Class is easy if you pay attention, and you are witty. You don't need to read everything, but you should have an idea on what is going on. Participation counts in the class. Good Teacher.
The class itself sucks because of the papers, but kuhlman makes it easy with her lackadasical attitude
Cool teacher...very easy. You can get away from reading those boring book and have a good grade on the paper.
nice teacher, pretty laid back. having a general understanding of the readings will get you a good grade-and participation
Her voice is monotonous, but doen't grade hard. Class material is very boring. Fell asleep several times.
class is really boring, but shes a very easy grader. you dont have to read the books to pass her class, just pay attention in class...laid back lady, cool attitude...i recommend her, shes easy
She is a good teacher will do anything to she you pass. grades easy.
The class is easy enough if you read, and can figure her out. Everything she says is phrased in the form of a question and she is very monotonous. I don't see any basis behind her grading. You are expected to read a lot and participate even more in class.
kuhlman is a pretty good professor ... if you have an idea of the stuff and pay attention in this class, it's pretty hard to get less than a b
If you have this teacher, you are lucky. Very approachable, and she is not too demanding.
VERY BORING, AND TOUGH ON GRADING PAPERS. MONOTONE VOICE. BUT VERY INTO THE CLASS. NICE LADY
MARTHA SUCKS!!!! she answers evry question with a question and is confusing as hell. she assigns 200 pgs to be read the same day the 5 pg papers are due and her class is the most boring thing ever. she is a wicked hard grader....basically you're gonna dread going to her class if u take it!!
She's a nice lady and grades fairly. Meaning, if you're a slacker who doesn't know what a paragraph is, don't expect an A. The one page papers are kind of annoying, but every ecs class has them. It's not her problem the books suck. Participation in class is a big thing to her and I hate it.
shes a pretty easy grader, except class participation. you need to talk ALOT or else you'll get a C. if you work really hard on your 5 page papers, she will give you a good grade. little tougher on the one page ones, but still pretty easy..i say take her, especially if you dont like to read alot.
I worked my ass of in this class and only got a B! I spent hours writing long papers about stupid Czech authors only to receive C's. She gives pop quizzes on the 100 pages she assigns for daily reading. Also, bring a pencil to stab yourself in the eye because this lady is so boring. Dont take her.
Okay, seriously, I got A's on every single one of the assignments and she still gives me an A- because I "don't participate enough." lolololol. Give me a break.
Taking her class will definitely help your analytical skills. Grade is based almost entirely on essays-two 5-pg (one re-write)and several one pagers... good teacher.
Great teacher, take her.
The class itself was quite boring, but I learned alot about a different part of the world. She's really not too hard on grading the quizzes, but the papers are a different story. Just try to say something once a week. She's really helpful too, talk to her if you have issues.
Classes themselves are boring but the class a sa whole is no that difficult. Generally, she's a nice lady, not too demanding and is a relatively easy grader. My only problem with her is that she assigns a lot of reading. However, I do recommend taking this class.
OK she is simply THE most boring teacher I've ever had in my LIFE. I just can't go to class and sit there all class long cause the sound of her voice just knocks me right into sleep. Still, she is not a bad person...talk to her and let her know what u think of the material and she will like u..
She is a nice lady, shes not too hard of a grader. Class does get kind of boring but so do all english classes. I'm glad I took her this semester.
bad!!! DO NOT TAKE HER!! i got good grades, but she is not fair at all. she registered a girl in my class for an enhanced class even though she had all a's and b's. AND WE TOOK HONORS. she's so boring and hates you if you dont talk. i'm just lucky i'm not shy.
try to avoid. extremely hard grader on papers and is BRUTAL on class participation, which can bring down your grade a ton in this class. she acts all nice and everything but unless you raise your hand 5000 times per class, she hates you.
worst most boring class ever.. i work at the writing center and still got B's on papers.. hardest grader ever and the class was a waste of my life
Martha is a cutie!
I love Martha, I don't work at the writing center and got A's and B's. Adorable woman
She is a good professor. She wants her students to succeed, however she can be very critical with her grading style. You must know the books better than the author to get an above average grade. 2 five pagers, and a few single pagers. Your 5 pagers MUST go into extreme detail with LOTS of textual evidence. You MUST read the books!
Tough grader.
really tough grader, but an interesting professor. She's pretty cool outside of class, but the assignments really suck
Not the most exciting class I've sat through, but the papers weren't too difficult and there are only a few pop quizzes. Even if you don't have much to say, raise your hand; she's a tough grader when it comes to participation, and as long as you contribute something, she'll love it.
She is nice, but a very hard grader. Don't take it unless you are a good writter.
Nice lady, but extremly hard grader, changed our final from a paper to a cumaltive final (we had no tests all semester) about a month before final. lots of reading, only take if you have no other choice
Professor Kuhlman is a great teacher. Her lectures can get a little boring and she does grade a little bit tought, but overall she is worth taking. Want an A? Just read the books and don't wait until the last minute for your papers. The more work you put into your papers the better grade you will get. Participate a LOT in class and that will help.
