Absolutely the worst professor I have encountered in my three years here. He has no idea what he is teaching, and the business department will be doing a great disservice to students by allowing him to continue teaching (at least in this particular area)

whatever you do, do not take this prof!
The worst professor i've ever had. Very unhelpful because of the language barrier.
do not take this prof!
Only helpful if you go to his office hours and talk to him one on one. Tests are WAY too long for class period, and he doesn't let you have any extra time. Difficult to understand in class because of language barrier.
Do not take this professor. Language barrier is bad. Moves too fast. Average grade is a D+.
This class is hard and I don't think it's all his fault. He really tries to help his students in any way that he can, but will not just give you an A b/c you think you deserve one. There is a lot of infor in the course so he cannot cover it all in class
You have to study for this class, but it's not that bad. It's just a lot of information. He's always willing to help if you see him in his office.
Horrible teacher! He cant speak english clearly as well as he goes through the material way to fast. He doesnt explain anything just reads the powerpoint presentations outloud, you basically havce to teach yourself!
he can be had to understand at times, but he is very helpful if you are willing to see him in his office and as the semester progresses the tests get easier. You have to be willing to spend time out of class to study or you don't have a chance.
DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!!!! unless he is your adviser, then he will take it easy on you. This class is too important to fail, and if you take Gonzalez and not too fantastically great in stats, HE WILL FAIL YOU.
WORST TEACHER ON CAMPUS. Wastes time on useless presentations. Tests don't cover assigned material. tells you x, y, and z is one test the asks all questions from different topic. AWFUL!!!

tests are full of trick questions...dosent give the answers to the review questions so you dont even know if you are studying correct material.
Worst professor that I have ever been unfortunate enough to have to deal with. There is a DEFINITE language barrier. Tests are awful and are full of trick questions. I really think that he enjoys making things more difficult than they have to be.
By far the worst most ineffective disrespectful professor I have ever encountered to date. The material is difficult, but this professor makes it impossible. He lies, manipulates, deceives, and disrepspects his students. His rating is an F.
I failed his class but he was very helpful and will go above and beyond his role as a teacher to help you understand the material, but only if you approach him. He seems very strict and does not tolerate missing class or coming in late.
When will the business dept. start hiring English speaking teachers? I had him for 1 day and dropped out when he announced to the class that avg. grade was C. Does that not say anything about his teaching skills?
I just took the first exam. AVOID THIS PROFESSOR AT ALL COSTS!!!! He is horrible, he avoids answering questions, and doesn't know what he is talking about. His study guides and HW don't even help on the test!
I am good at math and this class is RIDICULOUSLY HARD- i have never made below a B in a class and i think i just failed my first exam. The tests are tricky and unfair and he puts the absolute hardest material in every question. AVOID THIS PROFESSOR!!
ABSOLUTELY ****ING SUCKS!! Isn't clear on what he wants in class, goes over material for tests, quizzes, and homework after they've been turned in. Study guides do not cover material on tests. VERY UNCLEAR!!
This man is the worste; avoid him like the plauge! Thank God for the math lab help because he hasn't taught me a thing. He has 0 tollerance for problems or difficulties. 1 good thing though he did let us retake our 1st exam after 3/4 of the class failed.
can't understand a word he says, why do they hire people w/ such strong accents?
Unclear, says he is willing to help you but doesn't really. His tests are tricky and he is very particular on the homework. I am praying to get a C in his class, he is horrible, trust me don't take him unless you want to retake it again the next semester. He is very intimidating.
Finished the class and TRYING to prepare for the final exam...the class was ridiculously hard and the final exam is going to be impossible. It is on 18 chapters and even if i had started a month ago it still wouldnt be enough. Take ANYONE else but NOT GONZALEZ
This class was very hard. The attendance policy is ridiculous. Your third absence results in an F. His test are impossible and he doesn't help. He gives quizzes and hw on material you haven't learned. There is no way to do good in this class unless you teach yourself. AVOID HIM AT ALL COST
His accent is a barrier, but he knows that and tries to help even more. If you ask him for help and are respectful in class, he helps you throughout the semester. He seems tough but is very willing to help if you work and show respect. He gives a lot of extra credit to improve your grade.
This professor is the worst ever. He is absolutely insane, you can't understand a word he says and he isnt understanding at all, even if you are respectful to him.I think he left the only positive rating for himself.Dont take this professor- the class made the whole semester miserable.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF.!!!! Teachers like this should not be allowed to teach such hard classes. His INABILITY to speak clearly is a major barrier for all learning levels. The tests are difficult and can't be finished in the allotted time. I re-took the class with another professor and got an A !!!
worst
Do not take this class. He won't help you if you miss his class. He gets frustrated when people ask questions and you can't understand him. Get out now!
the devil himself. im a very good student and even i am doing badly in this class because of his sheer unhelpfulness. HATES questions, puts zeros in for quizzes that you TOOK and made a decent grade in.... unorganized, mean, and just overall a bad professor
He's a good guy if you take the time to get to know him. If you're having trouble, go to his office and he will help. He doesn't put up with stupid stuff. It's not exactly an easy class, and he's not the kind to just hand you an A. But considering the alternatives, I would recommend him.
