Wow, very disorganized...and her left-leaning is quite obvious...and annoying.
Disorganized; doesn't require enough intellectual depth from the students.
material is interesting, but the class could be a little less demanding
No Comments
I found her class interesting, but hard to take notes. She needs to slow down.
Thsi teacher really loves law. She really listens, too.
She's a spitter! Interesting class though. Unorganized.
Talks very fast, but overall a good teacher.
She knows her law and is excited about it. Great teacher.
great teacher and very interesting
Excellent teacher, really cares,very knowledgable
Hard exams, demands a lot, loves law, go to class and take hers!
She is crazy, but it does make her class interesting
Out of all the teachers at this University, she is BY FAR the most intelligent.
Her excitement about law is contagious! Super knowledgeable. Helps students too!
Very good teacher, makes classes exciting
Has good ideas, but demands too much. Not very clear and hard to take notes.
nothing discussed in class is on the test
This teacher really cares..let's you do extra credit
Her group projects are a JOKE! --- She is the super disorganized!
Loves to talk-in and out of class about law
Field trips to court, quest speakers, something new every day
Her tests are really hard... if it wasn't for the project, I wouldn't pass

Nice lady but completely disorganized. Speaks so incredibly fast that absolutely nothing is retained. Class time that should be used to discuss materials in depth is wasted reviewing articles. Crams way too much work into way too short a time period.
Great Teacher, cares about students. If you show you care about the class you will get a good grade.
Acts like her class is the only class you have. Disorganized. Tests are difficult. Relys too much on the book.
She is awsome, she teaches a ton of information and does it while keeping your interest, not to mention she is amazing at getting the info accross, and helping you ifyou haved a problem. One of my best professors! I wish other prof would teach like her.

I loved this teacher. My favourite all semester. She seems to really care about the students and the subject she teaches. Recommend her class to everyone!!
A very interesting teacher...haha, the tests were HARD! but the papers and projects made up for it in the end. Although it was a lot of work, this class was one where I learned the most and still remember most of it.
Don't listen to those who say the tests are hard. Half the questions are from a practice test she gives out ahead of time. Read the book and the tests are easy, those who think they are hard probably aren't too bright.
A very entertaining teacher. Tells great stories. However, seems unorganized and is not afraid to cancel class or let you out (very) early. Managable class, study the practice tests!
SHE IS CRAZY!!!! The class isn't hard. Hint: Really know the practice exam and you will pass the tests!!!!
she gives out a lot of work on top of other work. she is very unclear on what she expects. she hasn't given us an assignment all year which the whole class understood exactly what to do. many of the test questions come from the practice test!!!
Very demanding. Warning: Do not take this class if you miss class a lot. She will fail you after 5 absences! But other than that, she is extremely friendly and enthusiastic. She also spends a lot of time on special projects and activities.
She was one of my most favorite profs.
She is a very good teacher who makes her subject very interesting. Great class and teacher. Be prepared to work...
The worst teacher that I have ever had. She doesn't teach us anything, we basically have to learn everything on our own. She has some poor students doing all of her work for her. All of the work she assigns is just busy work. The final project is very unreasonable to ask for group papers that long.
Learned a lot from her, and she really knew her stuff, and also very funny and made the subject interesting to listen to. This was a very hard class, and a lot of work definitely, but i really feel like it was worht it in the end.
Awesome teacher, probably the most entertaining class I had this semester. Very enthusiastic about teaching, wish there were more like her....
this class was stupidly easy. I don't even think she read the papers we turned in. She didn't really teach either for the last half of the semester. All my homework I got check pluses no matter how much effort I put in. Just do all the work, which isn't much and you can't get less than a B
Awesome teacher. She makes a complicated subject simple and i always enjoyed her lectures.
tests kind of hard... need to study for them. final paper an absolute breeze, 20 page (done in groups of 4) paper more intimidating then it actually is - dont sweat it. really not too hard of a class overall; if you put in a little effort, an A is easily attainable.
Class was pretty easy. Study the practice tests she gives out, about 1/3 of the test questions come from that. I dont think she even reads the papers.
Very interesting teacher even though I thought class was pretty uselss. Plan on doing a lot of reading. A lot of work, but pretty easy to get a good grade if you put the effort in. STUDY THE SAMPLE TESTS! And I'm almost positive she doesn't read the homeworks or any of the papers.
Great professor. Very enthusiastic about the subject and keeps ur interest during class. Class is worth going to. I learned a lot from this class that can be applied to everyday life, not just in the business arena. I really enjoyed this class.
She knows her stuff... but i attended more classes than she did... also very unclear with requirements.
