VERY unhelpful, self-absorbed, and rude. He has definitely been the worst teacher I've ever taken at LACC.
He is a very good teacher.If you are a Science major you definitely need to take him. He gives a lot of homework, the exams aren’t easy and you really need to study a lot. I learned a lot from him, I’m not a Science major and I got a “B”. If he really sees you’re trying he will help you and give you extra credit.

Leaves a lot, a lot of work and the work is due on the same day as the test so he doesn't even give you time to study. I do not recommend him. If you do your work and go to class everyday and he see's you working, at the end he will give you the higher grade.
Oh My God!!! Im so confused, the lectures are the worst he goes through everything so fast u dont even know what the hell he's talkin' about. Labs are ok so far but damn... slow down dude. He is so full of himself b/c he is educated... whatever that means. He needs to chill and relax not stress the hell out of us. Have a beer or somethin', chill!
Nice mentality on Biology, but takes no responsibility over his method of TEACHING. A professor should not just present the materials and not deviate about his credentials. You're a professor, we know already! According to him, out of 300 students, only 1 person recieved an A on her/his exam. There's something wrong with that.

I really enjoyed his teaching method. He is extrememly helpful. Though, he gives you a lot of work but it helps you understand the material. Really nice man!!
****!! goes off on tangents, irrelevant lectures, stubborn and annoying. i had a B and started failing the class because i would challenge his ideas and he'd respond with "you have an F for the day, get out of my class" horrible teacher, i think you leave the class with less knowledge that with what you come in.
Teacher is very helpful although he does give you A LOT of work to do both for the lecture and lab. Covers a lot of material in short amount of time. Easy to get an A if ur good at memorizing and remembering essay questions. Make sure to sit w/ ppl that will actually do work for grp exercise and reports, it doesn't help to have a lazy group.

This professor has a low ability to recognize student's hardwork and participation. After all he only rely on his class points
Very hard to follow, constantly goes off on wild tangents. Difficult to deduce relevant information amongst all the crap. Doesn't actually know much outside of the textbook, so answers are often very limited. First test had questions from chapters we hadn't even covered, but we were expected to know. Spends a lot of time preaching, not teaching.
This Teacher is rude, disrepectful and does not Know how to teach! I think the reason Lacc continues to keep Mr.Garcia on the pay roll because they can't afford to fire him. His lectures are inconsistent, He continueously screams and yells at the class "like a mad man." every day! He does not like to acknowledge when he's wrong.
Garcia isn't your everyday professor. He's eccentric and sometimes unclear. But you can always ask him questions. The labs are quite interesting and you WILL use your books that cost $170+ .DO NOT take his class if you're not ready to work your ass off for a decent grade. He expects college level work from all COLLEGE students. Always do the hw!!!
If you ask him questions, he will pretend to know the answers by saying yes,he would not explain. He only counts the class points and does not pay attention for participation and effort.He gives trumendous amount of lab.activities and homework plus his exams are very tough.I would not recommend him,he has terrible personality as a college professor

Garcia is a pretty chill guy, he gives a lot of busy works and tests. The labs take a lot of time and there are also lab reports. We turn in most works in group, so get in a smart lab group if you can. The tests are super easy. If you study, you will do fine. I do all my studying last minutes and I end up with a B.
he can be intimidating at first but he is the most warm-hearted professor in LACC!!! he really gives 200% help to students who really need help so what can go wrong?! JUST DO YOUR HOMEWORK AND SHOW UP IN LAB TIME!
We just took his 1st test, just one A in a class of 32. His class is too tedious. He makes a four credit class feel like a 6 credit class.
He's getting a bad wrap. If you want a free ride, drop or don't take this class! He'll make you work every class but will walk you through everything until you get it. If you get a bad grade on the test? You didn't do the homework...simple as that.

