This class was so boring! I took it thinking that it would be interesting and very fun to learn about. But after taking this class I wish that i would have gotten a teacher that did more than teach off powerpoints and go off on tangents that would go on and on. READ THE BOOK!!
Sort of monotone. Goes by powerpoints but his research and psych history stories are really interesting. Reading chapters is crucial for his essay questions.
Great Teacher, I am planning on taking him again in the future. he gives in class and take home tests- but they are essay. He is very helpful. He will work with you if you have a problem. I really enjoyed the class.
Face it, experimental psych isn't always the most interesting topic, and baring dancing on the desk i don't think this teacher could have done any better! Used interesting examples in class when possible, was very understanding about student workloads, very clear, and very very helpful! I (actually) learned a lot in class and he grades very fairly
Class was long. Tests were hard. Read the whole book and test seemed to be written in a diffrent language. the first two test averages were 66 and 68. but he gives you a chance to make up the ones you get wrong for extra credit. he is very understanding and helpful. will change assignement due dates if too much work was due on that day. good teach
Dr. Bourgeois is awesome. He's so smart and makes the class fun and interesting. His tests are so hard, but he gives you chances to fix grade. You also have to write 2 APA term papers, he breaks them up into sections and makes it so much easier to write not bad at all and I am taking him again next sememster!
I'm a student from when he used to teach at the Univ of Wyoming, & I tracked him down all the way here just to tell you how much I admired & appreciated him as a professor. The 2 classes I took from him weren't easy, but they were just the right amount of difficulty to make me learn the material well. He will probably always be my favorite prof.
A stick in the mud. Very knowledgable however does not care for the well being of the student. Did not miss class however did not help my grade. Spoke often as required (others did not)and was not rewarded for my participation.I should of shut up. Seems this prof is a good of example of what NOT to become (freaky) in the psych field.
He is an awesome teacher. I was a little nervous at first after reading about his test but he is extremely fair and lets you make up points you missed on the exams. He makes the class fun and interesting. He really cares for his students. I suggest him as a professor!
Professor speaks fast. Expects you to understand and read book completely. Hard Tests. I would not recommend taking Experimental Psy in the summer. Long classes and hard to understand
He is a very helpful teacher, understanding and caring for students. Exams and papers are not easy but very doable if you study. Professor is pretty humble and a little shy,and as you get to know him better you feel pretty comfortable approaching him if you need any help. Take him!
I have had professor Bourgeois since my freshmen year of college. I have had him every year since voluntarily because he is the most fair teacher I have ever taken. Yes you have to read the text book but he goes over the material in his lectures and always gives study guides to the test that are very helpful. I recommend him. 2 thumbs up!

Very fair teacher. Makes subject interesting.
He seems like a very nice person, however i did not like his teaching strategy. the whole book on powerpoints with 4 exams. very hard to pass, class avg was in the low c range. if you like listening to someone read the book for 3 hours and then having to go home and read everything all over then this is the class for you. Goodluck
Class was extremely long, but as long as you read the book and study before the exams, you'll get an A. He is very understanding when it comes to his students and doesn't expect things that are unreasonable. Participate in as many extra credit opportunities as possible!
What I loved about Professor Bourgeois is that he put things in such terms. He does expect you to know the material in the book and gives you as many opportunities possible to get a good grade in his class. If you're intersted in the field of Psychology/Social Sciences, taking a class with Dr. Bourgeois is the best option. AWESOME professor!!
He is an AMAZING professor! His lectures are interesting, varied and helpful. He cares about his students and is knowledgeable about the field of psychology. The exams are hard, (including multiple choice, fill in blanks and essays) but if you put forth the work, you'll pass with flying colors. Attendance is not mandatory, however text used often.
I had Dr. Bourgeois for Gen. Psych. and he was extremely lenient, helpful and made class fun. Although our class lectures were long, he would break them up and do fun activities in between to keep you engaged. As far as tests go,read the book, do the practice quizzes on-line and you should do very good. He also allows many Xtra credit opportunites.
Dr. Bourgeouis is hands down the coolest psych professor on campus!!!!!
do as many extra credits you can AND READDD THE CHAPTERS
STAY AWAY!!! I loved psychology but he made me want to shoot myself. I took a 3 hour class w/ 180 kids. DONT DO IT! You will leave half way. Take it two days a week with a smaller class. We would start out with 180 kids...2 hours into it we had MAYBE half that stayed. He's cool, but only 3 tests.... THATS IT! Good luck!
