This professor doesn't go over difficult concepts in detail. Her perspective is that if she goes over easy concepts in detail, it will make getting the difficult concepts easier. Prof will not curve b/c there are a few As. Last test Avg. was 48%.
She is super helpful and works very hard to accommodate every student. The material is hard to learn, so this class can be difficult. This professor does not treat you like just a another student, she will learn your name and teach you on a personal level. She also keeps great office hours.
Very cool professor. She is super helpful and really wants her students to succeed. The material was difficult but she made it fun and interesting. I definitely recommend Dr Maron.
I enjoyed this professor's approach to teaching chemistry. Dr. Maron explained easy and difficult concepts in a clear and concise manner. She is also very well organized and I really like her style -- very cool.
Dr. Maron is very helpful and tends to be friendly. You can tell she's a hard worker and sometimes gets overwhelmed by so much grading. I took 4 semesters of upper division chemistry labs with her and she's not easy at all. Extremely long post labs (25 hrs+) & unclear guidelines at times. I have heard she's gotten better about guideline clarity. B+
Dr Maron is a difficult proffesor but it doesn't mean that getting an A in the class is impossible. I've done it and you can too. She gives extra credits opportunities and she is nice to talk to at her office hour. DO NOT WAIT TILL THE LAST MINUTE TO DO YOUR HWs OR LABs. Do them early and you won't have any problems.
She's very tough, but fair. She has a good sense of humor and is a nice person. She expects her students to work very hard, because she works hard, and despite being a lower division class, Gen Chem 1 will always be hard. The only way to do well/pass is to stick with it and put the time in.
All of her lectures are online, which is helpful for reviewing material from lecture outside of class. If you need help she's always there to answer questions and clarify. For anyone taking this class in the future, make sure you do the practice problems at the end of the book. That's where she gets a lot of her problems from.
I attended every single lecture, stayed on top of my homework and labs, practiced and studied, and I'm failing. The reasons for this is that the only 3 exams are 90% of the grade, even though most of the time you're just doing her homework. I learned a lot, but I'm failing because of her tests and lack of review, notecard, or curve.
Summer Gen Chem 1 with her was the hardest thing I've ever done. She does not curve. You do not get a notecard. She's caring though, has a dry sense of humor that I like, and wants you to succeed. You're going to have to study a lot and do a lot of homework. But it will pay off if you stick with it until the end.
She was nice and gave many extra credit opportunities, but if you don't do the reading or pay attention, your grade will suffer. It is very easy to get lost in lecture because she just talks the whole time and it get very boring. Overall she is nice but I would not take her again.
Dr. Maron does her job like she needs to. The class topics are just hard. To pass this class with a B or higher you have to go above and beyond on studying if chemistry is really not your thing. There is not a lot of assignments in the gradebook, the grades you get on the tests really make your whole grade. So you better study, study, study.
Dr Maron was an amazing teacher,Chem 1 not so much. The class itself is tough and requires tons of reading outside of class. Dr Maron does great in making sure the materials are broken down in a way that is easily understood. She will literally tell you that what she is about to cover in class will be on the exam. Just study hard and you will pass.
Dr. Maron is very clear with what she expects from you. She is one of the best chemistry teachers at the school and gives ample extra credit opportunities. Highly recommend+++
Dr. Maron is amazing! Sometimes the labs can be confusing and she understands that and is very helpful as long as you ask. She doesn't put up with any crap though, so if you slack off I don't think you will do well. Overall, Dr. Maron is super helpful and very knowledgable.
When I say tough grader I mean it! I have never met any teacher who would grade so harshly. Also if you can try to become her favorite student I would, because she'll help her favorite students ALOT. If you do anything that isn't right to her she will publicly humiliate you, so heads up shy students!
Unfortunately, if you are a chemistry major you have to take Maron at some point because she's the only instructor for Analytical Chem lab. Her policy is to treat students "equally," not well. So good luck having fun in this course.
