He's a great teacher and makes english interesting, which is rare. Essay topics are easy and fun to write about.
Japtok is a cool German dude that has an awesome accent. He's funny, but tends to lecture A LOT. In fact, the whole class is lecturing. You will have to write about 4-5 essays that determines your grade. If you're in a fun class with cool people the class will be entertaining. I'd hit it.
pretty good teacher. His German accent makes the class more interesting. Most essays are pretty easy and graded about the same. He does have lots of useful info on writing if you just try and learn it. I learned a good deal from his class
I love this man
Japtok was an awesome teacher. He's a really cool and caring guy. He doesn't mind a bit helping people who have questions. Reading material he picked was usually interesting. I would definately recommend him to everyone!!!
I think Martin is an awesome teacher. He doesnt just lecture at you he encourages you to participate. Very interesting topics like "the end of the world" Not your boring english novels. Very helpful, always willing to answer any questions. Highly recommend him. Hardly any hmwk easy A. Very nice teac
He grades too harshly. Even if you prove that you wrote correctly, he will say you used a word wrong and it cannot be used with certain other words. He has favorite students who he would rather help. You will not be picked based on how hard you try. I had a 4.0 GPA until I took his class.
I thoroughly enjoyed his class and would highly recommend him to anyone thinking about taking English. His classes are interesting and he encourages students to get involved in discussion. He assigns interesting reading material and grades fairly.
This man will bring happiness and sunshine into anybodys day. As long as you read the text and can discuss it, class is enjoyable even if you didnt read text you can still discuss. He does like to give long history of about text but it comes in handy. The man is like Willy Wanka.
fun teacher likes to lecture a lot so if you don't like to be involved in class discussions about what you read then don't take him but easy work load just keep up on the reading and you only write 3 papers and one research paper for your final if i remember correctly very knowledgeable and interesting to listen to
Took his class during a summer session. Fairly Easy. Nice guy and easy to talk to and understand. The only downside is that his lectures can get off topic and boring sometimes.
I have never known a teacher who would walk with his students to the cafe and sit down and drink coffee with them. He is a wonderful teacher. He takes the time to look over your essays and explains them well. Not only was he a teacher he became a friend, LOL I recommended my mom take his class!! Martin if your reading this I know you know who this
Martin is a great teacher, he gives great constructive criticism and he makes English enjoyable. If you choose to take his class be there and on time otherwise it is rude and disruptive for other students and the teacher.
Japtok is a excellent English teacher, he know his stuff. If your not willing to work for your grade don't bother your wasting time.
He's from Germany. Come on!!! Fun teacher and doesn't make class as boring as it normally would be.
Great teacher. He's helpful, and personable. He's an awesome guy, and he's chill to hang with during the breaks and after class. I took this during the summer, and it rocked even at the faster pace. Take this teacher for any class, he rocks.
Slightly (very slightly) hard to penetrate his strong German accent, but his American Lit class is interesting and fun.NOTE: He does NOT use ScanTron sheets for his tests, so be sure to have plenty of paper and writing materials handy.
Martin is great! He is easy to understand once you get used to the German accent. He gives an interesting "non-american" point of view. Pay attention to the lectures and you'll do fine...you dont even really have to read the books as long as you come to class and take notes during his lectures. nice guy.
The lectures are interesting since Martin is knowlegable about a variety of topics. Come to class having read the texts and this class will be a breeze. Btw, he's a nice guy.
I LOVE Japtok! He was very helpful with papers even if his accent is a little hard to understand at first. I would take him for 202 if it wasnt already filled!
