don't miss class, go 2 open lab & ask bout fav's, earn exta credit with cadaver
Cule: ask her about what her favorites are. She give out sample tests.
Great teacher! make sure you never miss a class. attend every open lab, and do all your work. Her sample tests are very similar to her exams. One of my favorite teachers, but you have to participate in the class or she may not like you as much.
GO TO OPEN LABS!!! Sample tests are great!!
awesome teacher! if you go to all of the lectures and study the practice exams and lab stuff (i.e. models, slides, etc.)you can get an "A".
Great instructor!!! Makes confusing information much more clear.
go to open labs with questions, but if she doesnt answer your question to your liking then ask the tutors. i found the tutors to be helpful rather then the teacher
Sometimes she seem tought on the ooutside, but she really is a fun person and very easy to talk to. This class requires a LOT of studying. Expect to study an entire weekend for a test and you will get an A. She will never trick you on her questions.
i can honestly say that she is very helpful teacher. She is easy to talk to and she cares about her students. She's very clear and makes anatomy interesting. go to her open labs because it helps alot!!!!!!!!!!!!!
has 4-5 lab & lecture tests, all multiple choice & covering several chapters. asks lots of specific questions & uses the cadaver. time working on the cadaver required. the more you can study, do extra credit, go over old tests, & go to open labs on WEEKENDS, the better you'll do. cumulative final, but all she does is copy and pastes from old tests
Awesome teacher--never learned so much and it's served me well as I've gone on to advanced nursing courses. HARD class, you will need to work for those 5 units especially if you are shooting for an A or B, so don't take any other hard class the same time. She's a good teacher and works hard to help you get it--go to all the open labs you can.
Fantastic instructor--makes difficult material enjoyable. Very fair grader. Has high standards, but also VERY available to help struggling students. Practice tests are the way to get good grades on lecture tests. Lab tests are challenging. Highly recommend.
Ms.Dixon is a rockin awesome teacher. no doubt Anatomy was a great challenge for me, but she sure made it interesting! theres no way you can get a bad grade in that class as long as you go over the material from the textbook that she lectures on. she gives a pretest which is what the tests are based on. study hard, she makes its a really chill clas
She is very funny, so DEDICATED, so helpful and so smart. She is the most giving teacher that I have ever met. She cares SOOO much about her students (and even other anatomy students not in her class). She gives up her free time to come to school and help you if you need it. She even brings you food sometimes to make sure you eat before your final!
I got an A... here's how: She takes questions directly from the practice test, so memorize it! Others will have copies of previous tests so memorize those! Take pics of microscope slides and videotape her talking about models. If you are using the same book, buy the CD that comes with it – VERY helpful, esp. recognizing muscles on the cadaver!
Teacher is very fair, but hard. Study the practice tests. Make time to study early and often. Go to open labs - they only help you. She is also hilarious and there for you if you are struggling, but she expects you to put in the effort. DO NOT take this class if you have a lot going on unless you can dedicate a lot of free time to this class.
Dr Dixon is awesome.Tough but fair.Study practice tests and tests will be easy.Go to as many open labs as possible.Turn in all labs.If you do all that, an A is in your future. She is not boring and really knows her stuff.Highly recommended!!Hardly have to read text.Offers extra credit.
Definitely the most dedicated teacher at DVC (she is there 7 days a week). I never went to any open labs and I still got an A-- but a lot of students went EVERY weekend. Her tests are almost identical to the practice tests so you would be an idiot not to memorize those. She is nice but does not hesitate to snap at you if you say something dumb.
let me say I took this class during the summer! I feel she is more into lectures than teaching. No energy in the lecture at all! I do feel she is dedicated, but her style of teaching is horribly boring! I went to all the open labs and those ARE extremely helpful! I really wish she was more clear and intersting with her lectures.
Dr. Dixon is a dedicated teacher, in that she makes sure you have all required information to pass the class. But, it's time for her to retire. She is obviously tired of actively teaching. She reads the lectures directly from the power points and during lab you're on your own to learn the material. She's much more helpful in open lab than in class.
Wonderful teacher. I was amazed by her and her style of teaching. I think it is safe to say that who is to teach you the anatomy but someone who dedicated their whole life to it. Also if you take practice test, study lectures and do all of your labs you cannot but get an A in this class.
