an outstanding teacher...i reccommend her to anyone taking mac1101
Ms. BW is awesome! You have no idea.. take her course, you won't regret it!
knowledgable yes. relates material to students...not so well...get mad easy
Great professor.... brings ideas across clearly.
class was huge, didn't learn anything, boring tone, went fast for class of 500

Shes ok, but if you dislike math, then shes not the person to take, because during her lectures not only does she relate to problems that you wont need, but she gives you all the easy examples for notes and then all the hard stuff shows up on test.

I took this class and failed before because I had a bad teacher, but this teacher really cares about whether or not you learn the material. I loved her and can't say enough good things about her!!!
Helpful in office hours...Final helped grade out bigtime!
She explains everything soooo well! Definitely take her class!
the best math teacher ever! Explains everything well. I got C's in algebra 2....got an A in college algebra....shes great!
Hate the class, but she's a pretty good professor.
sooo boring, and her massive amounts of online math quizzes suck. her tests were ridiculously hard.
I used to hate math but this class changed that. Mrs. Blackwelder has great office hours and will meet with you outside of them as well. She explains concepts clearly, always answers questions, and truly cares about her students. Awesome lady!
If you just keep on taking the practice tests over and over, you'll get good scores on the tests. She is a good math professor and is pretty clear about what she is talking about. I definately recommend.
Good teacher, explains things well and truely wants you to do well. An attendance quiz is gievn every once in a while to help boost your grade. Take practice quizes.
She is grrrreat, I had her over summer and given the amount of time we had she explained everthing very well and she went as slow as possible, and she makes me laugh ha
excellent at explaining topics
Excellent teacher and very nice. Breaks down formulas and problems and makes it easy. I took it in the summer for only 6 weeks and got an A. Highly recommended.
SHE IS THE BEST MAC1105 TEACHER AT FLORIDA STATE!!! NO NEED TO SAY MORE.
I LOVE YOU
Shes a sweet country lady.
Very sweet woman.
This is the nicest woman ever! She is so sweet and is really good about helping the students understand what she is talking about. She is definitely the BEST MAC1105 professor around! She has a cute sense of humor too!
She was the most amazing teacher I have ever had in my entire life. She just has this incredible way of teaching and she helped me want to learn. I love her and she has one amazing gift. You rock Mrs. B!!!!!
She makes sure you learn your stuff.
she was amazing! the best teacher. i still use her notes for every math i take.
best math teacher ive ever ever had.. i usually do terrible in math and she makes everything seem so easy.. highly recommend!
She was a great teacher. Makes it easy to understand and actually entertaining.
Best College Algebra teacher at FSU. NO question about it. :o)
This is the best Algebra teacher at FSU, and she is an awesome teacher. She truely cares about all of her students succeeding. She is very helpful and truely care about her students. If you have to take Algebra at FSU, you better take it with her she is the Best.
The best. The bonus and take home quizes really help your grade. She made it seem soooo easy.
She was the sweetest teacher ever! Her bonus quizzes helped out my grade so much. I'm terrible at match and i managed to do good in her class. I would recommend her as a teacher for anyone.
This teacher is so awesome. She truly reminds me of my Grandma she is just too cute. HEr notes are awesome and she gives you credit when you go to class rather than punishing you for not. You also get to retake one test.
Awesome!! And very helpful and cute! You are allowed to retake a test, you get bonus quizes, you get excellent notes (so you should go to class), shes always there to help you, reviews the last day before the test too! What more could you want??
Martha is one delicious creature and a superb Math Teacher. The plaid jackets she wears brings out her eyes! But all kidding aside(though none of this was a joke)Ms. Blackwelder is a nice women. She's clear, passionate and could be considered a delicacy in many countries such as China,Kenya and Ghana! Take her class! Did I mention she was luscious?
Ms. Blackwelder is delactable!!!!
Boring and spends too much time on how not to do the work instead of the correct way to do things.
EASY class! EASY! Boarders on the edge of monotony. She is clarion as can be. She gives bonus point quizzes for an attendance check. Attendance is not mandatory and you probably won’t need the extra points. Don’t come to class if you’re tired, you will fall asleep.
strange woman seemingly uneducated in other areas.
A lot like Kutter in many ways. Provides tons of examples and her funny southern draw livens up the class. She's a stickler for people not leaving class before the time on the schedule! But overall don't drop her she's the best Trig teacher we have at FSU!
This class is a joke... but watching her get made when students leave was classic!
She's not so smart, but her class is easy
I took this professor because of her high ratings, but she was the most boring professor I've ever had. I always fell asleep in class b/c she goes over the same things again and again and its hard to focus. She's a stickler about attendance and does quizzes every single class time, and will fail you if you miss too many classes. It was easy though.
Shes entertaining to listen too, and her class is easy. She might be a little crazy though
She is cute as a button and is very sweet to everyone.
