I don't like his teaching style at all. I feel even if I am not attending his lecture, It won't really make any difference. Hard exams!! He usually asks lots of question from the diagram and you won't know what he can probably ask. His teaching has no clarity. I would not recommend him.
I felt like the lectures were very heavy, but he explained everything well. We played games for review, in groups before midterms for bonus marks. And the exams were very fair. And there was no textbook readings!
He is a good professor. He set up a game before midterm which is for extra marks. He cares for every student. His Exam is not too tough. if you read and listen him carefully, then you will absolutely get better scores
He's really easy going, and not too. hard. If you don't study the lecture material you will do poorly, but his tests aren't hard. Theres four assignments, all of which were easy and he drops your lowest quiz. Wish I could have Martin for all my courses!
Engaging, personable, and actually cares. He will take the time to see you if you need the help and explain in lots of detail. He engages with the class rather than just throwing information at them and highlights key concepts to help guide your studies. Leave your ego at the door, ask for help when you don't understand and you can do well.
If not the best, then one of the best BIO proffs I've had. Highly recommend. Very clear, specific, and visual lectures. Iclickers, quizzes, assignments, and games that help you learn. If you put it in the right amount of effort, you will get a good grade with him!
He is a great teacher. Give you notes and all the midterms comes from the notes in clear manner
I took Biology 1111 from Martin. I passed the theory part, but her lab instructor Anita Bergman was not good at all. She was so mean. She does not care at all in any kind of matter. She does not have appropriate knowledge. Boring lectures in lab. I would recommend Martin but no Anita at all. I will give 0 rating to Anita.
Awesome teacher! His class is never been boring. You'll not get surprised by exams, not too difficult but you still need to study a lot;))
INCREDIBLE PROFESSOR....A+++++
I am not surprised Martin has great reviews. There are a lot of chances to get marks assignments (easy 100%), quizzes (drops worst mark), and IClicker questions that reflect test material. Very visual (draws lots of pictures) and will ask you questions to ensure you understand major concepts. I will take his class whenever possible. Fav prof!
I liked him as a person and his class is easy if you read the notes. . . maybe a little too easy. He is very passionate and cares about student success.
Martin is literally one of the best bio profs i have ever encountered he does his best to help his students and i like the way he explains the material and makes it simple (he draws on the board to facilitate learning) i recommend him 100%
"Take home message is," Martin always makes sure that students understand his lecture by providing visual images, drawings, and even questions that make you think critically and comprehend the material even further. Profs like him are the realest; you absolutely will not regret taking him.
Martin is such a nice person and an amazing professor. The content of Biochemistry itself requires lots of memorizations, and he helps students to selectively study important informations to prepare for exams. He is very helpful during his office hours, and he tries his best to help students to do well in the class. I definitely recommend him.
He is a great prof. You'll definitely enjoy his classes and his exams are fairly easy if you study enough.
He is great. Very helpful and does care about his student. Beware of the scientific explanation thing in LAB.
Professors Lee is probably the most caring prof I have encountered. Hes easy to talk to and puts in extra time to go over more difficult concepts. He uses great analogies and drawings to help you understand the material better. Hes very interactive with his students, always making sure hes clear. Definitely recommend taking him for any course!
Martin is very professional and his language is clear when teaching a lecture. He gives analogies and examples so you can understand the topic more. He's also caring, isn't annoying, encourages questions during lectures and doesn't teach too fast. As long as you listen to lectures and read the textbook you will succeed!
Lee is a tough grader lol. Also get ready to read the textbook. His lectures are HEAAAAAAAAAVY!!!!! U won't understand a thing unless u rewatch
Martin is a REALLY good prof. If you're a visual learner I highly recommend him, he likes to draw things out that may seem confusing during lecture. Exams were always fair and straight forward. His lectures are pretty heavy and long, but he's really helpful during office hours. He also always clearly says what will be testable to help you study.
Martin's a really great professor! We had two midterms and one final, as well as weekly quizzes and assignments. Lectures can run heavy, but he does a great job at explaining the material. As long as you study the lecture notes and the textbook, you'll get a good grade!
I took Biology 1111 with Dr. Lee this past summer; I found him to be knowledgeable, good-humoured, and capable of making the lecture material more digestible through drawings and analogies. Was patient and helpful during office hours. The labs were stress-inducing, but the lab instructor Angelica was nothing but pleasant and helpful, too.