Average teacher, tough grader. Ive had worse. If you take Kuhlman, be prepared to write like a professional. Hard expectations, but they are clear, and somewhat expected. This is college, not hs. If you take her, it is not the worst thing. She is a good teacher.
I liked Prof. Kuhlman a lot. The class is not easy, but if you put in a little effort, speak up in class as much as possible, and maybe even go a little above and beyond by doing extra credit and bringing in outside articles (as crazy as this may sound), you will likely enjoy the class and not get lower than a B+. Highly recommended!

I wouldnt recommend taking Kuhlman's class because she is so good looking that it becomes quite distracting.

She is not a very easy professor. I wrote amazing essays and was one of the few people that contributed in class, and I barely scraped away an A for the class. Don't take her if possible. She's a nice person and class isn't always that boring, but she is a hard grader. She gives out very few As. You'll need to work hard in this class.
Easy teacher, learned alot, pulled out an A. Just soend time on your essays!
Helpful nice teacher, but it is impossible to get an A in this class.
Do Not take Martha Kulman if you do not like English. There is a lot of reading to do. She choses the worst books to read. And has a final exam as well as opposed to some of the other LCS 121 teachers who do not give finals. The worst part about it is that her exam is cumalative. Every 2nd class is a POP up QUIZ. ENJOY
Martha Kuhlman is great, she is incredibly helpful. You can tell she loves what she teaches and if you go to her for office hours to review your papers it almost guarantees an A!Final test is simply stuff taken from notes during class. I got an A by somewhat paying attention and going to her office hours for my papers!
Extremely helpful and approachable. She encourages student input for class assignments and lets you help dictate the structure of the course so that it is enjoyable and valuable to you. The course demands hard work, but that is what college is about! You work hard but you get a lot out of it. She is a great professor and I definitely recommend her
Her assignments are interesting for the most part and relevant to other courses. Doesn't assign too much at one time, gives good amount of time in between assigned papers. She has a very thorough syllabus, and is always welcoming students to her office hours. Participation is a good part of your grade, expect some sort of quiz once a week.
Pretty good teacher, nothing special but pretty good.
Tough grader but fair because of how straightforward she is in class.
Absolute Babe
I thought Professor Kuhlman was an excellent teacher. I like to write, so she was the perfect teacher for me. Participation is such a huge part of your grade, so as long as you raise your hand and talk a lot, she will like you, and you are bound to get a good grade. Fair and square grader. I recommend her if you like to write.
She was a very good teacher. Wants students to succeed. As long as you keep up with the reading, participate, and write decent essay you will do well.
Not your "Easy A" teacher, prepare for some effort. But as long as you show interest, MK will ensure your success. She is always available to discuss paper drafts, and her corrections will most likely get you top grades (if you do your best to incorporate them). Interesting class & if you're into literature this is the teacher I would go for.
The Honors course was not that hard. There were four books that we read, but two were graphic novels. There are no tests only papers. If you go to her office with a rough draft she will read it and guide you in the right direction. Do this and you'll get a good grade on the papers!
Ms. Kuhlman is an amazing professor. I had her for my literary and cultural studies class, and I was in an honors section. She definitely makes us work for the grade. She makes the class fun, and all the students are heavily involved. She's one of the best people I have ever met, and my favorite professor.
She's pretty good. Stay true to her rubrics and you'll get a good grade. She's a little bit unique, she has a different take on things than what you'd expect, especially when it comes to interpreting texts. Overall, she's really nice and the class isn't that hard at all. If you're looking for an LCS teacher, she would be a pretty good choice.
She is a very fair grader and is willing to work with you. There are no tests just papers which is good since you can meet with her to discuss them when you need to. There was no textbook but you did need to get a few novels which was fine since you can rent them all from the bookstore.
Kuhlman is a great professor. There are occasional pop quizzes and 4 essays. If you ask her for help and go to her office hours, she is very helpful and helps lead you to what to write on your papers. Just go to office hours and get help with papers and you'll do well... and READ! It's important. I hate reading but the class wasn't hard at all.
you need to attend class and read everything she tells you to read for class. Her final is cumulative so you have to remember EVERYTHING we did in class. Most other professors just give an essay, but she gives an actual exam that's kinda long.
Kuhlman is a decent professor. She is very smart and has good insight but her class can be dry. You tend to do the same thing every class.
Very nice woman, but I wish her grading made more sense. Never really understood why i got the grades i got. you tend to do the same things every class. shes a nice lady and can be funny sometimes but class is a little dry. i do like her as a person but can be intimidating occasionally
Every class has the same format for the most part, which can get to be pretty repetitive. Your grade is primarily based on four papers and an occasional pop quiz on that day's reading. She's a nice teacher but is kind of quirky. I would highly recommend using ACE for your papers.
