Really nice teacher
Pretty easy, the practice exams are just like the real exams. I highly recommend her.
Flothmann is the best math teacher the department has.Very clear and to the point. Writes notes on the board very clearly, tests are identical to practice tests. She wants you to do well! I tried 3 different Calc I teachers(Goodman-horrible, Osfora-okay, and Dong-good). waiting for her to teach it
VERY nice and helpful teacher. Best math teacher at UM. I felt like I didn't have to struggle to learn the material, was able to do well and still walked away with a strong knowledge of the subject. I definately recommend Flothman!
You are one long runon sentence
great teacher.. if she sees you trying she will help you. go to her for help if struggling and you will do well. test are straightforward. if she gives u practice tests DO THEM, KNOW THEM. Great teacher.
i absolutely loved her. i thought she was a great teacher who cares about her students and whether or not they learn. her exams aren't hard- just do the practice tests and you'll be fine. when i found out i had her again for MTH112 i literally threw a party! she's a really awesome teacher. =o)
She is incredible!!! I seriously love her. She is so fair and truly cares how you do as a student. Honestly, you couldn't ask for more in a teacher.
I love Professor Flothman! She is the best math teacher I have had at UM so far. She is kind, fair, and very understanding. She really wants her students to do well, and if you take her class, you will do well! I hadn't gotten an A in math since 7th grade until I took her class!!!
No required homework, but suggested you do it. Great teacher who loves her students, gives occasional extra credit, and tests are always well prepared and practice tests are given. Best math teacher i've had here
She moves fast but is more than willing to help you. On tests she looks for the right process more than the right answer, so you can get wrong answers AND an A. Very nice overall, offers extra credit when it's needed.
She helps you out incredibly. I was doing pretty well at the beginning but then began to slack. Don't stop working. The practice exams help and you can always ask her for help.
Thick accent, very quick paced. Seems as the class is difficult in the beginning because of the speed, but she is VERY helpful. You can see her anytime and she explains everything. Be sure to do all the homework and practice exams, and she gives ALOT of extra credit at the end
Very good teacher, and easy grader. If you pay attention during class and do the homework (which is not required btw) it is easy to do well.
Ah yes, Flothman rocks. The exams and quizzes/tests are somewhat difficult, but she is a very easy grader. She explains things well and is also kind of funny... Had her for calc 2
Great teacher, very clear explanations. Very helpful, you can e-mail her with any questions. Not enough review before the final. She gives alot of extra credit so make sure you do the problems. She gives alot of points during the test for how you work out the problems so they are not that hard as long as you understand the processes.
She is the best math teacher ive had in years, Great explaining all the concepts and the problems you have problems on.She is super strict on the calculator usage, and on how you show your work. Her tests are not hard if you study the material but they are semi-long and require critical thinking. If you have a choice on taking her i say DO IT
She is very caring and overall entertaining. Often got side tracked by trivial questions and therefore sacrificed time for review. Not enough review for tests and tests were very difficult.
I had professor Flothmann for MTH 110 and MTH 112. She was an awesome teacher!!!!! All you need to do is go over the in-class examples and know how to do the homework and you can get an A. She gives lots of partial credit and thoroughly explains the material. I got an A- in both classes. She drops a lot of grades and gives tons of extra credit!!!
I loved her and I hate math, that should say it all
awesome teacher, gives partial credit and extra credit, drops lowest quiz and midterm grades. SUPER HELPFUL... email or go to her office anytime and shell help... not super easy, but an A is definitely possible and you'll learn a lot... she's a great professor
THE BEST MATH TEACHER I HAVE HAD IN A LONG TIME!!! HIGHLY SUGGEST HER!
Prof. Flothmann is an EXCELLENT math teacher, one of the best I've had. She clearly has a good understanding of the subject and is very helpful and friendly. I would definitely recommend taking any math class with Prof. Flothmann.