What I like about her is that she is very clear with what she expects from her student. However she is a tough grader. There is no curve and she won't hesitate to take points off of your assignment. I put in the wrong unit for my data sheet and she took away all 40 points!!! She does not assume ANYTHING so be sure to double check your assignment!
Restored my faith in chemistry as a chem major
My class started with over 200 students and by the end of the semester, there was only 43 students left who didnt drop her class. Her exams are quite tough and she made the ACS exam the final exam score for us. Im not taking another class with her.
Dr. Maron was pregnant during the course so she left mid-semester, which was annoying because she is such a good instructor. She is really silly, but she really cares about her students. She gave extra credit, and her in class problems are helpful. She is really uptight about how you address her, its Dr. Maron, so beware!
I absolutely HATED Maron at first, but over the course of the semester all the hard work she made us do really paid on for her General Chemistry course. I'm super glad to have taken her and I'm definitely going to take her again for her physical chemistry class.
Dr. Maron is really passionate about chem and cares about students. She assigns random homework assignments and in-class extra credit questions that are worth a lot so make sure you. However, beware the online chemistry homework she assigns because it's tedious and really annoying.
Dr. Maron is an AMAZING professor! She is more than willing to provide students with help and she is very passionate about what she does. She makes her expectations very clear and does her best to encourage all of her students to succeed. She is very good at explaining difficult material, but expects you to know base material.
She was nice, but marons class started with about 200 people and ended with maybe 70. Super hard tests. If you're not a science person already, I wouldn't take maron.
Pros: She is intelligent, insightful and interesting. Her dry sense of humor is hilarious. Likely INTJ. Cons: If she's thrown a curve ball with an uncoventional question or answer to a question, she can be rude. Maybe it's unintentional, idk. Don't take this with any other class during the summer, including the lab. Way too many assignments.
Don't listen to the bad reviews because those are seriously people that did not apply themselves. If you don't get an A in this class, you really slacked off. The tests are difficult if you DONT STUDY! I wanted to cry when I looked at a chemistry problem at the beginning of this class, and when I was taking the final I felt at ease. She's amazing
If you are bad at science, this is the professor you are looking for. She explains every little detail until you understand. She will stop lecture for as long as it takes to answer a question, SO ASK!!! She can be a little condescending but I don't think she means to. You have weekly ALEKS homework but no quizzes so that's nice. Only two tests
Great prof, if you put in the effort you will understand the material and do well in the class.
Dr. Maron is the best teacher I've had at UCDenver so far. She is really helpful and genuinely cares about her students. There is plenty of room for extra credit and her class isn't even that hard so long as you read the chapters and do the ALEKS homework. She is very patient during her office hours and honestly wants students to ask questions
She is a good teacher - knows what shes talking about. She can seem rude sometimes but that is just how she is. She is a very tough grader and definitely makes you work for it. PAY ATTENTION IN LECTURE and do online ALEKS homework!
Marta does not explain things easily. I found doing the online ALEKS homework more understandable than what she has to say in class. She reads right off of the slides she posts on canvas, but she grades easily and the tests are not terrible, so if you can follow along on ALEKS you should be fine.
I took her for CHEM 1000 and will be taking her again for CHEM 2061 in the summer. Shes a good professor who cares about the students' understanding of the material. The ALEKS homework is easy and allows you to understand the material better. She does in-class examples and reviews before exams which are so helpful come test time. She's awesome.
Dr. Maron is awesome, she really cares about her students. She makes you do ALEKS which will help you a lot understanding her lectures. She gives A LOT of opportunities for extra credit as well. I really enjoyed her class.
I failed the first exam of the semester. I met with Dr Maron during office hours after and she helped me to get back on track and do well. She gives lots of extra credit opportunities and her assignments are designed to help you learn. Get lectures are clear and funny. She truly understands students' struggles and cares about their success.
Dr. Maron was a spectacular professor. She provided detail outside of the scope of the textbook and was always available in her office if you had questions or needed help. She was very helpful through everything that came up personally throughout the semester as well. She also provides a TON of extra credit but because of this she doesn't curve.
Dr. Maron is a great chemistry professor. She lectures slow and makes sure you understand the material. She is also a very fair grader.