Nice lady, enthusiastic, knowledgeable, engaging. However, it sometimes seems like she doesn't have time to teach- too busy with her other (lawyer) life. Hard to get ahold of. Unclear about expectations and assignments. Go to class and read your book and you'll get a fine grade, but expect to feel some frustration about structure in her classes!
Pretty fair proffessor, likes to pile to work on though
This professor is a joke. She never shows up to class and has a different excuse every week. She assigned random grades to people based on what she thought of them, not the previous grades they had been given in the class. At the end of the semester, there were 10 of us that had to ask for our grades to be changed. Avoid at all costs!!!
Agree, way to busy to ever go to class, different excuse every day, gives random assignments and forgets she gave them, doesn't read any of the papers, study the practice test and get through the semester.
I honestly cannot believe that UMaine keeps this woman employed. She is by far the worst teacher I have ever had in my 20+ years of schooling. She never reads what you write and just gives you random feedback that has nothing to do with what you did. Avoid at all costs. However if you have to take her, make sure you document everything you do.
Class Was Really Boring, A Lot Of Useless Stuff. Read The Power Points She Posts Before Tests And Know The Answers To The Practice Test And You Will Do Fine.
Horrible horrible horrible horrible lady. You can tell she doesn't read anything you do and has no basis for the grades she gives out. She sends students on wild goose chases for pointless extra credit and the tests are ridiuclously hard. The only way to succeed is memorize the practice tests she posts. she just changes the order.
This class was alright. The course material wasnt always interesting but if you did go to class and do the ALL the work then you will get a good grade. Read the powerpoint slides and memorize the practice tests for the tests.
This professor is terrible. Literally the worst class I have taken. The class is not that hard, it's just useless. She is completely disorganized, misses a lot of classes, very unclear on assignments, hardly lectures at all, teaches nothing that is one the test. The test questions you just have to memorize from the practice test she posts. BAD!
HORRIBLY TEACHER. Honestly, HOW is this woman still employed by the university? She assigns useless assignments, rarely attends class and promotes stupidity. The Tests are fine, she gives you an example and the powerpoint from the book are on the website for the publisher. SHE DOES NOTHING HERSELF- NO Teaching capability!!! STAY AWAY

Possibly the worst class i have taken at the university... Didnt teach anything just babbled on (if she even showed up for class) didnt care about the students and was VERY unorganized...

Broderick is a decent professor and seems very knowledgeable about legal subjects. Also her tests are not hard, you can simply memorize key legal concepts provided on practice tests. However you have to put a lot of work into group projects with very little guidance from the professor as to the requirements and format.

It would be pointless to go to class if she didn't take attendance. Sure she is knowledgeable about law but she doesn't teach anything in class. She is either late or doesn't come at least twice a week and won't let you know ahead of time. The tets aren't bad a lot of the material is on the practice test so just memorize that.
Not one of my favorite teachers, but I got a good grade. Just study the practice exams and you'll do great.
Best professor I ever had. She will meet with you and explain any thng. Ms. Broderick was very knowledgable and loved current events.
Very good professor. Very understanding and passionate about law. You'll feel like a more knowledgeable citizen afterwards.
Tests are easy, but the paper is extremely difficult.
Let us have open book tests, but even if you read the book and attend her lectures, nothing on the test has an relevance to anything that is said. Incredibly hard to meet with outside of class, forgetful, gives assignments she may or may not look at. Very passionate about law and overly patriotic, but doesn't seem to enjoy teaching.
This teacher will put you to work, but she knows what she talking about! She preaches a lot about using your time wisely, with this class you will NEED to: case reviews, random quizzes, 20 page group paper and presentation. She is entertaining and keeps you on your toes. Overall it's not too bad, just be ready to work.
Nice professor; 20-page group paper/presentation is brutal. Exams are hard if you don't exam the practice exams and the cases. Classes are fun and you don't really nee to take a lot of notes. Lots of extra credit opportunities-take advantage of them
15 page group paper and 20 minute presentation. 12 page individual take home midterm paper. 20 page take home final paper. She assigns way too much work. I do not recommend this class to anyone.
great professor. really made you think about how businesses can be socially responsible.
Where to begin?.. Prof Broderick is so unbelievably unorganized, its funny. If you can get past not getting homework back and doing assignments that don't even get looked at (including major papers/proj), then you can actually learn law from a fantastic prof. great lecturer, passionate. 20 page group semester paper isn't that bad, tests are EASY
very experienced attorney who loves teaching.Loved the videos.
Great teacher..expects a lot but always loves to talk law.
Awful teacher. You learn next to nothing in class, expects way too much from you (teach yourself almost everything), doesn't make anything clear, talks way too fast, new MindTap feature she is trying is a joke. Avoid.
