Dr. Rodriguez was a great professor. He had a lot of assignments on our schedule and then made some of them optional when students became overwhelmed . One big podcast group assignment due at the end of the semester and then weekly reading journals. Gives plenty of class time to do group project.
Don't take his class if you can take it with another professor he's the worst. omg you have no idea how mad he made me and my classmates. he never responds to emails even though he says "shoot me an email" all the time and when you ask him questions in class his responses are so rude. i would never take a class with him again.
Dr. Martin challenged our thinking and showed what defining your faith looks like through critical thinking and intellectual conversations.
Dr. Rodriguez has to be one of the most inspirational professors I have ever had. Coming from a student who hates having homework, it was tough not gonna lie but it was manageable. He is one of the most considering and respectful professors I've had, but if you're ready to work and read A LOT then take his class.
If you can take this class with a different professor do it! Martin is not flexible and gives crazy amounts of work. He is super hard to reach outside of class. Make sure you go to class or youll fail. He made some really questionable comments throughout the semester and no one in my class that I spoke to had a good experience with him.
Overall, he was not my favorite professor. A lot of work was assigned and he was very hard to get ahold of at certain times. Professor Rodriguez cares about his students and wants them to do well, but he is a difficult teacher. When times were stressful he tried his best to cut down the work load. I was not a fan of his discussions.
he expects way too much of his students and isnt a prof i would EVER take again. his in class discussions are held by him not the class and its so frustrating. he doesnt give students room to speak.
Awesome professor
He was a good one, just a hectic amount of work
He was cool, he was really lecture heavy but really gives outside class time to do some of the projects he assigns
Dr. Rodriguez was probably one of the best professors I have had. Yes he did give us a lot of work, but he was more than willing to work with us and cut down the work load. He definitely listened to us and our grievances. He also taught us great life lessons and is VERY knowledgeable in his subject.
He was very understanding that the class we were in was not our number one priority and he was willing to let us make up previous assignments and he tried to give us as many points as possible.
Great Guy, cares for his students a lot. This class had a ton of reading and it was overall very lecture heavy. The readings did have good information and were very helpful. If you are not a fan of a lot of reading and just listening in class, you might not enjoy it. He is willing to make adjustments and lower the amount of work if needed.
Focused on very important topics. People in this class complained about the workload but it seemed like they were just experiencing normal freshman adjustments to college classes. It had an average amount of work compared to all of my other classes. Dr. Rodriguez is caring and nice.
The Prof. was kind, however always assigned a lot of work so be ready to do heavy amounts of Journals, must read 20-25 pages of text, per week, do 1 Journal for 2 separate books. Participation matters heavily/attendance that has a category in the grade book. No Final but there is a podcast you must record with a group/ 22min long. Reading are bias.
If you are looking for a sign, this is it. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. This class was awful, grading was questionable, Martin rarely answered emails. He was not helpful when you asked for help and he assigned a lot of busy work. The discussions were led by Martin and often left students feeling extremely uncomfortable because of the comments made.
Prof. Martinez cares a lot about his work, but took class way too seriously for a GenEd ministry course. Super hardcore discussions and group projects, tough grader (down to decimal points), BUT tried to lighten up when students complained. Felt more like a critical thinking class than ministry. Very nice and intelligent, but NOT an easy A prof.
Professor Rodriguez created a safe learning environment for my class and made me and my other classmates feel comfortable and valid in sharing our own thoughts, ideas, opinions, perspectives, and experiences. We genuinely cared about each of his students and was there as a resource of support and guidance inside and outside of class.
Professor Rodriguez was an amazing professor. I always felt safe and my perspectives on certain subjects were always greatly appreciated. He does assign a lot of reading to do, but that is in order for you to participate in the discussions during the class time. Final project was a podcast and he gives you plenty of time to finish it.
All the positive comments about this prof are interesting. They must have been assigned a good group/topic- because that is your grade. Lazy group bad grade or you do the work of three people and they benefit off of you. He begged our class to give him positive reviews- Run away from him- he will never return an email or be available for you.
