Kind of funny, but tries really hard. Easy course, and he usually gets a few good jokes in each class
Makes things quite easy to understand. Teaches Psychology like he likes it. Has a lot of jokes. Unfortunately listens to the idiots in the class who think he is "going too fast" (as he follows along on power point that is already available -
Good Prof. Easy to understand, funny guy.
Good teacher. Pretty straightforward class, and all the info is on the internet which makes the class even easier. Nice guy.
Great prof, great papers which were easy to write. And really nice!
Nice guy but terrible teacher. It's like he wants to be somewhere else. Exams are easy - just read the text.
i don;t know
Absolutely boring - had extreme difficulty making myself go to class. Relatively easy tests, all multiple choice; likes to throw in strange questions.
NICE VAN!!!!
This was a horrible class and I started to attend less and less. It was boring and all he talked about was his dissertation. He did not use any interesting teaching methods. It was pretty easy, midterm, paper and a final. The paper was a lot of work but he marked easy.
boring! Don't go to class, all out of the text book, except the few questions he gives away free in class, (maybe 2) but those 2 are not worth going to class for
It's all about the van! great guy!
such a horribly boring class...all he does is read the slides. tests can be tricky too
What a terrible prof! Makes it clear that he doesn't care about anything, and talks about how he wants a job at another University... Don't bother going to talk to him, it won't make any difference.
This was my most boring class. The prof just reads off his slides (you have printed notes in front of you anyway)...you dont have to pay attention because the material that is on the exam is all in the textbook (in a little corner of the page) and rarely in class notes. He is definetly more interested in racing his van than in teaching a class.
Awful class, but Rempel knows it and makes the most of the material. His exams and assignments are super easy, don't even open your text. I wouldn't recommend taking this class unless you are a psych major.
easy prof, taught right out of the text book, all multiple choice
This prof is horrible! All he does is read out of the text book...if you learn by just reading this is the class for you, but if you're like me and do better when you're given examples aside from the text, then you don't want Rempel!!! His tests don't make any sense. If you want to survive his material, just stay home and read the text!!
Found his teaching style EXCELLENT. He thouroughly explained things, and instead of just reading off the slides, he actually went into detail and gave great examples. He even pointed out things that he said people who did not attend class, would miss on the exam... Loved it.
Horribly boring. He reads off the slides and never gives examples, and if he does they are horrible. Don't go to class, read your text and the printed notes and youll do good.
Nice guy! Took uniteresting material and made it more personally relevant by using examples from his own personal experiences. Material in text is dry and hard to get through but this was the easiest 3 credits i have ever received.
Martin is an interesting teacher. He uses various examples to explain topics ( personal stories, outside resources, etc) This class can be easy or hard. Weekly readings and discussions are a great grade booster and he is active with both the small groups and the class in discussing. Attend class, speak up and read ! Good luck! Its interesting
His tests are straight from the text book he assigns, as long as you do the readings the class is simple. Plus there is room to bonus up to 5% on your final mark. Boring proffessor but an easy average booster.
Doesn't understand characteristics of good writing. Very superficially helpful, but when it comes down to it.. he's not helpful at all.
Great prof. Very understated and dry sense of humor. He covers a lot in class (jokes about carpal tunnel syndrome) and is clear in his expectations. Fair marker.
This guy is straight useless. He didn't even make the slides that he reads off to teach the class; you can tell because sometimes even he is surprised by the contents. I used to take a tally every class of the questions he simply couldn't answer... and it averaged around "all". You might as well burn your money and print a degree.
Possibly my best prof thus far, though this rating might just be attributed to the fact that most of my other profs really suck. He keeps you engaged with short, concise, and to-the-point stuff. He mainly just reads from the slides and the textbook, so ya dont really have to be there unless you have nothing else to do.. or can't understand the stuf
Awesome prof. Keeps his lectures pretty interesting with humor (he's acually pretty funny at times) and real life examples. He takes personal experiences and uses them as examples to help clarify things, and he also gives you the exact notes he uses to make jot notes on and stuff. I would take many many more classes from him.
He is a great prof, all notes are online and he reads right off of them, textbook is used although he does not hound at you to read it, be prepared with it for midterms and finals! he is enthusiastic! DONT HAVE YOUR PHONE ON IN CLASS HE WILL ANSWER IT!!
