Although I found her class challenging, it was a good challenge. I learned a great deal in her classroom. The text was boring and often contridicted itself, but Fazio was very knowledgable in her field and made it interesting.

She is very rude when you give an incorrect answer. She is also grades hard on no papers and doesn't allow any exceptions for anything.
This is a very tedious class, but you will really learn a lot if you put forth the effort. Dr. Fazio expects a lot out of her students, but she will offer up as much help as you need. She makes it clear not to feel bad if you have a wrong answer, because she will help you figure out why you were confused. She's a great instructor.
Dr. Fazio is the Bomb!!! This class, Rhetoric and Grammar, should be required by every student entering the University. I would disagree with the "rude" analysis; she just doesn't take any smack, and she doesn't let the class get sidetracked. I've learned more in this class than either Eng 101 or 102. Fazio is a valuable asset to ASU West.
She expects the whole class to participate, but when you do, she shoots you down. I go to the west campus, and i am going to make the trop to main next semester because she is teaching three classes that i need...and i refuse to take any of her classes again!
Dr. Fazio is one of the best teachers I've had at ASU West. She is very thorough in answering questions, either in class or by e-mail. She is straight-forward and tells you exactly what she expects. Go to class and do your assignments. Do not take it personal when she says your answer is incorrect - she only wants you to learn and you will!!!
This class is ridiculously technical. Its like the math of english and Dr. Fazio isn't much of a help. She is disorganized and technologiclly retarded. I had 9 semesters of straight As in English before this class and I'm killing myslef for a B. She expects too much! Don't take it if you don't have to!
Dr. Fazio does not clarify what content is acceptable and what is not in regards to essay assigments. I wrote what was a PG13 paper at worst and she gave me an F for inappropriate content. Is a hard ass about showing up tardy, had asked to see me after class ONLY to tell me "don't be late to my class."
Tough, but will help you learn a lot if you put forth the effort. Many people are intimidated by her, but truthfully she's really funny and only wants to help. Be prepared to work hard, but know that it will be worth it. I learned so much from her.
Absolutely horrible. Doesnt help at all and wants you to participate but shoots down answers. Makes you feel stupid for asking questions especially on exams. She's annoying and horrible. I regret having to take another class with her next semester.
I have found that students either love or hate Prof. Fazio. Yes, she may be intimidating at the beginning, but she will go out of her way to help you. I honestly learned so much from her class. Do all assignments, homework, and show up to EVERY class. Overall, a fairly easy class. Plus, my writing and use of grammar has greatly improved.
Dr. Fazio is one of the most kindess professors I've ever had. She is also an absolute expert in her field. She will go out of her way to help you, whether via e-mail or staying after class. Also, she is hysterically funny. She is NOT rude but expects order and professionalism in her class. Is that such a bad thing? I learned so much in her class.
Fazio is a nightmare: rude, clumbsy, unorganized, inept, and mentally unstable with pre-dementia symptoms. Please don't take her if you have to. She is the worst prof. at ASU. 99% of her class hates her guts, including me. When you talk to her, you'll quickly discover she's loonier than a the mad hatter. This lady makes no sense about anything. Sad
She's a bit psycho and overdoes it with grammar. Most of what she teaches is unnecessary. I guess she's nice but too weird to even see that most of the time.
Everyone who has made a negative comment about Fazio is most likely a poor student. ENG323 was the most useful, important class of my entire college career and Fazio tackles a difficult, often uninteresting subject - and does it well. If you have a problem with her homework or tardiness policies - well, that reflects on you, not her.
Fazio is weird, weird, weird! Are we ALL lying? Seriously, she makes no sense when she talks and she's mean. Someone said that she's clumbsy. Yeah, she is AND forgetfull. I counted down the days until I was out of their. I hope she retire's soon.
Don't listen to the negative comments. Her class is exactly what the title is, "Rhetoric and Grammar." If you don't want to learn that, take something else. She is very sarcastic and condescending at times but the class is an easy A
Fazio improves your writing more than anybody else at ASU. But that's only if you are serious about learning how to write, which takes a lot of work. And you have to take a lot of criticism. As you can see from the other comments here, the "students" who don't like her are stupid, ignorant, lazy and uneducable. Fazio is too high-powered for them.
