says she doesn't curve but does-class is hard but educational-be prepared to wor
The course is tough, but she teaches it well
She goes over notes but you have to read in order to do well on her tests. If you take her, besides going to class, SI sessions and doing the reviews for her test that she gives but you should buy the study guide and use that to study for the tests
She is not my teacher but she subtitued for my teacher last week. I could not understand a word she says.Talks way to fast and doesn't explain anything in detail. If I had her for my teacher I would be extremely lost in Biology.
This is one of those people who understand what they are leaturing about-but doesn't know how to explain it to the students. She gets frustrated when they don't understand. She needs to be in a research facility not in a classroom.
If you love Biology you will learn a lot from her. Her test can be tricky and you really have to think. If you are looking for an easy A don't take her. If you are majoring in Biology and really like the subject she is the only way to go.
This class was one of the hardest classes I ever took. If you want a good grade... do not take her. Her tests are extremely hard even if you read the chapters 2 or 3 times. You learn a lot but it does not pay off in your grade.
A real ****!
Do not take her!! Very difficult, she covers at least on chap per day, sometimes more (keep in mind how big the book is and chaps are >30 pages) Tests are tricky and difficult. She does give a big curve at the end, I calculated a D, but I got a B!!

She is awesome! People who fail her class just don't study! I made an A on her first test, and I don't think I studied as hard as I should have. It's a lot of material, but that's not her fault. She's just trying to prepare you for later sciences.Take her
She's hard if you don't read or study the lecture. So for those non bio majors, take bio in the spring because fall bio are for bio majors and spring is for those non bio majors.
Hard but fair...Be prepared to work but prepares you for many other classes.
She is extremely hard! A huge surprise to me. I studied 4 days straight along with all of the other studying I do regularly and I still made a C on her first test!!!!! I'm used to making straight A's and suddenly I'm making C's? She's impossible!
She's a great teacher,I recommend her if you are a biology mayor, the material is hard, but actually you learn a lot with her.
Great class, very hard, but who said college was easy?
She's a very good teacher, the material is obviously super hard, but you actually learn a lot. I recommend her only for bio majors.
Very, Very Hard
Dr. Lundel is a extremely hard teacher, but you learn a lot in her class. As long as you read the book pretty well and pay attention to lectures you should be able to pull a B. Highly recommend her if you are wanting to pursue a career in Biology
Lundell had good intentions, it just all seemed STRAIGHT from the book. No added interest, like we might as well have been taught by a robot. The lectures were boring & most of the time the tests(which are reworded over & over again from past exams & study quest) had a few trick questions on them :/
She was a very good professor...very professional and thourough. Made an A in her class, Only made one B on one exam and I had been out of high school for 6 years before I decided to come back to school. A+ professor
i didnt like her
She is a very hard professor, but her lectures are very helpful when it's time for the tests. I like how she does a little review after class for the test. Great class and professor, but she is hard for non-bio majors. I'm a bio major so I was glad I had her because I learned a lot.
very boring. not a good communicator. must pound a bottle of no-doze before class.
Do not be fooled...this class is extremely hard. Although she curves heavily, her test are not straight forward, her lectures are dry and stale, making it hard to focus for the hour and 15 mins. Her SI didn't help one bit, and on top of everything BIO 1 has the highest drop out rate. So think twice about taking her.
Very hard class.....professor gives a curve but test are very hard .... i got a C in the class but becuase i killed myself studying after failing the first test....no grades dropped and must go to class to take notes......good luck choose another professor
I got an A in the class but you have to work for the grade. I didn't find attending classes very helpful (but had to b/c of i-clickers) because it is a lot of info given to you at one time and you have to read all the chapters anyway. She DID curve and depending on the class some curves were slight A = 86-100% and some were like an A = 80-100%.
She was a real good teacher. I took her last semester. We used our clickers every class period, but they really healped me learn. And she also had really good slideshows that she would explain very well. The only drawback is that you really need to study to make a B or A. However, she does give really nice curves.
super hard! TAKE RODRIGUEZ for genetics! she goes over pwrpts really fast. tests are terrible! she does curve tests and gives x-tra credit for iClicker questions. read the book and do the homework if u want to do well on tests!
her tests are hard!!! she explains off every figure in the chapter. As long as you study tons you'll be able to pass. she has a large curve, which is definitely needed.
This was a hard class. She flies through the slides so if you dont have a laptop you cant possibly write notes fast enough. The curves were nice and the i-clicker did help. If this were the ONLY class I had this semester I probably would have gotten an A. Its alot of info! Be ready to study!
come to class for the extra credit I-clicker questions. Do the assigned homework and read the chapters. Her tests are hard but there is a curve and without too much effort I got an A by reading the chapters the night before and doing all the homework.
