has a dirty mouth, expect lots of cussing and sarcasm.
yes dirty mouth but, is very helpful if she feels that you have potential. do all your work.
Dirty mouth... and makes you feel stupid.. DOn't take her!!!!!!!!!
She’s horrible! Don’t take her once a week class or you’ll end up with back problems like me because she never gave a break for the 3hr time period I was in her class. Her class is hard and on her tests you have to answer word for word what she had told y
She is very hard since the first day of class. I took her for Eng 100 and found out that it was some historical Eng class. She maid it hard for us because she actually made us go out and interview old veterans. I mean c'mon it's Eng not a reporter class.
This lady has no respect for her students. She is a poor excuse for an english teacher. Yess... her mouth is as filthy as a toilet bowl. She expects you to literally follow her instructions... if you don't agree with her, she will embarass you.
good class. She makes you think. Take this class, specially if you are shy or asian, like most students in class I learned to be confident.
Anyone taking her class be prepared to work very very hard. She expects students to be on top of their work. Scary teacher and sometimes has a bad mouth as others have stated.
hated her 'nuff said!
she is so~~~`mean
The material I had to read & write about was hard (Marxism, Zizek, Freud, & other philosophical thinkers). But, Bonilla is very helpful, & understands that the material is hard to comprehend, which is understandable: it's Eng. 1C, critical thinking!
She is the worst english teacher ever. She is also ****. If you are Hispanic, you'll get a good grade.
I DIDN'T TAKE HER CLASS COZ I WENT TO TUTORING CENTER AND THEN SHE GAVE ME A VERY VERY terrible IMPRESSION ! she doesn't respect her student at all. **** her sucker! she is sucks.........
she is always respectful to students & never had a dirty mouth. the work is HARD, but she helps a lot & she gives good feedback on essays. some1 complained bout her once-a-week class. my advice: NEVER take ANY class that only meets once a week.
Best English teacher I have every had. She is truly invested in her students. The work is hard, but if you put forth the effort you will perform well in her class. I took her for 1A and 1B and have recommended her to countless students. She's the BEST
Completely biased, unobjective presentation of philosophical material in an ENGLISH class

She is probably the hardest english teacher out there. If you are going to take her, be prepared to work hard!!! If you want to pass this class with an A or B...good luck! Just remember that nothing is perfect for her!
HARDCORE teaching, but it's rewarding if you could manage. Expect 2/3 of your classmate be gone before final.
easy A.
shes a mean, mean lady..she has an attitude problem as well. Very hard class; i dropped it to take a diffrent teaher and hes teaching the same class but hes not looney, so you cant say its hard cuz its critical thinking..its hard b/c of her!
This woman is horrible. You might want to kill yourself on the second day... Basically she is biased - religious, and can not seem to articulate whatsoever. Her presumptious attitude creates a very very uncomfortable learning environment for everyone.
very very hard teacher!yells at you if you ask too many questions. be sure to keep you mouth shut.
Somewhat strict. Complicated teaching and lecturing style.
I strongly urge you not to take Bonilla. English 1C should be difficult enough without taking the class with her. I promise, she will only add to your problems. She's exremely unorganized, loses assignments, does not keep office hours or return emails, yet she expects perfection from her students.
This is a hard class, but if you're in college, you should be ready for this level of commitment and hard work. She doesn't feed you the answers and forces you to read and think and analyze. Students that find her too hard must be just plain lazy. I liked this class a lot and enjoyed the readings.
THIS TEACHER IS HARD!!! THIS TEACHER DOESN'T LIKE QUESTIONS ESPECIALLY WHEN STUDENTS TRY TO ARGUE A POINT, SHE'LL EAT U ALIVE NO QUESTIONS ASKED. ITS BEEN 10 WEEKS IN THAT CLASS AND I STILL HAVE NO IDEA IF I AM GOING TO PASS. U HAVE TO WORK WITH MARX, ZIZEK,HEGEL, FREUD, LACAN... DUGDE FOR YOURSELF!
this women sucks!!! unhelpful! slow, weird, ass womwen. pisses people. totally don't go for her.
SHES THE ONLY ONE ENJOYING THE CLASS.SHES DOES NOT LIKE QUESTIONS AND NEVER IN HER OFFICE TO HELP YOU OUT...NOT A NICE PERSON!