Marty is a great guy, he's always down to tip em back at Ale House with students in his class. Great guy overall.
GREAT TEACHER! I loved this class, you do need to go to every class(helps with extra credit) and study, online site is helpful! But he's very fair, fun, and gives plenty of extra credit! My favorite teacher this semester, and I definitely would recommend him.
I thought I would like psy, but not anymore.I BARELY got a B-.There are a total of four or five tests, about 100+ multiple choice questions each I think.I got horrible grades on all except final even tho I studied.Final is super easy if you keep and study all your old tests ;).He is nice but boring at times...DO ALL EXTRA CREDIT OFFERED,and attend c
Took this class over summer session. This was my second class that I have taken with Marty, and I think he is so great! Best psych teacher! I had general psych my first year, and I really enjoyed his teaching style. Be sure to go to all the lectures, and study hard for the exams (use lecture notes and book) and you will be fine! Good luck :)
great teacher. grades based on tests and journal entries and additional bonus points offered. you are expected to have read the chapter before the discussions but powerpoints are thorough and helpful. attendance is not mandatory but very useful. he is really nice and answers any questions and has a great psych background and tells you whats on test
My favorite professor ever. I enjoyed his content and interesting lectures. Tests aren't hard if you go to class. I got and A on all 4 tests he even puts up a study guide which has the exact questions and answers that are on the tests. He curved each test grades like 5-10 points.
I had Dr. B for Research Methods. The subject itself is soooo boring, but he does his best to keep it interesting. He is a bit scattered, and is not always clear in his expectations so its best to just ask him personally what he wants for an assignment. He is very kind spirited and definitely knows his subject.
It's not his fault that the subject itself is pretty boring, which made the lectures REALLY boring. But he tried his best. I took the course over the summer, and for the time he had, we covered a lot and really well. The class work was easy and the tests were a bit hit-and-miss, you just HAVE to study. And make sure to start the paper early!!
I only skipped maybe two classes, but I would NOT suggest doing so! There were three classes that I went to that not a lot of people were there for and he rewarded us every time. The reward was adding SIX POINTS to your FINAL grade. He is a very funny guy and gives examples that make the subjects easier to understand.
Solid teacher. I don't go to class at all and I have a solid 80. At first you'd think just 4 tests at 100 questions each is intimidating, but I study 2-3 days before, reading the chapters roughly a week before and I manage High C's on the tests. With the 11 drop box assignments (that are so easy) you can easily manage a B if you're not a moron.
Professor B was such a cool, laid back french guy! He often showed funny or interesting video clips from youtube. Going to class helps (he gives bonus points when he sees not many students showing up for his class) but reading the chapters is almost necessary to get an A in the class. The final is optional which is nice! I took the (easy) final.
Bourgeois was a good professor. He tried to make the subject easy for us, which was great since it is very boring. I took it during the summer, so all of us were doing the same experiment, so it wasn't too bad at all. He's really nice.
I recommend taking it in the summer, there are 3 exams and no research project for the summer semester. Show up to class and take notes while he lectures, read the book, and you'll do fine. Exams are pretty straight forward, but some material is from lecture and not book. He is a nice guy and the class is fun.
Had him for the summer semester and thought the class was pretty easy. We didn't even have to write a research paper, there were only 3 exams. You do have to read the book and take notes when he lectures, but as long as you do, the exams aren't that tough. Overall, wonderful professor and fairly interesting class.
Not very interesting subject. Ok class overall.
Fun class. Didnt have to do a research paper which was nice.
I love Dr Marty. He's so nice, down to earth, and helpful. He does a great job teaching and integrating the entire class in discussion. Don't get on his bad side- not that he's mean, but he's the Psych department chair. Go to every class even though he says it's not mandatory. He notices if you're not there. I really love social psych now.
Cool professor. He's unintentionally rude sometimes and goes off on long tangents during lectures. Tests are pretty difficult...it's necessary that you read the book.
Basically the greatest professor known to man. If you're lucky enough to take his social psychology class you're blessed. Dr. Bourgeois is truly an excellent professor and if you are not interested in social psych, then you will be after you take his class.
Bourgeois is really funny! I took Research methods over Summer B and I only went to like 3 classes and passed with an A. He super nice and really understanding. He definitely wants you to pass. He is a little unorganized, but really a great professor!
His lectures are boring, he often goes off on tangents. I wouldn't take him again nor would I recommend him. His says that attendance isn't mandatory but he will penalize you for missing class.