Our Class was mainly discussion based. We would do a Journals then go over them during class and just get into in-depth conversations about the topics. Rarely in that class did we use our laptops or take out any notebooks. Like I said we mostly talked in class which helped everyone develop more of a sense of those around and how they feel/think.
I like Dr. Martin class, because it provided a space for students to come and reflect on issues we were having. I liked how he opened class with prayer and mindfulness. I like the theme of his class was where can I see Gods grace in my life. Sometimes communication is not clear with assignment guidelines but he is lenient so it does not matter.
Must take him if you want to have a great teacher for Min 108! There is a lot of reading required, but that's about as hard as it gets. If you tell him you need more time, he'll work with you. He cares for all his students and the discussions in class are so great, they will stay with you all your life.
This was a great class and overall not very difficult at all. You do not have any tests or quizzes, you work on a podcast project the whole semester. The instructions of the podcast project are not super clear. The instructor really cares about you as a person and will tell you about how he is doing and equally wants to know how you are doing.
a lot of group work so if you don't like that don't take the class. There are also a lot of personal discussions with the class so if you don't like being called on don't take the class. Overall though the professor was ok, he is understanding and works with his students.
He assigns lots of readings and critical responses to the readings. Discussions every week & he makes you talk about uncomfortable and private topics (Will cold call!). Grade will drop if you skip. Podcast is the only big assignment, and he is not really clear on the directions. He also never brings up God for it being a class about Christianity.
This was by far my favorite professor when it came to a bible class. One large assignmnet which is the podcast. After that simple reading journals every week. Very understanding and caring however attendance is mandatory or your grade will drop no matter how well you do on assignments.Makes you feel important and listens to what you share.
Dr. R has been an amazing professor and seeks to foster relationships with the students. The only thing for me was we had a lot of reading while mixing three books at once which was very confusing to me.
the class taught me a lot about self reflection. (almost) weekly quizzes and readings required- quizzes are open book. one big group project and a final!
This professor has good lectures, likes to receive feedback, and have conversations with students. I found this class to have a lot of reading pretty much every week. Also attendance is mandatory and will heavily impact your grade if you don't attend class. Overall, I enjoyed this professor as a person and his lectures but the work load was heavy.
This teacher is very understanding in terms of work and super flexible. Very nice and would take this teacher again.
Dr. Rodriguez was a great professor, he was easy to understand and would always want us to ask questions. Half way through the semester, we would do group projects which I was a fan of. Something you should know he is slow at responding to emails and text.
Dr. Martin is a great professor! He is very helpful and you can tell he really cares for his students. His lectures are very clear and easy to understand, but if you struggle to follow along he still sends out handouts that give a brief outline of the lecture. He assigns weekly readings but it's no more than 2-4 short chapters.
Dr. Rodriguez was very understanding when it came to the workload he assigned and the time given for them. I greatly appreciated this because he saved me a lot of stress. His lectures are very engaging and he encourages discussion during the lectures. He's pretty fun to be honest which is something I enjoyed. I would totally take his class again :)
He is very knowledgeable about the topics discussed in class and is more than open to answering questions about topics. He wants to see you succeed and shows that in grading and conversation.
Professor Rodriguez is a very chill guy who makes the clases very easy and fun making the class time go by very quick and unlike other professors he is very nice when grading assignments. I am really glad I had the opportunity to have such an awesome professor in my first semester at APU.
Professor Rodriguez is a very good and understanding person and gives the class the privilege of knowing what he is really like not only as a professor but also as a person. He is a great professor overall and it gives me great joy to have him for my first semester at APU.
Dr. Rodriguez was a super awesome teacher who truly cared for his students and their success in his class. He will drop assignments for you if you have an excused absence, which is super helpful for athletes. The lectures are a little hard to follow, and you have to read three books at once, but he curves the midterm and gives extra credit!
He genuinely cares for students and wants them to succeed. He is very kind and understanding towards athletes who have to miss. Give good feedback! Tests and quizzes were hard.
Professor Rodriguez is a great professor and getting to know him this past semester was really nice. His class is easy if you put a good amount of effort into the reading and the lectures. He is really kind and caring and creates a warm classroom environment. I would definitely like to have this professor again! Thanks Professor Rodriguez!