Like totally oh my god, she was awesome. I learned how to add, subtract and even how to finally multiply in her class. Totally recommend her for like all math classes. Like go lambda delta alpha.
boring, but pretty eaasy, daily extra bonus quizzes tho
she is such a great teacher. she wants everyone to do well and it is very apparent. if you know the information already then it might be a little repetitous but she has to teach it like you havent learned it and does a great job! bonus quizzes for attendance so go to class! :)
Awful teacher, really annoying and not helpful at all. Not recommended, horrible
she's a very sweet old lady, who tries to make jokes that aren't funny (but she thinks they are, so it's kind of funny). she really knows what she's doing, and can sometimes be snappy when the class isn't listening. but other than that she goes over everything very slowly and clearly. she gives lots of opportunity for extra credit via quizes and
She is such a sweet teacher. Everyone who said different was just lazy. She actually makes math easy. I suck at math and I got an A in this class. There are a lot of bonus quizzes and homework quizzes. They help out a lot. She a cute old lady. :)
good clear nice teacher
EASIEST class i have ever taken! Very very sweet lady, makes the class soo simple. You dont need to go to one class to do good, but she gives extra credit every class that you attend! If you dont need a higher math, deffintly take her!
class is easy. she is pretty boring...but she finds herself amusing, so sometimes its funny just to laugh at her dumb jokes
She is totally awesome. I now know how to add fractions b/c of her, something no other teacher was able to teach me. The only complaint I have though is that she couldn't explain dividing or multiplying fractions very well. I would suggest going to someone elses class for that lecture. Best of luck and go lambda, delta, alpha
Wonderful math teacher!! She over simplifies things and is willing to help. Attendance is mandatory, but she also adds bonus points to every class one attends. Take her if you need College Algebra!!
Sweetest teacher ever!! Ms. Blackwelder's class is one of the best I've taken. She explains the material in such a way that it's almost impossible to not understand it. I never had any kind of trouble in that class
takes attendance but gives bonus lectures for missed attendance and bonus quizzes to pick up ur quiz average!
She's very helpful. DON'T BUY THE TEXTBOOK, YOU'LL NEVER USE IT!
Best Math Teacher I ever had. Enough Said
Best Math Teacher I ever Had. That should be enough said, Gives out plenty of extra credit and bonuses which encourages you to do HW.
One of the best prof. i've taken. She breaks down the material really well, so if you're horrible at math you will still do great in the class. You don't need the textbook, just her notes.
She was awesome
If you go to class, you will do well on the tests. If you don't, you wont. I didnt go to class and i got a tutor. the tutor teaches by using shortcuts, which helped alot. But if you want o learn, go to class EVERYDAY!!!!!!
She was a really awesome math teacher. I am terrible at math and i got an A. You must go to class everyday and take perfect notes. She goes step by step and the only way you can fail is by not going. Do all the practice quizes/Tests until you know them perfectly and you will get an A.
She was an amazing teacher and explained everything clearly and was willing to come to class early for extra help. Only a few tests so messing up one can hurt you, but she lets you retake the first two and averages them. The TA's were awesome too. TAKE MS. BLACKWELDER!!! I loved her.
SHE iS A GOOD TEACHER, JUST MAKE SURE TO COME TO CLASS EVERY DAY. i DiDN'T HAVE TO BUY A TEXT BOOK BECAUSE NO HOMEWORK WAS ASSiGNED iN iT, BUT iF YOU AREN'T GOOD iN MATH i RECOMMEND YOU PURCHASE THE TEXTBOOK FOR EXTRA PROBLEMS AND HELP. =)
She is a great teacher. will explain anything you have a problem with. drops lowest quiz grade, lets you retake tests one extra time. will really try to get you to understand and get the best grade.
So easy! A million bonus quizes, She lets you retake tests and online quizes. It's kind of ridiculous to not pass! DO NOT BUY THE BOOK, YOU DONT NEED IT!
Amazing teacher. Explains everything well. Tons of bonus points and bonus quizzes. I would definitely suggest taking her class if you have to take college algebra. To not get an A is crazy. Oh, and DO NOT BUY THE BOOK! You will never use it.
Such an awesome teacher! She is so sweet and helpful, she explains things well and gives many opportunities to pass the class! Always a bonus quiz or bonus points for attendance, i would definitely recommend her to anyone!
Blackwelder was a really nice and sweet person, but as a math teacher wasnt so great. She moves very fast. The notes and examples in class were easy to follow but when the test came around it was much much harder :(
Ms. Blackwelder is an absolutely amazing math teacher! She is extremely helpful and there is plenty of extra credit. I recommend her highly!!!
Amazing teacher! She really knows what she's talking about and cares a lot about her students doing well for future classes. Very nice lady. I would love to have her as a teacher again. She gives out daily bonus points for attending class and in doing bonus quizzes. Get her if you can!
Amazing teacher. Easiest A in college so far. You don't need the book. She teaches slowly and carefully, and gives out a bunch of bonus points. TAKE HER!
Blackwelder was awesome.I've taken two math classes with her and managed B's in each. I am personally a horrible math student and she really spells things out for you. Attend class and pay attention and you really shouldn't have too much trouble.
Ms. Blackwelder is amazing! She is nicest lady, and very patient. She puts out great notes, and gives bonus quizes. The Bonus quizes allowed me to pass with a C. I definitely reccomend her.
Terrible. Just like every other College Algebra instrcutor. I would throw a parade for the day she leaves. Doesn't care about her students and teaches horribly.
I have failed College Algebra 3 times until this semster, and it was only because the class was so easy I decided to not even go. This is one of the easiest classes you can get, you just have to take the notes, do the h/w, study, and do good on the quizzes and tests. Easy A, if you actually put in the time that is required, which isnt much.
She was an amazing teacher. She's brighter than she looks though, so don't get caught sleeping in class. I loved this class. I understood what she taught almost every class. She always offers to help outside of class too if you don't get it right off. I got an easy A. You can do the homework over and over again until you get it right. Take her clas
Great professor, she posts detailed videos of step by step how to do problems. Math is not my strong point at all but i got a B+ and could have easily gotten an A if i tried a little harder. Try to get her as a teacher, you don't need the book AT ALL and you will understand the material.
