Awesome teacher, he's not extremly easy, but if you give any effort at all he'll spend all day helping you work on papers, ect.

Great techer, i had for 3 sem., he gives moderate HW but allows for late turnins and gives back papers for corrections before grading.Take notes, he collects at end of sem, for easy test grade. Got all A's/ i used to fail eng. in high school.

Best teacher I've had at TCC thus far. He is one of the few teachers that can actually teach well. Like others have said, he can give a lot of work but you learn so much from his ENG 111 and 112 classes. Awesome teacher!

He turned my weakness of the subject of English into one my strengths. In 111, you write a rough draft of an essay and he'll review it. If it isn't good, you can revise it for a better grade. I got my 1st and 2nd "A" ever in an English class with him. In 112, the extra credit is a plus. Recommended.

Great teacher!! He was extremely helpful with papers and he helped me become a better writer. Also he lets you revise papers and turn them in later and you are still able to get an A!!

AWESOME teacher. He is very helpful and informative. He can be a little "odd" sometimes, but hey you can make an easy A. If you're not good at writing papers, well you don't have to be because you write your paper and he will give comments on it and ways you can fix it - you fix it and then he grades it and the FINAL grade is that second grade!

best english teacher ever!! he is super helpful and very understandin that his class may not be the only one yoru taking. if you ever need a few more days to do something, he will give you more time and if you do bad on a paper, he will let you redo it to improve your grade. took his 111 and 112 and got a's both times :)

Good instructor. Focuses more on the art of writing more so than grammer. Encouraged me to go into the english field, even though I did not. He knows his stuff and wants you to learn. mr. ellis is by far the best english teacher to ever walk and breath on the face of the planet. he allows you to show him your rough draft. he will correct it then turn in your final and if your grade is still not good you can revise it again for a better grade. gives you groupwork so the 10 papers you have to do are not overwhelming. no excuse not

Excellent teacher, exhibit great patience, and understanding for those of us who are grammar illiterate. A man of great character, he truly enjoys teaching which makes the class enjoyable. Lots of writing, however, he gives you the opportunity to revise for a better grade, plenty of opportunities for extra credit. Definitely the teacher to take.

After a horrible experience in ENG03, I thought I can never write again but I was wrong. Before that I did mediocre in high school English classes. He is very helpful. You write a rough draft essay, he'll review it with you, and review again after you get your final grade. I've had B & C essays magically transform into A- and A essays. I was able to apply my essay skills to other classes with A's as a result. Nice to chat with even if it doesn't involve class. I never understood the deal with paperclipping essays.

Awesome teacher, I'm in Eng 111 now with him and I love this class, at first I was a bit sketchy about the communities but I quickly found out how helpful they are. He is always available for extra help, and is genuinely interested in helping you out. This class is also impossible to fail. I'm definetly taking him for Eng 112 next semester.

mr ellis is a great instructor....I was intimidated by the essays at first, but i am not anymore, beware he hates frag sentences and comma splices he will drop your paper a letter grade for these infractions each, but lets you revise your papers. I would take Mr Ellis any day. Easy to talk to, and extremely helpful.

The best teache i've ever had. Very helpful and all you have to do is attend all classes and turn in all(4 papaers) on time and you will do great!

He was very helpfull and cared alot about your work and if you had any question he tried he very best to answer them for you, just don't keep skipping class or being late, he hated that alot about my class. Just turn you work on time and he'll let you redo it if there was something wrong with it.

Excellent teacher, very clear on instruction and extremely friendly, always willing to help. Allows you to revise your essays, so don't get discouraged about a low grade on the first one, correct everything he says and you will do fine.

I took Mr. Ellis for Eng. 111 and had the time of my life. He is one of the best english teachers around and will motivate you to become a writer. He gives you help when you need it, puts you into groups so that you can work together, and if you do what he tells you, you'll get an A.

Although Mr. Ellis resembles a turtle, he is an awesome professor. He is very willing to work with you and although he will slaughter your first papers he will take the time to show you what you did wrong and how not to make the same mistakes.

round two with mr. ellis...and while it turned into a giant mess with many delays on paper due dates and grading, he was there to help through it all. in the end, everything came together. work hard and show some interest in your work, and you'll more than likely get an A after revisions. be sure to be in a good group...this is HIGHLY important.

Mr. Ellis is an excellent teacher, HOWEVER, he has way too much "community" work. One or two community essays would be OK, but five is a bit of overkill, especially if you're the one with the strong grasp of English and others in the community are not. I give him high marks though, he is a good teacher and personable.

If you want to learn how to write well, take Mr. Ellis. He puts his students into communities who can work together, and he gives back papers to correct. He is one of the best professors i ever had. Hes really worth taking.

Mr. Ellis is a highly competent professor. I would not say he is extremely easy, but he is fair in grading papers. Also, he gives the student a chance to revise for a final grade. He is extremely helpful and personable.I wish there were more professors like him on TCC's campus!!!!

Took him for 20th century culture, thought it would be boring, but fun class! Good instructor for English 11 also. Great sense of humor.