I *loved* his German accent but it did distract me sometimes. Come to class having read the assignments. If not he'll just lecture and it can get boring. When students have read the material, the discussions can be lively. He adds a much needed progressive, non-American perspective to an otherwise very conservative, right-wing campus.
very good teacher, very helpful and understanding. finally taught me how to write good papers, explained how to write them and what to write them about. explained what is the point of writing papers and how to write clear, understandable ones
I WENT TO HIS CLASS EVERYDAY AND TURNED IN ALL THE PAPERS. I GOT AN "A". ITS AS SIMPLE AS LISTENING AND WRITING. HE EXPLAINS LITERATURE IN A MANOR THAT WILL MAKE ANYBODY ACTUALLY UNDERSTAND THE TRUE MEANING. THIS GUY IS THE REAL DEAL, HE IS A PUBLISHED WRITER. SINCE YOU HAVE TO TAKE ENGLISH I RECOMMEND HIS CLASS STRONGLY TO ANYBODY WHO WANTS TO MAK
he is the greatest teacher..he gives a non-American perspective to all the books.. he is the best i recomend him....
Martin is a really nice guy and has a great sense of humor. Sometimes his lectures can drag on but he doesn't talk just to hear himself speak so come to class and pay attention. You'll learn a lot! He respects his students and expects the same in return. There are four papers, one revision, and attendence/participation does count. Good luck!
To be honest, he was one of the BEST professor I met during my 2 years of college. I am not an English lover or anything like that, but he will make it an interesting class. His lecture can be a little intense, but he makes the class an enjoyable environment. He cares for the students, he is understandable, and he is there for any questions.
He is awesome. He is there for any questions you might have. Even other students that took him said he was a Great professor! He is easy going and really cool.
Professor Japtok is the BEST teacher in palomar college. He got the nicest personality, and care for his students, and extremely willing to help students, very informative. He is a wonderful teacher, and I would recommend him if you are not a slacker."
Great teacher, cares about everyone in class. Will help you if you have any questions and you will learn a lot from him. The books you have to read are interesting and the papers are not that hard. You have to write rough drafts and he will help you the class before the paper is due. Great teacher, highly recommend!!!
Great teacher, he expects a lot out of your essays but he lets you know in advance.
Very Hard. Expects a lot out of your essays, and essays. Lots of hw. IF you can make it to class EVERYDAY and pay attention very well then go for it.
I hate english, and this teacher changed my opinions. He is awesome and so helpful. He has interesting lecutres and he makes you laugh. I learned a lot about my writing and how to improve. Did all the essays and got an A, even though I missed a few classes. I highly reccommend
Survey of World Lit may frustrate the student who comes to class anticipating a lively discussion on the reading. Dr. Japtok consistently emphasizes or limits conversation to particular pet themes. Also, requiring all the students to read the selections would have elevated class participation and general interest.
He is very strict about attendence, and does not like it if you miss class/leave early... I personally do not like his method of teaching. He is very opinionated and we don't even write much! We read... it's an english comp class... but we rarely write.
LOVE THIS GUY! i took him for african studies, i was a little concerned when a white guy came into my african studies class to teach but he was AMAZING! you can tell he has a passion for his job! easy tests, no homework and he gives u a study guide far in advance! take him, hes great!
MARTIN JAPTOK is one cool german. The class isn't all that interesting, but he's really funny and very intelligent. Grades essays pretty hard, but if you know how to write a decent paper you will get a decent grade, just dont expect an A on every paper. its tough to get one in his class.
He is chill pretty cool dude. Just essays like 4!!! Grading is kinda off the wall like 14.2 how you grade an essay like that is beyond me but overall easy class!!! he said most people in his class for eng 100 get A's not to be worried but he wouldn't round me up a couple percents ha whatev really cool dude very funny
He is a GREAT teacher. He makes writing easirer helps you to improve your writing and critical tnking skills.Mandatory attendance but a nice guy, very funny.
One of my favorite teachers at Palomar. Japtok keeps class very interesting and is very helpful.
very enthusiastic teacher and knowledgable yet at times it was hard to tell what he wanted you to write on tests. Nice person but you MUST keep up with the reading and take notes so you'll remember latter. There is ALOT of reading yet it is a very interesting course which i'd recomend!
Professor Japtok is a really cool guy...wish more prof. were like him. You have only 4 papers and the books are pretty interesting. Mandatory attendance. Overall great experience and would take him again in a heart beat.
