Hated his dog talk, but good teaching techniques. Talks and talks and no one know what the hell his conversations relate to the book. If you dont like biology, dont take him. If you like biology, dont take him. Take someone else

worst teacher ever - made me see him three times a week for an hour in the morning in addition to my two hour lab, then gave me an incomplete and made me come back to school in the summer and see him some more before he finally gave me the B i deserved
horrible teacher nobody ever knows what the hell he is talking about. STAY AWAY!
A few mood swings especially taking a lab w/ him at 8a.m. A crab in the morning then sometimes lightens up. Talks about his dog and if your one on one may tell you his whole life story. For a one credit class..ALOT OF LABS that have to be PERFECT!
Would not recommend
Horrible teacher, seems like he doesn't really want students to do well.
only A I ever got in a science class, so must be doin' summat right
If you want to have a hard and possible failing semester, then go ahead and shoot youself and take a class with him. I mean don't give me wrong you will learn but it will come at a price. I will reconsider having him.
He demands a lot, but if you do it, he treats you nicely, jokes around and gives out A's. Got to adjust to his sense of humor though.
my what a horrible mindnumbing experiance. I'd rather be forced to listen to the drone of static on a tv than take this class again.
expects u to know everything he says as well as everything in the book in side and out. bio 121 is easier than bio 121 without him.
lab is so easy. he shows you what to do before you start and comes around to see how you're doing, but it seems like when you really need him he disappears from the room. no clue where he goes. lab reports every week, but they're easy!!!
very difficult..expects alot from you..but if he senses you care and are trying to succeed he will help you as much as necessary. once you get to know him hes an excellent teacher though his personality is very hard for some to understand. he's plenty nice once you get to know him.
Dr. Kapper is interested in his students and goes out of his way to help. He offers over 100 points of extra credit, and allows students to make up tests if they feel they did bad.. Take the class its easy.
He takes the intro class to levels that are far too in depth, we only got through a few chapters, and most of the class had no clue as to what was going on. I do not recommend.
Dr. Kapper...where to begin? Lectures are unorganized, Labs are difficult and pointless, and exams are impossible. He is also very moody!! His one selling point is that he is willing to help outside of class when you inevitably get lost. Although this help was usually not vey helpful.
Dr. Kapper is a really cool guy. He says some stupid jokes but as long as you go to class and take the notes he takes everything from the notes so kno them. He's not a very hard grader and he gives you chances to make up the tests if you do bad on them. I would recommend him.
The class is very easy if you understand basic concepts quickly and Kapper is very enthusiastic about this first yr course and very helpful...it's an easy A.

EASY CLASS BUT WACK DUDE
what a jerk!
I took him for the lab which is suppossed to be easy. I had to drop the class because he was just failing me. what a jerk!!!! worst proffessor in CCSU
Worst teacher I have ever had!!! If you want to fail... take his course! =(
the class itself is really hard but he offers so much extra credit and homework points, plus he lets you rewrite the test until you get a 70. definately an easy A even though you have no idea whats going on
hes very unclear with what he is trying to teach!!!
worst teacher ever. unclear exams. very ambiguous when it comes to extra help. worst class
I'm surprised at the previous comments -- I liked his teaching style. he was energetic, descriptive, verrrrry helpful, and hilarious! Yes, his test was difficult -- but isn't that the point? To learn the material inside and out?

I took Mr. Kapper for BMS 111 when I was a little freshman. He was for my FY class, and I found him to be really nice and helpful. I hate science and I still got a B in the class. He takes attendence and wants you to try. If you show him your trying he will help you. And then I took him for BMS 113 lab. He is a really nice guy, take his class.
makes me hate my life. i can't listen to anything he says. not funny at all. the class is easy, it's just hard to stay focused when it can be so boring. little assignments here and there, but i regret taking him.

Marty Kapper is not the easy professor who spoon feeds you the information like you are an infant. He wants you to use your own mind. He'll throw you the bones you need, and happily answer questions if you lost, but the rest of the work is up to you!
ummm dr. kapper is a great teacher, especially if your a fresh taking the fye course...hes VERY HELPFUL!!..i went to class only on occasion and defntly should of failed..but he passed me with a C and lets students RE-TAKE tests or sometying to get a C on it if you failed...overall GREAT teacher..n he's funny as****..
A real genius in his field, if you're ready to work and REALLY learn your stuff, take a class with him. Great guy: kind, funny, easily approachable, a true academic and human being; I've taken several classes with him and enjoyed every single one. A+. Incredibly fair - not too hard, not too easy. Expect to enjoy learning the material.