She's tough. She pushes people hard, but only because she knows they're capable of more. There's a lot of work, but I found the class very rewarding. She won't bite your head off if you ask questions, but she likes a good debate. She's by far the most involved professor I've had in a long time.
I was very disapointed. Professor seemed interested in your opinion ONLY if she agreed with it. Does not like questions. Does not like you to disagree with her. Some parts of lecture were contradictory.
good luck
The class is challenging, and she expects a lot from students. Most aren't up to the challenge! If you like to work your brain off, take the class, and work hard, and you will learn the foundation of literary crit, and be WELL prepared to transfer to a REAL school. Wimps need not apply!
she is a cool teacher and will work with you to enhance your english skills. if you work hard, you will succeed.
You are only correct ONLY if she agreed with her opinion. Does not like questions. Does not like you to disagree with her, she says she wants your opinion but really she wants you to agree with her and that is all. Some parts of lecture were contradictory. Very defensive.
Just by reading some of the ratings I can see why people rate her hard: they cannot even write a sentence in English. It's a hard class, but is well worth it if you're interested in good discussion, challenging readings. If you feel threatened maybe you're not up to the challenge. Stay in highschool
It is a hard class.
If you want to fail take her class. She is the worst teacher I have ever had, if you struggle she won't help you only helps the students who were born smart. The whole semester was a battle, and seems to put people down instead of encouraging them. Barely got a C
I will recommend you guys don't try to take her class.
She is a horrible teacher, never take her, you'll be sorry! Trust me.
Prof Bonilla is a very challenging teacher, which a student needs if he/she plans on majoring in English. She does a wonderful job of drawing comparisons between literary theory and the assigned texts. She is not "mean" or "contradictory", just passionate about the literature. Take her if your up
Great teacher...
I couldn't stand a moment in that class. There is nothing wrong with being challenged. I didn't find her challenging; I found her to be a pain. The material she chooses to cover sucks and then she doesn't even present it in an interesting way. FIND ANOTHER ENGLISH PROFESSOR!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!! This prof. should be a communications or advertising teacher NOT an english professor. Take this class if you want a prof. who wants you to repeat word for word what she tells you in conference meetings.
This class is like a battle for me. Eassy topics are weird and she wants you to agree her idea. Really weird class!
Professor Bonilla is amazing. She's a tough teacher, but only because she wants a strong effort from her students. You don't have to adopt her ideas. She actually encourages students to come up with their own logical interpretations. My writing improved greatly in the course. I even changed my major to English after her class.
kinda political latina angst. just do as she sez and move on.
I can see different points presented from other students. This is the thing about this professor. She is not open to your opinions and she is very intimidating. I tried speaking up to her and she just basically growled at me. Called me a **** because I was writing a paper about my own ethnicity. She reminds me of a little witch.
it is my experience that allows me to determine that bonilla is just an angry woman with no real need to be teaching.
If you aren't up for the struggle, don't bother. I managed to worm an A out of her, but it was really difficult. I don't think her literature choices are up to snuff. Difficult tests. Closed-minded. Arrogant. Hard to talk to. Not helpful. There have got to be better English teachers out there! She wont make you love literature, lets put it that way
she is hard and you do have to do as she says in order to pass the class
Bonilla is a challenging prof who wants real arguments from her students. If you doubt your interest or abilities in taking a college level english course, find someone easier. That said she will make a better writer out of you. Do the work and turn it in on time. I got an A..
She grades fairly, and taking her ENG1B course, we watched "A Bug's Life" and analyzed it. We also read William Shakespeare's "The Tempest", Franz Fanon's "Wretched of the Earth" (actually one of the books shown inside Rage Against The Machine's liner notes of the album "Evil Empire"). Her essay assignments are about 4-5 pages.
She is very biased, arrogant, un-understanding woman who thinks that only her idea is right and she won't accept any of your ideas. If you want to get "A", make sure you visit her office hours, and check with her whether you agree with you or not. Otherwise your grade will be really bad, believe me.
not a good prof... she acts like shes more like a dictator than a college prof..... make sure you agree with her or else....... i got an A in the class but i had to work hard for it
She is a nice teacher
This class was very tough. Readings are difficult and writings are tiresome. In the end I had learned so much from her and it was all worth while.