She was a great teacher, she had huge curves and bonus points that are added at the end of the semester using an I-Clicker! She's very interesting and funny. I'd take her again!!
great teacher
she's really witty, and she is fun. Her test are pretty difficult, but that biology. You must read each chapter at least twice. Be ready to go trhough at least three spirals of notes. All around this is a great bio 1 teacher!
attending class is helpful, and i-clicker use is nice bc it clarifies confusing topics and also gives extra points and the end of the semester. she seems nice but her class/tests are hard, her online study guides and practice tests are very helpful, must read book.
I went to class only on quiz and test days. My friend took my iclkr for me. I made a C without doing anything but the bare minimum. If you want an A or a B it is TOTALLY possible if you are willing to study and put in the time and effort
She is a very nice professor and deffinately knows a ton about biology! she tends to get really into her lectures and uses the iclickers for extra points at the end. Her tests are very hard but she always puts a curve on them. The final is cumulative which makes it even worse. Deffinatly not and easy A! But if you REALY want it you can get it
I was in her Genetics class, and she was a good professor. iClicker bonus points are nice, and with any kind of work ethic her tests aren't all that bad. I would study maybe 1-2 hours for a test and read the chapter twice and got an A or B on the tests. The online homework is helpful as well.
This class was very difficult. I dont really like Biology very much either. The tests gets harder throughout the semester and I recommend reading the text book and going to SI sessions, its hard to understand her.
nice and humorous professor. you MUST read & STUDY a great deal for an A... hell even a B. She allows for extra credit using in class questions & clicker. there are four test and nothing more. She curves almost every test. going to class is not mandatory but SUGGESTED. comparable to math class you miss one lesson it will be difficult to catch up.
This is a very difficuly class. If you are not interested in Biology do not take it. You should read the chapters before you get to the class and you might want to sit in the front because it is very easy to get distracted. Lundell is a veryu fast paced teacher. GO T0 CLASS! TAKE N0TES! STUDY STUDY STUDY!
Knows the material VERY well, curves every exam (a good majority of the class would fail without it), has a lot of self-control (you wouldn't believe the disrespect she gets every week from the lazier kids), no extra credit, goes through the concepts of every chapter very fast, but supposedly one of the better BioScience I teachers. Do not slack.
Do NOT take her unless you want to study intensively. You have to keep up with the material from day 1. She goes through the material VERY fast and you will need to read and study everything she says and just about everything in the book. She talks to you as if you were to already know the material and I didn't think she explained things very well.
She really knows her stuff. As long as you read and learn the material ((which you SHOULD if you want to be a Bio major!)) you will be fine. Definately will get rid of those who think they are ready to major in this field. I'd absolutely take her again.
this class was soo hard. Lundell was hard to follow and she flew threw her lectures and test were extremely hard. she was not the most approachable of professors
I liked this professor, she had iclicker questions that really helped you remember important things for the tests. And she curves every test, like the last test we had, 50 to 64 was a C, thats crazy, you only needed to know half the questions to get a C. She's very generous
Prof Lundell was pretty challenging i regret now paying attention in class. I studied minimally and took the tests and managed b's and a's on all because of the amazing curve! I did go to her office several times and if you go shes VERY HELPFUL and if she knows you want to learn she goes out of her way to make sure you get an A
She blazes through the course material and the iClicker questions. I had a very hard time keeping up with taking notes. It's a very merciless course and the teacher, while very knowledgeable, doesn't make it much easier.
Lundell is a Badass. She is very witty. Like any other BIO 1 course, there is a lot of reading and studying. I managed a B. Her curves are amazing. I hated the clicker questions, because you have to come to class for them. Recitation was great because it gave you a boost with easy points. I would def. take her again.
Lundell is a good teacher. She is very witty. Like any other BIO 1 course, there is a lot of reading and studying. I managed a B. Her curves are amazing. Lundell is a great teacher! moves very quickly so better read before class! Tests werent so bad. Recitation sucked! But really enjoyed this class. I didnt study almost at all, just read most of the info and you will be fine! she is a bit sarcastic but..Take her she is great.. promise!
