get a translator, your text could be summed up in one paragraph, stop reading
If he could teach, he wouldn't have to bell the marks from a 33% to a 70% avg!
Seems like a nice guy, but lecture material and text is confusing and our heads.
Didn't enjoy the course due to teaching style.
nice guy who uses amusing analogies; could pick up the pace.
All i have to say is: The text is written exactly the way he speaks!
Really nice guy, sometimes a little boring

Monotone voice is very hard to pay attention to. Good sense of humour though.
His class, along with his textbook, is a joke
he helps us understand physics in a historical perspective
No Comments
Very boring, I only go to class for the multiple choice questions.
Zinkster, I thought you said the exam was gonna be easier. I had no friggin time
Really cares about our futures, all those guest speakers! That was helpful!

nice guy, too smart for his own good

so cute
worst teacher/classDO NOT TAKE IT...IT IS A joke but still, it is the worst
useless class, nothing is relevant, I am very displeased with it. and the lab component is very grueling
a very misunderstood person in general. i feel sorry for him trying to talk over the class. classes are directly from the notes. Easy midterm, allowed a cheat sheet, bell curved the marks. you can skip this class and still ace the tests.
Martin ZzzzZzzzzzzzZZzzzinke-Allmang. Enough said.
Class was irreleivant. Was supposed to be Physics for the life sciences, but exams, tests and labs had nothing to do with biological physics. Very disappointed.
Well, he talks very monotone and he turns the lights down really low so it's almost impossible to stay awake. He allows a cheat sheet and bell curves the marks which is nice. You don't need to go to class, just tutorial and study for the midterms.
This course was a joke! If you are looking for high marks then take this class, but don't expect to learn anything. Going to class was pointless and labs/tutorials just increase your mark even higher. Also talks monotone and is a great place to get sleep.

Picture an older more cynical sarcastic version of Arnold Swartzenegger. Hard to understand at times, but if you listen carefully and everyone in your class shuts their mouth for 30 seconds he makes suttle jokes about the stupidity of humanity.
OK. HIS TEXTBOOKS SOUND AS IF HE WERE TALKING TO YOU...INO HE WROTE THEM...BUT STILL...ITS STRANGE...AND HIS TEXTBOOKS ARE HARD TO LEARN FROM.
i went to 2 classes in 2nd term and it was my best mark in first year. this class crushed my passion for physics.
Best class ever. I missed an entire month worth of class before the mid-term and still got an 80. It's so easy it scares me. And he's hilarious when he gets off topic.
He's intelligent, friendly and thanks the class at the end of every lecture.
I don't mind him.. he's hard to understand at times and can get really boring. In my opinion, there's nothing in this course u can't learn on your own, class is more ot less pointless. just keep up with the hw and go to labs and tutorials and u'll kill the course.
Zinkie is a good guy. He clearly designed the whole "physics for the life sciences" courses at Western and they scream Zinkie is many suttle ways. But he is fair, and the course gives you what you need to tackle that MCAT physics with confidence.
We spent the entire class laughing at how he pronounced words...and still got great marks.

what a genuine person! He's really kind, and will help after class, as well as on webct. He cares about his students. The thing is...he's hard to understand. I think his accent is a mix btw english and german...pheeno-mena is right. (that was my entertainment from the class) easy course, and class not needed, but zinke is there for you none the les
An Awesome proff
Phay-no-may-na. Easiest course you'll ever take.
good man love the german accent
nice man, works hard to make things easier for the students. however the course is extremely boring, easy, but boring.
Great man. His accent makes the class a bit less boring. He really makes a great effort and ensures that students achieve a good mark.
This man makes me laugh so much - but many people do not catch on to his jokes [since most are falling asleep due to the boring physics material]. Great guy.
A great prof.
Zinke is a god among men! By far the nicest prof of all of my first year prof's. Both courses (028/029) are fairly easy...for those going into either or both next year (or in later years), test and exam material is almost entirely textbook material, be prepared!
Umm... hard to understand?