He isn't very enthusiastic about teaching...
It is very boring in class, and he is a loser.
Some classes the professor will not be too enthusiastic while teaching. He can be slightly monotone, and boring. When he is teaching about something that interests him, he has more enthusiasm. He seems to be a nice professor but only uses one teaching method. There is little to no student interaction during class. It is a fairly easy course.

Easy class. Rempel is somewhat boring at times, but if you take his night class, it can be pretty good... he shows a 30 min video, gives a 15min break, and takes up the last half hour doing practice MC questions (which are actually fun). Total teaching time=45mins!! Tests are straight from the book and slides... take this class, get a good grade!
So boring. Ended up not going to class. Notes DIRECTLY from text. Then reads notes word for word. Monotone. No enthusiasm. Almost like he does not want to be there. If you study, midterms have been easy so far.
Hmmm well he generally seems a bit bored teaching the class. Doesn't really speak in a sensical way; just reads off his powerpoint slides in a disjointed sort of way. Relies WAY too heavily on powerpoints. I liked the videos and anecdotes and stuff, though.
Terrible class. Really lame content and the textbook is horrible. It costs 120 bucks and has a ton of spelling mistakes. Rempel is a nice guy and a fairly good instructor but the class did not interest me at all.
dont need to go to class. just read the text and know all the little details and you can get a 95 easy.
This class is extremely boring. Only take it if you have to. Prof Rempel is funny at times but also just reads off of the power point slides that are provided for you online. If you don't shop up for class you can still get a pretty easy mark as long as you look over the text and do the psych lab online
Rempel is a good prof. He knows the material, and although he follows a powerpoint presentation that is available online, complementary notes that he gives supplement the material well. If you are picking a 200 level course or higher, he is a great prof. Note to all 1st year psych students: All first year psych classes are boring and easy.
Great Prof
Exams are pretty easy. Fairly interesting.
Material isn't thrilling, but professor tries so hard to make it interesting. He's a really nice guy, and the tests are fairly easy if you know the material. Didn't look at the textbook once, all powerpoint was online, and a little information was added in class, but mostly just explanations. If you know the info, you'll be fine.
It is a first year psych course, so it is obviously going to be very very broad and boring. Dr. Rempel doesn't really do much to help that. Notes are taken direct from text, classes are taught directly from notes. Going to class is 100% pointless. I went to 6 total, opened the textbook approx 0 times, and have a 70. Extremely easy course.
I thought he was great. Exams are very fair and predictable. Always let class out on time but was religiously 10 minutes late. Had notes posted before class so it was easy just to add a few things to them here or there. I retained a lot of information, got a pretty good mark, and didn't really put that much effort in. Highly recommended.
Took this Community Psych in the summer from him... It was A LOT of work. He's an incredibly nice guy, but, the work load was crazy! Probably partly because it was done in a span of 3 weeks, but.. possibly a little too much work for three week!
This course is extremely easy, just read the textbook and you'll do fine. Or just look at the powerpoint notes and you'll do fine as well since they're practically identical. You don't have to show up to class to get a good mark. Although the content can be super boring, some parts were actually interesting. I definitely recommend this prof.
Funny, interesting and very approachable. He made the class as interesting as possible. Makes great power point notes - yes, you don't have to buy the text book but it really helps.
He tries to keep something boring somewhat interesting. He's not uptight and is approachable if you have any questions. He posts the notes on PAWS so thats good and read the textbook and you'll do good.
Super easy class. You don't even need to attend class. Read the textbook carefully and learn the definitions. Plus you might just learn something.
Awesome Prof,His tests are very fair and from the textbook and slides.Great Class.
Not super, not bad. 80 minutes really dragged in this class, but he was sometimes funny too. Tests were all mc but there were quite a few "applied" questions that were challenging. The assignments were fun.
definately tied for my favorite proff if you sit up front you get 10x the exerience an nevr be afraid to ask him anything at all after class totally made me reconsider my career path as a teacher and go for clinical psych
funny, helpfull, and knows his stuff, highly recommend this class!!!!! weekly online tests 3 midterms (all year class) he is always willing to help. Great prof.