Took him twice would take him a million more times. So many good things to say the only thing is that before we start reading a novel he will probably spend 2 whole class periods giving background information on it and the time period it was written and he is not afraid to call you out in front of everyone about your attendance. But he's the bomb:)
Great teacher. Extremely helpful and makes what would normally be a slow, monotinous english class go by a whole lot faster.
Japtok is an awesome professor, truly provides deep insight into the material and is really quite funny. Very opinionated but in a non-offensive, humorous way. He speaks and interprets the English language far better than I and is from Germany.
Honestly, Professor Martin is magnificent. He is a great teacher, has no problem explaining things in several ways so everyone understands, and is very patient. He makes this low-level English class fun! Also has a great sense of humour and gives super easy homework. Definitely take any of his classes!
he's an excellent teacher. i would recommend him to anyone. class isn't mandatory. but you'll do better on the test if you stay and listen to his lectures.
Dr. Japtok is one cool German. Sometimes says where instead of were...lol. Makes basic grammar fun to learn. Pretty laid back and likes to crack jokes here and there-especially about Lady Gaga. take him! i am definitely taking him for Eng 100
He is a great teacher. He will sit there and help you after class and even it is something that we have already gone over and should know he still helped you. He does not get frustrated at you. His accent is super hot and I do not want to leave his class, but I will definately take him for English 100(:
Really interesting class. He focused intensely on the effects of ethnicity on identity within the novels, which I jumped at. I only took AP's in highschool so I have no college comparisons, but he was great. Pretty average grader, but great constructive criticism. If I needed another English class to transfer it'd be with him.
The best!
Mr. Japtok is a difficult grader. I had all A's until his class. Not that heavy of a work load and LOTS of discussion. I know a lot of people who like him but he wasn't the professor for me I guess.
Professor Japtok is awesome! His English classes are interesting and easy to follow along with since the books he chooses are about the Internet and technology. He is ALWAYS available in his office and glad to help. I would highly recommend him!
AWESOME!
Professor Japtok is an awesome person and teacher. While my interest in the content of this semester was low, he still managed to keep me engaged in the lectures. I will be taking him next semester and highly recommend for any of his classes. He is a tough grader, as he is looking for content vs grammar; so make sure to study what you write.
Such a great teacher. He often goes on really cool tangents that connect the history lecture with contemporary issues. Highly recommended. Taking him again for two more semesters.
by far My favorite teacher at palomar&i have had really good teachers.Very passionate about AS &is an advocate for civil rights for all people.I highly respect him.His lectures are so detailed,u don't need to read. questions on the test are right off his study guides.he is always in office hours. There is so much more i can say but I'm out out room
I loved this class with Professor Japtok. He allowed you to express your own views on the topics. He made the class interesting with the choice of books and always encouraged class participation. I would definitely say you could not find a better teacher for this subject matter...
Class is pretty boring, just discussing the previous reading, but attendance will help improve your overall class grade. He grades essays pretty hard in the beginning but then gives a better fair grade for future essays. Really nice teacher, try to spend just a little time on your essays and you will be fine, easy B.
This is the most eye opening class I have ever taken. He doesn't teach traditional english 100. Essays are on assigned books that have shaped my views on the internet and entertainment forever! TAKE HIS CLASS! Brilliant teacher. Show effort, be part of the discussions, highlight all important parts of the book you come across as you read it!!!!!!
He’s nice professor, a clear speaker, and an easy grader. However, he is extremely biased in his interpretations of the texts. It makes for interesting discussions, but he is definitely a professor that believes there is right interpretation (his) and a wrong interpretation. The class was easy, but I do not feel that I learned to think critically.
Awesome teacher. I hate history, but he makes it really easy to listen to his lectures. He also gives you the test the class before you take it so you can study all the questions. I took him for English too and he was awesome! I never get bored in his classes.
Attendance is required. Analyzing literature the whole class. 3 papers required for the semester. Martin has an interesting technique of "teaching" - instead of "teaching" you the things you need to know, he asks you questions to get you to "guess" the answers. If you are ok with that, then you should have no problem. He is also very opinionated.