He rambles about cheetas and lions running up trees and always manages to ramble about German folklore or history which is very amusing and funny. He's a great guy but physics should be taught physically, not with biology in mind. It's a stupid course (both are equally stupid and boring) and the textbook is absolutely terrible. Good guy, badeasycour
The accent is irritating and confusing. Gets sidetracked easily. Pay attention to his practice exams and old exams, because he repeats them on the exam. Textbook is terrible. The course is new and needs a lot of work. But it is simplified, compared to other physics courses, and if you make good exam sheets, you'll be fine
decent prof, tends to ramble, and textbook is pretty terrible. the method for evaluation this year was a joke (unit tests=free marks)
Easiest course ever....I failed one of the midterms, and thought I failed the final....yet I got an 80 final - definite bellcurve...as I'm not one of those students who ace anything.
made the course easy to get a good grade!
oh man, very funny to listen to, but not the strongest prof out there. part of the problem is the course - it is very, very poorly designed and his team teacher, Mittler, only makes it worse! he is always willing to help his students and is very approachable. the exams are very strange, with most of the question types brand new! just take physics 0
hes a good prof, but honestly, if you try to pay attention in class you cannot understand through the accent. very nice guy though, cares about his students.
Seems like a genuinely nice man and I appreciate him showing his "human" side. I do find that I have had to teach everything to myself as the lectures aren't overly helpful. This class would be much better if Western would spring for some T.A.s!
genuinely nice guy with great sense of humour and funny stories. Makes physics fun to go to, except the accent is a little thick you have to really pay attention to be able to understand, and the lecture slides are often very confusing with lots of greek.
Terrible teacher. His accent is barely understandable, and he goes on random tangents that last the whole class. Since the whole course is based directly on the textbook, going to class is a total waste of time.
Boring and simple!
More interested in the clicker than teaching actual physics...and OMG SHUT UP DURING OUR QUIZZES! The man talked all through the entire test! Nice man but NOT ment to teach 900 people Physics
He's a nice guy. The problem I had with his class was that he is a poor teacher and in order to do well on the final or mid-term you are pretty much required to take the supplementary course. So you could skip every single class take the supplementary course and learn everything you need to know. AH it makes no sense...
physics 028/029 was not what i expected the course to be, the content was pretty stupid and the txtbook wrote in such a way i wanted to pull out my hair and eat it when studying, but beyond that zinke tried his hardest, class was easy tho in the end (got 90s) lectures rnt mandatory cause u can learn from the txt beware weird wordin during tests tho
Test wording is terrible and ambiguous. In no way does any lecture or book prepare you for the awkward nature of his tests.
a nice guy, you can see that he really tries hard and cares about his students but he was never meant to be a prof. every1 just talks in class and he doesn't bother telling people to shutup. the textbook is useless, class is meaningless and you basically have to learn everything yourself! so unless you took physics in high school, you're screwed.
Aw Zinke...such a nice man and it always made me feel so awful when people didn't listen to him in lectures. I'll admit he was kinda brutal to listen to, but he still deserved a bit more respect than what he got. Material is basically self-taught & although the majority of the course is decent, be prepared for a rude awakening with the final =|
poor zinke, no one cares..everyone talks all the time, and give him no respect during his lectures...students need to grow up! he's very nice, if u talk to him in person...if u need help, he will help u...i recommend him
Took in my second year to transfer. No interest level first. But ended up 98%. Just read book. Oh, and if you are writing MCATs, PAY ATTENTION: This course actually helped A LOT! Other than that...blah don't go to class...
He really tries, unfortunately, people don't take him seriously and sometimes his lectures are a little unclear, but if you are willing to pay attention and learn from him you can do very well.
Professor Zinke is awesome! He's so helpful and really cares about his students. He goes out of his way to help students understand his material. He also has a great sense of humour and he's extremely nice!
nicest man and you can get a good mark without doing anything, just think logically and you will do well. dont go to class it will not help.
Excellent Prof, really smart and will go out of his way to help you out. He can go off track sometimes but he's pretty good, be prepared to use your text book A LOT!
Very helpful and friendly.