Fazio is not a very good teacher. She is forgetful and she will is very sarcastic. I'm not sure why they allow her to teach. She'll call on you then embarass you and she forgets what she's doing. Her grading is sporadic and unfair. Fazio also has her pets and if you are not one of them, forget it. Horrible lady.
Fairly average professor...However, she lacks expertise in history and theology and often promulgates falsities. Frequently interrupts students and misinterprets answers. A nice lady; Not a great teacher.
Prof. Fazio is one of the rudest and most condescending professors that I have ever had.She talks over her students, and doesn't offer constructive criticism when she claims that you're wrong. She forgets things. All the time. For those who say bad reviews are from bad students: false. This class was unbearable.
Took the class online, takes more work than any other class EVER. 9 discussion board posts and a quiz PER WEEK, plus the papers. Teacher used outdated textbook and had conflicting assignment page numbers. Guess which is the real one, choose the wrong one and you get a zero, no exceptions.
I really haven no clue why she ended up teaching this course. The bad reviews on here are accurate: she's extremely biased, rude, interrupts, etc. If you don't agree with her POV, you might as well not talk. She has no concept of women's issues, and I venture she hates feminists. She should stick to rigid personality-less grammar courses. Amen.
Fazio is rude but she doesn't think she is. She interupts you and will not let you finish your sentence. She is very forgetful and think she knows everything and doesn't appreciate other's opinions or thoughts--only her own. Please do not take her if you can help it. You might get your feelings hurt.
Professor Fazio is a tough teacher, you NEED to do the work and attend class. I came into the class with a sour attitude because I know she is a tough grader, but I ended up with an A. If you do the work, and get on her good side you'll definitely get an A.
One of the worst professors I have ever had. She had no sympathy whatsoever when I had become ill and missed classes. She threatened that she could technically drop me from the class for my absences. Got A's and B's on assignments, recieved a C because of my absences, even after I showed her the notes from my doctor and hospital.
I have no idea why Prof Fazio is rated so poorly. I took this course online, and yes there was a fair amount of work due each week. However, as long as you do the assignments you will get a fine grade. If you exceed expectations you will easily get an A. Fazio is a fine and fair professor.
I had her online and over winter break. She was very helpful and responded quick to questions. Doing all of the homework is very important. She was tough on grading papers. But with complete participation an A is easy.
People! We pay for these classes! Dr. Fazio is essentially what I find so disappointing about higher education. More attention is paid to minor details than concepts, and the grading seems completely arbitrary at best. Do NOT take a class with Dr. Fazio. You WILL regret it.
Dr. Fazio can get a bit off task at times and sometimes it is hard to follow her teaching, however I thought she did a pretty decent job teaching the class I passed with a pretty good score in her class. However I can see how some people may have a problem with her. She can be very difficult at times but she is also very helpful.
Don't you hate it when you're smarter than your professor? That's Fazio for you. Not only is she loud, rude, and abrasive, but she has no idea what she's talkin about half the time. She's a total clown. I have no idea how she got hired. I have no idea how she even got a doctoral degree.
I have had Fazio a couple of time already and I do not understand why she has such poor ratings. She is an enthusiastic professor and I enjoy learning from her. I have seen that the people who typically do not like her are not very good students.
I took English 102 Online with Dr. Fazio and I thought she was a very helpful and nice instructor. Its true that you have work to do every week but it helps you to become a better student and writer. If you dont do the work then you will not get a good grade but for the students that put forth an effort and do the work its an easy A. Shes great!
This is my third class I have taken of hers online and I have received an A in every course. Very easy teacher. All you have to do is maybe an hour of work a week and write short discussion board posts. Highly recommend taking for a GPA boost
If one doesn't need their hand held and wants to slide in or out of class Dr. Fazio will not let you get away that. I have had 3 classes with her and highly recommend her if you actually want to learn. She got her PhD in Italy and passionate about the artists, writers and language. Missing class will hurt you, true, it did me. Show up and work!
Easy. Do the work and the reading and you'll do great.
Want a fun, laidback professor? Want to improve your writing? Look no further! Dr. Fazio is great and this class is very beneficial. Dr. Fazio is passionate about what she teaches and is fun to learn from. She offers helpful tips on how to improve your writing and is welcoming to anyone who wants to come by her office hours.
I took this class online. As long as you read the material, completely the work will be no problem. Love and Lust in Medieval Lit. was very fun and read novels I never would have touched otherwise. The readings are worth it! And Fazio is great too! She is chill and easy to talk to.
