Makes history interesting. Test are mostly based on the notes from class. 4 two page papers based on questions from text book. Gives extra credit for more papers. Try his 6 Saturday weekend class. He knows his stuff. Great teacher !!!
GOOD TEACHER.. LITTLE BORING SOMETIMES, BUT VERY CLEAR
Excellent teacher. Very passionate about his work. I would recommend him to all History students.
He makes every class interesting, full of tons of useful information and anecdotes. Top notch. The only downside is that he just keeps going forever, expect only a few questions per class.
I was looking fwd to Western Civ but was disappointed w/ the class; Saltzman drones on and on and makes a class thats an hour and twenty minutes feel as though it is 4 hours long...
...i will always choose him to be my history teacher...
He was good proffesor but boring as all hell
Very smart man, has much information to give. Excellent teacher!
he gets boring because of the material and has a habit of droning on and on. he's a good professors and the class isn't that hard at all. the hard part is stayin' up the entire time. LET US OUT EARLY!!! lol
the class is boring and goes by very slow, but the professor explains everything in depth. not alot of work at first it seems like its going to be hard but as long as u go to class and take notes you will do good on the tests.
He is very passionate about history. Tells some interesting stories but he can go on forever. Very boring class but very easy. As long as you take notes you'll do great.
Nice Guy, Bad Teacher. Never lets you out on time. Doesn't know when to stop talking. Vey unclear with his grading. Smart man, Bad teacher
Knows everything there is to know about history but does NOT make it interesting. He never stops talking and there is ALOT of info on his tests! Very hard class to attend without shooting yourself.
He does like to talk, but he tells a good story, making history interesting and real. If you don't like to or can't write, you will struggle with this class, otherwise it's a breeze
very fair
this guy rambles all class. I've heard him talk about theodore roosevelt for an entire class, and then not even have a question about him on the test. He knows his history but he won't teach it to you, unless you ask him a hundred questions. He also gives essay tests... o yea and he looks like a mad scientist ;)
I really enjoyed this professor. I thought he was very fair. He does talk alot but he knows his stuff, and delivers his lectures in a story like manner. I would definetly recommend this professor. I took him for all but two of my history courses and that's only because he didn't teach the last two. Just show up you'll do great.
Seems you are destined to either love this guy or hate him. I thought he was great. I hear many people complain, but I think they're just lazy. He's fiesty and won't accept a half-a-- answer, good for him! Wish there were more like him.
Boy, does this guy love to talk. There's lots of information given by him. Just take good notes and you'll do fine on his essay tests.
his essays are really easy and he teaches what he wants at his own pace all u need to do is take notes and do ur essays and its an easy A
BEST HISTORY CLASSES EVER, I DID GET SLEEPY, BUT WHO WOULDN'T IN ANY HISTORY CLASS, HE WAS A GREAT TEACHER AND THE CLASSES WERE COOL, I GOT B'S OR BETTER IN EACH CLASS, AND LEARNED A LOT.....
I hope your next class is right around the corner because your getting out at least 15 min late every class. This guy loves to talk, and always knows what he's talking about. Know your stuff by the time the test comes otherwise your destined to fail. Not a bad class at all; if you can stay awake.
Interesting, Knows the material like the back of his hand. Assignments are not too hard. He loves to talk and always lets you out late and he can get a little monotonic and sarcastic at points.
never reach what your read in the book. Talk what he want, the test is 10 short essaies. Late for other class. sometime get lost.
Dr. Saltzman is a rarity. He resembles Beethoven quite a bit. He rarely writes on the board, so listen attentively if you want good notes. His tests are primarily his notes. I couldn't study for my first exam and went in and got a 75, so if you put the effort surely you can score higher. They are 10 short essays. He is very fair and clear.
He will drone on and on and on and on and on...I love history...and because of this class I came to loathe it...don't take him!
Easiest history class ever! He's great. Definately knows what he's talking about. His tests are all based on his notes and pretty easy if u just pay attention and write down what he says.
Think Jack Nicholson in the Shining (look-wise) and add a vast knowledge or history and you get Dr. Saltzman. He knows what hes talking about, bases all his questions/exams on topics he covered in class, which is very easy to follow and take notes on, and is always ready to help you. He also gives you great outlines and review sheets. Great Class!!
I love this guy! Looks like Doc. from back to the futore, makes history come alive and links events very well, sit back and lisson, u will lurn alot.
He is so easy. Write four (2 page) papers using the text book (all opinon) papers so its not like he can really give you a bad grade. You take ALOT of note, and he test are all essay questions.
Professor Saltzman is an okay professor but he knows a lot about what he teaches. He has gone places as well, which makes him teach what he has seen. However, he smokes so much so that he sometimes stinks of smoke in class, and the nasty stuff around his mouth makes the whole show worse.Just read what he writes in class...TAKE GOOD NOTES, and you'll
I love history so the class was easy for me. He does make the material interesting and he keeps it real with history. Some professor like to sugar coat the truth but not him which is great.
KNOWS WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT. Sometimes I wonder how he fits everything into his head. He's an easy and fair grader, and he teaches stuff you'll never hear from anybody else. Extremely interesting. Get him if you can.