Took Maron for chem 1 and loved her class. Take her if you want to pass chem, she offers A LOT of extra credit and her tests are based on the practice problems from the text book. Has a lot of online hw through ALEKS but offers a lot of extra credit with it. Has attendance points, and sometimes the lecture is too fast and boring but can pass test
Dr. Maron is a great professor. She cares about her students understanding the course material. She assigns homework that aids in mastering the material. Her exams are difficult, but if you go to class and complete the homework, you will pass.
She is a great chem professor and has a dry sense of humor. She uses ALEKS a lot, but as long as you pay attention to the lectures and follow the rubrics you can pass the class. There was a lot of extra credit opportunities and I recommend taking as many as you can because they usually go towards exams. I only read the textbook if I was confused.
Maron is a great professor and in class lecture follows ALEKS. Only con to the class is ALEKS is heavily used and depended . You learn a lot but you have to try real hard
Dr. Maron is an amazing teacher and tries to make Chemistry as interesting as possible. Be prepared to do online homework. May need to read to understand the topics. Highly recommend her.
hard class! lots of homework. maron is there for you but would not recommend unless you are passionate about the sciences. if you have a life outside of school, do not take her, you will spend all your time doing Aleks and studying.
She's very helpful outside of class, but gosh darn does she go fast during lecture! Lots of online HW that sometimes doesn't make sense unless you ask her. There's some extra credit for going to events around campus. A lot of the grade is based on the tests!
Dr. Maron is the best professor I've ever had. Her class is difficult but she wants you to learn and offers many opportunities for extra credit. She's always there to answer questions and her dry humor makes lecture entertaining. She truly cares about her students and is a great resource.
Dr M talks really fast. She gives like 1 min to do examples during lecture & talks abt unrelated stuff(like GreysAnatomy) the whole time you're trying to solve a prob u've never seen before. If you haven't completed it by then she is incredulous. If I'm having difficulty keeping up I know others prob feel hopeless. SLOW DOWN and let us work!
I took her in the summer, and it was super fast-paced. We had exams every two weeks which was difficult. It is harder if you do not have a solid foundation in dimensional analysis and unit conversions. Maron gave lots of extra credit opportunities as well. Her exams are not difficult! Just do the practice problems in the book, and you will get an A
Dr. M was an amazing professor. Her dry humor is funny, and she always offers lots of extra credit. Because of the extra credit, I was able to get an A in her class. You have to work for her exams, because she doesn't give you a note card (unless in the summer). All the questions she puts on her exams can be located in the book. Do lots of practice
She can be intimidating and scary, but is actually super nice. In class, she will go over questions u need help with. She uses Aleks for homework, which can take a while, so make sure you do at least 6 topics a day to stay on track. Her exams aren't tough, as long as you study! She offers many extra credit opportunities that goes toward exams!
Maron is an outstanding professor for General Chemistry. Her class can be difficult but this is the chemistry department, and no class will be easy, its all about the quality of professor, and Maron is simply the best. There is a lot of work to be done, but the exams are based on content covered in class. Outstanding professor with dry humor.
Dr. Maron is the BEST professor in the chemistry department! You can tell that she truly cares about her students & gives LOTS of extra credit. Chem is a hard subject but she tries her best to make sure all students understand before moving on. Her exams are fairly easy as long as you study & keep up with the content! Overall, would recommend !!
Dr. Marons lectures are very engaging (for chemistry) she has a dry sense of humor. Explains things really well and is very understanding. Gives an insane amount of extra credit. Uses ALEKS but will discuss hard problems and adjust objectives accordingly. Overall a great professor!!
She offered extra credit and I did it but she never gave me credit for it.
Dr. Maron is the nicest professor in the chemistry department hands down. She makes you work for your grade but as long as you have put a decent amount of work into the class she will be willing to work with you as far as due dates and grading goes. My one complaint for this class is the amount of homework, she really loves ALEKS, like a lot.
