Seriously! This guy is as bad as it can get! Never thought I would run into such a terrible teacher in my college life! This guy parties more than majority of the college students do! He spends minimum amount of time in teaching and grading! He didn't even read everything I wrote on the exams, and wrote me comments that are completely ironic.
Professor Morales is razor sharp. He doesn't expect too much -- you have to do the reading, listen to the daily news, and be able to write a 5 paragraph essay with competence. Come on, you're here to learn .. put in some effort and you will learn a lot from him. Wuss out and you'll get what you deserve, an "F"
The only person who would rate this guy good is himself! If you are skeptical whether you should take him or not, the answer is HELL NO!!! This guy is irresponsible, irrational, and irritable! It's a shame that CRC would hire someone like him.
worst teacher ever!
Very Approchable. He likes when you speack in class. Test directly from notes. If you lesten and study you will learn a lot from him. He cares about his students. If you struggle and you talk to him, he will help you out.
****ing **** teacher. i agree that he knows his material, but don't really know how to teach. He just give leacture and will completely held you responsible for what he said and will also expect u to remember all of lecture because there is no study guide or a particular topic he test u on during exam. only take his class if u r polsci major
One of the best teachers I've ever had. He is very clear on assignments too. If you want to understand this world, take this class!
Extremely hard teacher. Doesn't give study guide and your expected to remember everything. Doesn't even tell you whats in the test. But really knows his material. Take it only if your up for a challenge.
This teacher is the best teacher. Easy A.
Do the work, and you'll be fine, because he doesn't accept mediocrity.
he is horrible
He is a very skilled and thorough professor. his exams are on the important aspects of units, and are very difficult if you do not study to understand what the unit was on. but, he makes everything super interesting to correlate with recent events. graded on lecture participation, handful of midterms, a final, and one group project and/or paper.
Morales ROCKS. His first lecture weeds out the faint-hearted, but I ended up liking his class so much I took him the following semester and even changed my major to IR. You HAVE to go to class. You won't pass if you skip the lecture. He helped me get accepted to 10 major universities by writing an awesome recommendation for me.
One of the best Professors I have had!!! His class is difficult and the tests are hard if you do not study. As far as his teaching, He is very passionate about the topics and it really shows. He is very knowledgable abut the subject and proves this through the many vast experiences he references from his personal life. I would take him again.
International Relations-- He thinks that he is "HOT****", but he's really not-- very cocky man. Though his class is usually very interesting and informative. He grades incredibly hard on his tests... usually essay answer and he is very picky about your response. Overall, not a hard class, just intimidating. I easily passed with a B.
He is very smart about the topic since his job continues outside the classroom, but he is a very difficult grader on tests which are all essay questions. Assigns one paper (10 pages) and 4 tests including final. Only take him if you are dedicated to the willingness to actually study otherwise his class will be impossible to pass.
yea morales thinks he is the****ttttt...but never, not even in his dreams...he is very cocky and that just makes him give vibes as if he is stupid...not a bad teacher but he thinks he's some hotness kills him...honestly!
Is a very polished lecturer and makes the subject quite interesting. Often relates his lecture with recent issues in the U.S. govt. and in other parts of the world. However, this class is no walk in the park. Take him only if you are passionate in politics and diplomacy.
Prof is very informative and class discussions are usually interesting. A lot of reading is needed to pass this course and all tests are in essay form. He is VERY picky about essay responses and expects a lot out of his students. If you are not dedicated and willing, I would pass on Morales.
I can't stand this guy. He thinks he is way to good for anyone else, and talks his students down. His lectures are very disorganized and his pop quizzes have nothing to do with what he talks about. I consider myself a fairly good student, went to class everyday, and watched the news, but this class was bull ***. I ended up dropping the class.
awesome teacher!he's extremely tough but show up to class, do the work and participate you should be fine. all he wants is for you to know your place in the world. that speaks volumes teachers nowadays
He is very passionate about policital science & what is going on, but he is the toughest teacher ever. he is very particular about his tests (all are essay questions. 10 page report due near end of semester. I failed it so he let me re-write the whole thing and still pass me at semester. unless you are very studious, DONT TAKE HIM. HE SUCKS
Very fair professor. His tests are in essay form and are probably the hardest thing about this class. Take LOTS of notes and pay attention during lectures. He has you write one 8-page paper; not that bad. Read the newspaper every day and be prepared to discuss major news items in class. Lectures are interesting, and he will gladly clarify anything
May seem jerk at 1st but is VERY cool passionate teach/person. Expects you to learn & earn your grade. Not an easy class, but not hard if you take notes & show up. Can talk too fast for lectures if has coffee. Assigns a 8pg research paper early. Tests are NOT easy but can pass if you prepare. Stay up on current events - GREAT teacher you'll learn.
He really opened my eyes to what is really going on in the world. Tough course and you gotta study hard, gotta keep up on current events that relates to the course study, and you gotta be on track with the readings. While in this class, he made me feel ashamed of being an American. I didn't like that... =(
Don't laugh...cry
Professor Morales is very rude. I e-mailed him one time to ask him a question about an exam, and he e-mailed me back and said, "I do NOT baby-sit my students!" I HATE him so much!!
He's an amazing teacher. even if you know nothing of politics, he is the pefect teacher to give you insight and make you give a damn about whats going on. He's smart and funny, but what i admire most is that not only does he give you raw facts but also pushes and lets articulate and express your own ideas/opinons. hes tuff, but amazing.
His class is hard....Morales does not know how to teach. DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS, you would be sorry!!!
Morales is extremely accessible and engaging. I'm actually thinking of changing my major to IR because of this class. He makes the subject interesting, and you shouldn't have a problem if you read what you're supposed to and show up to class. He's the best teacher at CRC, and wants his students to succeed. Take him only if you want to learn!
This man is an ok teacher, but the most cocky person I have every met in my whole life. He talks down to people, plays favorites, and he wont ever remember your name. He's an ass!
His class is very HARD! I just dropped out of his class. He is a nice guy, but I think that he is not a very good teacher, because HE DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO TEACH!! Do not take his class.
This guy is pretty cool. He sometimes embezzles the facts to conform to his liberal worldview but he's incredibly knowledgable and you better know damn well what you're talking about if you're going to try to rumble him. His exams are pretty simple if you make sure to study the book as well as your notes. He looks like Cris Collinsworth.
Do yourselves a favor, take any Political Science class from Professor Morales and you'll be glad that you did. He's a wonderful teacher who will keep you abrest of current events and how it relates to class. His tests are not difficult if you apply yourself and come to class prepared. He's extremely approachable.
Don't take his class.........Do youeself a favor and find another tecaher who teaches Political Science.
I'll tell u this much, this semester i got all A's and B's and i consider myself a good student but mr. morales is a terrible teacher. He expects way too much out of u and you won't even know whats on the tests or anything. One exam can break ur grade. if u do bad on the first exam, ur done. Doesn't know how to teach @ all.
Take a class from Morales! He is a wonderful prof. who will challenge and prepare you. He is very knowledgeable, and an interesting person to learn from. Just be prepared to learn a lot!
Wake up people. If youre trying to use this class to transfer this class will prepare you and show you what it is like at a higher level. Teachers are not supposed to spoon feed you answers to a test. this is a GOOD thing. Take this class and learn something.
Hard class, but not impossible to pass. Grade is based on exams and a research paper. Exams comes from both book and lecture notes. Take very GOOD lecture notes. If you are like me and don't take good lecture notes, then you should bring a recorder to class. It will help a lot.
This was a very challenging course for me. This class is very lecture driven, making attendance and note taking a key part in being successful. His midterms are all essays, and come straight from his lectures. This class is a lot of work, but no good professor is just going to hand you a passing grade, you have to work for it.
Reason he is cocky is because ego is too high. Lets face it. He knows he is smart, and does not want to share much info because He wants you to work for it. he work for his info. so will you! Dude has very high standard, and could careless of what you think about him. You will have to work harder than all your classes combine, and still fail.