Garcia is one of the best teachers on campus. He is smart, funny, keeps you interested, and while you may actually have to work in his class *gasp* he makes you earn your grade and will gladly write recommendations for those students who did do work in his class. If you are lazy, or don't want to do anything in college, don't take him.
He is a joke.He was so concerned about some issues, that cannot focus on his job, which is teaching+in college level it's hard to accept retarded answers. I dont think that he was so hard, i got an A. Just memorize the HW and review the essay questions. Whats so hard about that? True he is all bark and no bite. I realized that when i asked for help on certain concepts from him. Maybe the previous people are not ready for college lol.He's a pretty cool guy, and take his class if you want to learn.
Demeaning and disrespectful. I am getting an A and just dropped because I can't stand the level of disrespect. Teaching is about building people up, all he does is break you down. Don't EVER take this class! I have never dropped a class that I have worked so hard in and done so well in, but it's not worth being shamed everyday by Garcia.
He gives a LOt of homework. But the tests are based on the Hw s so if you do the hw youll be all set up.I learned a lot from his class and i think he is very helpfull if you are a science major.
If you have a major having to do with science, TAKE HIM!!!! If this is a transfer/grad req go with someone else. He will expect a lot from you, but sets a good foundation for your future science classes. Class started with 32 students, ended with 16.
Mr. Garcia is extremely dedicated to his profession. He is training students who will become future Doctors and nurses. He is serious about biology, he gives tons of work. He works one day a week for free to help tutor his students and provides an excellent tutoras well. His class is difficult. Do the work and labs and you will pass.
He hates the world and we are all included, so you do the math!
Horrible professor, just took him for fall 09. Whenever we asked a simple question outside the book he doesnt know the answer or says "thats for higher classes". Another problem was that he was a compulsive liar.He is a big hypocrite.He has something against UCLA. Do not recommend to anyone. It sucks he is the only bio 3 teacher in the daytime
ALWAYS ANGRY. He always greets the class with a frown and complains about the night class. MEAN. When he was teaching about skin diseases, he said, "Did you see what's on his skin? EWW YUCK!" IGNORANT. He calls homosexuality a "lifestyle" and is unaware it's not a matter of choice.
NOT for slackers. If you fall into this category, you'll probably drop him quick. He'll give you more work than any other teacher at LACC. Isn't the type of professor who would pity you. He expects you to be a responsible adult and do you work. class is very balanced so if you're bad at tests you can still pass the class. it's hard but doable.

Professor Garcia is a great teacher, Although this class was difficult and a lot of work he is determine to make you learn. He reserves all the good lab equipment for his students not "el cheap-o." if you take his class I recommend you don't miss any lectures, labs and that you keep up with all your work, because it's hard to catch up onece you fall behind. I had a great experience taking this class and learned a lot.
If bio is your major TAKE HIS CLASS!!! your going to learn a lot. His class is design for students that like to learn and are not afraid of doing homework. In order to get a good grade you must go to class do the homework. The test are easy since they are multiple choose and essay question from your homework.

Very very nice man and good educator...there is a lot of homework and lab work but if you work hard you will be fine. Prof. Garcia is a solid teacher ready to spend extra time anytime. Recommended.

Dont get me wrong the class and material gets kind of though but professor garcia offers his help to all his students. His lectures are very clear and he even gives you hints on what will be on the test. The test are everything that he states and what is on the books and even gives you notes!!! Very nice and well educated man loved his class :)
Professor Garcia is a good instructor that loves teaching. I took him in the Spring of 2010 and the class was GREAT! If you find the class difficult, don't hesitate and ask the professor ANYTHING! No one should be intimidated by him. In the end, Garcia is pretty chill, but hard! If you want to learn take him!
Great class for learning. His lectures are easy to stay focused on. He likes to help students who want to be there. He has no patience for slackers and whiners. It is a lot of work and reading, but you will learn a lot. Tests are challenging but easy to prepare for. One of the best profs Ive had so far.

