He is the best teacher.. He makes speaking fun. I was always nervous when it came to making speeches.. Not anymore. He helped so much. He is absolutely awesome, too!

excellent professor. from day one he made everyone feel at ease and showed that everybody gets nervous when speaking publicly. after the first class we all bonded and had a great semester. very calm and patient professor. I learned so many different things in his speech class.

Good prof, but has his favorites. (I was lucky.) Easygoing and cared about how we did. Very good class to take with him.

Mcdermott is a cool gangsta. makes class interesting, always has jokes.

i loved his class, it was easy and i didn't take 2 tests and still passed with a C. he's pretty fair in grading. i def. recommend him to anyone that needs to take this class.

He makes everybody feel comfortable, and always has a joke or story to tell. He is willing to help everyone and anyone with questions, or speech topics. The tests are kind of weird, but when it comes to grading speeches hes pretty easy. I highly recommend him!!

MARRRRRRTYYYYY!! unbelievable teacher. i looked forward to going to class every week. He is absolutly histerical and he makes everyone in class feel so comfortable. He is also a verry easy grader and he knows everything he teaches. You will learn alot in this class

Mr. McD is an amazing teacher, passionate, charismatic, & enthusiastic about what he teaches. He puts his students at ease & incorporates fun into the class. Martin made this class extremely easy to Ace. He's funny, smart and acknowleges an effort. I'm taking every other class he teaches!

He's a nice guy and kept the lectures as interesting as possible. It's a hard class with 3 formal speech requirements, but he makes you feel comfortable to speak in front of the class. The tests are hard because they're based from the book. Overall, the class is definitely worthwhile.

You never use the book in class, but you need to read it since the tests are based on the material. He does, however, give good notes. Don't give any late speeches! Oh & speechs are graded on alot of different things so he might be a little tough with that. Prof McDermott is overall a nice guy (a little dorky, though!) and I would recommend him

i loved his class. he always cracked jokes to keep us interested at 8:30AM. he grades fairly, and respects hard work at effort put into his class. attendence is a must, by the way./

He is a good teacher. Keeps you the whole time but it is alright. Really not that much work. Tests are hard. Notes are notes. Speeches are alright. Take the class, there is really nothing that bad about it.

One of the best classes I've ever had, and one of the best Professors. Prof. McD is extremely smart, helpful and understanding. If you apply yourself, you WILL pass and you WILL learn the basics on effectively speaking in public. I only wish I could take more of his classes. Highly recommended!

Prof McDermott makes you want to come to class. He makes his lectures fun, interesting &applicable to life. Attendance is MANDATORY & you lose points for every class you miss. You must perform 3 speeches. This class was REALLY helpful to me for speaking in public and definitely made me feel more confident and comfortable. He's an AMAZING TEACHER!

Prof. McD is one in a billion.You will never find another Prof. as kind,intelligent and caring towards his students like him.He knows what he's saying,he's not afraid to show his true self as a sensitive,kind,hardworking person.He knows where his students come from when they're nervous and he makes each and every one of us feel good about ourselves

He's incredible,I would have never thought a Public Speaking course could be fun. I was literally shaking before the semester started but he transformed such a fear into something I love to do today.No kidding.I'm now majoring in Communications because of Prof.McD. He's amazing with how he can effect your life with just one semester.He's great.

Professor McD is awsome. i had a lot of fun in his class. he makes Public Speaking fun, and helped everyone feel relaxed and comfortable with speaking in front of the class. definately take him, since almost everyone is required to take public speaking. you wont regret it.

He is a great teacher...he makes class alot of fun and is funny, i didnt love the class just because it is public speaking and i hate it but he really did make it a lot of fun and a lot easier than it could have been...Would deff take him again

What a way to spend the semester! Generous with time, curve and understanding! If I wasn't so busy with other classess, I would have aced the class! Fun and very easy on the eyes!

Prof McD is generous,understanding and the best example of what a teacher can be when he/she is following their true path. Never a bad moment in class, sorry to say i didn't give it 100% due to overload, if i did, i would have easily aced it! He makes public speaking engaging, entertaining and enlightening! He is also easy on the eyes!

Honestly he is the best teacher I have ever had in my life. He is very entertaining and makes the class so much fun! I would take his class again in a heartbeat. The tests are a breeze if you read the chapters and for the speeches just follow his directions and you will do great! I highly recommend taking his class!

The class was a blast. By three weeks into the semester everyone was really friendly and we couldn't stop talking, thanks to the exercises and get to know you stuff Mr. McD made us do. The speeches were easy, he makes it very clear what he wants. He tries a little to hard to be funny though. He doesn't really lecture though so tests can be tricky.

Prof McD is great! If you are nervous about public speaking which many are, dont even worry about a thing bc this professor makes it so easy. YOu have plently of timeto prpare speechs and outlines. There are several xtra cedid oppertunities. He is seriously one of the greatest professors ive had.I strongly recommend him if you need to take a speech

I would deff recommend this professor! I hate speaking in public but he made the class seem so much better with his fun activities and humor. He cares about your performance in the class and grades fairly.