One of the WORST professor's EVER! He does not answer questions throughly and does not give enough notes to student to achieve in this class. On the exam, he does not give you a study guide and simply instructs the class to read chapter 1-7 and the constitution. At the time of the exam, you have to answer 4-5 prompts in essay style questions tha
hard class. Didnt like it. pretty hard teacher. expects a lot out of you and tries to teach you like a whole load of stuff in one day, then the next do nothing. Puts you on the spot. Expects that you read or listen to the news every day and quiz you on whatever it is that had happen. So if you are off for like 3 weeks you would have to memorize thr
It was a VERY HARD class. I ended up droping out of his class. I do not recommend this professor because it is a very challenging class.
Professor Morales' classes are awesome. He'll always find a way to have it directly relate to your life, and he's very passionate about what he teaches. If you ever need help, he's happy to devote his time. I highly recommend his government class to anyone. You'll learn more than you'd expect over the course of a semester.
One of the best instructors I've had to date. His class is challenging, but it's supposed to be; it's college. If you expect anything less than to have to learn new things, you're in college for the wrong reasons. I had him for both 301 and 310.
Wow, sloppy! Sloppy lecture, as if he did not put any effort in it. Blah, Blah, Blah, that is what you'll get from the lecture. Lecture all over the place. Very concieted, grades too hard, and expect so much. How do you expect so much but give so little? No point in going to class when you don't learn anything.
Great professor! Very understanding, and enjoys his profession. Makes you work for your grade, but that is what college is about. You are not in high school anymore.
MR. Morales is probably one of the BEST teachers ive ever had.He isnt hard on grading if you participate . ASK questions, he likes it. He taught me to like a subject i knew nothing about. u dont get HW just midterms. DONT DROP the class the first day it seems hard its not. Take his class YOU WILL like HIM.i Plan to take him again!
He is a rigorous instructor. You MUST take notes, and you must learn to listen well in class. You have to read all the material. If you do that, you'll learn an incredible amount and get an A or a B. If you want a 'cake' class, this isn't it. If you want to challenge yourself take this professor. Don't try to BS him, he won't have it.
I do not think I can pass Morales's class even if I only take his class, and no other class. Do not take a class with Morales. Class is VERY HARD. Half of the class would drop out after the first midterm, because most people fail it. Look for another teacher for Political Science.
I've taken 5 courses from Morales. Trust me when I say that his courses are hours well spent. The course on the Middle East is one of the most informative and interesting classes of my Community College career. Morales expects a commitment from his students, textbook reading is not intense and if you manage your time well you'll do fine. Take it!!!
he isn't hard just incomprehensible. dude can't give a lecture without forgetting facts, not to mention his lecture is practically useless, and superficial, and he thinks he's good, pleazze! get a teacher that cares enough to make your money work, and not a teacher waste your time and $. skip him, it would be well worth it. irrattional teacher.
The rating below is mine but I couldn't not say more. Why are people saying not to take his classes because they're hard? Would you rather take a class that teaches you nothing? Morales teaches in a way that causes people to think and care. As for him not giving enough notes, TAKE YOUR OWN DAMN NOTES!! ::shakes head:: Idiots! I fear for our future.
for those who are encouraging others to take him cause he is "Hot" then you are there for a different agenda. You may be the smartest person in the room, but if you don't participate, you wont pass. I work harder than most, got an A, but he drop 10% and I got a B cuz I didn't talk. there is mathmetical solution to passing, and it is call ASS Kissing
everyone is right about saying the class is very tough. sure he is passionate about the subject but you better know the book inside and out AND kiss his ass big time if you want to pass if you dont raise your hand straight up you will not pass. test are essay questions and you have no idea what hes going to put so study EVERYTHING.
I think Mr. Morales is one of the best teachers i've ever had. Id recommend taking him but also make sure to participate he will pass you if you do. You should try to read on what he's going to lecture. He's very interesting and knows alot about what he teaches.
Morales is one of the best professors I've ever had. Very strong personality and very cocky- but impecable work. You have to think, and take really good notes. He all but writes the essays for you during lecture. He is not for the weak at heart. Also he's not for the ones who don't give a**** about class. If you are strong in studying, your golden
HIS CLASS IS HARD!Back when I was in high school I took AP Political Science and I passed my AP exam.I didn't have to take that class in college because I passed my AP exam but I decided to take it so I could get an easy "A." I almost failed his class.Funny thing is that I received 4/5 on my AP exam, but I almost failed that class with Morales.
I really want to take the Spring class 313, Latin American politics. Should I challenge instead? I mean, I wouldn't want to have to succumb to brown-nosing in order to succeed... Advice?
Simply put this teacher is the biggest egotistical prick I've come across in a school setting. He needs to continue on and be that lawyer, he would be perfect.
If you are brave enough to take a class with him then you should take Political Science 301 before taking other classes with him. He made us memorize the constitution and the amendments for Political Science 301. You MUST take GOOD NOTES.He doesn't lecture all the time but when he does lecture then that information would show up on his exam.
A great Instructor. Very informative and interesting. He will really open your eyes to understanding politics better. Made politics more interesting.
I do not recommend this profeesor. His class is very HARD. Tons of students dropped out after the first midterm exam. Only four people in my class passed the first exam in Political Science 301. I consider myself a fairly good student and I struggled a lot in his class. DON'T TAKE HIM!
Let's ignore the way he teach and focus on the course. If you are driven to be an intellectual, even if IR or Polisci is not your major, his course will challenge you to think critically, thus enhance your opportunities by the critcal thinking skills you will developed. He is a horrible lecturer, but I love his exams because they are so hard.
he is not as hard as Patching, and these classes actually enhances your critcal thinking skills.not IR or Polsc major, but i take his classes while taking calculus for my major. Im not there for the grades, I am there to learn.even if the highest grade i can get is a B,i am not stupid to shy from critcal thinkingskills, which will later served me
HE IS AWESOME. I always looked forward to his class and i learned a bunch. He is very intelligent and i totally recommend him =)
Half of the class dropped out by the 5th week of class. This was the hardest class that I have taken in my life. Morales is a hard professor. Only take him if you are good student. He grades the exam very hard. I would not take a class with him.
I don't recommend Morales to anyone.I consider myself a very good student.I am one of those students that has never missed a single day of school in their live.I worked very hard in his class, and even I had a hard time passing his class. If you do take his class, you should be a very good note taker.
This dude is a great lecturer however he grades his exams extremely hard; i got a B on the first midterm, than got a F on the second??? He sets you up proper if your a Gov. or IR major! not easy but if you pass; you will feel accomplished,NOT AN EASY CLASS AT ALL THO!
Morales is a very hard professor but will teach you alot. He grades hard and requires your regular attendance in class. He also expects you to participate in class discussions. If you can ignore his cocky attitude you can really learn alot in this class. I would recommend taking him if you really put in an effort in your classes.
At the end of the semester I would say less than 20 people enrolled. I've never seen people get up and leave due difficulty. I've never recv'd an F before on a test either, after studying for it. He's a smart guy top notch, but not a great teacher. It's hard 2 get passed the cockiness. Lectures were a bit much, 5 pages or more in notes. No power poin
don't understand what he's talking about and talks too fast.
his lectures are a must because EVERYTHING he lectures will be on the exam. the exams are in an essay format and they're mostly the material from the lecture. i did not read the book once in his class and i read over the notes the day before the class and i still passed.there's a huge project which is easy, he's a tough with that one though.gota B
Great professor, just come to class regularly and don't let him scare you off in the beginning then you should be fine! Would take his class again! oh and class participation is needed!!
I would not take a class with Morales again. You would have to study harder than your Calculas class to pass his exam. His exams are hard because his expectation is never clear. And he would put quetions on the exam that he never talked about. I would stay away from him.
Very old-fashioned lecture style, which I appreciate. No powerpoint, a few notes, and easily handles and encourages questions. He knows his stuff. That means you really have to know yours. Tests are all critical thinking questions. Lots of students take 310 to get out of a history class; be advised that it is every bit as hard as one, or more.
Morales's class is hard. I studyed harder in his class than any other class I had ever taken in my life! His exams are hard. ONLY TAKE HIS CLASS IF YOU ARE A SERIOUS STUDENT!