I loved this class, if you want to understand chemistry and are struggling with the math, Dr. Maron will really help you out. Her lectures are really amazing and she is a really personable and funny teacher. ALEKS homework is a lot, but overall really helpful and as long as you do the work and any extra credit, you'll be fine.
Maron was amazing this semester. Probably the only class i looked forward to going to. She is so nice, energetic, and funny. Her lectures are amazing and she is great at explaining things so that you understand what she is saying and also answering questions whenever they arise. Would definitely recommend for any chem takers!
This Forensic Chemistry class was billed as "for non-science majors" and honestly, everything was mostly good. She uploaded lectures and the labs were straightforward but the tests, which were from the textbook publisher, were INSANELY hard, not expected or consistent with the level of difficulty for the material, and really brought my grade down.
She is kind and gives lots of extra credit. Take her if you want an easy A but dont if you care about learning about chemistry. The student who studies all semester will get the same grade as the student who sleeps through class, take that how you wish.
I might have gotten a C-, but I would NOT have passed if it wasn't for Dr. Maron. This has been the hardest class I have taken to date (Chem is so not my thing), but Dr. Maron is a fabulous teacher and very willing to help (you need only ask). Tests are extremely hard, so beware.
Dr. Maron is amazing! she is truly there for you and will go over problems when you need help. Her assignments will actually help you learn and retain the material. She offers tons of extra credit too. My only problem is that she uses Aleks instead of mastering chemistry, which I personally don't like.
Do NOT take her classes online. I'm not sure if in person lectures are better, but I didn't learn anything from hers. I felt like I was teaching myself. Also, don't take a lab online. I broke bones in two different places this semester and would have broken 20 more if it meant I could get out of the lab.
Dr. Maron has by far been the best professor Ive had at UC Denver. If you have personal issues, shes more than accommodating with them and will adjust deadlines if you need it with no questions asked. ALEKS is a buzzkill, but with the amount of extra credit she gives the class immediately becomes less stressful, and I HATE chemistry. 10/10
I can honestly say that she is one of the best professors I've had so far, especially during a pandemic! She is understanding on extensions, willing to work with you, and makes the course material easy to understand and every lecture is enjoyable because of her humor. She gives plenty of extra credit so not doing well in this class is impossible.
She is so nice and has so many opportunities to get extra credit and she will always extend any homework you couldn't complete in time. Best professor for chemistry.
Dr. Maron is amazing! She is funny to have as a professor and makes learning chemistry not so terrible. Her exams were open note but still challenging. ALEKS can be annoying but it really does help with understanding everything in the course. She offers a ton of extra credit and the assignments are actually helpful.
Maron is an understanding professor. She goes really in depth and is such a kind teacher, also really available for help outside of class and through email. Gen Chem 2 is significantly harder than Chem 1, you have to work a lot harder for the grade but Maron is really helpful. However, there is a lot of ALEKS homework to be aware of.
Dr. Maron was my Chemistry savior. I withdrew from gen chem 1 the semester before I had her, and I was convinced I was going to be terrible at this subject. But she came in and saved the day. She made the content engaging and understandable. It was still a hard class but I felt encouraged every step of the way.
Dr. Maron was a wonderful lecturer and she would do everything, even take time while at home with her family, to zoom with students and help them. Some students forgot to show up for the first test, and she let them retake it. Others filled it in with ink, she did it in pencil for them. She really cares about her students
This class was extremely difficult and will be difficult regardless of which professor you take it with. I am so relieved I got Dr. Maron as my professor. She is by far one of the best instructors I have ever had. She gives you an insane amount of extra credit opportunities & deadline extensions to make up for the difficult exams. Highly recommend.
Dr. Maron was extremely helpful and is definitely the best option when it comes to a Chem class. Although content can be difficult, she offers A LOT of extra credit and is very flexible in taking late work. A lot of the homework given is just about actually completing it and you'll most likely pass.
Maron's class is hard just because it is chemistry but if you do all and I mean ALL of the ALEKS objectives you'll be fine. I did average on ALEKS and did very low on exams, but if you just want to pass that will be fine. But, I do encourage you to go to the SL meetings and study meetings for help as it is a math-heavy subject.