He is very poetic and excitable. He seems harder than he is. He is very helpful and if you want to get on his good side just talk to him about his dogs.
Life sucked for the first three classes with Dr. Kapper. It takes a little to get used to his humor. He's really a nice guy once you get to know him. And very helpful when you ask. He's a good professor, really knows his stuff. You'll learn a lot from this guy.
Kapper is a good professor. Show up on time and do the work and you should do fine in his class. He can be very sarcastic and odd at times, but you will learn from him.
didnt choose the class but ended up being interesting. really good guy but the material can be difficult sometimes. gives you every opportunity to get at LEAST a C...if ur dumb... otherwise at least a B. but def want to go to class or else you will be lost. i reccomend him if u want to learn.
very hard teacher. he's very helpful when you feel lost, but for some reason his help wasn't really helpful for me. The exams were hard as heck and it seems like he's a hard grader or something. And you definitely need to write down everything he says! surely enough it will be on the exam or else you will lose like 1,000 points!
Do not, I repeat, DO NOT take this guy. He is completely insane. He is rude, condescending, and has zero respect for his students. Drop his class now if you know what's good for you.
IF YOU ARE AN ATHLETE DDOOOOO NOOOTTTT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!! If you miss one class it gets confusing. I missed about 6 because of sports and he was no help to me what so ever. I sware he hates athletes and he will not help you...
TERRIBLE PROFESSOR!! nice guy i guess but an awful teacher. very unclear. we were supposed to know 25 questions for the final exam when only 4 would actually be on the exam. pointless labs. will attempt to answer your questions but you still won't understand the material after his explanation, you may even become more confused. FAIL!
Worst teacher. So unclear and he expects you to know everything in the book forward in backward. He must think we go to college just for his class.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. Exams are extremely hard and he doesnt take the time to tell u what exactly is on the exam. He expects you to know everything is SO BORING. I would NOT RECOMMEND HIM TO ANYYONE
He is not an easy professor but you will learn a ton. He knows his stuff and is a very knowledgeable professor. He wants you to do well and will give you all the help you need if you just go to see him.
Dr. Kapper is a very smart man. He has a very strong personality, and I think that it rubs some people the wrong way. Over all his class is difficult and you really need to spend a lot of time studying. He gives his students a lot of opportunities for extra credit and he wants you to pass. I struggled all semester, but ended up with a B.
If you are trying and taking advantage of all the opportunities to get help or extra credit in this class (and any of the others I've had with him) you'll do well. If you don't, he's not going to hand you a grade. If you actually want to learn from a legitimate academic, you'll love him; if you just want to coast through school, take someone else.
If you are not a BMS major, I wouldn't recommend. He makes you know the material. The tests are all essays. I really learned a lot. He gives ample opportunity for students to ask questions at the beginning of the class. He will always help if you see him in his office hours. I enjoyed the class, but had to put in a lot of work.
I took my first ever class at CCSU with Dr. Kapper. So far I love his style. A good balance of helpfulness and encouraging the student to use his mind.He is very fair, and looks at your effort and how serious you are. He is everything a professor should be. If you study well, attend all his classes, submit assignment on time, you can get A.
This guy is so completely awful and I regret not dropping his class when I could have. He's extremely rude, condescending, and NOT understanding of anything.
Professor Kapper is not an easy professor but you will learn a LOT from him. He gives very difficult, very long, essay tests and isn't the nicest person but if you're going to class to actually learn the material, he's the professor for you as he is a great lecturer and you will actually learn a lot of cell biology.
Class is very difficult but that should be expected for this level course. Despite this, the class was great. If you put the work in, you will see your results.
He is such an amazing professor! He is a very smart man that makes even the hardest topics easy to understand. He loves it when people ask questions in the beginning of class and is always willing to help after class. Pay attention to his lectures then you will do fine for his exams. Don't be afraid of him! He's harmless (:
The single greatest class of my BMS experience. Micro is a close second. He will except nothing less than your best and you will be a better student for it. All tests are essay which limits the B-S factor and shows that you have an intimate knowledge of the subject. Everything about this class was difficult and wonderful. aut disce aut discede.
The first week of class I hated him with every fiber of my being. After a month I adjusted to his style. At the end of the semester, I'm sad that the class is over I loved it so much. He wants to know you understand a topic, not just be able to memorize for the test. I learned Cell Biology, but also how to be a better student. Highly recommend him!