Professor Martin is probably the best teacher ive ever had. He is extremely bright and is very fair. If you are serious about the subject, he will put things into prospective for you in an amazing way. If you are just trying to get some GE out of the way, you should not even consider taking Morales, you will feel unintelligent by the second week of
His tests are all essay questions. He is SUPER hard! I studied hard but still couldn't make it! Nice intelligent man though, but he's super serious! Must be a SERIOUS student to pass his class.
Prof Morales is definitely not easy, but if you pay attention, take good notes, and study well, you will get a good grade. His tests are essay, but not difficult if you pay attention to lectures and what he stresses from the book. He will challenge you! If you are up for it, you will get a lot from his class. Don't be afraid to ask questions!
He's a nice person, but not a good professor.I would not take his class.I would NEVER RECOMMAND this professor; I would not even recommend him to my worst enemey!Tests are hard.If you do take him, make sure that you write down EVERYTHING that he says in his lectures. He doesn't give lecture notes all of the time, but he goes too fast on lectures.
he's a very smart professor crc is very lucky to have him, this is a professor you'll want to pay extra attention to, he's out for the fall semester but will be back
He is a great teacher! This guy knows his stuff, especially foreign policy! DO NOT MISS CLASS u will fall behind, TAKE GOOD NOTES, even if you record his lecture, you still want to take good notes and replay it just to check what you missed. Take good notes and you will do good. Choose a fun topic for the 10 page research!
MORALES IS DEE MAN! He never scared me, because I come from a school system of scary teachers! I am used to being scared! DEF take Morales if you want to learn a lot! He's not easy, but he's very reasonable...! PS: IF YOUR LAZY AND HORRIBLE AT ESSAYS, BACK OFF HIS CLASS!
CAUTION! Only take this class if you are into chovinistic, egotistical, LIBERAL profs! He talks badly about his ex wife and Sacramento constantly, flirts with only some female students, uses profanity, and says socialism is the answer in every lecture...he's very unprofessional.
By far the best professor at CRC. If you don't slack and show interest in the subject you will do fine. If you want an easy A (without doing to work), this isn't the professor for you. But if you want to learn about the real world outside of the US, take his class. He is smart, helpful, and it doesn't hurt that he's easy to look at.
Tough
He is one of the hottest teachers that we have but really that is the only great thing about the class. He's very intelligent and knows what he is talking about, but his class is more difficult than any other class I've taken. 12 page research paper and a bunch of exams with numerous essays in 'em.
This professor is EXTREMELY intelligent! Although his class is my hardest, it is also my favorite! I look forward to his class and learning new things. I am not the brightest and I really wish I could comprehend the material easier but he is definitely helpful and strict but kind. I am now convinced that I want to major in Political Science. (:
Morales is not horrible. He's just over-expectant and egotistical. He makes you feel as though there REALLY IS such thing as a stupid question in class, as his answers are often condescending. Workload is heavy and all exams are essay form, you must be able to CITE the Constitution. He brings maybe a little too much of his personal political agenda
He comes off as a hard professor the first day, but if you stick it through then you will enjoy his class. Very smart guy who knows his material. I would highly recommend him to all government major students. You will walk out of his class with more knowledge and a different perspective of government.
You have to try in his class, but you also actually learn something in this class. It's not an easy type of class but he's super helpful when you have questions.
I love Martin! He is well educated and shares his knowledge with his students. He is super inspiring. All the people on here complaining about him are just lazy! You actually have to study to do well in college!
I love professors like Morales. Don't take his class lightly. It's hard but you will definitely come out of it having learned something of substance. The foreign policy section of the class is the best. He seems hardcore at first but lightens up as the class gets smaller and it will. Read the book and dont let the 12 pg paper intimidate you!
I absolutely LOVE Mr. Morales. I'm not a very serious student, and I failed his first midterm. I still got a B in the class. He is extremely liberal. Just engage in class, do the few easy assignments, and you'll pass no problem. His lectures on Latin America are amazing. He becomes a friend by the end of the semester.
Morales is a very good teacher, he seems hard in the beginning but comes around in the end. Test are difficult, bc they are essays and he doesnt provide the questions before. There is one paper and he dosnt grade it hard. Lectures were very interesting and I learned alot he is a great teacher!!
for my first year in an american college i was lucky enough to take professor Morales' class. He is very helpful and really polite and kind.
Professor Morales is am Amazing teacher. Very intimidating due to his comprehensible knowledge. It did make me challenge myself. His lectures are of the highest importance in his class and there may be 1-2 essay questions from the book. You'll get more information than you'd ever imagine from this course and its WORTH IT as a member of society
The class is hard, and Professor Morales requires a lot from his students. But the man is brilliant and easy to learn from, hard work and dedication is all it takes to pass this class. The knowledge you gain from this class at the end of the semester is priceless.
this guy was a pleasure to learn from. He tells you from teh beginning that he will kick your ass and make you think. It works because you truly understand the world and politics better after this fun fast paced course. I have had few professors that I enjoyed more.
Had him for Spring 2010. First impression, "I am going to have to work hard to pass this class." I did not like him either in the beginning. Yes, he makes you work for your grade. He is tough but you will learn something in the end of the semester.
Very intimidating professor but also very helpful as long as you ask for help. He is very good on what he does. Love him :)
He knows his stuff....the man was a lawyer. You will learn something from this class that will benefit you. Yes, he is tough...but ask for help or clarification and he will assist. Participate in class discussion & turn in paper on time. Best teacher by far at CRC.
amazing, amazing, AMAZING! seriously. he knows that polisci is boring as HELL & he makes fun of anyone who wants to major in it haha. but prof morales makes everything fun & interesting. he interacts w/ his students and really cares about them. actually do the work that he assigns & you'll do great and really learn something. he is a GREAT teacher!
He grades mostly on attendance and his tests, he could care less about the quality of your research paper and he thinks he is the best teacher ever. He also thinks his class is the most interesting class you will ever take. I recieved a C and a B on my first two tests, a B on my research paper. My last test I got a D, and he made my final grade a D
LOVED HIM. I am a poli sci major now because of him. I was such an unaware citizen and now i know my current events. Be prepared to lose your social life if you take him.
The only thing that made me mad is the fact that I personally asked for help, and the following weeks he did'nt even show up to class due to his tv stuff. At the end it didnt feel like he was our professor. Maybe it's just me but he seemed more interested in his "analyst" life. And yes he does talk a lot about himself, but that's the fun part.
The man's got swag. Anyways, in the beginning he comes off as a hard-@$$! But, as the class goes along and everyone starts dropping (literally at least half the class), he gets easier. He gave 3 midterms, 1 group project, and 1 group final. Stick with it and take good notes! He's not as hard as everyone thinks.
Guy knows his stuff. At first he comes off as a hardass, but he gradually gets easier as the year goes on. No HW. 3 Midterms. All of them were take home for our class. Book reading up to you. Group presentation and paper. Get a good group, I got lucky. Definitely makes you think about the world . And dude's a spiffy dresser too and has favorites.
intimidating at first but actually a really great prof. always cracks jokes and tells funny stories here and there. knows his stuff. before this class, i didnt care about government or anything to do with politics, but now, it hits hard with me. he tells it like it is and makes you really rethink about our government. overall, i learned a lot. btw,
Very intimidating at first, but definitely improved by the end of the semester. Hardly used the book at all, but nice to have it to reaffirm theory stuff. You must take good notes or already know the topic to do his midterms. Can be a bit rambly in lectures. Very passionate about his field &, once he knows you're not a slacker, about students, too.
Prof Morales is an excellent instructor and very knowledgeable about government and international relations. I appreciated that he maintained control of the class and did not tolerate students texting or talking in class. If you read the material, write your papers with appropriates footnotes, and participate, you can get a good grade.
When you first meet him, he will be intimidating to you. Be prepared to get picked on if you screw up. But is very intellectual on his profession. Knows his stuff and strict but has a good sense of humor. Learned a lot in this class. Overall a professor that will make an impact on your education.
I took POLS 301 (American government)with Morales. He was arrogant but ignore it. Ask questions in class and pretend to be engaged in the material, have questions ready for current event assignments, and you'll get a good grade. Yes, all of the tests were essay questions (no pencil), but they were a reiteration of the main points of his lectures.
