She never hands back your work, she cancels class all the time, there is no room for improvement. I thought she was really knowledgeable, but i felt i was taking a feminist course

Funny gal! Very strange, very nice, very funny. She has a tendency to skip her own class. In one semester she cancelled or skipped like 5 classes! Otherwise good, but don't expect to get work back, she likes to keep it forever!

she was a great prof! I wrote essays about popcans and she was fair enough to mark them for their merit as essays, not for their actual content! fun class, lets you really write whatever you want. And she loves arguments in class :D tis grand!

the things people are saying are true: wells is a fantastic prof who really makes class interesting and even fun. she makes you laugh and will laugh along with you. she's very nice; easy to approach and ask for help. an all around great prof!

she is awesome. super funny and great to talk to. i gave her a hot rating for 1 reason only. cause if she stopped with the baggy sweaters and 80's jeans and put on some downtown clothes she would be a piece.

Nice lady...well that is what I saw of her. She cancelled 7 classes in one term. She must have loved my papers because she kept them for sometimes months. Kinda kooky but would recommend her is your willing to put up with some frustration.

I love this prof. and wish I could have her for every English class from now on!

Martha is an awesome/hilarious prof! Yes, she sometimes takes a while to return assignments, but it is worth it to get back the nice comments she writes. Very creative and witty teaching style... a pleasure to attend her class

She keeps things interesting, and she keeps me laughing. If you don't know one thing, she dosen't take off an unfair amount of marks. She is a good teacher overall, but its hard to know what she likes to hear in essays/assignments.

Recommend her to anyone who hasn't been in school for a long time. It takes a few classes to get used to her style, but she got me through it after 30 years away from school. Funny and easy going lady. Helpful comments and a fair marker. You do the work,You get the mark.

Awesome prof, really got me interested in this course, she really knows her stuff. She's hilarious and very easy-going, if you get a chance to take one of her classes, do it!

I think she's a really great prof. I loved going to class, because it was always fun and interesting. She made me really interested in the stuff we covered even though I wasn't very interested in english before I started the course.

i disagree with the last comment. prof wells was the best english prof i've ever had. there is reasoning behind the sometimes lacking explanations. you do your prep on your own so your essays don't come from the mouth of martha. she's a great prof and will help you if you need it. Just ask!

Gave lots of helpful comments on essays, even when I got really good marks. She's also got an awesome sense of humor.

Great prof. Actually makes going to class worthwhile. Though there is a lot of work, it is fun, and you can improve your mark in ehr class unlike some other english profs.

At first i wassnt sure hat to think of her but nowi really appreciates her teaching style. Shes funny and interesting and can make connections between any story or poem possible. She graded fairly and depending on what you're looking for in an english course, i would recommend her

At first I wasn't so sure, but in the end I really appreciated her as an english prof. She makes connections between works, and leaves great comments on essays. She is very approachable, someone you can actually talk to after class. She doesn't seem like she'd bite your head off. Definately recommend her.

You may be unsure about her at first but she's a great prof!!im glad i stuck with her. shes a little crazy and some stuff she talks about in class will shock you, lol. great prof :)

Excellent prof. Seems kinda strange when first meeting her but she is best kind. Hard grader.. but remember we're in university so work hard and you'll do fine!

she gives a ridiculous first impression, but is actually really funny, nice, and unique. she is a really tough marker though .. so you have to work realllly hard if you want a good mark.

I had her for 1080 and 1110. I found her classes interesting and she has excellent insight. Her teaching style is fun. We watched south park to analyze satire. Her assignments are interesting. She is a hard marker and requires alot of work however, her class is very enjoyable.

English is by far my least favourite subject, but I have to say I genuinely enjoyed this class. Martha is a great prof, very helpful, although yes, maybe a little bit strange at first :)

Martha is a very interesting professor. By no means do I consider myself a good writer, but I still managed to get a decent mark in the course. She is very helpful and there are mandatory peer-review sessions for your essays which really do help in your overall marks on your papers. She is quirky and I found myself laughing a lot in her class.

At first i thought Dr Wells to be a bit too eccentric, but after a while she really grows on you! Very fair marker and offers helpful feedback on assignments (which i find very beneficial). Also, course workload was assigned nicely and wasn't overwhelming at all. Overall - i loved her as a prof, and will look for her again in future courses!

Martha was a great professor. Her unique take on anything and everything will always keep you interested. She is so graceful and a great marker.. definitely recomended!

Great prof. Very funny and keeps your interest. I enjoyed her class and would take her class again. Make sure you read random details when it comes to her quizes, and be prepaired for some surprisingly detailed stories. Go to class because she gives you lots of helpful information by disecting everything.

