kinda freaky to watch him teach, he's very, lets say, intense about his physics. he's smart as hell, but sometimes bashes the class because they dont grasp a concept. but if you go to class everyday you will be prepared for the quizzes pretty much.

He sure knows his physics. Yet even though he makes the tests, he doesn't do any practice problems that prepare you for the test questions (unlike the other teachers). If you could get another Physics teacher--do, if not, he's not terrible.

Jarrio knows his physics. If you go to class, his machine-like efficiency in lecture will prepare you for exams. Maybe he was verbally abusive, but it was funny.

This guy knows his stuff. I go to him rather than my real professor. Jarrio is the king of physics but has a very arrogant attitude to students so be careful about asking questions. If you want to learn the stuff, go to him.

What are you all talking about with the verbal abuse?? I've certainly never noticed it. Good teacher, but you're NOT going to do well if you skimp on the work (copying the hw's, using the soln manual for webassign, etc) or if you don't go to class

Great guy. He can move across a blackboard. Go to office hours, and do the homework. Remember him if you get stuck with a lousy Physics 2 prof. Jarrio will help out then too. Nice guy, and he's fair.

He is a great teacher and can explain hard material. The downside is that you still have to do many many hours of work out of class b/c the tests are INSANE. The Phys. dept. is not scared to give 50% D's and F's as they have shown us. If you have to take the class, get Jarrio and do LOTS of work.

Difficult class because of the amount of work. Tests are very difficult (not enough time, and questions that make you really think). Jarrio is a very good teacher. He explains things thoroughly. DON'T be afraid to stop him and ask a question. He is a fair, but too smart and makes the tests look easy despite a 50-65% test average. Never fall behind.

New method of teaching through PRS questions does not seem very helpful. Rather than explaining things in depth, he quickly runs through PRS questions, quizzing students. Would not recommend if other Physics professors are available.

A overall pretty good. At times can be a little esoteric or arrogant, but explains things well and usually interesting. Actually does curve grades quite a bit.

He covers the material very well, and is approachable for help outside of lectures. However, he requires a lot of homework, and his five quizzes during the semester get more and more difficult as the class progresses. Not the easiest of teachers, but not too bad either.

Great professor. It's not easy material; it's physics at Georgia Tech. But, he's very explicit about being clear and consistent. The PRS questions are great; it gives him feedback on what the class understands, and what he needs to focus on more. And, he's quite funny as well. Take his methods seriously; while they may be tedious, they get answers!

He is very rude. He is not approachable outside of class. He is notorious for yelling at students, and purposefully trying to trick students. The class isn't too hard, but he is a very bad teacher.

Dr. Jarrio made a hard class manageable. No other PHYS 2211 professor can beat his insane lecturing efficiency. He does have an ego, but don't judge him to too quickly because of it. He is very willing to help students, and wants you to succeed. As an added bonus, he is generally gracious when assigning grades at the end of the semester.

One of the best professors I have had yet, and I've been at Tech for 3 years. He really wants you to learn and is always willing to help. He comes across as rude, but I think that is to make people take the class seriously. I would highly recommend taking his class.

Extremely demanding class, but not that hard once you get it. The prof is a pretty funny, though can be a bit arrogant at times. But he makes up for it with his clarity and helpful teaching methods. Not an easy teacher, but you will learn tons when you get out of his class.

Really tough class and professor. He's an excellent teacher, just ridiculously hard material and I won't even start on how difficult the tests are. But the final was fair and so long as you worked hard on the hw and attended class, you will not fail!

He is a great teacher. I just can't understand a lot of hatred toward him. This is physics 2. No matter which professor you choose, topic will be difficult. His lectures are very clear, and he holds office hours that is very helpful. He is even generous at curving. What more do you expect? Don't hate the professor because you failed the class.

Compared to the other physics professors, he's fantastic. He presents the information in a very hands-on way--he's tromped around on his desk before. Twice. Kinda obsessive about cheating and attendance. Classical physics lab.

The tests aren't really relevant to lecture in a lot of cases. Be prepared to teach yourself how to handle the tests. Dr. Jarrio tries to cover as much as he can in lecture, but really there's no way that attending lecture can prepare you (much) for the tests. With that said, the tests aren't insanely difficult, just really annoying.