The man understands what it means to be a great teacher. He has zero tolerance for idiots and weens them out quickly. He holds high expectations but teaches because he wants to make a difference, not just collect a paycheck. His class is no joke, but you'll come out with a thorough understanding of the subject and motivation to continue in school.
Awesome teacher, had to work EXTREMELY hard to get my grade, but he knows his stuff. Personally, I didn't read, and thats what kept me from an A, but thats on me. If you pay attention during lectures/Presentations, you should be fine.
This professor took what could have been a very boring subject and made it a wonderful class. Like somebody said below me, he doesn't just teach for the paycheck. His tests are not too hard, if you take notes. This class was very fun. It was a little challenging, but I'm a little sad now that it's over. Don't drop the course; stick with it.
His 302 class is much more relaxed than 300. His exams are always stressful because the "study guide" topics are very broad and test questions very specific, but it forces you to really know all the material. You will read entire book. We covered every form of gov't used in the world. Best of all, grades are Tests+Group Presentations, No papers! :)
Do yourself a favor and sign up for his classes. He is an amazing teacher no matter how arrogant you think he may be. He is passionate about what he teaches, and he does an amazing job. He has inspired me to explore politics as a career. You will not regret taking his classes. Just do the reading, and ask questions if you are lost.
Morales is truly a great teacher. Pay attention in class and read your book and you'll actually learn something. Be sure to participate, don't be shy. Be engaged and listen to him lecture and you'll be fine.
Lectures are very important, and still entertaining. He makes his Guatemala lecture seem like a movie, its crazy lol. You actually learn a lot in his classes, which is different from most classes I attend at crc, if you know what I mean.
Class is hard. I've never had to study so hard in my whole life but I pulled off an A. Go to class, take really good notes, and listen when he tells you whats on the test. STUDY and listen and you'll be fine. Don't and you'll be screwed. It's a pretty fun class, though. He loves the topic and by the end I did to- decided to minor in it actually.
Great teacher, CRC has a diamond over there that will prepare you for any class. He requires definite study time and if you are in to half doing it, this teacher is not for you.
The professor's expertise in the subject was evident. His expectations are high so expect to work hard to earn your A. Midterms and final were essay questions so if you're organized and thorough, you will do fine. He has zero tolerance for stupidity, but is open to and encourages intellectual dialogue. Warning: Research paper was the main stressor.
Amazing, had him for US gov and IR and each time I learned so much. I really enjoy the way he teaches and the group projects he uses. He's a very clever teacher and it was a great semester.
He is very intelligent and knows his subject extremely well. You can tell that he is not a person that does this for a paycheck. AS LONG AS YOU STUDY YOU WILL DO FINE. Be sure to participate in class discussions and complete your 10 page research paper early.
Many students like him but I think he is very egostistical. Made us spend an entire class watching his undergrad presentation (necessary?) He talks fast, not very clear in his teaching...I don't think he adequately prepares us for his tests. On a personal level I'm sure he's different. Be ready for a challenge if you decide to take him
Morales was an amazing professor. I have honestly never learned more from a class. You can tell her has passion for the subject and wants to instill that same awareness in his students. If you are ready to work hard and you want to learn something this semester he is the professor for you! And if anything else he's easy on the eyes I'm just sayin'!
He grades really hard but is very clear.
Super cool professor. Just be nice and ask constructive questions and he'll like and respect you :D
He is an amazing professor! I looked forward to going to his class every time! If you've never had a gov class, it's really hard, but you learn a ton from it. I had a government class in high school so about 70% of the material was review for me, but he really loves his job, especially when you get to foreign policy! I highly recommend him!
He seems like a pretentious jerk at the beginning, and he'll be really hard on you... but it's NOT TRUE. He's passionate, super helpful, and an AMAZING teacher.
Morales is an awesome professor! I took the class in Summer so everything was rushed, but I enjoyed the lectures and movies and learned a lot. Take-home midterm and final + one 8-10 page paper. If you write well, you'll do well.
morales is hands down the best teacher on campus , i have taken him for all his classes latin america was my favorite ! he does hold his classes to a higher academic standard but thats to push his kids ... he will work with you as long as your honest and put in the work we are still friends to this day ! BEST TEACHER EVER!!!
Professor Morales is an amazing teacher who is very passionate about his subject. His lectures can be a bit heavy but he's clear-- just take good notes. I actually enjoy going to his class and i have learned a lot, especially about foreign policy. It's really an eye-opener. And he doesn't grade hard, he just expects good writing.
Professor Morales' classes are some of the toughest classes i have taken, yet i have never learned so much. He is an extremely helpful professor who really cares about his students, IF they do! I recommend people to take his courses, it may be difficult but you learn alot of discipline and you may even find yourself very interested in the subject!
My favorite professor on the entire campus.
Professor Morales is one of the best professors at CRC!! I took this course last semester and enjoyed it very much. He is very passionate about the subjects he teaches and he cares a lot about his students. He was the only professor at CRC who motivated me more to work harder and to achieve my goals. I thank him for that.
Not an easy teacher but makes it crystal clear exactly what he wants and how he wants it done. Midterms and final only takes from in class lectures so textbook is absolutely useless, google the subjects listed on the syllabus for next class discussion. Goes on tangents towards modern politics but that can be interesting if you like politics.
He knows his stuff and is selective. If he likes you, you will deserve his undivided attention. Otherwise,he comes across as a grade A jackass. Took his class in Spring 2012. Have not forgotten him a year later. You can tap yourself in the back if you survived his political boot camp. Nurtures the best and brightest politicians.
Not the easiest professor, he knows his stuff, and expects the class to be equally as educated. You can gain his respect with your knowledge, but this is definitely not the class for slackers. 12 page paper(25%), 2 midterms(30%) and final(30%) were essay questions. 1 presentation(10%), and class participation(5%). I ended up with a B. Tough class
The man is absolutely brilliant! He is very passionate about his discipline and always willing to help even outside of class. Morales can be very intimidating and his class is certainly not easy, but if you work hard he will respect you and you will end up learning a WHOLE LOT more from him than any other professor
I took Morales for the Summer and managed to score an A. Morales clearly puts down on the table his expectations. It is all up to the student to meet them. Take excellent notes, participate, record the lecture if you have to... But if you do your part, you will do well. Tough class but it's fair. I recommend Morales 100% for serious students.
I decided to take this class at a junior college to save a lot of money which was a big mistake. 80 percent of the class is about personal stories and how to transfer to a four year university while only 20 percent is lecture. He doesn't even help when you ask for help and didn't even grade the essays in time. Hard to take this seriously.
My god he is great looking, But don't let it fool you. When he gets down to business, you wanna run for the hills. More than half the students drop after the first week of class! As long as you are committed to the class, do your research, and prove to him you've done the reading, you'll at least get on his good side =]
i believe if only 4 students pass the mid terms and it isnt graded on a curve that tells you more about the professor than the students. he lives for his job and expects you to live for his class, he also rambles incredibly fast at times and expects you to retain all of the information. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS UNLESS YOU ARE A POLS MAJOR! also, rude.
Morales is very cocky, he intentionally runs students out of his class, which is fine the first week but he continues all the way up to the last day to withdraw with a "W". Not a good teacher, If you have to take his class stay on top of current events, participate always, be prepared, and listen to what he says.
This was an interesting class. His quizzes are really hard. I got a C average on them but he grades pretty easy on the essay and presentations. I got a B overall. He likes to talk about himself a lot but I learned a lot in this class.
Of course you're not gonna like him if you don't want to give effort. But he is an amazing professor. He's interesting, passionate, and made me appreciate a subject I dislike. Yes, he is hard but he wants you to learn. So, do that, and you're fine. No slacking!!
Lemme say one thing: HIS CLASSES ARE NOT EASY. If you are expecting to be spoon-fed and have easy, BS midterms and finals, you're in for a RUDE awakening. The closest to a University level class I've taken. Gave me a big fat SLAP to the face as to where I was in terms of college. Tough class, but stick with it. Not impossible to pass.
Great professor/college experience overall. Acts like a major as*hole at first until all the students who aren't serious drop and then becomes really cool. Makes a rather boring subject extremely interesting in the way he teaches. Mid term/final are hard but if you record the lecture and study hard from that, not impossible to pass by any means.