Great class!! She is really nice and helpful, very clear at explaining material. DO NOT BUY BOOK! She provides great examples and online videos, and problems to help you prepare for every quiz and exam. I strongly recommend!
Easy to understand!
Blackwelder is the sweetest lady in the world and she is good at what she does. She teaches you everything you need to know and her explanations are very thorough. You cant go wrong with her.
She's the best...Extremely helpful and makes the subject matter seem easy....Take her 4sho
Best math teacher I've ever had!! Her lectures and examples are great and both help with the online quizzes a lot. She really cares about the students and gives extra credit for being in class! Don't buy the book, you definitely don't use it!
HAVE TO TAKE IT. RATHER NOT.
She is an excellent teacher who knows the material and even though the class was large, she was willing to answer everyone's questions. I enjoyed her class although math isn't really my favorite subject.
She manages to take a large class and and give it a personal feel. Ms Blackwelder is hands down the best at what she does.
SHE IS THE MOST GOD AWFUL TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD. SHE TALKS TO YOU LIKE YOU ARE MENTALLY CHALLENGED.
I took some other lady last semester and I failed after two weeks. Best math teach I've probably ever had. Video help, online help, everything. Highly recommend taking her. Class is kinda boring but still helpful.
Best Math teacher I've ever had. DO NOT GET EVERAGE GET BLACKWELDER!!!!!
she is a godd teacher but she underestimates how simple her examples in class are compard to e grade, she has onl;ine video clips and lots of office hrs, and the final is 50 percent or 30 percent of ur grade which ever one gives u the best over all grade and u have three units of material but the hardest stuff is logs and log functions- know them
Good teacher, but kind of rude. Doesn't really have good 'people' skills. I am not trying to be rude, but she isn't too warm/nice. But she is GREAT at teaching math! I would absolutely take her if you need the class. I have heard poor things about the other teachers for mac1105. I got an A-. I had a solid A, but the final is SOOO hard!
I began taking Everage Fall 08 and had to withdraw from the class so I wouldn't fail. I enrolled in Blackwelder's class Spr 09 and she cleared up every inconsistency. Attendance is mandatory and egrade is imperative but if you pay attention then you will be good. Just by showing up and paying attention you completed 60% of the course. Great Teacher
This teacher is literally amazing. If you hate math you will do fine in this class, just go in with a can do attitude and her helpfulness will cover the rest. Dont get caught sleeping in class or reading magazines she gets pissed. Offers study guides to every single test with the same types of questions, you can get an A with no effort.
Bottom line: shes extremely clear, with great examples, theres no reason to not understand what shes teaching. Chose her over Lenoir for sure. Lenoir isnt nearly as clear and she talked to fast, a totally stressful class when she substituted once.
Her examples are so clear that you dont ned the book. Great teacher! Loved the class but attendance does matter.
Great teacher!! I would definitly suggest her as a math teacher
Ms. Blackwelder is amazing! One of the best math teachers I have had. There is no need to do poorly in her class because she teaches extremely well and provides her students with EVERYTHING they need to succeed. Attendence is mandatory, so make sure to go to class. Definitely pick Blackwelder over LeNoir! She is hilarious too. :)
She's really good at what she does, so make sure you come to class... if you dont use the videos but lectures are better. she's really corny but dont matter i have an A
Great professor! Somehow she has the ability to make everything you learned about math in high school 10x simpler. Clear examples and her passion for teaching make this class very simple and cleared up lots of math problems I could never do. She takes attendance with clickers and gets very offended if ppl leave right after having been counted in.
She is very easy to understand. Some people think she is strict in class with talking and all. Gives homework and lab quizzes but is nice and everything.
She gives an example of every kind of problem and even tutors after class.
Very easy to understand and allows a few absences.
She is an easy teacher and explains almost everything pretty well. she takes attendance with flashcards that u turn in at the end of class. you dont need the txtbook at all so dont waste your money. she gives lecture outlines and follows through them with the students.
TAKE HER FOR COLLEGE ALGEBRA. Best math teacher, and easiest math class I have ever taken. She is very passionate about her teaching and is very patient. She will explain things over again if needed, and explains things in a way that is easy to understand. She gives outlines that are very helpful, and no book. Waste of time if you take anyone else.
She was SUCH a great teacher...best math teacher I've ever had. I usually struggle in math but this semester it was my easiest class just by the thorough way she teaches every type of problem and all of the examples she gives and works through with us. The study packets are so helpful, they kept me organized when taking notes and made it even easie
EXCELLENT PROFESSOR! I despise math, and I got an A in her class! She helps any way that she possibly can. She even puts video clips online, which helps tremendously for studying. All my friends were jealous that I had her as my math professor. TAKE TAKE TAKE!
Best math teacher I've ever had. I'm an english guy, and hate the foul beast known as mathematics with all my being, but she was extremely clear and helpful. She gives help if you need it and posts video tutorials of every section in case you miss class or forgot. She also uses a follow along guide in class that makes studying a breeze. TAKE HER
Amazing teacher. I am not a huge fan of math, but am still doing well in her class. Her lectures are crystal clear. The onl way you could not do well in this class is if you didn't go, and even then it's all posted online. She's the best math teacher I've ever had.
