I had her for lab. She is a pretty good teacher. If you need help with the math part, just ask and she will basically tell you everything you need to know to figure it out.
I would definately recommend Professor Manly for chemistry 1211 lab.

She is kind and will help you. She gives a test every two weeks and they are very hard. On the test she only wants your answer sheet and their is no partial credit. She expects you to have taken honors chemistry and to have had a good foundation from high school.
Never take Martha Manly for lecture. She is very unclear and doesn't know how to help her students in a way that they can understand. The homework that she gives is also nothing like what is on the test or that she has went over in class. You have to be able to teach yourself the material w/o her.
Prof. Manly is very sweet and laid back for lab if you are the same to her. She has a great sense of humor and loves what she does. She grades tough but is never too busy to help you out!
I LOVED HER CLASS! It was one of my favorite classes at KSU! She is awesome! She will help anyone in the class with the lab or lecture. She is easy going, but strict on the rules. But I would say she is AWESOME!
Dont recommend to take unless YOu have strong background in chemistry. Wants the exact answers on the test, strict very STRICT on rules, no partial credit, but good and easy going in lab. Be careful NOt For Lecture, hard to understand
I like Mrs. Manly. She loves to talk to and get to know her students. Although she has so many students, she knows most of us by name and face. She gives you her home information so that you can contact her at home (before 9pm) with any questions. GREAT CLASS! Very fun!

If you have a strong background in Chemistry, go ahead and take her class. If not, then drop the class now, and look for a different prof. Seriously.
Very poor instructor- She is used to teaching children and doesn't realize that she in now teaching at a university. What especially bothered me is that she often spoke to her students in a condescending manner.
First off, we had to switch professors half way through the semester. But we have never met her, and she expected us to have the assignments that she assigned to her OTHER class done and we were penalized for it! She sucks!
I loved her lab! She comes off as anal, but she's such a wonderful professor. I learn more from her lab than what I do in lecture. She's always willing to help out and I would definately suggest taking her for lab.
Don't listen to what other people write in here. Do not take her class, because you will most likely fail.

this was the LAB. It was the most miserable experience of my life. She offered NO help and if you asked would look at you like you were crazy. I got the A by working hard but I know plenty who didn't. Listen to her pre-lab it is ALL you get! BUT IF YOU ARE WISE YOU WONT SIGN UP FOR HER TO BEGIN WITH!!!
Mrs. Manly is not a good teacher... bottom line. Labs are taken way more serious than other professors teaching that same course. She expects too much for giving absolutely nothing for you to work with. If you have never had a science lab before you might as well be blind in there.
Ms. Manly is a very knowledgable professor. Her tests are hard but you have to study the textbook and not only her notes. She even emphasizes how you have to read the chapters and do the end of the chapt questions. That's what gave me an A in the class. If you do the questions at the end of the chapter, you'll do well on the tests.
Professor Manly clearly has skill and know-how about Chemistry, but I cannot recommend her to anyone unless Chemistry is your life. If you don't know the material perfectly already, find a different professor.
I had her for Lab and she wasn't very helpful. If you ask her questions, she'll give you short, one-worded answers. She expects too much out of the students in such little time. If you don't know the material, you're SOL. Strict and it's her way or the highway.
If you came straight out of honors high school chemistry, you may be fine. However, she is not very helpful at all with students questions. On top of that, she yells at her class like you are her child. She needs to get a life...I don't even want to waste any more time giving her a review. Good Luck
She was my lab professor and a very unhelpful lab professor at that. Thank goodness for TA's, because Ms. Manly would not assist anyone at all. She's a nice woman outside of class, but otherwise I wouldn't take her.
She is very nice knowledgable. She knows the most random, interesting facts and relates them to the material. Chem is not easy and you have to try of course, but she is a great teacher. Make sure that you write out the quest and the answ on homework. She drops the lowest test grade. I read the book also and that helps a lot. Take her class & study
She provides notes online for you to follow in class. You have to do the homework and it does help and she does grade it. She drops the lowest test grade. She also gives sample exams and those help as well even though she does not grade them. She shows lots of examples. You can call her and go to her before tests for help with anything. She does relate Chemistry to real life so its not that bad. She also reviews for tests.
Intelligent but difficult. At least half the class withdrew... including me, she confused the material and was not nice!!
This teacher is awful. She is rude, hateful, doesn't want to answer your questions and takes off ALL credit for the tiniest errors. I got 15 points off of a homework assignment 50% of my grade for being "too creative" with how I wrote a check in a box. She's awful and the worst teacher I have ever had. Don't take her.
Mrs. Manly was a great teacher. She was a bit ill until after the add/drop day, then she was pretty nice. Very clear in what she wants you to learn. She cares whether or not you understand the material. Attendance and HW were mandatory but HW was a completion grade. If you attend all of the lectures it will keep your book reading to a minimum.
Not a good teacher. She doesn't care if you don't understand what she teaches, she just teaches the material to get through it. She helps before class but its limited. Her test are fill in the blank and multiple choice.