His lectures were mainly interesting, although 80 min really sucked some times. Tests are MC but impossible unless you know the text from front to back. He pretty much reads word for word straight from the txt so if you follow along in the text after class you should be fine. Shows some cool videos though. each midterm is about 4 chapters
It's been a few years since I've been in one of his classes but this prof is the reason I chose psychology as my major. He's engaging, interesting and it's obvious he really cares about what he's talking about. I tell every prospective first year arts student to take his psych 110 class.
Really easy to understand and good at teaching. HIs tests are really hard though. Need to know the material well! Read the text!! Gives 5% bonus for psych experiments and 10% for mypsychlab online chapter tests which is an easy 10%
Dr. Rempel is a great prof. His tests are extremely fair in that if you attend class, take notes, and read the textbook you will be fine. Very engaged in his classes and even adds a bit of humor to his lectures which helps! One of my favorite psychology profs at the U of S!
By taking his introductory psychology class, you are essentially paying upwards of $600 for the textbook and nothing else. That is all you need to pass this class. He gets a good rating from me only because he has a quirky and humorous personality. If you want to be mildly entertained for an hour or so, attend one of his lectures.
He lectures straight from the textbook, and his assignments are generic ones pulled off the internet. However, it's an easy class and a good intro to social psych if it's an area which interests you.
Makes the class as interesting as possible. Good sense of humour. Powerpoints straight from the textbook, so no surprises on the tests. Easy online assignments worth 10% and a bonus 5% for participating in 5 easy 30 minute research experiments. Overall, a good prof; I would recommend him.
Teaches right out of the textbook, a good amount of writing assignments and essays in the class but good practice for learning APA style and i found that it wasn't hard to get a good mark on them. Very understanding prof and tries to keep things fun and interesting. A+ Rempel!
Every things straight out of the text book..no need to attend class.. i did for the first half and not for the second and my mark was the same regardless. From what i heard there's lots of different psych profs out there.. some alot easier than Rempel.. choose wisely
I loved his class. He is very smart, funny and interesting. Even though I loved his class I did bad in it. His finals always got me! There are fair- I just had a bad luck of the draw and focused more on the things that weren't on the test. I think the class would be even better if it was smaller (mine had 360+)
not a bad prof. Not neccessary to attend class tests/lectures were basically the textbook. I stopped attending about after the 2nd midterm and my marks improved. Gives 5% bonus for volunteering for grad studies.
He's so funny and makes the class worth attending. Teaches right from the text book but his exams are tough as nails. Study hard folks but you will hardly be bored in class. Not overly helpful, he mostly leaves it to the TAs in the class. But better to talk to in person than email.
I had him for both 100 lvl and 200 lvl. Although he teaches straight from the textbook, his upper year classes include a lot of discussion on the topics covered and make you think about what you are learning. He knows his material. He has a good sense of humor and is very understanding, especially if you put in the effort. Don't judge him on 110.
Class was always interesting, so I never felt like skipping. He has a great sense of humour, always kept things interesting, told lots of stores and showed lots of videos. Very content-heavy course, so the exams were more difficult, but I would take another class from him in a heartbeat! Take his class, by far my favourite prof!
Nice and entertaining person but an awful prof! He reads straight off the text book so attending class is pointless. He's very nice and approachable after class but won't actually help. Then he makes exams tough as nails! I actually heard him complain to a TA that the department made him raise grades on a midterm even though the average was 57!
No point in going to class, he reads everything straight from the textbook. Exams are extremely hard. Answers his cellphone during class lectures, not just once, happened on many occasions.
Read straight from the text, so there was no point in coming to class. His midterms were extremely hard. Some questions in the exams had nothing to do with what we were being taught. I won't want him as a prof again
He reads straight from the textbook, no point in attending his class. His midterms/final were extremely tough and the questions were very irrelevant to what we learned and what was in the textbook. Would NOT recommend him, the class average was very low.
An entertaining instructor, but not very engaging. He would go the entire 80 minute class and never once look at us. His notes are somewhat useful, unfortunately most of the exam questions pertained to case studies we had never discussed. Class average was a 52 for both midterms. He does give the option for 3% bonus marks though. That was nice.