He is a strong-willed professor. He can be nice at times, other times he may pick on kids in class. He does't care about how you do in his class and won't help you if you dont ask for it. I worked hard and had a 89.85 and he wouldn't give me the A. 94 on final

Jarrio is a great professor and very passionate about the material. Phys2 at gatech is a challenging class, but there is almost a clear cut method for doing well(Atleast a C) and he gives you this guidelines like going to class, doing HW etc. Follow them and you should at least get a C. Beyond that you have to put in a little more effort.

Great teacher. Failing this class was completely my fault. I honestly learned a lot in his class, but you HAVE to go to lectures. He can be arrogant at times and if you haven't taken Physics before you will struggle, but there is PLENTY of help available. He is usually more approachable in his office hours, but let him know if you don't understand.

Lectures are largely proofs which isn't super helpful on tests, but only if you've spent a lot of time doing homework to understand them. Honestly, had I not taken two years of AP physics, I'd be completely lost in his class. Also helps if you have taken Calc. II and III already because a strong knowledge of vectors and integrals is essential.

Good professor. It is hard, but if you ask for help he is fantastic. Tests are difficult and there is constantly homework. Put aside some time every day for physics and everything is okay. Lectures are high-intensity and fast paced.

Physics I classical is hard no matter who you take but Jarrio makes the tests so he is already the best option. His teaching is excellent, he drills the important concepts into your head so make sure to go to class. I wish more professors were as clear and straightforward as he was.

Dr. Jarrio is a good lecturer and makes class engaging. His tests are very hard and you have to put in a lot of work and effort to receive a decent grade in the class. But if you read the textbook and do the webassign you will be fine.

His lectures can be pretty confusing, so read the book and take notes!!! Make sure you're actually doing the homework and you understand how to do it. Also take all the extra credit opportunities and fill up your bucket. I loved going to his office hours because he worked with me through my questions and he is very approachable and wants to help!

Like others have said, lecture is mostly proofs, which are hard to follow at times. The issue with Physics at Tech, at least for me, is not the professors, but the way the class is structured. I rarely felt much cohesiveness between what was being taught in lecture, recitation, and what was being asked on the homework and tests.

People hate him for being very smart and passionate because those people themselves are stupid and apathetic about things. Dr. Jarrio is a brilliant, passionate instructor that has 20+ years of experience teaching the class. He has some of the best lectures and hardest tests. Highly recommend if you're a passionate learner.

Dr. Jarrio is great. He clearly states what it takes to succeed in his class, and the tests are weighted so that your worst is 6% and best is 18%. I did the homework and bonus assignments and read the next section before going to that lecture, and it really helped. I finished with over a 100, making an 89 on the first test. Take him!

Really, really awesome teacher. He's the head of the physics department and he only teaches the intro class, and I think that's cool. He certainly won't make it easy for you, but he cares about you and your grade, and he's very clear as to what it takes to get what you want.

Be sure to read the book before you go to class or else his lectures will be tough to follow. Do all the homework and make sure you really understand the bonus homework before the exams and you will get at least a B.

He told us in the first lecture that attendance and homework were essential to passing the class, and he was right. The resources are there if you're willing to use them. He's good about office hours-- the posted hours didn't work with my schedule, but he was always willing to make an alternate appointment. Overall, not easy, but enjoyable.

Obviously knows what he's talking about, but most lectures are spent breaking down example problems with very little "lecturing". This teaching method works well for some but not all. Will help if you seek it. Tests aren't too bad, and reading the textbook helps. Lots of clicker questions as well, so attendance is required.

Jarrio will definitely make you work for your grade, but he's a fantastic lecturer with a quirky personality and a passion for his work. Diligently keeping up with homework and practice exams is a must if you want to do well--if you put in effort, he will make physics your favorite class of the semester. I'm taking him again, looking forward to it!