Dr. Maron is the best professor everrrrr. She cares about her students, the material itself is hard but if you did good in GEN CHEM 1 you will be just fine. I also recommend students to take Algebra basics courses beforehand since this course requires lotssss of math. BUT JUST REMEMBER THAT IF YOU PUT THE EFFORT INTO THE COURSE you w get the grade
Chem 2 is a challenging course and moves very quickly. Every day, you go over many topics, and it can quickly get overwhelming. Maron is available to help, is very loose on late work, and offers many extra credit opportunities. This course is hard but Maron truly wants her students to succeed.
Dr. Maron has been by far one of my favorite professors. I took her for both Chem 1 and 2. She is a very caring person and is always willing to help explain and help you through things. Her lectures are the best and she explains things very very clearly. She's also really funny and is always joking around. Highly recommend taking her courses.
Maron was really the reason I even passed chemistry. She's super caring about her students and always tried to help her students pass. The aleks homework was pretty straight forward. If you're just going into chemistry please please please take Maron for your grade and mental health.
I hate her so much
Dr. Maron is a great professor who recognizes that students have other classes and commitments. Her teaching style consists of "you will get what you put into it", therefore most of her activities are graded for completion and she accepts most late work with no late penalty. She is caring and very flexible which is a life saver in chemistry.
She was an amazing professor during my first year. Very accessible outside of lecture. All of her assignments were able to be extended all the way until the day before the final, and she NEVER took points off for late work for any assignment (full points on late work!) Very funny and tends to ramble, but still teaches material in the end. Take her!
Dr. Maron made chemistry easy to understand and the class relatively easy to pass. She offers extra credit almost immediately and doesn't usually penalize late work. She is the total opposite of Burrows. She offers extensions and is super understanding of the life of a college student. 11/10. She's makes lecture a lot more tolerable.
Maron offers extra credit opportunities, and as long as you complete everything, getting a bad grade on the final doesn't exactly tank you grade like one might expect. An amazing professor overall!
Overall a great professor. Loved her! Definitely recommend her. Make sure you do all the homework and assignments. Take advantage of extra credit opportunities and you will be fine!
Dr. Maron is one of the best professors ever. Chemistry is hard and she does a good job at teaching it. She is there to help if you are not understanding the material. She is very understanding that life happens sometimes. She believes in you which really means a lot. An A is for sure achievable as long as you put in the effort.
Dr. Maron is amazing. She really knows her stuff and explains things so well. Shes great with answering questions and will go into depth during lecture to make sure you understand. Go to lecture, you will fall behind quick if you miss.
Maron is an amazing chem professor. I am currently in her General Chemistry II class and have a 97, and I passed Gen Chem I with about the same. She gives SO MUCH opportunity for success and extra credit. It's clear that anyone who rated her poorly is just a bad student or did not understand concepts of chemistry on a fundamental level.
An amazing chem teacher that tries her best to motivate her students. She is so easy to talk to and she makes sure to help you understand what you are struggling with if you reach out for help. She reminds her students what they are cable of almost every day and she always has the energy to make the class fun.
I loved her so so much! So many opportunities for extra credit, which really helps to understand the course material and bring your grade up! Dr. Maron really cares about her students and just an amazing professor!
Humorous in class, promoted the use of the learning center and gave several different tutoring options to help students pass their classes.
Tbh I really suck at chem and dont like the chem as a whole (took for requirement) but I loved Maron! She is funny, understanding, and creates PLENTY of extra credit opportunities. She really does want you to succeed in her class. He deadlines for everything is the day before the final, which was great!
Goat of Chem, come to lecture, put the effort, make it happen. If you try, you'll get what you deserve. (Extra Credit is CRAZY)
While she wasnt my favorite professor she is still a good one. She is very lecture heavy so if that's not the type of learning that helps you, steer away from having her as a professor. She does give a lot of opportunities for extra credit and does not have due dates for her assignments so they can be turned in till the end of the semester.
