If you get an A on my paper you can get it published at Harvard - vampire lady
I've never felt so hopeless in a class before.
More of a flake than Tony the Tiger.
by far the worst prof i've ever had unhelpful and no compassion for students who are truly trying in her class
jumps at the chance to accuse students of plagerism
She is my advisor...but where is she? Irresponsible, innattentive and gave me a motive to get a change of advisor form. Dont sign up for a job if you cant live up to it.

If you want us to be able to do something, here's an idea... TEACH IT!!
wrost prof EVER. failed half of my tech writing class (me included) and will jump at the chance to accuse you of plagerism...avoid her at all costs
She's very nice!!...Her exams absolutely suck!!! Don't take her!!!
Knows nothing about tech. writing and covers it up by failing students. Avoid at all costs.
Anti-plagerism queen! Everything is plagerism to this woman!Alot harder than expected. But I actually enjoyed the class. A lot of people failed. Just write like she says for her class (it's tedious, i know) and you can do fine.
you'll definitely never want to plaigerize after having widmayer. her suggestions are helpful, but she rarely has office hours. i guess you could say she's "cuckoo for plaigarists". insane.
Nice lady but can't write a test to save her life! If you have to pick between Sheafer and her... you will have to choose your own devil. Tests are impossible though she swears she goes over everything in class. :( boo
I have never done so poorly in a class. She is a tough grader and enjoys giving students bad grades. Getting a C in her class means that you are a good writer. You won't get an A unless your work is publishable. Avoid unless you like C's.
If you're not Ernest Hemingway, she'll tell you your writing is horrible. If you are Ernest Hemingway, she'll tell you you're too wordy. Contradicts prior lessons, and paints this picture of a world in which one comma splice will cost you your job.
The frowns are undeserved. She's a very sweet lady, she DOES go over everything in class, and I have the notes to prove it. And I only got a B in her class. Tests aren't impossible, just study. I got by with SparkNotes.
I think Dr.Widmayer is one of the greatest I have ever had! She is a sweet lady and I thought her class was very easy. She goes over every thing and makes sure you understand if you go to her for help. I got an A- without even working up a sweat!
We got no direction for our first 2 presentations and little for the last 2. Even if you followed her guidelines you got a B. She knows Shakespeare, but doesn't allow for others to have differing interpretations.
These comments are undeserved. She is helpful, clear, open to interpretation. If you had gone to her office for help, that's what you got, so if you got a bad grade, it is your own lazy fault.
Anyone who rates this professor as poor, doesn't recognize a good teacher when they see one. I am a non-traditional student who is serious about learning and I find that this prof is not willing to inflate grades to please immature, traditional students
"If you get a C, you're average. If you get a B, you're above average. If you get an A, you ought to be attending classes at Harvard." Widmayer is incredibly hard and, unless you are eager for a semester consumed by headaches, avoid her classes.
I too am a non-traditional student, and (unlike a previous poster) I find that the problem with this prof. is not that she refuses to inflate grades for the immature. Rather, she's flat-out hostile to any opinion other than hers. Avoid!
Definitely choose Widmayer for Shakespeare over MPA Sheaffer. Lovely woman... very thorough. Class is very cut and dry... Read the plays closely and study for tests and you'll be fine.
This class did not have clear direction. Most of the time was spent enforcing that if you can't write, you can't get a job. NOT, in the real world--they hire technical writers! Get real and get a book for the class.
Wonderful teacher, very open to opinions, treats everyone as valuable individuals. Tests represent material gone over very clearly in class, anyone who had trouble in the class must not have attended often. Highly recommended.
the strange part of dr. widmayer, is that she is really cool for an older lady, i think every class we have laughed about something...but the essays on her tests are very poorly graded...which leads me to hate it...
really nice lady, but not a good teacher. tests- mult choice is easy if u study for it, but the essays are impossible. u must have the same opinion as her to be able to do well, and u must write exactly how she wants. dont bother asking how thatis becuase she wont tell u, just give u examples avoid!
Nice lady
Wonderful woman...loves teaching and lit, but tests are really hard. multiple choice are okay if you read the story about 20 times. essays are possible, just know the story
She seems like a very nice professor, and in class she always smiles. However, she is very boring and her tests are hard. I read all the stories, took notes in class, and studied for all the tests and still only got a C. Grades essays extremely hard.
very nice older lady, however, she grades extremely hard and expects a lot out of her students

This professor is one of the better profs on campus. The students who made the comments listed below are obviously not college material to begin with. The demeanor shown in the messages shows what type of character the students have that wrote them. Grow up and go back to high school and learn how to write! Aren't these comments monitored?