Good professor overall, study the practice exams she gives out they are usually pretty close to the real exam and some tests she uses the same questions. Other than that there was a big group project and a few homework assignments.
She is a nice person but not a very good teacher. Classes were not very profitable and I learned almost nothing in her class. She is also horrible in responding to emails when you ask her a question. I hope I never have to take a class with her again!
If you plan on going to class hungover this isn't the course for you. Her voice is way too loud. She's way to passionate about the law it make it boring. Group project sucks. 20 pages of nonsense. Tests are easy though. Read the book and find people who will do the project you will have an easy A.
Not really a great teacher. Not very good at explaining things and very demanding. She wasn't terrible, but I would not take another class with her if I had the choice.
I really liked this professor. She used case studies that made it easy to understand. The new Mindtap online study tool really helped too. Large class size was only draw back.. 60+ students made it hard to do group work.
Great class. Learned a lot of good things about business AND law. Teacher expects a lot of work but ,hey, that's what I'm paying for.
Just come prepared so you don't feel like an idiot. Scribble the cases down before class so you at least know what she's talking about. Sit in the front row, she hardly ever calls on the front row for anything. Just know that when you're hungover Friday mornings she's going to be yelling in your ear. Tests aren't that hard, study old connect quiz's
Expects a lot, but grade ends up higher then you think it will be
She talks fast but you get used to it. Very energetic. I was scared I might not get the C- because friends told me it was a tough class, but I understand now. You just gotta put in the work. Tests aren't hard; study the material and apply it to real world situations.
Be ready to get called on randomly to answer questions you probably won't know. Make sure you read the text and understand the cases before coming to class. She cancelled class so many times it got annoying. Commuters would be half way there before she sent the email out that class was cancelled.
Never bother emailing her. She will read and never respond no matter the urgency. Class attendance is necessary but you will not learn much from attending. Her directions are very unclear and she is very unhelpful. Tests are difficult. Only good thing about this class is that there is no final. If given the chance do not take a class taught by her.
I really enjoyed this class. She works as a lawyer and uses many real world examples in lectures which made classes interesting. I enjoyed listening to her talk and this class made me consider going to law school. She would be willing to help any student in need and gives multiple opportunities for extra credit. You do have to work for an A.
Professor Broderick runs this course as if it a capstone for law school. The tests are far beyond the 200 level. Course material is poorly explained in class. Students are treated as subordinates first, people second. Arrogant and rarely replies to email within a week. Grade margin for attaining an "A" is extremely small. Select different teacher.
Classes are rarely worth attending, she just touches upon the major points in the reading, not really clarifying or expanding on the ideas. The final paper was mentioned many times but no official guidelines or rubric were ever handed out, and the final date changed from the 23rd (in the syllabus) to the 20th with an option to request an extension.
Although lectures are mandatory (if you miss more than 4 she fails you) you will learn almost nothing from attending them. I can honestly think of maybe one or two lectures where I learned something of value. She obviously loves the subject she teaches, but teaching is not her strong suit. If you can, take BUA 220 with another professor.
By far the worst professor and class experience I have had at UMaine. Had an honest interest in the subject matter but her lectures were unbearable, nothing but irritating rambling. She seriously never shuts up, even when she gave us an in class writing assignment she didn't stop to take a breath. Her attendance using assigned seats is ridiculous
Media Law was one of the worst courses I have ever taken at this school. The class was the biggest waste of time and full of arbitrary comments and useless jabber. I feel bad for BUA students who are required to take courses with her for their major. The woman just can't teach. I'm not some "bad student" complaining either; I have a 3.7 GPA.
Professor Broderick truly cares for her students. She has high expectations, but truly cares for her students and wants you to do well. If something happens keep her updated she will go above and beyond to assist with anything she can.
Mrs. Broderick was so good at explaining some crazy cases. I loved her. She was always there to talk to before an dafter class. She did tell us what she wanted and I felt reassured regularly by the homework.
Okay professor, pretty nice. Lecture is necessary, but is mostly made up of personal experience stories and supplementary information. You need to read the textbook if you want to do well on the exams. She does offer some extra credit material. The Business Plan is time consuming, but relatively easy, will get a good grade if you put in effort.
Great teacher and mentor. If you like law ,you will love her real life stories. She uses a biz plan to connect the dot and fun extra credit field trips.
disgrace to UMaine's MBS. takes forever to return graded work, never returns any writing assignments except for the idiotic business plan. blabbers during lecture with stories rarely relevant to course material. mandatory highschool-like assigned seating. its been past two weeks since the last project, FINAL GRADE HAS YET TO BE POSTED.
