I do not recommend taking this teacher at all. She claims to teach art appreciation but teaches art history instead! Gives four tests including the final exam. You only take notes about hundreds of different art pieces and are expected to know all of them for the 25 question exams that she gives. Not helpful when you have any inquires.
This class was great. Had for a wintermester. Just listen to the story of history and write it back down. Tests were simple. 4 tests are the only grades. I recommend.
Wouldn't recommend if you have absolutely no interest in art. It's good to go to class every day because each class goes over a large portion of notes that will be on each test. Very knowledgeable about the arts. Only 4 tests so if you not a test taker this may not be the class for you. I loved this class and would be happy to take her again.
Class is fairly easy however she gives you tons of useless information and wants you to write it down for the notes you have to turn it in before every test. She does not fully answer your questions you ask she just repeats what she had said and hope you understand the second time. Also this is more of an Art History class than Art Appreciation
Easy to make an A in the class, just write notes during lecture and don't miss any days cuz every day we went over a large amount of info that would be in on the tests. Only 4 tests a semester, lets you know what to highlight before each test as a review; easy to pass if you study, look forward to taking her again for 1302
Hard teacher and expects too much. I got a D in the class. Gives too much info on art pieces that is not necessary for test. Test consist of about 25-30 questions and has to be taken fast. Would not recommend unless you are a art major and are super interested in Art!
her class is easy but you must attend class every day because in each class we discuss a huge portion although most of what she talks about is useless. Take good notes in order to pass. She can be mean though if your late sometimes she wont open door but then again shes always late..
Not the best way to see history. Shes vary plain and talks in a mono tone vocie. No text book so if u pick here dont buy it. u got to go to every class, dont miss one. no notes, powerpoints, etc. on shared files. its all word of mouth. u have to keep up with her, so type or write fast, she never repeats n u never no whats on the test till test day.
Dr. Fielder is an excellent teacher. Had her for both history and art appreciation. She always reviews before tests. Highly recommend. She has a real gift for making the material come alive.
TOTAL LECTURE CLASS, SO YOU HAVE TO BE THERE FOR EVERY ONE. SHE TALKS PRETTY FAST BUT WILL REPEAT ANYTHING YOU ASK HER TO. REVIEWS THE DAY BEFORE A TEST, BUT YOUH AVE TO USE YOUR OWN NOTES AS A BASE. NOT NOTES OR POWERPOINTS ONLINE. JUST SHOW UP AND TAKE NOTES AND YOU SHOULD BE GOOD.
Her class is really easy, i would definitly take her again. You have to be in class everyday, because notes are not on shared files- everything is directly from her. She always gives exta credit on tests also. you will not need the book, and she is usually a few minutes late.
Good teacher, If you can take a lot of notes you will pass with an A. Sometimes the reviews dont mimic what your tested on but you will still do good. I would take her again.
Good teacher. You have to take a lot of notes but everything you learn, she explains in great detail. Very Smart and very fair. Going to class everyday is beneficial to your grade. If you build a rapport, she is more than willing to give letters of reccommendation,
WORST TEACHER!!! For our class she would NOT want to repeat anything, all of our grades are over test, gave extra credit once the whole semester. She seemed to have an attitude when asked to clarify. HATED this class!! I would not recommend her or take her for another class. Very disappointed :(
Great prof! Plenty of extra credit if you mess up on a test & drops worst test - every exam had 5 EC pts. EC papers, too. Easy if you study. Plan to take her history classes, too.
I took 2 weeks crash course, and yes yes her speaking was way too fast to keep up with even typing. Bringing your laptop is mandatory. Test was easy but attendance is mandatory..she can be very mean**ouch ouch
I actually enjoyed this teacher. She knew all the material very well, and made it easy to understand. However, she was a little rude outside of class. She prohibits talking during lecture, which i understand. if you take final, she drops the lowest grade. Recommended!
She is very rough as a whole, in her lectures, in her attitude, and in her willingness to help. You have no other grades then test. And her exams are very difficult she puts things that she didn't go over in class on her exams. However, when she posts her powerpoints for you to look at, they have very little to no writing under or with them.
Excellent professor! You would have to be very lazy not to pass. Lots of extra credit.
Worse class I've ever had. Seven exams, no extra credit, essay paper that is super confusing. Her presentation has over 100 slides for each test but only 35 questions on the test. You use the book once. Her class is harder for me than my calculus 3 class.
She is a great teacher, and a very nice person. Very understanding. Loved the class!
