Poffesor Tracey has a great personality, funny & charming always ready to say a joke. This class is very hard and he spends lecture time joking and telling stories. One needs to study alone & very hard to pass this class with a good grade. He curves a lot, and gives lots of extra credit.
he get's off topic a lot and everything's pretty much straight from the book. good luck on the exams! READ THE CHAPTERS!
He spends class time telling jokes. Makes his tests from a test bank now. At least he did this semester (Fall 2004). READ the book! He won't teach you anything.
If you decide to take this class as part of your CORE and you're not a bio-major take this guy. Honestly, he's a witty guy who weaves in pertinent material. I haven't opened the book yet and I've gotten A's on two exams thus far w/ lecture notes alone.
You dont really have to bother going to class because he mostly just tells jokes. You have to really be able to study on your own to pass his class. He is really nice and funny tho, and thank God he curves the grades...but he's not very helpful overall.
Tracey is a funny guy... but do not take his class if you actually want to get something out of the classes. To go well on his tests you need to read the chapters because he spends class time telling jokes and goes completely off subject.
I was kind of dissapointed with him. he doesnt help you for the test and sometimes youre staring at it, like wtf? i go to class and all he does is joke around and show pictures
The key to getting an A to his class is not by memorizing but understanding general concepts from the lecture. Keep those in mind when reading the chapters that will be on the test. This guy is very refreashing.
THE THINGS HE TALKS ABOUT IN CLASS ARENT ON THE TEST!...StuDy! but hes funny and a nice guy at the end its a pretty easy class.
dont really have to attend class...test are easy and he curves every test like 15-20 points and he even curves the final grades...easy A if you do decent on the test...just have to read the book
He is a funny guy with a lot of crap to say during class, but very helpful if you get to know him. In other words kiss some ass!
If you actually wanna learn something I definitely DO NOT recommend him...BUT his tests are easy (even if you have no clue what's going on), and he curves all of them. The thing is he spends pretty much the WHOLE class TRYING to be funny! The good thing is you don't really gotta be in class to pass!
hes always cracking jokes. you dont have to go to class but you do have to study for the tests. going to class just puts you to sleep. he does curve on every testr but if you dont do somewhat good on the exams, curving isnt going to help.
study old test
I just started this class, but so far, it seems pretty difficult and I know i'm going to have to study a lot to be able to pass.
I just started this class. So far it's cool and it seems like i'll like the class, i guess i just have to study on my own. haven't met tracey yet though, only pitzer. he's cool though....

cool dude to sit in the class when I was there. Just remember A to C and G to T or A to T and C to G or how ever that thing went.
He gives a HUGE curve...and you get alot of chances for Extra Credit...thing is you have to teach yourself...
Theres no real point in going to class, hardly ever is something he teaches on the weekly quizzes or tests (which are both hard.) He lets you know at the beginning that he fails half the class, the class is about 350 kids before everyone drops. Being that he is th only Biology teacher at FIU, your stuck with him, STUDY and read all the chapters, which are about 20 pages each.
Tracey's funny.....but his quizzes and tests, there no joke
Spends too much time making jokes which are not funny about how he was a rowdy teenager and how men are stupid. Used the same jokes when he guest lectured for my honors course. Doesn't teach much in lecture. Learned more from a substitute when he was out for a week. Make sure you read the book a lot because his tests are not covered in lecture.
Cool guy. Makes lots of jokes in class wich makes the time go by. You HAVE to read the book in order to pass this class. Tests and quizzes are no joke but he gives you plenty of chances o get extra credit. Would not recommend taking this class if not a health science or bio major.
he cracks too many jokes that aren't funny, his tests are hard and the quizzes too, read the book and you should be alright
He is not your traditional-high-school lecturer. The best thing to do is to read the chapter before going to class. That way you can fix the contents in your head by listening to his talk about his favorite enzymes...Going to lecture helps you focus on what to study from the book, but tests are straight from book. Easy class if you read.
Too much material to digest in one semester, Dr. Tracey and his underling Mr. Pitzer do a good job of boiling it down, but I wish there was more time to learn all the material.
This professor is very helpful and clear. However, to get an A, read the chapters before coming to class. Oh yeah, on behalf of him and Mr. Pitzer(Test Coordinator), don't cheat they will catch you.
Tracey is the best
Tracey is a funny guy. He makes his classes fun. The tests are friggin hard. Go to class and study.
He is a nice man, but does not teach the course well. He usually begins to lecture and quickly runs off the subject, always! His notes and lectures are not helpful. If you want to pass the class, make sure to read and KNOW the chapters before and after his "lectures". Also, make sure to do all the EC: PLTL, etc.
Genetics is not an easy subject, so don't expect an "easy" teacher. He doesn't exactly teach very well but he does let you know what you need to read from the book to do good. He is hilarious too.
his notes are good.. but aren't enough to pass the test. you HAVE to read the chapters!!!! and yeah when he teaches he goes off on other random stories most of them NOT funny. do the extra credit bc his test and quizes are very very hard!
His lectures don't help, just read the book and make sure u understand all the material, do the ec, easy class
good professor
boring
He just spoke on and on and on about everything but Genetics. He confuses me. He knows his stuff but I don't think he wants to share it.
He only makes jokes during class. Learning the course depends on you!
Pretty easy for a college bio class, the professor didn't help me much but that was because I wasn't keeping up. Read before going to class so that you can get something out of his lecture. Do the extra credit, it'll relieve some stress, although it isn't necessary no get an A.
Class is pretty easy. Don't go to class...it's pointless. Read the book. Study the quizzes!!!! Do some extra credit and it's an easy A.
He is a really easy going funny teacher. The only problem is when it comes to teaching...he is lacking some necessary skills. His tests are fair...you must go to class to see what will be on the tests otherwise you will be lost as he doesn't cover the entire chapter. There were 3 tests and an optional final. No extra credit.
A great teacher!!!!! Dr. Tracey is very funny and easygoing. His Bio I class is great. =)
Cool teacher!
He is not much of a teacher but his class is easy, if you dont mind reading, almost everything comes from the book, his lectures are pretty much pointless. Although if you do have questions he will help you out.
This class is not easy so if you're lazy dont take him. i personally loved this class, hes really nice and has a really good sense of humor. be prepared to pretty much digest the text book, read before class and print his notes. his tests are not hard if you understand what you read.