I am not a math person, so I appreciated the fact that she gave you every opportunity to do well. You have multiple chances for every single quiz and test, and help is always available, so if you don't do well it is by choice. She allows a fair amount of absences but will award extra credit if you don't miss more than four days. Great class, overal
She's sooo SWEET and POLITE, that even though it's 8 o clock in the morning, i can't get mad. she's very respectful and will answer any question you have no matter how stupid. the ONLY negative thing about her is the she teaches a little too slow. It's probably so that everybody else can keep up but i find myself trying to hurry her up.
Great teacher! I'm not the best at math and I got a B+. She was very clear and understandable. She has online videos that help some if you miss class. If you keep up with the online hw quizzes and practice then there's not reason why you shouldn't get an A or B.
Probably the best math teacher I ahve ever had. She is very clear and concise when she is giving a lecture and prepares outlines that are easy to reference back to when you need to study. She gives more than ample opportunity to do well in her class, including bonuses for simply attending the course, which is mandatory anyway. I recommend highly!
She made algebra seem easy. Attendance is mandatory but it winds up pulling your grade up if you go. She goes super slow which is good for those of us who aren't amazing at math. You'll get one or two homework assignments a week.
She has note outlines online u can print out, she has videos on her web page explaining each section of the notes! She goes over the quiz material before the quiz, and gives online quiz and practice . online. She takes 2 class days to review for a test. EASY EASY EASY
One of the best teachers I've had thus far. Very approachable and helpful. Her lesson format is incredibly easy to understand. I would definitely recommend Blackwelder! Awesome teacher!
Love her! I'm horrible at math but thanks to her teaching styles I was able to get an A in math my first semester! Definitely recommend her! Also she sounds like Stewie from Family Guy when he tries to say "Cool Whip" it's quite hysterical.
she's a very good teacher! she posts videos of the problems online, but going to class is important because she works out problems and explains it a little better than the videos. we have weekly quizzes and 3 tests. we don't use a book, just online worksheets. she has very specific rules in doing things, but other than that she's great!
I've ALWAYS hated math so I was not excited for college algebra. But Ms. Blackwelder is the BEST MATH TEACHER I've ever had! Not to say that all of the material was easy, but she taught it in such a way that made it easier to understand. If you want to pass, you should go to every class even though she does not take attendance b/c it helps a lot!
One of the best math teachers you will ever have. Online video clips and very detailed lectures. Her bonus quizzes will boost you up a whole latter grade if you keep up with them. She is extremely nice and likes to make her lectures fun i.e Smiley faces on Y-intercepts etc. I hated, and still hate math but got a solid A. Highly recommend :)
She cares about how her students are doing but I don't think her teaching is great. We don't have a book; things are very difficult to understand. She only goes over 1 problem for each section and it's never very clear. We also use Webassign which is not the best grader when it comes to tests/quizzes. If classes weren't 200+ ppl it would be easier
I have always had an A in math this is my 1st B like ever. But the class structure was very easy I personally did not go to class. But i was able to get it together. She is very helpful. If your bad in math ask for help SHE WILL HELP you dont drop the class just because you failed the 1st test. the homework and final helps and if u ask for HELP
She came off that she cared about her students but when I actually went in for help she was so rude and annoyed with me. I also didn't like the website we used, Webassign, the little mistakes on the keyboard could jeopardize your score and bring down your overall quiz grade.
Loved this teacher. Very easy to get an A. She is extremely well organized and makes it easy to follow her notes when doing homework assignments. The class requires upkeep, with quizzes every week and homework assignments due every week too, but it helps you to stay focused that way. TAKE HER!
If you are a freshman who is looking to slack off an earn an A, you should rethink college. If you are a little scared of math like I was, and you are willing to put the time in for an A, then this is the class for you. She uses her own outline which is so helpful because she tells you what is on the test - from her notes! She helps those who try!
Blackwelder is a rather quirky person, but an overall excellent teacher. She gets made fun of by some rude students, which is horrible, but she really is a very sweet lady who invests a lot of time and energy to make sure you understand everything. It's a great class if you make an effort. I hate math but it was easy and I actually LEARNED a lot.
This is the best math teacher I've ever had, seriously. She's kind of funny and weird, but spends hours and hours explaining everything even if just one person doesn't understand. That, and she also types up outlines and all you have to do is print them and come to class and fill them out. Quizzes and tests are easier than the homework.
I thought she was really funny! Ask questions if you are confused. She will also assist during her office hours :)
She is very clear and enthusiastic. Go to her class and pay attention and u'll be fine.Do your hw and be careful with webassign if is not the way the sites wants it your answer will be wrong even if it is the right one.
I loved Blackwelder! She posts her entire lecture outline on Blackboard and as long as you fill that out and do the homework, you're good to go. All the homework and quizzes are online. Also, if you miss a lecture, she has videos on Blackboard thoroughly explaining the topic! She's great I definitely recommend her!
Martha is the best! if youre going to take college algebra you need to take her. Going to class is the smart way to go since she works right from the outline. Easy to understand and so adorable. I hate math and pulled off a B. Highly recommend!
I was nervous about taking College Algebra, but Ms. Blaackwelder is amazing! She is very helpful, but you do need to do your work, which is not bad. Definitely helped me to understand this Algebra much better than I did in high school.
Great teacher! Very clear and articulate. Definitely recommend.
Literally the WORST teacher I have ever had. Terrible at explaining things and not helpful at all. So rude in person. Teaches as if everyone has already learned the material and we're just taking the class for review. Speeds through topics at an overwhelming rate. I had to teach myself everything in order to pass.