Dr. Bourgeois was an awesome professor. For the research paper he graded each part individually which was so helpful, instead of doing the whole paper at one time. His tests are tough but as long as you study and go to class you will do great! I would definitely take him again.
He likes lecturing about research studies. These may or may not be part of the tests. Read the book and come to class esp. during group projects. He can be a bit sassy/snippy with student questions/responses in class so makes sure you speak coherently and w/e you say is relevant. Also, he likes Bob Dylan.
This was a DIRECTED STUDY, so there were NO tests, quizzes, homework, etc. We helped Dr. B carry out an experiment and it was a lot of fun! DIRECTED STUDIES AWARD ALL STUDENTS A GRADE OF A IF THEY PARTICIPATE. So basically, we just got certified to experiment with human subjects, spent about 4 hours a week doing a fun experiment, and DONE! DO THIS!
Dr. Bourgeios is one of the best professors at FGCU. He is clear, you know what your grade is, and he is always willing to help. As long as you spend a few hours a week on his class (as every student should), go to class, ask for help when you need it, and turn in assignments on time, you will get an A. Great professor; take him! You will learn.
He is very clear & gives thorough lectures. He wants us to learn, so do your part as students by reading & attending lectures. I still remember some of his lectures & am grateful he is at FGCU. I look forward to Stats with him in the future! And yes, he does like Bob Dylan which is AWESOME!
This class was made up of five short exams and the one 10-ish page paper. The experiment you run with surveys is done in a group, but the paper is individual, which is really nice. Lectures are long. Tests can be wordy and require a lot of studying. If you go to class, he usually tells you the short answer questions. Multiple choice are difficult.
This guy really cares about his students, but you have to put in the work too. He understands stats is hard for many and tries his best to clarify things so we understand. He can go a little too fast during lecture and SPSS activities would work best as follow-along tutorials, but he's overall just a great/dedicated prof. I will miss him!
He is impossible to get ahold of outside of the classroom. He shows no personal interest in students. He comes to class to lecture and not be asked questions. It is sad really...I was a graduating senior and he was the worst by far... Material is easy, just not exciting...
Good prof. No complaints. Read the book and show up for class and you will pass.
He is pretty rude to students, seems like he does not want to be there at all. I know Research Methods is a boring class but imagine how we feel as students. Lectures are tangents about his past experiments. Also, told our class how impossible it is to get into grad school as if we weren't already worried enough about it.
I loved this professor! He's super helpful with SPSS and running the tests for your project. He is super flexible and I missed a couple exams due to illnesses and he allowed me to make them up with no questions asked or doctors note. Don't bother emailing him with anything because he won't respond, go to his office directly or in class.
Knowledgeable when it comes to Research for Psy, but he is so lecture heavy it is not even funny. He can lecture on two slides all class period long if you allow him to but he just wants to emphasize the material. Nice guy, easy grader, long exams, READ THE TEXTBOOK. I took him during summer B so it was a VERY long and boring 6 weeks.
He really understands when things pop up and helps you catch up on the topic.
Professor Bourgeois is not a bad professor just a little boring. He teaches a different topic every week and lectures off of a PowerPoint. There's a quiz at the end every week, they're straight from the PowerPoint and very easy. You have to do a presentation on a topic of your choice, which is not very hard. There's also no final, which is nice.
Great professor, easy to pass exams if you study. Research project will be group work. Get the textbook because you definitely won't pass with just the PowerPoints.
Bourgeois is a great professor. He doesn't go too fast going over the powerpoints, and he loves to tell elaborate stories of other psych experiments to explain concepts. The test are pretty easy. Count how many times he says "I'm a social psychologist." Lol
YOU HAVE TO READ THE BOOK TO PASS THE EXAMS. There's 5 exams and 1 research paper. He's a super easy grader so the research paper is really easy.
I took his Summer B course. DO NOT TAKE. You will have a test every class over the next chapter. You are expected to retain 60 pages of the chapter in one day. Its almost impossible to get a good grade on those test. Our class average was horrible! He lectures for the whole 4 hours.
I LOVED this professor and his class. He was kind and engaging; I liked being in his class. The weekly quizzes were easy if you read and paid attention in class and there was no final or cumulative tests. It was interesting and one of the only college classes I have actually enjoyed.
I love Dr. B! Fav psych prof @FGCU! He's super kind & mellow, very helpful with research papers & test feedback. Tests u have to study for, cuz the info is boring & tedious, but necessary for the class. Group research assignment teaches you a lot about quality paper writing. I am pursuing research from this class currently with him; a great mentor!