Easy class, tough teacher. He's very knowledgeable, he's just not as helpful. You won't feel at ease in his class. You cannot use the restroom at all during class. It's hard to ask questions about the lecture without him making you look stupid. It's hard to get a hold of him.
Professor is very rude, and encourages students to drop out of college if they receive a bad grade, he would rather see students fail than succeed , he should not be teaching, he degrades people and treats students like scum, unless your his favorite, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! I will be writing to the dean about him.
Morales is AMAZING but if you're looking for an easy class, look elsewhere. His interest is not in being the coolest/easiest professor, but in truly preparing his students for a successful future. Do your work, COME PREPARED TO CLASS, and he'll go out of his way to make your life easy. By far, the best professor I've ever had
This was a very rewarding class! He definitely is tough and you need to show up prepared everyday to go to his class. As long as you participate and stay on top of your readings you should be fine. This was one of the toughest classes that I have ever taken but it helped me get more disciplined. Class gets better at the end of the semester though!
Morales is a tough teacher, but very knowledgeable. His class is lecture oriented but he gives good question time at the end. One of his final lectures blew my mind. Amazing teacher, and a very rewarding class. Thanks Morales for a blissful academic experience and for getting me to rethink my major. See you next semester possibly.
Took this class for a summer class. One midterm, one paper & one final. His class is so interesting, I want to minor in it. But is it easy? No. He expects midterms and finals in green books and as essay version answers. He expects too much and is picky about grading even if I met the requirements, I'd still get a lower grade.
This professor lives, breathes, and works in the POLI SCI world. This is not a class where you will learn nothing! He demands respect and maturity! From time to time you will see Morales speaking about Political issues on local News Stations. This teacher takes education seriously. He drives from SFO everyday to teach. You must earn your A!
Absolutely amazing teacher. His teaching made me want to go into law. I've never tried harder in a class than I did in this one, and I learned a lot. He's a tough professor and he grades tough as well, but this class is so rewarding in the end. Highly recommend.
He's smart. I just wish he wasn't so crude. Not that he's ever treated me poorly, but the way he responds to some students is just flat out rude. Also, it appears that he tries to make himself seem above the rest. Otherwise, I think he's a good professor; he will provide students will valuable information and I guess that's all that matters.
Tough but fair. Respect and intelligence a must have.
If you chose this professor you better be ready to work. His lectures are filled with information and if you ask he will repeat any missed information. The best way to be successful in his courses are to use your classmates. STUDY GROUPS. I have taken 2 of his classes and am enrolled for 2 more. Your effort in the class will determine if you pass.
Professor Morales is a great teacher and has definitely made me question my existence in this society (i guess its a good thing). His tests are difficult but the reviews are helpful, much of it is analyzing. Textbook was mandatory, attendance was not. I wouldnt recommend if you want an easy A.
Hardest teacher I have ever had, demands a better education out of all of us. First half of the semester he will weed out those who aren't there for the right reasons. If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen. After, you'll learn a much softer side to him, "human" like lol. He is PASSIONATE at what he does and all that he is involved in.
Morales is an amazing professor!! He's so passionate about what he does and he does it very well! His classes are not easy but you will learn. He expects a lot from his students and if you want an A be prepared for sleepless nights. I would recommend him if you really want to understand how the world works. Plus he is just gorgeous! Great hair too!
Really cool prof. Very tough for the first couple weeks to scare away woosies, but after that he gives very good lectures that align with midtermfinal and is more easy going. DON'T EVER use phone, go to the bathroom, or show up late. Come on time and participate a lot. Tests are long essay questions so come prepared, having studied your notes.
He was very tough, but I feel he is the first professor I have had that has really prepared me for future college work when I transfer.
I had professor Morales a little while ago and he is, by far, the best professor I have had so far in my college career. His lectures are never boring to listen to and even though it is a fairly difficult class, he is more than willing to help his students be successful and better understand the material. And he is very charming as well :)
I first took him for Intro to Government and did not like him. Sense then i have taken him for other classes and he is absolutely amazing. Great lectures, great guest speakers. very tough Grader. He expects university level work and is preparing you for University. Getting to him he has become a real mentor to me. Great professor.
Amazing and Articulate Professor. If you want to be challenged and actually LEARN then he is GREAT. You will not skate by. This professor is committed to Educational Institutions . He is top notch and expects the best you can do. In return, you will gain KNOWLEDGE and that's why you're supposed to be college.
Great professor. I learned a lot about the US government that I thought I knew but was completely off. He really pushes you to work for your grade. Be careful to not sleep or be on your phone in his class or you will be told to leave. He's willing to help those who want to learn and succeed. He doesn't hand anything out. You gotta work for it
Professor Morales is MY FAVORITE PROFESSOR. I am taking his Policital Science: Global Studies Middle East. He is unbiased, straight forward, and he knows his stuff! He is funny, offers plenty of space for questions, and his lectures are so engaging. You won't be bored in this class!
I'm taking Professor Morales for Political Science: Global Studies Middle East for the summer! His lectures are my WORLD. I live for his class. He is beyond brilliant. He knows HIS Stuff. I'm changing my major to be in more of his classes. He's an amazing professor. I HIGHLY encourage you to take his class! You won't regret it :) + he's HOT
Professor Morales only produces the best students. In every class you take with him you learn so much more than the subject content. You learn analytical skills, to have your own thought opinions and ideas on each subject, and when he assigns a paper it's for your own benefit believe me. Do not fall asleep in his class or disrespect him, bad idea.
I'm very conflicted what to say about this professor. He is very tough and very strict. However, you will learn a lot from him. I would say that it's one of the hardest, yet one of the best classes I've ever taken. It's totally worth it. If you're looking for an A, you're gonna have to work your butt off for it.
Grade is based on midterm, final and paper.... nothing else. He gets easily distracted and goes off on tangents that will not be on test. READ THE BOOK!!!!
Acts like he knows it all. Albeit, he's a bright guy but falls victim to confirmation bias. Only looks at one side of the picture and only provides evidence supporting his point of views and finds data rejecting other points. Essentially claims he is always right. Insults other professors who have more education. Huge ego. Lies about exam material.
Professor Martin tries to intimidate students from the first day. He wants students to fail his class. He is his own biggest fan and will shoot down any opinion you have. If you ask a question he will turn that question into making you look stupid. He is a rude to student. I would not refer him to any student that wanted to pass Political Science.
After taking his class for about a 1-2 months I dropped because he is very hostile toward students. One who tried to use the restroom was told in the middle of lecture to sit down and never get up like that again. He never misses a chance to bad mouth the american education system that he was glad he didn't grow up in. Smart guy, but not kind.
Morales is an amazing professor. You'll hear many opinions about his class. The one thing you need to know about his class is READ!! that is where he gets his test questions from. Is very passionate when he is teaching. Especially foreign policy. Don't be afraid to talk in class he enjoys it when students participate. Take advantage of class time.
He is a tough grader.
If you want to learn and be held accountable chose Martin. If you want to just get an easy A, look for another professor.
Great professor. Highly recommend. Cares deeply about his students.
I absolutely loved this class and Morales!!! Best professor at CRC by far. Tests are tough but if you pay attention to the lecture, read, and study you'll do fine. He really makes you work for your grade. I would definetly take another class with him!
Professor Morales was one of the only professors who prepared me to transfer to a university. I'm about to graduate from a UC, and the class content, style of teaching, and expectations here, matched those of professor Morales. If you want to really learn and to become a strong student, he's a great coach to have. I strongly recommend him.
Morales, you will hear many opinions about him. Either you love him or you hate him. I personally loved him. He is a smart intelligent man and very passionate about what he teaches. At first I was intimidated by him, but as the semester went he grew on me and now his has become my favorite professor on campus. He brought back my love for learning!
If you're looking for an easy class DO NOT TAKE MORALES! His tests are super tough and reading is an absolute MUST! However I found his class to be super interesting and really enjoyed the challenge. He does a very good job of explaining concepts and relating topics to each other.