This guy is a great teacher and really cares. He adds a little humor to the lecture that wears off as the term goes on but the effort is appreciated. This is a hard class, but if you put in the work, there's no reason you can't do well. Plan on attending lecture for "clicker points", the system is a little complicated but explained the first day

Attend class and do the HW (even the supplemental). It's not an easy class, but if you do the aforementioned, the grading criteria is designed to give you a chance, even with a bad test grade. Lectures are generally good and sometimes entertaining (THWg!), though he is prone to tangents. Reading will help you in terms of class participation.

This course was very difficult for me, but Jarrio himself is good. His lectures give you the equations needed for hw. Office hours are a great resource, but come do prepared! He'll make you work yet entertain you while doing so. Exams are killer, but the old test bank is reeeally helpful. GET A STUDY GROUP. Lecture doesn't focus on problem solving

He is a very smart man and really knows his stuff but if it doesn't click with you he will make you feel stupid. Tests are difficult but all straight from HW or recitation problems (doesn't make em easy though). Class is necessary (you need the clicker points) and you'll use the text book a lot but don't expect to get a whole lot out of it.

Best physics professor at gatech in my opinion. It's not an easy class but if you keep with the HW, attend lecture, and practice the concepts there is no reason for you not to do well in this class. If you truly want to learn physics this is the professor to take.

The best professor/teacher i've had in all my years of schooling. He knows exactly what he's talking about and what is tricky. His office hours are the most helpful ones I've ever gone to, and his love for teaching and students is unparalleled to any other teacher I've met. May seem unapproachable, but the nicest professor ever in reality.

Jarrio is undoubtedly one of the most knowledgable and passionate professors you will take at Tech. Despite, the challenging material, you will enjoy every lecture because he explains material with clarity, even attempting a joke here and there and often does experiments to showcase the topics of the class. Excellent professor; his lectures are always enjoyable and intriguing. Be ready to work, though. This is a difficult class that is made better by having a professor like Jarrio. He cares about his students and does his best to help everyone succeed. Attend class, read the book if you need it, do the homework. 10/10 would take again!

Amazing professor, if you have to take physics take it with him. Entertaining lectures and really helps you learn the material. Also very fair with grading. He asks super hard clicker questions but that helps you make sure you don't make that mistake again and drills home important concepts.

Good and fair professor. Tough grader on exams, small mistakes will cost you a letter grade, but he gives up to 12 pts of extra credit to your final grade. With recitation and in class questions making up a possible 8% of your grade attandence is recommended.

Physics II is a very hard class in general, but Jarrio puts all the tough concepts into understandable English terms. He is very passionate about the subject and teaches you the problem solving process very well. Read the textbook before class, practice old multiple choice questions and FRQs, and pay attention in lecture and you'll be fine.

Probably my favorite class at Tech. It's problem solving masked as e/mag. Just do the HW and go to class (he's honestly pretty entertaining dude). He definitely has high expectations for students which is refreshing.

He's an excellent teacher, but makes you work to do well. Does a lot of very hard clicker questions, but really drills home the key ideas. Very nitpicky, so be careful on tests. Go to every class, pay attention, do as much HW as you can & buck up on your symbolic algebra & you should be OK. Prior physics experience will go a long way in this class.

Physics at Georgia Tech is hard regardless of who you take, but Jarrio is a good professor. Attendance is a MUST but makes lectures as fun as he can. Always willing to help & answer questions, but he & his TAs are tough/nitpicky with how he grades your tests and recitations. If you do all extra credit and homework he's known to round grades too.

I spent the most time and effort on practicing the concepts for this class for my grade not to reflect my efforts. Didn't understand his lectures as he would often go on tangents and write stuff on the board and explain too quickly/skip over explanation. Clicker questions are difficult but reading the book helps. A lot of time spent on homework

Dr. Jarrio taught everything in class as clearly as it gets in a large lecture hall. The homework and tests were nonstop and I was sustained mostly by in-depth readings of the textbook. Definitely do your homework early (extra 2%!) and read the textbook, preferably before class. Get ready for lots of clicker questions, too.

Great Professor overall. I felt like he lectures well, and really devoted his time in office hours and making students feel like they are able to receive help. Tests were challenging across all PHYS2211 classes, and Jarrio could be picky about applying certain concepts and showing it in your work on tests. DO YOUR HOMEWORK EARLY for extra credit.