Mrs Manly is an excellent teacher who really cares about her student's comprehension of the subject matter. She uses clear, well thought out analogies to explain difficult concepts. She is available before and after class for help and truly shows an interest in her students.
She is rude,boring, and she likes to take points away on homework.She will say, you do not have to write the question,but then she will say she did not know what you are answering and give no credit.She also is offended if you leave a comment to her on your homework saying you could not get the answer shown in book but show your work, dont do that

Gives good examples but doesn't fully explain them. I wouldn' t recommend her at all. Test are very hard and don't really follow lecture - test averages were VERY low and struggled to get any higher. Avoid if possible.
She is not a great prof. When you ask her a question she tells you that you should already know that and continues with the lecture. She also takes points off on the homework if it is not done exactly how she wants it. I would not recommend taking this professor.
She knows chemistry like we all know the back of our hand. She is tough in class, and you must be very diciplined in the lectures. Outside of class she is more than helpful and will work you through tough concepts. Chem is hard for most of us, but Ms. Manly is more than willing to help pull you through the class, you just need to do your part.
She was not very helpful, and the first two exams were extremely difficult, with alot of the questions being much more difficult than what was taught in class. Doesn't curve grades at all. Wouldn't reccomend.
This is a great teacher she knows what she is talking about. She has printable notes online that help and sometimes leaves a test review guide online as well. The tests are not that bad although they can be a little tricky. Take her lab because she helps you more. Read the book and pay attention in class and you wont have trouble getting a A or B.

Definitely a hard class, but chemistry is not meant to be easy. Don't understand why people are saying she doesn't curve tests because she does...She usually takes off two wrong answers, so if you missed 5 she usually only counts 3. After the professor I have now for 1212, I wish I had her back! She is tough, but she's clear about what she wants.
I love this teacher so much! she is very helpful and makes sure her students understand the material. Most students don't like her because she may sound mean; however you can make an A in her class. She loves to answer questions. I have had her 2 times now! she is AMAZING
Dr. Manly is old school. Come to class PREPARED as you ought to be, follow the rules, do the lab reports completely, and you will do well. People complain that she's too hard, but this is chemistry children, not women studies. She's a good instructor, just because she's not handing A's like candy, doesn't mean she's a bad teacher.

Professor is rude, condescending, and nitpicks silly details. Does not follow syllabus, especially with lab notebooks. Will make your life a living hell. Lots of busy work for no good reason. Avoid at all costs.

Manly is very hard. She doesn't tell you you have to write the question on homework until you get it back with a failing grade. Her test are hard! The lectures are not helpful at all. The homework is different from the lectures. I would not recommend anyone to take her class.
Please don't waste your time with this woman. She is rude and doesn't care at all about you as a student. She actually kicked a girl out of class for sighing over her FAILED test grade. I don't know how people can stomach giving her a good review. She makes me want to cry and change my major. Her class is terrible. Please please please don't do it.
If you value your sanity and self-esteem (and GPA), you will NOT take a class with Manly. I got a 65 on the first test and a 40 on the second. DON'T DO IT.