His class is very hard. Lots of work and tests are not so easy. While he does tell you what is on the tests, you will have to learn a lot or memorize a lot if you do not understand material you will fall behind. He also has something against "loners". So if you are the quiet type beware. I worked my ass off to pass this class. Good luck!
He is a really bad grader. He doesn't give full credit for anything, I think its because he wants you to feel not as smart as him. His lectures are ok, complains a lot though. And always says he's going to call the police for some reason. I recieved a C but I'm taking it over with anothor teacher, who teaches students instead of grilling students.
Mr Garcia is a difficult teacher. His Lectures are unclear, and he often goes of subject. The first hour of Class he complains and laughs at students who try to get ahead of subject. In our class he was often angry and critical. Mostly everything comes from the book, I learned everything from there.he also says he's to call the police on students
Mr. Garcia is a very hard working man and he makes you work to earn yr grades. He gives all his notes, study guides. If u do the work,u will do well in his class.4 sure his class is not 4 lazy people. PS: he's not tough as his appearence. if u you need help just ask him, he is actually very nice. I have nothing to complain about him. :)
Mr Garcias lectures are unclear and consisted of him having a power trip and often going off tangents about how educated he is. I learned mostly from tutors and the book. Instead of complaining and gloating he should educate his students. Hes also rude especially if you wish to learn more, he doesnt seem to want his students to succeed. :(
Best be prepared before lecture by studying the book. He's not the best lecturer, but then he's very willing to address questions. Lets loose inflammatory comments quite often; just let it slide. If you don't like reading, you might have a problem getting a high grade in his class (because, really, you NEED to read the book if you want an A).
If you are a hard-working student, take Garcia's class. He has high standards and will push you to your nerd-limits. He gives credit where credit is due and is very helpful. i took him for summer his lecture tests were exactly like the homework just memorize the hw got A on all my tests, he is a bad teacher he only talks about himself and how people complain about him on the other hand his lab is easy but tests are really hard. i ended up with a very high B,1 percent away from an A but he didnt give it to me
If you are a science major who cares about learning science the correct way, then you have to take him. If you are lazy, want an easy A, don't care about science, closed minded, then move on. His class will be fun, entertaining, and you'll learn a lot. But like i say, if you're lazy then don't even think about it. Why go to school at all?
He pushes you the extra mile, it is a difficult but informative class, especially for a non major Biology course.
Prof. Garcia is by far one of the best teachers at LACC. If you're looking for an easy A, its not gonna happen. This class is for people who want to succeed and learn biology the right way. Lazy? yeah...no. He's compassionate to people who care. Period.
I'm currently taking his class and could not get any harder.I always need to look at the book to understand the material.His HW is kind of easy but the essay responses aren't and they are worth a lot.He doesn't really offer any help in the lab.This class has stressed me a lot and I can't keep up with other classes.
You will need the book and perfect attendance to pass. 10 page lab report due every week. Prepare to not sleep or not keep up in your other classes. Spends an hour ranting in lab leaving little time to complete experiment. Follow precise directions or prepared to be scolded like a child. Homework not too hard.
I'm struggling in my other classes since this class is a lot of work, includes 10 pg lab reports due every week, plus HW multiple choice is ok but essay questions are time consuming as answers aren't in the textbook you have to use outside sources to complete. his exams come from the homework except for the 4 essay Q's on tests are difficult.
I like Prof Garcia. Yes, his class is VERY demanding and you must have time outside school to work on the reports and homework, also, pick a strong lab team, your grade will depend on it! If you need to change teammates, do so! To get thru the class, think of him as a cop, he's there to help you, but don't cross him!!!!!
I'm an OSS student that took this class and I got a B...yes, the class is hard but if u take notes and do your homework you'll do fine!!If you don't understand something, just ask...he will answer them...also you must come to class on a regular basis!!..Mr Garcia was one of the best professors I've ever had!!
Professor Garcia explains everything very well. He really cares about the students education he wants all of us to learn. homework is easy and we only have a lab report every other week and they are easy to do long as you take lots of notes when doing the lab work. Thank you Professor Garcia for talking straight to us & being a great professor.
I think people just don't want to do the work. Professor Garcia only tells you how it is and if you feel embarrassed is because you were doing something wrong we are all adults lets act like one, and remember your in college not high school deal with it or get out of college.I have learned how to use the microscope, I get a kick out of you!

I have to say, it is definitely not an easy class BUT if you do all the homework and attend all lecture and lab, it'll be easy to follow. He is extremely helpful when you need help. Study ALL homework and when he says it's going to be in the exam, believe it. Study study study. If you're a bio major, class recommended.
He is a very nice and amazing Teacher when you need help he is there all you have to do is ask him. study the homework and he will tell you what will be on the test take notes and ask him lots of questions he will always answer the questions he is very knowledgeable in what he is teaching he is a very kind person just be honest with him.