I loved this class. Not an easy A -I worked hard for it but i learned alot. Take her if you can, take advantage of the companion book website where you can quiz yourself and the quizzes in the back of each chapter. Recitation helped me see what topics i needed to work on that i may have underestimated.
she is very fast paced and teaches straight from the text. read the BOOOK or else youll do poorly on tests and clicker questions. her curves are what saved my a$s but i def would rec. her to any science major. recitation sucked but you have to go to pass the class. i went half the time made a c... no regrets here but i could have just gotten lucky
Although I started off disliking Lundell, I really came to realize that she is a great professor. She blazes through notes like you should know everything she is talking about. Her notes are not too helpful considering they are straight from the book. Curves are huge and help a lot. I pulled a B and had to study quite a bit.
Professor Lundell is a great genetics teacher. She moves at a quick pace, but it isn't anything that is unbearable. You should read the chapter before it's lectured over as suggested. She is upfront about her expectations for the class and they aren't unreasonable. The tests aren't ridiculously hard, and she curves to an 80 = A.
Dr. Lundell is a great professor! You do have to keep up with her as she lectures, and there is a lot of material to cover. She doesn't have an office hour, but you can set up a time with her, and she's really helpful and kind! I definitely recommend her!
Prof. Lundell is a good prof. reall knows her stuff, but she expects you to read ahead. Tests are very hard but she gives curves. I am a good student and was so happy when I got a C so I didn't have to take the class again. She speeds through the material, but has test review classes before the exam to ask her questions. Tough but learned alot
YOU MUST READ THE BOOK! Always come to class, always read before hand and take good notes! This is a weed out class and you will fall behind quickly if you don't keep up with the material. She is a good teacher, but really tough, you have to work for this one!
She's a good teacher, she goes through the text a bit too fast and if you don't keep up you won't do well in the class. people have said that she curves tests but I've taken 2 tests and she hasn't given us a curve so i don't know.
She's tough but if you are a student who will put forth the effort, you should do fine. She knows her stuff. READ the book, know the book. Her tests are not too bad, tough but very do-able if you READ THE BOOK.
Dr. Lundell is terrible!!! Do NOT take her! Yes she knows her stuff but goes super fast and expects you to know it as soon as she's done teaching it. You have to go to class because she does clicker questions which is a part of your grade. Yes she does curve the tests but the final is 1-19 chapters. If you go to her office hours, doesn't help you.
Dr. Lundell is wonderful!! I had a horrible AP Bio teacher my senior year and I was very skeptical of majoring in Bio, but Dr. Lundell turned that around. Her class is tough but she either curves or eliminates your lowest grade of something. READ THE TEXT BOOK. You do clicker questions which are awesome. She is super nice. Take her!!
VERY HARD CLASS
Awful class. She teaches as if you already know the material, all she does is put the pictures from the (mandatory) textbook and talks about them. The online homework and tests are very hard, she words everything to where it tricks you. I loved bio until I took this class, now my GPA will suffer. Avoid Lundell at all costs.
all i felt about her is that she needs to change her lecture style. the materials should be presented more understandably, for, there could be students who actually struggle with biological subjects. overall, i'd say that she's a nice professor. so my advice is, if anyone is taking her, first understand your own level of understanding.
Dr. Lundell totally sucked, her class lectures totally sucked and even worse were her effin clicker questions. The questions were unbearably hard and had no correlation with lecture. The tests require critical reading and thinking skills, they don't really go over the book too much. Try to get another teacher before Lundell if possible.
SUPER HARD CLASS! i-clicker everyday, hard concepts never thoroughly explained, impossible tests, her averages for tests are like 50's. Recitation also required. Overall, bad teacher(geneticist) to be teaching an intro class.
Lundell is awesome! She really does care about her students. Biology is a very detailed subject and in this class it's really important to read the book because the professor doesn't have time to go over every single detail in the book. As long as you read the book and understand the concepts, you should be able to get an A. She does curve tests.
My first semester in college = 4 A's and 1 C. yes, this class was the C. Class is pretty much mandatory and iclicker questions everyday. Along with going to class there is a required 1 hour recitation class every week. It's pretty much impossible to get an A. To get a B is the realistic goal. I don't recommend this professor
She tells you almost everything you need to know in class. She gives Iclicker questions almost daily at the end of lectures. The questions are over the lecture and its applications. The resuscitation counts VERY heavily you NEED to go I got a B but would have gotten an A if hadnt missed 3-4 of them She drops grades. She also gives a high curve.
I have gotten A's in both Bio 1 and 2... Genetics? Not so much. Prof. Lundell lectures too quickly and often trips herself up in her words so it's confusing. iClickers have no correlation with the lecture and the homeworks can be just as difficult. Overall, she's a nice lady, but I wish I would've taken this course with another professor.