Pro.Rodriguez was a really good professor. His way of teaching involved a lot talking with him (sometimes a bit too much) with the class and encouraging the class to engage with one another. Encouraged the class to engage with one another and found ways to include the class in the material other than just talking about it.
information is a little heavy, but he gives many chances to boost grade. overall if you pay attention and read the books you will succeed.
Dr. Rodriguez is a good professor and he really cares about his students. There are many chances that can help you increase your grade and many extra chances. He was also understanding with excused absences. He gave us many opportunities to interact with one another, such as sharing with the people next to us or group projects.
In Dr. Rodriguez class you need to memorize and read carefully for tests .If you try in class then it will not feel like a hard class. Extra credit is provided to help grade. He also gives more time in assignments if it is needed
He takes his time
He takes time to grade assignments very thoroughly and gives detailed feedback. Pay attention to the assignment guidelines, because they really matter in grading. Assignments take honest effort and time.
Dr. Rodriguez is a wonderful professor, he wants students to do well in the class, and will help broaden each student's understanding from the course material. He loves to hear your thoughts on the lectures and lessons. MINC 253: Evangelism and Discipleship was a small class, and Professor made each student feel welcomed. Definitely recommend!
Martin Rodriquez is a great Professor who truly cares about his students. Though he is very lecture heavy. I wish he did better was to give slides of the notes for us to have due to me not being able to keep up with his verbal lectures. That issue hurt me during the midterm and final exam. Overall would definitely like to have him again.
I had a very fun time in this class! Professor martin does a really good job on engaging the class with his lectures and the quizzes are relatively easy since they are just based on a couple chapters of a book! Overall this was a great class to take!
Lots of reading and note taking
Dr. Martin is a great professor that wants to know more about his students and their perspectives on the lectures he is giving. He gives good feedback on big assignments & response answers on tests. There is a quite bit of reading to do, but nothing too crazy. Overall, I had a good time in his class!
Dr. Rodriguez is a good professor. The work is heavily group project orientated, so if you have an uncooperative group, it's a nightmare to get any work done in the class. The lectures are also boring and he goes on tangents every so often that you never know what you're supposed to take notes on. Otherwise, it's a decent class and he grades well.
He's great
Dr Rodriguez is a lovely professor. He is so sweet, kind, and caring. He values his students' wellbeing and does everything he can to help them succeed. His class consists of lots of reading, 3 books were read in which we would have quizzes on 2 of them and the 3rd was for a research project. We did a lot of group work. Overall the course was great
Professor Rodriguez is a great professor, he had our class do many group projects that were both fun and interactive. He was lenient about the work, so if you for some reason can't turn in the work on time because of something asking him would be a good thing as he is always finding ways to help students out. I would take the class again.
Professor Martin Rodriguez does a phenomenal job integrating students real world experiences, ministry experiences and faith development all together. Professor Rodriguez welcomed all questions and is extremely understanding, supportive and yet still challenges you to see a multitude of perspectives in all that we do! Highly recommend!
Professor Rodriguez is as capable as they come for teaching discipleship. You will not leave the class felling like there was something that you wish was talked about.
Great class! Professor Rodriguez structured it so that students could learn through discussion. As an introvert, there was room to discuss in a pair, and he also would intentionally ask me questions in the group discussion so that I had room to share my thoughts. Doing the reading is essential for participating. However, the books are interesting.
Dr. Rodriguez and some of my classmates went through a lot this semester with the Eaton fires, but he was very gracious in response to those circumstances. He gave us the grace he wished to receive, and he was always checking on us and creating intentional conversations in class that edified. There was a lot of reading and participation required!
Professor Rodriguez was a very caring and understanding professor. There are weekly quizzes and you will have to read two different books for this course. Both are interesting and have great content. There is a midterm and final. There is a group project that you do all semester if you like group projects.
This professor seems to care a lot about his knowledge base which is cool but seems to struggle a lot with limited perspective and obvious internal biases that occasionally pop up throughout the semester.