Kuhlman cares a lot about students and tries to make the course more enjoyable. Despite her efforts, the classes are pretty boring, but you almost never have to do the homework she assigns. Your grade is mostly papers, so put decent effort into rough drafts because she will give helpful feedback.
Professor Kuhlman genuinely cares for her students and it shows with her teaching. The material not only emphasizes writing techniques, but also encourages students to think deeply and creatively about subjects. Each class starts with an ice breaker and will include at least one discussion. Theres a few papers but feedback is given on drafts.
Classes are not related to projects at all. Lots of projects & essays. However, makes them manageable by providing feedback on mandatory drafts.
very sweet professor. she begins each class with a question for everyone to answer. lectures are entertaining and she makes her class fun. she is a pretty tough grader on papers so try to put as much effort in as you can since she gives you a decent amount of time to work on it. but she does peer reviews & leaves comments to improve final draft
I loved her, very interesting to listen to. Interesting assignments. A lot of papers, obviously, but gives a lot of feedback and peer reviews, so it's not hard to get a good grade. Asks you to buy textbook, but we never used it. Easy final exam, do have to attend gateway sessions and write reflections, but they aren't hard.
Professor Kuhlman makes a class that would scare a lot of people easy to navigate and excel in. There are quite a few papers, but her flexible office hours and consistent feedback make it clear that she wants her students to succeed. Show up to class, put in some effort, go to the gateway sessions, and you'll be more than fine.
She is definitely passionate about English; however, I was not a fan of her teaching style. She did include a wide variety of topics and interactive things, but I felt like she was only looking for her opinion when she asked the class a question. Never really let us out of class early so classes felt super long, but she is a very nice person.
She is very caring of her students and is flexible with her teaching style. Essays are almost an easy A because she and several other classmates review your rough draft. If you show up to class, do the assignments, and just pay a little attention you will get a good grade.
I took Prof. Kuhlman for studies in international literature. She focuses heavily on Czechoslovakia, so if you're not interested in that then the class could be a bit boring. She assigns a book a week, with little exception. There are reading quizzes every class, so you have to have a basic understanding of the material. Exams aren't too hard.
There are papers due every few weeks but they build off of each other so you can use a lot of the same sources. The classes are pretty average where we'll go over things that relate to our papers most of the time. We also do peer reviews on everything so it's hard to do that bad on anything.
Average college professor who cares about her students. A good amount of writing but gives plenty of time to do the work. Class can be a bit boring but definitely not too hard of a class at all.
Professor kuhlman looooves to talk about herself. We did more reading than writing in this class and did a lot of in class activities that were boring and uneccesary. She never lets you out early so be ready to be there the whole time, even of there is nothing left to do. Overall she is a nice woman but the class is a drag.
Class drags on and can be boring at times. You do have a lot of time for papers and she will give you feedback on your paper a week before it's actually do so you have plenty of time to fix things. She's a nice lady the class was just boring.
Not a huge fan of Specs grading but Kuhlman makes the class interesting by teaching you how to draw like a comic book artist. 7 textbooks can be a lot but they are "alternative" comics that are interesting to look over. Makes you do a presentation on an author and the final project was fun to do even though it took me a long time to complete
A very work-heavy course. Assignments are just about every class. Attendance is graded. Lots of busy work that pertains to the topic. She is a very kind and understanding teacher, always willing to help out and adjust due dates. She works well with students but expect a heavy workload.
Assignments are extremely confusing, will take points off for almost any minor mistake. Don't recommend at all.
None of her grading criteria is clear and she essentially makes it up as she goes. Several assignments don't even have a rubric despite making up a decent percent of your grade which means you're essentially graded on her opinion alone. Only wants to hear what she thinks is the right answer and keeps us later than the class hours frequently.
terrible. how can you be so passionate about graphic narrative at a business school. Tough grader for sure. stay away for your own safety.
Professor Kuhlman lacks the ability to provide clear instruction on her assignments. She grades based on artistic ability rather than effort (effort is how she says she grades). There is a lot of homework in her course, and sometimes she is disrespectful to students. Also, she sometimes expects you to complete work before it is officially due.
Not sure why she has so many bad reviews, this was one of my favorite classes! I took it to fulfill my LCS requirement but ended up loving it. Prof. Kuhlman made it fun and informative with great comic selections and creative activities. If you participate and put in effort, you'll do great. Lots of books, but she's working on that!
She lies everyday. Said that she graded on effort but really she graded on your actual art. She thought that we should be the best artest in the world.
Professor Kuhlman was a good professor but there is a lot of homework, for visual arts you'll have to do 1-2 readings a week and visual notes that correspond to the readings. No midterm, 3 projects, and no other tests or quizzes.