I'm sure she's a nice lady when she's not your professor. I hardly ever really struggle in school but this class kicked my butt. Jumps around too much when going over slides, way too many slides to memorize for a short 35 question test, too much of what she goes over isn't even on the test, and isn't understanding at all when it comes to attendance.
Great teacher. If you don't go to class, it's your fault. Everything is extremely well explained. If you can't pass this class, you're lazy
Fielder's passion for art is very positive, though her teaching is unfortunately not so much. The class is a jumble of slides with images that she talks about very inconsistently. What is expected in the class is vague and the exams consist of random information that she briefly mentioned in lecture.
Great professor! Best teacher I have had at TCC. She really knows her stuff. Very fair.
HORRIBLE. Despite reading the required material for tests, it still takes 2 hours to do the 35 QUESTIONS. She words all the questions with intent to confuse. A lot of the stuff your test is over, makes no sense in regards to the text book and your only class grades are tests so you better ace them. She gets frustrated when you email her, too.
Excellent online class. The course is well built and self-paced which I liked. Dr. Fielder actually answers email unlike so many other professors that i have taken. I'd like to take another class from her. Tests are untimed, too.
I LOVED this teacher. I took her for Art Appreciation online during the summer. She was SUPER nice and extremely helpful with all my questions. Make sure you read the book and pay attention to her instructions. The class was pretty easy in my opinion but I did have some questions along the way. As long as you do the work you'll pass! She's great!
Easy online class ever. All tests especially the final have all the answers online. I'm not good in art but yet i passed. Must take online I think its easier.
Very organized! Took this class in summer. She always replies to emails and is very sweet. The exams were easy too. I would recommend taking her online class.
Super easy online class. All tests and final aren't timed, so you have as long as you need to take it. No quizzes. Most of the answers to the tests are on Google. There are 4 tests and 4 discussion boards. I only did 2 discussion boards and still made an A. SUPER EASY A. I only really used my book twice.
took online! easy class! great teacher! lets you know when things are due sends helpful reminders!
great teacher! If you don't make an A then you are just lazy! She clearly states what she wants done and how she wants it done !!
You will get no surprises with Dr. Fielder. Great professor, very organized, and just overall awesome. Expectations for the class are clear and concise. Do the work, ask questions and you'll pass.
This lady is extremely rude. She changes test and discussion board dates on the syllabus and then gets mad if you email her about it, or anything for that manner! she gets way too frustrated in emails and basically argues with students. The class itself is easy but the attitude of the professor is horrible. I couldnt wait for this class to be over
Lectures are long, just write down everything said because anything can be on a test. She is very detailed, dont miss a day becasue she does not use a book all test are from her lectures. 6 test worth 103 points each, she drops the lowest grade, all slide shows. As long as you show up and listen and take notes it is an easy A.
Took online. A very well planned course. Loved this professor. So sweet, and responded to all of my emails. Wish all online classes were taught by teachers as good and as nice as she is. People below who said she is rude are just liars, and must not like the grade they earned. She answers all questions unlike so many professors.
This class was well worth it.
Message boards & response to fellow students 250 words each. Four exams & a short paper. Sometimes provides feedback but not much/not often. DO NOT give her excuses, if you encounter technical problems contact tech support/make efforts to fix it and she'll be more understanding. Art is not my subject by any means, get old edition of book not newest
Ugh. So happy to be done with this class! I would recommend taking a different professor for ART 1303. Confusion over textbook, questions on quiz not covered in assigned reading, changed due dates, confusing website, boring videos and powerpoints, etc. Did I mention I am so glad to be done with this class?
Dr. Fielder is disorganized and not clear in her expectations. This was an easy course, but confusing. A lot of reading and only 4 exams, but the chapters don't match the exams. Also, there are discussion board assignments for every unit that are not on her syllabus. She grades easy if you do the work, but you're on your own with the assignments.
Easy class but a bit tedious. 4 exams (including final) all multiple choice. Didn't get the book or access code and passed with an A. 3 DB posts (going to the museum for a picture next to a painting, and one paper) very easy assignment but she grades a bit hard. other than that, it was SUCH an easy a class. Definitely take her!
Very unorganized. Late all the time. Lectures jumped all over the place and was not prepared for class. Lesson's very unclear. Not an easy enjoyable class as I expected. Test are often and unscheduled. This class messed up my perfect GPA!!!
A really nice lady who knows her stuff. Fantastic teacher. Take notes, study, and you'll make an A. Super easy tests.
Most boring class ever. Nice lady but could hardly stay awake.
Ms. Fielder was fantastic! She would help us during our tests!!! I made an A because of her help. She really cared about us.
