Marni is an excellent teacher - makes the subject area very interesting and challenges you to think outside the box. Exams and assignments were fairly marked.

Marni rocks! interesting lecturer...you can tell she cares and is interested in what she lectures on. A fair marker...the exams are not too bad. I would love to take a class with her again! and the fatc that shes HAWT...well that makes it a double bonus!

i didn't know what to expect from this class but i really ended up enjoying it. first time i've seen an entire class particpate and genuinely get passionate about discussing, myself included! my fav. class so far at douglas. prof was really funny, helpful, and clear. i highly reccommend taking her.

I had her class for the very first time in my life, and I did have A BLAST! She is very good, a little tough on the marking, I have had an exam where I could have scored a near perfect, ended up getting docked, but THAT IS OK... I had a VERY GOOD EXPERIENCE W/ HER....HIGHLY RECOMMEND, WITH A DOSE OF WORKING HARD AND COMPLETE ALL HER ASSIGNMENTS...

Wow her class was easy and she wants you to do well. She is entertaining and cares about what she is teaching. She is an awesome teacher and if you can take her class I suggest you do.

Shes AWESOME! everyone should take her for womens studies. Just make sure you show up to all her classes because her notes correspond with whats going to be on the tests. Just make sure to write detailed notes, her class is awesome she makes you laugh. & if you pay attention in class this will be an easy gpa booster!

By far the best prof I've had at Douglas in my 2.5 yrs. She cares about her students and does her best to make class interesting. She is very approachable and down to earth. If you don't take a class with her you're missing out BIG TIME!!!

WOW, amazing teacher..4assignments worth 10% each, 2 Tests and 1 final. final is on the last day of class; consist of 10mc and 10t/f..her test are a breeze...pretty straight forward. if you JUST study the notes she provides you'll atleast get an A on the tests. course was exctremely interesting, cause marni was so awesome!!TOTALLY RECOMMEND!!!!!!!!

Marni is so wonderful. She is funny, and down to earth and remembers what it's like to be a student. She really cares and wants students to do well, she makes it really clear whats going to be on exams and exams are based on her notes, so just show up and you'll do great. I will definitely be taking a class with her again

Marni is so wonderful. Her lectures are always interesting and entertaining. I didn't ever want to miss a class! Her tests and exams are very reasonable but you do need to take good notes. Study your notes carefully and you will get an A!

Lectures are interesting and informative

I've taken two courses with her-SOCI 2230 & 2235. I like the way she lectures. She's very energetic and seems to love teaching. She's rather like an actress! since she uses her whole body when she's really into the topic. Midterm and final are fairly easy but I found her assignmets pretty tough. Except that, I like her class, plus her cool outlooks

Laid back class. Marni showed a documentary every week, and as long as you pay attention during these and the lectures and read the textbook, you'll be set for the exams. Marni is very down-to-earth and approachable. I recommend her.

I took this class in my first semester at Douglas and Marni was AMAZING! I highly recommend any of her classes because I swear this woman can do no wrong. You don't need the textbook in class but it's very helpful for the tests (which were difficult but very fair.) You'll enjoy your time with her for sure.

Marni is extremely passionate about what she is teaching and she makes an effort to address students by their name rather than "you". Final and Midterm were fairly simple as long as you reviewed. Also required was 3 very short assignments which didnt take much time if you read the article provided. Currently taking my second class with her!

Marni is a very knowledgeable Prof! She clearly knows her stuff and she loves what she teaches. Very approachable and straight to the point. She also has her own notes which are highly recommended. Mark breakdown: MT - 25%, Finals - 30%, Written Assignments (3) - 15% each. Assignments aren't essay based. You read research papers and answer a few Qs

Marni was a great prof! Although I didn't quite enjoy the class all too much due to the long lectures and dull topics discussed in class I still recommend anyone INTERESTED in sociology to take her. She tries her best to make the class not fall asleep during boring topics and is very clear with her notes. 1 mid term 1 final 3 assignments.

She is a great person teaching a dry subject. She tries her best to make it enjoyable and it works. Do not underestimate her test and grading though. I thought this class would be a breeze but it had greatly brought down my GPA. Not many opportunities to gain marks (3 Test+2 Written Assignments total) so try from the start or it will hurt.

Recommendable class. she is a really great teacher. everything is so clear on exams and assignments. if you give little effort on class, you would get an A. 3 exams was mixed both short essays and multiple choices properly. I would take another class of her.