Professor Flothman was a great teacher! She was so nice and always willing to explain if we were confused - which wasn't often because she does a very good job communicating the material. Sadly she had to leave halfway through the semester. Professor, if you read this: we all miss you very much and hope/pray you are doing alright!
Really awesome teacher, pretty easy to get an A.
She is so helpful and wants everyone to get an A. If you attend class and show some interest she will help you get an A through extra credit or something else. Unfortunately they put her at 8am often, but it is so worth taking her. She goes through concepts slowly and makes sure everyone understands them.
She's very helpful and she makes sure that you understand the material. She made everything easy and she is always willing to stay behind and help you with questions.
She is a great teacher for a hard subject. Professor Flothman is extremely helpful when it comes to going over homework problems you don't get or test questions. Take advantage of her office hours. Her test are a lot like the review but sometimes she throws in a couple of curve balls. Webassign sucks but ask for help is you need it.
She is one of the best math teachers I have ever had. Even though attendance is necessary, it was worth taking the 8 AM. She is always willing to help you if you have trouble, and homework is an easy A (even though WebAssign is a pain) since she is willing to answer questions in class. If you do the work, the tests are as easy as the homework.
I had her for Calc 1 and decided to take her 8 AM class this semester for Calc 2...and I hate waking up early. That's saying something. She's always willing to help and will answer any questions you may have. I recommend her for Calc 1 & 2
Great teacher. Class is hard but if you pay attention you will get by. Doing homework is optional but encouraged.
i love martha so much. she is the best math teacher i have ever had and she rocks miami green everyday.
BEST CALCULUS TEACHER!!!!! Pay attention in class, do your homework and you will do very well!
She goes too fast but knows everything!
Flothman is an amazing professor. She balances teaching the material with fun / games and letting you out early on Fridays. Quizzes and tests alternate every week; the lowest one of each is dropped. She moves quickly, but is extremely willing to stay after to explain something differently or just to talk.
Professor Flothmann is the most amazing teacher I have ever had!!, she makes everything crystal clear, and she is very helpful. Not only does she know the Math, but she knows how to make learning insane amounts of math,in a very short time, quite fun.
Excellent professor, knows exactly what she is talking about and is great at explaining everything. Only problem is she goes very fast during class, so keep up. Do the homework, ask questions, and if necessary, go to office hours and you'll be fine.
Excellent Excellent Excellent. Extremely reasonable, always flexible to move tests as long as you provide a good argument. Wants you to understand and get a good grade.
Run away! She goes too fast! Nice lady though.
Best math teacher at UM! She always asks if you need help and she explains things in detail so you really understand them. You do have to pay attention in class though. It's calculus. If you're not good at math then it won't just be easy.
Very nice professor. Calculus 2 isn't a very easy course and if you want to learn and have to take upper level math courses definitely take her. No curve but every math class i know has no curve. Her office hours turn into lecture. VERY HELPFUL! Put in the effort it will pay off
Best math professor at UM, hands down. She is so helpful and crystal clear in her presentation of the material. Whatever you review in class is what will be on the quiz/exam. She never places any trick questions or questions you haven't gone ever and homework isn't mandatory. So amazing she's worth waking up at 8 AM for.
Very helpful if you need help or have questions. Friendly and understanding. Not the easiest, but if you put some effort to learn you'll do fine
I had to put A LOT of time into this class to get an A. It's definitely do able I would say I just wasted way too much time on it. Go to office hours before the tests and she is very helpful
Dr. Flothmann is not only CRYSTAL clear about everything you need to know for the exams, but she helps you SOOOO MUCH. She takes every little step very slowly. If you do your hw and approach her about any issues, she will help you. She basically retaught me algebra and trig during her office hours. She wants everyone to do well.
Nice lady, but didn't exactly love her as a teacher. Pretty hard, but if you put the work in you can succeed. Drops one test and quiz also.