Pretty chill class, but you have to show up to understand the material. Lots of memorizing. Chill professor though!
Dr. Fielder was so prompt at responding to all of my emails and questions. Such a sweet lady. She was always there to help. I really learned a lot in this class. Be sure to keep pace in the course.
DO NOT take this class online. She may be great in-person but her online class is so disorganized and made no effort to adjust her material for online students. There isn't enough work either, so if you bomb something it's going to affect your grade big time. I'm a straight A student and this class messed up my GPA. And NO extra credit.
This course was a breeze. The tests are all open book. We had four tests, several discussion boards, a paper, and weekly quizzes. Could not have been easier. You don't need extra credit because the tests are open book. Dr. Fielder was very nice to work with. Class was perfectly laid out. Lots of emails reminding us to complete assignments.
I took Art History with Dr. Fielder online and it was a DISASTER. She is so disorganized and I'm not sure she's very good with computers. Our last unit she never even posted it and she clearly didn't take the time to adapt the class for an online format. She also sends rude emails to the whole class! Worst online experience I've ever had.
This class was super easy! Dr. Fielder was very nice, and sent reminders when assignments were due. If you do your work, and submit it on time, it's an A.
Loved this class and Dr. Fielder. This was an easy A. Don't understand what the person was talking about saying she sent out rude emails. Dr. Fielder reminded us when assignments were due. I appreciated that. All of our four units were open. There were people who had problems with Proctorio-which you would contact IT about.
Dr. Fielder was always very helpful, and replied to my emails - unlike a lot of other professors. Took her art appreciation class online. Found it to be well paced. She sends out reminders. Do take due dates seriously. Hate to say it but this class turned out to be fun!
She was pretty okay. With the online class, even though she was a little disorganized and the steps were a little unclear, she was always an email away and will answer all questions. She was easy to communicate with, and overall, the class was easy. We were allowed to take the tests twice. And, the discussion boards weren't so heavy.
Dr. Fielder was sooooo nice to work with. Wish I could take her again. Responded to all of my emails and questions. I would highly recommend. Don't get the comment about being disorganized. She was highly organized. Read the emails each week, and in week one, click on the tab that says Start Here. Each week's lessons were perfectly laid out for us.
Tests are open note so it's not bad. Quizzes are easy. However she is very unorganized. It seems like this was a poorly adopted online class. Several due dates on the syllabus and announcements didn't match when the assignments were actually due. Not a difficult class but frustrating professor.
Dr. Fielder responded to all of my emails very quickly. She was always there to help. If you don't read the emails and announcement, then that is your problem. Dates changed when TCC added an extra week of spring break. If you wait until the end, if you procrastinate, then that is your fault. Keep pace, do your work, and you'll make an A.
The only thing that helped me learn and get through this class was the group me and my class mates created to help each other learn since she would never reply to our emails when we would reach out to her. I would not recommend this class to anyone even if they just want a passing grade. This class was the most stressful class ever since it was so
Terrible Terrible professor. 4 unit test with about 5 chapters of reading each having about 20 pages each. Test ARE proctor. U have one chance on the test Just one!! NO EXTRA CREDIT WHAT SO EVER. This lady needs a new profession because its clear she hates her job. I failed this class and I literally did everything i could to pass.
Four tests, four disc boards, and one paper. Easy - if you study. Some tests you could take twice. Most of the students in my class did not even have the book because they simply wanted to look up answers on their phone. TCC requires the use of Proctorio which lazy students resent. Dr. Fielder is super nice, and always answered my questions.
Okay here's a simple rundown. The class was an easy A, just take the tests and quizzes and complete the paper. However, the communication was off and she could be rude at times. She never changes grades and there is no extra credit. Passing was easy, the experience wasn't the best.
She is the personification of the year 2020. She has that "you signed up for this" type of attitude. Took this as a wintermester. So maybe it's just me... but I would never want to be her student again. Unneeded stress because of this class. She wants you to be on top of things, yet she has already made mistakes herself.
If you don't want to work, don't take a minimester. It goes by fast, and yes, you did sign up for it. Dr. Fielder was kind enough to send reminders. She responded to all of my emails. Could not have had a better teacher, and a nice person. If you are lazy and expect to turn things in late, take another class.
Errors on the syllabus, discussion board posted late and unclear grading criteria(s). The lack of professionalism, punctuality and directness was astounding.
Needed to get in three more hours over the winter break so I could graduate in May. This class was perfect. Dr. Fielder was very nice. Everything was perfectly laid out for us to do. You could work ahead if you wished to do so, but you didn't have to. Definitely need the book. All discussion boards were open on time as were the tests.
