He's very passionate about teaching which makes the course quite fun and interesting considering all the work we had to do. Plus he has an adorable personality.

Marshall is the best English teacher I've ever had. He's very thorough and always willing to help, but he definitely makes you work for your grade.

I did not think that an English class can be fun, until I took Marshalls class. He is very approachable, funny and understanding. The class itself is pretty loosely oragnized, so it may deter all you perfectionists out there!

Marshall is cool and all, but he has his moments. His class is strictly structured and he basically teaches you what to write, not how to write. I personally don't like that, but the class is still cool nonetheless. Take him for a nice, cool teacher.

I thought this course was going to be hard, but it turned out to be very interesting and fun. I learned a lot about editing film and the similarity between making a film and writing an essay. This class is fun, but requires a lot of out of class time.

This teacher is the bomb. His teaching is based on films, nothing much about reading books. He gives you quiz, but doesnt affect your grade. Just need to pass half of it; guess what there's online quiz. If you know computers, take this class.

Other writing courses require 4 essays; this course requires 6 essays along with many pop-quizes and online discussions. It also contained very liberal subject matter that is thought provoking yet tended to be one-sided. Professor Hattori was entertaining

class is fun and entertaining, but a lot of work to do. lots of essays, lots of reading, lots of quizzes, and you got to do a documentary film for this class that will take up almost half of the quarter, but only worth 1/10 of your grade

Tough class because he required lots of work. However, his class is the only one language class that i really don't want to be absent, because he is so funny. Recommand

At first, I was annoyed at him. But later on, I realized he was a good teacher. Just don't miss any of the assignments.

He's not as easy as you think, you actually have a lot of work to make up for the lowered amount of essays that you do (i.e. a film) Former student = garenteed A. Partipate in class, that'd help your grade out a lot. And you wont learn much/anything.

Marshall is a great teacher. He's actually helps you a lot with your writing skills and is a fairly easy grader. He's pretty mean, but don't be scared, its just in his nature. take him its well worth it.

Marshall's class not only enhanced my interest in Literature and writing but it opened up a whole new world to me. The class delved into engaging political and social issues using Novels such as Ender's Game and The Mistress Of Spices.

Mr. Hattori is not only a funny and nice guy but he is a great teacher. He has taught me a lot about basketball and has helped me improve drastically. He takes the time to show you what you need to work on to help you be a better player. I HIGHLY recommend him!!

A smart and funny guy all the way around. His classes are very different from your typical English courses, and I guess that it's because of this that you become more interested in the work. I especially enjoyed working on the film project in 1A.

Hattori is the greatest teacher I've taken. We got to watch The Fight Club and Hedwig and the Angry Inch! Boxing and drag queens throughout the whole quarter--what more could you want? The most benefitial class to anyone.

Coolest teacher ever!!!! Explains everything, not to many papers to write, but if you are definately not the English class person this is the class for you.

He is pretty arrogant and thinks he is all knowing but if you can get past that he is pretty good. Lots of group work and discussions which help the class to be more active. Texts are interessting like Lost In Translation and Def Jam poetry. Also he isn't bad to look at either.

On the first day of class he sat in the back of the class and he looked just like a student. We didn't know he was the teacher until he introduced himself. His teaching style is unique, fun, and interesting.

He is the most inspiring teacher I have had my entire academic career. I was eager to do all the assignment he gave because of the meaning and importance he put behind everything. Great Prof, thought I was gonna be bored, he teaches critical thinking through pop culture which isinteresting. Read fair amount, got heavy at times, most of the reading is interesting anyway. You wont pass the class if you don't read or go to class, he makes sure he implements everything in the quizes and tests, PAY ATTENTION to what he says...

He sets guidlines very well, sets expectations for his students and helps them exceed them, he feeds his students, has an awesome frickin humor, and will change the way you think and grow as you progress further into adulthood. If you can't speed read roughly 20 readings while taking your final like me, read what's assigned

Okay, honestly, Hattori is one of the funniest teachers I've ever had. He's not afraid say totally outrageous things that other teachers are scared to get fired for. but he's technical...you need to work hard and study for everything he says if you want to pass. he's not so hard that you cant pass.but his class requires your serious commitment.

Mr. Hattori is one of the greatest teachers I've ever had. He's witty and humorous, he has a passion for teaching and he makes you want to learn. His class is not easy but if your willing to learn, you will pass. Make sure you read thoroughly, he tends to ask questions you might skip. His grading is tough but everyone should take his class.

No textbook required. He learns your name so don't get on his bad side. He gives you busy work such as copy pages out of a book (seriously), write randomly for 20 minutes, do discussion boards no one cares about, etc. His class isn't too difficult. This is is a semi hard A class.

Whether you like or hate this teacher, he is gonna help. He is a great person to know in general, and if you don't like him, then don't worry, because people like him are very hard to come across.

Best Professor I've had at Deanza by far. He cares about his students, and he does give a lot of work, but I actually want to do the work since he relates it to life today. I feel like I'm learning a lot more compared to other classes I've taken at DeAnza

Honestly, The BEST professor I have ever had at De Anza. He cares about you and your work. He will notice when your lacking, and call you out on it. No BS, he is very honest. I will definitely recommend taking him. He is very intelligent and knows what he is talking about. :) TAKE HIM!!!!!

GREAT TEACHER!! Highly recommend. Not boring and has very interesting lessons. Took the online class and he is very helpful. As long as you try hard, you should come out with a good grade!

Great instructor, I would highly recommend. He is very knowledgable about what he is teaching & his teaching style keeps the class engaged. He was very understanding & wanted every student to succeed. He will push you to dig deep to better yourself. 2 midterms, few quizes & papers, & 1 project. Reading & attendance is a must. A is doable.

If you want a teacher who's looking out for your well being, a friend, fun, and competent... well, lets just say "the whole package" when it comes to amazing teachers, look no further. Marshall will go out of his way for you. I've never once dreaded going to his class, it was always fun and you'll never fail to learn something significant.

The class required a lot of time and hard work, but you'll learn so much more about yourself and you'll also improve your writing skills. I would definitely recommend you take Marshall's course if you can. He truly cares about his students' well being and the essays he assigns aren't boring topics so that makes writing them less difficult.

Ton of work. All his other classes are easy, but this one was really different. A total of 3 short essays and 3 longer ones. You read three books and watch the corresponding movies. Overall - really hard class, but also still really interesting! Get ready to work your butt off.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! He is great,he is willing to help his students. He wants the student improve and definitely learn smth from the class. Learning materials is interesting and meaningful. It seems like lots of work but all of them are really easy as long as you put in effort.200 points for participation n super easy quizs for credit.

This class requires a lot of time because of the books you have to read and movies you have to watch. He says you cannot pass the class without reading the books. I got an A in the class by only reading a third of the first book. I don't recommend doing what I did but it goes to show that it is possible. Fun class though. Highly recommended.

I don't usually write comments but Marshall is really helpful. He is someone that will teach you about life and how to be successful. I took him for 211,1b, and currently taking him for 2. If you pay attention to his writing style and adopt it/incorporate it to your own essay, you will get an A for sure.