Long live Zinke! he is such a good guy, so smart and so helpful..he dedicates his life to teaching this course for u to succeed in whatever it is that u will be doing in the future. his dedication shows by all his contents online and how he makes himself available for help so much. U gotta love him
funy guy
I love Zinke! He is the nicest man and if you listen carefully he actually says a lot of hilarious things that no one else seems to catch because no one listens. He is so smart! That being said, be prepared to teach yourself a lot :) The textbook is kind of pointless.
great
If you took this early on, switch out now, it will save u alot of time and effort. I wanted someone to teach me physics, sadly i got shafted again since there is nothing in the course to help you learn
He definitely tries his best to make help available but he is often hard do understand. I didn't find classes very useful but everything is in the text book. Exams were often unrelated to study material given with very difficult wording.
A very funny and awesome person. Always willing to help. However he can not teach for the life of him. Always trails off. I think i've learnt more history than physics in his class. I suggest taking the normal physics.
Everything is on your textbook and online, you are allowed to bring cheat sheet to test/exam. Take the advantage of that. Online quiz, online tutorial, and lab are free give away marks (almost 40/100 are free mark). Watch out for Zinke's tests and Final, his final was never easy, questions are sometime very confusing. very helpful but can't teac
Useless course. Zinke is difficult to understand, classes are useless, and much of the material covered on the tests is unrelated to course content.
A friendly professor. funny sometimes. may be hard to understand what he says. mostly the lessons are from the textbook. quizzes, labs and participation marks are easy to get. some questions on the exams are unclear though.
Dr. Zinke sincerely cares about his students. He is EXTREMELY conscientious. No student can complain that Zinke does not provide enough learning material or resources or office hours to do well in his course. I also appreciate Dr. Zinke's perspicacity. His test questions and anecdotes are always thought-provoking.
Textbook is your best friend. Go to class if you're having trouble sleeping.
Dr. Zinke is a very helpful, fair and caring professor. He's always available for extra help and provides tons of resources for students to do well in the course. Lectures are not the most useful, but if you listen to what he's saying, he gives some really interesting lessons and has a hilarious sense of humour. Definitely use the textbook to study
Extremly nice man who cares alot about this course. Course itself-very dry and difficult to understand if not a physics person.Accent is something you get use to. If you require help GO talk to him, he would love to help. Kind of a push over in lecture (many students take advantage of him). Tests/ Exams HARD, easy to get good final grade
1029 is easier than 1028. I went to class in 1028, ended with a 90. Did not go in 1029 ended with a 96. His unit tests are hard-ish, but he will bell you to ensure a class average of 75. Pretty much gives you the first 1/2 of the course (literally gives it to you), but then makes his exams KILLER (Prob Solv is a lot easier than MC. 80 is easy toget
Writing this review in this class now. It takes an amount of concentration greater than available to most humans to pay attention to him. Seriously. take normal physics. Sometimes he words his questions really awkwardly. But they're easy. Also, he'll make you buy his own textbook and Top Hat Monocle. which i think is useless.
Jedi's a pretty awesome guy. Not the best teacher in lectures, but is good at explaining in person. His textbook will become your life!!!
Zinke is hands down the worst professor you will have at UWO. He spends the entire lecture talking about stuff that won't be on the test in a monotonous voice. So you think, "I'll just read the textbook," but he wrote the textbook! It's just as bad as his lectures! He motivates me to pursue a PHD in physics so I can replace him in this course.
He's not the greatest prof, but he's a really good guy. He goes through a lot of work to put all stuff online and make things as easy as possible for us. He is so hard to sit and listen to though, i always fall asleep. Just do the textbook work, do the quizzes and you'll be fine.
Don't waste your money, time, or patience with this course. Just take the other physics class. The class average for the exam was around 40 last year (I have yet to write it). I mean, come on!
Although it is quite difficult to understand him, his course is fairly easy and he is still a very kind and helpful person.
awesome prof
He is awesome :)
Nice guy, but course is very difficult.. Exam is impossible
He is a great person. Although his accent is very hard to understand, as long as you concentrate and read textbook you will do well in class. His tests and exams are EXTREMELY hard (almost impossible) but he bell curves alot. He is very willing to help you if you need help.
Zinke is a very nice man. He really wants the best for his students. Unfortunately he is not a very good prof. You'll find that after the first week of school, nobody attends his class. He rambles about nothing, and barely teaches the material. USE THE TEXTBOOK. (He wrote it.)