Professor Garcia may come off as mean at first but he's one on the nicest teachers I've had. I took this class as a required class for transfer. If you are not going to med school i suggest you not take this class. If you are interest in what life is all about take him. If you study hard, follow the guide lines and never miss class you will be fine. With that said, personally he is rude, egoistical, and degraded our class every second he had. If you plan on taking bio in the future, take Garcia. Tests heavily based on in-class notes which he does not post online. Arrogant at times, teaches like its a high school class. Your grade is your grade, he won't care if your mom died (not literally) you still get what you earned. Amazing at biology but his class will be hell.
As long as you do the work attend class and study homework you will pass the class.
He was very difficult but if you listened and wrote down notes during his lectures and actually studied the weekly take home tests, you would understand the material. It is mandatory that you show up to every lecture and lab because if you missed one class, you would be lost. I didn't figure it out until the second half of the semester.
Garcia is an excellent professor for students who are both eager to learn and diligent about their studies. He is not a easy professor and with sciences that's exactly what you need.
He is a difficult teacher he is really particular on what he wants on the essay questions a lot of homework and a lot of lab reports but you do learn a lot. STUDY STUDY STUDY
This is an excellent course, however there is way too much material to cover. Not sure why the State insists that teachers cover so much material! A LOT OF WORK. Exams are multiple choice AND essay questions so make sure you study/memorize the material. The Professor is very helpful in assisting the class with its preparation for exams. Nice man.

He's not a bad professor but you do have to be on top of your work always. It is a lot of work and a lot of homework. Studying your butt off pays off. I missed a couple lectures and I was completely lost. I have to admit that he gets off topic real quick in lectures and he is all over the place when he speaks. Just read on your own too.
Gracia is an amazing professor. Yes, it's a tough class but if you try and don't give up, you cant fail.
I was scared to take this class because of the bad reviews students gave to him but since I really need Bio 3 to be able to take upper level of science, I took the risk. It's a tough class indeed and a lot of work, but if you work your butt off and do all the homeworks, you'll do good. Tests and lab were easy. Just review before the test! Got an A.
I wouldn't recommend if you're a non-science major. He can get off topic, is strict, doesn't allow for much extra credit, and can be confusing, but he does prepare science majors for upper division classes. As a history major, I found him needlessly hard.
Worst teacher i ever had! guy has an accent so its hard to understand him most of the time. Makes his test ridiculously hard and doesn't care for the students, seriously don't take him unless you want to go through hell. i dont know whats up with this guy but this guy has an inferiority complex, "he bullies students", should be fired from school!
Terrible teacher, tough grader, yells at students, puts you down for asking questions this guy is that bad lol. seriously had hard time understanding his accent too. Professor Garcia's class may be challenging, but is much easier if you JUST DO THE WORK! He is very clear about what essay questions will be on the test, and multiple choice are taken right from the homework. Some professors are just plain bad and this professor is a prime example. He could care less how you do in his class, insensitive and rude towards his own students, He does target some students sad but true. The homework and quizzes can be a real pain in the butt. He takes joy in giving out poor grades, my advice avoid,trust me!
Ok heres the deal,lots of homework and quizzes. To take him is to know frustration. If you're taking multiple classes avoid. He's a tough grader and loves to give c's and F's out. there's a lot of busy work that can set back your grade if you don't turn in all your assignments. His personality is little peculiar just keep your distance.
Took Garcia Fall 2014 because of Anatomy. I know bio is a hard subject but he makes it harder. There is many assignments and he is very specific on what he wants for the answer.. He also has accent and arrogant. I did all I could and still received a B. You might learn in this class, but take different prof.
I am currently taking Martin J Garcia's Biology 3 course. The reason many students dislike him is that he has EXPECTATIONS for us. He provides students with clear outlines and has put in time to making slides. Did the homework? Guaranteed B or C on test. Those complaining about his accent are not prepared for University, let alone the real world.