AMAZING! she is very dedicated. She explains everything and will clarify and go everything with anything you need help with. Study the practice exams. There is a ALOT of work and a lot of extra credit. You always have lots of chances to boost up your grade. Her lab exams are very hard...practice more for the labs. I would def recommend her. Great!
Great teacher! I took the class in the summer. It was a ton of work, but not difficult material. Go to open lab and study the practice tests.
Such a good Anatomy teacher. She truly cares about her students and is more than willing to dedicate her own time to helping her students. She comes in on the weekends for open lab (GO TO THEM)!! She also gives out practice exams. This class is definitely not an easy A, but with a lot of studying and time it is do-able! :)
Very difficult to pass! If you are planning to go to nursing school, make sure that you take it with someone else, so you can actually pass the class with a C or above! If you don't ,nursing schools won't accept you!
martha dixon is honestly one of the rudest teachers i have ever met. she makes you feel stupid for asking questions when she is the one who made things unclear. i dont know what her problem is, but she obviously is getting old, if that is the case she should retire.
I took this class over the summer, and i can honestly say that Professor Dixon is one of the most devoted people to her students. Shes there 7 days a week, and always willing to help. Tests are hard and you have to be completely committed to the class to do well, but you learn above and beyond any other class. Dixon can be rude, but shes also fun
Dr. Dixon was a great teacher. She is always there to help you if you ask her. Open labs are a must to attend. She takes alot of time to show you in open lab what will be on the test. This is not an easy class, and you have to be willing to study her lecture slides and practice tests. Very dedicated to her class. Great teacher!
Easy class and easy going teacher.Make sure to study the labs and you should easily pass the class.
This is NOT an easy class. Make sure you don't take any other classes when your taking Anatomy. Unfortunately, I took this class over the summer, so it was very fast paced. I did horrible on my TEAS test. I don't recommend taking this as a summer course.NOT a good idea.
Anatomy is a lot of memorization and really tough exams because there is so much to remember. Prof. Dixon comes in on weekends to let students work with the models and dissection. Take good notes and study everything, the book, the models, YouTubes, everything. This is a wonderful class.
For lecture, pay attention to her Power Points. The book helps to clarify. She gives out a PRACTICE TESTS for every test (use PP),study those and old tests. For lab tests, study models (Which she has on youtube), review labs and study tissues. She always has questions on the cadaver and on the microscope (tissues). EC is the same from past tests.
Take her! Dr. Dixon's classes are always difficult to get into and there's a reason for that - she's awesome! It's not an easy subject, but she makes it easier to understand and she's ALWAYS willing to help.
Martha Dixon the most dedicated teacher at DVC. Go to all the open labs and study as many practice exams as you can get your hands on and you can definitely earn the A. This is not a class for slackers, but you will have a great time and learn a lot from her. She has a great sense of humor and makes the class fun. Do not take 139 from anyone else!!
Dixon is a very dedicated teacher. She has open labs Fri-Sun, which are very helpful for the lab tests. Her lectures can be boring but it's important that you go. There is a lot of material to know, but if you study well before the test you will get an A. The key to this class is memorization and studying... and you will get an A!
Dr. Dixon's class is the best class I've taken at DVC. There is a lot of busy work, but it helps for the lab tests. The lecture tests are easy if you get as many practice tests as possible (TA will probably have some) and go over them constantly. I got an A in the class and I usually get B's in my classes. Going to open labs boosts your grade too.
SHe is an Aaamazing teacher, I have never met ANY teacher that would give up their own time, on the weekends to hold labs so that their students can catch up, earn ec or be more immersed in their studies. She oversees the nursing club as well. Anatomy= hard but she gives all resources & is great mentor, she empowers -take it!!!!
extremely rude and sarcastic and makes you feel dumb a lot of the time. I passed with an A but that's because i studied my butt off. Alright teacher overall. Studying early for exams is KEY
Go to all open labs in the beginning, then you can scale down once you get the hang of what type of studying works for you. Open labs were critical before exam #1 that had so much histology that it was the open labs repetition that allows you to memorize all the slides. Exams 2 and 3 are the most difficult. Watch SeeWhyAnatomy videos!
VERY difficult class if you are not willing to put in the effort. You have to study early and often, or you will not do well. You have to get a rhythm going and find methods of studying that will lead to your success. USE:youtube, seewhyatatomy, open lab, utilize the TA's & teacher (have them explain every model), read your book!I learned a TON!