Dr. Fazio is like an endearing cross between Marisa Tomei and Fran Drescher! Love love love her. Her class is so fun, just show up, do the readings and you'll get an A. She also has great shoes - just sayin'.
Took this course online. Easy course if you keep on top of the reading and writing assignments. Essays graded by Dr. Fazio, weekly discussion posts graded by a TA. Expectations are clear, immediate grading, no surprises. Really enjoyed the course and Dr. Fazio's enthusiasm for the material.
I took this class for 8 weeks online, and it was pretty easy right until the group project. It's very difficult to collaborate with others strictly through the internet, plus group assignments always end badly anyway. Stay on top of the assignments and you'll do fine.
Loved this class and professor. Course Calendar makes the class easy to keep track of. Only negative is the Group paper at the end. I cannot stand group work for college classes. I always end up doing most of the work. Other than that one assignment it is a fantastic class.
Such a great and easy class. She is always wiling to help and is clear on what she wants for each assignment. Take this class she is GREAT!! Got an A+
This course was fairly easy, as long as your read the book and do the discussion posts and other assignments you'll do fine, I did however think some of the essay prompts were worded strange and vague making it difficult to know exactly what was being asked. Her student asst. did most the grading and was very fair. I would recommend this course.
Never again. This professor was a nightmare. Not only did her TA do most of the work but she comes across as self important as if her British English class is the be all, end all for students. C'mon. This is a required class got English majors! Had an emergency come up and she offered zero mercy. Also no late assignments. Would not recommend.
Amazing professor. Class is laid out really well with one quiz and one homework a week. Took session A online, got through it with ease. Any problems or questions she responds by email quickly and is very helpful. Had group project problems and she was very understanding and fair to both sides. Recommend her for this course!
Dr. Fazio is by far the best professor I have had at ASU! I recommend her highly. Her classes require you to participate, come to class, and work hard for your grade. Her lectures are NEVER boring. If you are an ENGLISH major, you should definitely take her classes. She is amazingly helpful and so passionate about the topics that she teaches!
Wow, this class was AMAZING. The easiest A I've ever received, in my whole life. Maybe one hour a week TOTAL to get 100% on the assignments. The readings are entertaining, yet not even necessary. Her TA grades the weekly posts, very fairly, and Prof Fazio grades the harder assignments, also extremely fairly. Finished with a 98 and put in a B effort
ENG 323 will help your writing skills. I did not expect to learn as much about improving my writing, but I was completely surprised by how much I did learn. If you want to improve your writing, take this class. Professor Fazio is sharp as a tack where writing is concerned.
This class is essential for English majors. Dr. Fazio is very clear and concise during lecture; she is always willing to help students. You will definitely need the book every day in class, and I highly recommend purchasing it before the first day as she begins lessons on the first day. I have taken many classes with Dr. Fazio. She is wonderful.
Don't be afraid, but do read and do ALL of the Modules for a Good Grade. Also She grades semi-tough, so be sure to ask questions in enough time before the assignment is due. She looks to make sure you are understanding the material, but Great Learning Experience. Only regret was skipping an assignment.
Took this class as my upper division Literacy course. Took the 7 week session and had 1 DB post + 2 replies. 1 reading quiz (open book, unlimited attempts), and 1 writing assignment every week. It's not hard but time consuming. Final paper wasn't too bad either. I didn't miss any assignments and got an A+. Just do the work on time and you'll pass!
Fazio really understands grammar, and most of the class learned a lot. I however, had a really hard time catching on and Fazio was NO help. If you don't understand the lesson the first time, good luck passing, because Grammar is the type of class where each lesson builds on top of the other. I would not take another class with this instructor.
Good class but lots of reading. Fazio is willing to help as long as you ask for it and she gives amazing feedback on papers. Would take again!
Her expectations were not always clear (we were expected to create a cover page or some other element without being told to do so, etc.) although in other regards she was a fine professor. If she sees that you're putting the effort in, she has been known to take pity and give you more points than you might expect. In person better than online.
I loved taking this class with professor Fazio. She is intelligent, interesting, and puts a lot of time and effort into her learning modules. The course work was great, and she is a pretty easy grader. As long as you do the readings, participate in discussions, and write the essays you will probably get an A.
Doesn't outline her grading requirements clearly, more often than not, and her grading is highly inconsistent in specific areas. Given the subjective nature of certain document formats used for the class (e.g., how to structure your research reports based on your data) her vagueness and unclear standards for grading made me unsure of where I stood.