Ha! Great prof. I hate english courses but this one was an exception. She seems like she's got a few screws loose (her sense of humour is umm... off) but she makes things crystal clear and marks fairly. She seems opinionated but doesn't let that affect your teaching. I'll admit I thought I was going to despise her but that turned right around!

Martha is a bit...goofy. I always got a kick out of her attire. But she's really sweet and a fairly easy marker. There is a lot of work in her course but she gives lot of help and has an easy method for accepting papers. Recommended.

Martha is amazing. She is a bit silly but is very helpful and makes a 2.5 hour class whizz by. She has fun and creative assignments and is a fairly easy grader. She makes a point to get to know her students. I would definitely recommend her to anyone.

Amazing prof. Sometimes she was a bit ranty and didn't come off as 100% clear, but so willing to help anyone whos interested in learning. She marks really fairly too. Will do a lot to help her students pass.

I LOVE Martha, she is very eccentric but so sweet. I had been sick for a bit and she saw me sitting in the arts building and told me we had a quiz that day and what to read. What prof does that? I would have failed otherwise. She is a very fair marker and a great woman. Highly recommend her.

She improved my writing abilities more than any of the grammar or other English courses I took. Kept things interesting and fun, marked fairly. She really got everybody to be creative.

Intreresting class, easy to pay attention too however ever erratic on notes, and goes off on tangents regularly. EXTREEMLY slow marker, and not the most clear on what she wants.

Martha is such a nice prof!!! The stories/poems she chooses are pretty bizarre and she takes a very long time to grade things, but she is very understanding and eager to help you in any way she can. She's one of those english profs that is very clearly an english prof, but her humour brightens up my day! I would totally recommend her

Martha gives a LOT of quizzes each worth 1%, 3 in class essays, 1 take home essay and 20% final. She is a classic english teacher, whatever mark you get on your first essay will probably be your mark on everything. She also takes forever to grade things. However, i still really liked her!

Her lectures were interesting and helpful but she gave a lot of quizzes on material that she didn't teach and it took her months to return essays.

Quirky, eccentric, funny, and smart. I enjoyed Martha as a prof even if I didn't always receive the best grades from her. Fun semester, even though there was a lot of homework, and I do mean a lot.

Martha is such a caring an sweet person, she provides great feedback and is always willing to help! The work wasn't challenging but it was heavy at times and I found the mandatory peer review sessions really beneficial! I really liked how she made an effort to get to know her students! 10/10 recommend her for 1110!!

Martha is such a gem, she truly cares about her students and is so quirky and approachable. Her teaching style is a little all over the place and she is a bit of a tough grader but she is always open to disagreements and discussions and will tell you exactly where you went wrong. Her personality makes lectures so fun!

I think she's a wonderful prof. There have been numerous cancellations, but she always asks if you understand the content prior to writing skill quizzes and will go over it with you in detail. She also gives a tentative schedule so you're always aware of what will be tested. She grades fairly and gives good feedback. She's also very approachable.

Overall good prof, cancels class quite frequently, takes a long time to return essays, sometimes loses train of thought mid-lecture. very approachable and understanding, i would recommend, also there is about 16-20 small quizzes worth 1-3% so attendance is key

I loved having Martha for English 1080 (Now 1090 I believe)! She was always such a fair marker, and left good feedback. Had a few quizzes but I used to do literally 20 minutes of studying max for them. Overall I found her to be a really great prof.

Makes you work super hard. Knows how to organize the lessons. Grades generously, which is very inspiring. And very considerate.

A very sweet lady. She was always easy to contact, answers every question with detail. Is a little picky on the critical reading but that is more so a part of the course and not her herself. by this I mean, large portions of reading are assigned then small details would be tested. I struggled with this but loved her as a prof and as a person.

She is super quirky and full of energy! The only issue ive had is that she takes forever to hand tests back! A very short quiz every class on writing skills or literature(sometimes both). They were a really easy way to help keep my mark up. I had her for eng1090.

Martha was very nice and easily approachable. I never liked English but if you put in at least a little bit of effort the class becomes easy. She does have a lot of tests but most of them were easy. 20 minutes of reading could land you an A+. She also gave good feedback on the essay we had to do. I followed her advice and seen my grade skyrocket.

Martha is a good person who tried her hardest to help her students. There are many quizzes, but you will pass her class if you read the stories she assigns and study the material. Attendance is required because she explains the majority of the material in class to make it easier to understand.

I agree that this is a tough course and I didn't overly like having 3 midterms worth 25% each, despite this I think that she was a very engaging prof, and I enjoyed how interesting she is. In class most things were explained well and she's good for answering questions in class or through email. The course kind of sucks but she was very nice!!