Easily the worst class I have taken here so far. The class is college level difficulty, but it's structured like a high school course. You're left completely in the dark about what your grade is the whole way through. Acts like her class is the only class worth worrying about. Group project is long and somewhat hard. Strange attendance system. Bad!
Martha expects us to do way more work than a full 5 course class load student can handle. Hundreds of pages of reading per week on top of a different book used for writing a book report. At least 4 worksheets due every week, and expects us to finish the long, dry chapters in a few days. She calls on random kids in class, so read the material.
NEVER responds to any emails, expects kids with tons of other classwork AND part time jobs to ONLY focus solely on her class, extensive/ridiculous amounts of homework/reading, will not take a class with her ever again.
If you're given a choice, never take a class with her. Certainly not this one. The material really isn't that difficult, but she is so demanding and even so intimidating that it's possible to get overwhelmed and do very poorly. If you can look past her disproportionately high standards, you'll be fine, just expect a heavy workload, and BE PREPARED.
Toughest class Ive taken yet. Exams are very hard and she is a very tough grader. Only thing I will give her is the stories she tells during lectures can be somewhat interesting. Must do the readings and take good notes. Study the cases
This professor gave me a lot of help during a difficult time. I passed because she motivated me and explained a lot.
At the VERY end of most classes, she'll pop in a quick, "poster due by next class on chapters 12 and 13" and never mention it or email it. Even if you do go to class, it's so easy to miss assignments like this. You won't know your grade until the end of the semester. She's the most unprofessional instructor I have had.
MAde a hard semester bearable. Despite covid, gave us a great way to survive at home by doing take home exams and online homework.
Worst teacher ive ever had. Doesnt communicate whatsoever. Almost feels as though she is going out of her way for me to do poorly in her class. Has no empathy and takes no responsibility for her own mistakes. Makes me want to transfer schools because how awful she is. So unhealthy for mental health and she has no sympathy/flexibility with covid.
Hands down the most confusing course I have ever taken. The professor did a poor job at explaining the course material and to make matters worse the syllabus was disorganized and riddled with spelling mistakes. The final project is a joke and you will get minimal help from her. She also does not grade work untill the end of the semester.
Worst professor you could imagine. Impossible to reach and when you do, extremely unhelpful. Very condescending. Gives no instruction on assignments and is very unclear.
Absolute worst professor I've had in my entire life. Good luck getting an email back. After 5 follow-up emails and still no response. Terrible at teaching.
Martha might be the worst professor in the entire state of Maine. She rambles about unrelated content in class, that's if she decides to show up that day. She is unorganized in nearly everything she does, doesn't make her requirements clear, and talks as if she's the most superior person in the room. Never take a class with this horrible professor.
It's not even halfway through the semester, and I already dread this class. Martha is a terrible professor with no guidance. She cancels class a lot (approx. 5 times so far) and a few times expected us to do group work without her even there. Doesn't mention all assignments in class or any details about it. Extremely unorganized and hard to follow.
Doesn't show up to class, class is very unstructured, doesn't respond to Emails.
One of, if not the worst teacher I've ever had. She rarely shows up for lecture, gives little direction on assignments, gives lots of homework in multiple confusing locations, and is absurdly rude and uncaring. If you need this course, find another professor. She does very little teaching, so be prepared to teach yourself.
She is terrible. Her lectures are required, however she has stated many times this is a self taught course. All you do in lecture for an hour and 15 minutes is sit and listen to her ramble on about random things that do nothing to strengthen your knowledge of the course. Group project worth 60% of your grade. Good luck ever getting an email back.
Very unhelpful and demanding professor. Strict grader involving longer papers. Her quizzes online are confusing and not clearly related to the text. Would not take again.
Very insensitive to unforeseen circumstances. VERY unorganized to the point she does not know if you're in the class or not. Uncaring, overall not a very kind person.
One of the best teachers I've ever had, but the most grueling course I've ever taken. She's a great lecturer, but a TOUGH teacher. Understanding when unforeseen circumstances arose. She genuinely cares about students, and is insanely knowledgeable. I'm glad I took this class, and I learned more from this class than all my others beforehand combined
Not a difficult class but definitely one that has a lot more work than what is needed. Class uses Engage so be prepared to spend more money on software. Will never accept anything past the deadline but will also never give you back your grades on time. Her lectures are actually interesting and worth attending.
I was deeply inspired by the prof's passion/expertise and was challenged throughout the course. The only pitfall was the group-oriented structure of the course which determined 60% of your grade. If you have the opportunity to pick group mates, choose wisely. This course requires extensive research/writing and commitment from all ends.