He is a very nice guy, and easy to talk to. The only thing is that his lecture notes are straight from the book, and so are his quiz and test questions. For the most part, going to class is pointless but sometimes he does make corrections from the book or lecture notes. He also offers a lot of extra credit which really help you out.
the class is super easy!! as long as you are planning to major in something dealing with science...you dont have to show up to the lectures...just show up the day of the exam having reviewed the chapters that are posted on the website..lots of extra credit to boost you up a whole grade...his jokes are horrible..but makes the class fun.AWESOME CLASS
well the class is interesting if you like science, be prepare to teach yourself and read a lot because his notes are pointless, his test question stray from the quizzes but read all the chapter before hand and you be fine don't wait until the last minute to study and do all the extra credits he offers... funny guy but worthless to go to class.....
this class was extremely easy. keep up w/ the textbook and the quizzes especially. tests are comprised of pretty much all the quizzes. im doing really well in this class. if your a slacker and dont feel like reading, i suggest just studying off the quizzes and u should be fine. Tracey sucks at lecturing so read!
This class is pretty easy. No need to go to class because the lectures are useless. Just read the books, do the quizzes. Tests are based on the quizzes. Easy class!!!!
He is cheesy in a funny way. He knows his stuff, but his lectures are what ever. He is willing to help which is cool, and he offers extr credit. It's not a bad coarse, you can just tell he wants to retire.
Super easy. Do all the extra credit and don't bother going to class. Read all the chapters and study the quizzes. Obviously, if you don't read the chapters, you won't do as well. But as long as you do read them, understand the main concepts, you'll do fine. He also gets most of his test questions from the quizzes.
Very cool teacher, this class demands using your book, a lot for quizzes and such. Easy class and you dont have to go to his lectures if you dont want to but it doesnt hurt to go to a few. Offers extra credit too.
Dr Tracey is a brilliant geneticist. His lectures are meant for reinforcement of the material, not for those attempting to get by just going to class and not studying the material.
Dr. Tracy Martin is a brilliant professor and is always willing to answer questions and help after class. As another student mentioned, his lectures only aid the text and if you do not read the chapters before class you will be lost.
He is alright. Its the text you need to read. He expects you to teach yourself.
his class is very easy! i got an A w/out trying. i never went to class, i just studied the quizzes the night before the tests & i aced them. take him! you'll get a guaranteed A.
Get as many quizzes from your friends and Study the quizzes... they are WORD FOR WORD on the test.. :) 30 POINTS EXTRA CREDIT are possible!!! Easy A
Pretty easy. Don't go to class. Read the book a little, do good on the quizzes and study them, and do the extra credit. You shouldn't get lower than a B.
going to class is pointless but you do have to read.hint: for the exams study the quizes. i switched with tons of people so i had most of the questions.
Going to class is a waist of time. Reading the book doesn't help either, because he does not go by chapters. Your best chance is to study the topics. Dr. Tracey is a very cool person!!!
i took this teacher for BSC1010 & got an A. & than i took this teacher for PCB3063 & got an A again! he's super duper easy. just review over old exams/quizzes from previous yrs & you'll have some of the questions on the exam. trust me, this class was easy!
This professor is a joke. The class revolves around you reading your text and doing quizes BEFORE the lecture on the topic. Basically, you are tested in the material he hasn't even lectured on. Online quizes are HARD and tests are even harder. If you want to pass study in groups and exchange quizes since tests come from them.
This class was easy and the prof. was funny at times. I am surprised so many people hated it, although you do have to read and study. Easy A if you read the book.
To pass the class, all you need to do is read the chapters for the quiz, do good on the quiz, save them, exchange with others the different versions of the quiz, and study off of them for the tests, since he makes them from the quizzes.
lectures are pretty boring. He is smart but he doesnt get his point accross too good. Just do the extra credit and get a group of people to trade quizes becase those questions are on the test. he even says it the first day off class. Just Get all the quiz questions and you should be fine. Readinf the book helps a little.
going to this class is a waste of time,, yea he's funny but what does that have anything 2 do with biology? just do good on the quizes because that is what will be on the exams..so in that sense its not that hard
read your book, study in groups. going to cass i pointless unless you like horrile joke that he tells. boring and the worst thing is you have to teach yourself everything. make sure you do good on th quizes and do all extra redit available. all i can say is read read and read!
This instructor, while humorous, cannot manage a class appropriately. He fails to provide information in a timely manner regarding quizzes and material to cover. He schedules readings, then changes his mind later and does not include them on exams. He gives lengthy, complicated chapters to read with only 2-3 days notice before a graded quiz.
Great Prof! I love him! He tries to be funny so that you don't fall asleep in class. His test are easy if you sudy for them and attend lectures. Adds curves to his tests. U can't fail.
I THINK HE'S A BORING PROFESSOR. DOESN'T KNOW WHAT HE'S TALKING ABOUT AND SOMETIMES JUST READS OFF THE POWERPOINTS. I THINK IT WAS COMPLETELY POINTLESS TO GO TO CLASS. STUDY A LOT BY YOURSELF & READ THE CHAPTERS.
Hard to keep up with, but his tests are not very hard... he curves a lot but you need to read before hand and be on top of things before the tests. 3 tests no midterm no final...
Super boring professor. The lecture is really boring but you don’t have to go to class. The class consists of several quizzes and 3 exams. The quizzes are all online and timed which means you can take it with a bunch of people and help one another. The exams are exactly like the quizzes so study them. There are also extra credit options offered whi
super funny guy, great at making the class interesting but doesn't really cover the material you'll be tested on. its more of he talks about the interesting stuff only. i've taken both general bios and i studied straight from the book both times and got an A easily. READ THE BOOK! tests didn't come from quizzes this semester so don't bank on that.
Ull buy a clicker, but never use it. Attending classes dont help. He basically tells **** jokes and speeds through the slides. Just read the book on ur own and ull due fine on the weekly online classes. Make sure to share quizzes with ur friends, some show up on the tests. Overall, study and dont procrastinate even if u dont get Tracey.
Dont need to go to classes. Share the weekly quizzes with friends b/c some show up on the tests. Read all the chapters and study on time.