Dont trust the ratings. He was an ok professor. Not an excellent one. Perhaps Garyen may have been a better choice. Martin didnt teach this semester but I had him for the last one. Hes not that great.
Clear lectures. Just follow his instructions and u will get an easy B or plus.
Professor Lee is a great biology teacher who really knows his stuff. He expects you to work hard for your marks but you learn a lot in the meantime. He is very accessible outside of class and will even make an appointment to meet at your convenience. He has a really dry sense of humour but that's ok-it's school after all. Good luck!
It takes forever to get your Midterm grades back. Despite the marks, you won't get to see your work unless you book an office visit with him. He is knowledgeable in his field (molecular biology), but when it comes to Anatomy, he flows like a brick-build house. He expects you to learn a lot and tests you on everything. If you want a good mark, pass!
I can quote his own words, the average for his calss is the final 65%. This alone will tell you how hard you need to study to get a good mark. This means that his best students reraly get A-
Martin Lee explains his lessons using simple terms and with great illustrations (his drawings). He is so knowledgeable! One tip, if you miss one class, you're like missing one week of lecture. Overall, 9/10.
Martin explains things thoroughly, and sometimes if the class does not quite get it yet, he'll try to explain it through his drawings. Doing well in his class is really easy if you do try to understand the material and he's always there to help and encourages you to sign up for office hours if you need that extra explanation of certain subjects.
Goat biology teacher, enough said
amazing professor. Material taught in class and on his lecture notes are actually tested. Study his notes and youll do well. Only thing to watch out for is lab exams which are usually run by a seperate lab instructor and are very different from any exam you probably have ever done
Good lectures, read a lot and never skip class. I recommend going to the tutoring center if you have difficulties with the course. Martin is kind of hard on people in his office hours and can make you feel uncomfortable so i dont recommend going there. Besides that I recommend taking his class because you can learn a lot of important topics in BIO.
Makes biology a piece of cake and fun learning.
Our succession as a class did not seem like something Martin was striving for. Lectures were great, very in depth but when it came down to where and what we should be studying for exams Martin could never give a clear answer. With the way Martin chose his wording for exams/quizzes I felt like we were being tricked. It's a hard class.
God teacher. Martin gave amazing lectures and is very helpful/nice during class as well as outside of class (office hours). He is always willing to answer any questions you have, so go to his office hours and ask him questions. Pro tip: ask him what to expect on quizzes/exams or any hints about them, since he does give good hints out. GOAT teacher.
One thing I can say about this class and Martin is it is very straightforward - literally no BS involved. With consistent studying + active recall techniques (!!!!!!) his tests and quizzes are relatively true to the source material. He is extremely helpful in office hours as well, making sure you really know and understand the content.
Phenomenal lecturer. Covered an astounding amount of material during the course yet somehow found the time to break it all down with helpful illustrations on the white board. Straight forward and fair. He lays everything out for you, if you listen and follow along you will learn a tonne in his class while also achieving a high grade.
I really enjoyed taking 1190 with Martin, he was super helpful in providing clear feedback on midterms/quizzes. I found his teaching style to be engaging as he made sure the class was following the lecture. I found the written portion of the exams to be a little difficult, as he is very precise in what he wants as the answer, regardless great prof!
Dr. Lee teaches very well, straightforward and gives a lot of analogies to help students understand better. He can answer most of the questions students asks. But when he does not know the answer, he will have that answer in the next class. Great at replying to emails. Attend all of his classes and pay attention.
Mr. Lee has a very clear lecture. He prints all the note packages as well as provides them online. The tests and quizzes are like his notes and there is nothing beyond. The GOLDEN point is he allows at least 6 pages of "cheat sheet" during all of the quizzes, midterms and the final, so you don't have to worry about memorizing every single part!
Martin is a good prof and a good guy. Biochem is hard, but not with Martin. Ironically my favourite class of the semester because I enjoyed coming to his lectures -- His exams are basically his notes, which are super fair. He's always accessible via email and really cares about his students. I couldn't recommend him more :)
Solid prof. Kinda goes too fast sometimes but you can really tell he likes what he does. Enjoyed his class.
His lecture is quite easy to understand. Difficult biological knowledge becomes very clear in his words.