AMAZING teacher. She is so clear and everything makes sense during lecture. Homework wasn't graded, but it was necessary to do it to do well. 5 quizzes and 5 tests, all very fair and consistent with the homework and material taught in class. There is no one I know that didn't like her as a teacher, even though the class wasn't the easiest.
Worst professor!! beware
One of the best math teachers I've ever had. Homework is not mandatory, but many questions on her exams are similar to those problems. She's very kind and extremely approachable. If you're having difficulty with anything at all, go to her office hours because she's always more than willing to help. Highly recommend taking her.
Super helpful in office hours. I have no idea how she juggles all of her classes she teaches, she is amazing and brilliant! HW is worth half of the points, and exams the other half, which is a nice buffer. Unfortunately, the exams are nearly impossible and far too long. She gives extra credit though, which is nice!
The class itself is tough, but the professor is incredibly sweet and truly cares for the students. She moves quickly but is there if you have any questions along the way. Would definitely take her again.
AMAZING PROFESSOR! She has a way of making calculus seem beautiful and elegant. She is also incredibly sweet and extremely helpful. The class itself might seem difficult but i think if you put in the effort, you will truly understand what you are doing and actually enjoy it.
Her classes are easy. Very thorough in explanation, and is there for you if you need more clarification. Show up to class and do the review problems and you can ace every test and quiz. No homework is assigned, so its up to you to practice as you will.
Great teacher, will make you work for a grade. Also very harsh when grading, will rip your paper to shreds if you didn't pay attention. Otherwise wonderful and approachable professor.
A true instructor- truly understands the math and actually able to help her students understand. Though the pace might be a little quick, if you're fearless and ask the questions you need answered or go to her office hours this class should be fine. Don't speak-up and you'll quickly fall behind. Helpful handouts and plenty of examples in class.
Fantastic teacher. Working to get her for MTH161.
Marta Flothmann was a fantastic teacher of Calc 2. While it's not the easiest class out there, she does an excellent job teaching, and is always available during office hours to explain concepts. Wouldn't call it an easy A, but definitely possible to get an A as long as you put in some effort. Also, she doesn't assign hw, and drops lowest quiz+test
Dr. Flothmann is one of the best teachers Ive had. Her lecturing is interesting and engaging, her grading fair and consistent. Attendance wasnt mandatory, but every minute was well worth it. If you have any hesitations, let them go and enroll in her class. You wont be disappointed.
She's an amazing teacher and really helpful. I'd say one of the best in the University. Her office hours are really useful especially to know what to study for tests. She grades really hard and never curves. Study hard and see her in her office and you'll get a good grade.
Incredible teacher, she's the best, took her for cal 1 and 2. Problems solved in class are exactly the same in the exams. She explains everything very clear and goes step by step in every problem. Homework not mandatory, just study the problems done in class for the exams and you'll get a 90.
Goes through material very quickly and doesn't explain things well. She assumes much more than you do. Tells you which chapters are on the tests but once you open the textbook you see concepts that were never covered or even mentioned in class. My friend had a different professor for the same class and learned different and easier topics.
Really hard tests and exams
One of the best teachers i have ever had. Really helpful and there for you. Her tests are just really really hard, but she's great.
I really enjoyed this class. She was always willing to help explain concepts and even helped on a few take home tests. Great personality and truly knew her subject. She is more old school and you don't need a calculator for the most part. Paper, pencil, and worksheets were all you needed to learn Calc 2
Her exams are extremely difficult and in depth. HW is not graded, and your grade is mostly just tests and quizzes. The quizzes are usually less than 5 questions so if you get one wrong, you get a low grade. You'll come out knowing a lot of calculus, but be prepared to work hard.
She's heartless. Terrible class, extremely hard exams. Not even worth your time or effort taking this class with this terrible math professor. If I could give her a rating of 0, I would but I simply can't on this website.
There is no homework, which is good and bad. I found myself out of practice and doing poorly on problems that were easy to me back in high school calculus. If you can pass out of this class with AP credit, I would recommend it.
