Dr. Allen is an amazing teacher! She is tough, but she is willing to help you in any way she can, and she really wants her students to succeed in her classes. I would recommend her to anyone struggling with math!
Dr. Allen is hard, but the best teacher in the math department.

ive had her for both. she is a great teacher. she is willing to help you the best she can. she isnt hard as long as you do the hw. i should have had an A in calc 1 but didnt study for final. and i am strivin for an A in Calc 2. you just have to do the hw, and get help from her if you dont understand
She is a horrible teacher who loves to fail her chemistry students. She is way too smart to be teaching, she should do something more productive for society.
one of the best for Cal. Printed notes but be careful she give pop quizes if you don't do the homework
I hate math, and am terrible at it. Dr. Allen really took the time to make sure everything was clear. I exsp. reccomen her summer courses.
she was a horrible teacher. she laughed when people could not understand. get kelly or edler
Dr. Allen is very organized in her notes, handouts, and the order she teaches different sections. She works hard to make sure the class understands the material, and she doesn’t mind answering any questions about the material. She really helped me learn such a hard subject.

Very Unhelpful Take any one else. i had already taken the course in high school and was tutering people. She is the only teacher in high school that i have had in college that is bad.
Gives very clear explanations and is very helpful.
Gives great handouts and review problems
She is a great teacher, she gets a bad rap sometimes but she knows what she is talking about. Very helpful. While she isn't exactly easy, she isn't very hard either, notes are clear and concise since she gives handouts for all notes. I strongly advise taking her. One bad thing is she is very shy and timid, not a loud talker and stutters some.
I did not like her at all. I love math and she knew what she was talking about but did not really explain at all. You must go to class if you miss more than three classes she will take your grade down a letter. Not the end of the world if you get her just pay attention and do your work but if you can avoid her i would.
She's pretty good. Not the best approach to Calculus but she stiil gets the main points across.
Good professor. Very helpful if you ask for me, willing to answer any stupid questions you have. Absolutely no sense of humor.
very good teacher, explains things clearly
Wow, way to boring for me, easy class got a B without any effort, sometime though she is unclear and can confuse you. My strategy was show up sleep and teach myself and it worked for me. If you wanna learn though i would find a different teacher
Do not take this person, she is not a good teacher and not helpful at all
Extremely hard class. Took AP Calc in high school and barely pulled a B in this class. Avoid. Her grade distribution for my class is as follow A-1 B-3 C-9 D-5 F-5 (Math and Pre-Engineering Majors Only)... If you take her get ready to work hard.
Have to work hard in class but an A is achievable. she is very clear about teaching and knows how to present the information in a simple way. attendence is mandatory but going to class is a good idea because she gives you outline of notes. Book was not really used except for homework problems.
Fantastic Math teacher. she is very tough but whe you finish her class you know how to do the math. I made a C both semesters but would take her again if I could. she prints off note outlines which are extremely helpful.
This class is awful! She is not good explaining anything.
DO NOT TAKE HER!! She is not a good teacher. Tricks you on tests... it was ridiculous!
Dude, take everyone's advise. She handed out drop slips for her class after the first test. Out of a class of 30 over half failed the first test, her quizzes aren't easy. She is kinda like a high school teacher or at least feels like she has to prove some transition from High School To College. Needs Creativity
This class is not for students who are looking to slide by. Dr. Allen is very creative in creating test and quiz questions, but she prepares you ahead of time. Dr. Allen is great at explaining why certain things work, and you will actually understand the reasoning behind calculus if you take her class. She's not easy, but the class is worth it.
She can't teach and makes the tests very hard. Which is not a good combination. I withdraw ed from her class.
Worst teacher ever when I took her about half of the class dropped. She is too smart to teach!
She is very unclear in teaching, cannot even express simple ideas from geometry. Do not take her, its a waste of time as the attendance is mandatory.
I took her for calc. and foundations of mathematics. As a calc. teacher i thought she was great and easy, and gave a lot of chances to bounce back i got an A. DO NOT GET ON HER BAD SIDE! She may not look like it but she gets very annoyed if you do miss class or homework and struggle a lot. Try to be a teachers pet, she likes that.
Great teacher in terms of Calculus II concepts. Tests are rough but not confusing. I am currently retaking her class and see that I am doing well. I should have no problem getting an A. I would recommend her if you want to really know the material.
Nice teacher, but very timid. She teaches by showing how to do everything during class(meaning you do little to no actual work during class-she just talks to you). This isn't necessarily bad, but I learn better by doing hands-on work/trial & error. If you do the homework & are strong in Math, you will do well. Otherwise, I would stay away.