She is very passionate about what she teaches... but sometimes comes off as close-minded. All in all, gets straight to the point and prepares you well.
Horrible...
Horrible
Very hard. Lots of work, and intense thinking. But, all in all, a very good professor. If you are lazy, I don't recommend taking her. But, if you are willing to work and learn, you benefit in the long run.
Proff. Bonilla is and looks like a weird"O"...she gives Allot of work, essays, novel readings, and Allot of Hard philosophy, and presentations...Her class is a bit hard, but her lectures are clear...Everyone that has taken her, knows that she is a bit of a weird person, and a hard proffersor too...after all she helped me understand philosophy...
She is the best. Might be deep thinking, but I have to sya she changed my view of advertisements. Easy class. Basically analyse ads. Lectures are clear grading is very fair. She is my favorite English teacher. Does not like slackers. Prepares us well for UC schools. I recommend her. Your the best prof
Yes she is hard but isnt that what great learning is about? She's a great Prof! Changed my view of the world! Honestly I feel like a better person after her class. I didnt get one on one time but I know she is there if you need the help I work 6 days a week so I could never go. TAKE HER! Trust me! She will help you grow outside ur consumer box!!!!

Lectures were hard to follow because of the unnecessary tangents. The whole semester I thought she hated me (she yells) but she gave me a better grade than I expected. If you do the work it is an easy A
She was a great professor to me. The material is hard but then all worth it in the end and you find yourself reusing it in other classes. Philosophy was so much fun to learn with her! I got such a kick out of reading "Fight Club." Do the work and the reading and you'll be fine. And she gave me a great recommendation!
Shes a touch teacher. if you're the type of person who is easily intimidated by professors, then this class is not for you. her yelling and putting students on blast is really funny and she just means well. she's a good teacher, she's very helpful. she goes over the essay assignments and what has to be done in a lot of detail. i enjoyed this class
She was tought at first, but then she will help you realize what she is talking about. If you're not paying attention to her lectures, you won't get the point. She makes you think and even though she might sound ****, she actually has a very valid point. She does have little angry outbursts when idiots ask her stupid questions.
Bonilla is a fair prof when it comes to grading, but sure does pick out her favorites. If you don't speak up the first week, expect to be ignored the rest of the semester. She's very animated when she lectures. When you disagree w/ her she doesn't let it go until you give in. It's an interesting class...
She was not helpfull and did not know how to explain her work
She is not very helpful unless ypu go meet with her after class, she will explain things after assigments are graded and returned. If u have weak writing skills don't take the class because she will have no mercy with you're grades.
I just wanted to update this as I took a different teacher after dropping her 1B class. It was night and day, Bonilla is a prof obsessed with how bad colonialism was and Hegelian philosophy. She never actually teaches you any structured writing and assumes you're not taking the class to do so. Do not take her.
All I can say is erratic, and I mean that in the worse sense. She jumps around like a fool ranting incomprehensible babble and she refuses to be challenged when it comes to having your own opinion about the plays. I seriously hated her and the only reason I got a "B" was because I worked really hard. You will enjoy reading all the plays but you wil
Professor Bonilla's classes are challenging but definitely teaches you something. I have since transferred and have encountered the material she taught many times. If you actually want to learn something and become a better writer, I suggest you take her class. She is a good mentor and very helpful if you don't get the material.
I really enjoyed Prof Bonilla's class on Shakespeare. I hadn't read any Shakespeare before taking her class and she really helped me understand it and enjoy it. She is a tough prof, but if you apply yourself and listen, you'll do well in her class.
Shes really intimidating @ first, but you'll grow fond of her. She eases up as the semester progresses. Anyone could walk into her office at any time and ask for help and she WILL GIVE IT. Anyone. Shes nice and if she puts you on the spot, its because you continually seek attention by blabbering left & right. Not much work imo. TL;DR: Take her!!!!!
The worst prof. I've had since I started college. She tries to hard to be funny but humor is not her thing. Hard class if you have never heard of Althusser, Lacan, among some other philosophers. DONT TAKE HER....
text is challanging but in the end very rewarding. helps students write their thesis & topic sentenses in class. u need 2 understand the text in order 2 do well on the essays. dont even think about BSing your way through, thats not happening. she can be intimidating & scary but she means well. she changed my view of the world =)best teacher ever!