He is a nice and funny prof. Read the text and compare to his powerpoints. Do not need to show up to class. But he uses good examples in his teaching. He directs a lot of his questions to his T.A's. His exams are hard, but he has other ways to make your mark go up including 3 bonus marks.
It seemed like he was bored most of the time and did not like teaching first year classes. He could be funny and entertaining at times. Exams are extremely difficult and it's hard to know what will be emphasized on them. You do get 10% for doing online quizzes and can earn up to 3% bonus which brought up my mark.
Great prof! Very amusing. Interesting class as well. You had to go to class to type the power points he provided which were basically a shortened version of the text book. I would recommend this class.
I went to almost every class. You soon realize it's really not necessary to attend class because he reads pretty much straight out of the textbook and his powerpoints are shortened versions of the text. He's a nice guy though and will help you if needed. As long as you read the textbook you'll be fine!
Here's the quick version: lectures from summaries of the text, difficult tests/exams based on nothing from the lectures, very vague Multiple Choice questions from obscure corners of the text, difficult with very little time to actually talk to a prof with a class size of literally 400 students.
I really enjoy having Dr. Rempel as a professor. He keeps class interesting, as he's humorous and shows good videos. I barely went to any psychology lectures last term (different prof), but now I attend nearly all of them. Highly recommended.
He is an awful teacher. I am a 90s student in university, but with his uninteresting teaching methods and impossible tests, your sure to not get a great mark. He is a very bad teacher.
Mark boost! Seems like a genuinely nice guy. Class was 3 midterms and a final, all multiple choice. READ THE TEXT, ALL CHAPTERS COVERED. Almost all q's come from it, make sure you memorize stats, material is not boring/confusing, practice on mypsychlab with the terms. A few tough Qs but 100s are possible. 3% bonus for journals/research partic.
Horrible teacher. Never wanted to go to class EVER. I will never take another class with him. SO boring, only follows textbook word by word. Test were not even related to the covered material. Just plain bad.
Martin is a great prof! Very entertaining and his lectures were very informative. He is humorous and always answers any questions. Very knowledgeable in his field and is clear about his teachings! His class is hard for those who don't put time into studying. I would recommend him to anyone for psych 120 and 121!
I am a engineering student taking this as open elective. This course is horrible for marks even in summer term.Avoid it if u can !
Lectures straight from textbook. Doesn't care about getting to know students, even in a summer class. Easy multiple choice tests straight from material. Boring lectures. Seems disengaged and sometimes uninformed on the topics he is teaching. I would rate the class 6/10.
Overall, a good prof. He's funny and informative. Keeps lectures interesting. However, his tests do not match his lectures. You must study the text.
His tests are nothing about what you would think they would be like. He makes his tests tricky and words them confusing so you have to guess what one he would pick not the one that was right. He can be funny but at the same time he tends to stutter and gets off topic very often. Some of the lectures are fun and interesting but not very often.
He read straight from the textbook causing very long and boring lectures. Interrupted the class by answering texts and phone calls in class. Slides were brief compared to what he expected on the exams.
Martin is really ideal for first year students. Show up, listen, and study like expected and get good grades. Doesn't baby you or hold your hand, good syllabus and clear lectures. Really outlines what you need to know, his goal is to prepare you for the final. Is aware of his students, even in 100+ classes. Took Psy120 and he recognized me in 121.
I really disliked Dr. Rempel as a prof. I find it hard to force myself to go to class as his lectures bore me and he gets off topic very easily. He words the questions on his tests in a confusing way, making tests hard. Although I studied a lot and felt I knew the material before the test my marks weren't very high. Wouldn't take a class from him.
Lectures drag on forever and were hard to pay attention to. Reading the textbook is very important for this class, but if you are able to memorize well you can expect to get 80+ on the course. I finished 121 with a 92% and am currently sitting at an 86% in 120. It isn't mandatory to go to class, as you can get all the info from the slides and text.
Prof is funny and helpful but found the class to be more along the line of a sociology class . Text used is American so some of the material did not really relate to Canada. Lectures are straight from the text but be prepared to read it as exams feature some questions that he does not cover in the material in class. TA grades papers hard.
