 mins and then it turned out that the girl had the correct answer. average teacher, horrible person!
Teacher does not give extra credit.or quizzes.all lectures are done on power point.homework is collected randomly and graded by class mates.teacher can be rude at times.and will drop you from class if your using your cell phone.i dont reccommend this teacher!
Although she collects the homework randomly, her tests are really easy even if you dont study
I liked her as a teacher even though a few people didnt. Her A is from 88-100 so you have some room. All her tests have 1 or 2 questions that are random and difficult. Study A LOT and go over all the problems she goes over in class because sometimes she uses them as the hard qustion on the test. I reccommend just dont expect it to be easy.
Definitely a difficult teacher, but she wants you to succeed. Her lectures are convoluted sometimes and going over the lectures and doing ALL of the homework is crucial. Would recommend but would advise that it's not going to be an easy class.
Demerjian is an okay professor. She has very high standards, her tests are very hard and she GRADES YOUR HOMEWORK. If you choose her make sure that you can devote several hours a day towards her class.
A great teacher! Contrary to what some have said, I found her to be very helpful. I struggle with math and was terrified going in. I passed without any trouble. She is very helpful. A little convoluted at times, but always willing to go back and clarify if you ask. Attendance is important, and doing the homework. Put in the time, you'll do fine.
Absolutely the best math teacher i've had. Took her class for calc 1, and now i'm in her calc 2. She's one of the most caring math teacher i've ever had. She answers all questions and wants to make sure students learn in her class.
She is a strict teacher but extremely helpful and covers every single question the class has. She's energetic and actually cares about students passing her class. Homework is graded and the tests were not bad.
I completely regret taking my trig class with her for various reasons. i memorizes the formulas back and forward and did all my homework, but she designs the tests for you to get a low grade or fail. Do not take this teacher.
Lovely teacher, she is also very clear and helpful. She always made sure we understood the material and was reasonable about test grading and homework.
I had demerjian for Calc 1 and 2. She is a great professor and willing to help students out. Most people taking her class were trying to transfer, those who dropped out were not motivated to do anything post high school. Solid teacher, prepares you well for a 4 year!
Average teacher, but do not expect any kind of understanding on a human level. There is 0% chance of having an 'excused' absence, and forced Drop/W will happen. Your reasons will fall on the dark void where the compassion gene is supposed to reside. Unfortunate really, wanted to believe she wasn't as pretentious/cold as her first impression.
Nice teacher. cares about students. attendance very manditory. attention manditory. Auto drop for 3 absences. Forbids cell phone use. Good teacher, but difficult. weird grading scale: you can get an A with an 87 and good attendence, you can pass with a 54.
Was very rude. Doesnt care much for athletes and when they have events. Confusing class! Only does examples for notes. Doesnt wait for all her class to understand concepts. WOULD NOT RECOMEND THIS TEACHER IF YOU ARE AN ATHLETE OR AREN'T ABLE TO UNDERSTAND MATH EASILY!!!!! Hate her class want to drop out but i cant because i need the credits....
Yes, her attendance policy is harsh. No, she is not a heartless harpie as others claim. She cares deeply for students, but recognizes that her class is almost impossible to pass if you frequently miss lessons. If you care about learning, hands down, best teacher. If you want a hand-out or to be coddled, head somewhere else.
Demerjian is an amazing teacher. When you do the hw make sure you understand it. Her tests are fair. If you want to pass her class show up and do the hw. Her class gave me an extremely good foundation for Calc! As long as you ask questions and do the hw her class is not that difficult to pass. She does assign a lot of hw.
Hardest class I have ever taken. Tests and HW are fair but she is very condescending and looks down on people who aren't naturally good at math. This makes her unapproachable and asking questions difficult. If you are good at math I think she would be a great teacher, BUT if you are intimidated by math or find it difficult DO NOT take her class.
Demerjian is a really good Calc-2 Professor. Her tests are challenging, but very fair. No curve balls. However the Final was very difficult, so study ahead of time! Homework is collected randomly and those points really help! Also, it helps that her "A" is a 88%. If you attend class everyday, her "A" is an 87%.
Good professor! Sometimes spends too much time on one problem (it's for the best) which is good for math or engineering majors. Tests were very straightforward and there was nothing really unexpected. The class itself was difficult but was pretty manageable with Demerjian's lessons. Don't miss class!