Even though Prof Lundell expects you to read the chapter ahead of her,she goes over everything in class. If you are a good note-taker, her notes are enough. She gives out sample tests before every exam, the questions on the exam will be very similar to the sample exam,so while finding answers for sample exam, read nearby sections as well
Hard, but fair. Helpful. She cares about the students and the subject.
Lundell is an excellent teacher. Keep in mind that this is a college level biology class so it is going to be difficult. Go to class, get the clicker points, read the chapter and you'll do fine. Use the old exams to study for the new exams.
Shes a very tough professor expects a lot for you to know. she teaches with slides that have pictures only from the book no words at all definitely have to come to class EVERYDAY! she gives iclickers and curves every test(if not then everybody would fail HORRIBLY).I originally was a Bio major and after I took her class and made a C I changed my maj
Those who say prof. Lundell suck are the ones who want it easy. Yes u have to attend class & yes the exams are a bit difficult but she curves high based off the iClicker questions. U will not get ur grade handed to u, u'll have to work for it but a B or A is not unattainable. Overall she's a good professor compared to the other Bio 1404 Professors
IF I had to take Dr. Lundell over again, I really would. Her tests are challenging sometimes, but actually going to class can do your grade wonders. The I-Clicker points can raise your test grade a whole letter. Go to class, go to recitation, and study old material. If you do these things, you'll get EASY points and won't regret it...
Lundell is a great professor who really knows her stuff. NEVER skip class, she covers a lot of material very quickly and expects you to keep up with the textbook. The test are difficult but iclicker points are very helpful. If you decide to take her, be prepared to work hard.
this class is very difficult even for a college bio class, i am one that always scored very high if not the highest on the i-clicker questions but when it came down to the exams i still failed horribly. You have to teach yourself everything if you want to learn anything I would advise you to take another professor!!
Well i guess it will depend of what kind of student you wanna be. I loved the way Dr Lundell teach. The i-clicker points are easy points to get, however it`s her method to push the students to stay on track. So if you want an easy teacher who will give you everything and post the courses online don`t take her. Overall she is great
Just read the book once and you will get a 100 on all the tests. You won't even need i-clicker points because she doesn't go over 100 for your test grade; the clicker points are useless. Unless you didn't read the book then go to class.
One of my top 10 profs of my college career. Tests can be challenging but only if you don't read all the assigned chapters. If you don't understand something then she's available right after class for help. Uses i-clkr's daily but only as bonus towards test. Usually gets you 10+ points on each test. Usually brings grading scale down anyways.
Class was easy, test little confusing, you must read the book, just as a side note even though you got an A all semester long doesn't mean you are exempt for the final (if you are too low she wont give you an A)... Tests are very like her reviews, BUT she changes the question "slightly" so the answer is completely different.Know your punnet squares
Professor Lundell is one of my favorite professors at UTSA. No, her tests aren't a cake-walk, but if you attend class regularly, do the online homeworks, and actually read the book, you'll be fine. An A is fairly easy to make. I-Clicker points help A LOT, up to 15 points extra on each test (except final) so take them seriously! Great professor!
I was so lost in this class. My test grades were horrible and I studied and read my book. She was a good professor and her class was challenging. This class made me reconsider my major. I think it was me. Nothing registered...
She's an alright professor, but her class isn't interesting. She tells a funny joke every now and then but other than that everything's pretty boring. I listen to her, but she always reiterates when people are trying to take notes "it's in your book, read it". She's not very prompt in responding to email and is technology inept.
Cradle the book at night. Use study questions provided on blackboard..they help with learning the material in the chapters. This class really required alot of attention. She is generous in the averaging and curves, but dont take this for granted. Work hard.
People exaggerate when they say Dr. Lundell's class is hard. An A is certainly not the easiest thing to make, but it is attainable. There is a lot of information covered, so read your book, take GOOD notes (preferably on a laptop because she goes over stuff really fast,)and study HARD. She gives generous curves on tests on top of clicker points.
Dr. Lundell is a great professor who is really passionate about what she does. Going to class isn't mandatory, but you really need to go to get all the info, and the bonus points for tests. Tests are tough but she gives study questions, old exams, and reviews. Study study study!
Tough class! I'm a mediocre biology student, & this class killed me. I am not one of those students who pick up things easily, I have to study my life away. It's a fast paced course, don't get behind! I don't recommend her. Unless you are willing to work incredibly hard on top of doing so for other courses. Take Geppert for Bio 2! You'll love her!