He is strict, n he does have his temper. However,he shows respect for good works n responsible students. I got an A, but I had to work for it indeed. I won't say it is impossible to make it in this class, cuz even though I am not a native speaker n had a hard time w understanding the lecture bcuz of the accent of his, but did every hw n passed.
Tough grader but got an A. Heres wat u need to knw if u ever want to take his class. Dont miss any hw bc it count as 3040% of ur grade. Quizes are base on ur hw Qs so make sure u review each questions & its right answers b4 each test. Take pics of the notes. Review ur notes. Partner up with people who wont make u work by urself at lab sessions.

Good professor, interesting lectures. He does get off topic sometimes, and sometimes crams the last slides into the last 20 minutes. He strongly dislikes it when people come into class late. Don't do it. LOTS of homework! The take home quizzes would sometimes take me two hours. Worked my butt off and still got a B.
If you can get past his terrible attitude and just study, you'll pass. He is condecending and bitter. Goes off topic and is easily frustrated. Take pics of his slides! Study the homework, and READ!
currently taking professor Garcia this semester, he is intense but will teach you and you will understand biology specially if you are a Nursing student. Test are identical to the homework, and for every chapter there is homework. He can be funny sometimes but hates slakers, if you like an easy grade this is not the class for you!
Very clear at what he expects, and great at teaching. He gave multiple choice quizzes for hw, and used the exact same questions for the tests. All you have to do is memorize. He also gave essay questions that were going to be on the test during the lecture - just take notes! Labs were never boring or hard, and we always worked in groups.
Professor Garcia is very direct on what he wants. Get ready to do the homework because it will definitely help you on your tests. 4 or 5 test and a final. Just study a lot, put the time and effort and you'll pass the class.
Professor Garcia is the most funniest professor so far that I've taken in my college experience. He HATES slackers and LOVES good (hard-working) students. He gives you a lot of homework but his lectures are not bland at all. Study the homework and study the essay questions he hints on. He inspires and intrigues students and was overall a great exp.
Alright yall. Garcia's an amazingly EASY professor. Ive never met someone who gives you exactly whats gonna be on each test- come on! He does give a lot of work but its so damn EASY. Tests come directly from homework. I honestly dont see how you can not pass this class when he hands you every answer.... Can be loud but i take it as hes passionate
He thinks the world revolves around himself and constantly tells his stories and talks about himself. Also, he constantly threatens students saying that he will "kick you out of his class". If you happen to laugh with someone he takes it personal and thinks you are laughing at him. Overall he talks bad about all his colleagues.
His material and teaching style is very confusing. He is intimidating and asking him questions is scary. Always made me feel incompetent. This teacher has a serious inferiority complex and bullies students. AVOID.
He thinks his class is the only class you are taking. His attitude is horrible, he wants to scare students from the first day of class!! It's not an act, he's like that the entire semester. Heartless. If you're honors, he makes you write labs the size of a textbook. You'll want to cry. I am a 4.0 honor student and it was too much!!
First words out of mouth:"I hate it when students cannot follow simple instructions." Probably should have known to get out then but didn't. Favorite speaking points: The price of equipment other teachers broke, other jobs he could have had or did have, "When I was in college..." Worst teacher ever had. Avoid at all costs.
Don't listen to the haters. Prof. Garcia is a very respected and elite professor. He doesn't have time for slackers at all, but neither would I. The exams are taken straight from the homework, so there should be no surprises as to what you're getting tested on. He gives very good lectures and is actually incredibly hilarious. I really enjoyed Garcia's class. It is absolutely possible to get an A in it. He tells you exactly-word for word- what you will be tested on. Lazy students won't do well. You do need to study and it's memorization heavy. But having done the work, I can say that I learned a ton and I feel very confident in my grounding for biology.
Very memorable prof, his class is not difficult. I didn't have him for lab so I don't know what he's like there but his lectures were very enjoyable. He's very passionate and talks about himself sometimes but its fun listening to. Exams and homework are easy, final was easier.
Elite professor at LACC. He has the most knowledge and insight in his field compared to any other community college professor. Makes you work your butt off with lab reports and take-home quizzes. He may come off as intimidating, but is actually very caring and eager to assist students as long as they meet him halfway.
If you are a non bio/science major, this class may not be one for you. He teaches higher level concepts, very passionate about his field. You will work your butt off for your grade. No quizzes, only exams. Everything else is take home. He doesn't tolerate nonsense, and is very animated during lectures. I really enjoyed him, I recommend him!
After reading some reviews I was a bit uneasy but need this class for transfer. I watched him this week as he presented how he teaches and what is expected. I am a straight shooter and appreciate a Professor that takes teaching seriously and has a passion. He is clear and tough and I am sure I will learn a lot from him. Take him and have tough skin
Prof. Garcia is a passionate teacher. His tone is intimidating but if you have any questions he is willing to clarify and help you in what ever you need help. Do he's homework and labs are not hard just lots of work. He is all about getting you ready for higher division science you'll be prepare. If you are lazy don't take him. I love his teaching
He is VERY knowledgeable. He seems intimidating but only because he is very passionate about science. If you are a slacker he doesn't want you in his class and he'll let you know.
He can be extremely rude and ruthless. He gave me a C on an A paper because i wrote my last name second instead of first. He's brilliant and smart but his method of teaching isn't for everyone. He powers through so much material, its hard to keep up. His class requires a LOT of free time and dedication to pass. Not for someone with a demanding job.
Professor Garcia acts as if he is getting you ready for the Olympics, while all you are doing is getting credit to transfer and pursue a degree in a major that has nothing to do with biology. He is rude and loud in his teaching style. He claims to be this guru of teachers but his methods are highly inappropriate. Avoid if class is for credit.