Martin was an amazing professor. He cared about his students and their learning. He goes over his lecture content and helped out in labs too, made occasional jokes that would crack up his students but often had material left over when he ran out of time and sent his students home to read over the rest.
This course was quite difficult for me but Martin had engaging lectures. He was a really friendly person overall and really got to know his students. Make sure you participate and take notes and you will be a-okay!
Martin is a straightforward prof with a dry humour LOL. He's engaging and drops hints regarding what's for sure in the exams. Quizzes are MC, exams are MC, written questions, and matching. His lectures and slides are clear and will not test on whats not mentioned in the slides, but ofc do ur own part to go thru the textbook if it's not in detail.
Passionate about what he teaches, makes him a great teacher wish I could take him for 1215
Lectures were very content heavy and he would try to cover multiple chapters within the one class which made it feel very rushed. I felt the way that he explained things could've been done more thoroughly. He was a nice professor but can sometimes make you feel dumb.
best prof ! listen to lectures; they are clear + he explains ideas & concepts very well- you should read the textbook regardless to excel. he goes over what you need to know on exams & what you do not need to know. all quizzes are MC, exams/finals MC & written. study from wiley+ and you'll pass easily, study consistently and def. do not fall behind
Martin is a great prof, to say the least. He was quite lecture heavy at times as he had LOTS of ppt slides, but took time to carefully explain and demonstrate them. He has a great sense of humour and he wouldn't hesitate to call out any disrespect, which I admired. Tests and quizzes were mix of MC + short written answers.
To start with the pros, Martin is a great teacher. He always replies to emails and is very eager to answer any questions especially during the lectures. However, his quizzes, midterms, and final are ONLY multiple choice. I did not know this and found this very difficult. Some questions are about stuff not mentioned in lecture, must read textbook.
Martin is an amazing professor. He is super funny and his lectures are very engaging. He uses lots of analogies which make understanding the material quite easy. But he does require you to attend his classes and pay attention because exam questions come from what he teaches and not just what is written on the slides. 100% would recommend him.
Martin is a chill and funny prof. His lectures are slightly unorganized and he is often late to start. But overall his lectures are clear cut and enjoyable if you have a relaxed mindset. There is a group project/presentation. You get a cheatsheet for exams. Lecture notes are not posted.
He is absolutely amazing!! His lectures are never boring , he's witty and interactive. Makes learning biology really easy with the way he explains stuff! Would 100% recommend taking a class w him!
Martin is a really great prof! Going to lectures are really useful as he gives hints as to what's on tests/quizzes and explains what you need to know for tests/quizzes. Explains things very well and in depth. Quizzes/tests are straight forward, wording is a bit complex but study hard on lecture slides and you'll be fine. Work hard for good grades.
He is an amazing professor and teaches bio so well. He explains everything clearly and answers whatever questions well. His exams are hard with a lot of content but it's expected of a biology class and it's not crazy hard to get a good mark, you just need to be a hard worker and keep up. 10/10 would take him again
has an interesting sense of humour.. but besides that martin is the best prof! biol1190 is a tough class, but martin's lectures are clear and easy to digest. he tends to draw stuff out on the whiteboards to clarify. he provided paper notes, but definitely read the textbook when studying for midterms and final. 10/10 would take again.
honestly martin is great at teaching and his office hours are very useful. bio is very heavy and going to lectures are beneficial. however he's sometimes passive aggressive towards struggling students. he's very enthusiastic abt biology and great at teaching but his humour is kinda weird and tries to be funny but is sometimes even insulting.
He will explain the lecture slides thoroughly. But sometimes, he does rush through the slides which will leave students confused. Of course, it is lecture heavy. Going to him during office hours will be useful as he explains stuff that you don't understand. Questions on quizzes, midterm, and final were worded weirdly.
He's an interesting professor, and has a passion for biology. His lectures are thorough, but it's up to the student to GO TO OFFICE HOURS if you don't understand anything! I cannot stress this enough, as he doesn't have students show up often, and will take up plenty of time to help YOU out! It's a hard course, and I can't recommend him enough!!
Biol 1190 is a heavy class, but Martin makes it interesting and easier to understand. He will often hint at what's going to be on exams so make sure you're always paying attention. He's very receptive to questions so make sure to ask if you don't understand something, or go see him during office hours. Overall great prof!