He is not the greatest teacher and he will never win a personality contest. If you need to take his class I highly recommend a tutor so you can have someone teach you the information outside of class. Dont ever miss class and dont ask questions he will only make you look stupid.
He cannot speak proper english, his central american accent is such a barrier that you cannot understand important key concepts. Plus his teaching techniques are uneffective and he is on a power trip, one of those professors that couldnt hack it in the real world and takes it out on us. Some people just arent meant to be teachers.
HORRIBLE!! Don't ask questions or send him emails for help, he will make you feel like a idiot in front of the whole class! Not to mention you can't understand a word he says! I got a A+ in Math 104 and am almost failing his class. Avoid the Gonzalez at ALL cost!!
jerk. Has a bit of an attitude problem. Knows he's incredibly smart and if you don't understand he thinks you're an idiot. Acts like he wants to help students, but have yet to see it. I spent a lot of time in the math lab
He is pretty much the worst professor that I've ever had. His accent is hard to understand and his quizzes and tests are out of control. Try to avoid taking him if you can.
I took him in maymester 2004 and I have decided I have to tell everyone- he is not only the worst professor I have ever had, but the most difficult, irritating, and ignorant person I have ever met. Literally- the WORST. Don't take him- you have to do all math vs. Hodges who is analysis-oriented and provide templates.
Stay far away! He is the worst professor I have had at CofC. Gets mad when you ask for help, expects you to teach yourself.
Run away.....that is all
this guy is a ignorant pompous ass, i hope he gets sick from the water in mexico or whereevr it is he hails from..dirty bum
I have never hated going to a class more than I did with his class. He is reknown for being a complete jerk to everyone. He tells you from the beginning that if you can't understand his accent then you should leave. Also just a heads up more, people fail his class then pass. So if you don't care about your GPA, then I advise you take him.
EASILY the worst professor ive had at the college. Will go through a 20 minute problem and then realize that he got the answer wrong. Quesada must wear the pants because this guy has some serious MPMS issues. How he still works at the college is beyond me. If all other sections of this class are filled I'd STILL recommend waiting until next semeste

I recommend him for this class. He is very helpful if you try.His quizzes are not difficult because he will give you a study guide before hand.Only 2 tests and no final. The final is a group project.A on project,A in class. There was a study guide for the tests and the test was exactly like the study guide. You can get a very good grade if you try Erin
Good professor who gets a bad reputation. Most people fail because they are lazy. Not the easiest class, but thats why we are in college and not high school. I would take him again
This class is horrible. He is unclear and thinks we owe him something because he can't speak perfect english and we can't understand him. If you take him, have fun because you will probably have to retake him next semester. The bottom line is I do not understand why colleges hire professors like these. He is a big ****ing ****. YES OR NOT?
he goes out of his way to help his students do well. You can go to his office whenever and he will help. He is flexible about everything but attendence. He def helped me pass.
What a bunch of immature students! Dr. Gonzalez is NOT difficult to understand - he has an accent, but so do we! His class is NOT impossible to pass, and I feel certain that the students who have given him a bad rating on here are ones that failed. I dislike math and am not good at it, but I got a B+ in his class. Go to class and he helps you ou
Dr. Gonzalez is a good teacher but he is very insecure and gets irritated easily. His frustration is channeled out to his class. As long as you can tolerate that, which most won't, then you should be ok.
dr. gonzalez is a very good teacher. he may be hard to understand b/c of his accent but is a very good professor. he helps you out and tries his best to help everyone pass. i would definitely take a class with him again.
How can the CofC continue to let this professor work at the college? He needs to be evaluated.
the worst teacher at the school. he doesnt explain anything so be prepared 2 teach yourself
he is good, maybe the best professor. Just if you are lazy and you are looking for easy A. Get another professor, but if you you want to be ready for the level, Dr Gonzalez is the best.
I think he wrote the previous comment himself. Terrible.
tests are really hard, gives you no time on quizes, matierial is easy, he teaches well although he has an accent. could make the tests easier. Not much help outside of class...answers with "NO" a lot. Good luck getting an A.
STRICT attendence policy. infact, strict about everything. his syllabus was FOUR pages long, and he gives a quiz on it. would not recommend him for this class to anyone without a STRONG statistics background. class isnt "hard", but dr. G isn't clear on so many things everything becomes hard somehow. i enjoyed his class though cause he's funny
probably the worst teacher at cofc. inconsiderate and rude. not very willing to help and yells at you when you ask questions. dont even waste your time with this class. take it in the summer at another school.
Not a nice guy... gave us no review for the final what so ever... Doesnt give homework and go over it the next day just does problems in class... Not helpful... Bassically sucks
this guy is on a complete power trip..very unhelpful. he uses problems that he doesnt even teach on his quizzes and tests. he even had to negotiate grades with his students just so a majority of the class didnt fail. by far the worst teacher i have ever had.
