Great teacher. Very real world. Knows everything about programming. I would take him for anything MIS. Overall he is excellent. Not too hard.
Great teacher, very enthused about teaching the course, I would definately take him for anything in MIS
The best professor I have had. I am actually glad to be in his class when he is teaching. He is very enthused about it and tries to make all the topics interesting. If you ever take 120 with him, you get to go on a field trip to a data center. And as for programming classes, he holds his lectures in labs which is very helpful and u learn more.
NOT THAT BAD, VERY FUNNY GUY
He is very nice, but if you are not already familiar with computer terminology the class will be difficult and require a lot of studying.
Good teacher who really knows his material. Test can be a bit difficult, but if you study they shouldn't be a problem. Really teaches just for the love of it. Good class and WE GOT POCKET PC's!!!
Mart is an awesome teacher, the lecture can boring but he really tries to make it as interesting as possible. Tests can be a little hard - just make sure you study the homework and you should be ok.
Awesome professor. Took an upper level course for my first year at school, and did pretty well. As long as you do and understand the homework, and review his PPT presentation, you'll be fine. Programming for the people who hate programming can be difficult though.
Mart is a nice guy that cares about the success of his students. However, he is very by the book and the material is not easy. Mart tries to make class interesting. The first 2 exams are knowing components and their functions and the last is writing programs in code, which is hard
I took MIS 2501 and 3596 with Mart. He has assignments due every week, sometimes multiple per week. Everything is easy and by the book, but he nitpicks every detail. You must give his answer to be right. However, go to his office often, he is extremely helpful and asking for his help will guarantee you an A.
ok guy just a lot of homework
very bad. not helpful. confusing. i wish i hadnt taken him. dont even bother doing a minor in MIS.
2501 was easy with him. but 3596 & DB..good luck. alot of homework. went thru topics very fast. wasn't clear on alot of points. no extra credit.
Professor Doyle is an excellent professor who is very enthusiastic about the covered material, making it easier for students to stay engaged and interested. Very talented in breaking things down making concepts easier to understand. Doyle is a true asset to Temple's MIS department and one of the greatest professors I've ever had.
He is one of the reasons I became a major along with many other kids. Hes an awesome teacher and really cares. Doyle is always willing to help those kids that ask for it and will do what it takes to make the subject (although very dry at times) more understandable and bearable.
He really knows the material that he teaches. Students need to attend class and read text book. Tests are 50-50 book and lectures. Will always give students any help that they want.
He is a really good professor and is very passionate about what he teaches. He classes haven gotten a bit easier after he added the extra credit which you have to really work for. 2501 was easy, but 3596 was hard. You have to devote long hours if you want a real high grade in 3596. You either get programming or u don't not. Not the Prof. Fault.
He's amusing, engaging, passionate and dedicated. Hardest working professor I've worked with to date. A real pleasure!
He's a good teacher. I had no interest in this class at all, making it a little boring for me. It is very important to study from the textbook so read the chapters and you will be fine (or you can just pay attention in class instead, something that I didn't do). I would recommend him.
He randomly calls on people but only half the students showed up for class so he didn't bother marking you if you were not there. All exam questions are from the blogs posted by kids in the honor classes so you know what to study. Only downside is working with groups on two assignments.
I've had Mart for at least 4 courses in the MIS dept. He's by far my favorite teacher at Temple. He is extremely enthusiastic, and has great experience from industry that he shares with the class to help us better understand the material. The tests can be a good challenge but I've learned so much.
Wow, I dont know how I got an A in this class. I didnt read the text, and went to class maybe 3 times to hand in projects. Oh i know why, maybe its because the exams are made up from question banks he provides you with? Take him if you can. Buying the "required" text was a waste of money.
Mart is the man with the master plan. L-e-g-i-t-i-m-a-t-e!
Mart is a really nice man, but the class is borrrinng! I went sleep a couple of times, wasn't worth going. All you need to do is read the text books, but most things on the tests are what he talks about in class. All of the projects are easy As, but the tests are impossible, no1 in my class got an A on an exam. I lucked out with an A-
Content free class. Do not cover anything besides one page "flash papers." He is a nice guy but delivers nothing of value.