She is a terrible teacher. Worst of all the math teachers ive ever had, especially in college. She spits the information at you without actually showing you how to do it...Ridiculous. Don't recommend her at all
She is a reasonable teacher, given that the math classes she teaches are hard, (Algebra etc.) she does a good job at making the content understandable, and retainable. Tests and Homework are fair, if you plan on going to class regularly, and doing the Homework you should excel and definitely pass! She works with students to understand everything.
You will learn a tremendous amount by taking her class.
Great lectures, gives you great info for your notes. Participation is A MUST. Tests a little harder than homework. Homework is collected randomly. She is willing to help and answer any questions. Goes out of her way to help you. She is strict on phones and attendance. Overall great teacher and great class.
The class is difficult and requires more critical thinking than Calc 1. It's a hard class because the tests really test that you understand the concepts. She uses difficult examples of each concept for her test so you have to study hard. She's helpful if you ask for clarification on a concept. Can't miss any lectures because you'll get behind.
I'm not the best at math, but I really learned a lot in her class! She is a very good teacher. She's professional, but friendly. She goes over and collects and grades homework. You need the book to do the hw. An average amount of quizes and tests. She tests on what she taught - no surprises! She expects you to and on time. Absolutely no phones.
Best Teacher at COC.
I am currentley taking Marlene's math 240 class and she is one of the best math teachers that I've had at COC! The material is hard, naturally, however, if you come to class, take notes, and do the homework you will be fine! She takes time to explain anything you have a question on and is really there for the students. I would highly recommend her.
This teacher is tough and shes not easy to talk to. There was even a time she threw a curveball on a test. Who puts the "fundamental error of calculus" (something she never mentioned ever) on a test?! Be ready to put a lot of attention in her class.
After achieving 100% on two exams, I ended up with a B in this class. She is an extremely tough grader, who will not only grade your answers, but also all of your work on both tests and homework. This class ruined my 4.0 GPA.
Demerjian was honestly one of my favorite professors. Everyone always said that she's a tough grader, but I disagree. She gives everyone what they deserve. You will need to work hard in her class, but by doing the homework and visiting her office hours, you will definitely learn a lot. Just make sure not to slack off, cause if you do it's game over
STAY away from this teacher!!! Told us she would do problems wrong and if no one caught her mistake then that's our fault. No guidelines for tests &whole class is based on tests. Hw is randomly graded and she assigns 50-70 problems per section. Spends 1hr min going over hw & spends other hr cramming in the lesson for the day and never finishes.
A lot of the time she will lecture on one thing but the homework will incorporate a completely different way to solve the problem. So what I am trying to say is if you want to pass the class you must either be really smart, study your butt off, or get help from the TLC or a tutor on a regular basis.
She is a terrible professor. She knows her material, she is a very smart woman. She just can't teach. She likes showing off her knowledge and expects the class to know what she knows. She assigns so much HW that has nothing to do with the tests. Overall terrible class. I do not recommend her.
If you have not taken any calculus class, do not take her Bus Calc (math 240) class. Teaches like everyone has taken pre calc before when you can take college algebra and skips the easy steps and is super unhelpful. Has attitude almost every class. No clear direction or study guide for tests when they are obviously super hard. Teaches way too fast
Don't take! Likely teaches lower level classes well but awful with calculus. Spends over half the class on homework review and an hour or less on the lesson. Kind of arrogant and assumes the class knows exactly what to do. I understand more and faster reading the book than listening to her lecture. Not the best with partial credit on test questions
If you plan on taking Calc II with her, make sure you schedule is light. She often assigns two homework assignments to be due by next class. Often times these assignments can take 3-4 hours each (assuming you actually try to learn it). Tests are fair but she gives 0 partial credit. Be prepared to memorize 40+ integrals.
Relies on the student having read chapter before class. She skips much of the material for each section but still expects people to know it by the test. If you have any other classes that assign a lot of homework get ready to choose. Each section takes 1.5 - 2 hours and any subject is game for being on a test.
Dropped the class before it ruined my GPA. I should've read the reviews first. Awful professor, just awful. Doesn't care about her students, just likes to show off that she knows everything and picks on students who aren't as good at math during lectures. There's way better math professors at COC do yourself a favor and choose a different one.