Includes a Research Paper, Midterm, and a Final. His teaching style is literally just talking and sometimes outlining on the board but prepare to take detailed and copious amounts of notes. Study groups work best to pass at the bare minimum and above. He's not looking for regurgitation; his tests will require you to analyze and connect.
The man knows what he's talking about. Everything that comes out of his mouth should be written and studied. If he tells you to read, read the damn thing, it will be on the exam. My biggest recommendation: UNDERSTAND THE TOPICS, connect them to one another. Knowing the information will not help you. Understand the subject in your own context!!!
This professor is literally the worst professor ever. He purposely makes this easy government class really hard. He does not want you to pass at all. He will make sure you drop the class by the second week. I got a A on almost everything after working so hard on this GE class and still ended up with a B. I would never take him again.
I heard beforehand that Mr. Morales was a difficult teacher but I had no other options on my tight schedule. So I went in expecting the worst and was pleasantly surprised. He is a tough guy, but an amazing teacher. Every lecture was filled with meaningful information and compassion. He is funny in his own way, and does care about his students (as long as you show that you care about the class). Participation is important to him, so be ready to share. There is a lot of reading that is expected to be done every week, and the assignments are long. But there are not a ton of them so it was very doable, even for a busy mom like me. I would definitely take another class with Mr. Morales, if there were another class I needed that he taught.
To be up front, I took Morales years ago. I've since gone on to get my BA and JD. In seven years of college and law school, I never came across a professor as pompous as Martin Morales. Laughably full of himself and gets off on being the handsome "genius" in the eyes of students who have had few truly GOOD professors (ie, don't know better yet).
You have to do the reading to pass the tests because there is a few essay questions that are in the assigned readings, but are never mentioned in class. As long as you skim through the main topics though you will be set. Very level headed and does not push his view points on you, although he is always open for discussions. Great professor:)
Dude teaches an INTRO level government class like its some upper division class at an Ivy League. Awful, stuck up professor who expects the world out of all his students. He will discourage you to drop, you probably should. Out of all my years at college, he is by far the worst prof I have ever had. No one can beat him at that either. DO NOT TAKE.
Currently taking his class he's an amazing professor I learned so much from his class even though you do have to work hard for your grade . He has two midterms, group presentation, a research paper, and a final. And the only reason he acts hardcore in the beginning of the semester is to scare off the lazy people otherwise he is so chill at the end
You want a hard Professor who doesn't give you respect and knows he's better than you? Take him. Hard grader, mandatory attendance, no devices. 1 textbook, 1 research paper, 2 tests. You're graded on Research Paper/Midterm & Final. No multiple choice, all essay tests. He should teach in a UC; not a community college.
All the bad feedback comes from people that were either lazy or butthurt over a prof who ACTUALLY prepares you for college there are 3 midterms (expect to write a lot make sure to take good notes) & a group project with a presentation and final that includes a Mock Model UN that was fun & a great exercise for diplomatic strategy. Also took his gov.
Read the book and take good lecture notes. He's tough at the start, but he's fairly understanding, especially by the last month when most of the students willing to put in the effort are left (dropped from over 40 to 14). Tests are short answer/essay. Don't be afraid to ask questions, especially about exam content.
Take his course(s), allow yourself to be challenged, move on to face more challenges, and appreciate how far it could all take you. His intro to gov't course was indeed challenging, but it provided an extremely valuable experience - exactly what college should provide, in addition to merely "passing." Well deserved 5 stars.
Morales is a fairly difficult teacher and can seem very rough at the beginning, since students who don't study or put in effort frustrate him, but he's a good teacher who knows what he's talking about. Three total exams, not cumulative, all free-write, 2-5 questions. Do the assigned reading, take good lecture notes, study, and you'll be good.
He is a hard ass the first couple weeks. He does this to weed out people who will drop. My class started with 45 students and ended with 15. After the 2nd midterm he chills out. Really cool guy but really hard class. Don't take him if you're looking for an A. Also you will fail the first midterm guaranteed but you can still get an A in the class.
You just have to make it through the first midterm and you're solid. Don't be intimidated and don't drop! I bombed the first test, like 36%, but got a 98% on the next. Just take notes from the book and in lecture and you're good. I ended up really liking Morales and he was definitely one of the best professors I have.
Isn't respectful. High expectations. Treats course like a University course. Don't come in late. Participate. Extremely harsh and expects you to understand everything at a deep level. Only take this course to be challenged to the extreme.
Hardest Professor I have ever had! He talks so fast that its very hard to take good notes. He expects you to memorize everything. His tests are only essays. He can ask you anything on the test, so he expects you to know every single word he has taught you. He is not a good teacher at all! if you want to live a happy life then PLEASE don't take him!
I took his 6 week summer class. Hardest class I have ever taken. I put in 2-3 hours per night studying on top of reading and still barely passed with a C. You absolutely will not pass if you don't take good notes. You must also read as much as you can. On the tests, elaborate with as much detail as possible. Utilize the full time during the test.
Tough cookie
By far the best professor on campus. He truly cares for his students. You need to do all readings to pass his test. If you read the assigned reading everything else becomes fairly easy.
He is a really funny guy, his personality shines through in all of his lectures which makes every class engaging. He's available & helpful with office hours. The content isn't necessarily hard, but you have to work for it, & that deters many students who come in with low expectations. An A+ is such an accomplishment from him, who needs the degree?
Really tried to punish students for being unprepared and not doing their work and tends to scare away a lot of people from his class, but you can tell that he's doing it because he cares. Make sure to do the reading, and make sure to have everything ready for the deadlines!
Prof. Morales was the toughest professor I have had the pleasure of learning from at CRC. He is very strict, but it is because he expects nothing but the best from his students. If you are looking for an easy A, pick another professor. If you are looking to really learn and challenge yourself, then Prof. Morales is the professor for you.
Devil incarnate, will suck the life out of you and give you nightmares for the rest of your life. I can never look at Argentina the same way again. 10/10 would take again great guy.
he is very blunt! Which is great, but he overdoes everything especially for a community college. He overreacts and has overly high standards that make it almost impossible to pass. Even though I failed my first midterm I'm still determined to stay and I know I can still get a B in the class so not to worried. He is very negative! Says we are stupid
This one class is probably going to ruin my future. He is unnecessarily mean and tough. He treats everyone like their idiots and he is EXTREMELY partial. Save yourself don't take him. He expects his midterms to be 15+ pages long with less than a week to write it. This whole class is so unfair and messed up.
let me put it this way: his GE government class absolutely sucked all life and positivity from me. I left that class a cynical, empty shell of a human. That being said, I then proceeded to sign up for one of his ELECTIVES that was outside my major. I didn't even need to credits, I already had enough to transfer! Why? Because he's just that good.
He is the hardest professor I have ever taken so far but not gonna lie, I ended up liking his class at the end of the semester. You'll get challenged in the first term but once you passed until midterm, you're good. He is strict and talk really fast, and doesn't want phone and late attendance in class but he is also nice once you get to know him.
I actually enjoyed the class and got a lot out of it but for the most part , I also had to do my own research in order to fully understand the topic. My class' midterm was a MC but he had told us that in his other class, only two people passed his midterm because their was essay questions. Be on top of your reading and lecture and you'll do fine
Unless you're a POLS major, I wouldn't recommend taking his class. He's unnecessarily degrading if you don't know who somebody is/if you don't watch the news 24/7. He's passionate about the subject, but expects everyone to be too. Which is frustrating when you just want to learn & not feel out of place. Think twice about taking if you stress easily
Martin Morales is an incredible teacher who is definitely passionate and knowledgeable about the subject and encourages you to pay attention to the world today. That being said this was the hardest professor Ive ever had. I wrote two paragraphs per short answer (total of 5 qs) for the midterm and received a 0 on the entire test. I dropped out.
Took his class over the summer for 6 weeks and was one of the hardest classes I have ever taken considering that this is a GE course. He is very strict about reading your materials before class and demands participation during class. Would not recommend unless he is your last option.