She is an ok teacher. Took AP in high school so the class was relatively easy. But if it's your first time taking calc she might not be the best teacher. Exams and Quizzes are mostly fair. Not the best explainer and sometimes can skip over things.
Flothmann is easily one of the best math professors I've ever had. For each class she has a lecture outline that she fills in with us in class. She then posts the completed outlines online. The class is by no means easy (because calculus is super hard), but she gives you the tools to succeed.
Extremely hard tests and exams! Horrible at explaining, skips through things very quickly. No sympathy for students. Everything is trigonometry. Does not curve.
DONT TAKE HER!!! She goes way to fast and does not explain anything really well and then her tests are the hardest thing ever, she throws random questions you have never seen before and expects you to know them.
Great professor. Homework is optional and really just practice problems for tests/quizzes. You will know exactly what will be on each test or quiz. She is readily available outside the classroom. She wants you to succeed.
Homeworks are optional so if you won't do them like me just attend class and make sure you know how to do the classwork. Tests are easy ONLY IF YOU STUDY. She explains everything really well and she's very helpful outside of class.
Most people are failing the class, cannot teach a class of such a large size. Over half the class dropped the class. Test questions are much harder than the ones she assigns.
Are you taking MTH161? Yes? The read on. Dr. Flothmann is the toughest MTH161 professor there is. If you have taken calculus before and are naturally a mathematician, then why are you even here? BUT if you did OK in high school calc, then you'll get a B or a C in this class. Guaranteed. Tests are hard hard. TOUGH grader!! (she is nice tho)
There's terrible teachers, and then below them is Flothmann. I have put so much time and effort into studying for this class, but no matter what I still cannot get good grades on the tests. And it's not just me... everyone I talk to is failing or barely passing. She has no sympathy for students, the tests are overcomplicated, and she goes too fast
Here is the thing, I LOVE math but somehow she managed to make me dread it. Attending class became a task and I had to teach myself most of the content as she is too quiet to be understood. Though she does give out worksheets she basically does them for you allowing no room to learn. Her webassign homework does not provide any help for the tests.
Marta is a real gem! All you have to do is go to every class, pay attention in class, complete all her webassigns, go over the worksheets she does every class and you're guaranteed to pass. I got an A+ in this class, but i had to work hard. She gives extra credit for going to class and discussion and for our final she gave us all 18 extra points.
Ms. Flothmann's lectures were great with a lot of nice graphs projected on the screen to explain concepts. The tests were not easy but ok if one understands the material.
Ms. Flothmann has a wonderful way of teaching. Her antiderivatives were on poiont, and her mic never worked. Shoutout to integral of x (cosx)^2 dx
If you understand the concepts of calc before-hand, then you likely won't fail but you will still need to study. She tells you exactly what types of problems will be on the test but then gives difficult numbers. She is incredibly caring and understanding of her students; If you are having a problem, communicate with her. Be prepared to work hard.
It's honestly not an easy class. The webassigns take forever and sometimes she rushes. But she is very helpful in class and outside if you have any questions and is overall a good teacher. This class is not an easy A though so if you want to do well you have to go to class, do the webassigns, and try to understand every concept she goes over.
Though grader and tough tests. But gives decent lectures.
Dr. Flothmann was overall a good professor. If you have any questions, she will explain the concept again. I found her explanations very clear and helpful. I did not have to study much because I already had covered this material in high school, but I recommend getting help immediately if you are struggling because there is no curve. Overall, solid.
Dr. Flothmann is so accessible out of the classroom. She has office hours almost every day of the week, and even when she didn't, she would make herself available. Very difficult material and the lectures can be hard to understand but she clears everything up during office hours. Just a really amazing, respectable professor.
This class was not an easy A, but the class was so worth it. Her teaching is crystal clear. Flothmann has office hours everyday except on Friday. She doesnt mind, she actually even loves it when you show up to Office Hours. There really are no surprises on exams. Primarily study what she goes over in class, but of course go over other things.