Dr. R class went pretty well. The worst thing I would say about this class is the amount of reading quizzes as I am someone who is not a good test taker. Other than that the class is super straightforward.
Professor Rodriquez was a great professor. He is very caring and has a very open mind when it comes to opposing views or differing religions and their practices. This course requires a lot of reading, but the books were all very interesting and easy to read. You can expect weekly quizzes on the readings, but they are all open book and very easy.
Overall Professor Rodriguez was an amazing professor. He was very understanding the entire semester and always found ways to address any concerns that his students had. If you keep up with the reading and stay on track with assignments for the group project you will do just fine. I recommend taking this course with Professor Rodriguez.
He's very lighthearted and always interested in what the students have to say. I've appreciated his understanding and engagement with the students.
Not your standard professor. He brings a fresh new perspective to the class and allows for group conversations each week—very flexible and understanding of certain events or problems. Highly recommended if you ever get the chance!
The professor was super friendly and always available to chat after class. Be warned that there will be weekly reading quizzes and 3 books to read (1 that you choose), a group research project, and a final exam. These quizzes and tests were pretty hard for me.This course is not easy, but if you put in the work for the assignments, you should pass.
Dr. Rodriguez is a great professor! He is kind and empathetic and very much wants to see his students succeed. He has been more than willing to help me on assignments I've fallen behind on and has even made himself available to help me with other school issues that have nothing to do with him. Dr. Rodriguez has a clear passion for teaching!
Dr. Rodriguez is very kind and caring. He wants you to succeed and makes it very easy to pass as long as you do assignments. There are 2 required books that you need to read and there will be almost weekly quizzes but they are fairly straightforward. Overall, a very nice professor, and I would for sure take him again.
Professor Rodriguez is passionate about the topics he does teach, and he does give very thoughtful responses to what students say during class discussions as well as for the assignments. There are two main books that we read and have weekly quizzes on. Majority of the grade is based on a semester long project and attendance.
Professor Rodriguez is an authentic, relational, developer of future church leaders.
Professor Rodriguez is very intelligent and offers deep insights about theology and life practices. His class is well organized and straight forward, where much of the grade is based on attendance and the semester long project. Aside from that, there are quizzes based on books that I found to be very meaningful and applicable to real life problems.
He is very nice and understanding. Don't worry about him being really strict or anything. You will be fine in his class.
Dr. Rodriguez care greatly about his students and their learning. He facilitates very well and teaches in a simplistic way and gives a voice to all his students. He is very careful and encouraging and helps every student feel valued and their contributions vital. I would gladly sit under him again for another class.
You have to read 2 books at the same time in his class and you have to do multiple interviews on people. You also have randomly assigned group projects. He also kept our grade hidden until about the last month and a month of class that is when I found out I had an F. Attendance is mandatory and is weighted 50% of your grade. So good luck!
Professor Rodriguez actually cares about his students. He gave great feedback toward essays. Attendance is mandatory and usually there were 1-2 quizzes every week but open-book. His lectures seemed kinda like tangents but they mostly kept to the topic he wanted us to learn for the day. Final & midterm were also open-book.
Professor Rodriguez did a great job at engaging the class during each lecture. We read three different books across the semester, and Professor Rodriguez explained each book thoroughly. The lectures did get lengthy at times and lectures did take up almost all of the class time each session. Overall I would definitely take his class again.
Professor Rodriguez is a lecture-heavy teacher; we would have lectures every day and reading quizzes every week. He is a very engaging teacher and wants to answer everyone's questions. I enjoyed having him. I just wish there wasn't so much work.
Professor Rodriguez is a very kind person. I can see his passion not only to teach students but to serve the Lord as well. He is very comfortable to talk to and doesn't make you seem like you are wrong. He seems like he genuinely cares for his students. I can definitely see God through him.
If you guys want to get high score, you should take a class, that's all, just attend class.
Is an amazing professor, lecturer, and best teacher you could take. Course requires lots of reading, quizzes have too many answer options and are about the author's opinion. Must know your bible verses. At the end of the semester you will be required to write a final essay, final presentation, final exam with 100 questions and an essay response.