BEST GUY, yes he has an accent, so what, read the textbook and you'll get a good mark, awesome guy to talk to
Great Guy! Personally came around to each of the thousand students in his class during labs and introduced himself. The Course Sucks, borring material and Zinke isnt the most captivating fellow in the world. His tests are moderately difficult but the exam is friggin tough. it gets bell curved. Great guy though, really cares about his students
Zinke is a nice guy and he genuinely cares about his students' success. However, it can be difficult to pay attention in his lectures, he is quite verbose and has an accent. DO NOT use this as an excuse not to go to class or not to pay attention. If you listen, read the book, and do the questions and you will do well in his class.
Great guy, but his lectures are REALLY boring. first semester went for the first month, then after that did not go at all... Really easy to go into the exam with 90+. Exam is hard, but not impossible. If you study well in advance and have a good cheat sheet from the prep course, you will do great. Study for the exam, you will do great. (got 88)
He's a very nice professor. Lectures are rather boring. Text book is SUPER important!!!
HANDS DOWN the nicest prof at western! honestly go see him during office hours, he actually wants to help you out. He has everything laid out for you online just stay on track with quizzes and USE THE TEXTBOOK. Make sure you have a solid cheat sheet during the final and do practice papers and you'll do well. Listen up for the random star wars jokes
nice guy terrible teacher. even if you love physics don't take this class.
His exam questions are SO difficult and irrelevent to examples in class or quizzes. "the swimmer had goggles." . worse course ever. ruined it and this course should be taken out of the curriculum next year. and textbooks are USELESS in the exam. only course that bell curves because it literally needs to.
Advice for this course: 1) do not go to lecture. Just do all the course work according to the schedule he makes for you. 2)Make an effort for the online quizzes - it will help later I PROMISE. 3) Do unit tests with at least 5 friends. 4) Try not to get raped by the exam - that's a challenge! But it's easy to walk into the final with 90+.
I found his lectures boring and that they dragged on, but if you can fight through that, then you'll realize that he is a very smart person who knows what he's talking about and how to have it make sense to you. Exam is very tough, but he gives you enough opportunities for your mark to get up there.
His lectures are boring, but if you're interested in physics they're not too bad. Some days I was intensely interested in what he had to say. He is a very intelligent and nice prof.
Love Zinke, he's super helpful if you don't understand something. Loves to ramble and its super hard to pay attention. However textbook explains everything. MAKE SURE TO DO ASSIGNED PROBLEMS! Almost all quiz questions are very similar to ones in text. Do the review at the end of the year with Parissa, I did and ended up with a 93. :)
Never took physics in high school. Never went to a SINGLE lecture. Never read a SINGLE page of the textbook. Just pay and go to the review session. I had absolutely NO idea what the course was about two days before exam. But ended up with 80s.
Great prof! Very funny :)
He tends to talk about things really irrelevant to what he's teaching but it's entertaining. If you actually have any interest in learning physics don't take this course. Participation marks for pretty much everything, online lectures, open book exams and bell curve, Just do the exam review course and you're good to go.
Nicest, most down to earth prof at western! His lectures are a drag but just keep up with the sections in the textbook by doing practice problem and you'll do well. Make sure to get all the participation marks and definitely attend his office hours, he's super helpful if you know what you're asking! Take the end of term review sessions!
Very hard to understand. Quizzes and tests are all online so it is easy to do well if you have smart friends to study with. no mid-term only multiple online tests. exam is awful but he takes out multiple questions so your mark increases. labs are not easy but not crazy difficult and the TA's are very helpful so labs bring you mark up
Zinke is so nice and funny; he tries to make his lectures interesting even though the material is dull. The only down side is that he's not very good at explaining. There are plenty of chances to do well in his class because marks are spread out in terms of online quizzes, tests, labs and the exam. He also records lectures, which is really helpful!
I love Zinke!
worst professor ever. He is impossible to understand, and his unit test questions are irrelevant to any thing you are taught in class or read in his equally bland textbook written by him. You're overall average will take a hit because of Zinke and his inability to explain relevant material and explain relevant examples.