Used a book that she didn't agree with. Didn't go over things so that we could learn. Graded papers without any certain reasoning. Doesn't like to give out grades more then a C. Very hard to get anything higher.
Horrible teacher. Expected too much for an intro class that people are required to take. You aren't going to get better then a C, no matter if you do everything she asks.
She grades on opinion instead of structure and content. Totally uncool. That isn't what grading is about. She constantly didn't agree with the book she was using, but then didn't explain what she did agree with.
Professor Widmayer is a horrible professor, she is unlcear about everthing she tells us to do, and goes the wrong way about teaching the class, I would have dropped the class if I knew it would be so stupid!
The person who said that you will not get an A "no matter what" obviously did not do the required work. If you didn't read the stories then the test was hard, if you read and paid attention to the lecture it wasn't THAT bad (author info was the hardest part). She also offered extra credit. I got an "A" and loved the course from start to finish!
Whoever gave the comments before are ridiculous. Widmayer is a total doll...just do the readings & work. She obviously loves lit, esp. Shakespeare. Her tests arn't bad if you pay attention & do the work; and she'll clarify anything you don't understand. I would definatly take her again.
I love this woman! She's really sweet and cares about her students. She is sweet and helpful. She offered extra credit and if you do the reading and pay attention in class you will be fine. Study for the tests and make sure you know the stories and poems and you will be in great shape...plus I reccommend doing the extra credit poem. It's a breeze!
You have to read the plays...sparknotes isn't going to cut it if you want to do well. Study as long as she suggests and you can do really well. I personally enjoyed the course--- summer session is a pretty good way to get it over quickly. Take her over Sheaffer, that's for darn sure.
I love Dr. Widmayer! Her classes are sometimes boring because it's nothing but lecture, but she's very clear and you really learn alot from her. People were complaining hardcore about the exam but if you pay attention in class, take notes and study the tests are incredibly easy! They really aren't as bad as most people made them out to be :)
She is absolutely adorable! Tests are detailed but easy if you study hard. Class is extremely interesting and always a pleasure to attend. I am only bothered by the fact that she asks students to read outloud, which is a bit elementary. She is a wonderful preofessor.
I am not very fond of her. . . at all. . . she's a horrible prof. . . not to mention she's extremly rough on grading. . .
You can really tell she loves to teach this course. She will even sit up front until everyone leaves to see if anyone has any questions or just wants to talk about what class was about. Very nice woman. Tests are kind of hard though, especially the Essay parts to cover full pages.
She only gives 3 tests for the whole semester! and they're REALLLLY hard!!
The second hardest class I have ever taken!! Details, details, details! There is no question she will not ask. Read and study everything!!
Very hard. Make sure you do your yoga or the stress from this class will kill you.
I love Shakespeare, but this class was almost a death sentence for me. The only grades for the semester were three tests, and they were all very difficult. She expects direct quotes from the plays, but you cannot use the text. She repeats herself an awful lot, as well. I would not recommend, but this class is a necessary evil, I suppose.
I actually like the class because she keeps it interesting. However, the tests are so hard that I end up getting frustrated and not enjoying literature. The whole class is memorization, not comprehension. Her teaching style is the opposite of everything that I have learned in education classes. An interesting class, but not worth taking!
She's a very nice lady. Yes people say that she is boring but if you sit and listen it is interesting. She's a very good story teller and she makes what would be deathly boring material, into slightly enjoyable "story time" type material. I am by no means an english type or one for reading literature, but I am truely enjoying this class. She's cool
GRAD STUDENTS BEWAREW! I had a 4.0 going into this class and barely survived. She graded all of the grad students the same--a"D" on every essay. She expects you to memorize lines from the plays and to quote them in your essay. She prides herself on challenging you but is unrealistic in her expectations. The worst teaching style! DO NOT DO IT!!
I enjoyed her lectures; she is very thorough. Exams are not easy, but if you take notes and read through the works twice, you'll be okay. Also, listen carefully to what she wants from you in your essays.