Very talkative. He'll keep you their till the last minute and almost always shows up late. Don't take his class too early in the morning cause you'll never stay awake during it. Easy class as long as you do your work, attend class and take good notes.
I love European Histoty and this guy killed the it for me. Talks forever. I'm not disputing whether or not he knows his subject, but he can be extremely insulting and condescending especially if your opinion differs from his. I wouldn't be surprised if he was a commie; he was shocked that my Cuban family opposed Castro. >_<
This man is an absolute genius! He absolutely knows his stuff to the extreme and teaches the subject with clarity and ease. You'll learn so much in his class you'll wonder how you got such a great teacher! If you love history, you'll love this man. He'll clarify anything up real fast!! He's one of the best professors here at this school! Take him!
I gotta start off by saying that normally I suck at History, and I was dreading taking this subject. In the end, i'm glad I got Professor Saltzman. He's fairly easy. He tells you exactly what's on the midterm and the final, and he assigns four easy papers that most of the time, you'll get an A on. Overall, I ended up with a B. Good professor.
Prof. Saltzman is a chill professor. Taking his class at 8 in the morning was not a good idea because he made me want to go to sleep.. but he made history pretty interesting and he only gives 4 papers a midterm and a final.. not bad take him
This is a class that I would reccomend for people to take. This teacher has the most knowledge about History that you will meet. Take this class he gives you the most clariity. This is a class that you will want to take whil you are at post
He keeps the class very interesting with the way he talks about history, though I think he counts the tests a bit too much. The final is 50%, midterm is 25%, and the four papers total the other 25%. As history is a subject that a bad teacher can make seem boring, I am very glad I took his class.
4 Papers (around 4-6 pgs each), a midterm and a final. He knows his stuff, but he drags on and on. He's not really engaging, but he is a nice guy. Don't take him at 8 am, and if you have to, bring a GIANT cup of coffee
Excellent professor, He makes the class very interesting. The lectures seems more like storytelling/gossip and very engaging. He teaches with charisma. You really have to try hard and do nothing to fail this class. Go to class, take notes and you should get higher than a C.
Prof. Saltzman is a complete snoozefest, especially at 8 in the morning. However, if you do poorly in his class, it is your own fault. He makes it very simple to get a good grade- just go to class (he takes attendance), do all four of the assigned papers, and go over notes for midterm and final. boring, but knows his stuff

4 (2 page) papers, midterm, final. Professor keeps you till the end of class every class. Know all definitions. He is a good person... and makes it simple for you to get a good grade.
Professor Saltzman is terrible. His class is boring and his tests are tricky. I love History but he ruined it for me. Not a lot of work so you'll do well but he's the problem. Take LOTS of notes. Or just don't take him and live happier.
His style of teaching is strict lecture -- he rarely writes anything on the board or hands anything out. That being said, if you take good notes and do all four papers on time and to specification, you'll do fine. Typing your notes will help make sure you can keep up, because he does go fast sometimes.
Very intelligent teacher. Mid-term and final are some what challenging.
This guy is great! His lectures are more like listening to a really good story teller. He's very clear about what you have to do and when you have to do it, and he really knows his stuff. I loved this class and it's because of him. Look for him and take his class!
Can be boring but most of the time is very interesting
Take him. His lectures are boring but the class itself is easy. 2 papers, a midterm, and a final. Not a bad class.
straight lecturing for the ENTIRE time. take good notes and you'll do well, be ready to write.. a lot.
Makes history incredibly boring. Lectures for the entire duration of the class and is very unorganized. Midterm & final were very challenging. 4 essays, midterm, and final. Takes attendance every class. Good luck staying awake.
For those that are taking this class as a requirement-TAKE HIM. He presents the material like a children's story tale. His lectures are designed to give you every single piece of information needed-if you write down what he says you WILL do well on the midterm, final, and 4 required essays. He genuinely ares, will talk to you, and help you do well
My education is very important to me and this class was just unbelievable. Professor Saltzman should NOT be working @ Post any longer. He is completely all over the place with his lectures, you can barely understand him, he foams from the mouth the entire time and his exams need to be so in depth with specific dates or you will not pass.
He does tend to go off topic, but overall his stories are amazing and make learning the material much easier than if he just lectured from a book. There wasn't a lot of work and he's flexable with deadlines, overall an amazing teacher who I learned a lot from. If you can take notes, read a little bit, and know how to write a paper, it's an easy A.
mad boring classes. DON'T CHOSE THIS PROFESSOR if you don't want to end up hating your history classes. His voice is monotone, he doesn't allow people to give their own meanings as he talks over them, doesn't talk about the relevant stuff, goes on and on and on. Spent a whole class talking about potato facts....He is my worst professor, believe me!
This class is all lecture so I would recommend a laptop. He is a fair grader. All homeworks and tests are essay based. Very boring class, but he definatly knows his stuff.
Over all it was a boring class. He knows the material very well. You need to buy the textbooks because they are needed to write the essays. Attendance is mandatory to pass class. If you write desent essays and show up to class you will pass
Hes really boring, but seems very interested in what he is talking about.