Hands down worst professor I've ever had. VERY rude and is not available for extra but 25 min in the morning. Lectures are pointless and tests are very difficult. Definitely talks down to students and makes it seem as if you have no chance at passing the class. If your in her class the best advice is get out while you can.
Mrs.Manly is a great teacher. Chem is a tough subject but if you study hard and really apply yourself, she really prepares you for the final given by the American Chem Society that everyone takes. I did well in her class and she was there to help you and gives great analogies and makes it easier to understand. Study hard and pay attention in class.
Great teacher. A little tough, but it's chemistry. She always gives great analogies in class that make topics a lot more clear. Her homework is due on test day, so doing it is basically studying for the test. She curves the final more than ACS does, and she may bump your grade if you're right at the A/B or B/C line.
This lady is old fashioned and gives you notes in class.. reviews are useful and practically does the homework for you in class. Study hard for best results on tests.
DO NOT TAKE HER! she is not good at teaching her notes. when she shows examples, she assumes you already know some of the steps so she skips over some steps. she has VERY strict test grading. she's just not good at teaching, period.
I have gone on to a Master's Degree, and can still say that she is the WORST professor I ever had! DON'T DO IT. She should stick to high school, and even then, it's a stretch.She really shouldn't be a teacher at all. Horrible, almost ruined my interest and passion for the subject. I had her for lab and lecture and was terrified because of the reviews I read on here. She is so incredibly easy! She curves every test, barely looks at HW and there is no attendance policy! Highly recommended. TAKE HER!
Mrs Manly a stickler to the rules Marked the lab notes books as we are stepping into the class, gives back prev lab rep after a well crafted briefing, she collects the reports4he prev lab. Lab rep is due on every next lab.she makes sure that the lab dressing codes are observed to the later for the safety of the students. But She is AWESOME!
Very good teacher, one of my favorite classes. Explains experiments very well, and will help if needed. Very strict on rules about dress code, and how she wants you to turn everything in but is just helping. I would recommend her and I will take her again for my next ChemLab!
Amazing! If you attend every lab and do your work, she's a sweetheart. Yeah she's a stickler on clothing, but it's lab after all. I learned a lot in her class; one of my favorite professors at KSU. Take her. You'll be glad you did.
Martha Manly was the most anal instructor I have ever had. Sadly, she did not apply the same level of interest in her teaching that she did for her silly rules. This woman is clearly past her prime and is due for retirement. She is unhelpful, condescending and sometimes hostile to her students. If teaching is such a chore, a new career is in order.
Mrs. Manly is an extremely helpful professor who uses real world examples to explain complicated ideas, thus rendering them understandable. I highly recommend this professor.
Mrs Manly is great. Incredibly helpful and available. She is also very strict! Do NOT take anything other than water into the classroom or you WILL be called out. If you follow her rules, you'll do fine and learn quite a bit of chemistry through real life clear examples and chemistry history too.