I didn't have a strong biology background as others did so the class was somewhat difficult. Rumor has it you're going to need to clickers. Everything is based off the textbook, and I strongly recommend you do all the extra credit available as well as attend PLTL and do well on the quizzes.
He is a nice guy but not a good teacher. This class is revolved on the book. The class isn't that bad as long as you keep up with the reading and go to pltl. There are online quizes that can be taken in groups. Just don't listen to the rumor that the tests come from the online quizes because only a few actually show up on the test.
He's a very strange man. But he's a good teacher. You'll need clickers and to read the textbook, because his lectures are pretty much useless.
He's a crazy old man and his lectures were useless; all he does is make jokes. I wasted $30 on a clicker that we were never able to use. Find a group to study with and do well on the online quizzes, which are fairly easy. PLTL is a great help so try not to miss. Do all this plus the extra credit and you should be fine.
It's pretty useless to go to the lectures since he shows youtube videos the first quarter of class and cracks jokes the next half, and then actually reviews points of interest for about 15 minutes. The class is pretty good and straight forward though. Recommended.
He is a very funny guy ,but it is pointless to go to class because he does not really go in depth of the material. if you really want to pass this class, save your online quizzes and read the book because it is the only way you will learn. BTW, the online quizzes are pretty much the actual test, so beware of trying to know those questions.
Cool guy doesn't really teach but will give some important info during lectures so you should attend, read the book and go to pltl and you should pass with an A+.
it is a useless class, he is hilarious, but never teaches anything, nor does he explain well, DO NOT TAKE IT it makes you hate the subject, and you mostly have to teach yourself
Rethink taking this class with Dr. Tracey. Although he is nice, he doesn't teach. He'll recap the chapters that you have to read, but 99% of the time during lectures, he will do stand up comedy. At the beginning of the semester, all 100 whatever students showed up, and then after 3 weeks, no more than 20 kids showed up for lectures.
DON"T take him. He's a lousy teacher. he doesn't teach
Not a great prof, he doesnt teach so its not much use to go to his class. He tells you important points of the chapter but you can get his notes online. Bio majors have to take his class, form a study group and you'll pass. He makes a lot of pointless funny jokes and stories. I tried to go everyday to class but it was a waste.
He does not teach. He expects you to know what you have read. His lectures consists more of jokes than information. It useless to go to class except on exam days.
Tracey needs to go back to school and learn how to teach. I stoped going to class mid-way. YOU HAVE TO READ, like ur life depends on it! a little hint "save ur quizes"
You learn by yourself in this class. The whole point of this class in my opinion is to grade your ability to learn something without the teacher spoon feading the material to you. The quizzes online are simple if you read ahead. The tests are simply the quizzes but much longer and without any possibility of cheating. The dude is pretty hilarious.
one of the easiest classes i have ever taken. I got a B without even opening the book. The tests contain about 80% of the questions that are on ur quizzes. useless going 2 class because he doesnt even teach. more like a stand-up comedy show. highly recommended
I saw him.... once. Don't go to class. Use that time to read in the library or sleep; anything will be more useful.
He does not know how to teach at all!!!!! READ THE BOOK. Test questions come from quizzes, but you still need to read. DON'T WAIST YOUR TIME GOING TO CLASS!!!!!!!!!
Lecture is useless. You have to teach yourself. Class is not hard. tests are multiple choice and come from the online quizes that are due every week. Gives extra credit but they're time consuming. If you're not good in self studying don't take this class. Time consuming. But you can get an A. Curves when test grades average are under 70%
dont go to class. read read read. take the quizzes and get one of ur buds to print out theres. get a group of about 5 students to give them to you so you have all the possible questions he can throw. and do them. and ur set for exams
Don't go to class. It is a total waste of time! Take that time to read your text book and prepare for the exams which are not too hard. Just take the time to really study and read the chapters. Overall fairly simple. OH and do the extra credit TLC and PASS it will really help you out. =)
Truth be told, you do not need to attend class. Announcements are posted online, his lectures are really optional. It helps to make connections to what you are learning, but really if you read the material on your own and study it, the course is an easy A. He tends to go off topic in his lectures, and is extremely corny.
Useless to go to class because you wont learn anything. Get all the old exams you can and study from there. 3 exams and a final. If you do well on the first 3 the you dont have to take the final. Easy A though....so if you want to learn the forget about Dr. Tracey.
HE IS HORRIBLE!!! TAKE MY WORD!THE WORST PORFESSOR EVER!!! HE HAS MISTAKES IN QUIZES AND REFUSE TO CORRECT THEM, SO IN THE END YOUR GRADE SUFFER!!! DONT TAKE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!
It really depends on what you are looking for in a professor. If you need a professor to hold your hand through the course, he is not the one. I personally love it because I get more from reading on my own. However, a little direction would be great so I know what to really focus on when I'm reading. Going to class is pointless.
You dont have to go to class becuase he reads from a powerpoint you can get online. But you MUST read the bio textbook. thats how you will pass the tests, which really arent that hard [ive only taken one but i aced it and i got straight C's in AP Bio!] there are online 10 question quizzes evry week that are kinda annoying but w.e. oh and theres ex
This guy is a joke. Which is good. He's a comedian type lecturer. Always has a funny story. But useless teacher. The exams are easy. Just read the chapters everyweek for the quizzes and reread the chapters for your exams and you'll get an A. The guy curves. Easy. Take him and don't bother going to classes.
Most people say you don't have to attend the class and that is half true. He does show somethings in class that are not in the book (that are most likely to be on the test). So be careful! He is a good Prof. that likes to tell jokes, but he's very knowledgable of the material. He's fair in grading and if ever you need help he'll be glad to help you
Doesnt teach at all just tells jokes the whole time. Read the chapters and study the quizzes. Do all the extra credits.
Don't need to go to the lectures. As long as you read the book you should be more than fine!!
He doesn't teach in class much. It is your responsibility to read on your own and learn. His tests are difficult and there are quizzes every sunday.
The textbook is your best friend. I was hesitant about this class due to reading some of the comments here, but don't let them scare you. The class is ridiculously easy, exams are curved, easy quizzes every Sunday, and tons of extra credit. Tracey's a joker if you do go to class!
Gave up going to class half way through the semester. Just keep up with the readings and keep your quizzes for the exams. Its all up to you to pass the class!