I have taken IB Physics SL with a solid professor, and this class made me work to the bitter end. For Dr. Jarrio you need to sit up front for and take notes, go to him for help on HW and read. Tests ask for a lot in short time, get good at algebraic manipulations with letters only, and get extra time if you need. Jarrio is hard at first but fun.

Jarrio is a great lecturer. He really seemed to care about the content, despite he fact that it was only intro level Physics. It was tough to get an A, but completely fair. Go to class, do all the homework, and work the practice tests he posts. If you do that you should be fine. Highly recommend.

Dr. Jarrio is a great professor overall. As far as physics lectures go, his are really engaging, but you have to make sure you are paying attention to the whole lecture or you will miss something critical. Jerry will teach you everything you need to know, but you will have to work for your grade. Tip: Do your homework early for extra credit.

This is my second review on Jarrio because the first one was magically deleted... Jarrio is very challenged and picky with notation. He can be rude during office hours when asked questions. Tests are extremely challenging, pay attention to lecture examples and DO THE HW EARLY! Overall, I would not recommend Jarrio. Take modern, tests are easier.

Jarrio makes PHYS understandable, even if you had little to no physics before GT. Lectures & (sometimes tricky) clicker questions cover book material -- do assigned reading before class. Jarrio's sarcastic humor can seem condescending but it's not too mean. Do HW before next class for 40% bonus. Practice tests great to prepare for midterms/final.

Jarrio is very obnoxious. He yells at people when they come to his office hours. "Why don't you get this?!" or "This is high school algebra!!!!" or "I already went through this problem!" His lectures are very fast, and it's hard to follow especially since he writes very small with terrible markers. But, he is VERY passionate about physics.

Jarrio was a decent professor for the first two units (kinematics and forces), but for the last units (torque, etc), the class became suddenly more difficult. For the first two exams, I redid the HW, and I got As, but the last ones were nothing like the HWs, and his lectures weren't as good. Using the book kind of helps. He can be rude at times.

Jarrio is awesome. At least I think so. He did not teach us for long because of some health issues (Hope he is fine). We still missed him throughout the semester. Jarrio is a fantastic teacher; once I started going to his office hours (he will help you step-by-step through homework and give you the materials to succeed) and REALLY payed attention in lecture, the homework and tests became much more manageable. I got a 48 on the first test, but ended with an A in the class by using Jarrio's resources.

Dr. Jarrio is very knowledgeable on any subject he teaches, but his lecture style is frustrating. All you do in lecture is go over derivations of formulas, but rarely will he go over meaningful example problems. If I did not have chegg to teach me how to work through problems, I would have never understood the class

Jarrio's a decent professor. He seems intimidating but is actually pretty understanding if you talk to him. Lectures were not too helpful, he often covered proofs of the formulas but not applications, which is what the tests cover. Tests are hard but there are a lot of resources to prepare. I got an A but put a lot of work in outside of class.

Jarrio is the GOAT when it comes to physics. If you pay attention, Jarrio gives fantastic lectures where he explains high-level concepts very well and is funny too. His tests cover more of actually doing the problems, but there are so many practice tests and other resources you can use to make this class very manageable.

Dr. Jarrio is passionate about teaching this class, but it is hard to follow what he's saying. I relied on the textbook to learn the material far more than learning in class. Jarrio is very eh. His class may be fun if you have already taken Physics 2 or are just really smart, but for an average student, this class was a major headache. He gives several hours of homework per week and tests can be extremely difficult. He does give up to 2 points of extra credit, but this class is a ton of work and there are better profs.

Dr. Jarrio seems to get a lot of hate from his students but he honestly does care about teaching and his lectures are fun. He honestly does care about his students and will make sure no one is left hanging on a cutoff if they've put in the work. Take advantage of his office hours and make sure to do the bonus homeworks.