Take ENG 301 with Fazio. There is 1 quiz, 1 discussion board post, and a written assignment due every week. It's more busy work than anything, and as long as you stay on top of it you'll do fine. Def recommend!
Professor Fazio proves the saying, "those that can't do, teach". She teaches communication, but can't communicate. Her grading is arbitrary and assignment requirements are very unclear. She will grade on things she did not say were part of the assignment. Late assignments, including the exam, are not accepted; which is how I went from an A to a C.
Session A online. Lots of busy work but overall a fairly easy A. Many of the requirements for each assignment are in the book, so if you don't open the book you will miss stuff (like the cover page mentioned in other reviews). Professional writing is devoid of creativity so if you follow the requirements like a robot you'll get full marks.
Dr. Fazio is amazing! I took this class thinking it was going to be difficult and that Fazio was super tough, but that is false! This class really helped my grammar and writing skills a lot! Dr. Fazio was extremely helpful too. She always checked to make sure everyone understood the material and was always open to questions. Recommend!!
Dr. Fazio shows her passion about Shakespeare. She goes over each of the five plays that she assigns in depth. You read an act at a time, which is not that difficult. There are 5 quizzes that are easy, she just uses the questions off Sparknotes. There's a take home midterm essay and a final paper, both are pretty easy if you have read the plays.
I don't think Linguistics is Dr. Fazio's thing. She raced through every chapter, especially the Phonetics and Phonology chapters, which are very difficult to comprehend if you don't have prior knowledge. She did not provide enough practice. She did not follow the study guide she posted for Exam 3, which cost me a better grade. Disappointed.
Where to begin! Professor Fazio is so wonderful! She's funny, down-to-earth, knowledgeable, and a great professor. English is her strong suit and you can tell. This class teaches you so much about grammar and allows you to work through practice to incorporate into the 2 papers she has you write. There are two other writing assignments. Recommend!!
I would not recommend taking this class unless you have creative writing experience.
I would highly recommend this class to anyone wanting to improve their writing. Dr. Fazio is extremely helpful and informative. The assignments are nicely paced and easily manageable. She's easy going and really just wants to see that you do the work and participate in class!
Took it online Session B. Each week, there's one quiz, one discussion (and 2 replies), and one 100 point assignment. A LOT of homework, but impressed with the class. It was about real life, in the actual business place, not like other worthless english classes. The work is worth it, it's really interesting. Prob wouldn't take Fazio again, though...
Allows NO late submissions. Has no problem giving complete 0's, even in extreme situations where the homework can not be done and is worth 100 points. Will even give you a 0 on an ENTIRE discussion board if your replies are late. Went from an A to a D because of one module. Also presents material in a very boring manner.
No late homework, but it is all easy. You can work way ahead so that you don't have a potential late issue. Retake on quizzes are unlimited. I never got less than an A on anything I turned in, even when I know it was not great writing. Show you made an attempt at following instructions and you can get a very easy A. Just lots of busy work.
Dr. Fazio's online ENG301 class (a course) was the easiest class I have ever taken. I got a 100% in the class. You have 7 assignments, 7 quizzes which you can retake as many times as needed, and & DB's and you have to respond to two people. There were a few difficult assignments but even with putting in 1/2 the work I still got an A+. Take her!
Passionate about linguistics, but teaching skills need work. Average day in class is her reading through the chapter she assigned the night before & annotating it for the class. She teaches from the book & provides little to no explanation or examples to it. If you try asking for clarification you're going to get a vague and patronizing response.
Take this class if your major is English, Secondary Education; you will learn so much. It's not an "easy A," but if you put in the work, she gives you all the tools you need to do well. More importantly, you will grow as a writer, and this will be valuable no matter what your career choice. Plus, she's caring and passionate about the material.
Just follow the directions and you'll pass. A moderate amount of effort is required, but it's an easy A.
Her material is rather mundane and if you're taking her class as an elective then you should probably choose another class because if you mess up slightly on an assignment you will get heavily penalized for it. I had an A in her class but because I went over the word count for one assignment she gave me a 50/100 it docked me a letter grade.
Dr. Fazio made me a better writer. I highly recommend this professor if youre serious about writing, and you want to have an even better grasp on English. She is an interesting professor and knows her stuff.