Great course with an excellent professor. He ALWAYS tells you exactly what to study for on your exams! Heavy workload at times, especially for someone taking 18 units, but I still managed to pass with an A+. Everyone complains about this professor, but its just because they are too lazy to put in the work for the grade they want. RECOMMEND 100%!!
Professor Garcia ... where do I even start, EXCELLENT PROFESSOR , however he can be the biggest Ass ! he gives out study guides , teaches you the criteria but is very strict with his way of teaching , he sees that you look lost and he'll just kick you out , the man knows his criteria and what he's teaching , he just doesn't like "slow learners "

The homework is exactly whats on the test. Heavy work load. This is a real deal teacher, no sugar coating. He takes his job serious and will prepare you superior to other teachers. Worth the money. I took his class because he was the only one teaching bio 3 this semester but honestly he took away my enthusiasm after only one week! I get that hes just doing his job and trying teach us but hes quick to assume youre stupid because you look confused if we are taking your class its your job to help us not humiliate us
Only take him if you want to learn from the best. He will push you to become better as a student and he will make you work. He is very organized and will tell you what he expects in his work. By far one of the best professors I have had.
Professor Garcias style of teaching might be too intense for some students but such intensity is what helps pay attention. We can all agree that the same old monotonous lectures from other professors are boring and make us lose focus. Professor Garcia keep you on your toes becaus he really cares about students learning.
Hardest class I have ever taken. He is the best science professor I have ever met. He inspired me to do my best to become ELITE. If he sees you helping other students, you will gain his respect. If you give your all, you will come out of his class a better student, guaranteed. If you are working full time, take this class solo.
If you are taking this class then you should be ready to read, work in groups, and actually show up. I took this class as an honors course which meant that I had to do more than the average student in this class. I did my lab reports by myself and not with my group being a fulltime student/fulltime job. Advice: show up to office hours and ask away.
Good lectures, he uses power points for them but he puts ALOT of information on his PowerPoint slides so its better to take a picture before he moves on to the next topic. WARNING he gets off topic which is literally him ranting about how the other science professors suck and gets defensive over everything that he needs a lawyer, lots of homework!
Learned a lot in the class not only about bio but about the importance of studying. If you want an easy A dont take this class. If you want to prepare for transfer take it. Lab is crucial pick your lab partners wisely. Take pictures of the slides most if not all answers are in the book with a few in the slides. Take advantage of office hours
Class was not an easy A but he is available during office hours and will answer all your questions. Lab was intense. Did lots of experiments but he offered extra credit for lab reports. Pushes you to do well. Comes off as mean but he is really nice. He just expects students to try. Most of not all test are based on homework. Gives study guides.
He is a very knowledgable professor, de definitely knows his material. What I don't appreciate from him is his attitude. He needs a dose of humility, he likes to scare kids away and I don't find that fair. He is a tough grader too and he doesn't appreciate slow learners. I worked really hard for my A. But I mean HARD.