Too much homework and gets annoyed when you ask for help. Bad class for working students, she's really strict on attendance and randomly pics answers from homework to grade (so even though you come home from a late shift, spent all night doing the assignment, don't expect any partial credit if you used the wrong formula on that one she picked)
no extra credit no study guides no consideration for athlete's scheduling
I'm reading all these comments and it sounds like a bunch of crybabies who just expected to breeze through with minimal effort. I did the hw and read each section before class, attended regularly, and easily got an A. And I'm by no means especially smart or gifted, just average. I was really sad she didn't teach calc 3. Take Matsumoto for that.
I personally did not take to her teaching style but every student is different. She wasn't that understanding that life happens and sometimes there are emergencies that would need a test to be taken before her posted date. There were a few times she got annoyed with students for asking how to do problems which is ironic since she is a professor.
She is the worst. If you have the chance to get another professor, do it. Her teaching skills are awful. She teaches half the chapter and doesn't go into detail about the lesson that she explains. Most basic examples for lessons and randomly collects homework. There is a lot of homework. I took calculus in highschool and I liked it more than this.
don't take her if you want to pass
If you like hard, take her. If you don't, don't. And for reference, she checks homework at random times. Not every class
Boring. Ineffectively tries to entertain students with examples. Might be just me. Her teaching style isn't that good either. She's kind of vague and she explains it in a confusing way. She's also incredibly tough. Never gives 100% on hw. Goes thru hw & checks for accuracy & completion from only a few select hw problems. Never gives 100% on hw.
Complicates stuff. If u know something, u'll question it after the lecture. And if u're having a bit of trouble, she'll subtly insult u, whether it's explicit or implicit, whether it's a quick glance or a spoken gesture. Experienced & observed it. I have loved math since grade 3. I would spend literally hours discussing it. I'm 20. I hate it now.
Really passionate math professor. She moves fast but is very willing to slow down and explain if you ask. A lot of people dropped because of complexity of class. Requires a lot of keep up but is manageable if you study and just do the homework.
Do not recommend her at all.
She gives out good info for applied questions. We learned about functions and different scenarios that can relate. Her examples are very clear and helps me picture certain concepts. She told us you will study your butt off and it won't be easy, but it will be rewarding. Get a tutor, talk to her in office hours, ask questions, get 100% on all exams.
I'm a Bus major and need this course to transfer. First impression she is a very nice and caring woman who cares for every student's success. It will be hard to get through, but make sure you are asking questions, getting a study group, practicing, making good detailed notes. Her lectures is her giving an analogy to different problems to help you.
Wow. For once I actually got a gr8 math proff. First, hw is random so make sure you do it or you'll be anxious hoping for an odd number. Write out all the steps, one by one, and ask classmates how they did their homework, etc. she will tell you what mistakes to look out for, what things are a no no in calc, etc. Make detailed notes of formulas.
She never tells you your %, just a letter grade which isnt helpful to see what grade you need for an A. Lately shes been collecting homework each class, so just do the homework. I dont recommend her, but since shes only bus calc proff handle her and go to the TLC; they will help. Practice problems in back of book and understand how to apply it.
I never had an issue with math up until this class. We would have 2 chapters a day, however she would only teach us 1 chapter and basically expect us to self teach ourselves the other chapter. She collects homework randomly. She'd spend more than half the class going over homework rather than teaching us a new lesson. I highly don't recommend.
I love math, but this professor doesnt teach or help you. Kinda rude when you dont know an answer and no study guides!! Lectures are pointless because she doesnt go over an examples, she just talks. TLC people helped me so much with logic of problems. You will need to really study for her test and practice problems. Only bus calc so suck it up
If a another proff teaches this class, Bus students please take them. Marlene is super nice, but if you wanna spend nights of anxiety teaching urself concepts and looking online or tlc from help youll ruin ur gpa. I practiced problems, went to tlc, went over exams, but im still at C++. No study guides, just problems in text which is never like exam
Worst teacher I have ever had. For the test reviews she would simply tell us to go over the review problems at the back of the chapter. No study guides. For the final exam review she told us to go through all review problems at the back of every chapter. Homework is collected at random
wow, so i got a 92 on the final and ended up with a B. A good grade, but she's not a good proff. Study guides has nothing to do with exams, and final was more simple and not too complex. Hard course, but im glad i dont have to retake another class. Please dont take Marlene, no study guides or helpful feedback. I used the tlc which helped.