Super good prof, he makes his lectures actually interesting by adding personal experience and is very funny.
You can tell Rempel is interested in his subject area and tries to make the lectures interesting. It is pointless to attend his classes as he reads right from the slides and the text book. His midterms were pretty difficult, and I suggest you study right from the text book. His final was easier then his midterms. Psych sure isn't easy with him.
Rempel is like the best Teacher, I ever had. Doesn't mean it's easy with him, but his explenation and stuff is just great. Really like him!
Martin is an down to earth person. He is passionate about his students. His lectures are clear and intersting. He is the best first year psychology instructor. very possible to get +85 in this class if you put work in it.
Rempel is a very good prof. All his notes are directly from the textbook so you don't really need to attend the class but know the textbook thoroughly. I found him and entertaining lecturer and he's even funny sometimes. Would recommend and take from him again.
Great guy- his notes are clear and to the point but you'll wanna go to the lectures too because his examples are very helpful. he gives you good answers if u ask after class. tests are well done and fair, no stress. he's pretty funny and genuine too. i'd be happy to have this prof again!
He taught concepts clearly and reinforced them with examples that we as students can relate to. He also supplemented lectures with interesting videos about studies and/or people with disorders.
I never looked forward to Rempel's lectures and he didn't make things interesting as he often read off the slide that was in front of me or straight from the textbook. Midterms were tough - no matter how much I studied. This was my worst class/mark all term. I would avoid taking his class again.
Rempel is one of the best profs for first year psych. He is a knowledgeable and funny man. His slides are literally from the textbook, but he still makes content interesting in lecture through videos and examples. His midterms were quite difficult but final was easier and a lot of midterm questions were recycled into the final. Highly recommended!
Great overall professor. He can be funny at times, which helps to spice up boring lectures. All his slides are basically out of the textbook, so attendance isn't mandatory. He gives easy midterms and a fair final. Definitely recommended!
Lectures kinda boring, but if you have the textbook there is no need to go to class. However if you do go to class you must still review the text because there are some things he doesn't cover in class. Tests are all MC, but questions asked sometimes don't make sense. Overall decent prof.
Martin is a good teacher and his class is very mediocre. You don't have to attend because he posts his slideshows and reads from the textbook, but it helps you store the information. It's not a stressful class at all but I'd recommend getting a textbook with mypsychlab and utilizing that tool, its very helpful.
Attendance to Professor Martin Rempel's lectures were optional to attend, because he posted his slides online and mostly just repeats whatever is in the textbook anyways. However, he usually adds a dash of humor in class. The course was fair. Multiple choice midterms and finals. Just study and read what ya gotta read. You'll likely pass. Good prof
His lectures are boring and confusing. He seems very unfocused, uninterested and scattered during them. He hardly gives any side notes that are useful. What side notes he does mention are uninformed, judgemental and most of all, not 'funny'.
Cool guy
the slides are pretty much all you need
I thought he was an okay prof. You don't have to go to class because questions from tests come from the textbook. With that being said, reading the textbook is a must. Some questions from tests are hard because you have to really apply and understand what you have learned from the class. I thought he was hot too lol
Tests were easy but some questions can be confusing so make sure you understand the material. Dont have to go to class as he posts notes online and you gotta read the textbook as he gets questions from the textbook! In short, read both slides and the textbook to get a good grade! Hes hot too!
He will never post his slides. So if you miss a class find someone who will share there's with you. He always says Oohh really
This guy is a hoot! Not only does he make jokes in regards to the material, he's also capable of laughing at himself. Take this guy's classes if at all possible!!
His powerpoints have nothing to do with the midterms, so read the textbook inside and out. Hilarious professor (if you like dad jokes), and is quite clear of course material. Easy to talk to about the midterm or any questions that you have. Your final mark is based off 2 midterms and a final exam.
I found it hard to pay attention during his lectures and it was more beneficial to read the textbook then the slides. The questions he asks require you to apply your knowledge quite a bit so make sure you study concepts well.
Rempel is down to earth and a solid lecturer. It was a small class so discussion was easy and engaging. Lots of shared humour. Incredibly easy to talk to.