HONESTLY ALL OF YOU THAT SAY HES A BAD PROF ITS CUZ UR A BAD STUDENT AND DONT ATTEND OR DO ANY WORK...IF U REMOTELY PAY ATTENTION AND DO ASSIGNED TEXTBOOK HOMEWORK YOU SHOULD HAVE NO PROBLEM AND HE BELL CURVES TOO WUT A NICE GUY
His Lectures are extremely boring and the lecture hall gets emptier as the semester continues. If you listen to them though, it is very beneficial and the useless things he mentions come handy in unit tests. The exam is full of trick questions and is very hard which is why the course grade is bell-curved very heavily.
He truly wants to help the students, even if you dont go to class you still get a good mark. hos questions can be tricky and frusturating but it wont affect your mark at all. He always goes to his office hours and truly will help any student no problem. hes an adorable prof. people just stuggle because his lectures are hard to understand
I'd rate this course overall 4/5. I feel like it's largely misunderstood (like his lectures) because the stuff that he teaches actually was quite interesting and he did have a good way of asking questions that weren't "tricky" if you really THOUGHT about them. I found it fair in a devious sort of way.
Worst prof I have ever had. Rambles on and on in class about random unrelated topics (like dinosaurs and birds), has a German accent that makes it hard to pay attention, his test questions often are so vague and misworded that they are taken off, his textbook (which he co-authored) is useless, disorganized and has so many calculation errors.
Really cares about his students, always sets time to help with questions, very easy to approach. I was reluctant to take his 1028A and 1029B courses at the beginning but the overall experience was really great. This course will aslo prepare you very well for the MCAT I think. Very caring and interesting prof for sure.
Great prof! Really cares about your progress and easy to talk to
Snooze fest. The material taught in class is often useless and irrelevant to the course. Exams are brutal but the rest of the course is easy. I dislike knocking accents but his is heavy enough that he is difficult to understand. He seems like a a great guy and he's good to talk to but he is not meant to be a professor.
I don't know why people stand this class, it's the worst. Not only does he have an accent which allows for easy zoning out, he also rambles about things which have nothing to do with anything. His questions are purposefully designed to screw you. If you have any chance of surviving in the harder Physics, please take it. You will regret taking 1028.
He is really funny, I loved his quirky teaching style.
He rambles about something totally irrelevant for half the lecture and mumbles the important parts. You're better off just reading the textbook. Nice guy though
He's a really nice guy, his lectures make absolutely no sense, and he's actually fairly comprehensible at his office hours. If you put any effort into the course, you'll get an 80 or above because of the bell curve.
He gives you the marks you need but you will fail his open-book exams. Lectures are useless.
You have to try very very hard to get less than 90% in this course. You can probably get less than 90% only if you never flip the book open. Just spend a week studying for the final and you'll get 90+
Pointless lectures, basically have to learn on your own
not a fun time
I probably went to 6 classes all semester. Did nothing all semester and copied unit test answers from others. Went to the pariageron review session, studied course 2 days before exam and ended up with a 99 in the course. Legit the easiest course I've ever taken.
Things he talks about in lectures have absolutely NOTHING to do with course material, better off reading the textbook. Basically relied on the prep session for the exam and crammed. You'll still end up with an 80+ without learning a thing because of his weird marking scheme.
Professor Zinke means well and you can tell he cares about his students, but you really have to know all the technicalities and tricks for the exam. Definitely suggest taking the prep course (saved me) and make sure to do the required amount of unit tests, MC tests, lecture questions and WebAssign, as that will definitely add to your final grade.
Really nice guy, just isn't the greatest teacher in my opinion. He doesn't cover information you are tested on... he really likes to talk about philosophical stuff instead of course material.
He likes to talk about life. And stories. And tangents. To 700 kids. Lectures are quite unproductive, but I guess it helps you practice sorting through his random stories since he also tells random stories on the exam. The exam seems like you failed after you write it, but then somehow end up with a good mark due to his weird marking scheme.
Not very easy to understand in lecture, I would recommend reading the textbook and asking him questions in your own time. If you keep this up throughout the semester, you won't have to go to a cram course like I had to! He's actually much clearer when you are asking him questions one on one.