Flothmann has infinite office hours AFAIK, but I've never been. The lectures are useless but mandatory. Do the WebAssign and worksheets and you'll ace the tests. If you're looking for challenging tests, this isn't for you. Remember H for I'Hospital or points off. I was dismayed to learn that she was from Hungary bc I thought she was Iranian.
She's great! She cares about her students and wants everyone to pass- but you have to put the work in! Use her office hours! Exam can be hard, definitely do all the practice work she assigns as you never know exactly which questions she's going to use on the exam.
She really means well, but has a very heavy accent. I rarely went to this class, learned mainly from the homework checks and helps, and luckily had a background in high school AP calculus. She is nice with extra credit and answering questions though. Definitely requires some teaching yourself, but wasn't horrible.
It can be difficult to pay attention in the Whitten lecture halls, but Professor Flothmann posts all her slides and usually provides a practice test that resembles the actual test. If you go to her office hours, she will show you how to do the problems. Very helpful but won't hand you an A.
If you pay attention, you will get an A
She is a really nice person. However, if you are not familiar with calculus or havent taken pre calc. Avoid her at all cost, there are other professors available. Def not a first option. Lectures where made in a class for 80 people. Thick accent and HARD EXAMS
super easy-- practically no homework!!! she's so good about explaining things and taking questions!
Marta Flothmann does an excellent job teaching Calc 2. While the subject can be difficult she really makes it very clear during lecture, doing out examples write before you. Its important to pay attention to these examples because they teach you everything you need to know for the tests. She is also extremely helpful during office hours.
Marta seems like such a sweetheart and if you actually come to class and participate you'll do well... unlike me. she's a total hardo when it comes to grading or if you go to her about your grade. This class is great if you're a really hard worker and like going to class
Dr. Flothmann was truly a gem to have as a teacher. She's very sweet and truly cares about her students doing well. Labs tended to be on the difficult side, but her tests/quizzes were average/easy in difficulty as long as you pay attention in class and prepare with some practice Q's. Most questions resemble questions done in class/from other tests.
Dr. Flothmann is by far the best teacher I have ever had in the subject of math. Her unique approach to teaching calculus relies heavily on her illustrations allowing for clarity when introducing different concepts on the infinite scale. If you actually want to LEARN math, take her. If you want to just easily pass, don't waste yours or her time.
Tests are solely based on notes taken in class, so if you have poor attendance do not take Flothmann. She is a smart and nice lady if you ask for help or go to office hours. Overall a good teacher, but she will make you work for a good grade.
Prof Flothmann provided helpful handouts which went along with the concepts she taught in-class. Overall, she described things clearly and as long as you pay attention in class and do the homework you can do well
She was alright. I had a very difficult pre-calculus teacher in high-school so most of what we did in class I already knew how to do. She teaches quickly so I suggest really practicing with the homework. If you are not good at math, don't take her because you will struggle because she doesn't really explain very well. She isn't a bad person though.
Do Not take this class she is a very inconsiderate person. She's very unclear at times with her instructions and expects you to know everything she's doing. Does not give any homework on the bright side.
She really wants you to understand the material. She gives considerable help outside of class, and will walk you through problems in office hours. She is a tough grader and will take off points on test and assignments for small errors so make sure to double check your work
Worst professor ever, she got angry in her lectures and she was impossible to work with during office hours. Her tests were so much harder than what we practiced. DO NOT TAKE HER.
If you get her as your teacher do whatever you can to get out. Very inconsiderate when it comes to grading, will fail you on little things such as submitting an assignment slightly incorrect. Do whatever you can to avoid her!
I absolutely loved Professor Flothman. She goes through all the steps really well, making it clear what she is doing, but doesn't waste time doing all the stupid steps and wasting time. I really hope I can take another class with her again!