Doyle is super nice but his class is boring. Assignments are ridiculously easy but his exams are impossible regardless of how much you study. The assignments and exams seem to level out the grades though.
I really liked Mart. Lectures are a bit dry but MIS is a dry subject overall. Exams take extra studying but they're not impossible. If you don't read the texts you'll fail the exams. Projects are a piece of cake. Overall, I'd take him again.
While 2101 is an overall bland class, Mart makes the effort to at least engage the class (though it doesn't work most of the time). Projects are an easy A if you do them properly. If you aren't an MIS major, be ready to constantly hear why your major is terrible compared to MIS.
I dropped the class because the class is geared towards MIS majors and I'm a entrepreneurship minor, and is extremely challenging. He is a great professor, nice, funny, and engaging. I actually wish I didn't drop the course. The challenge comes with writing the flash research papers. They require a lot of effort and revising to get a decent grade.
Save yourself a headache and take O'Donnell. I took Doyle and my friend had O'Donnell I did way more work than she did and she got and A and I got a C+. Doyle's exams are hard for no reason and whatever he says in lecture does not apply to the exams. He spends 20 minutes a class talking about his daughter and her soccer games. Dude is weird.
Don't take this class. No review sheet for midterm and final. As he said in the class, it's hard to get A or B for this class. Lecture doesnt relate to exam.
He curves his midterm and final exams and gives easy projects to help increase your grade. Has a great understanding of real-world content and purposely makes the intro course difficult to scare off the lazy students (which I'm sure he does). His class is not easy but he is hilarious to listen to. Take him if you're an MIS major or minor.
Mr. Doyle rocks. He really appreciates students that put in the effort to do well in his class, not to mention, he's hilarious. Attendance was not absolutely mandatory but I was there every single day with few exceptions simply because I found the class and Mr. Doyle's wisecracks so entertaining. Read the textbook for tests. Mr. Doyle, you rock!
Have fun if you take this class! His lectures have nothing to do with the exam. I got an A on all of the projects, but failed both exams. They are incomprehensible and unnecessarily difficult. I would stay away unless you want a C.
2501 is a writing class. Learn how to research a specific type of technology and write three paragraphs that include a hook, tech summary, and business case. Scoring separates each paragraph into a rubric with an additional overall writing score. If you want an A, do all the extra credit assignments and research and the tests won't be stressful.
He makes this course unnecessarily difficult. MIS 2501 is a writing class and he doesn't provide any helpful guides or help to pass the class. He rather discourages students and I believe a professors role should be to encourage and motivate his/her students.
Class is hard defnitly do all the extra credits its worth it and pays off. I failed the first exam and didnt get the participation points still ended up with a B in the class. Google search the exam topics while taking the exam so u can get ideas from previous exams
He is the worst professor you can take in the MIS department. Do yourself a favor and take another professor during the Summer semester. His grading is completely unfair and if you go to him to ask him about grading, he will justify himself and state that he is correct.
Easy class! Do ALL of the extra credit he offers, online book and quizzes, and make sure to do well on the 3 individual assignments he gives because they tend to raise your grade while his exams lower them. Great guy.
Horrible
very bad. not helpful. confusing. i wish i hadn't taken him.
DO THE EXTRA CREDIT! 9 whole points of extra credit. So easy to do. Learn a very embellished writing style for these flash papers. Do not be intimidated by these. You don't have to know what you are talking about. Just know how to write concisely and attractively as if you are selling something to someone. Do not need to be honest. Easy A.
He is different... He is a great professor but very hard to read. It is difficult to know what he is looking for on the papers you right at first but it gets easier as it goes. Learned a great deal from him, he has great experience in the field.
Doyle is nuts! He acts like a kid on a sugar high NONSTOP. Even so, he's funny, he loves participation, he offers LOTS of extra credit. Tests are entirely essay. Follow the structure he teaches and you can handle them. Add that with the extra credit, and you can ace it!
Grades very hard on exams so you must use the writing center like he suggests. Also doesn't just toss 100's around in participation. Sticks to his word that you must contribute in class. Be prepared for this course.