He is really harsh. He gets angry and yells a lot. He is, however, available outside of class. If you go to his office hours he will help you understand the concepts and will like you better than the other students. So what I'm saying is, AVOID GARCIA, but if you must take his class, go to office hours!
Awful class! Do not take this class unless you have absolutely no other choice. This is the worst professor I have ever seen or heard of. He is aggressive, angry, he often yells and he is mean to students. You have lots of tests and homework and have to buy text books and lab equipment.
If I can give this professor a 0 I would. All he talks about is how he's underpaid and how other professors, his colleagues, are horrible. I have learned zero material from his class and will continue to do so. I am not a bio major nor did I ever want to be but if I was going to be and took his class, he would definitely make me rethink that choice
This class literally felt like I was being berated by a parent that Ive never met for before for 20 minutes everyday first thing in the morning. He takes role with his mic muted, disallows engagement between students, and your only allows to ask question through email, but hell remind you hes not paid to answer you. Terrible teacher, and person.
I took professor Garcia's online class and his material and way of teaching helped me a lot to learn. He gives you a lot of homework to do, but it's for your own good. It will prepare you for the final exam. Just don't miss any class and you'll do good. He cares about his students that's why he is a strict teacher, who want to see you try.
Professor spends more time yelling, talking down the school, making fun of students, and how much better he is than everyone than he does teaching. I timed it and he actually spends half of his lectures ranting. He has become a bit more professional now that he gives lectures on camera. Read the texts, take good notes.
Don't come near this professor! This professor wastes time on pure ranting. There were so many exams and I'm not talking about 30-50 questions, no I'm talking about +80 questions with so little time to even get through all of them! He's honestly the worst, don't ask for help because he'll just say it's your fault for not understanding. Stay Away!
From my experience, this professor is okay. One complaint about him, he talks about putting students on the spot, comparing and contrasting other professors and accused us of cheating in the exams when we werent. Heres one thing to do read the book ahead and do the work. I wont take him again though. Good Luck if youre taking this class.
Horrible experience with this prof. I didn't even like his class. He does't let us talk, always comparing other professors and other stuff. Puts student on the spot, and keeps pushing due dates back which affect my grade so much. I'm never taking him ever again. I don't recommend any student to take this scrawny professor. Professor Garcia is certainly hard but you learn so much from him, and I was really surprised to see all the negative comments because it doesn't sound like him. He never puts anyone on the spot and gives great feedback on assignments. If you really want to learn Biology he is a great teacher.
I had to get wisdom teeth taken out and couldn't do assignments because the medications would've put me to sleep. I emailed him letting him know this, he replies telling me still to do the hw. After i gave him a dr's note, he encouraged me to not take medication to do his hw which wasn't unlocked until after my dentist appointment.
Class is mandatory attendance and he goes over the same thing thats already included in Canvas(might as well make the class with no live meetings) Once had an issue about my grade and he displayed very rude behavior not wanting to offer any assistance. Aside from that he grades primarily on tests, discussion posts,and exams. Just read & ur good
Professor Garcia gives lots of homework but at the same time, the lectures and the videos that he includes in canvas are really helpful. If you read the book and take good notes you'll be fine. He gave good feedback and the grading criteria was very clear.
He spends lectures just ranting putting others down and when he finally teaches it's him playing videos. Even by pre school standards he would be an awful teacher. Very inconsiderate towards his students. Does not give enough time on test and does not explain the topics.
All he does is make you read his class slides and answer homework questions + discussions. His "recorded lectures" are just him reading the slides. He made all of us buy a digital textbook that cost $60 and NOT ONCE did we use that textbook. His exams are unreasonably timed. He's strict with grading and does not offer make-up work.
He is the standard for bad teachers. Goes off topic during lectures in between videos. He himself never explains anything except how much better he is then the other teachers. Grading is unclear. Always blames you when you ask for help. He has does not give enough time on test. Makes you buy a book that is never used.