Please do not take this guy. I have never put a posting but this is one guy you should try to stay away from. He seems to enjoy to see his students fail. You might think that you are a good student, but wait till you take his class. Don't take this class or you will live to regret this throughout your college years. The worst prof. at CofC, no doub

Not a nice guy at all does not care about he student and did not learn anything except that i dont like him....he is hateful...made a few girls in our class cry for no reason and yells at you when you ask a question because in his eyes it is a "stupid question"..a reaL a~~.
Marvin Gonzales runs his class like the dictator of a third world country exploiting its peasants. He goes out of his way to make life miserable for his students. DO NOT TAKE HIM. He is without a doubt the most negative, rude, unhelpfull, (explitive) of a teacher I have ever encountered.
Worst teacher ever. Hopefully, the imigration bill will pass and he will be deported.
DO NOT TAKE HIM! I am a hard-working student that goes to all classes and extra help sessions. He is not impossible to understand but does not like students or teaching. Questions to him are insulting and he will not answer. Spent more time teaching myself. Hardest C I have ever worked for.
WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY ENTIRE LIFE....can't speak english for his life, pounds on the desk in anger when you ask questions, has the most annoying accent I have ever heard. Will fail you for "incorrect formatting" with correct answers. ARROGANT AND STUPID ALL AT ONCE
I think that the only students that leave angry msgs are the ones the got bad grades, and some of the things said about him are just ignorant - the guy is FOREIGN!! he speaks and thinks differently, but let me reassure you he's much more intelligent than any of the ppl below will ever be, and his level of education is OUTSTANDING!
Difficult class. If you go to him during his office hours he is slightly more helpful, but not much. He says he wants everyone to do well yet literally makes everything harder than it should be. I made high A's on 2 tests and still got a C+. It all comes down to the theory quizzes which are *impossible*. It's all you if ya like a challenge!
passion and commintement with GOOD students
good, hard, but if you are looking for learn..he is the man..if you are looking for an easy A....he is not you man...Good, hard but teach you stat....and to be a good professional
I agree, Gonzalez is hard, but is a good professor. I like him
Great teacher...difficult topic, if you need help just ask...and you get it. Nice approach
I was in his business stats class: awful! I studied for all his tests and never was totally prepared, and he never explains what you should even study on the theory portions, it's not what you went over in class. He is rude and assumes all students are idiots or slackers. Very poor experience, only take him if you're prepared for his wrath!
Picture a little angry chiwawa that just barks allllllll day and if you try to pet it it bites u......that's pretty much him. He is the most unhelpful prof. I have ever had ...EVER!!!!If you try going to his office and for help, you'll come out feeling worse. He tells you to the math lab and then will bad mouth the tutors for not knowing Stats.
Horrible teacher..not helpful at all. Really rude. Don't take him. I've been really good at math my entire life until this year. Strict attendance policy.
He truly is the worse professor I have ever had. He comes to class unprepared and often forgets how to do the problems. He brings a lot of negative energy to the classroom. He is very rude to students and he cannot speak English very clearly. He is a horrible teacher! I've gotten descent grades in his class but ONLY because I go to Math Lab!
Very dissatisfied with this professor. Try to avoid him at ALL costs! Very bad teacher!
He is not cut out to be a college professor. He is not an honest or helpful teacher. He doesn't communicate clearly and leaves the class very confused. He has a huge Ego and is very prideful. The undoubtly worse professor ever.

honestly, if he didnt put theory on the tests, i think i would have done way better. But, he doesnt think to actually teach anything of the sort, so you end up failing them. i hate him because he thinks he is way above his students. he is an ineffective teacher and will make you hate statistics. hardest c ive worked for too. dont take him.
I passed the class with a C+ (thanks Math Lab), but I really feel he is a bad teacher and an even worse person. He is not a man of his word. He will not help you. He should be fired, he obviously doesn't enjoy his job. Don't take him.
This teacher comes off like a tough but fair guy, but you will soon come to realize he is nothing of the sort. The less you have to deal with him the better off you will be. AVOID him at all costs. He makes empty promises and changes his mind at the last minute. He is a worthless teacher.
VERY BAD PERSON and professor. The worse! Not very smart, has VERY broken English and is evil!
He is quite possible the worst teacher I've ever had. I did ok in the class but only because I'm good at statistics. Avoid his class if at all possible. He loves to play favorites.
I have studied outside of the US and consider myself openminded about cultural differences in teaching and I don't have a problem with poor english, however, this professor is quite possibly the most horrible one you will ever meet. He will only help the people that understand... which isn't helpful. He expects respect, but is disrespectful.
I just heard that the College gave this guy tenure -- that means he's here forever. All we can do is avoid him. Is anyone reading evaluations?
The guy can relay the information well and his accent is not a problem. His problem is how bitter he is. Someone complained and he tried to turn the whole class against the person! Dr. Gonzalez would be a great teacher/person if he tried to enjoy life more. He claims he can find out who writes these, so ten bucks to him if he does.
I am just going to keep this simple. Do not take a class with this professor. You will just end up taking it again over the summer with a different professor. It is a waste of money.
Horrible professor. The book he and Queseda wrote is so full of mistakes, there should be another book just to cover the mistakes. The most unapproachable prof. I have ever had! Beware!