Probably the hardest class I've taken at Tech. Jarrio was passionate about physics, but for someone who barely understands it, I had a tough time following his lectures. His tests were different than anything from the practice problems and very difficult. If you like physics, you'll like him, but if you're just trying to pass it, take someone else

This was the hardest class I have ever taken quite honestly. And that's just because of Jarrio, and how difficult he made quizzes and tests. I got an A, but without chegg and his provisions of past tests, I would have gotten a C. That being said, I think he is a very good professor for giving you a solid conceptual understanding of the class

Jarrio stated multiple times this semester that he was making the class harder this semester because we are online and it is "not fair to those who have already taken the class." This year has been stressful for many people and it's unacceptable to make the class harder for no reason other than it is online. Do not take until we are back in person

The content is difficult to understand simply because it is Physics 2, but he tries to make it simpler. He assigns a lot of work, but it helps you understand concepts and how to work problems. His tests are weighted based on performance, and he will change the grading scale on a test if students don't do too well.

I thought he was a fun lecturer, but you definitely need to work for the grade. Know how to do the in-class examples and HW problems (some test Qs based off of them). Do practice tests/PLUS sessions. Tough but reasonable grader imo. Read the textbook before the lecture. WARNING: DO NOT FALL BEHIND! (it's hard to catch up) Go to office hours.

Dr. Jarrio knows the content extremely well, however in his lecturers it always felt like we were behind and trying to catch up. He also isn't readily available and when you ask him a question he responds in a very condescending manner. If you do take his course the only way to ensure you do well is to thoroughly read the textbook.

This is a difficult course, and Dr. Jarrio gives an insane amount of homework with fairly frequent exams. In my opinion you'll either love this man or hate him. If you are really confident in your physics ability I think he is a good choice, but if you are not I would definitely steer clear.

Tests are nothing like the homework. Makes TP questions based on accuracy, then designs questions just to trick students so they don't receive full credit. Rarely answers questions, and when he does he makes you feel stupid. Gives a bunch of homework. You have to teach yourself the material and take a quiz on it before he "teaches" it to you.

Jarrio routinely bashes the class for getting exam problems wrong instead of possibly considering he did not properly prepare the students for the material. He assigns way too much work with very little time to complete it. His lectures are full of tangents and unnecessary information and overall do not compensate for the difficulty of his exams.

This class was definitely the most difficult I've taken yet. Jarrio received A LOT of flak from students, some deserved, some undeserved. He puts a ton of effort into the course, though, and so you're given a lot of materials to do well in the class. Good lecturer, and gives good advice. Curves frequently, and tests are a weighted average.

The class itself is structured very well. The lectures cover all of the necessary material, and the homeworks will prepare you well for the test. Jarrio just isn't a very nice guy. He cracks jokes in class, but then he'll turn around and berate the whole class if a lot of people mess up a question on a test.

GO TO LECTURE. Attendance is mandatory and you will not pass otherwise. He gives a lot of work, so expect to dedicate lots of time However, the assignments will help you do better on tests. The tests are very challenging and you need to study hard for them. Many students don't like Jarrio, but he has a sense of humor and has high expectations.

His tests are weighted too heavily and practice tests aren't in same format. Also he is ableist. He has in class clicker questions and once more than half the class answers he starts the timer, which disadvantages slower students. Do not take his class.

Professor Jarrio is an awesome lecturer. He's enthusiastic and explains concepts thoroughly. He has a sarcastic sense of humor and can be a little snarky at times, but is generally hilarious. In-class questions sound intimidating but aren't. They count for little to nothing of your overall grade as long as you keep up with homework.

As someone with a very limited physics background, this guy's class was horrific! The professor would often shame students for getting daily questions wrong when over half the time he doesn't teach the material efficiently. Yes he SOMETIMES curves test but only because without it the class average would be borderline D/F on tests.

Dr. Jarrio is passionate about the topic he lectured to us, but his explanations are quite confusing, since he never stops for questions. He also doesn't have much empathy for his students. If you dont have background in physics, you will most likely have to do a lot of studying on your own. If you do classical phys 1, get prof. Otte if possible.

Jarrio is mid. He's not a bad professor per se (in fact his lectures are usually pretty entertaining since he's very enthusiastic), but he makes tests that are astoundingly difficult and only rarely provides a curve. If possible, save yourself and just take modern physics...