I LOVE PROF. BONILLA! Yeah, she gave me my first "C", but that doesn't mean I'm going to falsly paint this comment red with hate. I learned so much from her, and would love to be in her class again if we weren't being graded!haha She's a hard grader, but she's always open to help- unfortately, I was too shy to seek her out.An Enlightening course!
Absolutely worst instructor. Refuses to hear opinions other than her own. Asks interpretations on assmts and regularly decries them as wrong if they vary from hers. Loses her cool easily, many students drop every semester accd to Department. Qualified to teach grade school, not at college-level. Incompetent. Avoid even if last class available.
Professor is awesome!! She is not easy, and if you are seeking for an easy A forget it. If you love challenge, then take this course. You learn a lot in this class.
Her teaching style and clarity are average. The biggest thing i noticed is that she grades based on her personal opinion of you, which is not very fair. Her lecture is kind of boring and she has in mind what she wants from you on an essay exactly. It's not a good class for expressing personal creative ideas. You'd better follow hers for an A!
Prof Bonilla really knows her stuff and is passionate. Her class is not easy, but really challenges you. She takes time explaining the readings. I really came out learning a lot and enjoyed the topic. I have a better understanding of colonization and those it affects even today. Lazy people need not take this class, you won't do well.
The material she teaches is hard, which makes the class hard, but she loves what she teaches. 3 papers, ~5quizzes, and a project. YOU WILL GET THE CLASS AT THE VERY END! Don't do project change and do Cry lot 49, way easier IMO. She teaches from PP and gives study guides to each reading material. If your an A/B writer take her, if not I wouldnt.
Worst professor I have ever had. I rarely dislike a professor this much, but I didn't learn anything new in this class. She doesn't want to hear any interpretations of the reading other than her own, and there was no structure to the class. When none of the students know what's happening or what she's even talking about, there's a problem.
Amazing teacher! Intimidating at first, but honestly her class is very interesting. Mind-blowing. She doesn't give too many assignments. Her quizzes and tests are really easy if you study her notes. She grades really hard, but if you go to her for office hours for your papers you'll do well. Very seldom she's unclear, but most of the time she is.
The philosophers you learn about in her class are very intelligent thinkers and will change the way you view the world (Hegel and Fanon). Bonilla, even though she teaches concepts by them, has a knack for not following it herself. She limits student's opinions in papers in favor for her own. You can read Hegel outside of this class, don't take it.
She is an interesting person with charming quirks and personality. That being said, not the best educator, unclear in lectures, can be very condescending, diversity of opinion in the classroom is not encouraged, for a class on literary analysis she is intensely focused on philosophy. A nice person, but take another prof for this class.
She's very demanding when it comes to the readings but the class is manageable as long as you stay on top of it. She presents her material in an easy to understand manner and is always willing to help if you don't understand something.
she is a really nice teacher! she introduced me to different perspective towards reading. if you want to get exposed to the MANDATORY books in college like Hegel's Phenomenology of Spirit, you should take her class. It prepares you for transfer! :D
She is a great teacher and taught the subject with lots of passion and enthusiasm. She can come across as arrogant and condescending but in the end she was a very sweet teacher who helped my understanding of difficult subjects such as Fanon and Hegal. Definitely take her if you are already a strong writer if not find another teacher.
Had her for 1C, she's definitely a tough grader, but not impossible to pass her class. And this is coming from someone who sucks at essays. She does expect a lot, but come to her with your paper for office hours and you should do fine! Discussions were very interesting, could be because my class was funny, but still. Overall, don't mess around too much with the work, DO WORK. And you should pass.
avoid at all costs
In short- AWESOME. There are no shortcuts or BS tolerated, so as long as you go in knowing what is expected of you, you'll do great. She's patient and genuinely wants to see her students succeed but she doesn't suffer fools. What I learned in that class changed my world view and enriched my life in a profound way. Don't be a weeny. Take her.
Brilliant, funny, sarcastic, & not going to baby crappy interpretations of texts. She's prepping you to thrive for transfer, don't be upset about it! Thanks to profs like her I feel well prepared now that I've left PCC for Berkeley. I still go back to my notes from her class! Go to office hours, she is very kind & will help if you are struggling!
It's not a difficult class. The work is fairly easy, and she is an easy grader. Make sure you take notes of her lectures because her interpretations of the works are necessary for you to get a high grade on the homework and quizzes. Midterm and final were easy and only required memorization.