Professor Morales definitely was a challenge. He seems very scary at first but he really isn't. He honestly scares students to make sure that he knows who he's working with. He is a really good professor because he makes you study hard and teaches you things you've never learned. If you're looking for an easy A with him, then he is NOT for you.
extremely hard teacher. 36/40 people failed the 1st test. expects you to read everything and know it before its due so you can understand his lecture. would recommend for challenging and/or new experience but not if youre trying to pass with an easy a. however is very passionate about his work and gives lots of things that most profs wont tell you
Dont take this class unless youre a POLSCI major. Im not joking. He gave an exam and 94% of the class failed. He expects students to be at a law-school level and extra-credit wont help you at all; unless you pass his class. Hes a respectable person but a brutal professor. Again, dont take him unless youre majoring in POLISCI.
I had the pleasure of taking Professor Morales a few years back. He was by far the toughest professor Of my college career. After my first class with him I voluntarily took 3 more, the more you take with him the better he gets. It is because of Professor Morales that I now have a double BA from Sac State in Government & Political Philosophy.
Politics wasn't my major, but I passed his class because I put a lot effort. I failed the first two tests, but didn't quit and after that, I triple the extra effort to succeed. I liked his class because he has a strong opinion and takes teaching seriously. Students who continue in his class will learn outside of the box. Excellent professor.
Professor Morales is a great professor! He seems intimidating and is somewhat cynical regarding students who've never had him before, but it's all good. There are no "tests," per se, just 3 midterms, which are papers. Lectures are amazing, he speaks kind of briskly and ppts and writing on the whiteboard are sparse, so write fast and listen closely!
Professor Morales is an amazing person. He is a tough person, and will embarrass you if you don't know the material. However, his lectures really come to life and it really puts life into perspective and makes you realize so many things that happen around the world. He likes to crack jokes and always reacts positively if you crack a joke at him.
Hes sort of like if Gordon Ramsey stopped cooking to become a political science professor. He knows what he wants and does what he can to get the best out of his students. pretty fun and engaging. Would take again
University style teacher. If you like political science/are majoring in political science, this professor is your best bet for making it. If you are just trying to ease through a GE class, this is NOT the professor for you. He will hold you accountable for everything. Is this bad? Not if you are genuinely trying to learn the field.
This is not your average GE course you can skate on by in. The class itself is not hard but his expectations are. He is very arrogant and expects he students to be very passionate about Politics. The lectures are sloppy with no substances from the textbook. There are 3 tests, 1 presentation, and a 15 pg research paper... YEAH, NO THANKS!! AVOID!
Extremely tough professor that will change the way you look at everything. Especially Argentina. He has 3 exams (including a final) that are all long answer form. Don't expect multiple choice. His lectures are very intriguing and would be the only reason why I didn't drop by the deadline. He does care about how well you do and will help if asked.
I would not recommend this Professor to anyone who is just taking POLS in order to transfer. Find another instructor who is less intense and understands that they are teaching at a community college not Law School.
Fabulous professor. He may seem overbearing to a lot of students but deep down he's a genuine and thoughtful professor that wants to see his students grow academically and intellectually. Put in the effort and he will reciprocate that with helping you succeed in his class. Highly recommend. Show up, take notes, ask questions and you'll do great!
If you're not willing to put in the work for your grade, don't bother. Morales is by far the hardest teacher I've ever had but receiving an A in his class made it that much more rewarding. He doesn't give out homework, you just have to read A LOT. There's 3 midterms and a research paper. It was hard throughout but that much rewarding as well.
Look. If you cannot read and write at a college level, do not take any of his classes. If you do not like to read and write, do not take any of his classes. Professor Morales has single-handedly improved my ability to read, write, and comprehend in both his classes and others. Take this professor if you are looking to not only learn, but improve.
He is not the person to take if you are just taking this class as a GE. He is VERY VERY DISCOURAGING to his students. Often times, he would send emails like, "the drop with a W deadline is etc etc so if you wish to drop then you can other face the prospects of failing the class." I HAVE NEVER EVER HAD A PROFESSOR SEND THIS TYPE OF EMAIL!!!!!!!!
He's passionate about his subject and wants YOU to be, too. He comes off like an arrogant jerk at the start (I bet it's to weed out the slackers); but by the end, he was actually a chill professor who genuinely cares about his students and their success. Hardest class I've ever taken, 10/10 would take again. Ask questions! Discuss! Participate!
Harsh, condescending, expects perfection, expects you to know everything about a subject. He thinks he is teaching law school students. He is very passionate and loves the subject, but expects you to love it just as much. If you want to do anything in politics/law, he is amazing and I would highly recommend. Everyone else should avoid at all costs.
This professor is something else, AVOID AT ALL COST! Your college career will thank you later for it!!
Read,Read, and Read. This teacher is by far the most hardest teacher's I have ever seen.
Professor Morales is a cool guy. If I LOVED political science I probably would have stuck with the course. It was really demanding and his expectations were the highest I've seen from any professor in the LRCC. He can be harsh and condescending to people who don't do their work. He will either make you love Poli Sci or hate it. I chose to run.
Do not let the average "rate my professor" rating fool you! He will make your life a living hell and you will hate yourself for not taking this review serious. AVOID AT ALL COST!!
didnt know what to expect based on other people's ratings but the class wasn't bad at all. as long as you take good notes and pay attention you'll be fine. grade is based off 3 essays. the lectures are interesting, I learned a lot.
This man wanted students to participate, but mostly students were afraid to even raise their hands because of his intimidating characteristic. I mean he has passion for the subject, but he needs to understand that not every student wants to be in a Political Science major.
People want an easy-A. Marty wont provide that, what he will provide is a world class education, concern for the subject, and his absolute 100% attention to your success. Sincerely, -a masters student from the 18th and 1st ranked schools for Politics in the world.
TAKE HIM. He seemed more strict towards the beginning but he got to be an awesome professor as time went on. He genuinely cares about his job and it reflects in how he works us. He's a lot of fun to talk with after class and is willing to work with you if something goes wrong. He's pretty hard on you, only because he cares. Morales is a great pick!
PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF FROM THIS HEADACHE OF A CLASS AND AVIOD THIS TEACHER! His lectures are very underwhelming and he does the bare minimal as a Professor. He relies more on the student interactions and participation than actually teaching!! 9/10 students would agree this GE class is not worth the effort just to transfer out of CRC!!
This class was one of the worst learning experiences I've had at any institution. The work's not hard, he's just disrespectful. He will basically mock you for not having knowledge before he helps you gain any. It's off putting. I've never seen so many drop a class. To be clear, I took this class in class so I cannot speak to the online experience.
Absolutely the worst professor ever. Was rude at the first meeting of Spring 2021. Has no table manners.
He tells kids that they are not smart and shouldnt be going to community college and is just overall not a good teacher
I dropped his class during Spring 2020 semester, the professor was very arrogant and condescending. With the stress of a pandemic - his attitude and arrogance was not something I was willing to handle. The class and work load is very manageable and I am a straight A student. It is really sad that such a brilliant minded person is a waste at CRC.
One of my favorite professors I've ever taken a class from at CRC. He's harsh but understandably so. He has high standards for assignments but no actual homework aside from readings when there's no class. He comes off rude but he's honestly not, don't act like you know more than him and you'll enjoy his class. I'd take more classes from him.
I took his class in Spring 2021, but I dropped. He grades really harshly. There were points in the semester where we did not attend class for weeks a time, but was assigned a group project, then a midterm, and an outline for a paper. He also is super one sided and does not listen to your opinion if he does not agree. Would not recommend taking.
He is a very tough grader.
our first midterm- more than half of the class got an F. should have been the first red flag. not only can he be rude, but he does NOT teach. he talks about current events and then assigns you to read 30 pages after each class. do not take his class unless you are majoring in polisci
He was not a great motivator. He started my class of with saying we all knew nothing and he was going to correctly teach what our past education failed to teach. He never really taught and assignment a lot of reading. I personally dropped the class due to his expression of higher power over students which made me feel like I wasnt a student.
This man is by far the best professor I've ever met. Super invested in his political science(he will tell you to do International Relations) majors. Put the work into the class and you will reap the benefits. Our class had a huge group chat and did discord meetings to work on assignments together. Teamwork is the best way to get through his course!
From my personal experience in the class, I felt like it got really detrimental. I suffered from depression, and often times I got kicked out of his office because he knew that I was doing well in the class. But passing the class got my depression a lot worse. So if are in a situation where your mental health is at stake, take care of yourself.