This class was not my favorite class ever. You use the book everyday and he takes about 4 classes to go over one poem. He is VERY opinionated and will tell you what you think is wrong. On the plus side there is no final and only three papers to write.
By far the most inspirational teacher I've ever had. Lectures are really interesting, and you can tell he has a passion for his subject. Really shows you the connection between historical and current events in a way that makes you think about the world around you. You will benefit from taking this class!
Very understanding and cool guy! He is helpful and wants you to get a good grade. Very informative class. Never thought I'd like a history class until this one!
Professor Japtok made the class very easy and understanding. No homework at all, gave handouts to study with for all the exams, used the book entirely which made it easy to follow with. He is very helpfull and his lectures does not put me to sleep. I missed class alot due to some unfortunate reasons, completed all exams and still recieved an A+
Dr. Japtok's style of teaching is great. You don't need a textbook. You read novels and write critical thinking essays on them. He's very opinionated, and he may come off as liberal, but he states his opinions in a matter of fact type of way. Participation is required. ENG 100 basic skills are needed. Some weren't up to that level in my class.
Very opinionated. If you are an African American that wants to hear how discriminated against you are, and how all whites are against you - this class is for you, you'll feel right at home. If you just want to learn the history - take someone else. All you'll learn here is the professors ideology and how bad life is in US if you are black.
I've never been happier for a class to end! This is not an African American history class. He teaches his opinion on the very delicate matter of interracial relationships in America. Terrible professor. Nobody should be allowed to do that. Opinions don't matter. Professors should teach events, not their own interpretations of those events. Shame!
He is an incredibly fair grader and he is very passionate about this subject. He is very real and he doesn't sugar coat any issues (like they do in high school). I wish there would have been lectures like this in my high school history classes. If this information was included in high school history maybe there would less racism due to ignorance.
Honestly mr j class is the best teacher ive ever taken . He teaches in a creative way for students to learn an understand. all you have to do is show up. ,listen and take notes your golden for the test. He also very open to ask questions to help you become successful
Best Prof Ive ever taken. People that say he talks about how difficult it is for black people in the US, this HIST probably makes you feel uncomfortable and it wouldnt matter what Prof you took. Japtok doesnt read from the book or slides he knows the subject well and talks openly about it. Hes German so not tainted w US weird racial stuff
Best Prof EVER! TAKE HIS CLASS AND YOU WILL LEARN!! He is eye opening and inspirational. My wife and I took him together and now we are taking as many classes w him as possible. Nobody likes a prof that just reads facts off the board. He TALKS about the issues and wants you to talk back. He WANTS you to succeed. Study guides ARE the test. EASY A!!
2 short papers. No homework. Challenging reading required to participate in classpass the tests. Take notes- he gives the info he wants in your answers. He'll lecture the whole time unless you take initiative to discuss the texts; it can be dry, or it can be fun, but always interesting. Seems like a tough grader, is generous as much as possible.
Was very clear on what he wanted and was willing to give help. He also helped relate the reading back to real life. We didn't have any tests, just papers. I would for sure recomend him.
Dr. Japtok is a really awesome German man who just wants to enrich people to think for themselves he has an awesome worldview and his accent is strong. I will be taking 102 because of how amazing he is.
Prof. Martin is awesome. He wants you to learn which is what you are there to do. I wouldn't say his courses are easy, but you can definitely pass with an A or B with minimal effort. Go to class and take notes. They help. He gives study guides which are gold. Use them and you will surely pass. Freal tho.
He's a Savage xD really chill guy not an easy A but you'll learn and fun to be around
He is a great and funny guy. There are 4 tests throughout the semester. You need to show up and take notes. Most of what you need on the tests are in his lectures. Pay attention in class and the tests will be much easier. Lectures are long and boring. Overall grade is based off only the tests. He lets you read a select few novels for extra credit.