She is so easy. She makes her own outline and then for tests and quizzes changes a few numbers. Sure she gets upset if you don't show up or play on your phone but who wouldn't? It's called respect. I'm not great at math but she dumbs it down and will explain if you ask. Just attend class and you will get an A. Not a tough class at all and she rocks
She is a great professor for college algebra. Even though attending class isn't mandatory, you will most likely receive an A if you go to class and pay attention. I definitely recommend this professor to anyone who takes MAC 1105.
Ms. Blackwelder is a fantastic math teacher. She is very talented at teaching the material, and she puts a TON of effort into helping students pass. So why do so many students fail this class? The College Algebra class covers an extensive amount of material. If you skip class, Ms. Blackwelder can't teach you the material and you will fall behind.
great teacher. posts all lectures online. gives ton of bonus quizzes and extra credit opportunities. just make sure to go to class, remember iclicker, and practice the problems regularly. will save yourself a lot of headache. i got a c- but if i had practiced i could have easily gotten a B
She's really funny and as long as you pay attention...you're fine. "Who would agree to that today?"
Loved this professor. Her outlines are super clear and easy to follow. Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you go to every lecture she is sure to go over everything a few times. She's super funny and has a great personality but means it when she says no phones and leave only when class is dismissed (aka respect) Great teacher for a mandatory class
The best math teacher I've ever had! I took it as a summer class and even within 6 weeks, she went over every topic so thoroughly. Her outlines are so clear and her quizzes and tests are very straightforward. Take her if given the opportunity!!!!
Definitely the best math professor I have had. I took her for the summer C term and got 90+ in all three tests. Towards the end it really picks up but I'm sure if you take her in the regular semester it is more manageable. Go to her office hours! She is extremely helpful. Def take her if you can! No textbook, she has her own outline :)
Obsessed with Blackwelder. She is the sweetest woman in the world. She gives an amazing outline of the entire course and explains everything so well. Though I don't always go to class, I still managed to get 90+ on every quiz and test. If you don't go to class then just get the notes from someone and you'll be fine. Easy A if you know math!
I took this class for summer C and she was just awful. She sped through the entire material and would not stop to answer questions. You have to bring the outline to class in order to keep up with her lectures. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you miss class, you have to find someone with the notes or else you're lost.
Her lectures are super easy to follow. She post her outlines of notes online that are super helpful to print out and fill in in class. She gives out lots of quizzes but with 3 chances. If you do the quizzes and her practice problems you will pass with flying colors.
Very easy A. She provides outline for all notes that are very helpful. She posts videos on how to do the problems in each section online, in case you need extra help. She's a little weird and gets VERY annoyed by people coming in and out of class room and phoneslaptops being out. Lots of extra credit for in-class participation.
BEST MATH PROFESSOR I'VE EVER HAD. All her lectures are very clear and easy to understand. She cares about her students understanding the material. She provides an outline that you follow in class, no textbook. Very sweet, very patient and understanding! Attendance is not required but you should definitely go!
Best professor you can pick for MAC1105. Her lectures are very thorough and the outline provided at the beginning of the semester for you to print out will be your saving grace. Really easy to pass, had a 95 test average, 93 quiz average, 92 on the final, and over 300 in extra credit points. Practice assignments will only benefit you! Def take!
Very good professor, highly recommend! She offers test retakes and lots of extra credit is possible. Not hard if you put in the work.
She puts how to videos up on her website which are the only thing I used for this class. I only went to the first couple classes before I decided it was absolutely unnessecary as long as I put in the practice work on eGrade. Doing lots of practices not only helps you get better grades, its gives EC. If you're willing to put a little work, easy A.
If you go to class you should get an A. She explains everything very well as long as you pay attention and print out her lectures. The weekly homework assignments can get annoying but in the end they save you from studying a lot the night before the quiz. Overall very knowledgable and helpful teacher if you do your part.
Probably the easiest class I will ever take at FSU. Her lectures are very clear and to the point and she goes over everything at least twice. Going to class will help you tremendously although if you happen to miss a class she has videos online explaining how to do problems. The only difficult thing about the class is she moves at a very fast pace.
I find math very challenging, the way Ms. Blackwelder teaches it made it much easier. The outline she provides is super helpful; fill that out every class! Definitley get an iclicker to participate with and do lots of practice to get extra points towards your quiz average. Make sure to not have your phone out or leave class early!
definitely a class that if you give a little bit of effort, you should be fine. she provides an outline that is super helpful for class and she goes through each objective multiple times. if you miss class, she has videos online that shows her working out problems, but if you do go to class she gives a ton of extra credit.
DO THE HOMEWORK! The class is relatively easy if you keep up with the work. Alot of people fail because they don't do the homework and quizzes. For every missed assignment after 3 missed homeworks or quizzes for she takes a percentage point off your final grade. She also rewards you for doing practice problems so definitely practice!
Okay so math sucks, but she makes it as endurable as she can. She lectures and does examples based off of packets she posts online so that makes class a lot easier. She's pretty nice but can yell when people talk too much during her lectures or are on their phones. Make sure you go to class or you'll take it twice like I did.
NOT understanding in the slightest bit. Very rude and disrespectful to students. To her you are not a student you are just a number.
I had trouble the first 3 weeks of class, but after I got used to her grading criteria and what her test problems were like it was basically an easy A. I got super confused if I missed one class so I tried not to miss, but if you go to class and actually work through the problems with her it is really helpful! Also, she gives lots of extra credit!
if you go to class , take notes and practice you will get an A
If you go to class, she explains the problems reasonably well. What saved me, though, are these videos that she posts of herself doing EVERY SINGLE PROBLEM. Do those along with the practice problems and it's an easy A. Do expect to put in work for that A though and there IS homework. She's extremely nice and will answer any questions you have.