MUST go to class to get i-clickers! Tests are hard, but BIO is a relatively hard class, she doesn't make it any easier! QLABs aren't clear and you have to know the material before doing the assignment anyways. I wouldn't take her...again
Good lecturer. Attendance isn't completely mandatory but it is in that if you come to class you get bonus points on the test which you will desperately need to pass the class. The tests are hard and she selfishly does not provide the class with power point notes so students wont skip class in doing so she makings taking notes very hard to organize.
This class the hugest stress of my life. Tests are impossible. Only thing that saves you are bonus iclicker points. Ridiculously hard.QL lab is included in course that is completely useless and a waste of time. However, you learn in depth and retain everything the course covers. She loves biology. Her lectures are the most boring I've been to, tho
This class is pretty hard and it doesn't help when Lundell is the head of the Bio department. YOU MUST STUDY. You also must go to class and read. Her tests are VERY VERY hard. Go to class for iClicker points which go towards test grades. She also speaks to fast or too quietly. This class will make you stress like crazy.
Do not take unless you have to. This class is crazy hard and her exam averages were always in the 50s range but Professor Lundell isn't as bad as some of the other professors I've heard about. She gives tons of iclicker extra credit so go to class it could save you from failing.
She is a good lecturer, summarizes key concepts that you need to know from the book and gives clicker points(why you must go to class). Despite not posting powerpoints she posts old exams w/answers and study q's. Biosciences is mainly for premeds, it's hard regardless of professor. Take Lundell seriously and you WILL learn.
Dr. Lundell definitely gives you a run for your money. The class is definitely not easy, and you need to make sure you're on top of your readings every class. She expects you to know the chapters before hand. Very good at explaining a majority of the material. Main thing is to go to class, you get extra points with iclicker. They will save you!
Took her for genetics, she was a VERY tough teacher. She moves through subjects very quickly and her pwrpts are vague. She also doesn't post all of her pwrpts so it is hard to go back and see things she talked about. She also expects you to remember everything she might mentioned one time and will test you on it. I HIGHLY recommend not to take her.
Hard professor. On average students get 50-60's on exams, and their are only 4. I got a C. Don't take her.
It doesn't matter which professor you take, BIO 1404 is just a tough subject. She goes through the material fairly quickly and tests are really hard, so you need to make sure you're on top of everything.
She isn't as bad as people say. She is very friendly, helpful, and you can tell she likes the subject. She makes it challenging enough to LEARN the information. She has bonus i-clickers that are added to the exams, and if you work hard, getting an A is possible. Tests are cumulative, and derives review questions from previous tests.
Yo she changed my life forever.. But in a good way. Very tough.. iclickers are a must. Read read read.
Great professor. Don't go in expecting one professor to be easier than the other, biosciences is a hard class within itself!
Pretty tough, covers a lot of material in one class. On the first day of the semester, we went through TWO chapters! Just read in advance and you will do fine. Her class is virtually memorization. Can be a bit standoffish. I emailed her after missing one class to ask what I missed and she said, "Go ask one of your classmates what you've missed."
In general Biosciences is just a hard subject regardless of the professor. But she does teach extremely fast, it's not good to miss class much. The tests are pretty hard. But overall she was an ok teacher
She's obviously passionate about her class but her lectures are really boring and generally unhelpful but make sure you go to class because she takes iClicker points and she gives hints about what's going to be on her difficult tests. She specializes in genetics so BIO I has an emphasis in genetics. if you're a CAP student take another professor.
She knows whats shes talking about but teaches as if its medschool. Her lectures are virtually non-stop, and her exams..whoa..her exams are legendary as far as chances of making an A goes. I stil remember our first exam. Only ONE, ONE out of over 300 students got an A.. She wouldn't be half bad if she slowed down and offered reviews.. Re-taking..
Her exams are some of the most difficult at UTSA. This is coming from a science major.. On average only a handful of students make A's and just a few dozen may even pass. So make sure you SHOW UP TO CLASS. The only thing that may save you are clicker questions. Her finals are hell so study weeks ahead of time. Don't expect an A, or even a B..
Class is way too hard for a freshman biosciences 1 class. Her powerpoints are pretty much pictures and her talking about it, so expect to take your own notes on the go. HIGHLY RECOMMEND to read the text before class and take your own notes, it'll definitely help a lot more than her awful lectures. Attendance mandatory if you want clicker points!!
extremely hard class. must attend for the iclicker points - they are a grade-saver. very helpful in office hours, and you can tell she really cares about her students success. Make sure you read the textbook prior to class, it will make the lectures a lot more understandable!
One of the worst biology professor I have ever encountered. Her "lectures" are just her explaining random pictures from the book. Then on the tests she asks detailed questions that don't even matter. Only way I passed this class was through clicker questions. Do not take her for biology! She doesn't teach and has the toughest tests ever!! Do not take her!!!