Three years later and she's still one of the best professors I've ever had! She's prepares you to transfer and genuinely cares. She's not easy but if you do the work and actually try you will gain skills that will help you at any Cal State or UC and will follow you long after you left her class.
refuses to respect any opinions but her own tough grader is an understatement, really strict about word choices don't bother
I've met many hard teachers, but Martha, she was the first teacher who ever made me so confusing. It wasn't just me, all of her student barely understood what she want for essay! only one student got A for mid term. what made us uncomfortable about the class was her rude attitude too.
Bonilla's lectures and content are very interesting. However, I felt that Bonilla herself was intimidating and unclear. Bonilla is only interested in essays and discussions that reflect her own ideas. Otherwise you'll be shot down. On the plus side, she doesn't assign too many readings and they're usually short.
DO NOT TAKE. I REPEAT, DO NOT TAKE. Worst class I've ever taken in my life. The way she grades is absolutely terrible. Only 100 points for the entire class. On essays you start with a perfect score, and every mistake she finds she docks off 0.5-1.5 points. She's very unclear with directions for everything. More than half the class dropped.
Bonilla is a very difficult grader. Her lectures are based on history and are quite confusing. She doesn't give much detail in what she wants, but grades very hard. Be ready to receive low grades and be very confused.
Took her for Honors 1A English. Very tough class. She is a super hard grader BUT she did make me a better writer. Take her class only if you're willing to put in the work. I ENDED UP WITH AN A si se puede! She might seem like a mean lady in the beginning but if she sees you try and do all her extra credit she really goes the distance for you too.
DON'T TAKE HER! She a very tough grader, more than half the class got low scores on essays. Very unclear on what she wants you to write about. Her opinions are always "right," don't go against her. She will keep going even if she's slightly wrong, she will prove that she's right.
I loved this class. She is a little unclear about what she wants, but she is very available to discuss anything you need more clarity on. I definitely utilized office hours to show her my papers and ask questions. Do all of the homework and spend time on the papers and you will get an A.
Terrible. Unless your views happen to match hers precisely, then you're good. She won't respect your opinions because her opinion is the only one that matters. Many couldn't understand her, many dropped.
Very knowledgable about Shakespeare and literature. Very inspirational and argumentative. It's not true she doesn't accept other opinions, but she requires students to back up their literary claim with real textual evidence rather than arguing what one wants
She is not good teacher, and does not give any good feedback on anything.
It's her way or the highway, not very helpful.
A very mean spirited person to say the least. I hope all of your opinions match hers word for word. I argued with her once and got my paper back with only 3 points out of 15. Most of the points off were for things that were perfectly fine. PLEASE DON'T ARGUE!
She isn't a bad teacher. A lot of the material she lectures on seems arcane because it's a discipline. You've got to pay attention to her lectures. You can totally argue against her opinions, but you have to be able to support it. She's incredibly kind too, and she wants to help. See her during office hours if (when) you got lost in her class.
took her class fall 2015, she herself was a good person and she is very passionate about what she does but she is very confusing and if your essays don't match what her opinion is then you will not get a good grade. shes very sarcastic and favors certain people. passed the class but wish I would have been with another professor
I enrolled in her Fall 2015 Eng 78A. She's passionate and eager to teach about Shakespeare. If you're unsure about anything, email her or make use of office hours. She is willing to help you out, if you put in the effort. If you're arguing against her view, you have to back it up based on textual evidence (aka training for UC/CSU standards).
Yes, she is a tough grader but it's only because she wants you to be a college level writer. Her lectures were eye-opening and she makes you see things from a new perspective. She's a great professor for those who actually care about improving in writing.
Her directions about some assignments can be confusing, but she is reasonable to an extent. Ready to teach you quite a lot if you are willing to put in a significant amount of effort, and her writing assignments/feedback significantly improved my writing. She will try to scare off people who aren't serious about learning the first few weeks.
Professor Bonilla, challenges students to think critically about issues we face in society and how they relate to the text chosen for the class. She comes off very tough during the start of the year to clear out any lazy people, but you find out later she is a total softy and genuinely cares for your success!
Just Horrible. If you're a guy with an opinion different to her views, she will criticize you in front of the whole class and explain how ignorant you are.