Wow, this was a hard class. He expects extremely highly of you. ONLY take this class if you are a Political Science major and you are very passionate about it. He will make you work like hell. He is a very, very good professor, but as I said, he expects a lot of you.
very harsh person. makes a good joke like once a week usually at someones expense. midterms and papers made me cry every single time. easily the hardest class ive ever taken.
Homework pops up out of nowhere for asynchronous courses. Assignments are due at 6pm which is very inconvenient. Don't take unless you need to.
Took Prof. Morales for 301 Fall 2019, only regret I have is that I didn't take more of his classes. The man brings a level of knowledge and depth of expertise to the subject that I've yet to see replicated at the UC level. He's a master of his craft, and will inspire you to succeed as he did for me. If you ever read this Prof., simply, thank you.
DONT TAKE HIS CLASS! He has EXTREMELY high expectations, he falls behind in syllabus and gives out his assignments late. When emailing questions him questions about his assignments the response is passive aggressive.
Took a couple courses on foreign policy and mid eastern politics. Outstanding instructor and analysis of the material. Wkly reading. Punctuality/participation affect success. Instructor is concise, interesting, not hard if you give average-low effort. Not a do-nothing course and plenty of opportunities to be offended, if that's what you're into.
I would give this professor a 2.7/5 His honesty may/may not be something you appreciate. many critics didn't grow up with tough love and it shows, if you are majoring in political science i'd say take him. If this is just for GE and then don't waste your time. he can be unnecessarily rude at times, and rightfully blunt at others, your choice.
Don't take a single class from him As an abuse victim, he can be very emotionally abusive towards his students. I had to be put on medications due to his wrath. Avoid him at all cost. He is abusive towards his students.
Not tech-savy. Rubrics are not provided, cannot rely on the canvas calendar for convenience despite taking online classes for this reason. 3 assignments in span of 3 months. a set of flashcards every 2 weeks + unclear chapter readings. Do not take this class if you want a teacher that utilizes canvas to help students. Don't waste your money.
This class can be tough, but if you put in the effort, you'll learn a lot. The professor can be direct, but engaging with the material and supporting each other through study groups and tools like unstuckstudy ai make it manageable.
Mr. Morales was an amazing professor. As a dual enrollment student he was very understanding and always answered my many emails no matter when I sent it or what it was about. This class was very fun and his lectures were very interesting to listen to even though it was an online class. I will be taking more classes taught by him!
This man is abusive
After having this professor for my political science class, I couldn't believe I had to go through his abusive teaching methods. Not only failing another class because of it, but I had to be in therapy and got put on medication because of it. This man is outright abusive toward students, and that shouldn't be tolerated at all. Don't take him,
Really harsh in general, and not so good when it comes to giving info about class. Gotten kicked out of his office because I was doing well, but he doesn't get what "fine" means. He doesn't see if students are going through a mental crisis (like what I have), and later have you suffer from it. If you consider taking him, prepare for therapy.
Being in his class in general was the roughest experience in life. Absolutely abusive and obnoxious person to be around as a teacher, lectures lead to nowhere, and being the department chair to abuse his power is wrong. Prides more on expelling students, but that's straight up abuse. He should reconsider everything he done.
On the first exam, only 2 people got an A and half of the classed failed...followed by most others getting a D. There's clear favoritism during his lectures. And he may mention that lectures/notes are optional but they're not. Very self-conceited individual. Do not take even if this is the only class available, there's a reason why!!
Having a teacher that is willing to teach is one thing, but having one that plays favorites on students and abuse everyone else is the other. This man plays favorites, and abuse others. As an person with a learning disability and a victim of abuse, I want to say that what he does is not right. Be careful if you have him, but report him if you can.
Very disrespectful as a person, only focus on those who are understanding the course and neglect the others. As a victim of his abusive teaching practices, I had ended up suffering from mental issues after. He should seriously not be a teacher or the department chair. He should be fired.
Whenever he tells a student "you're fine", in reality he is lying to you. I have been abused (emotionally) by him, and got put on anti-depressants because of it. Going through his antics is bad, and his teaching style can be nothing but torture. Avoid him at all cost, and he needs to be out of the school.
When will this professor get fired?
Being in a political science class that was taught by him was rough, and feels like he was using his power as an instructor to abuse his students. I felt that his approach to students is more keen to abuse instead of teaching. Though readings, exams, and the research paper was rough, but his abusive teaching style is not tolerable. Don't take him.
My class was composed of students from his former classes so it was more tight-knit and everybody either knew each other or were comfortable to speak. Coursework was tough but doable, though he expects roughly 10 pages for midterms alone. It's not hard for the most part; he gives comparable lectures to UC-level at a CC.
Believe all the terrible things you read about this professor. He is very self centered, abrasive, and arrogant. Extremely tough grader and barely gives out assignments. Also, he dates all of his TAs! He's in his 50s/60s and they are usually pretty, young, and follow him around like a puppy. Go figure.
From my experience in his class, he was very abusive towards students that try their best. From my experience in his office hours, he gaslighted me a lot and made me stay instead of dropping the course. As an abuse victim of his, I have been on medication after being in his class. But he needs to be removed from the school for everything he does.
I still don't get why he is abusive towards his student, and still hired at this school. When will he be removed from the school because he is unfit for teaching at a school in general.
His style of teaching is a form of abuse, and it should not be tolerated towards anyone. If you are an abuse victim of his, speak your voices.
Due to being taught by him, I was put on antidepressants for a good part of my 20's. His abusive power can really harm an individual like myself (who delt with depression, and later gotten worse). His style of teaching is never tolerable in this school, and he should be able to understand, or be removed from the school urgently. Avoid him.
Very unreasonable grader. Even if you follow the given example he will find a way to give you a 70%. On a midterm he gave no example or said how long it should be but even when I wrote a really good amount and knew what I was taking about, he failed me. A lot of people say it's abusive teaching and I would strongly agree. Time and money wasted.
His classes are extremely lecture heavy. Doesn't really post anything on Canvas, makes you do everything on paper. Majority of the class failed the midterm. His teaching style didn't really help me and I felt uncomfortable in his class.
Midterm = Abuse Teaching style = Abuse Office hour experience = Abuse Threating students to expel them as a wake up call = Abuse Research paper setting = Abuse As a person overall = Abusive This man should never be near students or a school if he is treating people like this.
From being in his class, and going through mental crisis because of it, everything he did was not great as a teacher. Abusing students is not good, and can have students more scared to go to school. He needs to understand what he does is wrong (or turn himself in).
He is the worst professor I've ever had. Just stepping into his classroom made me anxious. He only has 4 grades overall (2 midterms, final, research paper). He chooses favorites and will fail you if he doesn't like you. He abuses and degrades his students every class period. At this point, he enjoys seeing his students fail.
I have to say, this person is definitely detrimental for your academic experience at the school. Why would he even be here in the first place. His abusive teachings, kicking people out for the smallest things, what is wrong with him? He should be removed from the school and not us.
This professor is by far the hardest grader I ever had. He also kind of slaps you in the face with his words. He tends to be little you if you do not understand something. I would never recommend this professor to even my worst enemy honestly.
.72 hours of listening on first slideshow of the week.
He's by far one of them most abusive professor I have ever had. No wonder why so many people drop his class. Why would he be a teacher at the school if he is just going to abuse them. He should be removed from the school and not us.
Professor Morales is an extremely harsh, abrasive, and unreasonable professor. He doesn't provide students any direction of what he's looking for regarding assignments. He provided zero instructions for the midterm, still I did my very best work, yet he graded the paper an F with no explanation. Believe all the reviews you see about him on here!!!
SERIOUSLY, WHEN WILL HE GET FIRED????
I don't know if he reads any of these reviews, but he needs to know that abusing his students is never the answer, and there will be severe repercussion from it. He needs to leave, or people can sue him for it.
This man actually abused me.
HORRIBLE PROFESSOR! DONT TAKE CLASS
Great professor. He has high standards (20 page midterms, no technology, MANDATORY attendance, but it's evident he really cares about his students. It sets you up for success in the future. My advice would be to plan your time accordingly to the assignments.