Takes herself and the class far too seriously, esp. for an intro course. Tests are filled with ridiculous attention to insignificant details and if you don't write an essay worthy of publishing, you will get an automatic D or fail. It's Millersville lady, not Princeton..get over yourself. Would not recommend at all, avoid avoid avoid
Know your grammar and punctuation extremely well, if not she will tear your papers apart. she's a very nice lady just go to her for extra help in the beginning if you feel you are starting off on the wrong foot!
Dr. Widmayer taught me more in one class about grammar & punctuation than I learned throughout high school. I will always remember her as the best teacher I ever had.
Right in the beggining she says that she is going to be a tough teacher. Most of my class thought it was a scare tactic.... it became true. Example. I caught the flu for a week and even though i had a doctor's note, she was going to make me do a group project on my own because i missed class. My group still put my name on the project.
I'm sad to see so many frowny faces, I loved this professor! Her teaching style was so interesting to me, and she has a great sense of humor. Tests weren't that hard, as long as you read the stuff and took notes in class. I loved her point of view on issues, and she obviously loves literature. Just do what she asks and you will do fine
Stay away from this professor!!! Her tests are wicked hard even if you study, she uses trick questions and the essays are not fair! I think she has an obsession about death, everything we read was about death, enough already, how depressing!! Do not take her, unless you like to fail classes.
She makes a strong connection between Shakespeare and the human condition. He has become suddenly accessible!
Hardest professor ever. There were three test and no curve on any of them. She took months to hand things back and even then would leave no comments to tell you what you did wrong. This can and nost likely will kill your GPA.
Ugh. The worst. Totally arbitrary grading system.
Horribly dull. Never been more bored in my life. I'm an English major and I've never despised an English course more in my life. She sits on the desk and talks in a low, monotone voice for the entire class. No discussions. No essays. Nothing to make you think. Need to know useless details for test- awful if you actually love literature and English.
Reading and discussions with very few, but difficult, tests. You have to be interested in literature to enjoy this class.
I like this professor. She is nice lady but... she killed my GPA. No realistic marking. All in-class essays and no outside work to balance these hard essays. Punctuation, sentence structure, you better know it. Now I have to work my butt off to get GPA back up again. This class should be called "No guard rails ahead".
Tests consist of trivial, normally useless information. She's late to every class, and office hours are almost always delayed by 20 minutes if not more. Do not take her class unless you are super confident in reading/literature skills.
Great teacher, but very hard. If you want to get an A, don't take her. She clearly states her expectations, and that most people get a C in her class. She is not kidding. If you want to be better at grammar, this class will be good, but I think it was way too hard of a class for an intro class.
I love this woman. She is really hard, but she makes so many great current connections to Shakespeare. If you want an A you have to work extremely hard (about 20-25 hours of studying) but it's so worth it. She is nice and really accessible. Tip: find the plays on No Fear Shakespeare and then go back and read the original for the exam.
Blah. Really tough grader. Her tests are soo hard and you have to know the lit book in details.. if you want an A...good luck you would probably have to study 20 hours a week. I suggest taking a different prof unless you are good at this literature stuff.
Probably one of the most difficult classes I've personally had at MU, and the thing is...it's a 230 level class. The tests literally require you to have each story memorized...it's frustrating. She's a nice professor though.
Horrible. Please do yourself a favor and avoid her class! Take English Comp with someone else. It will seriously kill your GPA and demolish your interest for English. WARNING DO NOT TAKE! If I could give her a 0 (ZERO) rating I definitely would!
Though she is difficult when she grades, the discussions that spur in class are very inviting and she encourages you to speak your opinion, unlike some professors. Her tests are challenging though. It helps to use study techniques like seeing the play live or seeing a video and reading the text.
I had her for english comp and intro to lit. She's a pretty tough grader, but she tells you that and there are no surprises. The entire class is based on test grades with essays on them. You have to learn the literature well and study a lot, or you will fail. She expects a lot out of you, but it is college and I learned A LOT from her.
Boring class if you don't participate. Read the stories over and over again until you know every little detail, even the most unimportant detail can be asked about on the test. Your essays on tests better touch on every poin in the stories or you will fail them. Only take her if your good at literature.
Stay away! She goes over every detail of the stories and expects you to give more specific examples not based on the notes. She tells you that details are unneeded at the beginning of the class, but THIS IS A LIE. She expects the smallest details to be known.
She expects way too much for a little essay. She wants the smallest details for everything, even when she says she does not want quotes. It is the only way to get points. I will never willingly take her again.