Professor Japtok is a wonderful teacher. I took his 101 class and loved it so much that I took the 102 even though I wasn't initially planning on it. There are 4 tests through the semesters, and they're pretty easy if you know the material. If you're a slacker who doesn't show up or dozes off in class, you'll probably fail.
although he is very opinionated, he knows his stuff. there are only 4 exams and one comprehensive final but the final uses earlier exam questions so not too hard. his lectures are amazing and interesting. strict no phone policy he will call you out. but all in all great professor!
Super good guy! fun class, and easy to share ideas with. His quizzes and exams are hard and heavy on vocab but if you review the words you should be fine. I loved his lecture style and it was a fun summer class
I love Japtok he is a very knowledgeable teacher who gives amazing insight on some of the African American struggles. If you pay attention during his lectures there is no need to read the book because he covers everything he tests on. This class is an easy A if you pay attention it also helps that he makes the study guide match the tests.
A very kind, caring, and passionate man. 4 papers, and an optional revision paper on one of the first 3 is offered. Genuinely helpful and wants you to pass. He is quite opinionated, but if you can bite your tongue, and give his perspective a chance (at least for the semester) you will do well.
He was one of my favorite professors. Always available to talk with you and work with you. His tests are based on his lectures as well as the book, but if you miss a lecture you better review or talk with him so you can get caught up. He gives out study guides and does provide extra credit. Look forward to AS 102 with Dr. Martin
Dr. Japtok has so much knowledge in multicultural studies. I expected just another English class and was pleasantly surprised by how his lectures and the assigned texts broadened my worldview and my analytical skill. This class also helped with my analytical writing ability. I enjoyed his class and it was not boring at all.
A great instructor that really knows his subject material. Accessible after class and always has resources for his students that want to learn the material. I just bought his book that he co-authored in the bookstore for a good read outside of class. I just wish he taught more classes!
I wish he had more classes so I can take them! Hes my favorite professor on campus, hes caring and willing to work with you if you need something. I didnt have the book, but I took good notes and really studied the study guides and I got an A.
I really liked this class! He gives good feedback and will help you improve your writing skills. I am on my last 3 weeks of the class. I wish I could take his ENG100. Just make sure you show up the day after getting an article to read and show up on draft workshop days for sure. That's where you will get the most use from the class.
Hes a great teacher! He is very knowledgeable about AS studies and he gives out very good information. The textbook is really only used for a study guide because other than that, he pretty much goes through each chapter thoroughly.
I took two African Studies classes from Martin. While his classes are very lecture heavy, he is very passionate about the subject & has a lot of experience in this field. I'm usually a terrible test taker, read the textbook, & answer each question on the study guide, you'll do fine. His class has brought me a deeper understanding of my privelage.
He is amazing! Very kind and knows what he is talking about. I will never forget him! He is a blessing to Palomar. I have learned more in his class then in any other class EVER!!!
LOVE him. He cares so much about his students and is always there to help. He is extremely friendly and makes you feel super comfortable asking questions and getting help. He's also super knowledgable on the topics. I learned a LOT from him. The class itself was easy, lots of reading and lectures but the exams are easy. Id take again just for him!
He is very caring and loves connecting to students. He really tries his best to get you to pass his class, I remember I was falling behind bc I got rlly sick and he emailed me about the assignments I was missing and I quickly did them. There are 2 books u will read and its an easy class if you do all the work. I fell behind but I take full res!
sucks. bad at teaching, especially online. most boring class i ever took but i got good sleep :) he did not make any of the lessons engaging and was rude when people did not participate.
So my first time being in Professor's Japtok's class I was nervous about the amount of work and the material we will cover. However, as the time passed he was able to in such detail that I felt excited every time to show up but he was able to have us cover the full topic e of not speaking. He is awesome and Makes the course enjoyable.
He is hella chill, all we had to do were discussion posts (Like answer a simple question every week), 2 tests and 2 essays. The lectures are a bit long but if you actually participate then they can be really fun. My only advice is to DO the readings before class because they are important. other than that tho the class is really chill :D
Professor Japtok did a phenomenal job at highlighting what the course is designed for: surveying World Literature. He was funny, insightful, and personally encouraged me to be more analytical with the texts rather than just interpretative. I really appreciated him throughout the semester and definitely recommend taking any of his courses.