Easy class if you go to class or at least watch the videos
She's a great teacher, goes through every type of problem possible. I personally have never been to any of her help sessions, but she does mention them. You can get away with skipping a few lectures here and there, but a lot of material is covered in each lecture so be prepared to catch up.
Easy class.
I struggle with math and was nervous for college algebra but she made it extremely clear and easy for me, she gives many chances to retake tests and improve your grade. As long as you do a lot of egrade practice outside of class and pat attention in the lectures you should pass with no problem.
Expect an easy A. Blackwelder makes it look like elementary math. She is incredibly repetitive and constantly encouraging you to PRACTICE (you'll see what I mean) in the best way. Her class is super super easy, and she is thorough. ATTEND CLASS. not mandatory, but you are doing yourself a disservice. Blackwelder rules.
Ms. Blackwelder is a pretty good teacher and covers a lot of material in the class. However, she has a ridiculous amount of homework quizzes and sometimes can have an attitude when having a one-on-one conversation about a problem or math issue. Get the notes from Target Copy. Helped me throughout the semester instead of printing the notes weekly.
She tries to give as many opportunities as she can. She has supplemental videos, help sessions, and her office hours. There is a homework quiz every week. Important to practice and keep up with everything because the final is comprehensive.
I ended this course with a C- because I didn't go to any classes. Very clear on the subject so if you attend the lectures and make sure to do all the required homework quizzes it should be an easy pass.
Great
And you're on your way today is the best part of lecture
Great professor, easy to understand, and always there to help. Videos are posted to help learn, therefore you really don't need to go to class (BUT YOU SHOULD!)
She's awesome!
Professor Blackwelder is everything I could ever ask for in a math teacher. She is helpful, kind and easy to follow. I am NOT a math person and I was terrified to take this class but she is a great teacher. There are quizzes every week, occasional E.C. opportunities, and only 3 tests. She offers several opportunities for help outside of class.
College Algebra can be as easy or as hard as you make it. A ton of help is available, but she is hands down the best teacher available.
Tests and Quizzes get difficult, but she tries her best to help you and posts videos on blackboard if you miss a class or two and is very good at explaining the subject. Attendance is mandatory but it's for your own good.
Very easy if you're good at math, and don't even have to go to lectures because she puts up videos of the objectives online. However, if you're only okay at math, or not too good, I would go to every class because it really helps. She gives out a lot of extra credit too. Best college algebra teacher at FSU!
She was really funny and quite clear on her expectations. This class is not difficult if you practice and go to class. There is a lot of room for extra credit based on the amount of practice you do, and the practice not only gives gets you extra credit, but helps you understand the material.
She is a very caring teacher, if you are not good at math ... go to class , don't miss class at all she took attendance this semester, as well take all attempts of homework quizzes and test and retest. She loves students who do a lot of practice. She will work with you if she sees that you put a lot of effort into her class. Definitely an easy "B"
Blackwelder is an interesting character... She was very rude to our class, and would constantly stop her lecture if she even heard just one person whispering (in a class of 100+ this is a little ridiculous). However, lots of help is available, and I would strongly recommend going to every class.
Professor Blackwelder is such a sweetheart. This was my second attempt at MAC1105 and having her as a professor truly allowed me to learn more and practice my math skills. I really never stressed this class and passed but do take all your quiz and test attempts and whether you know the material or not, bust your behind studying for the final.
Even if you aren't a math person Martha has got you. I am not at all a math person at all and I still got an A. Practice is key in this class.
Fantastic professor, I'm not fantastic at math but she makes it very easy to understand and I actually enjoyed class and got an A. There is homework assigned but it is actually helpful homework and not a lot of it. You do need to study but not much. Loved the class and professor.
We were given packets that had all of our notes. She also posted videos on how to do every topic we covered. Used TopHat app to take attendance and receive extra credit. I found her to be helpful and the class really easy.
I took this class over summer and received a C+ (lol) so honestly i would take it during fall or spring. besides that huge time crunch and the rushing that summer entails, she is awesome and makes most concepts easy(ish) to understand, or at least learnable through studying. She does office hours, too. Kinda cool as in i wish she was my grandma.
She is a good teacher but the course itself is a bit intense. Weekly quizzes and two homework quizzes a week. If you don't attend class you will definitely not pass. She goes through problems EXTREMELY fast. She's also a bit condescending whenever answering a question asked in class.
Martha does a good job teaching the material. If you don't go to class you will not understand the material. She is helpful if you go to her. Otherwise you are pretty much on your own.
Wonderful teacher! Very lecture heavy, but if you can put your phone away and just pay attention for an hour you'll pass with flying colors.
She is such a sweet lady. I have always struggled with math, but her lectures are clear and easy to follow. You need to pay attention and do the homework and practice quizzes, but there are so many resources to make sure you do well. And Ms. Blackwelder is awesome.
You are given 3 quizzes a week in class (2 online, one in lab). 3 tests and final are heavily weighted while all 34 quizzes are only ten percent of your grade. Extra credit added only to quiz average and doesn't help a ton. Takes up a ton of free time and no matter how good you are at math, is still a ton of work. Work hard, but be careful.
Really appreciated the Target Copy to take notes in, I never would have been able to keep up without it. I wasn't even able to use the extra credit towards my quiz average because I already had a %100 yet still ended up with a B+. The 3 tests and the final basically determine your grade. Had to work very hard for my B+ but I'm also not into math!