I LITERALLY HAVE NEVER DONE A RATE MY PROFESSOR BEFORE BUT PLEASE don't take her I have never gotten below a B in any class in my entire life including high school and I just took the final and if I end with a C- i will be SURPRISED. Please don't take her. I literally taught myself but then the test has nothing to do with the homework/notes. DONT
I loved having professor flothman. she really cares, and is always available to discuss math things, no matter the topic, after class. when the semester ended, she got in touch with me and encouraged keep on going, and was thoughtful enough to send me an email with my final exam grade the day she graded it. I really hope i get to have her again.
Do NOT take Dr. Flothmann's class. Not only did I have a difficult time understanding her teaching, but I have never dealt with a teacher or professor who was so inconsiderate and cared so little for her students. Moreover, she was so hard to get in touch with the entire semester. The struggles I had because of her were unbelievable.
I am usually very considerate when it comes to rating teachers but not now. She is probably the worst professor at the University of Miami. She is a very rude and mean person and she made my life miserable! Everyone else says the same thing about her.! She should be fired immediately! Please do not take this class unless you want to fail!
Make sure you've done some Calculus before taking Dr. Flothmann.
Terrible. She gives you so much homework and doesn't teach in class. When you ask a question in class she belittles you and says things like "we already learned that were you paying attention". She is such a tough grader. She doesn't give partial credit on the exams and grades very harshly.
Flothmann is a bad teacher. The content itself is not hard, but the way she goes about teaching students makes it very easy to not do well. She does not care if you pass or not, and is not here for your best interest. I don't even have enough characters to go into the little ways in which she trips up her students preventing them from succeeding
The class was hard. A lot of people either failed or did poorly. I normally never do bad in math and got the worst grade Ive ever gotten. The Professor was rude to students and did not seem to care.
Worst professor should not be teaching!
I had taken calculus in the past, but the way she teaches the material made it so much more difficult than it needed to be. Shes not particularly very nice either, you get scolded for not making her class your #1 priority and if you ask a question she just says you figure it out. If I knew the answer I wouldnt be asking for help:/
Prof. Flothmann is a great mth 162 teacher. The class can be a bit boring but she generally explains the concepts well. Lots of webassign hw but at least its easy to get 100 on those. Tests and quizzes require a lot of studying. Tests can be quite long so you have to work quick. You can replace a test grade if you do better on your final
She is always happy to answer any questions you have at the start of class or any other questions during the lesson. Gives a reasonable amount of homework. Tests are very similar to worksheets given in class and she gives lots of partial credit on them. Cracks a joke every once in a while to lighten the mood.
She is professor who genuinely cares. She might go fast on the easy topics but if you ask her questions she most definitely will answer them. If she sees that the class is doing bad on the quizzes then she will give opportunity for extra credit. Absolutely loved her. Her worksheets have notes and example questions which come in the exams!
To many Homeworks. She graphs every problems even if she not supposed to. Her quizzes are harder that her exams. Do not underestimate her worksheets question. I will never take her classes ever again, and I will not make my friends take her classes to.
Solid choice for a math prof. Her test have no surprises and she genuinely wants you to learn. Study the worksheets and you should do well. She also gives a lot of bonus points which is super helpful. Class can get boring but try your best to focus. She also makes an effort to learn everyone's name which made me more comfortable asking for help.
She offers lots of opportunities for extra credit and her tests are very fair. There are 3 exams and the final and it is very easy to do well on. She is a little bit hard to understand, but her worksheets are very helpful and after a while you'll be able to understand her accent. She's honestly the best math teacher, you should definitely take her.
Go to her office hours they really help. She wants you to understand the material. Work is not easy but its understandable. Great professor!
Professor Flothmann is an amazing math teacher with great passion for calculus. I had her for Math 151 and 162 and found her lectures to be very straight forward. The exams are often very similar to the in class worksheets as well as the review guides she prepares before exams. If you want to actually learn this material take this professor.