Terrible teacher. She is the reason my GPA sucks. Very difficult class, but you'll be fine as long as you do well on your homework and attend EVERY class. And when I say fine, I mean you will get a C probably.
Dr. Allen is a great teacher. She's adorable in an older woman who gets really excited about teaching math way. Her class is tough, especially if you have never been introduced to Calculus before; however, she is very helpful. Attendance is not "mandatory" but you receive grades for participation so if you are not there you get a zero for the day
This was the easiest math class I've had since 8th grade. She over explains everything in my opinion and it drives me insane. For example if there are 3 ex. problems she will go over the most minute detail every time. I'm sure some would like that style of teaching however. Lots of group work in the class which is free 100s. Test pretty easy imo.
Forces you to pay $95.20 for access to the homework website. Does not explain anything. Is lazy and puts everyone in teams so she doesn't have to teach. Expects you to stay hours over class time to take her tests. Insults other classes during class time. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
Awful teacher! She expects so much out of her students. She is very awkward and timid while teaching. Tests are hard even with some fill in the blanks! Her class requires way to much work for a Pre-Cal class. Unless you are very good at math I would advise taking math with another teacher. She is very picky about what she wants in the class.
Stay away!! I took her for precalc and received my first C ever! Hard to understand her teaching. It is almost as if she is too smart to explain the material. Don't be fooled by the first unit, the tests only get harder as you progress through the semester.
If you have the choice do not take this teacher. She expects too much out of her precalculus students and doesn't allow calculators..like who would do that? She is awkward and unapproachable in my opinion. I made a 69.46 in the class and couldn't give me a C after talking to her. Don't take her.
Dr. Allen is NOT an easy professor. She provides good lectures, but requires a lot of time after class. Her tests are fair, but will provide a spread in the grades. I disagree with other reviews that tests are tricky. Many problems are straightforward, but there are some that separate the A's from the A+'s. I'd recommend Dr. Allen's classes.
Everything we learned in class was taught her way. If problems were not done exactly to her standards then major points are taken off. Written explanations are required for every math problem, and this is a math class. Dr Allen has had a condescending attitude during day one and questions were not encouraged during class. This class was awfull
Okay so I had her for Calc 1. She was an uncomfortable teacher with the way she taught and made me feel (awkward). We had to start off class with an essay? What... an essay in C 1 about us. Anyways she incorporated teaching the class her way and it is difficult. Do not recommend for people to take unless you want to put effort to understanding her.
She is a good teachee
She is a very good teacher who goes in depth and proves why everything works. If you're struggling she will Help you. If you are competent when it comes to math you should get an A.
If you haven't suffered any recent concussions this class is an easy A
She is very clear with explanations. She puts you in groups so that you can practice the problems and walks around making sure all of your notation and work is correct. She makes sure you get something out of her class
Dr. Allen's lectures are very clear and she thoroughly explains all new material. Calculus 2 is a very difficult class so it can be easy to become discouraged at the beginning of the course. However, if you participate in teamwork, pay attention in class and regularly attend SI sessions you should do well.
Her lectures tend to get into the concept behind the math rather than the math itself. This can be really helpful at times. If you go to class, pay attention, go to the SI as soon as you start to struggle, and give the class a solid amount of effort you'll do well.
Dr Allen Is a great professor, do not listen to anyone who tells you to drop the class. She does make your work for your grade, but that is honestly what you are supposed to due. She gives handouts for every section that you learn, the quiz and test come straight from that. Keep this professor if you have her.
Dr. Allen is a great professor who genuinely cares about the success of her students. Her teaching style forces you to understand the course material instead of memorizing it. You will also be better prepared for more advanced math courses if you have to take any. Attend class, pay attention, and do the homework and you'll do great!
Dr. Allen is very nice, and she will make you earn your grade. If you are willing to do the practice problems, attend the S.I. sessions, go to the learning center, and go to her office hours, do because you will be so prepared for calculus 2. If you do those things, it should be manageable to earn at least a B.
Dr. Allen is a good professor however, she talks a lot. She likes to make sure her students are on track. You will rarely find her in her office. As long as you go to class, you will get an A.
Dr. Allen is a very smart person, and I think she is a good teacher. She encourages students to follow along by asking questions, and assigning teamwork (during class), and sometimes the whole class will discuss problems. She understands math very well, she can even teach it through pictures. However, she is a RUTHLESS grader, and tests are hard.
Dr. Allen is very awkward and she is not a great teacher. You will be forced to do a LOT of group work in her class and she gives out pop quizzes very often.
