I dropped the class but from what I could tell it was easy and she seemed to be very fair.

She will help if you stay on her
She's okay, but you have to really study to get her class, and take your own notes to fully understand.
Information packed class and great instructor.Like any class , if you want an A you must study
Nice person, boring subject, tests are hard to study for because they cover so much information, doesn't assign books for the class, all ECR readings, this makes it hard to study also.
Really good professor. Took 2 classes with her and enjoyed them both. There are a lot of readings but the actual assignments are not too much at all.
This teacher means business. She is a little lady and commands your respect and attention. Tests are a little hard so you do have to study. Better not to miss her class, participation really helps. Class assignents arent difficult just take some time. She uses ECR readings and she does ask questions of the class. Be prepared. Fair teacher.
Great Professor. I had two classes with her. She is always prepared and interested in the material. She does assign quite a bit of reading and designs tough tests. But she is a tough prof. in a good way!
Do not take her
I had her for RCG, i loved the class when i went but missed a whole lot of days. participation is important, really interesting class... lots of ecr readings but they are interesting... tough tests but ok if you go to all the classes. she gives a review sheet... i wish i went to class more cause i feel like i missed out on it!!
STUDY>>>>STUDY.....uhhh oh yeah STUDY! Carry your book with you and study. Really I am serious. YOu have been warned!
If you take good notes you can get by without the book or the reading material. The test are tough but they are based on what she goes over in class.
I think the material's pretty easy and strightforward as long as you go to class and take notes. Uses ECR a lot, but she reviews most of them in class, so you can get by without reading them.
Very fair professor, class isn't too terrible if you take good notes and actually at least skim over the ECR readings (there are alot). Write down the examples discussed in class, those are always good for your essays. Exams aren't bad if you study your notes and the reading questions she gives. If you need any help at all she is very willing.
She is always in a good mood and makes the information interesting. She is very clear on assignments and due dates and takes full class periods to review for exams. The tests are a little hard but there are a lot of other easy assignments to balance it out. I never used the text book once and still got a good grade.
you must love reading to get a B in this class....she gives difficult tests but easy assignments....the way to pass this class is by reading ALOT...and i mean ALOT
Interesting class. Take really good notes, and read the text and ECR articles if you want a chance at passing. Attendance is mandatory. She passes a class roster around everyday for you to initial to prove you were there. Tests are difficult even though she reviews...it's alot of information to learn. Indifferent about recomending her as a teacher
Tough class must study because i just dont understand her still and ive been spending alot of time
good teacher, very understanding, very excited about teaching the material
Professor will give you enough instructions, FOLLOW THEM to the T. Very detail oriented. Ask questions, she helps everyone. Be on time, do your homework. Listen to instructions. She is very knowledgeable about the subject. Very nice and honest. Her test are fair, if you study.
Professor is very positive. Ask questions if you are not sure, she is very detail-oriented and particular. Class gives fair chance to earn good grade and fair tests. ( U must do your readings !) Some of the topics are taken out of proportion and are very unrealistic, but that is not professor's fault.
She never gives extra credit assignments for students to compensate for her purposefully tricky exams, and her grading technique is awful, eg point deductions for typos and omissions dollar signs in figures.
Although she is easy, her class is so boring I would rather sit in the hallway and wait for my next class than to sit in hers. She repeats herself and I feel like i learn nothing.
She is an amazing professor. She made me decide to add Sociology as a major. I love her. She's helpful and will let anyone talk in class discussions. She is very helpful and nice. The class is a little difficult, and she is a tough grader. Read the book and listen to her instructions and you'll do well.
Horrible class, horrible book. Mandatory and has nothing to do with my major, just a major waste of time. Worst book ever.
Very nice teacher...attendance is a must but only because she has a sign in sheet, everything she does in class is found on blackboard. three test the whole semester and 2-3 homeworks (Extremely easy). Fair Grader just do the homeworks they boost your grade.Enjoy!!!