Interesting professor; sincerely cared about his students. Was not fond of the community work, esp. since my community did not participate and I did a great deal of the work, but it's quite possible to earn an A while the rest of your group doesn't. Loved being able to revise papers for better grades. My writing (already good) improved immensely!

Mr. Ellis to me was the best, I had doubts the first night I saw him, but the second night I thought this professor could make a difference. He loves putting people in groups for papers, I didn't like that I ended up doing vast the work. I learned a lot more from him than I did my Eng 111 instructor.

excellent teacher! i thought this class was going to be so hard because 111 was a struggle for me but he was extremely helpful when it came to questions about papers! gives plenty of chances to bring up grades on papers! lots of papers but he doesn't believe in tests or quizzes and we rarely used the book. highly recommended

Great teacher! i hate english but i actually love his class, he has a dry but funny sense of humor and is very laid back. He gives you straight forward points on what he wants you to write for your essays and gives class time to edit and review them. I am currently in his class and I am already looking into taking him for 112!

Mr.Ellis is wonderful. I have had many professors over the years and he has left a life time impression on me. He speaks clearly and he is very understanding. He cares about all of his students. He treats everyone with respect. Offers exra credit. 3 papers (not difficult)a midterm and a final. He is very wise and has a positive view on life. Enjoy!

Ellis is an awesome teacher. I took him back in the fall of 09 and he said he wasnt teaching 112 till summer of 2010 so I waited. Just dont make a sentence fragment or your done for.

We were given a syllabus that said we had 4 essays to write on a certain topic and 1 essay written in a group with classmates as our final. That is it! Given ample amount of time to work in class on the all of the essays. Once we were given back the final grade to the essays we were allowed to revise them for a better grade. Take Professor Ellis

This is a GREAT teacher. Really EASY. Can rewrite your papers if you don't get an Aomething is wrong with you!!! TAKE HIM. This can be the class to raise your GPA.

He is a GREAT teacher. He lets you re-do ALL your papers. He tells you excetly how he wants his papers and give you previous classmates paper as examples/to help you understand the subject. The lectures canbe a bit boring but most days your in groups and they read/edit your paper. & he even goes over your paper with you as well. GREAT TEACHER!

allows you to correct your papers. he even tells you what to correct. also gives you time to let him see your paper before you turn it in, just in case there are no edits allowed on that paper. class can be sometimes boring, but it's a great class to get by.

Professor Ellis is great, dry sense of humor but witty! He allows you to revise papers until you get an A or better grade. He was very willing to assist, just make the changes he recommends and you are guaranteed a higher grade if not an A. He recommends you read chapters in book, but we never once used the book in class so don't waste your money.

Prof Marshall is a very good professor.I had him for ENG 125!If you read you will be fine!Textbook use is mandatory,attendance as well.There are two formal essays,a novel analysis and a journal report!He gives a lot of extra credit opportunities!Take him,he is very smart and easy professor!

He is very easy, because he allows you to keep redoing your papers.

He allows you to revise the majority of your papers. The last paper is handed in without revision, and then you have a group argumentation essay. Would reccomend him to anyone taking ENG 111 or ENG 112!

He can be kind of monotone and tends to repeat himself a lot. But, he's a fair grader and let's you revise most of your papers. It's a pretty straightforward class. Don't expect to be inspired if you like to write, but it shouldn't be hard to get an A.

As long as you follow directions, there shouldn't be any reason not to get an A! He isn't the most liveliest, but gives extra credit and is constantly revising papers. This was my first class at TCC and I still use his writing techniqies till this day!

This was my 2nd class with Mr. Ellis! As long as you follow his directions and use MLA format you will do fine in his class. He is always willing to help you.

Mr. Ellis is a nice man and he is clear on directions. There are only four essays, and he will let you revise them until you have an A. There is a group project towards the end of the course, that is the hardest part. He does not talk much in class. You will pretty much just sit and talk to the people around you. It is an easy A, but very boring.

Signed up for a different teacher for the semester, went to class the first day to find Mr.Ellis as my new teacher instead. I am so happy there was a mix-up! He is helpful, gives you all the information/criteria you need to complete the essays, and even returns your essays back to you to redo them for a higher grade. Loved him!

He is nice enough. I really did not learn English writing until I took him. He will let you redo your paper and correct all mistakes, and he will regrade it, which helps your grade a lot. He is pretty strict as far as grades, but you should pass if you redo your papers to get a better grade. No tests, which is awesome! I would take him again.

He assigned 5 papers that are all easy and he tells you what he wants in each paper in a handout before you write it.

Great guy and he was very clear with what he wanted and very gracious with early mistakes.

I had Marshall a few years ago. Great teacher, even better person. I was going through a rough patch and he helped me through it. Kind, wise, sympathetic and always there if you need him. Best teacher I ever had. If I could come back to TCC just to smoke cigs and chat with him everyday, I absolutely would.

I take this class online. grading was fair and give good feedback. also give you a second chance to correct your mistake and submit for a better grade.