I rarely went to class so I can't comment on Rempel's teaching, but the class was pretty easy. Make sure to read the textbook completely and I recommend getting the MyPsychLab for the quizzes and videos. When I did go to class Rempel just read from the textbook basically which is why I stopped going, but he was funny with little side comments
Power Points and him reading notes is what I got. I found it difficult to keep my attention focused, which is something you'll need to do because he'll say stuff in class that's not on the Power Points (unless it's in the textbook or mypsychlab, both of which I didn't use). Choice/wording of questions on the test can be weird, so be prepared.
Martin Rempel is an okay professor. He is very funny. I found his midterms to be difficult but the final easy because I read the textbook. His notes aren't very good because they do not provide clear examples of each term. My advice would be to READ THE TEXTBOOK to succeed in this course!
Fairly interesting lectures and is very helpful with questions
Super funny and friendly guy but his lecture style needs work. He reads off his lecture notes, which I think comes from the textbook. Often, his lectures are dry so I stopped attending lectures near the end of the course. Tests are okay but some of the questions are hard to understand. He also spoke very little about assignments, making it unclear.
Boring lectures easy class. Save yourself the time and just read the textbook, if anything he over complicates the materials exams are based off a multiple choice test bank questions from the text.
Showing up to class not needed. In fact, the textbook isn't even really needed. Make sure you understand examples of concepts from the PowerPoint. Lots of notes but just memorize them home and ace the course. 5 bonus marks if you want them. Very interesting material and Rempel is a kind prof.
Honestly, this class was a waste of time. Remple while funny in lectures, could be quite short with students individually and unapproachable in my experience. If taking this class, dont bother showing up, the textbook is pretty much repeated in class and is all you really need, he also posts slides on BB, so you can access them that way.
Though I was not a major fan of Professor Rempel I will give him a 3/5 for the grade I ended up receiving. If you want to pass the class just read and memorize the textbook. The lectures did nothing for me. My grade improved by 20% when I ignored his notes and used the book. He seems nice but it doesn't seem like he really cares how you do...
Although he is a funny and nice guy, his lectures were dreadful because 95% of the them were from the textbook. His assignments were fun and engaging, but I found his exams quite difficult because he mostly tested you on the random experiments in the text rather than the foundational concepts and their basic applications. Also doesn't post slides.
Prof Rempel will test on all the obscure details found in the corners of the textbook for every exam question. So make sure to memorize the location of every comma in the text! He keeps the class average low and then curves up the low end scorers disproportionately to the high end scorers. So if you are a high scorer, choose a different prof.
Just reads off the slideshow and a few things from the textbook. He puts the slides online so it is a waste of time to go to class when I can just do everything on my own at home.
Terrible. Just tells irrelevant stories and reads the textbook at the front of class.
least favorite teacher. Really isn't fit to be a university prof, his teaching style is utter trash. Brings textbook to lectures and reads straight from text so please don't even show up to class. would never take him again. he made a very interesting class super boring. tests too easy, not even university level. Please fire this teacher U of S
He has easy tests but his lectures are really boring. Don't take the Tuesday, Thursday classes with him, the lectures feel like 7 years.
He is hilarious and can make a lecture interesting. Attendance isn't mandatory since he takes everything from the textbook. He is caring and approachable outside of class.
Tries his best to make the lectures interesting and engaging, but most of the time is very dry and packs a lot of material into a short amount of time without giving time for students to comprehend. When it comes to tests, most of the questions were not discussed in class and are textbook-oriented Nice guy, but I would NOT take his class again
Dr. Remple is very intelligent and gives great lectures! He uses humour and has good exams. Really would recommend.
Phenomenal prof, all in all 10/10
its a very hard course if you don't read the text book.
Good, easy class! Just read the text inside out and you will do fine
Not a great prof, but I skipped at least half of the classes and came out with a decent mark. He posts powerpoints, so as long as you read through them and read the textbook, you should do well, but if you're looking to be engaged and learn something, I would not recommend.
Good prof. Read the textbook to study and you will do good. It is not necessary to go to class since his lectures come straight from the textbook. Is a nice guy and is entertaining to listen to. It is a lot of information to try to memorize so give yourself a good amount of study time before tests.