The WORST teacher at FIU! He doesn't teach and he never even bothers showing up on exam days! His TA runs the show and is really rude. Nothing he says will be on the test is actually on it. His class is a waste of time so don't bother going. This class made me hate biology and change my major. Avoid him at all costs!!!!
This class is intended only for dedicated individuals. The professor really makes no difference. Attendance is not mandatory (unless it's for exams); I went to class 5 times, 3 of which were for exams. I finished with an A+. If you put your part and keep up with the reading and extra credit, you will do great. Slackers, this class is not for you.
doesn't help at all
He tells jokes throughout the lecture. But, um, read the book, do the online quizzes and you'll be fine. You don't have to go to class. I stopped midsemester and came either for tests or when the was nothing to do otherwise. I remember counting at least 70 students when i went one class. You basically have to teach urself. Oh, he's a nice guy......
Dont go to class. Take the time and read and study. I got an "A" in the class but I busted my ass EVERY DAY including weekends. I slept bio, ate bio, dreamed bio, i did not stop. You can't slack off cause you'll be procrastinating the whole time and be back-tracked. He is passable, curved if the class average is under 75, but you need to study!!!
One of the easiest classes I've taken at FIU and I am by no means, a genius. I don't understand these comments about having to study 24/7; just read the chapters, the exams are 50 questions and based on very general information. PLUS there's extra credit. If you can't pass this with an A/B, you are not fit to study medicine.
He is a great person, super funny and friendly BUT I learned nothing in lecture. The notes are posted online so you definitely don't have to go to class. Just read the notes and if you don't understand something, read the book to further understand. But overall, If you have to actually learn and soak in Biology then don't take his class.
Nice guy, hard class, need to study. This class is intended for pre-med students, or at least thats what he said. If you arent intending such a path or a similar one, this class might be hard for you. My greatest advice for you is to be a jerk, a SNIPER, for PLTL. If you dont then you might miss out on it, and you will have to take the final.
No text required but I highly recommend it as some of it helps to explain his notes, but almost everything can be looked up online. I barely studied for the class but I had learned a lot in BIO I so I had a great background, a lot of it was just review! I say go to class, some things he mentions aren't in notes, ON PURPOSE. He's a funny character
Take this class with him! Make sure you get as many old exams as possible and don't just memorize them, but actually understand the questions because he changes them up a little sometimes. I ended up with a B because I did bad on 1 exam, and I slept through the final which was my makeup. No point in going to class at all.
No book required, true, but maybe worth to buy it because he's extremely unclear in his ppts. "ok" professor. i expected to learn so much more in evolution than wht i did, test are a lil tricky but doable. Good Luck!
Ignore the ones that say this class is hard. Its true, he dosent teach but so what! His tests are directly from the textbook. So do this to pass: dont go to class, read, study from the book, and attend PLTL. There are 10 points of extra credit (for the class) and a 10 point curve on every exam. Also many people recommend him for genetics ",
He does not follow anything. Tests are exactly the same as previous semesters. If you have them, great, if not, you can easily fail.
Super nice prof., loves his students, very funny! Context of class is difficult but if you have any questions you can visit him at his office hours he will help you
If you want to learn, don't take him.
He is not the best person at lecturing but an interesting class. He will challenge you to think outside the textbook and you will learn interesting things. You don't need to attend class for the tests. His test aren't difficult and are straight from the book. PLUS: he doesn't make you memorize dumb details.
super slack, dont listen to everyone saying its hard. just dont go to class and read straight from the book. curves all your grades up. easy A. just be ready to become bestfriends with your book.
You might as well sleep in and teach yourself from the book. You won't learn anything from him. As he says, "My job is to confuse you more about what you already know [about science]". waste of money, cause i just paid to not learn jack. pltl and study groups help though, but you won't get anything from him. he also brings his daughter to class -.-
Don't think he's going to cut ur meat, chew it & then feed it to u. That is not his way. Go to class & just listen. Get the old test but don't rely on them only! Get the book & use it to supplement the slides. Just be prepared to do some work on ur own! If ur whining b/c he makes u think & work for yourself then that's YOUR problem not his!
Best teacher at FIU!! Super fun to listen to, has a great sense of humor. Also, his tests are really really easy, the answers are usually in the questions. You just need to read them carefully. And the final's optional!
You don't learn by going to class. but if you really read the book and get help from the power points, an A is very possible. its a bio class, its not supposed to be easy, but this is the best prof to have for it.
I like this professor. You dont have to go to class but his lectures are fun to listen to and he has great videos for us to watch. You must read the book and get past exams!!!! Not that hard to get an A.
This guy is a horrible teacher. Out of a typical 50 minute class you might get 20 minutes out of actual material that is important, the rest is filled with bad jokes and pointless stories. The average score on the first test was a 60, only 4 people had over an 80. He doesn't explain the concepts well so you walk out confused.
Totally useless. Doesn't follow any order in teaching, pp's or syllabus. Talks about whatever he feels like. You have to teach yourself. Doesn't say what chpts to study & test question come from anywhere in the book. Tests are purposely misleading. Makes constant grading errors and says "Even if you are correct, I still won't change your grade"
Don't waste your time or gas money going to class. He doesn't teach, tells bad jokes and stories. The book is "optional", but Tracey probably thinks teaching is also optional. He brings his 8 y/o daughter to class, and she is a constant distraction. Average test scores are 60% this semester. Take if you want bad joke, not if you want to learn.
Do not waste your time taking Gentics with this teacher. Some of the questions are from old exams, but a bunch are not. You will not learn anything in this class and the average test scores have been 60's for the first 3 tests this semester. 50 minute class riddled with bad jokes, and very little actual teaching. If you want an A, go elsewhere.
Today we didn't learn about genetics, but tracey did tell us that we can use high heels to hammer in nails and we heard stories about him drinking beers with his gay friends. he should not be called a professor, but a bad stand up comic. i hope there is no genetics on the MCAT. he also brings his hyper active daughter to class on a regular basis
You will either love him or hate him, no in-between. I took this class as an elective because I wanted to learn about genetics, BIG mistake! Not an easy A, even with copies of old exams which many questions are the same, I am still not at an A. Tests are purposely misleading and extremely vague. Proceed with caution, you have been warned!