He is an amazing teacher and explains concepts clearly. Majority of the exams were multiple choice with a few written questions. The written questions were usually parts of the chapter that we spent a lot of time in class or were mentioned frequently. He frames his multiple choice questions very wordy so make sure to read the questions carefully.
Just go to his office hour when you confused, he helps a lot
Honestly, a solid biology teacher. He wants students to do well and teaches the class with efficiency and effectiveness.
He's great at teaching the subject! Bio 1190 is a tough course, but he really manages to explain it in an easy-to-understand way. Weekly quizzes worth 1% each were all MC, majority of each exam was multiple choice too. Everything on the exams was what he explained in the class; no surprises. Overall great prof, would take him for 1191 if I could.
In class, he was very interactive with his students and had very straightforward lectures with great analogies so that students can understand. However, during office hours he was condescending when I asked questions and even said "This information isn't going to your brain, it's just going out your ears" which was very uninspiring.
Martin knows the content of this course very well. However, he can be condescending to students at times.Thankfully, my only experience was when he mansplained to about how to use a microscope, but I know of worse incidents from fellow classmates. He can be egotistical, attention-seeking, and a man child. If you can avoid all that, he's great.
He's a great professor! He's willing to help you if you are confused about a specific area of the lesson. Do not hesitate to go to his office hours for questions. I find his lectures pretty interesting since he teaches the class with passion that makes a student want to listen. If only he teaches 1191, I would take him without hesitation. ^—^
hes amazing
gave only 4 quizzes (which weren't enough for the amt of chapters we had) and 4 online assignments which didn't prepare me for the midterms. his class is VERY cell bio heavy- be careful if u take 1190 with his 1115 class. he's a straightforward prof. go to lectures as he gives hints as to what's on exams. office hours are great, but his attitude...
I took last year in the fall sem, did not like his teaching style where he basically reads of the powerpoint. Sometimes goes off track to talk about something else. Does kinda explain a bit more during teaching but not as sufficient as enough. Consist of written and multiple choices for midterm and final. MC for quizzes. Assessments were a pain.
Martin was a very confusing man to be very honest, he would teach off of his slides and then go off on a tangent explaining other things on the whiteboard but would never upload images of what he wrote down so it was fully on you to remember or get a picture. His exams were difficult due to how he would be all over the place in the lecture.
This was such a fun course and super easy. If I could take again for fun I would!
bro is lowk ahh at his job,he just reads off of his slides and doesn't even make his own power points. He is just boring. He made us learn a major unit on our midterm by ourselves 2 days before the midterm. His tests are so long it is actually PMO. When you ask any intellectual questions he says " um... uhhh.. lets google it" bro does not know ahh!
Mr. Lee is super helpful and always willing to help, even during breaks or outside office hours. BIO 1190 is lecture-heavy, but he makes it really easy to understand. He draws things on the board to explain concepts, and he genuinely wants students to get it. I'd definitely recommend him for BIO 1190.
hes great but sometimes rushing the lecture just to finish the chapter to move on
I love him, he's such a chill memeable guy. He cares enough about his students to understand how hard this course is and give advice based on it. He does rush through slides a lot, and his tests require deep understanding of the concepts. I do NOT recommend self-studying. Listen to him, take advantage of your resources, and get help if struggling.
Martin will usually let you know which parts he won't test on and what he will, so it's important to attend lectures to find out. He makes lectures engaging through humour and draws diagrams to help explain content. He's very helpful and kind during office hours, so make sure to attend if you're struggling.
martin knows & teaches the concepts of 1190 well. requires wiley+ for assignments. lectures are very packed, sometimes rushed, but he gives hints as to what's on exams. slides are compacted versions of textbook- i personally studied from his slides. exams are mc, multi-select & short answer. you'll learn a lot from his class. listen & study hard :)
Martin is a great professor who cares for his students. Make sure to show up to lecture as many topics are talked about in depth making it easier to understand. He takes time and effort to explain topics to students and often draws out diagrams on the board to elaborate. A downside is during the last few weeks he tends to rush his lectures.
Will sometime show up late to class but it's okay. Good explainer
Martin is nice and very willing to help students but because this course is really heavy content. You need to put LOTS of time into this course. His first midterm was okay but his second midterm was hard and his word was not trustworthy...Overall, he is mid and it really depends on how much time you put in.