Dr. Rempel's class is fairly easy but be prepared to know the textbook inside and out. His lectures are basically him reading the textbook, a few videos, and the occasional interesting story. This class can be a mark booster and the optional MyPsychLab is a great resource for preparing for tests.
He doesn't just read from the textbook, but I would recommend taking it to class and underlining what he says. Shows real life examples and has fun with the material. Made time fly by!
Attend the lectures and read the textbook then you'll do well!
He's funny, though he just reads from the slides and adds in some anecdotal stores. If you want a good grade MAKE SURE YOU READ THE TEXTBOOK He won't tell you but 40% of the exam is from textbook things and stuff that isn't in his notes posted
Study the textbook inside and out and you should be good to go! He posts slides on blackboard so everything is accessible outside of class
Read the textbook and you'll do well
Interesting material, come to class and participate and you should be good!
His lectures are not extremely interesting, but there's no need to take notes, as he sends all of his slides out. The midterms and final are fair and easy. If you listen in class and skim the textbook, you'll do fine. Also, don't forget to participate in the psychology studies for an easy extra 5%. It's definitely worth it.
Class isnt mandatory, but is essential to read the textbook!!! My psych lab questions are a great way to practice, and doing the extra credit is a must for a bonus 5%. Learned interesting stuff as well, always a bonus!
He's a real fatherly figure, a great man. However, his lectures are quite dry - although he does try to add in some humor (dad humor). Attendance isn't mandatory, but he does show videos on class that WILL appear on the tests and final. I wouldn't take a class again with him, but I didn't hate the class either.
He simplifies the material so it's easier to understand, and he makes it funny. 10/10 would recommend you take him, he's a good lecturer.
his lectures does not correspond with his test. his lectures are not helpful.
Asks very specific questions from the textbook. Very entertaining and funny
Was a funny professor in class, but rarely communicates with his past students outside of classes. Not very approachable, in my own opinion. However, this is bias and I do suggest taking his course as he is a funny character.
I enjoyed his lectures he was funny and interesting to listen to. He posts his slides which is nice and his lectures are mostly word for word from the text book. I found the q's on the midterms were unbalanced between chapters. Did not do well on midterms despite doing everything he said to do and pay more attention to which was frustrating.
He doesnt seem to care about his students too much which makes sense because its a bigger class but its really hard to keep up with notes since he goes through like 40 slides per lecture. He seems like an alright guy otherwise....
Martin is not the most exciting lecturer, I found myself getting bored/distracted during his classes. If you really want to be interested and intrigued in class, I wouldn't recommend him. he posts notes online so really you don't have to show up.
I think Martin was a good prof. He kept the lectures interesting, and talked about stuff outside of the PowerPoint notes. He does use the textbook, and doesn't exactly specify what you need to read, but you are asked questions from the textbook on exams. So reading the textbook in full in probably a good idea. There is Participatory Pool for bonus.
Martin Rempel is a disagreeable dude. I found him opinionated and provoking in a bad way.
notes are all posted online which is good. read the textbook!!!! There will be questions on the midterms and final that will require knowledge from reading the textbook!
During lectures he literally reads off of the textbook, it's like listening in audible basically when you come to class, he would occasionally make jokes or tell a story which he draws from past experience that relates to the topic but it's really nothing important to be honest. Would not recommend him.
I thought he was a good prof and had reasonable exams.
Hes funny and approachable. His material was all from the textbook, so theres a lot of reading. There are some questions in the exam on things that he says in lecture that are not in the textbook so I would recommend going to the lectures.
TRICK. QUESTIONS. STAY AWAY
Midterms and Final questions came directly from the textbook. There is no point in attending the boring lectures. Do yourself a favour and avoid this prof.
Awful. This class is ridiculous. Lots of interesting material but the exams are a joke. He puts tons of tricky questions in or ones that just make no sense. I have a final coming up and I don't even know if there's a point of studying. He does curve the marks quite a bit as well (cause everyone does so bad cause his tests are WHACK)
Took over another profs class so did good considering. Some weird questions on tests but overall good. Wasn't hard but was hard for psych. Difficult to judge as wasnt using his usual textbook
Martin was a good professor, considering he took over for MacGregor. It would of been more helpful if we kept using the launchpad, but there was no chance of that. His slides are basically right from the text book. Midterms trick questions. Overall Class average was pretty low, showing the difficulty.