He's the king of all professors. Do not be fooled by his common appearance with his uniform of navy vests. You need to meet him in person so to admire the greatness that he really is.
He is an angel sent from above. I dont think professors could care more for students than zinke does. He is just such a good person you can not say anything bad about him. he is a little bit hard to understand but is an absolutely amazing individual. bless his soul.
take the review course before the final, NO MIDTERM THO
He thinks differently than us common folk. He's fascinating, once you understand how he works. He's not a good professor, but he's probably an amazing researcher. Exams are easy and the curve is insane
love him
Showed up to 2 classes all year, didnt even open up my textbook, then took the prep course and passed with mid 90's, hes a completely ridiculous prof who wont teach anything and the exam will mess your day up, but would recommend taking the course because of its easiness to get a high mark
Avoid this course if possible. Go to the prep session. Do web assign. Go into the course with the highest mark possible, and you should be okay with the bell curve you'll hopefully get.
This class is structured so he has to do the least amount of work possible. Did not attend a single lecture and did not study/open a book and still passed. Just circled random letters on the final. A course should not be structured this way
I went to ten lectures, and that was ten too many. He went through (maybe) one problem in a lecture, and did them in the most roundabout way possible. I read the entire textbook, but felt like I had to guess at most of the answers on the exam - there were maybe two that I actually did something for. I'm glad to be rid of that class and that prof.
Seems like he has absolutely no idea what he's talking about and just mumbles about random things. I really don't understand how he's a university lecturer when there are tons of unemployed capable PhDs.
He's a nice enough person, but a terrible lecturer. He would rather talk about his life and who knows what else, than teach the course. Nobody goes to lectures (he even admits that they're a waste of time) and you can pass without even looking at your book. If you want the credit, take the course. If you want to learn physics, avoid at all costs.
I was worried about doing Physics but Zinke was so helpful! I kept up with the work based on the suggested time line and went every week to his virtual office hours to ask questions. He usually went 1hr over time in his office hours just making sure every student that showed up got the help they needed. Thanks to all his extra help I got an A+
Horrible Prof
worst prof
horrible class. horrible experience. Not to say Zinken has bad intentions but a 0/10 for being a prof
He's different. The moment you do decide you want to learn physics he will always be there.
This is the best professor ever. He really cares about students and loves physics. He is always open to helping and will go out of his way to make sure you understand the topics being taught. However, you need to actually study the notes. He is great, but you must work for your grade! Study A!
Zinke is such a great professor. His teaching style is different but whats great about it, is that he really tries to get his students to understand the content rather than memorize. His classes were both interesting and informative. I really enjoyed him as a professor. Wish he taught more physics classes! Best prof at UWO who actually cares.
Not an easy course with this prof don't take astronomy 2021. Tests are crazy hard on top of that he's got all kinds of weirdly phrased questions going on in the test. Huge accent, German + a bit of British in it, impossible to understand in class. He barely even teaches astronomy, the test is a mixture of chem, bio, physics, and geology. Its nuts.
Awful prof. The tests make up majority of the grade, which is fine except for the fact that he picks the most RANDOM stuff to put on it????? Not an astronomy class... more physics/chem/geology.
Trash.
hilariously bad I'd box his head off if he wasn't so old
Arts student taking class for a science credit. Must attend every lecture - but wont actually take notes cause you can't understand anything he's saying (thick German accent and english vocab is limited so he's hard to follow) textbook gets updated every year and you definitely need the new one - very expensive. Exams are very hard to prepare for.
His final exams are nothing like the course materials. Reading the questions on the exam is like going through an English course because of how weirdly they're worded. I learned more about chemistry, biology, psychology, and physics in this course than I did about space.
Zinke is the definition of an awful professor. Gives no guidance, isn't accessible for questions, ridiculously hard exams, not to mention the fact you can't make out a single word he's saying and he doesn't even teach on course content. The only thing I learned was to avoid any classes with him in the future. Worst, professor, ever.