She has invaluable information, but sometimes struggles to accurately get it across or gets side-tracked. She cares deeply about her students' success and is clearly passionate about her work. The book and hand-outs are phenomenal. You WILL gain indispensable writing skills. She clearly doesn't mean to, but she can come off as condescending...
Class in summer and you need the book. There are 6 modules composed of 3 assignments (discussion board, writing assignments, and test). The last module has 4 assignments as the final report is in it. The writing assignments are completely based off of the case studies in the book so you need to have the book. She gives feedback throughout the class
Were taking this course online due to the Pandemic, and I dont know if Marsha can do this. This may not be on her cause were all stressed, however, she does not seem like shes here to teach. She shows no passion when a student gets something right, yet blows up when theyre wrong. She told us do English her way or its wrong. Would not go back.
Dr. Marsha Fazio was an excellent professor that responded quickly to messages and was very helpful! It's an easy set-up of weekly quiz, discussion board, and short writing assignment. Very easy to get a good grade in this class if you utilize the book and do your work!
She was a somewhat rude aggressive instructor who expected everyone to perfectly get 100% as everything was open book... Her test questions frequently didn't match what was shown in the book. She also didn't know how to teach online which caused issues. There were also very few chances to actually apply and test your grammar. Just buy a grammarbook
I got an easy 100% in this class simply by following her instructions and the textbook verbatim. Kind of a dry class but good for filling a credit if you need it. Just make sure you stay on top of assignments and dates because there's no late credit and not a ton of assignments.
Professor Fazio embodies the worst aspects of an English teacher: she disregards valid student interpretations of the text in favor of her own (often baseless) surface-level analysis, reads the works verbatim in class, and designs awful essay prompts that do little to facilitate higher order thinking. Avoid this class, even as an extracurricular.
Expect to read every chapter twice, as Marsha Fazio teaches directly from the textbook. She does little in the way of formulating helpful teaching methods, and she expects students to "just get" complex concepts. English is a very fluid language, yet she teaches it in strict adherence to whatever seemingly enhances her own perceived intelligence.
Overall a pretty dry and easy class. Consists of a weekly writing assignment, discussion post, and quiz. The quiz can be found online, the essays are short and simple (usually a memo of some sort), and the discussion posts are pretty self explanatory. There is a text book but you rarely use it aside from when you need to write about a case study.
This professor was not good at all. She didn't explain anything, she would assign chapters and homework and expect you to know how to do it. She would randomly call on people in class and would get upset if they didn't know the answer. In the end, everyone was just done with her and her class. Would not recommend.
I took this class over the summer online and there was not much to this class. There were 4 quizzes and two writing assignments, other than that and the chapters you read every week in the textbook there isn't anything else to help you understand the material. I ended up having to google most of the material to get better explanations of things.
She should not even be considered a professor. Gave us no resources, and test question information could not be found in anything she gave us. Never even spoke to us, completely non existent, and awful AWFUL grader who nitpicks everything you say. Moves due dates without warning and should not be in charge of an online class, or any at all. Beware.
Her prompts aren't complicated but are awkward according to course material. She is very specific on what she expects but doesn't explain it well and will not do grade corrections. Be prepared to write in only traditional English. She does not keep up with the current literature and speech and you will be at fault when she doesn't understand you.
All the assignments/discussions are extremely vague. No rubric, barely any guidelines. I would recommend a different professor, but if you have her she's not the worst.
I took this class as an icourse and found it to be easy considering it is an upper division English course. Dr. Fazio is very nice and easy to get a hold of, but her instructions are quite vague. I did need the textbook to complete all the assignments. If you do your best and follow the directions, this is an easy A+
Dr. Fazio clearly cares a lot about this class. It's not very difficult, just read the plays and you'll do fine. There's not a lot of assignments, just a paper and quiz at the end of each play. Overall, her clear love of Shakespeare really shows through and made this course fun! She listens to student concerns and just wants you to do well overall!
Dr. Fazio's class is straightforward but can be picky on assignment details. Lectures are dry, but the textbook and unstuck study help make the content manageable. If you stay on top of the work, it's an easy A.
Dr. Fazio is one of the worst professors that I have ever had the displeasure of working with. I feel bad for any students who have accommodations who take classes with her. It felt like I was arguing with her every time I mentioned using my accommodations for this class. She finds absolutely no issue with, classism and misogyny.