Maron is typically a slower professor, but makes sure everyone understands the material as you go in lecture. That being said, the information for labs most likely won't be covered before the lab is done. However, the professor is super understanding and gives extensions if you ask.
Currently the Gold standard of general chemistry classes. I am not saying she is the absolute best, but if you are stuck on what professor to take, taking Dr. Maron is always a safe bet. No quizzes, only midterms and exams. You can basically get an A if you do good on those and good on the online "homework" (called ALEKS). Participation is recorded
Dr. Maron is the best Chemistry professor on the planet. Thats it.
If I could rate this professor below a 1 out of 5 I would. Her teaching style is horrendous. If not even 1 person out of 100+ mostly pre-med students can score above an 88 across 2 tests, it's time to look yourself in the mirror and realize you are not good at your job. Comes into class and complains for 20+ minutes about how it's not her fault too
She is a very kind person, but she is not good at her job whatsov
She is a kind person, but is a horrible teacher. Her tests are worded differently from the assignment questions and ALEKS assignments. The average for most her tests are 30s and she blames students for the average being so low.
I major in political science, so I'm not very science-oriented. I've always had a difficult time understanding scientific concepts. However, I was required to take a science class with a lab to graduate, so I chose this class. Surprisingly, it has become one of my all-time favorites.
If you are scared of taking chemistry, I would recommend this course/professor. The lab assignments were actually fun and her late policy was beyond flexible if you need more time to complete assignments.
Dr.Maron doesn't know how to teach all she did in lectures was read from the lecture slides. She does provide extra credit. But the exams were very hard and some of the questions were not mentioned from the lectures. There were 25 multiple choice questions and each question is worth 4 points so if you get 5 questions wrong you're screwed.
Her ability to convey the material is good, but she doesn't explain it in enough detail and goes through it very fast.
She is a good person but not good at teaching. I did the ALEKS homework and studied for the tests, but I still did poorly on the exams. The class average was usually a D on the exams. The final exam was honestly easier because it was the ACS exam and not an exam she wrote.
The tests were tough, and Aleks was annoying at times, but overall Dr. Maron was a very funny, kind, well educated, and respectful teacher. Once, she told our class we had the "common sense of crackers," and now that's a phrase my friend and I use with each other all the time. You can tell that she is very passionate about Chemistry :)
Literally the best professor I've ever had!! Period.
make sure you have good study guides
really good teacher class is not hard just make sure your doing weekly aleks work which should take 30 min or less and make sure to do practice tests before tests
Dr. Maron is a great chemistry professor. The class can be lecture-heavy, but she makes sure everyone understands. Utilize all the help resources, like the learning center, and you'll succeed. Unstuck study is also a handy study tool.
The professor's teaching style relies HEAVILY on Alek. Class is lecture-heavy and fast-paced. A lot of content requires practice and extra time to study outside of class. I wished the class had more active learning through discussions, problem-solving, and group work. A lot of the lectures were passively receiving information.
Dr. Maron was an amazing chemistry professor. I took her for Gen Chem 1. Her lectures are fast paste. She gives extra credit for the Aleks homework. There's no quizzez but there is 3 major exams and the ACS exam. In between the slide shows, she will do example problems. Ask questions and she will answer them. Will definitely take her again
It's more difficult for me to learn online so that's definitely one of the aspects, but there's a lot of reading & math you need to learn & understand to do the homework (which I could sometimes spend 4 hours on). She is very forgiving & gives extensions for full credit up to the end of the semester & w/o that I prob would've failed her class.
For it being a course for non-science majors, this is difficult as a summer course. I was not having a good time. It is a lot of math. It is a lot of work. If you don't like chemistry, you are not going to have fun. Thankfully, she gave us the ability turn in our work for full credit before the final exam. I would have failed this course, otherwise
Maron will truly make sure that students understand something thoroughly before moving on, and encourages students to ask questions without making them feel bad. It's super easy to ask for help outside of class. For grading, she grades more based on explanation rather than on what is correct, allowing for better feedback. She's also very friendly.