If you're just getting out of high school and took AP Stat, quantitative skills and reasoning will be very easy. The easiest math class I have ever taken was her class because it was all homework and EASY homework. Just attend class because lots of pop quizzes and homework checks. Easy A.
Her lectures are extremely boring and very, very awkward. The only reason I passed was by going to all of the SI sessions.
She is a great teacher if you try she will help you. She gives trick questions on her test but will help if you go to office hours. She LOVES it when students go to her office for office hours. She does a lot of group work. Gives strong hits about the pop quizzes. GO TO SI SESSIONS. I would totally take her class again.
Martha Allen is the most awkward professor I have ever encountered. She seems so unsure of everything she is teaching. She assigns homework every night and will give pop quizzes on it the following day. Even though the work itself isn't difficult, she was so awkward her class made me uncomfortable.
The class is difficult but worth it. She gives out a lot of extra credit if you participate in class and write out your answers on tests and quizzes well. There is a lot of homework, and even though it isn't graded, it is important to do it, or you won't do well in the class. She is awkward and takes a while to get used to, but she is very nice.
Calculus is hard - so Allen had a tough class to teach. She did good though, made sure we understood the material. Solid teacher. Thank goodness I'm not a math major.
Worst professor I've had. She teaches everyone as if they're math majors. The tests are impossible to succeed on. She is not much help in her office hours. I took her knowing I would need to work hard, & thinking it can't be as bad as people say. No matter how hard you work, you will not meet her expectations. O-chem was easier.
My time in Dr. Allen's class was the worst school related experience I have ever had. She would skim the surface of problems and not tell us how or why something happened but then when you asked her why, she would give back bitter remarks. Also, she is extremely picky with grading. If your work isn't perfect to her standards, you wont get credit.
Dr. Allen is a great professor. If you attend class, do the homework (even though she doesnt grade it), and participate in class you will be fine.
I took this class during COVID, so it was all online. Dr Allen did not teach one single thing the entire semester. I spent countless hours attempting to teach myself math, when it should've been the teacher doing her job. She is rude, disrespectful to students, does not care about students, and didn't even teach on zoom, there wasn't even a zoom.
Very disrespectful teacher. When asking for help on email she would blame me not understanding on my effort in the class but i had an A. Class is said to be 2 days a week but she held 1 optional zoom per week where she didnt even teach. The final has questions from optional assignments which didnt ask the problem but asked it by the question #
Her teaching style is very unhelpful and does not give any extra credit like other comments say. The content isn't aggressively difficult and can be learned on your own luckily. Help was EXTREMELY hard to come by from this professor. This class was very unorganized and directions seemed unclear, it is important you stay on top of your work.
Although she may think sh his teaching well, she simply is not. She does not accommodate her students at all. Her tests and participation assignments are at times completely different than what she taught. The only reason I passed was because I learned from our student instructor. Would not recommend this teacher. no offense
Martha Allen was the most disrespectful, awkward, and unhelpful professor I have ever had. Considering I took this class during covid, she did NOTHING to help her students and 100% relied on her TA. She did not teach a single class, and when students reached out to her directly for help, she was in return bitter and snippy. Do not recommend.
she makes you do everything in a precise way so you cannot have any freedom to learn your own way
By far the worst professor Ive had out of the three years Ive been in college. She grades like youre a math major and doesnt give good examples to work off of. Her assessments are all graded tough so theres not much cushion for your grade. The exams are impossible and shes not much help if you email her. DO NOT take her for any math class.
The professor is an extremely harsh grader. If you do not answer the way she wants you to, then you will lose points. She gives you a lot of feedback on the material, but it does not do a lot of good. I would not take her again.
She straight up didn't do her job. Her classroom is 'flipped' meaning you teach yourself outside of class and come to class as like a study hall and ask questions as needed. seems ok? she sits at her desk all day and when you ask a question she belittles you and tells you to check your notes. Shes practically helpless. would NOT recommend her.
I took her Quantitative reasoning class and instead of teaching the class, she makes you group up with peers and help each other so if you ask her a question, she wont really answer it. Other than tests, your homework, activities and quizes are online. (its nice until it gets marked wrong for an extra comma) Be ready to teach yourself....alot
She does not teach. Expected us to be able to teach ourselves off of worksheets and videos. If she took the time to even teach one class a week it would help tremendously. Would not recommend this class if you are not math inclined.
Martha Allen is a horrible professor. I dropped out not becuase my grade was horrible (it was though) but becuase I belittled and constantly in tears outside of class. I felt like no matter how much I studied, I still could not get a good grade. My best advice would be to find a different math class and save ya'll some heartache.