This is someone that truly cares about what they teach. Makes lectures incredibly fruitful and makes this subject less intimidating and more fascinating to tackle.
Took world lit and loved it! Well-structured class; caring and knowledgeable professor. Some heavy reading, but the syllabus gives you a day-by-day breakdown so you can plan your schedule accordingly. Also, he posts test questions in advance so you know what to look for in the reading and can answer the questions as you go. Definitely worth it!
Professor Japtok is truly a scholar teacher. As anyone in a new class, I was very nervous to embark on a journey through World Literature, yet Professor Japtok is extremely passionate about literature and it made learning these hard stories so much easier. There is a lot of reading, but it is so worth it! Be prepared to learn and be inspired!
Dr. Japtoks lectures are in depth and hes passionate about what he teaches. There is a lot of reading, but assignments are reasonable and deadlines are very relaxed. He is easy to reach on Canvas and has even messaged me when I missed an assignment, encouraging me to turn it in.
Professor Japtok is a great educator, he is very caring and engaging in his lectures. I truly feel he just wants his students to succeed and I find his sense of humor rather entertaining. I enjoyed this class so much that I am taking two more classes with Professor Japtok next semester.
He was easily one my best Palomar professors yet. I loved all the books we read, they were so engaging and a manageable pace. He gave great feedback and was always very understanding when something came up. Classes arent mandatory but helped me a lot in writing the essays. Would definitely take this class again, great guy!
Professor Japtok was great!!! Hes a really cool guy himself, always on the ball when I needed help and super understanding. His class is one big, long lecture but if you keep up then you can get some great discussions in!
Professor Japtok made class fun and interesting and got me excited about eras of literature i never before considered myself interested in! I highly recommend taking his class and the workload is very manageable and engaging which keeps motivation to finish assignment high.
I really enjoyed this class, Japtok is a great professor who is really passionate about the topics and texts we go over in the class. We were graded on 4 essays and a final paper. There were weekly assignments which usually comprised of reading a couple of chapters and answering a prompt. As long as you attend class and read, you do fine.
Professor Japtok was one of my favorite professors by far. he is super understanding and happy to give extensions without explanation. he made the class interesting and was a cool professor. I definitely recommend him to everyone.
Currently finishing his online-course. Dr.Martin is a good professor, he is always willing to help if you need extra help or have any question after zoom class is done. There is only 4 essays throughout the course and they are graded fairly. Discussions are about the books you need to read which can be found in online libraries etc..
Personally, I loved this class. The reading was interesting and pretty manageable. If you paid attention in class and in the reading, you got some good conversations. This is a class where what you put in you get out. In my experience with zoom, Japtok matches the energy of the class so if you are engaged he is very engaging back to you.
Professor Japtok is very passionate about teaching and is very interactive with the class. He asks you questions in a way to really get the gears turning in your head. We did about 3 papers total with a 4th final essay. As long as you keep up with the reading and pay attn. to lectures you have everything you need for a good essay for a good grade
Show up for attendance points and even though the lectures can be long and kinda boring, you'll likely retain most of it that'll help with your essays. Writing comes naturally to me, but I strongly feel that your writing skills will improve drastically with a professor like this. He is clearly very intelligent and loves what he teaches.
Teacher was great at communicating what needed to be fixed and even gave in a little to corrections. He is super caring for his students and makes his class fun. 10/10 would recommend.
Professor Japtok is one of the most caring professors out there, he genuinely cares about his students. I have taken 2 of his classes besides this one. The class itself is not easy, some of the topics can be challenging but he offers a lot of help, you just have to put in the time and effort.
Professor Japtok was a wonderful English professor - he gave great background concerning the assigned stories and encouraged class discussion. He is very fair when grading, and provided leniency when assignments were submitted late. Would definitely recommend him to anyone needing to take World Literature!
Prof Japtok is super chill and really nice. Class is only interesting if you choose to participate and be actively engaged in discussions. We only talked about one topic the entire semester, which was boring at times. I RARELY had to do hw outside of class that sometimes I forgot I was taking it. Attendance counts towards your grade so go to class.