This teacher was very kind, however it wasn't organized well and the due dates were not accurate and posted late. It was supposed to be on the dashboard, but it was through announcement messages. It was a lot of work and I couldn't keep up with my other courses and taking this one. I wish I didn't have to drop it because I enjoy art.
She seems nice enough, but she very clearly has no understanding of how canvas works. Assignments are posted multiple times and with incorrect due dates. The grade log on canvas is also a disaster that deviates entirely from the syllabus. All that being said, the coursework itself is quite easy and she is not a tough grader. Take at your own risk.
Dr. Fielder was GREAT! So nice. Took her course over Wintermester. Read announcements and keep up with dates. She sends reminders. Just loved her and actually enjoyed the class. Got 3 hours over the break. Could have made an A if I had studied a little more. She was super!
She is very unorganized and terrible at time management. I guess she forgot that the semester was almost over because she's cramming 7 chapters into one week at the end. She is of no help at all and only assigns work from a different professor's syllabus. Unresponsive to emails. AVOID this professor.
The art department has now adopted a program where all the art appreciation courses use the same course. So for people who are complaining get your facts straight. Dr. Fielder responded to all emails and was very nice to work with. If you want a face to face class, then go take that.
Ms. Fielder, Great professor, completely understanding and the coursework was awesome.
Ms. Fielder is a great teacher! While the tests and quizzes are proctored, the materials on the tests are easy enough that if you did your reading, you will easily pass. She also assigns writing assignments and discussions. Overall, the class was a very light load, and works well with someone who has a full schedule aside part-time courses at TCC.
She is very disorganized, and have multiple chapter quizzes in a week which are proctored. She is not great at responding to her emails, she sounds careless when she does respond. Not very helpful when it comes to technical issues with the online textbook and still expects us to do the chapter quizzes when the textbook is down.
Dr. Fielder is a great teacher. She always responded in a timely manner to my emails. Don't know what the person meant by disorganized. On the contrary she is highly organized. ARTS 1301 uses a required course that is not developed by individual instructors. Also, it is school policy that the tests are proctored.
The teacher is awesome and the best teacher the assignments are so much easy in this class.
the easiest class i've ever taken. no homework, she just shows the specific piece of art on a power point and talks about it. she will say whats on the test, and if you don't show up she does a review day before the test and just speed runs through the power points. you could literally only show up to that class and do well on the test.
Just finished this class & I still don't know what my actual grade is. Taken as 8 week course, first 2 weeks there were 0 assignments b/c she had another teachers info up & had all work unreleased. Long response time to emails w/no help. Proctored quizzes, that's all the work I've done with a weight of 20%. Complete mess of an online class. Avoid!
Dr. Fielder is a great professor, and easily accessible by email. She grades very easily. I enjoyed the course, and the museum trip.
She was great! Very understanding and caring. I wish I could take more classes with Dr. Fielder.Actually enjoyed the class, and picked up three more hours after wintermester.
Dr.Fielder responded to all of my emails. She was as nice as could be. The ARTS 1301 class is no longer designed by individual professors. They are required to use a certain course developed by one of their faculty. So don't be blaming her for uploading assignments. They are already on there. Read the Announcements and syllabus.
I was part of a dual credit high school class. Some students claimed that they did not know that they were in the course. I did, and completed all work on time. Dr. Fielder was very kind to reopen ALL assignments over the week of Thanksgiving to allow students who had not done anything to complete the work. That was nice.
Professor Fielder had expressed an attitude at the beginning of the online semester. Whenever you send her emails, she will respond in either a passive-aggressive tone or strict manner. She will put the blame on you for not knowing how well you did during the semester. Go find another Art Appreciations professor.
Dr. Fielder is great. You can see what your current grade is in Canvas at all times. She responds to my emails very quickly. Very nice and easy going. If I had studied more, I would have made an A. She's an easy grader.
Lots of reading and 4-5 exams. just make sure to study.had to write research paper on two different art pieces. Make sure to participate in discussion boards.
She wasn't prepared for the class as she had many things not filled out on Canvas. She only puts dates on items about 2-3 weeks prior and would not update them or grade them in a timely manner. Near the end of the class, she stopped updating the modules and added 8 quizzes in 1 week. She responds quickly, but not in a helpful or friendly way.
Dr. Fielder was prepared from day one. Assignment dates are on the syllabus. Instructors do not create the courses or assignments. They are allowed to to choose which assignments to give. Each week there is an announcement stating the due dates for upcoming assignments. There were not 8 extra quizzes added at the end. The professor was nice.