He makes it challenging and his class is hard but you have to GO to class, take good notes, and STUDY. I did fine and it was because I spent alot of time on the class.
It is a hard class but its nothing you cant handle. You have to go to all of the classes if you expect to know how to do the material. The book gives step by step instructions, which is helpful. A lot of people say bad things about the class but it wasnt that bad you just cant be lazy. Do any extra credit assignments given
I will make it my mission to write as many letters as possible to the College of Charleston to inform them of what a horrible teacher they have employed!!! Stay far from him.
despite his bad reputation he's a good teacher. the class is definitely one of the hardest i've taken but if you put in the effort and go to office hours you will be okay and he will do his best to help you. while attendance is not mandatory i strongly suggest going to every class!! he does notice who misses and does not like those who miss! GL!
Honestly all you have to do is try in this class. If you put some effort forth he will see it, ie: GO TO CLASS! Really he comes off as a jerk, but in my opinion he just wants to weed out the students who are just getting by and that don't really care about school...Thanks Dr. Gonzalez, I owe you big time!
if you keep up with the material and have a good understanding of statistics, then the class and teacher are easy to follow. the class itself, decis. stats, has way too many formulas and rules but thats just how it is. overall he is a good teacher. 1 1/2 thumbs up.
He comes off as being extremely tough on his students, but he is just trying to get his students to apply themselves. If you go to class, office hours, and do practice problems it is impossible to fail this class. He notices who is trying and rewards them. Thanks Dr. G.
I love Dr. G! The subject is not an easy one, but he teaches it well. Mistakes are easy to make, that's how the grades go down. Study, the book he made has so many practice problems that help!
He must have written the comments below about himself ...because he is a horrible and insensitive professor. Do not take him. He is rude and dishonest. If you go to his office hours he will make you feel stupid. His communication and teaching skills need major work. AVOID HIM!
I passed, maybe the previous failed. He is good, university professor. Just study hard with him or any professor (good professor)
I did fine in the class but only because I went to math lab. He has a bad attitude and does not teach well. I would not recommend him at all.
He is good, university level. If you ant to lear take the class with him, if you want an easy A..takes Jones
He is a bad professor and lacks basic teaching skills. If you take him you will probably need to go to the math lab. I would suggest taking another professor who is williing to help. I heard professor Jones is good.
Class in general is hard. He is a difficult teacher and is not very warm to his students. If you go to the class and pay attention its not that bad. He knows if you put in effort and go to his class and you will see it in your grade.
Horrible teacher. The material is definitely useful to know for the future, so practice is necessary, but his tests dont give enough time and his quizzes are really hard. He says he will help you and gives chances for extra credit but has strict requirements and most cant achieve them. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!
His class is hard but my advice to anyone taking it is to work hard but at the same time, try to understand his style and format of tests. Once I learned how to study for his tests i did better, but you have try and be as thorough and precise on his tests. Just work EXREMELY HARD! HES AN "INTERESTING" GUY
Now that I am graduating this semester I can clearly say that he is the worst professor (if you can even call him a professor) that I had at CofC. He has zero people skills and uses fear motivation to teach. He enjoys putting students down. I have written several letters to the President of CofC b/c I feel so strongly about his incompetence.
He is the worst teacher I've ever had! Will not help you solve problems! Unapproachable, strongly discourages questions to be asked in class and is very degrading to students! Unprofessional manner and takes time out of class to vent frustrations he has with the class
Worst professor I have ever had. Took his class in order to graduate on time. Bad mistake on my part.Unhelpful, uncaring and arrogant. How he got tenure is a huge issue that COFC MUST account for.
He will expect you to be more prepared for class than you're used to. That was the case for me. I had a rough start in his class, but I definately became a harder working student. Highly recommend him for dedicated students. If you work hard, you will be recognized.
I have always been a good student and am an A/B student. I worked VERY hard in his class and only missed one class. I am very disappointed in this class. He is the worse professor I have ever had at CofC. They need to let me go.
You must study hard for this class! I think he is really misunderstood, very inconsistent with explanations and answers but will give you opportunities to improve your grade.Form a study group and get help from them, don't bother asking him. Quizzes are harder than tests, both very time consuming so you will not have time to double-check your work
"four are failing the class therefore, i give NO extra credit" Also expect to hear "it's not my fault!" a girl asked to see what he wrote. he blew up and made snide comments about it until the end of class. unprofessional jerk. i missed no class, was on time, worked like crazy and no A. all he wants is to drink margaritas on his stupid boat.
"four guys are failing the class therefore, i give NO extra credit" Also expect to hear "it's not my fault!" a girl asked to see what he wrote. he blew up and made snide comments about it until the end of class. unprofessional jerk. i missed no class, was on time, worked like crazy and no A. all he wants is to drink margaritas on his stupid boat.
He barely speaks or writes english. He provides no extra help and just comes off as a total elitist. The material is difficult enough to understand but even more so by the fact that he lacks simple communication skills. It blows my mind how he is employed as a professor. You only have yourself to blame if you take him.