5 exams, 10 lab reports, 4 research paper drafts, thats it. I like his style of teaching, my friend sitting next to me hated it. He bounces back and forth a lot, he'll give you a lot of examples to wrap your mind around the material. If your class does well he'll use class time for reviews. Take good notes and you'll ace the tests
I love Dr. B, he is such an amazing professor. Your participation matters within this class because there are class discussions and you are graded on them. Do not worry they are not hard. His lectures, while I am online he posts lectures that I find intriguing. He is very caring, he has helped me a lot with tech issues. Overall and amazing prof.
I took his completely virtual Honors Psychology class. I received close to a 100 percent in the class. As long as the journal entry is done each week and you take your time on the unmonitored quizzes each week you will receive the same grade. He is very passionate about the subject which keeps you intrigued. Definitely pick him for psychology.
As the year progresses, there are a lot of group discussions but they are relatively easy questions. Make sure to read the chapters fairly thoroughly so you are familiar with the content. Each quiz was 10 questions and there are 10 minutes to answer all of them. Overall a relatively easy class. There is no midterm or final exam, which is nice
General Psych with him is the easiest class you will take in college. There is one online quiz and one online short journal post every week which will take you less than 10 minutes to complete both. He literally tells you to search for the answers on google. I've gotten a 100 on every assignment I've done in that class. Easiest GPA boost!
He is a sweet and cute older man. The class material is painfully boring, but it is an essential course. There are super easy weekly discussion boards, a quiz (on quizlet), and a lab report (graded very easily). There are also 4 paper drafts of a research report. Those are also easily graded. No exams. Might not be interesting, but is an easy A.
his lectures can be a bit boring or all over the place. however, i grew to like the guy. he is definitely very passionate about his studies and research.
I go in once a week for an hour. The lectures you have to go to because we do a lecture and lab. You can only do the lab in class but overall very easy class. You have to do the lab, two discussions, and a 15 question quiz but, the discussions are very easy as well as the other assignments. You get a 100 for doing the lab.
My class was half virtual. met once a week to do some spss data assignment. Throughout the week you were expected to read chapters and do 2 discussions and a quiz. He allowed you to use anything, internet , textbook, whatever. Tests are online as well. Towards the end of the semester you need to do a lab report. He explains it well, still hard tho.
This class was easy! There are three assignments a week and about ten straight forward lab reports. I probably put in less than an hour a week into this class. As long as you pay attention to due dates it's an easy class.
He is a bit of a dull teacher and lectures get a bit winded HOWEVER, if you show up to class you'll get great grades!
If you're going to Research Methods take it with HIM! So laid-back, gives you input on what you need to do to improve your paper drafts, and so much more. If I took another professor over him I don't think I would've been able to get an A. I'm a psych minor too so I was a lil scared but Bourgeois truly helped ease my nerves and provide guidance!
Professor Bourgeois is a really sweet and understanding guy. You have to do the dreaded 8-10 page long research paper but he does it in increments so a couple of pages are due every few weeks, makes it a lot easier. We do everything with SPSS in class and he is super helpful. Easy grader, hes the best professor to take for research methods by far!
He was very kind and helped you succeed if you didn't understand. He made SPSS make sense. He was not a harsh grader, I actually made a few mistakes in my research paper and he didn't deduct me for it. I would recommend.
Professor Bourgeois was a delight in class. He helped me understand statistics (which is a large part of this class) better than my own statistics professor. I wouldn't say this is an easy course, but it is doable if you keep up with the assignments and the research paper you do all semester. Overall, a great guy, would take him again.
I would definitely recommend him! He sets you up for success and loves to help if you are confused. I was so worried about taking this class and taking it with him eased my worries! 10/10 definitely take him!
The class was disorganized, In the beginning, there are A few assignments based on a reading that he provides. There is one large project, and a large research paper. Multiple discussions are due every week, based on the project that people have submitted. Aim for about 4 to 5 assignments a week. difficult to get a hold of.
Professor Bourgeois was awesome! Take this summer class and Pipitone's techniques class at the same time (they overlap & it's really manageable). About 2 chapters per week (PowerPoint slides, lectures, & readings), a quiz per chapter, and 2 discussions per chapter; 4 exams, 4 paper drafts (you build on each one), and a couple of lap reports. YAY!!
Took him for mini B term and he did a good job pacing the class. Labs on SSPS were done in person the rest was asynchronous. There is a research paper but he splits it up into sections to do so it is less overwhelming. Not a harsh grader and gives good feedback. Overall a pretty easy class and I learned a lot from it! Definitely take this professor