She has alot of attitude when you ask questions DONT take it personal, she is unfortunately just like that. Nice one on one, but is very rude otherwise. Practice tests are your key for lecture. Open labs and seewhyanatomy/her videos for lab tests. Good amount of extra credit available. She is very dedicated there 7 days a week. Snappy but cares.
Awesome professor, GREAT class! Demanding as heck! Took a total of 16 units while working FT (I don't recommend that).TON of material with 300 question final (200 questions cumulative)! Chris Young is incredible! Don't wait till last minute to do practice test, use open labs, watch seewhyanatomy, record lectures, an grab study partners. Loved it!
LOVED this class! You will work so hard, yet learn so much, and that is the point right?Anatomy IS the foundation for further learning in medicine, so you want to really get it and not skate by.STUDY, STUDY, STUDY everyday.Go to open lab, watch seewhyatatomy, utilize TA's and teacher, work harder than you ever have, EFFORT. I earned an A!Worth it!
This class is due able.. I took it with two physiology and an acting class. Use the book! Use the pretest and STUDY! there is lots of extra credit!! DO IT. Do the homework its easy and time consuming. At first I started off rough. 2 F's 2D's But i stuck it out! made 4'B and got a 90A on my Final! IT IS POSSIBLE. I learned SO MUCH!
i took this course in the summer. i would do it again if i had the chance. 5 1/2 months squeezed into 6 weeks means that this class becomes your life for the duration of the course. get as many practice exams as you can get hold of and go to weekend open labs. i never used the text book to study, but did use it for lab homework.
Professor Dixon was literally the most helpful professor I've had at DVC. The key to success in her class is accumulating as many practice tests as possible. Most of the time she tests exactly from them! Also go on seewhyanatomy, go to open labs, and don't be afraid ask for help from the tutors. This class is hard, but it's definitely doable.
Took this class spring 2014. Fast paced, a lot of work, no slacker. Need practice test, seewhyanatomy, TA's, and Dr. Dixion and don't forget open labs. Dr. Dixon along with her TA's dedicate their weekends to assist you for success. Don't be rude take advantage of it. All major keys to success. Great class highly recommended.
Dr. Dixon is a fantastic teacher. Being there for her students 7 days out of the week. Not to mention, all her tests are based off the practice tests so study those hard. This is one of the most insanely difficult class there is, but Dixon tries her best to make it easy as possible. She genuinely cares about her students.
She knows her stuff, and her practice tests are what helped me pass. Go to open lab!! and work! I learned the best working with a study group because there's so much information to retain. And this class goes by really fast, so don't slack and stay focused. It's really back on you to learn everything and ask her if you have questions she'll help
I highly recommend taking BIOSC139 with Dixon!!!! She's awesome and has a great sense of humor!!! Not an easy A, you must be dedicated if you want to pass. Don't really need the book, she provides everything you need to know via powerpoint lectures. Definitely, go to open lab, it's extremely helpful for the lab portion of the test. Study hard!
AMAZING! This is a hard subject, you need to WORK! I spent 30-40hrswk at class, studying, and at open lab. Must attend open lab for an A. Can not skip any leclab to get a good grade. Lots of E.C. chances. She is HILARIOUS, so fun to be around. You must come out swinging from test 1, don't take it lightly, this needs to be top priority to get an A
Dixon is the best anatomy professor I could imagine. She is super dedicated by having open labs on Fri, Sat, and Sun afternoons, there are lots of TAs there and cadavers to work on. Great textbook and labs. It is a lot of work, but if you're interested in the subject, it will be somewhat enjoyable. She's not young but plenty spunky and interesting
Dixon is a good professor however she does not like student-athletes. Lectures are long and tests are very difficult. She wants you to be all in anatomy and nothing else. DO NOT Take THIS CLASS IN SEASON! Also take a light load in your schedule.
It's cliche to say that she makes learning anatomy fun, but she really does with all her mnemonics & stories to help you memorize things. Definitely utilize her open labs too, that saved me! It's definitely a lot of work and not an easy A, but if you stick to her PowerPoints, do the labs & go to open labs, you should be golden!
Dixon is one of the most knowledgable teachers I've had in my years at DVC. She knows just about everything on the subject of anatomy. I highly, highly recommend you have good time management skills because this class will take up a lot of your time. My only tiff is her scoring, both her aft and eve classes averaged D's by the end of the semester.
This class requires a good amount of studying, but you will learn a lot and even have a little fun. Study the practice tests and power points and you will do well. She gives you plenty of opportunity for extra credit. Attendance is important, but you can make up missed class during open lab (sat & sun). Great Teacher!!!