His lectures are quite interesting, but he doesn't really teach. You must find and study past exams and go over everything from his PowerPoints. Use the text book to clarify notes from his PowerPoints. There are 5 multiple choice exams and 1 optional final exam. Take him if you want to easily get a good grade, but you might not learn much Genetics
if you are a BIO major, GENETICS is a must. It was an early class but Prof Tracey made class interesting. I enjoyed his lectures and the fact that you have the option to take the final, is great. I loved this class, you should take Tracey!
I had the unfortunate pleasure of taking Tracey for Genetics, and the unfortunate pleasure of taking him again for Evolution. It's a three hour class filled with 2 1/2 hours of bad stories and a 15 minutes break. YAWN!
Why won't this guy teach?? I don't care about his stupid & useless stories! Evolution could be an interesting class, but this guy only tells bad jokes/stories. Is FIU so hard up for professors?? I don't get it. Unfortunately, he is the only "teacher" to "teach" evolution.
Very hard class,he doesn't teach anything. You have to study everything from the book.
He's a very nice guy but he does NOT teach!! so far the class average of around 800 students has been in the 60's..how is that possible?!!His tests are difficult and he throws in questions that have nothing to do with what were even studying..if you can, do NOT take him!!!Horrible!=(((
His tests are ridiculous. You have to remember the randomest details and it's based on 5 HUGE chapters. The class average is a 60 on every test, he does curve your grade so even if you pull of straight Cs and pass your quizzes you can get a low A/high B. He is SUPER boring and gets off topic a lot.
THE WORST. Does not teach, you have to read 5 very long, detailed chapters all on your own. Being a bio major is alot of work and i didn't mind having to teach myself but what i did mind were the exam questions that were re-written in the most difficult way. The class average was in the 60's and all he does is talk about his daughter and colleagues
This professor is a beast! His exams are extremely easy! Show up to all of his lectures and listen to everything he says and all the movies he plays in class.
This professor is by far the most uncouth, unprofessional and lackluster instructor I have ever encountered. His comments, when they are not obviously inappropriate, border it. His lectures are futile and his exams are weighed down by trivial details. For example, Genome sequencing is correlated, associated, or connected to...Do not take!
The class is definitely doable but by the end of the first test your interest in the class is so damn low it's hard to even get up the nerve to try. This guy is really not the best teacher out there; he doesn't teach, he rambles. The fact that he gives a ton of point at the end and the final is sort of optional gives you an idea of how sucky he is.
He has a salty mouth. He goes off into upper division course tangents in a lower division course all the time. Only 25 out of 300 students ended up going to his lectures at one point. He had to put a curve so that the whole class wouldn't fail. I don't think I learned Biology at all in his course, sorry...
This professor is not very nice to students and can be rude at times. He does not make biology very interesting. I did not learn much. All of his lectures consist of reading powerpoints so the class is pretty much self-taught. You must read the book in detail to get a good grade. The exam questions can be tricky. Average test score was 60.
he is a nice guy but going to class is pointless, the tests are extremely hard and detailed. if you like teaching yourself and dedicating ALL your time to his class take him. if not keep away.
This prof. does not teach at all!!! BUT at the end of the semester he gave everyone 10 POINTS (a whole letter grade)after the final grade was gotten. I had a 75% but with his 10 pints I ended up with a B as my final grade...Class was SUPER hard so STUDYyyy & SLEEP!!!
He is a terrible professor. never even talked about the subject material except for genetics, because he is a geneticist. he is obviously not interested and makes his tests extremely hard and detailed. plus he asks random questions not related to biology that you could only know if you went to class which is not mandatoy. thumbs down.
very disorganized class, he does not teach the class, its the students who actually prepared ppt presentations the whole semester. he will prob lecture once or twice.gives extra cred opportunities. exams are a little too detailed.
Take him if you study on your own by reviewing videos on youtube about the subjet and by reading the pp.The book is useless because he does not use it.Go to all private clutch reviews, google it on facebook. I passed w/t a B but really had a C.
If you can teach yourself, then take the class if not then I really don't recommend him.Didn't like how he would go off on stories about his life & stuff.Doesn't use the book everything is on a pp online.Tests are super detailed & hard.
This guy is a mess on the way out...He doesn't require a book, but his powerpoints are so bad at one point I thought his daughter wrote them. The way to pass this class is to find as many of the old tests and study variations of the questions on them
i have never met a teacher that was sooo HORRIBLE. they say as long as u have his old exams u will b good but even then it barely helps in class. he does not teach, just tells bad jokes. he says not to get the book but his ppts are crap!! A 10yr old could do a better job at making them. don't EVER take this professor.he's worthless!!!
i took him over a summer he posted his previous tests for us and many questions came from there. test do go into detail but he helps you out by giving you exam questions
Must attend since no textbook. Relatively entertaining interesting speaker. Slides posted but not adequate to get an A. Huge curve (75% A, 50% C). Gives old exam ?s but not answers and puts maybe 1/2 of them on exam. As a group solving old exams we got many wrong - don't trust others, make sure you are right because you will see these ?s again.
Took him for evolution. Super nice guy and he definitely tries to make the class interesting. He gives you old exams. I would say 40% of your exam will come from some exam. He doesn't give you the answers so figure them out and talk to other people and also see him to verify. I took him summer A and got an A so def doable!
His class is pretty easy to do well in so long as you are willing to read the material on your own. He doesn't cover much material in lecture straight out of the book; he expects you to have read it and be able to follow along with his real life applications/examples. The exams are not so bad if you've actually read the text/ppts and studied.
Read and study the book and powerpoints and you'll get an A. Attendance is optional so don't bother going to class. He once said he loves his job because he doesn't feel like he's working, but that's because he isn't working. Tracey doesn't teach. He goes off topic and tells inappropriate stories and he thinks he's funny but he's not.
General Bio is not as hard as people make it out to be. And even though Tracey doesn't teach at all, and spends the majority of his time talking about his daughter, or his ties, his tests are pretty easy. Just make sure to re-read the chapters, go to PLTL!!! Also, doing the optional Connect program helps alot too, got 100 on Exam 1 and 90 on Exam2
Awesome
A complete beast. He is the best professor at FIU. I never went to class, only 5 easy tests and THATS IT!!! finished with a 110 average. You rarely need to use the book because everything comes from his power points. GPA booster 4 sure.