Prof. Jarrio is a very entertaining and enthusiastic lecturer, however, 2211 (classical) is a very difficult class to comprehend having little prior knowledge in physics going into the semester. A lot of difficult homework was given in this class, and tests were not curved unless class had a below a C average. Jarrio is okay. Take Modern if you can

Jarrio was passionate about teaching and willing to curve exams, but often berated students for getting wrong answers even though this is an intro class. Exams count for a huge portion of the final grade so difficult to bring up your grade if you're not good at taking tests. Tons of homework but there was extra credit for submitting early.

This was my first time taking a physics class. I found this class extremely difficult (I would not say it is an 'intro' to physics class), and I think that although Jarrio is a fine lecturer with enthusiasm, he did not teach to how the tests were formatted. To do well for someone with little physics experience, you will need a LOT of outside help.

He makes students feel bad for missing confusing concepts rather than teaching us clearly, and deliberately tries tricking the class during clicker questions (where accuracy counts) in class, and sometimes doesn't clarify the answer afterward. But I just read the online textbook and it taught me better than he did, and I ended up doing fine.

While talking the class, I felt the professor was a bad instructor; however, after the class, I feel that I understand physics on a very deep level, and I am now succeeding in other physics classes because of his methods and how he taught me to attempt problems.

Even though I am good at Physics -- receiving an A, winning the Physics Olympiad during high school, Jarrio is a terrible instructor. . Clicker questions, assignments, questions all seem to be a heavy load of work for students (which Jarrio all made), he doesn't take this into consideration and is very irresponsible. I did not learn anything here.

Don't understand these low ratings. He is a great professor and teaches very well. He also has this nice extra credit opportunity if you do homework early and weighs the tests very well. Dr. Jarrio teaches a very difficult class which is why I think people don't give him the credit he deserves. He does a good job of breaking down difficult concepts. That being said, he does rush quite a bit which makes it difficult to keep track of but it is still effective. I would say do the past tests he posts and study two weeks ahead.

Compared to other PHYS 2211 professors at Tech, he knows what he is talking about, but you better read the textbook before class or you'll be lost, and don't even think about missing 1 homework assignment or you'll be behind the whole year, like I was. I ended with an 89, so I grinded all semester, but this class was 2+ hours of work every day.

Jarrio is the condolence prize you get for getting stuck in classical physics. Somewhat nice, funny to people with bad sense of humor, and cares about the material and can make it somewhat interesting. If you get all of the bucket points (earned by doing hw and going to class) you can get an A. Id take again if I had to get stuck in classical

Jarrio favors the students who have a Physics background. I failed the first test and immediately went to him and seeked help. He basically yelled at me and told me to get it together or else I'll fail his class so I never went to him again. Discouraging and horrible professor. I did much better in Physics 2 with Alicea. Avoid Jarrio if possible.

This course is difficult, but Dr. Jarrio taught it well and I learned a lot. Lectures are fast paced but he'll stop to answer questions. He held office hours very frequently, a saving grace when it came to the homework. Exams gave significant partial credit for FRQs. He may gripe a little, but he does put in effort and wants students to succeed.

Lectures are decent with clear explanations and great visual examples. He answers questions whenever you ask without ridicule. The grading system is wonderful and allows you to choose which assignments you want to do and still receive full credit for that category. Tests are extremely difficult, but plenty of practice tests to study with.

I took honors physics 1 with him. He's a very energetic and enthusiastic lecturer, and he provides a good standardized set of tools to solve problems which I really appreciated. He was very nice with grading, and provided you do all the homework, labs, and lectures, you'll have a good cushion of points so your grade isnt all exams (exams are hard)

I found this class very difficult, but I believe Jarrio is an amazing professor. As long as he sees that you are putting forth effort in learning the material, he will do as much as he can to help you. Very difficult class, but Jarrio knows his stuff. Returns the attitude you give to him, so just be mindful. His lectures are very detailed, but if you get lost he is more than willing to explain it again during office hours. Honestly a very kind guy, even moved a lab around for me so that I wouldn't have to take the zero.

Professor Jarrios lectures were always good. Come to class having already read the textbook and pay attention during lecture and you'll be fine. For classical physics there were 4 exams, you just need 1 good exam score to ensure you pass. Physics can be hard, but having a good lecturer helps, and I think jarrio is one of the best choices.