Professor McDermott is very sweet and nice person. He is one of my best professor. He made class's environment fun learning and makes his students feel comfortable which helped me a lot. My opinion: There are 4 tests and reading textbook is a MUST for the test. He grades very fair. Spend plenty of time to prepare the speeches. Thanx pro McDermott.

Funny and very knowledgable

Very nice. Makes you feel so comfortable speaking. The entire class becomes friends and comfortable with one another. He's very accepting and understands how difficult speaking is. He's an easy grader.

Class is easy, only a few assignments. Participation is a biggie, he takes off points when you're not in class. Fairly easy going. Textbook isn't really needed but is necessary if you want to complete the study guides for the two tests. Super easy A if you put in the slightest bit of effort.

He says you need the textbook to study for tests, but I was able to receive an A without it. Just pay attention and you should be fine. Prof. McDermott is great though; he's very funny and caring and really makes everyone feel comfortable. He always tries to help and gives great feedback. Would definitely recommend!

Professor McDermott is a laid back dude. He's really sweet and makes you enjoy the class very much! I suffer from extreme anxiety and I made it through the class! He gives extra credit and make sure you read for tests! TAKE HIM FOR SPEECH!

Public speaking is a very difficult class for many, but Professor McDermott made this class fun and enjoyable. He does fun activities to get you used to being in front of a class, so you are prepared and less nervous when it comes time to a speech. Tests are easy, and offers a lot of extra credit. Highly recommend taking this professor!!

Really great professor. Very kind and charismatic, and really cares about his students. No one ever really wants to public speak but he helps you feel comfortable and to cope with the anxieties. I met a lot of really great friends through this class, do yourself a favor and take his class!

When giving your speech, he is a tough grader, and the test are not bad, they are mostly straight forward. I got a B+ in that class, wish i got an A

Good professor and makes giving speeches seem much less scary. He gives really good feedback after your give your speeches. He gave out study guides for the tests but half of the stuff on them weren't on the tests. Otherwise, really helpful and wants to see you do well.

Professor McDermott is a great guy, he cares for his students and is quirky in a really good way! Public Speaking online sounds awkward at first, but you present in front of an audience you gather; it makes for fun family or friend gatherings. I like professor McDermott. Hes strict of attendance as well as homework and outlines. He doesnt tolerate plagiarism. If he catches students plagiarism, hell give you a big fat F and thats it, youve failed the assignment and the class itself. Also hell fail you if youre cutting too many classes. He uses flipped learning. Nice on the outside.

I like Professor McDermott. Hes a good professor. For interpersonal communications, he uses flipped learning. Just like he does in public speaking. Its sad that I cant take his classes anymore because I already took Speech 115 and speech 130 already. Public speaking and interpersonal communications are crucial to life but he handled it very well

One of the best professors Ive ever had. Super nice guy and as long as you do the speeches youll pass. Id say its almost impossible to not pass as long as you do the assignments and show up. Martin is a great guy and a pleasure to have as a professor.

I really enjoyed Professor McDermott's class. He uses the flipped classroom method so you do all the lecture and test assignments at home, and do actual public speaking in class. He makes public speaking less awkward and enjoyable as you're constantly speaking in class. Tests are online and speeches aren't difficult, prepare and you'll do great!

I enjoyed Professor McDermott's Honors Class. He keeps the lectures engaging and allows everybody to participate. He is very accessible outside of class and gives good feedback quickly. He is very knowledgeable about the subject and is very passionate about speaking. Tests can be difficult and speeches are graded via clear rubric.

Prof McDermott is one of my favorite professors ever. He was extremely kind and even got us mugs for all of our hard work! I genuinely learned so much as well. He was an extremely fair grader as well.

He can be pretty strict with grading, but he always offers specific advice on improving. I highly recommend Professor McDermott especially if you are anxious about public speaking.

If you need to take speech 115 take it with Professor McD. He's a great professor, he cares for his students and makes the class very interactive. He's always attentive, always provides great feedback for each speech and even though class was 3 hours he gave us a break and time flew by. Great teacher definitely would take him again.

Whole heartedly was one of the best professors I have taken in my collegiate career. I took his class in Spring 2022 and cannot express how valuable his class was to my education. He loved our class and loved having fun with us. The speeches everyone felt relaxed and he always gave us great feedback.

Took McDermott over the winter, overall had a very good experience. He was able to create a very friendly environment where participation felt natural, which was very helpful for a speaking course. The speeches where graded in a very consistent manor that was clearly stated in canvas. He did have us store our phones at the front of the room however

One of the best teachers I ever had. Made class interesting. Very comfortable vibe for speaking. Cares about students. Brought in pizza and played guitar on the last night of class.

Overall a good professor, I had him for public speaking and he was fair with grading and very relaxed with deadlines. While I had my presentations done on time, many didn't and he still let them present for (probably) full credit. He wants as many people as possible to be successful in this class and is entirely on your side, I 100% recommend him.