He is the most disrespectful professor ever he will not answer to your questions, tests have nothing to do with the material, he doesnt use a text book, he is irresponsible, and studying doesnt pay off. He would hang up on you and ask you to talk to your friends when you have a question, I know we dont have much choice but dont take him if possible
Tracey does NOT teach genetics. I repeat, does NOT teach genetics. I have a B in the class but I did not learn a damn thing. I went to class everyday when the semester started but stopped because he does not say anything educational in class. Read the powerpoints that's all you will need in his class to get a DECENT grade in the tests.
The class is mainly you teaching yourself. You have to read 5 long chapters for each test, and even at that that doesn't mean you'll do well. If you don't have a major interest in bio. or aren't very good in it take another professor because he is no help and expects you to teach yourself everything.
Take with someone else, you might learn something that might be of use to you later on. No book is used. Wasted $60 on mastering and it wasn't even accounted for. This class is a joke. Let's leave it at that.
This class really was left to be taught by yourself rather than the teacher. He was not very clear. There was extra credit which is a must and so is pltl. Class consisted mostly of bad jokes and rambling about irrelevant information. If you really study yourself you can get a passing grade.
Good professor but tests are entirely book based! The last 2-3 questions may be lectured based but not to hard to figure out. I would go to class anyway especially if you need to takes genetics (he is the geneticist and is one of the main genetics teachers at FIU). Exams are mostly book based. Did curve (not to sure how much though).
Very easy, exams come straight out of the book and old tests. I didnt show up to class past the first week but I got an A. I recommend him over the other biology teachers. I am taking genetics with him now , lets see how that goes
Horrible, do not take him for genetics. Exams had random questions never seen before, he doesn't use the book at all and his lectures are about his life not about genetics. He makes you waste money with Mastering genetics and we only used it once. Passed the class but had to be constantly going to his office, because you never know what to expect.
Tracey is a horrible professor who has very easy tests. He is somewhat funny but there is no need to show up to class. Just make sure you read the book and youll get an A.
Horrible teacher. He doesnt give u a specific book. His teaching is very broad not specific to the material on exams. doesnt make the class interesting. My advice do not take him. If you are not going to be a good teacher then focus on something else because it isnt fair to students.
Although Tracey does not teach much, he compensates for it with easy exams and a ridiculous curve. If you go to office hours he's always more than willing to help you. Try to do his old exams and you will get an A.
TRACEY DOES NOT TEACH!!! For the love of God avoid this teacher, unless you want to read 5+ chapters per test all by yourself. He does not curve like the other bio professors and his exams are certainly not as easy as people are saying. Apparently many people had the old exams, but those are not made available. (Take PLTL)
He is not a good prof by any means. His notes and his exams dont have much in common. People have to go to the internet to search for the answers to the old exams. Exams are VERY random and TRICKY. Good thing is if you get an A in the final, u get an A in the class. TAKE ALL THE EXAMS! even if you do bad in them, if u miss one, the final wont help.
Tracey is very knowledgeable and many ppl feel that he doesn't teach. His class can be tedious, but if you hold on no matter how bad you've failed exams, he does give you the opportunity to pass with a unique grading scale. I didn't do well on the exams, but managed to get a B on the cumulative final, plus he added a curve, so I got an A at the end
Tracey is eccentric. That is certain. Class is tedious and generally not worth it. However, he really helps his students with his grading scale (don't ask. It just works out in the end) and is a brilliant mind behind all the jokes he cracks. I managed an A and didn't even need the optional Final. Study old exams! You can do well
I took Tracey for PCB 3063 (Genetics), PCB 4663 (General Human Genetics), and PCB 4674 (Evolution). Evolution was 3 tests and 1 final. Studied from old exams, got As on the first 2 tests and was exempt from the third and final. Human Genetics was open laptop. All classes were really easy, just look for old exams and pay attention in class.
He's hilarious, always cracks jokes and wants everyone to pass. Our tests were open notes and open laptop! Taken him for 3 dif classes and never got lower than a B-. Got an A in this class, as long as you try and do well or average he will see that and give you a higher grade due to your best test scores. Attendance not mandatory, Take him!
Tracey is more into Genetics than he is Biology, so understanding the class may be hard. He's hilarious, and overall a really nice man. Just read the chapters before and after class and you'll be fine. QUIZZES ARE ON THE CHAPTER YOU LEARNED IN CLASS AND THE ONE YOU WILL GO OVER NEXT CLASS, SO READ!
Worst teacher at FIU. Idk what everyone here is talking about. You'll only pass if you have old test banks. Reading the book is pointless, his lectures are pointless, and he tries really hard to be funny but fails miserably.
the extra credit provides a safety net, the average of 2nd test was no lower than a 70, first test was higher. you have to read the book, he does not teach much. take pltl to avoid taking final exam. exams seemed to me straight to the point.
He does not teach at all. All he does is crack jokes the entire lecture. Avoid him at all costs or be prepared to make that textbook your best friend.
You can either love or hate Tracey. He knows a lot, but his lectures are not intense. Like me, you would need to literally eat the book to get A's. 4 exams, 1 final that is replaceable with PLTL. Quiz every week on the chapters. If you read & learn from the book, you will be fine. Such a nice guy though ! Always wants to make his students succeed
He' a nice guy & class is not mandatory. His lectures honestly have nothing to do with subject much. You need the book and every extra credit in order to pass. I dropped the class after the first exam. I'm deff. not taking this professor next time.
People who complain about him usually want an A without working for it. Keep you.. you're in college. Stay on top of material and go to lecture and you'll be fine. He tells you hints to exams and gives out extra credit questions if you go to class. Got an A. Dr. Tarcy is an example of what a professor should be!
Very nice guy, but doesn't teach much. Class is not mandatory, seeing as how he doesn't do much but talk about his wife and daughter during class. You pretty much have to teach yourself the material (reading the textbook and watching youtube videos is how I passed this class)
Only went to class once a month to take the exams, got an A. Just make you sure read the 25 long and detailed chapters by yourself. Take PLTL.
This is without a doubt the easiest class out of all the bio 1 lectures. His exams include questions that can be answered simply by reading the chapters. Lecture is absolutely NOT mandatory. He doesn't even do clicker questions so don't expect extra credit from there. Just do PLTL and the other extra credits offered and you'll be fine.