Ok Dr. Gonzalaz knows his stuff. If you don't pass it's your fault! YOU MUST STUDY! this is college people!! Trust me you want to take him over the other stats profs! show him you care and come to class, he will help you, treat this class like a job, and you will pass, don't walk in expecting a handout, you have to work hard, period. End of story!
This class is hard, I have a better work ethic because of this class
Horrible!
OK everyones heard that he is hard to understand, rude and he makes lots of typos, but the class itself is not very difficult. Practice, know how to use a TI-83,go to class show interest you will pass. Blow it off and you're screwed. He is a business teacher and wait to get out in the real world bc your boss will probably be worse, I know.
He is an awful teacher, he tries to act like its his accent but no, I can understand him perfectly. He is an awful teacher because he spends upwards of 25 minutes telling you how stupid your class is and how he is baffled by how little we know.
One of my favorite professors! This is a difficult class but as long as you don't miss lecture and routinely do practice problems outside of class there is no reason you will do poorly. If you respect him he will respect you and do whatever it takes to help you pass. I would definitely recommend him over the other stat professors!
all of the DSCI232 profs. at this school are apparently hard.. Dr. G will expect you to remember a LOT from MATH 104/ Statistics and moves through material fast but his lectures are good and he makes things as simple as possible. random in class quizzes. strict about attendance. lots of department-wide help sessions. final was SURPRISINGLY easy
Dr. G is a great professor and wants to see every student succeed. He has a bad track record on campus because his class is hard, but he works with you to make sure you understand the material and that you are prepared for the school of business. Take him seriously, put in effort and you will do well in his class.
Unless you are fresh out of a statistics class or a math wiz this class will be a challenge with little to no help from the professor.
Dr.G is GREAT! I had him for DSCI232 and chose to take him again for DSCI304. Yes, the class is challenging, and yes, attendance is 100% MANDATORY. GO TO EVERY CLASS! If you show you are trying and pay attention, Dr.G will do EVERYTHING to help you pass. Take him! Highly recommended. And sit in the front! He's funny too wish is a plus!
Dr. G is a really nice individual and actually very funny. My only concern/complaint is that he rushes through the material and does not do enough example problems.
A great professor that actually teaches. Don't expect to give a half effort because then you won't do well. Don't miss class, do your homework, study hard and this class is VERY possible and he really wants to help you do well if he sees you are trying. If he sees you don't try or care sometimes, good luck. Comes off mean but is actually VERY nice
Dr. G is the man. If you don't want a challenge, avoid his class. If you want to be successful and meet a surprisingly intelligent man, take his class. He's very clean and organized, and Dr. G knows his statistics. If you get an A in his stats class, you will be a millionaire.
DSCI is incredibly difficult. The tests and quizzes are very hard. If you do well, you will definitely be successful when you graduate. Dr. G's English is very hard to understand sometimes and he doesn't have a problem with calling out the "lazy" people in the class. He tries to get everyone to pass after half the class has dropped him.
He is really not that bad. Everyone hates him and the material is hard, but if you don't do the things he hates (like texting or talking in class) he is fine. Sometimes he doesn't clearly answer your questions in class but if you go to office hours he will help you a lot. Just be respectful and work hard and you can pass easily.
The work was harder than it should have been because he's not good at explaining it at all. He is rude and condescending. I don't have a problem working hard for a good grade, but I had no chance in heck with him because he's so unclear. When you try to get help, he makes you feel stupid. Would not recommend.
I wish I had taken Dr.G from day 1 of my college career, and I will tell everyone I meet for the rest of my life this. Is it hard, challenging, and going to really push you to your breaking point? Absolutely. However, if you succeed in this class, every other class you take will be much smoother. This class is for people looking to succeed in life.
By far the worst professor I've had at CofC so far. Very arrogant and not willing to help. He makes the class 10x harder then gives you a 'contract' at the end of the year. He has trouble teaching the material and constantly needs to be corrected. There is no language barrier although there is a culture barrier and he can be very rude at times.
Doctor G can be very intimidating at first but he is truly an excellent teacher! He is more than willing to help you if you put forth the effort and time! His class is such a challenge but extremely rewarding in the end. Highly recommend his class if you are willing to give it your all. He is an awesome person and teacher!
Dr G is a really good professor! He is more than willing to help you if you put forth effort. This class is not easy but it is very rewarding in the end. If you study and really give it your all you will definitely succeed. He is truly a wonderful teacher! Definitely recommend taking is class.
DR G is great teacher, hard, sometimes rude, but not more than the Pepitos with F in their minds. He knows, if you really want to learn, take him, if you are looking for an easy A,takes another teacher(there are a lot in BS). Just work and you will learn
go prepared with your previous statistics course material-he does not like explaining material he FEELS you SHOULD know. Be familiar with Excel. He "encourages" use of office hours but will demean and belittle you with ANY question you ask so unless you want to love being told you're stupid don't bother. Study hard and bear teeth!
Professor Gonzalez is my least favorite professor I have had so far. He makes tests extremely difficult. Even if you think you completely know the material he comes up with a way to trick you. He tells you to go to office hours but when you go he is extremely rude and does not help. I studied more than 10 hours for each test and still got a C.