She is very nice and helpful. Not a very picky grader I made 100's on a lot of my lab reports.She is willing to help but sometimes not the best at it. When you ask her a question sometimes she makes you more confused then you were before you asked the question but she tries. I really enjoyed her and I highly recommend taking her.
demanding/knows her material extremely well/does not allow you to ask questions she"doesn't have time" the only way I learned was attending the SI sessions held outside of class. gives homework every chapter due before each test, super easy homework. Also gives an outline of each chapter. Great at her subject but not very helpful to her students.
In the lecture, got a D - but the lab (different teacher), got a B. Manly is not very helpful to students and she doesn't go over subjects very thoroughly. Idk how my grades were so different but we were learning the same things in lab/lecture. Do not recommend!
This class isn't that hard. 3 out of the 4 tests are easy. She drops one. The homework is easy, and she isn't strict on it, as long you follow her format. The final is very hard and she did not really prepare us well for it. She knows the material, but doesn't do many example problems. Follow the chapter outlines and practice, practice, practice!
She has been teaching for 30 yrs so she knows Chem. I believe this causes her to assume her students understand her lecture. If you ask a question, you may or may not get a direct answer. I've seen her yell at my classmates for trying to get a clear understanding from another sitting next to them. This was extremely hard i will retake in the fall.
I hated her teaching style. She makes an outline of each chapter and uses her outline to lecture in class. She rambles on about stuff that isn't on the test and then speeds by the important formulas and actual things we need to know. Class was a waste of my time. I had to teach myself in order to pass her class.
I love chemhave experience & her class makes me hate it. She never tells you what she wants you to know specifically. She tells you to memorize things you never use. Her tests are mostly short answer & are short leaving little room to misplace even one letter. She expects you to know any little weird thing about chem & will pick random questions.
I went to her office hours everyday and she never would actually help you she would just ask you questions. Her tests where so HARD and didn't look anything like the homework or her notes. I would never recommend her to anyone!
I really don't know why professor manly has really bad reviews she is a great professor. Sometimes she rambles on but she explains all the concepts in a understandable manner. chemistry will never be easy. Read the book practice and you'll do fine. Test are not that hard if you know the material. don't just expect to show up to class and pass.

Absolutely loved Professor Manly! She tests only on what she lectures so not too much reading in the book. Gives you all the notes to print out and will help if you need it. Her tests are challenging but not too bad and usually gives 1-2 questions that you can miss on a test without any penalty which is a plus! Would definitely take again!
Manly is very articulate and explains what knowledge is needed for tests in great detail. That being said, her tests are short and can be very difficult. Fortunately, the study sessions she offers goes over her old tests. Take notes, go to provided study sessions, and listen to any helpful hints she offer and you will be fine. Overall very helpful

Her lectures outline what you have to read so please listen closely and read. Reading is important because she may not say things in lecture that is on the test! Relates real life examples to her explanations for you to better understand! 4 Test drops lowest grade. NO QUIZZES. Look at previous tests some answers maybe on yours.
Mrs. Manly is a really sweet old lady! She will help you if you need it. If you read the chapters you'll pass the tests without a doubt. Homework due every test day, but if you look in the chapters or online you can figure out the answers easy.

I am a hard working student and I give credit where its due but she just goes way to fast during lecture and she barely explains anything. She expects you to know everything about Chemistry. I took Manly for lab after being warned not to, because this lab was the only to fit in my schedule. First off, she wasn't even there much (grad student prof) and rarely helped when she did. She got mad at me on the first day for touching my safety glasses BEFORE we started the lab. All I know who had her for lecture said she gave horrible notes.
Professor Manly is my least favorite professor this semester. She expects for everyone to understand how to get every problem without any explanation. Her lectures are long and boring and you don't really learn how do to important calculations that are on the tests. If you can take a different professor do it!
She's super old fashioned, the notes she gives during lecture are not very helpful, there are only four tests and no other assignments. She does not give extra credit extra credit. I would not take her class again. She's a nice lady though.