Martin was a nice guy and considering he took over for another prof at the beginning of the semester he did a pretty good job teaching us the material. However, I don't think the exams were a good representation of what we learned in class. All of our class averages were high 50's and 60's.
Rempel was a pretty dry professor even though he tries to be hilarious. He would typically read straight off the slides and take examples from the textbook directly. It's as if I'm listening to an audiobook. Everything from the videos he shares in class to the content in the textbook is on the exam so make sure you know all your stuff.
He's not a very good lecturer but the class is easy, the exam questions are right out of the slides and textbook so just do your readings and you'll be okay.
Martin was a great professor. His content was interesting and he was light hearted and funny. However Martin reads directly from the textbook so attendance isn't neccesarily mandatory. The use of Revel helped a lot and the online quizzes helped get a better understanding. If you have a choice I suggest taking one of his classes!
Boring
reads from the textbook, useless prof.
Not a terrible prof at all. Buy the textbook! He reads directly from the textbook which is nice because then you don't have to show up. I found he would put small details from the text on the tests, making them hard. Put in the time to read over the textbook to study.
A straightforward prof. Basically just recited each topic from lecture slides/textbook from memory and then gave examples so that you understood it all. The content wasnt too hard, anything you didnt get you could easily find in the textbook. Showed up almost every class wearing double denim and an earring in one ear, an absolute legend.
He basically reads the textbook for you in the lectures. If you are good at reading the textbook yourself, skip the lectures and utilize your time reading and understanding the topic. You will likely do well because all the questions on the exam are application based.
Definitely makes you work for your grade. He has the hardest multiple choice I have ever written. Reads almost word for word what is in the textbook. Multiple choice tests only, but questions come from entire textbook, small things he says in class, and videos he shows. He has general questions and very specific questions, so hard to study for.
Reads word for word from the textbook so don't need to show up to class. Midterms and final all multiple choice. Tests were not bad if you knew how to apply the terms to situations, instead of just knowing the definition. Had a lot of random specific questions so read the entire textbook not just the terms!
Amazing and funny
The term was fully online (COVID). Disappointed b/c instead of providing audible lectures he just attached readings for every module and would test us every 3 modules. So if you're not a good independent learner and aren't able to pick out what info is important I wouldn't take this class during COVID. The in-person class is probably much better.
I would not recommend Rempel during COVID if you're planning on taking PSY120. He didn't provide any recorded lectures, all of the units were simply read on the computer and read out of the textbook. Major eye strain and not engaging in the slightest. I know people who like him so he might be better in person though. Wouldn't recommend online tho
Martin Rempel course load was heavy and did not provide any lectures (COVID) I would not recommend taking this class during covid.
I really enjoyed Psychology 121 with Rempel. I enjoyed the laid back lectures that were predicted by the chapters of the textbook and how on most Fridays we watched Ted Talks. The midterms are not necessarily easy but are not bad either considering the simplistic material. Overall under-rated Prof.
Pretty underrated prof but there's lots of reading to do and lots of self teaching if you're taking the class online.
I had a tough time learning anything in this class, as it was asynchronous. you basically have to teach yourself the entire course; it's all just textbook and module readings. There were no lecture videos, which made everything even harder. If you can't learn through this type of teaching method, don't take this classmaybe take it after covid.
Alright so, if you take this class online, know that there are zero lectures. You just need to learn around 11 chapters from the book and then do the midterms and there were also module discussions. You are going to have to teach yourself the context and everything. You have a chance to get 5% bonus though so thats cool.
I don't think I can count Martin as having been my professor considering he didn't give us a single lecture and instead made us read hours upon hours of notes! This one did not get the memo that even during a global pandemic, you still have to teach not just let your class mindlessly read for hours on end
Get ready to read the entire textbook, & for questions that you'd never expect to answer. (%'s from a case study) Felt like i was drowning this whole class. 0 lectures, had to teach myself everything. the notes given are basically useless. I found it hard to teach myself everything. The only way I'd ever have him as a prof again is Not during covid