Project Management is a complete joke. Everyone is destroyed by Business Analysis, but seriously, 3535 is a joke. The tests are embarrassingly easy. People don't attend because of how pointless the class is but be warned, he is very, very legit with participation grading. That being said, chime in a few times, then just do other work during class.
Doyle is an amazing professor and really cares for his students. The class in general is tough (intensive writing) but if you work with Doyle, you will be fine. Go to class and participate! it helps a lot but attendance is not necessary. There is also no book, just have to use the web.
He is not a friendly professor at all and I did not feel like he cared about the grades of the class. He was there just to say what he had to teach and nothing more. Not very approachable at all. Gives NO extra credit and does not care if he fails you. DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER
If you put in the effort, Doyle has your back! However, don't expect any curving or extra credit. The class is very straight-forward and he is clear-cut with the grades. However, you have a ton of students who don't come to class and complain that things are too hard. Read the book, come to class, and turn in assignments! He is hilarious too!
Doyle is the man! Should be easy A if you actually come to class, practice the flash research papers, and work through the tech challenges enough to get them. I really enjoyed the lecture-free style of this class. However, I know it wasn't for everyone. There's really no sympathy from Doyle though. Don't expect him to help you out with tech stuff.
The class is extremely easy, as long as you follow a simple writing format (which he gives you) you don't have anything to worry about and will get an A or B. You don't need to show up to class, ever. Only on test days.
Failed his class the first time (my own fault) and passed the second time. Great at keeping entertained during boring lectures but if you don't put in the work outside class, you won't pass. Tech challenges are easy IF YOU PRACTICE THEM OVER AND OVRE AGAIN. Use the TA as often as you can and when he offers advice, listen. One of the best at TU!
Professor Doyle is not doing a good job on teaching his students. The material is very poorly explained, he does not like to answer students' question and instead he asked you to google it. He is also not very helpful when it comes to grade and he is a very hard grader.
Doyle worked for years in the industry so he has relevant stories that help you learn. Follow exactly what he tells you about the Tech Challenges (know the why of each step) and Flash Research Papers (follow the format). Many people don't pay attention in class, don't practice, therefore do terribly and then blame Doyle, which is unfair to him.
Mart Doyle is a cool guy. His lectures are relaxed as he entertains the class with his personal stories too. There are pop-up in class activities, so attendance is important. The exams are not difficult if you study the Powerpoint slides well, work through practice problems and DO THE READINGS even though he doesn't discuss them in lectures
He is one of the worst professors in the MIS department. Wonder why he is still teaching at Temple University. A professor's role is to treat every student equally and motivate/encourage them to learn and pass the class with decent grades. Wonder why he took up teaching as a profession when you do not want to teach and do not care.
Would not take him. He is very rude and isn't the most friendly guy. Plenty of better professors for MIS.
Professor Doyle is a great guy who's super funny and makes class fun. MIS 2901 isn't necessarily difficult, especially with Doyle. I've put the most ridiculous answers on class activities and received 100%s. That said, that makes exams all the more brutal because I feel like I haven't learned much of anything. Assignments are easy, exams are ROUGH.
He's hilarious. I do NOT RECOMMEND him for any MIS class because he doesn't know how to code. All he does is gives you questions and make you do all the work while he just walks around the class and time passes. When you ask questions about the code he just says I don't know and TRY again. If you are really new to code, do not take him.
He is the WORSE professor I have ever taken in MIS. He doesn't know how to teach a techinical course like MIS3406. 4 exams each 25%. which also makes course hard itself. Doyle is tough grader.
MIS3406 changed (Fall 2019). No more 4 exams or writing assignments. There are 2 exams instead. Attendance is now OPTIONAL. He doesn't teach the course well. You can just follow the ica's and youll be fine on the projects. No use of coming to class. He seems nice in class. But if you get on his wrong side, he will become very mean and youll regret!
First half of the semester was easy and taught well. After the basics we go into programming. After a 5 minute lecture we're supposed to know how to program. Doesn't teach, just lectures and assigns tons of homework and ICAs. If you don't get how to program you'll never learn in this class. Doesn't teach, just grades.
Beware! He does not give partial credit on any assignment even if you did a good job on most of the assignment. I went to office hours to talk about an assignment where he gave me a 0 on. He just shuts you down and says that he is correct! I don't recommend him!