Difficult. She expects you to know everything before class and simply lectures on pictures from the textbook. I guess my advice would be to make sure you read EVERYTHING before going to lecture. Tests are very difficult, but iClicker points really help save you. iClicker questions every class, so make sure you attend! Would not recommend.
Dr. Lundell was an AWESOME professor! She's very smart and is a great teacher. She explains a lot of things in simple terms so you can get a full understanding of it. Since she is a geneticist, her tests are mostly genetics based and very difficult. However, if you study a lot and do the iClicker questions you should do well in the class.
Be prepared for heavy textbook reading. If you want an A, you are likely going to be reading the textbook cover to cover. Genetics is too dense to cover in class. I spent consistent all nighters before the test, its brutal, man. Strange curve however. I-clickers are good portrayal of the upcoming test. Office hours we're uncomfortable.
Dr.Lundell herself is a very nice person and teaches fairly well. EXTREMELY knowledgeable about the subject of Genetics. Her test are also EXTREMELY hard and you have to know detail by detail of what is taught. You will study a ton for this class, the book is meh, but more of a side book, so keep it handy. Genetics is not easy, and prepare to die.
Attendance is not mandatory but HIGHLY recommended. iClicker points will save you on the exams. Yes, this class is difficult. No, she is not a bad professor. You get what you put into it, so as long as you study you will do well.
If you don't read and don't go to class, it will be difficult. Reading beforehand is pretty much required since all she does is like a quick review: explaining pictures, answering questions, clarifying. She's more like a guide. Going to class and doing iClicker questions gives you extra points on tests. Tests are a bit hard, but doable.
Lundell's probably the hardest Bio 1404 Professor at UTSA. Her tests are VERY hard but with the help of clicker points and a lot of study hours, a B obtainable.
Don't take Lundell unless you know your biology. She gives the hardest tests in the department and the averages on the exams are between a 50-60 every time. Attendance is mandatory because there are clicker points that she might add to your test grade. Get ready to study for days straight if you take her!
Great professor, she knows her stuff. She also tries her best to make the material somewhat easier to understand. Show up to class the I-clicker points are bonus on your tests. Also READ the chapters.
The material itself is hard. Just read, and look at videos on youtube, and make study groups. Anything and everything helps. The upside is that she adds clicker points from class sessions to your tests which is a huge help! I do feel more comfortable in Lundell's class than in Jaffe's, which was significantly different. (I transferred 2 weeks in)
I came in a bio major and by the end of the class I never wanted to see a bio book in my life. Her tests are tough, avg class grade 55. She'll confuse the hell outta you with 30 mins of non stop notes then an iclicker quiz and reapeat about 3 times (her class in a nutshell). She confuses the hell out of you, and then puts you to sleep. AVOID!!
It has been a crazy hard semester but this class definatly took the cake. She gives long lectures and lots of notes. if or when you find your self failing she will hold helpfull tutoring sesions by invitation only.
Her class is VERY difficult. Expect to spend a lot of time with your nose in the textbook as it is exactly what is on the tests. The class is manageable, but you can not afford to fall behind.
For everyone taking the class, read the book. Basic Biology will be difficult no matter what professor. Easy to pass if you read and attend her class.
Bio 1404 is a difficult course, but Lundell tries to make it manageable with clicker points that are added to exams (I added a letter grade to every exam because of them). Yes, her tests are difficult. The class is doable, though. READ the textbook, go to class, make study groups, and you'll live.
Bio 1404 is a very hard and she does try her best to make it easier. Her lectures are very long. I would recommended copy and pasting the pictures from the book prior to the lecture to a word document. Makes it A LOT easier to take notes. All I can say is get ready!
If you are a CAP student don't take Dr. Lundell. Go to class because clicker points add points to your test. But her tests are very difficult. She expects you to already know what's going on, and the mandatory QL sessions are pointless.
Biology is an amazingly hard course no matter which professor you take. My advice don't take Lundell but take a professor that us the campbell test bank to create their tests.
Bio 1404 is just a really difficult course. I felt that Dr. Lundell genuinely cares that her students do well. She just started a review session if you failed any of her tests. And going to her office hours is also helpful. This is by no means an easy class.
I really liked Lundell, she didn't hold your hand and didn't spoon feed you the answers. She was the perfect level of difficulty. I earned an A on each test without clicker points.
Took her for Bio 1404. Of course the class was difficult but considering Bio 1404 is a weed out class I gotta say i did pretty good and it thanks to Dr. Lundell. There is no question i would have failed the class had i not attended all of her lectures. She is a really good teacher. Class is tough but she is a really good teacher.