Great professor, passionate about her course. Expectations are a little high when it comes to her essays but her tests are super easy if you read and show up to class.
Difficult, but enjoyable course. Widmayer is passionate about Shakespeare, and also very kind. The textbook is not necessary if you can buy each play you are going to read, but make sure the copies have line numbers. I would love to take another class with her. Expect to read and re-read. Take close notes! Provide LOTS of evidence for your essays.
She is the best choice for Shakespeare, hands down. She parallels the situations and characters in Shakespeare's plays to current society. It really makes it fun. Read the plays people. She is pretty hard on the essays on the test, know the stuff. If you can afford it I recommend taking it over the summer, 4 weeks that breeze by quickly.
As an English major, I have heard nightmare stories about Shakespeare. However, I really enjoyed this class. I had to work very hard for my grade (studied more than 14 hours for each test) but I learned a lot. I definitely recommend her for this class.
Shakespeare can be a daunting class, but Widmayer really made it enjoyable. You have to read the plays and participate in class; this is not a course you can just coast through! Exams are challenging, so you have to put in a lot of study hours. However, all the work is definitely worth it. I learned a lot and had a great experience thanks to her!
I don't know why there are a lot of negative comments; I loved taking Eng 230 with her! It was a 3 hour night class but she kept it really interesting asking deep philosophical questions connecting to the stories. Her explanation of the stories are really clear. Just make sure you read them and know them really well and you'll be fine.
If you just want an easy A, don't take Widmayer. She is not an easy professor, but her classes are challenging, interesting, engaging, and rewarding. I had to work very hard for my grade, but I learned (and still remember!) quite a lot. She is a nice and helpful person, and really wants to see her students succeed. Best Shakespeare professor at MU!
One of the worst professors I have EVER had. She is not helpful at all, and the tests are IMPOSSIBLE!!!!!!!!! There is no way you will pass this class unless you are a literary genius. This is absolutely NOT a class to take for an easy A. She is an impossible grader. There are only 3 tests and no participation points. Good luck.
Save your gpa and do not take this course! It is a lot of reading and uncessary not taking! She's not very you do not understand some of the content discussed in class. She is also very forgetful and her syllabus is very unclear and vague. This class was a drag!!! SAVE YOUR GPA !!!
She's a nice enough lady, and she definitely knows her stuff. However, her tests are crushingly hard. The grade was based on just three exams, each of which were incredibly difficult and essentially required memorizing the entire plays the tests were on.
NEVER TAKE HER! She told my class that she believes C's are a good grade. Unless you agree with this you will not like her class. The whole year she gave out 1 or 2 B's or A's. If you take this class good luck it sucks and is a lot of book work for grammar.
Don't ever take a class from this professor. She is easily one of the hardest graders I have ever witnessed and her standards are completely ridiculous. She grades the entire grade off of three exams, that is it! You mess any of those up tough luck! I personally will never take another class from her and will warn others to beware as well.
By FAR the hardest professor I have ever had! Not worth talking this class.. SAVE YOUR GPA! I loved English before taking this class. Now it is my least favorite subject. She only gives two tests and a final exam. You do bad on one test and your grade will suffer the rest of the semester. She doesn't believe in extra credit and lectures are long!!
At the beginning of the year, she told us that she doesn't believe in giving grades above a C for essays. She truly stuck to her word. I had a paper with no marking she gave it a 75, when I asked her why, she said that I should be truly happy with my grade and that she thought it was a great essay. DO NOT TAKE HER. C+ was highest grade in class.
She's hilarious and the lectures are super funny. If you're an English major, you show up, and you pay attention, YOU WILL PASS. I didn't read most of the plays "closely" (though I did go in with background knowledge for some) and I got a B. DO NOT take Shaffer for Shakespeare bc you heard Widmayer's tough! Widmayer is your only reliable option.
I would never take a class from her again and will warn all other students to take Intro to Lit with another professor. She goes way too fast, and expects you to take notes on everything she says. Your grade is based off of 3 exams which are very difficult even for a good student. Do not take a class with this professor.
Our class was graded on a few grammar tests and about 6 in-class essays (you don't get to write outside of class). She is a tough grader on essays so take your time in class to plan and read the material she gives you in class over again to thoroughly understand everything. It's kinda her way or the highway.
Her classes can be kind of boring but she's a really sweet woman. Your grade is determined by three tests and three tests only. If you don't study, you won't pass.