He is the best. His lectures are fast-paced with assignments to test your knowledge. He is usually in his office and always helps students if they have any issues. The coding part is tough, but if you go to his office before the due date, he will explain it to you. In the end, he rounded the grades to be fair. The first two exams are hard.
Great communicator, attempts to instill the information in your mind but lacked interpersonal connection. We did the MaxLAB assignments and they were tedious and pointless (to my point of view), very time consuming to get done, and I felt like I didn't learn anything afterward. Exams were hard. Don't forget to show up to class for ICA's!
Hes a funny guy and he loves MIS. Exams are tough but he curves generously. Buy the coding book and read it, the coding portion is structured around that alone. its only the first couple chapters. Im pretty bad with tech and this class was fine. I didnt always go to class. If you want better than a B, put in the work.
He does not help his students. Do not take him.
don't take him!
Doyle sucks like no other professor has sucked before. His class structure is based upon very few assignments and exams that contribute significantly to your grade. The Max Labs section of the nurse was monotonous, students will learn nothing. On top of this his exams are incredibly difficult even with using the useless study guides.
Honest review here from a basic B student. Prof Doyle is pretty funny and really gets student to understand the importance of information systems. The assignments are easy 100%s I'm not even sure how you could fail them. The class is a 40/60 scale 40% on easy assignments and 60% tests which are easy 25 mult choice ques! Just take his class.
His teaching model is as follows: Give students a word document of directions to learn his material between classes on their own, and go over an unrelated powerpoint during class hours. Please do not take him he is absolutely the worst professor in this department. Don't listen to the positive reviews on here, they're so wrong and not even close.
Every bad rating is by somebody who didnt show up to class. Doyle was awesome, super funny and his lectures were entertaining. Definitely couldve taught the coding unit better, but thats something you have study yourself to really know. Overall great experience with him, highly recommend for any MIS class.
Overall a great professor. He was very helpful during class and office hours and will take the time to make sure you really understand the material. However, he will lecture for about 10 minutes and then expect you to understand the material well enough to do assignments independently. My advice is to utilize diamond peers and the fox video vault.
Doyle has a terrible teaching style and expects students to understand everything after one lecture.
The first 2 tests are a little tough but you can use common sense to do fine on them. The homeworks are all really easy and pointless. The programming section was more interesting and the final exam was really easy if you have prior programming experience. Doyle is super energetic and tries to keep the dry content engaging.
Professor Doyle was one of my favorites this part semester. Try to go to each class and you will breeze by for the whole semester. The last couple of weeks may seem a little difficult in the beginning, but it gets easier. Doyle is very accessible outside of class so it makes asking questions about topics very easy.
My favorite professor ever. He understands the students and wants them to succeed SO bad. Wonderful man that would happily help you boost your professional career.
Wonderful professor that doesn't bog you down with useless readings. Every test and activity is based around the in class activities, so if you're an active member of the class you will do just fine.
This was a special topics python course but I'm glad I took it as it looks great on resumes. If Doyle teaches it again definitely enroll it was really easy and I feel like I learned a lot. It starts off with fundamentals of python before going into data analytics. Beware though, no homework so your only grades are the 3 tests and weekly quizzes.
Doyle is amazing, he's so funny. He makes me want to come to class. I don't have any interest in MIS, but he helped me become more tolerant of it. The class is still hard though, but not because of the professor. Some of the assignments are tedious, but you have to deal with that in every MIS class regardless of who your professor is.
He's a really funny person and always starts his class with fun stories. Lectures can be a bit fast, but easy to learn if you review the slides and the in class activities. Practice and you should be fine.
Doyle is a good professor who is very energetic and very knowledgeable about the tech field. His hands-on lectures are very helpful. However, he almost never gives partial credit and will not budge if you try to ask for grade changes. He also moves through material very fast and isn't very helpful in office hours. Take his class at your own risk.
Professor Doyle is such a character. He is very funny and tries to make his lectures engaging. This class is an elective and he really treats it as such. I had no experience with python before this class and now I feel really comfortable with this coding language. I would 100% recommend any major to take this elective.