Great Professor! Very fair in grading...but do need to read the materials (readings) that are posted on BB.
Pretty good teacher, kind of boring, needs to put in more interaction with some of her students.
Very pleasant but hte single hardest grader I've EVER had. I almost gave up. Tests are all essay.
If you can go to class and just listen to her talk about power points everyday no interaction at all. People were always falling asleep it was hard to be engaged especially when attendence is mandatory! Test are difficult with 2 essay questions as well. Don't talk her if you want more than just a lecture!
READ THE READINGS! I wish I would have know in advance. Has it's interesting moments, points out things I never paid any attention to.
Don't mistake her mild shyness for being stern--she's extremely friendly. Subject matter expert! If you do the work you'll be rewarded with exposure to 90% of what's out there on a particular topic. Fair tests, fair grading. Extremely student centered--she'll work with you to show you how to get the grade you want. A great experience overall.
Truly enjoyed her class. It was challenging but I learned so much. She is a true expert on the subject and was not afraid to challenge our own preconceived notions about race and inequality. Grades very fairly. Has a good mixture of lecture time and discussion.
LOVED this professor! The course was super easy as long as you study exactly what's on the study guide. She reviews concepts continuously and clearly until everyone understands. Very helpful and nice! Highly recommend taking one of her courses! :-)
Boring and whats on the study guide isn't what the test is on.
No book. used only clicker and very few in class assignments. grade was based off of only clicker and test. no extra credit options. very quiet speaker and class seems to drag on. for a sociology class there is not enough interaction among students
There's no book, but a clicker is used and used for attendance. Her power points are put online before classes, there were data sheets done in class occasionally, tests weren't that hard if you studied, multiple choice, short answer and an essay response. There WAS extra credit occasionally, but class does seem to drag on sometimes.
Very good teacher and very clear lecture. She is the best one.
She is one of the BEST professors i've had.
She's very clear when lecturing & truly tries to get students to participate, which I appreciated. She's totally willing to meet with students if they ask for help. If you read the reading assignments, study for her tests, go to class, and complete the assignments, you'll do fine. Nothing beyond the usual here. Her class is pretty straight forward.
I loved this class
She talks way too fast, and gets off topic easily.
There is a lot of reading but Dr. Rodriguez is very willing to help and give a clear explanation. She truly engaged with the class and is passionate which make her class fun and worth going to.
Dr. Rodriguez uses clickers for in-class quizzes and some statistical analysis based on the class. I thought the class was very fun and very informative. Learned of the privileges and disadvantages of all groups based on race, class, andor gender. Also, NO TEXTBOOK but online reading assignments are required for daily quizzes.
She knows what she is talking about and her lectures are pretty clear. There is not a lot of work to be graded in this class so it was tough to stay above a B if you bombed a paper or test. She does clickers for points on random days so make sure you go to class.
I'm not going to get an A in this class, but I still think it was one of the most informative and well structured classes I have ever taken. Her tests are HARD, and she expects you to show up and read, but it honestly isn't a tough course overall as long as you show up and take notes. Bonus: NO TEXTBOOK! online readings only
Dr. Rodriguez is a very sweet person and very knowledgeable on the subject of Race, Class, and Gender. Her class is tough and there is plenty of reading to do, and she is a tough grader, but no book and in class assignments outweighing homework makes the class fun. I would take a class with her again.
AWFUL PROFESSOR
Really, really great professor. Extremely clear and concise and the coursework is easy as long as you show up to the class for the lectures. The readings are easy and the lectures are actually very interesting even if your major is not related to sociology at all. Also, all of her lecture notes are posted on blackboard
Gets easily distracted and does not like when students make ANY noise. She does not need more than an hour to teach classes, and she definitely needs to make class more interesting. Overall not one of my favorite professors and she needs to improve her teaching.