I did not like one bit of his class. He is very inconsiderate, and won't let you explain. I mean he will help you during office hours, but it's not worth it. If students fail an exam, he will start to lecture the first 25 minutes about the exam putting students on the spot, and pushing due dates back. He is so disorganized. Stay away from his class
I was hesitant in taking this course because of the initial reviews. My main concern was a lack of support . After taking his course I am happy to say that Professor Garcia is exceptional. He shows up early for office hours, ties life experience to biology, and is intentional in helping students. This class is fast pace but not impossible.-c

Professor Garcia is a leader who I am glad to have encountered for such an intricate course(Bio 003=Math+Chemistry in the beginning to help minds envision what is taking place inside cells and eventually under microscopes. Professor Garcia is an amazing professor. He's honestly very passionate and caring. He cares about your education, and it shows because he prepares you not just for his class but for other science classes. He teaches you to handle all the lab equipment safely and he organized everything on canvas. Attend and keep an open mind.
Hesitant to take due to reviews but had no choice. To my shock Professor Garcia is very caring towards his students and is a realist. He will tell you as it is. Took him for a 5 week course and his material is straight forward. He is there to help you understand and provides lots of resources to do so. My grade is my work, not due to his teaching.
Professor J. Martin Garcia is a dedicated educator who values hard work and commitment from all students. He recognizes and appreciates every student's effort, regardless of their grades. Participation is essential, and he is always available to support those eager to learn and excel.
To keep this short, I dropped this course based only on the first Lab that I took. Throughout the time I was taking this course he repeatedly was cussing throughout the entire lab. He referred to OSS students as mentally disabled, segregated OSS students to their own designated table and told us how he wanted to give the finger to another teacher.
Professor Garcia is hit-or-miss. Lectures can be informative, but attendance is a must. Unstuck AI helped me prep for exams when the workload got heavy. Overall, a challenging class, but manageable with dedication and some digital study aids.
WORST professor I have ever had. Extremely sexist, makes sexist comments and jokes constantly. Never stays on topic, lied about being head of his department and constantly talks about how "he doesn't care" that nobody likes him. Unhelpful, even in office hours.
Professor Garcia is a passionate teacher who genuinely cares about his students. I took this class as a requirement. It is a difficult course, but definitely enjoyable and manageable. Be ready to complete and turn in homework assignments + lab reports weekly. Study guides and extra credit were provided. Make sure to have a functional lab group!!
Make sure to listen clearly to his lectures- they're super helpful for labs and the homework assignments. Many people say there's too much work, but once you do it, it doesn't feel like much. Everything on the tests is things that he went over during class. If you have a question, message him and he'll respond quickly (24 hours max on weekdays).
I took Prof. Garcia and he is not that bad. The thing I didn't like about him is he would lecture us as students about the deadline and doing poorly on exams, and spoke to us like we're middle schoolers. Don't interrupt when he is speaking because he gets arrogant. Just get all the work done and do well in the exams. I will never take him again.
Overall my experience with Professor Garcia was very pleasant. He would always make sure the content on tests were from the lectures and always gave us a practice exam. Although it is very memorization heavy, a few flashcards and you're pretty much guaranteed to pass. I found his personality to be quite funny during labs and lectures. Would retake!
Professor Garcia is a straight forward type of professor. He lectures what will be on the tests and has amazing lab assistants that are extremely helpful during lab exercises. The group lab reports got to be a bit annoying but they are easy. The exams are far from difficult. He uploads a PowerPoint slide for each chapter. He wants you to do well.
DO NOT ASK HIM FOR HELP! I ended up doing almost all the group work alone. He pressured me to stay, blamed me for others' failures, and made me feel guilty. Passionate about biology, but not teaching. Avoid this professor.
My group and I had a phenomenal time in his class! He genuinely cares about students learning, and provides all the materials on canvas to ensure their success. He talks about his life experiences, but they're interesting. If you show that you care, he will see and reciprocate that energy. Cares more about team work than the individual assignments.