Tracey is so nice, and an overall great guy, but his lectures do not help. I went to all of them just to get good parking, but I hardly ever payed attention. I'm lazy, and I hate biology, but if you read the book you will get an A in this class, no doubt. He doesn't understand clickers so don't worry about it. Do PLTL!!
He is a nice person and is quite entertaining so class is not completely boring. However, his lectures do not help, but he'll post them online anyways. As long as you have the book and take the time to read you should be fine. There are online quizzes every week for 2 chapters. Do PLTL to avoid the final, it'll save your life!
Tracey is a trip. I only went to class about 2 times and for the exams. I don't know what people are talking about when they say they used the book. His tests and the answers are completely off of what tracey thinks, and god knows what that is. Visit him during office hours and get him to remember you by name. You'll be fine.
I have no idea where this guy gets his questions from. I think I learned more about his daughter than I did about actual biology. He's very rude. If you can help it, don't take him! Take PLTL. You're gonna need it.
Tracey is a good professor. I was able to pass his tests mainly because of his office hours and how helpful he was so for sure go to them!
Don't even think about taking Bio with him. On the first day of class he said, "I get paid to come here and do nothing but crack a few jokes, you guys have to do all the work." Going to his lecture is pointless all he does is talk about his daughter or talk about old stories about his past. Stay away from Tracey!
He does not teach at all. I did not attend class and still got an A. He's a terrible teacher but his tests are really easy as long as you read the textbook. He tries to help students independently but do not rely on him or his lectures!
Tracey is a nice guy and helpful in his office hours, but his lectures suck. You won't learn much. But, his online quizzes and tests come straight out of a test bank so just read the chapters and study the test bank, and do PLTL to opt out of the final, and you'll get an A.
He is intimidating to talk too. Don't expect to learn too much from him because he continuously goes off topic or is talking about biology that will not be on your test. He cracks all of jokes especially about women. He is very hard to take seriously and the tests are easy if you have the test banks.
Human Gen , just show up to class and pay attention. 3 exams and drops one.
It's not just about memorizing his old exams, you have to understand the concept behind each question. He has a unique sense of humor which many people dislike, but if you're going to a class to blame a mediocre academic performance on the teacher's personality, you're a moron. Relatively easy class as long as you try at least a bit.
Attendance is futile. The class is pretty easy, but if you really want to learn he doesn't actually teach well at all.
Easier to get an A in this class than it is to actually learn something about genetics
attendance is useless. He is mean when you visit him during office hours. Don't take PLTL, everyone gets credit for it regardless! He never talks about anything in his lecture that has to do with the exams. I got a B only because i did CLUTCH. just avoid.
He's a good guy with a pretty entertaining personality. He doesn't teach thoroughly and gets off topic a bit, so you have to study on your own. But overall, I'd take him again.
Tracey is a really nice guy, but horrible when it comes to actually teaching. His lectures start on track and not fifteen minutes into it he goes completely off track and tells you his life story. The answers to his quizes are all online. Test banks and CLUTCH are a must. You'll probaly learn more from Bio Lab than in his lectures.
Tracey seems like a great person to get to know outside of the classroom. While in class though he easily & frequently goes off topic to tell stories and jokes. You can tell he is extremely smart but is so poor at explaining the material. Won't learn about genetics; do CLUTCH if you want to actually learn and get an A in the class.
lectures are not mandatory, tests are easy. highly recommend.
No need going to class, he talks about useless stuff. I passed with the help of Clutch, I'm sure class helps a bit. He's funny and if you're sensitive don't take it to heart. He has tests graded a few hours later. Gives a huge curve, probably because the averages are always in the 60s. Jokester, but clutch taught me everything.
I only showed up to take the exams and got an A in the class. You will not learn Genetics with Tracey, he doesn't teach. His class is basically a space for him to socialize with other people. He is a nice funny guy, but not exactly a professor. If you really want to learn Genetics, you'll have to study on your own. Study, do Clutch and pass :)
Horrible professor. You won't learn anything here.
If you really want to learn BIO , then don't take him. He's the easiest from all the other teachers but if you don't know anything about bio, then you wont learn much. Attandence isnt mandatory , repeats the corny jokes all the time, but he is always there for you. poor guy tried his best teaching me but no success.
Got an A. Tracey has 5 Exams, not including the Final (optional). He gives extra credit questions on every test. Attendance is not mandatory. Your best bet is to Clutch.
Hardest teacher ever let me tell you. Going to his lectures alone will not help you pass unless you're some wizard genius that rides around campus on a unicorn. He doesn't teach very well or often he usually talks more about his life or colleagues and it's not helpful at all. Any Other teacher is better than him. I'm currently drowning.
You'll have to understand him for the person he is. If you're sensitive and easily offended, chances are you won't appreciate the comedy. His lectures can be helpful and office hours are made easily available. Read and you'll understand his lectures much more.
Tracey does not do a good job when it comes to teaching. He frequently goes off on a tangent about a story he has (which is usually not funny) or talking about his colleagues and does so for five minutes or more. What's even worse is that he does not do a good job at explaining the material. And he does not believe in using textbooks.
He's not a good teacher, good person though and kinda funny. He tries to confuse you a lot on the exams and sometimes gives the wrong answers on reviews. Even then, if you do clutch you can easily get an A especially because he curves and has a resurrection final.
Rudest professor I've had at FIU. He is funny but when it come down to helping students forget about it. His exams are confusing, more than they should be and his powerpoints are semi helpful. I passed with an A but surprisingly. Be careful you don't want to end up on his S list. 5 exams multiple choice. optional final It can only help you not hurt
I really didn't like him. He's got a huge ego, and really not helpful. Rarely stays on topic, treats the class like a joke. Don't try to argue anything, you won't get anywhere and he will threaten your grade. He's not that hard once you learn how to take his tests. His classes isn't about learning genetics, its about learning his tests. Take Clutch
Doesn't lecture on anything relevant to the class, powerpoints are useless, the only reason I passed was because of clutch. The only good thing is he curves. His cumulative final was unnecessarily hard. Overall not a great professor, but can't avoid taking him for genetics at MMC. No textbook, so use Clutch and you'll pass!