If math comes easy to you and you're very self-disciplined, this class may be easier for you. I have a harder time w math though and she wasn't very much help whenever I asked her questions and going to her class was pretty much useless. Going to her was a last resort it seemed like. Be prepared to teach yourself.
Far and beyond the worst professor I have ever been "taught" by. First off, a "flipped classroom" is just a fancy way of saying "I'm gonna stand here at the front of the class and get paid to do nothing." Allen didnt teach me anything in this course, and whenever I asked for help, she was incredibly vague. Do NOT take her class if you can avoid it.
She is obviously an extremely smart person but her awkwardness and inability to teach come together to make one of the worst combinations for a professor. Her weekly quizzes are hard and the three tests over the course of the semester make up 60 percent of your overall grade. Be ready to study every day in the LC if you take her class.
Allen's class was tough. I constantly attended her office hours when I had questions. She gives good feedback on tests and quizzes and wants her students to succeed. I thought she was a good teacher and explained concepts well. I learned a lot. Students that take her class must be self disciplined and ready to study minimum 2 hours a day.
The homework was not similar to the quizzes and it wanted such an exact answer in certain formats but didn't say how. I could put a more simplified version of the answer and it would be wrong. The notes barley helped with anything, everything I learned was from a tutor I hired. I was .0001 off she asked me to prove why I deserved partial credit
The homework and quizzes are essentially the same. If you don't do your work outside of class you will fail. Get ready for at least 3 hours of outside work a week.
I personally would never retake this class. I find that the homework and practice activities don't come close to the difficulty of the tests and she was very snarky in emails requesting help and is useless if you have any questions on homework or quizzes and tests. If you are not naturally gifted at math I would not take this class.
I like Calculus, but she made that class a living hell. Exams were impossible and homework took hours every single day. Quizzes were super hard. She doesn't teach. She expects you to learn everything yourself before class. Homework is also stuff you've never been taught. She just has you answer questions in class without explaining how. AVOID HER.
Terrible. She sits at her desk staring into your soul watching your group struggle on the same problem for an hour. Trying to understand her explain problems consistently brought tears to my eyes. One time my group had to stay after class for an hour to complete an activity just to get a 70. Avoid taking this class if you want to keep your sanity.
This class was a flipped classroom which meant that we had to learn all the curriculum ourselves. Martha Allen also didn't contribute or help me when I was confused. Every class we would group up and help each other on our homework. When we would ask her questions if we were doing it right and she always said "I don't know you figure it out"
Don't take her, she was by far one of the worst teachers I have ever had. She is extremely awkward and will not help her students at all and she can't teach. She uses a flipped classroom method, which essentially means teach yourself. Homework load is heavy, and takes hours to do because you'll have to teach yourself through a series of videos.
First week of school a student asked for her help and I watched her belittle the student and answer back as if she was dumb for asking a question. It's a flipped classroom, so you teach yourself. Be prepared to spend around 3 hours on homework every week. Could be taken online. She is unhelpful
Dr. Allen is a horrible professor. You have to learn the topics yourself. Once, she snapped at me for using an arrow to show where I went on my paper for the next step. I have cried over this class and my grade countless times; this class and Dr. Allen will severely affect your mental health. If you have an option (which I didn't), do not take her.
She is one of the worst professors here at Georgia College. She does not know how to teach so she uses a flipped classroom and cannot even help you with questions in class. If you take this class get ready to teach yourself an entire semester's worth of material with no help from the person supposed to be teaching you.
It is very difficult to understand the math because she talks like you already know many higher level math terms and the online homework does not match her teaching. I have learned everything due to youtube and the learning center
This professor is very hard to learn from you have to really put in work to do even ok. It's all online and what you do all of class doesn't cover what's on tests. It's not an environment anyone feels like they can ask questions or for help, and if you do you won't get help and it is long and awkward. Do not take
I had Dr. Allen a few times in the past. I think students are way too harsh on her. If you go to class, listen to her lecture, take notes, and study you will do great. It is a lot of work, but I think that is true for any math class of this level or higher. She has office hours and will go above and beyond to help you if you care and put in effort.
Does not explain well at all, gets visibly annoyed when you ask questions. She answers questions in circles, not giving a clear answer often leaving you more confused then before. Also does not go over all of test material before test sometimes information is just in packets she gives you and does not explain them.
Do not take this teacher if you can help it. Even people who have a good grade, don't think she is a good teacher. She isnt good at explaining. She often whispers the lecture like she's talking to herself. When anyone asks her a question, she takes 10 min to give a roundabout answer that's not what you asked. You'll have to teach yourself