One of the best professors I have ever had the pleasure of learning from. He is witty and funny, and he truly cares about his students and wants their time at college to be beneficial in preparing them for the workforce but also an enjoyable time for them. Lectures are engaging and interactive. Make sure to actually read the assigned readings!
Professor Doyle was very nice and funny but the exams were tricky at times. There were tons of articles that were supposed to be read for the first two exams and 5 questions were from them so it was hard to know all of the material in the articles. The HW was easy but the exams made up most of the grades.
Hilarious, expect to hear a ridiculous story for the first five minutes of class. Lots of tech experience too. The content can be challenging, but if you do all (all) of the readings you'll be well-prepared for the first two exams. The last third of the course is a basic intro to Javascript/HTML which isn't too bad if you just practice and study.
Study weekly questions (DiamondPeerCorner) to pass exams. 1-2 tedious HW's per week. Attendance mandatory. Funny nice guy, little less than moderate difficulty of a course.
He will make you whole. Just show up ready to learn and you will have fun and get the grade you deserve.
Doyle is an engaging professor, but I feel like he's not meant to teach a large class. PReparing for the first exam was really difficult, but other than that, the assignments are not bad and he tries to make class interesting. He does call on people randomly so be prepared if you want credit.
He's an awesome guy, the first exam was hard to prepare for, but everything else was pretty straight forward, I'd recommend him
This class is awful! I unfortunately had to take it my last semester since I changed majors during the new curriculum. However, Doyle is a great guy and makes coming to class fun. The exams are not super easy to prepare for and make up the majority of your grade.
I don't like professors who BS to connect with students. Tell me what to study, and don't make it more difficult than it has to be. Enthusiasm won't make me like your class, good teaching will.
the professor himself is not the best. hes slightly odd and just like not the vibe. but homework is actually not that bad at all relatively easy as long as you attend class. Exams are kind of hard but like not the worst. first exam is very hard lowkey but like you can still work it through. jus turn up to class and do the ICA and you'll be fine
Easy professor, simple and quick work, only downside is scantron exams, but they're easy as well.
He's a great person, but he's not the best professor. Make sure to study for the first exam using Tableau BootCamp AND the textbook. The first exam will be the hardest because you don't know what to expect. There are many other unnecessary assignments, but simply getting them done is enough. It's not a difficult class if you understand the basics.
The professor tries to be funny and very talkative but it often doesn't really resonate with ppl. He randomly calls on people during class, and attendance is required and is 10% of grade. He's not the best at teaching either and kind of just rants.
This dude just excused Monday absence, scheduled Wednesday class for zoom, cancelled Friday class for the super bowl parade, and moved our test from Wednesday to next Monday because of the birds super bowl win. Absolute legend 🦅🦅🦅
Doyle's classes are engaging, though the content can be challenging. Attend lectures, use Unstuck AI and the free textbook to prepare, and you'll do well. The exams test your understanding, but the homework is straightforward. Overall, a worthwhile class with an enthusiastic professor.
Some of these reviews are baffling, did we have the same professor? Dolye has been nothing but caring and accommodating towards me, especially as someone registered with DRS. The class is difficult and challenges you to put in work to understand the material, but he is more than willing to sit with you and help you understand what you're unsure of.
chill guy but the class is test heavy is if u dont do well on that .. its very hard to have a good grade (lowkey my fault but IM TELLING U GUYS NOW.. so put in the work!) theres barely any hw. just a few assignments which take 1-1.5hr AT MOST and there are only 7 for the whole sem. Take him but just put in the work when it comes to the exams.
Coolest and easiest professor! His class is not hard at all. He is helpful and his assignments are easy. His tests aren't hard either, unless you don't study enough you'll hurt your grade. I would take him again if I could. Idk why the ratings aren't high.
Doyle is very very knowledgeable at what he's talking about and he's very passionate, but he's just not the best teacher until it comes time to review and he answers questions directly. He's incredibly helpful inside and outside of class, but his TA that he always has is unapproachable and strange unless you're friends with him.
This course is meaningless—outdated content, dull lectures, no real-world value. Students waste time and money listening to old slides instead of learning skills that matter. Education should inspire growth, not feel like throwing tuition down the drain. A true course sparks thought, not boredom.