Here's how to know whether this class is for you! Do you: 1. follow blindlessly without any original opinions? 2. love being confused by what is expected and how to pass? 3. love listening to 2 hour lectures twice a week without actually learning how to write? 4. want to be constantly humiliated? If yes, congratulations this class is for you.
Everything written below is true... and I got an A
Everything bad below here is totally false. She developed a relationship with each person through their class discussion. She doesn't call you out in class, she asks you to defend your position with conviction. She teaches with passion but yes, coursework is confusing because it's a big boy class. All she asks is that you read works of the course
Never have I been so discouraged from writing. She would read perhaps one or two pages and leave comments such as "What's happening to the sentences" or "Too wordy" with little to expound upon. As it goes by, one thing is apparent. There is only ONE way to write and she manages to enforce binary into writing. Write how she wants you too. Or fail.
First off, just to clarify how obscene I found this class - we started with a class of 36 ended w 7! I cant even fathom how there are good reviews on this page. I was told by her that I would "never be a good writer" in her office among her contemporaries as I was already in tears. Maybe her standards were high, or maybe she's a jerk with tenure.
I was in her class for 5 weeks, and dropped it after I had had enough of her snide comments on top of the berating, harassment, and humiliation I experienced in her classroom. I do not understand how she can be a teacher. She lacks patience, humility, empathy, and emotional understanding of her students. I will not be attending her classes anymore.
Honestly one of the best teachers I've ever had! This class does take a lot of time, patience, and you should go to her office hours. If you're looking for an easy class this is not the one to take, but if you want to challenge yourself and learn to be a better writer then I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS CLASS!
terrible. do not take this class. i wish i checked rate my prof first before taking her class
She made my first fall semester at PCC HORRIBLE. I dreaded coming to class every T and Th from 1:00 to 3:05 because she always belittles you, expects you to know things she never taught, she's very One sided and never had a clear comment to you besides "you should know!". Just DO NOT take her class if you don't want to be put down in English.
Been on this website and see so many negative comments against Prof. Bonilla. It is kind of sad some students throw their energy out of their chests randomly without acknowledging their own limitation. Did it ever occur to you that your paper makes her feel bad about herself? If you always want an easy A, probably it will be the rest of your life.
This class was so bad i HATED my existence. I tried so hard to understand her and worked with her but she was so unclear. She said my English 100 prof was bad but I learned so much from her than Bonilla. Bonilla's comments are just straight out rude and mean and very belittling. Take her if you like being belittled, made fun of and being lost!
if you don't care about your gpa take her if you don't care about having a bad grade take her her teaching college success is A JOKE WORTH LAUGHING FOR
Bonilla isn't a bad professor. Her work may be kinda hard to understand but if you don't understand something you can go to her office and talk to her about it she's really nice. She may be kinda rude but honestly, she's really nice. The way she teaches you to learn a lot and she helps you a lot I do recommend to take her but you just gotta do all
Bonilla is a pretty sweet professor, lectures were a bit boring, but they were pretty clear & work load is slightly heavy but shes very understanding as long as you engage in class & participate. She grades pretty tough but its for your own benefit honestly. Ask for help WHEN you need it ,1 on 1 can help you a lot. Would recommend!
She was very unclear with her lectures. she changed a lot of things last minute. she promised us no final and then she decides to give us an "extra credit" final but ends up grading it as part as our final grade, not as something that can help. i wouldnt take her again. i HATED english and i am english major
I wouldn't say she is bad prof, she wants you to pass but she treats the class as a gender studies class more than an English class. She is very picky on essays and will knock off points for little things. Try to avoid this class
She can be very confusing.
Do not take. Horrible. Suuuuper tough grader. In my whole class not one student got an A. I wish I would've known about rate my professor before I registered for her class.
My class was hopelessly confusing due to the sheer number of typos and mistakes in the course material and instructions. Convoluted wording, grammatical errors, and sparse instructions made this basic English course infuriating. I do not understand how you can have a doctoral degree in English and be prone to such cacography.
I dont recommend this professor. Her grading is confusing, and shes insensitive to any situation when it comes to submitting assignments. She hasnt assigned material or lectures and still demands perfect performance on each essay.
Professor Bonilla is a tough grader, but she explains every assignment very clearly. She's giving very valuable feedback to lead you into right direction. As non-native English speaker I've managed to finish this course with 96% and I wrote my very first essay in English in this class. If you put an effort into this class, you'll be fine.