Dr. Rodriguez was a great professor—very passionate about the subject and incredibly flexible with students. The class itself isn't too difficult, but it does require a lot of reading. Definitely make sure to take good notes during his lectures, because his quizzes are heavily based on them.
A lot of reading required but a caring and fair professor.
Great lecturer. The professor shows his love for God and really puts the four Cornerstones of APU in the forefront of the class.
This professor is amazing! He does a very good job covering the books we had to read in class. Would 100% recommend!!
Amazing professor and great lectures! There is a lot of reading and information in the lectures so make sure to pay attention to do well on the quizzes
He is caring but wouldnt recommend him as a professor with sound Christian theology. Extremely lecture heavy. Did not create comfortable environment to ask questions because always rushing through content. You need to read text. Worked hard but not an impossible class. I just did not agree with a lot of his theology (race/politics/social justice)
I really really love his lectures and he is really energetic. However pretty much all of the material for the quizzes are in the books so the lectures are kind of useless, I just like the way he talks. At the end of the year there is a ~100 question mcq final with 2 essays that apparently only this professor does for core.
If you are not planning to be a pastor, don't you dare choosing him
He is a very dedicated teacher.
He's a very good listener and trys to answer any questions students have.
Professor Rodriguez is an amazing professor who is spiritually led and takes questions, while also guiding students.
Professor Rodriguez is an amazing professor he's super understanding, and will always work with his students for there common goals. The workload that he gives is never too much and he's very flexible with late assignments just communicate.
A lot of reading was necessary for the near weekly quizzes. But overall if you took good notes of the lecture and books, then you will be fine in his class. Lectures were also interesting.
Martin is an excellent professor; he ties his work and faith together in a way that feels like you aren't just a student but also a part of the community at APU. He replied to emails fast, and although he speaks in long lectures, his passion for the subject matter comes through. Participation in his class is highly recommended, and read the books
I really did enjoy having Professor Martin Rodriguez in my fall semester. One thing I really enjoyed about his teaching was that you could tell he loved what he did, and he tried to make his lectures as intriguing as possible. I loved the class discussions that often came from many of his lectures. I would highly recommend taking him.
Dr. Rodriguez is so passionate about what he teaches and how he incorporates faith into ethnic studies is wonderful. This class is very discussion-based, and I am super introverted, but he helps create a space where all students feel welcome and encouraged to share their experiences. Such a great class and such a great professor!
Professor Rodriguez was really passionate about what he teaches. I really liked how in his lectures he incorporates real life situations to the material he is teaching. He is a really great listener and answers the class questions very honestly. I would highly recommend taking him!
Professor Rodriguez is a great professor. He cares about his students and truly wants everyone to succeed in his class. There are times when he may miss an email, but if you follow up with him in person to make sure he received it, he always responds. Overall, he's a fantastic professor—if he taught all the Bible courses, I would only take his!
Professor Rodriguez was really nice and competent. He would talk about his own life in lectures so it was easier to remember certain concepts. As the semester went on in core100 the quizzes got harder and harder, so just keep that in mind if you take that class. I would 100% recommend him.
This was a great class assignments were fairly simple as long as you did the readings. Never gave us any surprise test or assignments always gave us time and prepared us for projects or assignments we had. Gives good feedback well also giving many opportunities to get a higher score on your next assignment.
Professor Rodriguez is a great teacher who makes the material easy to understand by using personal stories and clear explanations. The books and readings are helpful, and the tests are fair if you keep up with them. He is kind, patient, and always answers questions honestly. I would 100% recommend him to other students.
Martin Rodriguez is a professor who is very passionate about his teachings. He gives a lot of personal stories to tie into the topic that is being discussed, and is very supportive. Feel free to ask him many questions, as you won't get judged.
great professor with a really good heart for his students and the class itself. be prepared for long lectures, but ask a lot of questions cause it's really interesting to hear his points.
amazing teaches very well. barley anywork
Extremely caring teacher. Genuinely wants every one to learn, and is always open to hearing from others.
Dr. Rodriguez was one of the best professors I've had. He sincerely cares for his students and makes sure they understanding the material through his lectures. He is super sweet and understanding, take him!!