5 test, he gives practice test with the answers if u show up to lecture. The test are almost exactly the same. Easiest course I have ever take. And he curves the final grade.
does not teach in class but self teaching is nearly impossible because his powerpoints are a scattered mess. Also no book which makes self teaching even harder. Do clutch or get a teacher that will actually teach genetics
Professor Tracey is awesome for Evolution! The grade was composed of 3 exams and an optional final! He gives you some of his old exams to study from (super helpful), but you may want to ask around for some of his even older exams (many of the same questions still showed up)! The curve was insane (total 75 questions... 58+ out of 75 was an A)!!!
He is not bad at all. As long as you know how to study on your own you'll be fine. His test can be challenging but he curves a lot. Don't expect to be spoon fed with him, you must teach yourself, if you lack this skill then don't take him, unless your okay with a B.
Took Tracey for Genetics and Evolution and got a B in both. He is always willing to help you if you go to him. Tracey provides you with old exams so study off them and it will help!! He has helped me so much and if I could, I would definitely take more classes with him! Love Tracey!
Prof Tracey is my favorite. I took Genetics and Evolution with him and got an A on both classes. He gives old exams and if you get other exams from previous classes there's no way you cant fail his class. I never went to class but i went to his office hrs n it worked. Have a good relationship with him n you will do great. Taking him for human gen
I learned more by staying home and teaching myself than attending lecture. Material is boring and he makes it uninteresting. Clutch helped! However, if you need help he will help you, just good luck trying to understand his explanations. Take him if you want a decent grade, but don't want to learn. Take someone else if you want to learn genetics.
He is a great professor with a lot of knowledge. Attendance is not mandatory but it will pay off to show up. His stories are the best and he is there to help if your willing to ask for it. You won't just learn genetics because he likes to teach the class little facts across his lectures. I would recommend him.
The lectures aren't helpful at all, since you have to filter so much just to get to the 2 minutes that actually matter. Don't try reading the powerpoints since they're scattered and don't make sense. Clutch is the way to go, or see him in his office hours.
This professor does not teach, you must learn on your own. He does not require a text book so form study groups early and buy clutch! I would say more but we have to be professional so that alone should say enough! I passed with flying colors.
Some people want grades handed to them and Tracey won't do that!!! study from his videos and previous test! YOU WILL MAKE IT I PROMISE!
THIS MAN DOES NOT TEACH! he's lectures are just an hour of jokes, and him talking about his family and friends, WARNING: HE REPEATS THE SAME JOKES MORE THAN ONCE! the class is empty because it doesn't matter if you go or don't, you won't learn!
I didn't go to class, I didn't do CLUTCH, I didn't attend office hours. I studied his powerpoints and the old exams a day before the exam and passed with an A. It's not that hard, his powerpoints actually do make sense if you take the time to read them and write notes on them.
Professor Tracey has a very unique sense of humor , he is knowledgeable about the subject material and always tries to make correlations between what he is teaching and improvements in science. Tracey only has 4 exams and a final, the exams are fairly difficult so make sure to study or get tutoring before exams. He offers PLTL so take advantage !
He usually gives out old exams and you can study from those. The test will have some of the same question as previous test. He does not ask for a textbook but he says that you can use any genetic textbook. Youtube videos help alot with the topics that he goes over in class. Follow the syllabus he truly sticks to it. He give hints for his exams
Tracey is a pretty subpar professor. He definitely knows his stuff, but if you go to class, all you're going to hear about it how he likes to drink and his personal adventure stories. Getting an A is pretty easy though. Don't show up to class at all. Just do CLUTCH and you'll be good. I did and got A's on all the tests.
TEST BANKS! That's all you need. If you want to learn take someone else. (Really smart guy though)
I love tracey as a professor and person. He can be all over the place with his lectures but you still learn some interesting stuff. You have to work for your A, cause genetics can be difficult sometimes but tracey is always willing to help. Towards the end of the semester he gives freebies but you have to go to class to know the random q/a.
Great guy personality wise. He knows his stuff and he pulls from personal experience in the field but he will tell you the same stories 10x during the semester. The class is really easy as long as you study the old exams, but this also means you won't learn much because the tests are word for word from the previous exams.
Test Banks and come for clicker points. That's all I have to say.
How Dr. Tracy is still allowed to teach is a mystery. This man brings up relevant topics in class but is just not an educator. His knowledge on the topic is undoubted, his ability to teach is a different story. If your GPA matters, take him because he is a guaranteed A with Clutch. If you wanna learn, maybe another teacher might do.
Cool dude, seriously. But you have to pay for clutch if you want to pass this class. He is the king about random tangents. Emails are on point though. The good thing about his class is that the final can replace all of your previous grades. If you fail all tests and pass the final, you will pass the class.
he cares if you talk to him over the semester. Do clutch and learn the general concepts, you will do great, he gives extra credit in every tests so make sure to try to get the max points in the easy tests, dont rely on the final, it is HARD! He truly cares if he meets you.
If you want to boost your gpa take him for genetics. He gives you his old exams which are similar to the test but he will throw some extra questions which are very hard. If you do clutch you can get an A in the class. Final is optional which is the best part about his class. Five tests, try to do good on them so you won't have to take the final.
he is a very good professor .he gives extra credit in every tests so make sure to try to get the max points in the easy tests, dont rely on the final, it is HARD! He truly cares if he meets you. take him! I took him for genetics , Evolution and human genetics i GOT A in all
Professor Tracey is so confusing and especially in evolution and genetics. He makes no sense so to those taking evolution good luck! Because there will be a lot of information to absorb and learn during the summer. I would take it with another professor. He's funny but I would rather learn than laugh
Professor Tracey is the worst professor I have ever taken. I passed the class but I learned nothing and it angers me that I learned nothing. He gives extra credit in his exams and the 10% evaluation is the curve he uses for the entire class. His final was similar to the exams but he doesn't teach in class. I passed by using clutch.
Hilarious professor that doesn't demand a lot. He knows the material well but gets sidetracked in lectures so a lot of learning has to be done on your own time if you want to do really good. Use CLUTCH.
This class is a nightmare to take if you can't find the right hook ups to give you the study guides. He literally doesn't teach at all. I stopped going to lectures and started studying from the book and study guides. I ended up getting a B in his class. PLTL will help so much, take it! Even if it's annoying. I had to go to my sessions on Saturdays.
Love Dr Tracey! A caring, professional and learned professor. One of the best at FIU.