His lectures are not the most entertaining, but you can tell he is very knowledgable and really is an expert in the subject. his essays are pretty easy, I got A's on them just by writing what the prompt was asking.. took me about 3 hours in one sitting usually. his exams are also pretty fair. Just study the important concepts and you'll be fine.
He knows what he's talking about, but it's incredibly boring and he has no organization to his lectures. He just sits on the table and talks in his monotone voice. He doesn't accept anyone's opinions and he calls people stupid sometimes for thinking a certain way. I like history, but I HATE this class. I would strongly recommend another professor.
I previously rated this professor as poor, and while my opinions reflected in that review still stand, upon finishing the course I must add that he accepted 3/4 of my papers late and still gave me an A in the course because they were well written and I also did well on the tests. So he may not be as bad as he seems.
Despite what many people think, Saltzman is a very good professor. Although his notorious monotone voice can be boring, you can take a lot from this class. More than 2 absences and your grade begins to drop. Also, the only homework assignments are 4 essays written using the text book. follow instructions and you should have no problem getting an A.
Being a Healthcare Admin major I was not abt this class. The first day, I was not happy to learn he did not do notes or sildes. However, he lectures in a way that outlines each chapter. Kept it interesting. Take notes, do the work, and your good. He was very sweet and understanding handing in late work. Nice guy all around! Def taking HIS 2 next!
Would not take again.
Basically assigns papers all day and acts arrogant to the students. Avoid like the plague!
Teaches untrue history and claims as facts. Obviously prejudice against muslims, rude obnoxious and doesn't even know most of the history he teaches
Ive taken two of his classes. His lectures sometimes seems to drag on forever, but if you pay attention and stay on top of assignments you're sure to get a good grade.
This professor was awful. This class wasn't required for my major but just for an elective. He has no notes or anything. You just have to sit there & listen to him talk every day. It's so hard to follow him for an hour and 20 minutes with no notes to read off of and he's rude. Any questions you have, he'll answer them making you feel like an idiot
All he does it lecture. YOU HAVE TO PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS or you don't pass. I warn you that there is a lot of material to cover in the class which makes this class hard. He is very detailed in his lectures making it easy to take notes but at the same time it is very boring. only take this class if you are ready to study your butt off.
His class is in the format of hearing a lecture for the whole time and then getting a slew of essays to do on the readings for homework. The tests are completing multiple essay prompts within an hour. No extra credit is given whatsoever. If I had known any of this, I would NEVER have taken this class. Save yourself the grief. Please.
You MUST PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS. There are no powerpoints, no notes, and no homework. Otherwise you will fall so behind.
So nasty and arrogant. Stay away
So many dang papers. Why are there so many dang papers?
Please run the other way and never look back. There is so much work in this class that your head will spin! Tests are incredibly difficult. So many essays!!!!!!!!!!
Dynamic, multi-faceted instruction? Hah! He's never heard of it. He just sits on the desk and talks. Ever hear of a Powerpoint or maybe a video or two? Then for the grade it's several essays. That's it. Really made history an unpleasant experience for me. If you can, avoid him--and any of his classes--with all your might.
I really don't understand why he has a smiley face rating on here because that's the last thing I would ever use to characterize his classes. Terribly boring, unpleasant, uninsightful, derogatory, and brutal would be better descriptors.
I thought he was awful in every measure possible. Do NOT take!
Truly a brutal class. Avoid if you can at all costs to keep your sanity and GPA intact.
I've taken HIS1 and HIS2. Show up to class and pay attention and you'll do fine. His lectures are pretty interesting. A few short essays are required, but if you don't wait until last minute to do them, they're pretty simple. Don't skimp on the 60 line requirement, though.
He's a stickler for deadlines and length requirements. If you're under 60 lines, it'll be your head just like Queen Elizabeth.
He is a seriously difficult professor. His lectures are long, and his grading is tough. His paper length requirements will only increase stress for you if you're not careful. Just be sure to listen, pay attention, and write papers to the best of your ability and you should make it out okay.
He discusses eugenics in class, except has little idea of what the concept is. Given the sensitive nature, it should be approached with the utmost care. But not him! He does what he wants; thinks he's a tenured professor. In his dreams.
Seriously difficult class; incredibly painful to endure. Avoid!!!!!!!!!!!
DO NOT TAKE!!!!! I have cried writing his essays too many times. Would not take again if my very life depended on it.
This class made no sense and the work required in the form of numerous essays lacked any meaning whatsoever.
Ohy, was this class a struggle. Unreasonably difficult assignments and professor.
Even if he was the last professor on earth, you should not take any of his classes.
Not so good.
Very doldrum, stickler for deadlines and rules. Essays must be 60 LINES or more and he isn't kidding!
Average prof at best. Really does not give an impression that he cares about students or takes his job with a level of care.
he doesn't hand out quizzes and tests other than the mid term and the final. be prepared to sit through an hour and 2omin of doing nothing but listening.
He's the kind of professor that will make you want to invent a time machine so you can go back in time to not have to take his class!!
Waste of everyone's time.
Doldrum and meaningless course.
You'd be better off hitting yourself in the head with a hammer.
Boring.
It's hilarious how bad this course is!