Dr. Lundell is not a terrible teacher but reading before classes will help tremendously. She goes into detail but not much, the rest has to come from the reading. ALWAYS go to class in order to get iClicker points, its usually what will help you get a letter grader higher than you would have otherwise. Make sure you know the info inside and out!
Prof. Lundell is a really tough teacher. You HAVE to read to pass her class. It is do-able though. She gives you help when you ask for it, but you HAVE to ask for it. Her lectures are good and she asks a lot of i-clicker questions so you get extra points. She curves her tests when she needs to but they're still difficult tests. Overall good class!
She really does not teach you as much. If you are not good in genetics like me, but would like an A, you must to read every chapter before class and go to every SI session. Go to office hours. Study the tests that she gives back to you, because each new test has a few questions from one before. Take Dr. Zeamer instead. You have to teach yourself.
READ READ READ
Class:Only explains pictures,so more of a review.I-clicker questions in class to help you on tests but they are random and embedded in her power-points. Tests: 5,super hard, nothing you really talked about in class. Does give study guides and practice exams.
Tests are worded difficultly. Everything other than tests are pretty easy in this class.
I will not take this professor again. Her class is tough and she wants you to read to learn instead of actually teaching you. I take classes in person because I cannot learn from a book. Sometimes when you go into her office for help she seems to speak to you like you are an idiot. I would rather take anyone else besides her.
The tests are made by the whole biology department and are pretty difficult. She has office hours so I would recommend using them. Additionally, I would advise anyone taking her classes to attend daily as she gives extra credit that can bump up your test grades a whole letter. I would also recommend that you read the textbook before class.
She's helpful and clear. It's a gateway course for bio majors. It's not necessarily supposed to be a cakewalk. Aside from tests I maybe went to 3 lectures. She gives clicker questions that I'm certain would have earned me an A if i had shown up. Genetics isn't my thing and I managed a B. An A is definitely manageable. Buy study guide w book.
Lundell makes you work for your grade FORSURE. STUDY PRACTICE EXAMS, she'll just change some numbers, or change 1 word around so if you know the practice test like the back of your hand, you'll definitely get a B on the tests, then an A with iclicker. Iclicker is EC on tests. GREAT in office hours. Her chapter objectives are super helpful too.
If you're taking Genetics and you want to retain the information for the mcat then I suggest you take her. She really wants you to take a hold of your own learning. The textbook saved my life. She's very helpful in office hours too. You have to study and read really hard for the tests. She gives extra questions in class that'll bump your test grade
She gives extremely hard quizzes that you can attempt multiple times, but you don't know which questions you got incorrect. She is very arrogant and does not like it when you ask a question. She rolls her eyes at everyone. Her tests are impossible, and she is rarely clear on what will be on it. Use Khan Academy if you must take her.
Very unfriendly! Lectures often times do not correlate with exams. Unprofessional, condescending during office hours. Makes it clear she doesnt want to help you, more of a scientist than a teacher. Lacks patience easily annoyed. Quizzes are ridiculously difficult more difficult than tests
She is so bad teacher
Her class is one that requires some effort but is definetly worth the money that you pay to learn. I did average on three of the test and bombed one, went to her office hour for her help over the test that I bombed, and did really well on the final and finished with an A. She is really a great professor, who really cares if her students learn.
By far the worst teacher I've had at UTSA. She's an awful teacher, unhelpful, rude, and often confuses herself while lecturing. Maybe once was a bright professor, but should have retired long ago. I made an A in her class, but by no means was it from her teaching. She should have retired long ago
Professor Lundell is the best Genetics professor at UTSA. Yes, she makes you work very hard for your grade, but you will be better for it come preparing for the MCAT. Trust me, you will know every aspect of Genetics. She is very supportive during her office hours. Once you get to know Professor Lundell you want to do good in her class.
Professor Lundell is very intelligent and she knows her stuff, but her class is not at all easy. Its a lot of material to cover and very complex topics to understand. You will actually need to take time out of your day and study for this class if you want a good grade. Does use iClicker for attendance and points go towards exams. Overall good.
Ms. Lundell DOES NOT teach. I had her for lecture & after taking genetics lab with a different professor I was actually able to understand the material so much better because they actually taught it to us. These comments saying she's a good professor because she makes you teach yourself are missing the part where teaching is her job.