She reuses canvas posts, never rewrites the due dates for assignments, instructions are misspelled or not written properly, and she never organizes readings. The only reason I say she is a difficult professor is because of how unclear she is about when readings and assignments are due. She gets frustrated with students with no proper feedback.
it was awful. We wrote at least 6 thesis.
She isnt a bad prof, but she does expect a lot from her students. To do well you have to be prepared and in class every day. She will give you some extra time to complete assignments if she knows that you're trying to succeed. She's not mean, buts she's not exactly nice either. She gets an attitude at times when people aren't taking class seriously
You get the grade based on the effort you put in. She is a tough grader but wants you do well, her feedback on essays is really helpful. She makes you think and apply yourself, she also gives you all of the resources you need to do well in her course. Would take this professor again as she pushed me to do my best.
Take this class if you like being stressed and humiliated by your professor. Honestly one of the worst teacher's I've ever had, she doesn't explain well and expects you to understand the material in one go. Very entitled and rude. Say one "wrong" thing and she will go crazy and humiliate you in front of the class. Almost impossible to get an A.
She was very unprofessional and would let us know 10 mins before class starts that she had to cancel. I had to drive 30 minutes to get to school just for her to send a message that she wouldn't even show. And she did it more than once. She also took her sweet time grading our assignments and wouldn't even give us good feedback.
She has a low rating because that's how bad of a teacher she is. She's extremely unorganized and didn't make sense even when you asked clarifying questions. On top of that, I felt humiliated by her. As a neurodivergent, she failed me as an instructor, and I had to drop her class. If you are neurodivergent, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. She will not help.
while i understand that not every professor can be perfect, bonilla went above and beyond to be as backhanded as she could. she has very high expectations but she has a disorganized and frazzled way of trying to make you meet this expectations. she made me doubt myself, made me scared to even turn in a paper because she was so rude and belittling.
Unprofessional, criticizes and scolds students even when they are making a genuine effort. She even yells or insult students with answers she found particularly incorrect. My English 1B & 1C classes have been much easier, her expectations are way too high. My experience wasn't a one off, class began with about 25 and ended with about 6-8 students.
If you want to be belittled and talked to like you know nothing take this class:) Rude is an understatement. She will make your day the worst. She comes off nice but then BOOM disaster. Her cat died so don't mention it because she will cry. We talk about literally nonsense. She loves being called Dr. (she isn't a doctor)
Personally, I feel this professor does not care about failing you and also does not care about her students. She is rude and has very high expectations. I have taken many English classes before and this by far has been the worst teacher I have ever had.She is not only rude but also belittles the class and projects her personal issues onto the class
This professor was particularly head strong in her ways. She refused to work with her students if requesting aid, and especially those who did not refer to her as Dr. There were various spelling and grammatical errors within her canvas page which would be ignored and left even when brought to her attention. Her grading criteria are not clear+biased
To be honest, I took this class with Professor Bonilla years ago and I just came on here to give her a rating because I STILL THINK ABOUT THIS CLASS ALL THE TIME. I transferred to UCLA from PCC and Bonilla's class ranks among one of my favorite college courses I've ever taken. The material was interesting and her lectures on it were even more so.
DO NOT TAKE!. Graduated from PCC and took this course to fulfill English transfer requirements. I have a 3.75 average and generally I get A's.. She humiliates and reviles anyone who does ANYTHING she doesn't like. Humiliated students for being late and was 15+ minutes late to every class. Awkard and moody. Impossible to predict. Can't be pleased.
Prof Bonilla runs a tough class, but she really pushes you to improve your writing. The work is challenging, but using Unstuck ai and the free textbook helped me stay on top of it. Overall, a rewarding experience if you're willing to put in the effort.
Genuinely one of the worst professors I have ever had. I have never put in so much effort into a class to be belittled and made feel like I couldn't speak English. She has a thing for making her students feel lesser than. Her expectations for the class are far too high and lead to many people struggling. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS YOU WILL REGRET IT!!!
Actually terrible professor. She is the harshest grader I have ever encountered, she is very rude and backhanded. I have never received a low grade like this. DO NOT TAKE HER!!! She needs to figure out her personal issues and not take them out on hard working students.