Very good teacher. She knows her stuff. It is a hard class but I have never learned as much in any class before. Definitely do the practice tests and learn the models in her class because they are on the tests. Go to open lab if possible.
This subject is already quite challenging and demanding, but, in my experience, she did nothing to make the class easier (if not just make it more difficult) . She tends to speed through the slides, often too quickly to write down half, if any, of what was on it. She leaves you to figure out the labs out on your own, using a difficult lab book.
Taking her class was a nightmare. Unless you are already well-educated on human anatomy this class will be hard. This professor in specific was awful. Everytime I asked her a question she often times would make me feel stupid for even asking. Teachers who do this are ridiculous and she is the reason I hate anatomy.
Dr. Dixon is the most dedicated professor I have had at DVC. Expect to put significant effort in if you want an A, that said - it is do-able, but you do have to know the material pretty much inside and out. You will get out of this class what you put into it. ATTEND OPEN LABS!
Dr. Dixon is by far my favorite professor I have ever taken. She expects a lot from her students and you must work very hard to obtain an A. GO TO WEEKEND OPEN LABS! She is a little intimidating at first but she wants you to succeed. If you dedicate yourself to the class you should do well.
I took this class in the summer. Dr. Dixon is a great professor and very dedicated. There was a lab practical and lecture exam every week. All multiple choice. About half the class had dropped by the end. Outlines what she expects of you from the first day. There's really no time to slack off. GO to open labs, and better get ready to memorize!
Dixon is a very serious professor who doesn't always watch how she talks to her students. She does have a tendency to talk down to people which can be very frustrating. Also she reads directly from her PowerPoint so it's alittle ridiculous that lec is mandatory. However she does give out practice tests that directly reflect her exams STUDY those!
This class is hard but Dr. Dixon makes it easier for students. For lec, do the practice test; make sure you understand why you choose the answer. Dont memorize the answer key coz she will change the question. Open lab and seewhyanatomy is helpful 4 lab test. Be prepared to spend lots of time memorizing bones, body parts. Tests r easy if you study.
Take Prof. Dixon. She is a solid and foundational choice for anatomy. She does an excellent job at going over practice tests and lab questions open labs fridays-sunday. Plenty of opportunities redeem lost points. Time, Repetition, and memorization are key.
I freaking loved Dr. Dixson!! Bio139 is not something you can just get by. You have to put in the time and the effort to pass. She posts old exams online so you have a guide of what is to come which will help you soooooo much. But you have to study her power points too bc she does change up the answers and one or two words on the questions.
Anatomy during a summer session is a ton of work so you'd better have your study skills dialed in. Prof Dixon's lab & lecture tests were tough but straight forward: Study here previous lecture tests and show up for Saturday open lab. Small gripes: too many 1 hr long videos, too much coloring, and I would have liked a little more lab guidance.
All power points from lecture are online however, she gets upset when people don't show up to lecture. Semester ended with roughly 12 people remaining in lab because she makes her tests impossible to pass. Class average on tests would regularly be a D. You have to try extremely hard to pass with this professor.
Dr. Dixon reads directly from her powerpoints and does NOT teach a thing. This was the worst college experience I have had with a professor so far. She is not helpful and does not care if you don't pass, and expects you to know what you're doing on your first day in lab. Terrible.
Dr. Dixon's class is the hardest class I have taken in college. She is a delight, kind of a spaz, but her class requires a lot of time and energy. All her powerpoints and old exams are online. She gives extra credit opprotunities for every single exam. And she hosts open lab almost every weekend. Get ready to lose your social life.
Dr. Dixon is incredibly knowledgeable and takes great pride in providing a rigorous anatomy class that will prepare students for nursing school. Open labs help. If she repeats herself, write it down. She will test you on it. Learn the models. Take advantage of the time she offers you. She is tough but fair.
Dixon relies on her powerpoints & speeds thru them in lecture. She just tells you that whatever on the back table is fair game for lab practicals, so you have to pretty much remember everything. She provides previous tests from other semesters as study guides but isnt all that helpful. But she does provide alot of extra credit. Be ready to work
Dr. Dixon is an AMAZING instructor, her knowledge is unbelievable. This was one of the toughest classes i have ever taken in MY LIFE!!! Be ready for sleepless nights and tough tests, plus heavy loads of homework. Lecture is heavy, a lot of material to memorize. Hence, this class requires A LOT of dedication it is NOT EASY! BEWARE.