In a class that has humbled students of all backgrounds, Manly stands as a figure to be both respected and feared for all the same reasons. If you read the book you can basically teach yourself the class. You will not like her at first, odds are you won't like her at all, but you will walk out with what you need as you finish the easiest chemistry
She used to be a high school teacher, so she treats the classroom that way (i.e. no talking AT ALL). Very old-fashioned when it comes to notes, & an incredibly tough grader (no half credit EVER). Is a nice person to talk to outside of class though, & is a bit gracious on grades towards the end of the semester. Attendance is taken (not for a grade).
No quizzes,4 tests,tons of online homework,& a final. All the struggles you will have with her boils down to only 5 grades (drops lowest test grade, puts all hw @ end of semester as 1 grade FOR ACCURACY based on total points earned, and final 5 grades). Even if you don't like her,let those 5 grades be your motivation,not making friends with her.
Took in 2014, she was wonderful. Do not get on her bad side. If you show you're trying you will get a lot of help from her and she will do everything to help you understand the material. FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS TO A T!!!!!!! She makes you work for your grade! Very nice woman, reminds me of a sweet grandma. Loved her class, she saved my chem grade!
Gives almost no grades (4 tests, 1 final, and some online homework), so you need to make perfect grades on everything to make a decent grade in the class. Homework is done online with a very finicky program, so it's hard to do well on it. Harsh grader and doesn't explain very clearly. If possible, take a different teacher.
very sweet lady but as a teacher she expects you to understand w/o questions & when you ask questions she treats you as if you didn't try to understand. use the bathroom or leave? don't. 4 tests, a final, homework. Comparing to connect math where you can try it and keep going until you get. The more help you ask for, the less credit you receive
She makes the hardest concepts seem simple,and the easiest seem impossible. There is a simple formula to calculate formal charges, but she never mentioned it (looked it up myself). Instead she kept drawing molecules and made it seem like formal charges were the hardest thing we had to learn. VERY harsh grader too, considering its a gen ed class.
There's TONS of homework on Mastering chemistry that won't help you on tests. The tests are very difficult and there is no extra credit or quizzes whatsoever. A huge chunk of your grade comes from tests and given how difficult they are, can make you fail the course entirely. You're expected to already know this stuff on day ONE. Very tough class.
She's absolutely! Treats class like highschool. If you leave class for the bathroom or any other reason she will call you. Mastering Chem(homework) will be the death of you and has absolutely nothing to do with the test. She only has 5 grades. Test are beyond ridiculous! And she makes the easiest topics seem impossible. Avoid this lady on all cost.
Manly is very educated in Chem, but she acts like you should know everything that she is teaching. She expects prior knowledge. The notes in class were pointless to me because barely any of it was on the tests. The tests are not TOO hard if you know the material. She grades harshly. TONS of homework that would take LOTS of time. I didn't enjoy her.
Professor Manly definitely knows Chem, but she lacks in teaching it properly to students who may have a harder time understanding the material. The Mastering Chem homework online is TIME CONSUMING, and it is very difficult to complete. It also does not provide much help for preparation for her tests.I do not recommend her if you struggle with Chem.
Mrs. Manly's lectures are straight forward. They are a condensed and simplified version of the textbook which makes the concepts easy to understand but hurts when having to take the ACS Exam which covers more topics than were covered in class. Another frustrating feature of the class was that Manly gives no partial credit in any form.
Manly is old, and her use of technology is bare minimum. She uses an overhead projector to show her handwritten notes. Tests are pretty straight forward. The first two were basically the study guide, the third was tricky and did not look like the study guide. Homework is a bore, get chegg and copy answers or apply yourself for good test prep.
I am very good at chemistry and this class was really hard. Her lectures did not make any sense. She acts like a high school teachers and likes to kick people out of class for talking and call people out if they tried to leave early. It is pointless to go to class because she is not helpful.
Manly comes into the chem lab and looks at my broken arm that was casted. She then asks me to take my cast off because I cannot properly do the labs with it on. OK SRY LET ME GO SAW IT OFF IN THE BATHROOM LOL. Long story short I dropped the class a few days later bc honestly who wants to learn from someone like that??
I took her for Summer Semester (lecture) and I walked out with a B. I am HORRIBLE at Chemistry, however, she made wonderful relationships between real life and chemistry terms. There were a few instances where I grew confused or lost, however, I was always able to keep up. Lectures tend to be drawn out and boring.
Only reason I got an A in this class was because I took AP Chem in high school with an Emory educated teacher the semester before taking this class, and it still was a low A. The only other people who made A's were people who had a similar situation to mine, or the middle aged people who came back to school (more motivated). Take Baker or Kelley!
Don't take Manly if you've never had chem or if your chem education wasn't that great. She teaches like you already know the material and she's just reviewing it. If you already know the stuff, then she'd be good because you don't have to go to class. The only grades are the tests and some homework. Definitely makes it more work than it needs to be
Took her as a freshmen (am a junior now), and I'm glad that was the only time I had to take her. She is a nice person, but is SUCH A HARSH grader. In my analytical chem class, my professor was not as strict on sig figs as Manly. No half credit ever. If you want to just pass the class, take her. If you want an A, avoid.