I would not take him very difficult to understand moves extremely fast & not helpful
Prof. Gonzalez is very passionate about teaching, but is very stern and strict. He will get angry if you do not understand what he is saying and makes it clear that you are inferior for asking a question. If you are already good at stats, you will need to work hard to get an A. If you are not good at stats you will most likely fall behind early.
Give Dr. Gonzalez a break, not all college classes are easy. I did not do well in this class, but learned valuable lessons. Do all the textbook practice problems and you will get a good grade on the tests. I can tell you from experience Marvin is not mean at all, quite the opposite. Study and go to class you'll be fine. Si se puede
Do NOT take for an online class. Expects students to come to CofC for exams during online summer classes. If you can't, must find a licensed proctoring service. Doesn't like dealing with details of the proctors. Sorry I live 500 miles away. 1220 students dropped. Had to change final exam into a final paper because we all kept failing his tests
Hardest class i have ever taken but he's a character to say the least. Only class in my life i have ever failed. He is a tough one to say the least and expect to see tears at some point in class throughout the semester (no joke). also an inspirational guy. he will push you to all your limits and there's no way getting around not learning in his cal
Avoid at all costs. He is trying to prove that his classes are some of the hardest. This would not be a problem, but often he seems to be actively working against the students. Questions are often met with ridicule. Rants will take up most of the lectures. Really, the material is not that hard, but he wants lots of people to fail, and they do.
Rude during class and office hours. Expect to be lectured on your "attitude" and lack of care for his class. Very unclear about expectations for certain projects, and his accent makes him hard to understand. Demeaning at times through word choice and tone of voice. Little interest in students' well-being and passing his class. If possible, get out.
He's the hardest teacher I've ever taken. He isn't clear when he explains the material and expect quizzes almost every other day. I withdrew from his class because he was so difficult. Cool guy but I would not recommend his class to anyone who has never taken stats before.
he is a very good professor as long as you participate and do your homework. His test are hard but he tries to help you out. go to class and pay attention and you will pass his class.
Do you like arrogant, condescending professors with draconian attendance policies? Then I have just the professor for you! "Dr. G" is looking for any reason to fail you. Miss a class? Fail. Late to class? You can't come in, so you miss the class, so you fail. He smiles when he recounts failing someone. Avoid at all costs!
Unlike most of these comments, if you want an honest experience of Dr.G then look no further. I kept up with the material by doing lots of homework. Which is what your going to do in order to do well anyway. DUH! His test and quizzes are fair and actually quite easy. He expects perfection on the assignments so be prepared. Attendance req.
Love me some Dr. G! Show up, do your work, and ask questions if you have them. Knowing how to run a regression will not get you an A in DSCI. Dr. G will exploit your weaknesses, so make sure to keep up with the reading/practice. Good Luck
This class is not hard once you figure out how it works. Dr. G. is intimidating at first but he is actually very nice once you show you care about your grade in his class. It's very easy to make a 100 on almost all of his assignments. Go to his office and actually study and there's no reason you can't make an A. Plus he is so funny.
This was a challenging class, but with the help of office hours and doing the non-mandatory homework, it was doable. Professor Gonzalez is definitely not for everyone, but I enjoyed his dry sense of humor.
I was very afraid to take this class after hearing other students say how tough Dr. G is. However, this class was a rewarding challenge. Work hard and you will do well. Dr. G is funny and likes to make his students laugh. His accent was not an issue for me. If you don't drop, he will do his best to help you pass. Overall a great guy and professor.
Professor G is not a bad teacher like many say, he is intimidating but not a bad person. He will help you, but you need to put in the effort. This was one of the hardest class I took but also most rewarding. Keep practicing the problems everyday and you will get an A on the exams. He cares about his students if they show their willingness to work.
simple, he is rude, he doesn't care if you finish his exams, he should know that some students just go at different pace
Gonzalez can be very rude in class, he explains thing in a very unclear manner and often gets sidetracked with his own stories he tells. I dislike his teaching style as it consists of a lot of talking at people instead of to them. Would not recommend, there are better professors where you lean just as much without all the friction.
Dr. G is actually a great professor. While he is challenging, he is actually a great guy. You have to remember he comes from Latin America so he has different cultural behavior so don't get offended by what he says/does, he is just very honest with his students. If you try hard, do extra problems, GO TO SI, go to him you will pass I promise!
Dr. G is the most difficult professor I've had at CofC, that being said he is absolutely hilarious and I left the class actually learning. Take this class if your willing to challenge yourself, you will not pass this class if you don't show up or put in effort. Sometimes he might come off rude, but he is just very blunt and straight forward.
Do NOT be late, arrived to class at 12:15 on the dot once (when it starts) and was locked out of the room! Got a zero for the quiz that day.
Awful teacher. I've made A's in all the math classes I've taken here. I'm very sure I will not get an A in his class. He wants to see students fail to prove he teaches one of the hardest classes. He takes off participation points if you go to the math lab for extra help. Gives 20 question quizzes every class and gives you 10 mins when you need more
Professor Gonzalez isn't easy, he'll make you work for your grade but if you do the assignments and go to his office hours he'll help you pass. Do as many examples in the textbook as possible, they're the key to understanding the material and passing the tests. Gives participation points at the end of the semester and counts going to office hours.