Dr. Dixon is such an amazing professor. I took her class summer 2017, honestly I didn't know what I was putting myself into, but it was worth it. I passed her class with a B, definitely could've gotten an A, but that was on me! Dr. Dixon however is very helpful, she knows what she's talking about! I love her!! Take her class!!
Dixon is a hard teacher but that is good. She expects you to take her class seriously. If you do you will pass but you have to put in the work. I took it over the summer and it was a lot of fun. She posts her test online and if you do the practice tests and understand them you will get As on the test.
Im not going to lie, this class is hard. However, it's not impossible passing her class with an A or a B. It just depends on how much work you are willing to put it. She straightforward and you know exactly what's on her tests, if you do the practice test and come to open lab. Find a solid group of people to study with! She even recommends it.
If you actually want to LEARN anatomy and retain info for your future career DO NOT TAKE HER! She is rude and condescending w/ most students and disappears during lab. NO HELP! Mostly depended on the TA to actually teach me something. Her lecture is basically reading off power points & I really don't know how anyone can retain info like that. AVOID
Hard class but for anatomy she's the best person to be taking. She's always willing to help and she's very clear about everything. If you're there to do the work, you'll pass.
Dr. Dixon's class is hard, but there are also a lot of extra credits which really help you. She gives you practice tests which also help you a lot. Lab tests are hard, I have to agree. If you are in DVC and need to take Anatomy, please take her, you will have at least an B!!
Tips for an A: come prepared with lecture slides because she moves very fast, go to open lab, study models on seewhyanatomy website, and exams are almost identical to practice exams posted on Canvas so definitely memorize those. This is one of the hardest classes I've taken so far but if you put in the work and play her game you'll get through it!
Prof M. Dixon is an outstanding professor. If you want to learn and retain info for future science classes then take her. This is not an easy class especially for people who does not take it seriously. All information are basically provided and she is even available on weekends for open lab. If you pay attention you know what is on the test. simple
She has a lot of knowledge on the topic but needs to be a little nicer and would be better if she helped kids out more in lab!
She is the absolute worse! First class I ever had to drop because of her even though I literally went to all open labs and every class. (dropped out a month before semester was over so I know what I'm talking about) She isn't very nice either. Even my counselor said she should retire because her teaching style is very old school.
anatomy is HARD. You just need to put in the time with Dixon. She gives all the info you need to do great, has open labs on weekends to study (which she does not get paid to do, she just cares) at first she seems a little harsh but by the end everybody loved her! She's retiring soon, take advantage while you can! She's awesome!
Tests are 100 points lecture, 75 points lab. For lecture she gives practice tests that are 80% similar to the real thing. Lab is tougher but if you study the right stuff you will be fine. Everyone who stuck through the class got the grade they wanted. Started out with 42 students and had 13 after the drop date. Too many people gave up.
Do your work and you will pass for sure. Materials and practice test are available which can be viewed ahead of time . If you put an effort to her class you will get the grade that you want. Don't pay attention to negative comments on here. They are just bitter and lazy hence why they fail. One of the best Prof, it's sad she's retiring soon.
Open lab is pretty much required in order to get an A, I would recommend you try to go to AT LEAST one every weekend. She expects you to know all your info well and study every day. Do not fall behind, study everyday if you can. Always do two practice tests, and have her check them! I wish she was more approachable, she could be condescending.
This class was one the hardest classes ever, the material is SUPER HEAVY which means you wake up with human anatomy and go to bed with it. She is willing to help if you ask also make sure not to use PROFANITY or CHIT CHAT during class because she will call you out or ask you to leave. It's VERY IMPORTANT go to her open labs on weekends.
I think she is very rude and does not communicate well. She speaks in a very condescending tone when you ask questions. Not to mention that open lab is basically required to pass with an A. Uhm, hello?? Not everyone can do that. People have jobs and other responsibilities outside of the class. Ridiculous.
I've had the honor taking her last class before her retirement. Like most said, this was not a class to be goofing around with. Lectures were long, and open labs were a must. The lecture tests were fine, but the lab tests were hard! All in all, she was a great professor and I've enjoyed every bit of her class. She has a great sense of humor!
literally the worst/rudest professor out there. She literally said she doesnt give 100% no matter what, she also makes people feel dumb when you ask a question and her tests are hard