If you are interested in learning, he is one of the best professors you will ever have. Not an easy class. He caters the course to the students, very generous, will answer/help out any student who has questions. Essay tests are long, very detailed, and challenging.
Great guy! Learned a lot from him. Exams are very hard and stressful, but do-able. Tough grader, but i love the class! Our class was a family and we all enjoyed being there. So sad to see the class end. Overall great professor!
Hard class. Amazing professor. Do not be afraid of him, he is very nice. He WANTS you to do well! Tests and lab presentations are very difficult. Everything he says in class is important, but you cannot record. Take amazing notes! I have never learned so much in one class. Tests are essay format, so you know stuff inside and out. :)
Dr. Kapper is an incredibly smart man who truly cares about each and every one of his students. Yes his tests are hard, and yes you have to put in effort outside of class, which is expected in a 300 level course. Extremely helpful during his office hours. Sad to see this class end.
Professor Kapper was a tough professor. He does explain everything an is willing to sit down and steer you in the right direction, during class. However, he does have a very narcissistic attitude and can be rude. During his office hours he told me he was "too busy" to give me a makeup quiz. I wonder how he treats students who need actual help.
Professor Kapper is generally not a good professor. He is very unclear with what he wants. Hard to approach him for extra help. Blames students for bad grades due to his insufficent teaching. Avoid class at all costs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He doesn't show professional manner, love talkative students, love joking in lecture for no interest. Exam is in any corner of your textbook, but grading is terrible instead of guiding you through for experience. You just want to pass but learn nothing much from him. Unfortunately, in BMS 311, it's only him teaching that course. Silly indeed!
He is a really tough grader but is really specific about what he wants in a lab report. If you don't give him that he is not going to grade you well. He takes the approach of less is more so if you want to do good explain your experiment in the least amount of words possible while maintaining clarity.
Great professor, he really cares about how your doing in class and gets upset if you fail. Exams are ridiculously hard. You definitely have to pay attention and go to class to study. Hes very particular about how he wants the answers to be like. Answers need to be in depth. Very hard class
Hated him at first but in all honestly he's pretty brilliant. If you ever need help or something is unclear to you go to his office hours, he is always more than open to help out, just make sure that you aren't wasting his or your time. Don't expect him to go over everything you have done, but he will guide you in the right direction.
If you try hard and really study and go to his office hours and tutoring you will understand it maybe? just a difficult subject and concepts are hard to understand but learned a lot
His methodology of teaching encourages people to pay attention in class with his use of ping pong balls to get people to answer questions. While the subject he teaches can be confusing, going to him during office hours really helps. He cares about the grades of the students. The only part I was the length of the exams.
Professor Kapper announced on several occasions that "if your test papers or assignments were graded wrong it is your responsibility to bring it to my attention and fix it." He really lacks professionalism and speaks to students like they are children as if he has some sort of power conflict. I have so much more to say. But avoid this Professor!
Offers allot of extra credit. He is not good at teaching and explaining the subject in an understandable manner. He also does not have feedback at the end of the semester. Best bet is to pick another professor.
He moved through the material way too fast and grading was essentially based on what was received on quizzes and exams. Tried going to him during his office hours, but he seemed frustrated when explaining certain concepts. I had to withdraw from this course halfway through the semester because I was bound to fail.
Such a hard professor. Lectures are all over the place and he does not make the class easier. If you are taking for a GEN ED- don't. If you are taking it as a required course, choose a different professor. Save yourself the agony.
Dr. Kapper is not easy what so ever. However, he will guide you to be a cell biologist and train you to be a better student. EXAMS ARE LONG! They make sure you FULLY understand everything. That being said I am a much better student because of Dr. Kapper
Kapper is pretty rude. Not a very good teacher. Seems frustrated whenever students ask a question. Unproffesional
This guy is the WORST. I would not recommend this to my worst enemy. I would rather have aids. He is Satan. You probably shouldn't study for the test because its not on what you review in class. He treats you like an idiot and teaches you the hardest concepts. This is a classic example of someone who chose the wrong career path and hates his life.
Not going to lie, you will have to study a lot and Don't skip class. Kappar is knowledgeable in this area and you will learn a lot from him. He does care about his students and wants them to learn. He will give you his full attention during office hours and gives a lot of extra credit. He wants you to pass. You just need to put in extra effort
I had Kapper for Cell Bio, he was the most demanding professor I've ever had and he can be sarcastic, but he does try his best, is helpful, teaches well, and is very knowledgeable. I passed with an A, but make no mistake you will work for every single point. If you're looking for an easy A, take literally any other class at CCSU.