Marlene is good one on one, but i wish we had study guides similar to exams. The text was more complex like problems for a physicist or chem major;were bus students. For exams i went to Tlc and had all my questions ready. I asked ?'s in class and practiced even problems and understood process. made sure i knew why i took integral, anti, etc. got B:)
her preparation for exams needs work. I studied revoew questions and books in text, but still only got 3 super high scores. The other two i got D and F. My D was replaced with final to a 92/100. Went up one letter grade; B! I studied with students in class and talked to tlc. I needed a 92 on that exam i scored D to get an A; save urself and avoid
Very nice and smart woman. She applied problems in business terms and why it's important for bus majors to understand! We did not get study guides; the text was our study guide. As i wrote each problem, i wrote it step by step and paid attention to signs. Integrals can be tricky so make sure to practice a lot and get familiar with diff problems
Grade is based on tests and 2 lessons' worth of hw every night collected randomly. Doesn't ever finish the second lesson so you need to learn it yourself. Lectures the whole period yet doesn't finish both lessons. Puts people on the spot. The tests are literally 10 questions never any multiple choice with an exception to one time. Don't recommend.
Marlene is a very sweet and caring woman, and I really hate to say this about her, but she's not the best of math teachers. Her lectures don't help much in understanding the material, her tests are almost nothing like the homework, and she collects HW at random, as if to catch you off guard. You'll have to learn the material in the TLC lab or online
Kind person and all but not the best teacher. Doesn't finish the lessons nor ever explains clearly. Lectures just skim sample problems without thorough explanation. Like 85% of the class dropped out by the end. Only 2 people got A's. 3 B's. Everyone else failed. Screw up one or two tests and you're done for.
Demerjian is an awesome math professor. The expectations for her class were very clear. If a person follows along in lecture and understands the concepts well enough to do the homework without looking at a solutions guide, then they should succeed in her class. Math has some profound concepts, and Demerjian encourages students to appreciate this.
Dont be scared of Professor Demerjian because of her rating. I genuinely enjoyed her class and shes an awesome professor. She cares for her students and prepares you really well for exams. I highly recommend her, just study and do your job as a student and youll have no problem getting an A.
How do I even start. I don't normally write reviews for teachers, but this one was horrible. DO NOT TAKE HER whatever you do. If you are pretty good at math, and already know most this, then I guess you could teach yourself along. Otherwise if you're so so at math DO NOT. Your grade is your tests. Lectures are meaningless. Worst teacher I ever had
No study guide. Doesn't fully explain the problems. I would rather read the textbook than learn from her. Spends half the time going over homework. Doesn't teach lectures properly. She also makes the most simple things, seem very complicated. I had a math teacher before that was actually good, and going to her... well it just showed how bad she is
Three students received a B or better, most failed. The homework is onerous requiring at least 20 hours per class session. Tests are convoluted questions from the book - not from the homework. Tests reviews did not represent concepts from the tests. I was not expecting easy, however, she is unreasonable.
I was hesitant to take her when I read some reviews but she definitely was not bad at all; I actually liked her. I will say that she covers surface-level examples & the hw can be much more complicated. 1/2 the class is spent going over hw usually. She was still very nice and willing to help. Tests have even problems from the textbook. good choice
Her lectures were AMAZING; however, her tests did not reflect that. Her tests were not necessarily difficult, but they were out of only 50 points and she graded them extremely harshly. One small mistake could tank your test grade. Kind professor, not the worst one to take, but the tests really take away from her good aspects.
Yea she was a pretty tough teacher. That being said, I genuinely enjoyed this class. Her lectures are awesome even if you hate math. The tests are challenging, yet doable and she has a comprehensive review session for every hw assignment. Its upper div math , so ofc youll have to work your ass off for an A, but its nowhere near impossible.
DO NOT TAKE HER. One of the worst professors at COC. Calculus II is already quite a hard course but she tries every way possible to make it harder. You'll be spending most of your time on homeworks. There is no test guide for you to study from and tests are not what we do in homework or class. Very tough grader. If you love yourself, don't take her
I took this class in person at the start of the semester. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we were forced to adapt to an online class, however, our professor wasn't accommodating. Wouldn't answer questions, would like to play tricks on tests, and was rude to students. Don't recommend taking this class with her, even in person.
You see, the semester started out great. Then, she turned to the dark side. Her lectures are scatter brained and she will never explicitly answer any question you ask. She grades very critically and refuses to be understanding, especially when our class turned to online due to COVID. She expects you to be able to teach the entire course by the end.