There is a lot of reading to do for this class. Lectures are clear and she puts up study guides for the exams. Helpful if you go and ask questions on what you don't understand. Thought the class would be more interesting though. Tests are pretty difficult
Rodrigues is very knowledgeable in her field and is generally respected by students. I would take her again.
There is no book, but assigned reading online before each class period. She words her test alittle tricky, & you need to know the exact theories & who said what. If you do need help she is very helpful to explain what you did wrong on the test. Clicker points are a big part, so dont miss class! you will be assigned to a group for projects
Expect Homework & Get Ready to Read: She assigns several readings in replacement for the textbook - which is nice / bad depending on how you learn. Gives extra credit: Called Clicker Questions - Part of attendance, and if people aren't on their phones she gives superb bonus points
She assigned us group work, and the group we were in was our group for the entire semester. Be prepared to get to know your classmates. Always participate. She doesn't give extra credit for it, but it does actually help you retain info. Always always always read the course readings for the week so you can do the clicker questions, or you won't pass
A good professor, and a good class. Relatively straight forward, just read the articles and participate in class discussion and you should be good. Attendance isn't required, but if you miss the clicker questions it will affect your grade.
She was very good. She knows he stuff and gets it across very clear. You'll need to buy a clicker for the class but no textbook, which is nice. Be there, pay attention, and do maybe half the readings and you'll get a B. She's nice and a good teacher. Enjoyable.
She's a straight forward professor who will go through the material, make it relatable and explain its relevance. If you just show up and stay on top of things, the homework and material really isn't hard.
I had to drag myself to class. So boring. SO much unnecessary reading that you have to do to get clicker points. Also, she grades so hard its ridiculous. You could have one word changed in a sentence and she will mark points off. I think she knows no one wants to be in her class so she gives busy work. I got an A on all my exams because I studied.
She's a lovely woman who is passionate about her field. She's available for consult when you need her. There was a lot of reading in this class, and only a fraction appeared on the exams. Exams are tough, so find a study buddy. Research logs count as extra credit and are a great way to boost your grade. Apply yourself and you will do fine.
Professor Rodriguez was extremely biased in every subject she talked about. Non-factual; very opinion-based. No textbook, very quiz heavy about previous days notes.
She teaches at a graduate level. She may seem caring but insensitive to your circumstances outside the classroom.
Did not provide any guidance or feedback on quantitative analysis.
This class is not an "Easy A" elective. There are a lot of tedious readings, although optional, you'll need to read plenty to think about coming close to getting an A on a test. Her tests are very opinionated, and hard. Nice person, she cares, but she will stab you in the back while smiling. Meaning, don't schedule a meeting if you don't study.
If you want an easy A elective this is not the one for you. VERY boring lectures also to mention you need to buy a response card to get credit for ATTENDANCE. Her class is mostly based on her stupid readings she assigns which are all like 12+ pages long. Tests are very opinionated/difficult and she is a very hard grader.
Marnie, seems to be a caring and knowledgeable professor. However, the truth is she is a tough grader on her assignment. Her test may seem easy but they are NOT. This is certainly not an easy A or fun course. DO NOT TAKE HER, you will regret it!
She is a very knowledgeable teacher who has a clear grading criteria and expectations for the class. The tests aren't too bad if you pay attention and take good notes in class.
I had Marnie for SOC 353, her exams are heavily based on her lectures, and as long as you go to class she gives practice that you do together and she gives you credit for it. She also offers bonus points for a weekly research log where she will give you feedback and helps boost your graded. Must go to class to get a good grade though.
She's a great person but I had a very hard time learning from her. Her grading is very tough, i've received a 17.9/20, she grades by .10. You have to buy a clicker no textbook, her lectures are informative but non-engaging. There are readings that have to be done before every class period.
She was absolutely horrible. No clear instructions. Very boring. I do not recommend her at all!!! However she is very respectful and kind.