pretty bad teacher. i failed chem before and took her because people said her tests are easy. i ended up having to teach myself EVERYTHING and i still may fail the class because she misinformed us of her hw policy. refuses to have a conversation and comes off very rude to certain people. her tests are fairly easy, except for test 2. dont.
Don't listen to the haters. Manly is an exceptional lecturer who uses the class as an opportunity to clarify the reading material. Kicks disruptive people out of class instead of letting them ruin it for the rest of us. Go in ready to learn and leave enlightened.

I was one of the only people to get an A in my class, and that was because I took AP chem in high school AND I studied my butt off in this class. If this your first time ever taking chemistry, AVOID!!!
Manly is a really sweet lady, and has stayed after class to help me several times. Not gonna lie, this class is hard. You will have to work for what you want if you are not so great with Chemistry. But she explains information as simple as possible and does not mind repeating and breaking it down until you understand. I would take her again.
I promise you worst teacher on campus doesnt work out problems fearing shell get it wrong will give you a zero for something as simple as chewing gum in lab and any question you ask is reponded with either do the homework(which she doesnt show you how to do) or read the book do not take this teacher unless your fine with teaching yourself horrible

DO NOT TAKE. She never explains anything clearly. Notes are handwritten and then read during class. She has four exams but then drops your lowest. You have a homework grade from mastering. Most of my questions that were asked in class that needed more of an explanation ended up with an answer from her that was a yes or a no. No further explanation.
Chem is a hard class but prof Manly did not make it any better. Her tests are really hard and she expects you to know the stuff. Not good at teaching and I do not recommend!