The worst teacher! I have taken classes with professors who have been difficult, but professor Demerjian is by far the worst!! She was super inconsiderate with the fact that we has to switch to remote learning. She did not give us the opportunity to raise our grades at all. The review for the final was so vague and nothing was on the test.
I thought that Professor Demerjian was great. I recommend her for Calculus II.
Dr Demerjian is a good professor by engaging with students. However she crams into doing homework problems first, then does half of the lecture and over explaining doing problems her way. However she needs to prep her exams better when the homework & study guide are nothing alike. Do not take her if you dont have a strong math background
The most ridiculous professor ever. I've had bad professors before and never had the anger to write a review but she takes the cake. I advise you at all cost to avoid her. Our class started with around 20 students at the beginning of the semester and now we're down to 9. If that doesn't tell you something then go ahead and wish you all the best.
Professor Demerjian cares about the growth of her students' character, not just their knowledge; she is very patient and encouraging, especially to students who want to learn. The material is easily mastered as long as you actually study; know your stuff, though--you may find a trick question on the exam. No profanity either--a real gem.
Terrible professor. Her lectures did not even cover half of the material in each lesson we had to complete. We then had to read through the textbook again in order to teach ourselves and she expected that we knew everything on the test. Do not take her under any circumstances.
She expects her students to learn everything on the dot and grades like a menace on HW (super unclear as to what she wants). Tests aren't that bad and you get one retake. Tests/hw only things graded. Wastes a lot of time covering HW problems (she literally takes up 1.5 hrs answering questions). You gotta be gifted or go OT on studying to get an A.
0/10 would not recommend do not take this class if you are someone who actually needs explanations to learn along with examples. Even when you told her that you didn't get a part she put on a confused face and just briefly re-explained it and moved on to the next.
Look dude. Only reason she got a 2 is bc she's enthusiastic abt teaching. HOWEVER. She seriously doesn't know how to, let alone how to help students with the HW, which by the way, she spends about half the class time bc she goes WAY to in-depth into a SINGLE problem. If you're a genius and can teach yourself this class, take her lol.
By far my most pleasant experience over in the Math department had to be with Professor Demerjian. She had a very strong work ethic, and a clear criteria that as long as you put the effort in you will surely succeed in class! You will likely enjoy the material, and given the standards for a 5-unit class, your commitment will carry you to the end.
Taking her class, while very challenging, she was engaging, very caring, and overall a great teacher! HW IS SUBSTANTIAL. Expect to spend 3-6 hours on it and do not procrastinate. You WILL have to study (understandable considering the course), but you will leave the class with a thorough understanding. Take her if math is important for your career!
The worst teacher ive ever had stay away
Professor Demerjian is a great professor who genuinely cares about the success and growth of her students. She will address student weaknesses in material. Her lectures were amazing and made me enjoy calculus even more than I did. I always went to her office hours. The class does have plenty of homework(that can be tough) but she goes over in-class
Cares about her students, she's probably one of the most tactfully blunt people I've ever met, it's quite fascinating and impressive. You're gonna know exactly where you messed up and feel a bit bad about it, but not embarrassed or singled out. It's clear she loves math and she takes feedback from her students and helps.
The rudest teacher I have ever had doesn't give you your grade till the week before the final so much homework wastes an hour reviewing it each class period not receptive to feedback I even had to go to the dean-based on some of her actions Stay away if you have to take this teacher wait a semester.
STAY away at all costs
There's so much homework given that doesn't apply to tests at all there is no study guide for tests you not allowed to see your grade throughout the semester she is incredibly unhelpful and this is not the math teacher you want.
This class and professor were challenging. Absences will put you behind. I had to pay full attention because missing small details could leave you lost. Use tutoring if available. The homework can be overwhelming but manageable and is collected randomly. Do well on the exams. The lowest test score is replaced by the final. Good luck!
Professor Demerjian does have a different way of teaching but it works. Grades were not shared until mid semester, however she does explain how you can calculate it. Ask questions for clarification. She likes to see where students make mistakes so she can then understand where errors occur. Her enthusiasm for math is great! Would take her again!
This class was a real challenge, but using resources like Unstuck study alongside the textbook helped me stay on top of the material. The professor's teaching style takes some getting used to, but she cares about student growth.
From student to student, avoid her if you can.
I LOVED her. If you want a good grade always talk during class. She will answer any question. Write everything down, it helps during homework. She goes over homework questions during class and it has helped! She drops lowest test score from final. The people who answer questions and get things wrong, get the best grades. Dont miss class!