Marni is such an amazing teacher ! she is very organized and has the best interest of her students , she wants everyone to do well, as long as you study her lecture notes you will do well on her test, take advantage of her office hours and asks questions if you don't understand the material great GPA booster :)

I had Marni for sociology 1125, and it was an awesome class. She is an amazing teacher! Her lectures are interesting and she is energetic and lively. Her tests are extremely easy. 2 papers, and 3 tests for this class. She is a easy marker and provides all information for the papers and gives good feedback. Easy course and awesome teacher!

Going to Marni's classes are long, but great. She gives awesome examples and stories to clarify the theories/topics. Her lectures are engaging, fun, and hilarious. She is clear about what she expects, and she's there to help you if you're stuck. Would definitely take a course with her again.

Marni's a very funny and charismatic prof. Her lectures are informative/helpful and can be hilarious at times. Slides are detailed and closely related to her exams and her assignments were pretty straightforward.

Marni was a really good teacher! I could stay a whole 3 hours of class with her because she is a very funny and enthusiastic person. However, she is a tough marker especially when it comes to the written questions. But she is still a good teacher and she is really good at answering questions especially during her office hours.

Amazing lectures. She's like that aunt that doesn't have any kids. Great sense of humour. 3 tests spread out so it's really nice and you get to learn and not memorize them and 2 essay. The essay is fairly easy, very similar to a reflection paper. Book is also online so that's also really nice, you don't have to spend more money.

Best prof I have ever had. She is passionate about what she is teaching and does everything she can to help everyone get the best mark possible. Criteria is very clear and concepts are explained so well. She is also super funny and personable, so it's easy to feel comfortable asking for help. Her social processes class is an easy A.

interesting lectures, not dry because marni is so funny. there is a textbook which i got because i like to compare lecture notes to get extra info from the book. if you takes notes really well in class on the lecture slides (which she elaborates on) you might not need it. straight forward exams, decent amount of effort needed for the 2 assignments

(Online COVID class) Dr. Marni is a great professor! She posted narrated powerpoints so you could learn at your own pace. Tests were all MC (super easy), and a couple easy assignments. She posted the PDF of the textbook online too, so you dont have to buy it (bonus points!)

Marni is an extremely caring and fair prof. Her asynchronous lectures were so good I didn't even read the textbook (and still got an A in the course)! I loved how there were no group projects OR papers, just a handful of easy homework assignments, a couple article analysis, and two exams (not cumulative)!! Also, she provides good feed back.

Marni is a true gem, she is a wonderful prof, and her class is so easy. Lectures were pre-recorded, and her exams were a piece of cake. Different assignments lets you boost your mark, as they are all really easy.

Dr. Westerman is very caring and is always ready to help and clear doubts. It was a bit hard to understand what she expected from us for papers but it was definitely interesting and worth the read. She has asynchronous interesting lectures and has a interactive weekly meet. I loved the course structure, it was clear and simple. Easy-Medium MCQs.

Professor Marni Westerman is a fantastic teacher. She relates her content well and makes it interesting for you to learn. She doesn't keep track of attendence except when its a test date. Super reachable by email. Uses PowerPoints for her lectures to make note-taking easy. Assignments are fair as long as you put the work in. Overall, she's great.

I love the way she splits the curriculum into three midterms, and every midterm only covers 3-4 chapters. If you attend her lectures, you should get a good grade in this course.

Understanding, nice, & helpful. Lectures are nice, gives you slides & summary notes that help w/ notetaking. Class divided into 3 exams (not cumulative, 3-4 ch in each) makes it less stressfull. 2 easy writing assignments. You have to submit weekly chapter notes. Always there to explain and help. Reading is heavy. Overall loved her and the class!

Great prof. Very caring and easily accessible by email. Tests were very easy if you listen to the lectures and Dr. Westerman is very understanding if you can't make it to class. We used an free online textbook, but it was never used for exams. 100% recommend as an elective or if you're interested in sociology.

Marni was amazing to have my first semester. Her lectures are very engaging, despite just being slideshows. There are 3 tests, 2 article analyses, and a video worksheet every week that only takes about 10 minutes. The tests are definitely not hard as long as you do some reviewing. I am hoping to take one of her classes again!

Only two assignments which are article analysis', took some time to do, but very easy to get a good grade. Only three tests each covering about three or four chapters, all weighted at 20%. I just studied off the lecture slides, didn't buy textbook, and got an A on all my tests. Would recommend her class, she is hilarious and chill.

Marni was one of the best profs I've had at Douglas. She responds quickly to emails, is easy to talk to about assignments and is passionate about the material. I feel like she made it very clear what was expected for each assignment so doing well felt straight forward.