Only reason I made a B in that class was because, I read the book and taught myself EVERYTHING that she should have done. Her note are 1 page long for each chapter..... You don't know what to expect on test because in class she doesn't go over info clearly enough. I'm in chem 2 right now make an A+, and chem 1 with manly is 200X harder....
Really difficult and hard to understand. I'm doing better in Chem 1212 than I did in this class. She had vague lectures and poor explanations.
Chemistry is a difficult class, and Manly is not the worst teacher I've ever had, but she certainly doesn't prepare you for the tests as well as the others do. She'll talk about a definition for 30 minutes, and breeze through an equation before you can copy half of it down. She seems to like talking more than teaching. If you study you will be ok
Ms Manly is a good professor who wants all of her students to succeed. In her lecture, there are 4 tests and one ACS final that she cannot control. The other 4 tests are fairly easy, especially if you come in with a background in chemistry.
Manly didn't even teach our class, she let her assistant do all the talking and she was more confused than us. It was just very confusing and her assistant often got angry with us because we could not understand her teachings. Manly seemed nice but she taught to fast and that wasn't helpful for an already difficult lab course
Professor Manly is the worst teacher I've ever had. She does not know how to work up to date technology nor does she teach the class in a way a teacher should. She reads over the notes sheet and sometimes will write example but never explains things thoroughly. Every time I would ask a question she would actually say she did not know the answer.
Mrs. Manly is a nice, kind person, however her teaching style is nothing short of terrible. If you want to do good in her class, you will have to teach yourself the material by reading the textbook and doing the homework. Her lectures consist of her skimming through the notes she makes.
She's a sweet lady who is nice and can be funny, however her teaching style is very ineffective and is not helpful at all.
Lectures long and boring, she doesn't really answer any questions she is asked. She always walks around them or says she doesn't know. She can never really help with anything and goes off on tangents not relating to the subject at hand which can be frustrating. All tests are 25 questions. I hate this because if you miss few questions you can fail
For any student who needs to take this class and this is the only professor left, don't sign up for this class. I looked at her score and thought it was manageable probably just like how you are now, and this class was more stressful than my major classes. Just avoid at all cost.
Worst teacher of all time. DO NOT TAKE. Offers no help and won't even answer your questions in class. The tests are ridiculously short so miss just a few you fail. She could care less to see her students succeed you can tell all she cares about is getting a paycheck at the end of the day. If you want to fail chemistry and hate your life take her.
Only a few grades given, and her tests sometimes cover material that she's said two sentences about. I had to teach myself everything. HW is harder than tests. Her lecture notes are not helpful. Simple concepts are made complicated, and she doesn't give you any tricks to better understand(there's a ton of chem tricks online so look at those.)
She is a terrible teacher and needs to be removed from the chem department and KSU. She is very mean and strict and is bad at explaining stuff. Also, her labs are taught by Grad students who barely know what they are doing and dont know what they are teaching. STAY AWAY!!!!!!!
You basically have to teach yourself everything. She doesn't answer questions clearly. If she is your only option, DO NOT TAKE HER.
She was very strict in lab but i appreciated her concern for safety. She could be very brash but also very sweet. However, she was the strictest grader I have met. You need to review your lab 3 times for mistakes. Something minor like using ml instead of mL in a calculation will get everything wrong. You can get do everything correctly and fail.
She is super old school, strict on lab attire, but nothing is unwarranted. If you show up prepared with your labs written and the right clothes, the class is easy. I was terrified at the beginning of the semester but she hasn't been terrible. She is hyper paranoid about cheating apparently, but I've never had an issue.
Worst Professor Ive ever had in my life. My entire life, Ive been an A student with the occasional B. This is my first C in a class ever. Shes awful, grades extremely hard over tedious things such as ml instead of mL. It says not to use derogatory terms so Im only thinking of them in my head. find another instructor. Worst Professor Ive seen.
Professor Manly follows the syllabus strictly meaning no extra credit, no coming into labs with a wrong lab note book and no make ups. Regardless, I found her to be fair in grading and fairly good at explaining things although I feel the class was intentionally made to be tedious and punish students heavily for early mistakes.
Do yourself a favor. Dont take her...
She does an awful job of teaching the material. I have never seen a professor do a better job of turning an easy topic into something confusing. She will go over a topic for two weeks, then when the test comes around the material is no where to be found. She claims to take the test, but will offer no insight on what to prepare for. SAVE YOURSELF
Please do not take professor manly! I went into this course with high hopes, thinking as long as I studied as hard as I can and do all my work I would be okay. WRONG. She does not help you understand what will be on the tests and doesn't follow the syllabus schedule which makes it nearly impossible to know what you'll be tested on. DO NOT TAKE !!
9/10 would not recommend. Honestly I attended every lecture in the beginning and came to terms with the fact that they were useless. If you are stuck with her then I would just read the textbook chapter for chapter because that'll be better than paying attention to her "notes" which are super broad and useless.
Literally the worst teacher I have ever had. Labs were so stupid and wasteful of time. Quizzes were not over the labs at all. It literally took weeks for us to get a single lab back. She grades extremely crucially and hard. We literally got most of our papers back on the day of the final. DON'T DO IT
Stay away from this professor. Lots of homework but due at the end of semester, don't fall. Posted her lectures; attendance was optional. Lectures/homework seemed super hard, but quizzes were easy 4 questions and 12 question tests avg. No study guides. Use the ACS study guide, final was hard. She allows retakes for every asses., retakes verbatim
She is a very nice lady but as a teacher was one of the worst experiences i've had. the quizzes were like 4 questions and over literally the RANDOMEST stuff that we didn't even go over. the only reason i passed is bc we could retake them!! and the lectures are useless. all in all i do not recommend her but she is a nice lady
Ms. Manly was one of the worst instructors I've ever had in my college career. Quite frankly, she didn't even seem qualified to be a CHEM instructor. Also one of the rudest people I've ever met. If she's still teaching, AVOID. Take Dr. Janet Shaw instead- amazing Professor (PhD), a more intelligent person, fair grader, and has a beautiful soul.