I don't even know what to say. He sent out an email regarding how "disappointed" he was in regards to the results of the final exam. Shouldn't that tell you more about how you are as an EDUCATOR than how these students have the capacity to learn? The midterm and final exam are DRAINING. No amount of studying will help you with his exams. Awful.
Dr. Zinke was not a good prof. He was very unclear & hard to understand, and his exams were absolutely ridiculous. I will say this though, he seems to truly care about his students & makes videos to demonstrate course content in lecture. I think he really does care and he is a super nice guy, but not the a good professor at the university level.
he was the worst prof I've ever had. the lectures are incredibly dry and felt like I wasn't learning anything during them, as he doesn't even cover most of what is discussed in the textbook. make sure you buy and read the textbook or else you won't know what's happening. his exams are unnecessarily hard too and he always has to curve them.
Zinke-Allmang is such a sweet and caring professor. The material was hard and specific but you can tell he tried to be helpful w his lectures. I found the class pretty boring because of his delivery and the content in general, but he genuinely wanted his students to succeed with practice questions and lots of mini assignments to boost our marks.
Dr. Zinke is actually a very nice man who seems to actually care about his students and the info that he is teaching. However he is quite boring and very difficult to understand. His tests and quizzes are not very difficult but the textbook is very expensive and is REQUIRED. I would avoid him for classes other than this intro course.
Dr. Zinke is a classic example of a good prof with terrible course execution. Zinke is a great guy who cares about he students and gives them plenty of breaks with test and quizzes. However, I feel his is absent other than lectures, very confusing to communicate with and extremely boring lectures. Nice guy but don't expect and easy road ahead.
Was fine I guess? Didn't really learn much from the teacher himself - I moreso relied on the textbook. Really easy to get a high grade in this class though - would definitely recommend it to anyone who's just trying to get their science course out of the way.
Fun class - since I took it online it was pretty easy because every week we had the same assignments just for different topics. He rambles on sometimes but it was always something fun to listen to, and you can tell he really cares about his work.
Powerpoints and lectures were ridiculously long, boring, and completely unnecessary. A bunch of the questions on the finals had nothing to do with any of the class material. Somehow managed to get 100% though.
Super easy class, lots of chances to get free marks basically for showing up. Even without showing up, the exams are curved and pretty easy if you read the textbook. If you can get past his accent and dry delivery, his lectures are hilarious too. What other prof would say "no one died when a meteor hit Siberia because Siberia is for the gulag."?
Overall, I would not recommend this class to anyone interested in the subject material. Take this one online especially if Martin is delivering it. He's a cool guy, had some interesting lectures and has a sense of humor. Beyond that lectures are a drag to get through, and are pointless to attend. Easy class, but would not take again with this prof.
Literally so rude, very hard class for no reason and he does not help at all.
I had this prof for Physics 2070B and thought he was alright. The exams were based on the textbook so the lectures started to feel pretty useless. Also, the exams were open book. In any case, the lectures were still pretty interesting and I could tell the prof was definitely trying to make us understand the lecture content. Good elective overall.
don't take it, it was very draggy and its not a course to take if you're interested in the topic but if you do study for the midterm and final don't go into it blindly just because its open book
Super nice guy and cares about his students but his lectures are super hard to listen to and pretty boring.
Very dry lectures and only evaluated by midterm, final, and quizzes. Hard tests too. Good guy though, although sometimes hard to hear.
10/10
Martin is passionate about the topic, but his delivery is tough. He has a heavy accent which is occasionally hard to understand, and you have to listen actively to catch it all. Our exam average was awful, but it was heavily curved, so I don't know what happens normally as far as grades. I'd stay away from it if it's for a breadth requirement.
Really nice guy who loves what he teaches, but really bad at the teaching part. Not an engaging speaker, and every sentence is mostly him rambling. Don't expect to learn by yourself either; the slides barely have any information, so you HAVE to show up to lectures & try to stay engaged. Accent was not an issue for me, and 1021 exams are open book.
Very nice man and knowledgeable about the subject, but really bad with the teaching part because he tends to ramble a lot. Very strong accent so if you find it hard to understand, you'll struggle a little bit. At the end of the day, it's a good thing attendance isn't mandatory because you'll have to learn on your own anyways.