Class is extremely hard and Dr. G gets a ton of hate for it. There are quizzes almost every day and the three tests were extremely hard. It is definitely passable if you actually put in the work for it. He wrote the text book and the tests are usually questions from the book but with just numbers changed. The pace is unrelenting, but Dr. isn't bad.
Let me be the one to level with you guys. YES, Gonzalez class is hard. He can be very demanding, there's always quizzes, sometimes there's homework, his exams are long and difficult, and he grades pretty harshly. But truthfully he'll really help you if you go to him. He's actually caring and a good teacher. Went from an F at midterms to a C-
Dr. Gonzalez s behavior and irresponsibility during the semester was breathtaking. I was forced to lodge an official complaint (which I won) but was subjected to repeated bullying behavior for the remainder of the semester. If anyone else experiences anything like this they should do the same. It's the only way to enact change. Don't stand for it.
Terrible professor! The professor does not care about you or if you understand the material. This professor is the problem why students do not want to learn in school.
I can understand why he has a bit of a tough reputation. He is very particular about some (in my opinion) silly things. He cares a lot about email criteria and attendance. IF you simply respect him and show up to class, he seems like a reasonable guy. I wouldn't take his class again, but I would grab a beer and watch some soccer with him.
Avoid at all costs. Switch your major if you have to. He is the worst professor I have ever had.
Marvin Gonzalez is very likely the hardest professor at this school. His grading isnt exactly clear and expect a few changes to the assignments through the semester. They may be added or they may be dropped. Make sure to pay attention and participate in the class discussion. He really makes that count. Overall he is hard, but hes kinda funny
Theres not enough space to explain how terrible he is. I gave his class everything I had and received a D-. My transcript now reads 28 As, 1 B, and a D-. This class is not worth the nervous breakdown this man will give you. Wait for another professor. Now that I have learned business stats on my own I know it was him and not me.
not good
This was hands down the single most difficult class I have taken at CofC (Sr.). There is so much material to absorb that missing a single class is a really bad idea. Thankfully, if you do most of the problems in the bank, you'll see them again on his test. And despite being a hard class he goes out of his way to be very flexible when taking tests.
Dr. Gonzalez is by far the worst professor I have ever encountered. He screamed at our class and stormed out because we got an answer wrong, rather than talking us through why it was wrong. Do not take him if you can avoid it.
He will seriously make you work for it. My only advice is get on his good side and don't ask too many questions because he gets EXTREMELY irritated when students don't understand him. If you do take his class, and you pass, there is nothing that you can't get through
Professor Gonzalez is probably the worst professor I've ever had. The lectures have no correlation to the homework. When you ask for any form of help, he will tell you to go back and watch his lectures. When going to office hours, he spent 10 minutes trying to find a formula until he gave up and told the student to go back to the lectures.
one of learning objectives outlined in the class syllabus is development and training of quantitative fluency. How can I learn that if I can't use my computer or excel in a class that Im paying for? His draconian teaching style sounds like an angry father reminding his children of the rules constantly. If he ware a computer he would be Windows 98.
Ugh. Just show up to his class and do what he asks and you will get a decent grade. You have to understand going into the class that he does not care as much as other professors. He is there to do his job and that's all. Just accept that he will not be flexible to cater to you. Do what's asked. He lacks sympathy, but he's not a terrible person.
He does not even know how to do his own work. Office hours are useless (took 20 minutes to solve a problem giving a different answer than the answer key he posted). If you dont have chegg to check work, you will fail. Incorrectly solves problems and then claims that you copied wrong and he would never make such a mistake. Avoid him at all costs.
Dr. G is not as bad as everyone says. He is a very straightforward kind of guy, so it can definitely rub people the wrong way. But honestly, I learned a ton from his lectures and they were never boring. Lean/Six Sigma is a tough course, just make sure you participate as much as you can and pay attention in class.
The worst professor i ever had. Terrible teacher. Mean, sad man. Frequently makes mistakes on his own problems. He wrote his own textbook which he makes you buy (and then profits off of).
Attendance is mandatory and points quickly stripped. Very harsh grader, almost to a point of disrespect
Read the book, practice problems from book/lectures, and attend every class. Follow all directions closely and participate. He is a good guy, but can be temperamental at times. Also, don't be late. This isn't an easy A or an an easy professor. He wants you to be prepared for the workforce and doesn't allow personal computers or phones.
My god what a semester it's been with Marvin Gonzalez. To start I received a zero for an assignment that I had handed in which took a month to resolve with the dean and assistant dean. I ended up getting full credit but had a target on my back the rest of the semester. Save your time, money, and stress. I have more to say but there is a word limit.
He really wasn't bad this is just a very hard class. Make sure you know how to use excel and write down every formula you see. You're allowed to use formula cheat sheet on quizzes/tests. He gives partial credit for a lot of things so write everything down even if its wrong. Don't miss class or you wont make it.
Makes this class so much harder than it has to be through insanely and ridiculously harsh grading. Take someone else if you can help it.