Tough, took the class online with her. She was such a hard grader for a 101 class. I have never done so bad in a class and seeing 5/10 on most assignments was hard even after doing everything that she asks for. Tests are hard, a lot of information in one 40 question test over small detailed information.
A good class that has a lot of in class conversations and debate. Participation is mandatory but not by talking, instead there is a remote that is purchased where you get points for answering, without having to talk in class. We went online halfway through the semester and she was very accommodating to the changing times.
Highly recommend Professor Rodriguez! Such a great professor. Exams weren't too bad at all, she allowed one full sized piece of notebook paper to use as a cheat sheet, which she would collect after turning in the exam. As for the clicker, it's cheaper to download the app and get the subscription on your phone. Overall great class!
I liked taking this course but the class could function better. I hate how the exams are only 30pts and are the same as homework, clicker pts, etc. I got a high A on all 3 tests but still struggled to get above a C. Beware of trick questions; she'll have them on the exam which is pointless imo. Lots of reading but manageable and interesting.
This class is difficult for no reason. clicker activity is a large portion of your grade. If u get one of the questions wrong it automatically brings your grade down. If you miss one class, u are automatically behind unless u have a friend in the class from whom you can get notes(I don't). Interesting class but I really dislike the professor.
I've had Prof Rodrigues in two different classes and she was difficult in both of the classes. She also makes all of the homework and quiz's extra difficult and she does not tell specifics of what will be on the exams. Each time I am looking for classes for the coming semesters I am looking for ones without this professor.
Prof. Rodriguez is straight to the point with assignments so you're not confused. She is also good at answering emails. her grading is straight forward and consistent. Attendance isn't mandatory but you need to have a friend in the class to get notes from cause her power points are bare. She teaches from studies and facts, not her own opinions
Absolutley terrible
Not clear about the homework. changes what you have to do in class and then when you go to turn it in, its wrong because it is not what the directions say. If someone brings up a good point in class, she changes the whole lecture around and makes everyone confused (I have asked others around me, they agreed). Not a good teacher!
I would take her again. There was a lot of group work, but my group was good. Prof is always available for office hours and even offers to zoom as an option. She is very passionate about mentoring and teaching students. She will help you with anything you need.
Of all classes, learned the most here. No textbook, instead you read journal articles. This class prepares you for other soc courses because you will be an expert at reading journal articles. Prof is available after class and gives the best feedback on assignments. breaks down WAC assignments into easy chunks. You have to read take this WAC course
I cannot recommend prof R enough! She is for sure the best prof I've had since college started, she's amazing at teaching and makes sure everyone clearly understands the material and if they don't she takes the time to explain. I used to Hate group work but she made me love it! I really hope to take another one of her classes again in the future.
I had Dr. Rodriguez for an online SOC101 class, while a lot of my fellow peers complained about how she taught (which wasn't much besides recorded lectures & slides.. as it was an online class...) I thought she was great, very quick to respond to questions/emails, but she is a very strict grader.
She is an awful grader- do not take this course if you want to be irritated over points being docked over petty reasons. The weekly assignments (2-4 wkly) were only 1pt with only 6 major assignments being 50pts+. The material was interesting enough but she was boring. No EX credit. Exam study guides were a joke- info didn't even show up on exams!
Prof. Rodriguez was a great teacher. Quite a bit of lecturing, but mixed in with class discussion, which was encouraged. Explained things well, gave examples, and always willing to answer questions, in and out of class. Multiple reading assignments per week, followed by questions. Reading was a lot, but worthwhile. Questions graded for completion.
Professor Rodriguez was a great professor. If you have a question about anything, she is always available through email and she will always respond. As long as you take good notes from the lectures and answer the reading questions, the tests should be easy. Also, she allows a full sheet of paper back and front for the tests.
I've taken several of her classes, and my mom even took one when she was in college. She's pretty easy-going, and while it can be tough to aim for an A if you miss a class or two, overall, it's not that difficult. You just need to stay on top of your work and attend class regularly.
good luck cuz you'll need it