Amazing professor. As long as you go to class and fill in the notes and study them, you should do well in the class. Very easy to understand and follow. I would take her again if I could.
Super easy to understand and simplifies everything. Only negative is that she has a thick country accent and can get pretty boring really quick. Other than that she makes college algebra easy.
Great professor. She really makes college algebra easy. I am horrible at math and I got an A in this class. She's very clear in lectures and is open to questions. She's super sweet and tries to be funny. There are weekly quizzes which may seem like a lot but they help and she prepares you well for them.
I'm probably a little biased because math is not my thing. She's a good professor who clearly cares about her students, but I think she overcomplicates things. To be honest most of the time I zone out in class and just teach myself the concepts at home using her videos on blackboard. Nice lady, bad course.
Attendance is basically mandatory to understand everything. However, I really liked her teaching style! she made it easy to understand the new concepts and I would for sure take this class again.
Took College Algebra with her Summer C last year. She did a great job of teaching the course, just show up to class and fill in the notes. Then, keep doing the practice quizzes and homework over and over again. My final grade missed the A- curve by less of a point but when I went to her office hours she curved it up!
Martha can best be described as decent overall. She has good and instructive lectures which are accessible outside of class. All exams are done online. She is a horrible communicator; never responded to a single one of my emails and whenever I would discuss a grade with her privately in person she was always very rude and ended the meeting ASAP.
You have quizzes every week but all together that average is worth only 10% of the grade. Attendance is not mandatory but if you go to class and manage to pay attention you will get an easy A. I missed most classes and came to the weekly quizzes missed an exam and still got a low B.
Martha is cool and really knows her stuff but does tend to go fast during lectures. Three quizzes a week, two at home and one lab. Three unit tests and a cumulative final. Lot of work and studying and if you aren't a strong math student you must go to class to pass. No extra credit so what you get is what you get. Be prepared for a lot of work.
The class is boring, but it is obvious that she wants her students to pass and will help you however she can.
This is a hard class but Blackwelder does such a good job explaining everything. You have 3 quizzes a week, some homework and some lab, if you do the practice that she gives you on egrade then you will pass the quizzes as well as the tests. You just need to practice as much as possible and follow her steps. Blackwelder is the best!
Mrs. Blackwelder really cares about her students passing. She does everything she can so that each student can pass the class. The class itself is really hard, especially for those bad at math, but Martha really helps explain everything in detail and helps you really learn the material.
the worst teacher ever. she assigns way to much homework I HATE HER
All the work she gives you is to make you better. And it's a quiz every other day that is online, it truly is not that difficult.
Super easy if you put in the effort and go to class. Show her you care by going to extra help sessions she has and she will work with you!
SHE'S GREAT
She's great, just make sure you go to class and pay attention and you will get great grades. Show you care, and she will do the best for you.
All you have to do to do well is show up and pay attention. She makes it clear about the grading expectations and she also offers help sessions.
She is a great teacher who thoroughly explains each objective step-by-step. There are 2 weekly homework quizzes, 1 weekly lab quiz, 3 exams, and the final. The amount of effort you put into this class is how much you will get back. You cant expect to get an A if youre confused yet dont take advantage of the practice site and her help hours.
She's very straightforward, knows what she's talking about, and doing practice problems outside of class and coming to class are really extra credit at the end of the day. She has that little old lady vibe and it makes for funny moments throughout the semester. Highly recommend if you can get her class!
Professor Blackwelder does a really good job at teaching math. She is clear in explanations which makes this class simple. She offers plenty of help for struggling students and was very kind.
She's a great professor and is very clear about her expectations for the class. Homework and weekly quizzes prepare you for the tests. Attendance is required. This is not a class you want to skip because she does move pretty fast. Textbook not required you just print out packets and work on them in class.
I adore Blackwelder. She has been teaching this class for almost 30 years, so she knows her stuff. She will tell you exactly what is going to be on the quiz and the easiest way to solve it. She pads your quiz average by adding in attendance points as well as any practice points you encounter. The only thing is, she does not use Canvas to post grade
Cares about helping her students learn the material. 2 online homework quizzes week with 3 attempts each. 1 in class lab quiz a week. Would recommend!
If youre going to take MAC1105, definitely recommend Blackwelder. She gave so many opportunities for additional resources and help if you truly did not understand the material. I took MAC1105 the second time with Blackwelder and there was a significant difference in teaching methods than the first time. She is able to break down topics clearly
I failed MAC 1105 the first time because the professor failed to teach me... But the second time with her, it was different. She really cares about the student and helping them with the material. She's funny, real, and she don't play. Show up to learn. Or fail.
This professor does not do a good job at explaining very difficult concepts and expects her students to keep up. Our quizzes rarely reflect what we have learned in class. She moves at an unbearably fast rate with a weekly lab quiz and several homework quizzes a week (also affecting your grade). I would recommend all students find a different prof.
I took her during my first semester at FSU during the summer. I was really worried because I am not strong in math and never received good grades in high school. Ms Blackwelder changed my entire perspective - she set the foundation for the rest of my 4 years and to this day I really enjoy learning about math and I am receiving A's! Take her.
If you have the option to take another professor do it. Blackwelder is not understanding and moves at a faster pace than other professors. Her lectures are very stressful as she calls out students and yells throughout the class. She made me not want to go to class.
People don't like her because they don't know how to study. You take 3 quizzes a week which at times can be annoying, but she has ample office hour times and goes through the material thoroughly in lecture. If you show up to class and do the practice problems you'll be fine.