Very interesting course, it was important to do the reading and come to class prepared but there was always leniency for late assignments or if you were behind on reading. Tests are easy if you pay attention during class and he gives great feedback on all the assignments.
Words cannot describe how amazing Prof. Japtok is! I've taken his class several times because of personal issues. He is very understanding and always reaches out no matter what. He is the teacher who will not let you fail. If you think you are bad at the subject he will prove u wrong. Best teacher at Palomar.
You're going to need to read, but if you're cool with that then the class is great. Japtok is super nice, and understanding, gives extensions, and cares about you. His class isn't too difficult either, he grades honestly so make sure you try.
Japtok is a great professor! He is easy to communicate with and wants you to succeed. I had a family emergency come up out of the blue and he made it super easy to catch up! His grading is based mainly off of discussion, there are few quizzes/exams that are super easy and one large paper at the end of the semester. Overall, awesome guy!
very easy English 100 professor. He had very clear expectations that are very easy to meet. As long as you show up to class and read at least some of the book, you will do fine.
The more you try, the more feedback is given. He is helpful, easily accessible via email. He is a writer too. This course is easy to follow and well formatted. Ask for help! Don't be scared of English, we all have a voice and a story to tell inside of us. Speak up in class, ask questions even if you think they are silly. His passion is infectious.
Great professor. We did 4 essays total and discussions every week. No homework or quizzes/exams which was great. He gives very good feedback on your essay rough drafts, so you really have no excuse to fail any papers as long as you read and understood the books you are writing about. He really wants you to succeed, I felt like my writing improved!
Even though he gives a very few assignments, they are all worth a lot, all assignments add up to 100 points which directly correlates with your grade, so every point you lose affects you in the long run. Doesn't teach us anything about writing, only talks for hours about articles and useless information. He expects perfect essays all the time.
Japtok is a great professor. He looks for students to participate in lecture discussions so be prepared with having read the material so you can have things to add. There is no pressure to participate though. If you are writing down the things he talks about each class you will do great with the papers and exams. Very caring, wants you to succeed.
Professor Japtok is super engaging and understanding. Though the lectures can be long, paying attention and doing the readings will set you up for success on the essays. For study prep, I found using Unstuck ai alongside the course materials really helpful.
Dr. Japtok is a nice guy. He has strong opinions on technology, and unfortunately spent many lectures rambling about that. There were maybe two lectures on actual grammar, but he spent most of his lectures reading with us as a class or just talking. But he'll help if you ask. As long as you try on your papers and participate in class you'll be ok.
Great professor, very understanding of personal matters. Gives clear and good feedback off of just glances at papers. Really into his job, and is very avid about technology use specificially AI, overall nice professor who wants the best for you, and wants clear authentic work.
Hes a super chill guy, and his class is easy, read the book, talk about in class, then write paper. then repeat. thats its and i love it
If you like writing, you'll enjoy. Only a few essays the whole term, no exams. Course is based on analysis of one book and a few articles, really not a lot for college. I was able to balance this class with all my others. I suggest you go to office hours regardless of your grade, as he is very helpful and will give you specific feedback on papers.
You will do very well in this class if you show up and participate in discussions, although it is possible to get by with little effort. 4 ethnic autobiography books and 4 essays. If you miss 3 classes without excuse you will be dropped from the course. The professor is lenient with grading and late assignments. He wants students to succeed.
he is very nice, and caring, but he talks for almost 2 hours with no breaks, so class can get tiring and boring. for ENG202 all we talked about was racial/cultural identity so if thats not something you find interesting, avoid it. we read 4 books & did 4 essays. he's also very particular about what he's looking for, so pay attention to what he says
Very nice professor. Definitely brings an interesting perspective to the books, which were mainly racial coming-of-age stories/biographies. If you join in the discussions you'll get more out of the class. The lectures are boring due to lack of participation from students in this required course. Miss 3 class periods and you fail.