Dr. Kapper is the worst professor I have ever had. He teaches way too fast, yells at students for asking questions, and does not have any respect for his students. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS YOU WILL NOT PASS! He should be removed from the university he is that bad. I am sorry to anyone whoever has to deal with his teaching in the future!
Professor Kapper is the most difficult professor I have ever had for one reason: because he forces you to learn. For this same reason, he is one of my favorite professors I have ever had. Yes, he comes across a bit rude sometimes, but (and he will say this himself!) he is trying to help you. All you have to do to pass is pay attention in class.
Just do not do this to yourself. He is very rude, very condescending to questions, & assumes you know everything.
Don't take him if you have a choice. He is a hard grader. I came to EVERY class & did every ex credit. Still would get C's at most on the 3 exams. Offers test corrections- super helpful. But I would not have passed this class if it weren't for the corrections and ex credit. SO HARD to predict what info will be on the test. Record his lectures!!!
Everyone shits on Kapper but I loved him
Kapper is super old school. He will tell you that you have to know literally everything he teaches to get a good grade on exams. No study guides, no review packets, just your notes, the textbook, and the slideshow for study material. Goes through 56+ slide lecture really fast, so go over the topic before you come to class or you'll be so confused.
He's very rude. He tells us to ask questions but is very condescending when we do. I went for extra help and the way that he explained things was confusing.
Professor Kapper's teaching style consists of mostly lectures and he goes through these lectures at a very fast pace. He goes through these lectures at a very fast pace, so its hard to keep up and take all the notes, so you probably would have to go home and look through the lecture slides.
Kinda chill but puts ambiguous responses to the some of the wrong questions that I correctly answered. Some ambiguous questions come from nowhere and chapter slides were alright; although Im not a STEM major. Allows exam rewrites and gives you partial credit and extra credit possible points. I would not recommend to take this class with him.
He's not a bad teacher, but he really makes you work for it. I got a 25% on my first quiz with him, but ended with an A. You need to go to class and take notes. What worked for me was recording his lectures and then listening to it and filling in anything I missed my notes. This class is passable, but I would look for other professors first.
I had A's all in highschool, took Kappers BMS class. Passed with a D and have to do a fifth year to become a nursing major. Nice guy but dont take his class if you dont have to.
Great professor, I was actually scared to have his class but it was great went by fast. His grading can be a little confusing but he offers extra credit a lot! even after every exam.
The class lectures move very fast, a lot of student missed a lot of information, which caused bad test grades. But on the bright side he allows exam re writes and extra credit
He gets a lot of hate for no reason. He was a pretty funny guy and always knew how to lighten the mood. Tests are difficult but for the quizzes he basically posts all the answers so studying off of that helped. Offers plenty extra credit to keep your grade from dropping.
I took Kapper Fall of 2022. TL;DR: You will get out of this class what you put in. While his lectures are posted online, he does a really great job of explaining things in class and WILL tell you some specific things to know for the test. I took notes while he talked and added to them later. Extra credit is available and test remediations, too.
Not a good professor
Professor Kapper is a good professor ultimately he wants you to learn and he definitely knows what he's talking about. The class is easy as long as you do the work, in his lectures he will purposely put something he said in class on the exam so it's better to come to class. Also he does exam rewrites so you can earn back points on tests.
Prof Kapper is a great teacher, especially when teaching a course heavy class. You get the grade based on the effort you put into class, he offers test corrections to gain a lot of points, and he has a ton of extra credit. He genuinly wants everyone to pass and he will tell you answers to the exams during the lecture.
Honestly, you end up teaching yourself I recommend reading subjects before class he does as well. Very confusing he really likes you showing up to office hours ,he'll explain concepts. Allows you to rewrite exams except for the final which really helps but other than that really confusing. There is a online textbook.
The class itself is super easy. He explains everything very well and allows test corrections and extra credit if you're struggling. The only reason I wouldn't take it again is because he is a very interesting guy to say the least. Overall, he makes this class super easy but he's a lot to put up with.
goes very fast. tells you to ask questions, but when you do, you are mocked. i have had him for multiple classes atp, and hated all of them. only good for bms 103.
Honestly after seeing the ratings this guy got I was very surprised, he was a very entertaining teacher all though he is very old school. He gives practice quizzes before the quizzes that cover almost the exact same material that the real quiz has. Very entertaining guy but insanely lecture heavy with extra credit opportunity/some HW.