Gonzalez has to be the least understanding professor I have ever had. Don't think any type of reason to miss class is an excuse because it's not, even with a doctor's note he won't take anything. He "offers extra credit" but does it as participating in class and calls on the same people every time. Don't take him it gets worse.
Claims attendance isn't mandatory but will deduct points for not attending. Office hours are limited and won't offer help through email. Had a solution on the powerpoint but gave a completely different answer when worked in class. Gave practice problems to study for test but doesn't give solutions nor works them in class. Its his way or the highway
Hardest and least caring professor at this school, if you even want to give him the professor title. Despicable teaching style. Does NOT care about your success. Meeting with him is impossible. Lectures have nothing todo with the homework. Do not take him, avoid him at all costs. I've never despised a prof more.
Absolutely the worst professor I ever had. Never ever taking him again. Terrible.
His tests and quizzes are not like what we do in class like he claims. He is very strict with grading. When students ask questions, he often responds in a way that belittles them and makes them regret asking the question. He will also say conflicting things. People have asked questions and when he answered, his answer was wrong.
Spends lots of time talking bad about students who do not attend class. Also will call out people in the class. If you have good attendance he is more likely to respond well to your answers in class. Class participation is very important. Lots of extra credit opportunity. Teaches in a way that is very confusing and fast paced.
He's Spanish and can be super hard to understand at times so pay attention! He says attendance isn't mandatory but takes attendance everyday and talks bad to those that don't attend every single class. His lectures are fast paced and he goes off on tangents all the time. He can be funny sometimes but also just degrading. I wouldn't recommend at all
DONT TAKE DR. G IF YOU HAVE A CHOICE.
Do not take Dr. G. He yells, does problems wrong on the board, made me cry in class, seems to enjoys failing students, and his grammar is difficult to understand. Graduate late, change your major, transfer schools, fake your death- do whatever you need to do to not take this professor.
Dr G is a pretty good teacher. The class is very hard and he does expect you to come to class everyday but if you're sick you can join over zoom. He expects you to show all of your work and is very lenient with partial credit as long as you make sure to show detailed work. There are homeworks due every week or two.
I don't know why Dr. Gonzalez has negative reviews as he has been one of my favorite professors. The class can be hard and he expects you to come to class everyday, but he's a great teacher and is a pretty forgiving grader. I would definitely take him again.
Prof Gonzalez was a very straightforward professor, and he told you everything he expected from you upfront. Nothing on the tests or quizzes is a surprise, so if you pay attention in class and study you will get a good grade. He makes a lot of jokes and makes learning this content very fun!
Gonzalez's class is challenging, but if you stay engaged, attend regularly, and use resources like the textbook and Unstuck AI, you can succeed. He has high expectations, but is a fair grader. Overall, it's a rewarding experience.
He yells at his students in class, calls out students in class to answer questions and then makes fun of them when wrong. Does problems wrong on the board and doesn't seem like he knows what he's doing. Class is lecture heavy and attendance is MANDATORY. Lots of extra credit opportunities that help you, but was overall an awful experience.
A horrible professor gets into arguments with students. not easy to get help outside of class. hard to understand. If you can don't take this professor
Mean, tough grader, contradicts himself.
At the beginning of each class, he is on a soapbox for about 15 minutes. When he lectures, it is quite loud and passionate, to say the least. He does give out a great deal of extra credit for answering questions in class. If you pay attention in class, it is pretty easy material. You also get formula sheets for tests. Attendance is mandatory.
A very loud lecturer, gets easily angry at his students. Is not nice, will call you out but will help you if you put time into the class. Oaks page is a nightmare and never up to date. Attendance is mandatory, if you miss you don't get credit for 3 classes. Extra credit through participation.
This was actually the most difficult class I've taken at CofC and I'm a last semester senior. He does offer extra credit in class but he is really picky about the answers he accepts. The tests/quizzes he gives are practically impossible and he's not helpful outside of class. I have never struggled more in a class, do not take him for anything...
Dr. G is an ok professor overall; if you can miss less than 5 classes, the final is exempt. He is strict about attendance, participation, and bathroom and phone usage. If any of the previously mentioned are violated during class, he will crash out and yell. Make sure to show up and do the homeworks and take notes and you will do ok
Not very understanding and contradicts himself. Gets angry if you are late or leave to use the restroom.
AWFUL TEACHER. Study all the material he has on oaks/notes for hours and still end up with a 60 on the quizzes/tests. You can literally do all the work properly and get 0 credit for getting the final answer wrong. He is extremely hard to understand also.
I have two good things and a whole lot of bad things. I'll keep it brief, he offers lots of extra credit and connect with the check work button is 30% of grade final. Those are the only good things about Dr. G. He is rude and yells at students in class for asking clarifying questions. Trust the 90+ 1-star reviews, don't take Dr. Gonzalez.
I attended the study abroad program this past summer with Dr. G, overall, it was a terrible experience. He assigned an unbearable amount of work. I wrote over 15,000 words "3 week course," not including the other professor's work we had to complete. Insanely cranky, doesn't admit when he's wrong, and completely unprofessional. DONT GO ABROAD W HIM!