Everyday attendance. Can not leave early or will be called out in class. Quizzes every week. You need to study because she moves very quickly and doesn't really teach just does examples quickly. Try to avoid talking to her, she's very moody and always rude. Pay attention in class and buy the target book she suggests it helps
The actual material is boring, but the professor really helps you learn it. If you don't go to class, the material can be hard to learn. There are so many homework quizzes but they are helpful for studying
Very sweet lady. Do not be afraid to ask questions and seek help if needed. She is willing to help in any way possible. She is very understanding and as long as you pay attention in class you should do well. Homework and Quizzes are take home, online. Except for lab quizzes once a week.
She is a super good professor. She explains things incredibly well and is by far the best professor for MAC1105. The practice and review online are really helpful and she's always available for review sessions.
shes a sweet old southern lady. She moves fast through examples but does so many that you remember how to do them. Attendance is online so if you can't make it to class, have a friend send you the code. If you work the extra practice problems online, it will help you for the final and you get extra credit. do the practice tests before weekly quiz!
She is a sweet, aged lady. She does have her moments where she'll raise her voice when there's too much noise for her to concentrate. She's willing to answer any questions you have inside and outside of class. A few random attendance checks with learning catalytics. Lots of practice problems and quizzes. If you know how to solve for x, you'll live.
If you study and pay attention in class you will be fine . Martha is an old aged lady who really knows this subject very well . She is very good at teaching and explaining . All assignments and tests are on my math lab so you have access to tabs like "help me solve this" etc when practicing problems. If you put in the word you will get an A.
Professor Blackwelder has been at FSU for years, which means she knows the best way to teach students. She is incredibly nice and silly, however if you do not study, you will not pass. You use MyMathLab and you can get extra points on your quizzes for just doing practices. Make sure you study the study guides because they are similar to the tests.
She'll help you during her weekly tutoring sessions outside of class if you feel that lecture wasn't enough or too fast. I know I needed this. Just apply yourself. Attend class with your outline, do the homework, practices, and ask questions till it makes sense. She's nice and cracks the occasional joke, which is needed in a math class.
moves over everything so quick you dont understand how she got where.
She is a great teacher and I highly recommend her. You really need to go to class and make sure to do the homework. Other than that its pretty easy to get an A.
I found the lectures to be absolutely useless sue to the fact the professor moves through the content so quickly. However she holds a review session before the test which is helpful. She also is easily accessible after class and is relatively caring for a large lecture professor. MUST COMPLETE THE WEEKLY QUIZZES!!!!!
I thought this class was do-able but you definitely have to put the effort in. Professor kinda has an attitude a lot but I think that's just here personality, she wants you to succeed but goes through material super fast. Tests were not too bad, just a lot of memorizing formaulas and steps.
Very knowledgeable about subject, but tends to move through lectures very quickly. Homework quizzes twice a week, plus a lab quiz once a week. 4 major tests; usually once a month. She can be sassy, but I think it actually keeps students paying attention so they don't get called out lol Gives lots of opportunities to ask questions, holds reviews.
Blackwelder is a great teacher, she knows exactly what she is teaching and teaches problems that will be on quizzes and tests. Attendance is mandatory but there will be lots of extra credit opportunities. If you want an A you can easily get one. I did the bare minimum and passed with a C+. I could have gotten an A if I really wanted to though.
As someone who has never been very strong in math, this class was a very big stress factor in my life. She moves through her lectures so quickly that I ended up having to do my best to teach it to myself at home. The TAs are much more useful for extra help than she is. Also, you do not get to know your overall grade until the end of the semester.
Buy her lecture outlines and don't buy the textbook (I didn't use it at all). She moves through sections at a fast pace, but if you get the notes, you should be able to teach yourself through mymathlab assignments. She is also available for extra help. She can be sassy, and her lectures can be boring, but the grade you get really depends on effort.
So many quizzes, Hardest tests. Okay, Im not good at math. Never have been. If math is not your strong suit, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. hardest class Ive ever taken, tried everything I could to pass and still failed miserably. Quizzes once a week, so much homework that barely counts for anything, not to mention she teaches like its a nascar race.
shes a really good professor. she cares about her students and tries to help as much as possible. there's a lot of homework but that's because its a math class. she does reviews before every test including the midterm and final. there are enough tests, quizzes, and homework to balance your grade and she gives extra credit.
Blackwelder isn't the best math professor but she's definitely not the worst. She makes a lot of mistakes while teaching, due to the fact that she copies someone else's notes during lectures. She'll say sorry about 10x and come up with an excuse as to why she messed up. She's really funny but it definitely gets frustrating. Easy class though!
Imagine taking a class with your sweetest grandma. Blackwelder is great at what she does and if you go to class you should be able to pass. This is math you should've known before college which she just reminds you about. Study a bit before tests and this is an easy A class.
There were 12 quizzes and 3 tests. You will have to watch the videos and practice, but the quizzes/tests are exactly like the examples provided. She extended deadlines that many students were worried about. I never had to contact her, but she has office hours.
Prof Blackwelder was rude and obviously didn't have any respect for the students. For a low level class, the work expected was completely unnecessary and far too time consuming. I'm not afraid of hard work if it's warranted, but it was NOT for this class. Take Radha Bose's statistics class for your math credit instead. It's easy, fair, and useful.
I wouldn't recommend taking this professor. She didn't have respect for students and often treated us rudely. The material itself wasn't too difficult, but you did have to put in effort as there are lots of assignments and exams.