Prof Lundell your teaching habits have to change. Lundell doesn't help you when you have questions. Students are expected to know the matrial, and when gone over,Lundell doesn't explain just goes through. Had zoomed meeting I asked a question about "where or what to look up on the interent to understand the subject and she laughed and didn't answer
Martha Lundell is by far one of the worst professors I've ever taken at UTSA. She does NOT care about her students. When we ask her questions about her lecture videos, she laughs at us as if we're stupid. Our class average on all 4 exams was a 60. She is not a good professor!!!!
Lundell needs to change her teaching style. All she does in her lecture videos is go over the diagrams that are in the book... If I wanted an explanation of the diagrams, I could read the book. She is unhelpful, very rude and blunt in her email replies, and I believe her goal is to ruin GPA's.
do NOT take professor Lundell if you can help it. She is an awful professor. Lecture videos are LONG and BORING... she goes over exactly what is in the book so save yourself some time and just read. She is demeaning and rude... so many people failed and the average for every exam was like a 60. Her grading scale sucks so bad too.. do not take her!!
Prof Lundell is not as bad as the other reviews say. She is fair, but the course is difficult. She provides extra credit, helps you extensively if you reach out, and WANTS you to ask questions about the current quiz. Don't slack off and put effort into it from the beginning. This course is a stepping stone for the more difficult classes.
I took her intro to genetics course during COVID. Difficult and text heavy subject for sure. However Lundell provides many many extra credit opportunities. Her video lectures are asynchronous and very very detailed. I recommend watching them a few times to fully grasp every details. She a fair professor and is held with very high honor at UTSA.
I took Dr. Lundell Spring 2021 during COVID. Her lectures are very thorough but you need to read the book and really study to pass her tests. They are difficult but only if you slack off. She is EXTREMELY fair and her extra credit is amazing. Don't expect it to be easy though, you have to study for those extra points as well. Tests are timed.
Prof Lundell is fair in grading and gives many opportunities for extra credit. The weekly bonus quizzes are a lifesaver. You can get an A if you work hard and listen to her lectures along with reading the book. Also, make sure to go over her practice exams before the exam day because they are very similar to the actual exam.
There are LOTS of extra credit opportunities that can bump test scores up to 2 letter grades. Lundell's quizzes are far more difficult than the exams but there is no time limit and you have multiple days to take them. Her actual exams are very similar to the practice exams she has.
Terrible teacher very rude and demeaning. She gets angry when you dont understand. Better off reading the textbook than taking her class. DO NOT TAKE HER IF YOU DONT HAVE TO!!!
Shes hard. Class exam avgs 55-65 aim to stay at or above it. Attendance not req, but the extra credit points for class quizzes saved my exam grades. At my old college i took orgo, and this class wasn't as hard as that but nearly equal. READ THE BOOK for chs u struggle on. The quizzes will key you in if you do. Treat exam reviews like the bible.
If you work you get the grade you want. Extra credit is amazing
Genuinely do not know how anyone passed her class. She is very rude and gets mad for asking questions?? Exams and quizzes are all she grades which are more than difficult. Her lectures consist of her reading a pp and not explaining anything. Average test grades among the class was often in the 40's. Within the 3rd week most students dropped.
Pay attention to her lectures & study the lecture questions- they are almost identical to exam questions. Lectures are fast paced but Office hours are SUPER helpful!! She explains everything much more slowly and takes the time to help. Barely enough time on exams but the extra credit helps. Everyone complained about this class but it wasn't bad.
She doesn't care for her students. My grandmother died mid-semester and I missed the midterm. She told me the final will count as 2/3 of the grade. I couldn't the retake midterm. Other Professors very understanding & allowed me to make up midterm. Lectures also do not correlate with tests. You will think you got it...but you probably don't.
Please attend lecture, though attendance is not mandatory she uses iclicker questions as bonus points for her exams, those questions is how I survived. Her lectures are going over brief chapters she expects you to already have read. The iclicker, textbook, and practice exams are like what is on her exams. past material is on the exam.
This class was a nightmare. If you miss one class it's very hard to get back on track. Lectures are boring and long, same goes for the tests. I don't recommend taking this professor because you probably won't pass.
The class will be difficult if you don't have a good foundation in biology / basic math. Lundell will NOT give you an easy A. And she often covers concepts very quickly. But she is more than willing to help if you ask her. Her study sessions + reading the textbook saved me. She gives tons of practice problems which closely resemble the actual exam
She is very fair with opportunities(tons of extra credit, available a lot outside of class, quick to respond to emails, practice exam is like the real exam), but her teaching style is not too good. A lot of stuff relies on lecture, which sucks because there's no recorded lectures. Read the textbook and make a study group if you want to do well.
